The Poppy Georgetown

Great location, nice treats in the lobby Room was small such that one person had only about 7 inches of access to get around to the other side of the bed. Thought the price was quite a bit out of line with the room (550/night with tax) - pictures of the queen deluxe misleading. Somehow we ended up with the runt of the litter. Parking at 59/night a bit pricey too

Most incredible visit yet our second year or return..we came for FRENCH MARKET DAYS. IT WAS LIKE FIRST TIME BUT EVEN MORE FANTASTIK.. PET FRIENDLY HELL THATS A UNDERSTATEMENT!!! WE WILL RETURN AGAIN NEXT YEAR WILL BE OUR THIRD TIME WERE PLANNING ALREADY !@!

There was a good amount of space and it was clean. The room was in the downstairs of a three story building making the room dark and looked out on the side at the noeghboring restaurant where there is a rotting refrigerator and piles of trash. Old trash bags, essentially a dump.

Good location. The room was dated and uninspired. We were supposed to have a queen size bed, but was only a full size. The comforter cover was stained. The curtains didn’t fully cover the windows which faced the street. My messages to the hotel were unanswered.

The place has a charming, cozy feel and the room was clean and comfortable. I also really enjoyed the patio and the kitchen. The breakfast was excellent and very complete. The staff provided great service, John and Nico made the experience even better. The check-in process was very easy.

Absolutely loved our stay. The coffee bar/breakfast nook area was a nice touch. Friendly and helpful staff. We would stay here again!

Delightfully small, great help yourself amenities and a chill patio for relaxing after a day in the city. The hosts and cleaning staff were very accommodating of my travel schedule. Excellent hot shower with good water pressure. Nothing. Just wish I could have stayed longer.

I loved the charm of this place. I wish I could stay longer. Definitely coming back here!

Highly recommended place to stay in a beautiful residential area of DC, near the Phillips Collection (also highly recommended). Lots of thoughtful touches, such as a borrow cupboard, and blankets for use in the very pleasant garden (also the fire pit). I’d definitely stay here again. Nothing.

AVOID ROOM 1 AT ALL COSTS. Love a historic property. The windows might have predated the forming of the Union itself. At one point we thought the windows were open it was so loud on an otherwise normal street. You cannot have a street facing room with single pane windows. The blinds were also non functional. They covered half the windows and let all sorts of light in. Internet was barely functional. No iron, no ironing board. The free spread of drinks and snacks was a nice touch, but would never stay here again if I was stuck in Room 1.

The Poppy was the perfect homebase during our brief trip to DC. The space is incredibly clean, the parlor is adorable, and staff communication was top-notch from booking to checkout. Highly recommend!

We had the most charming state in Georgetown. The Poppy is clean, warm, welcoming, and inviting. Check in and check out was a breeze. Breakfast in the morning was delicious and it was essentially located to everything in Georgetown and downtown DC. It was quiet and the beds were super comfortable. I hope to be back again.

Nice sized room, comfortable bed, nice breakfast and refreshments included. Great restaurant next door. The room was a little down at the heels. The bed fabric was tired and spotted, the desk chair was damaged. The bathroom door was a sliding door that was difficult to move and afforded little privacy.

Clean and well appointed; nice bath facilities; bed was good; coffee and drink bar came in handy, especially all the different milks. Common area decor was very appealing, even in the courtyards. We appreciated the friendly host, John and good communication from Nico. One window in the bathroom let in a lot of light.

They have everything you need from snacks, drinks, outdoor gear, firewood, blankets, games. Definitely comfortable, and cozy. Perfect location in Georgetown! Will definitely be going back for a stay!

Stay here if you want a Georgetown neighborhood experience and feel like a resident. Area is spectacular, walkable. Hotel staff is attentive, excellent respite from the usual commercial hotel experience.

generous space, open guest kitchen with many options for breakfast. An excellent restaurant, Aspero, right next door. A market directly across the street. Utterly charming neighborhood. my only negative: Room 5 is close to the kitchen, where the espresso machine is right up against the Room 5 wall. The buzzing of that machine goes right through the wall like an alarm. It would be nice, too, if the windows could open.

We really enjoyed our stay. Located in a beautiful neighborhood and very walkable to all main streets of Georgetown. The room was cozy and clean and the perfect size for a couples weekend. The staff was very friendly and welcoming. Breakfast options were also yummy.

Our stay was amazing! I cannot compliment John and his staff enough for the warmth of the welcome, the beautiful room and location and the superb breakfast and facilities. If you are in Georgetown stay here!! You will be glad you did. We are!!!

If I had to criticize anything at all, and these are minor complaints, it would be that they don’t have a basic coffee maker or a keurig. Just a very fancy cappuccino maker. I’m a basic girl and look forward to my basic coffee at home lol. The other thing we didn’t love, and this is my fault for not noticing when booking, there were no basic restaurants or pubs close by to grab a meal or drink at in a pinch. There’s a French restaurant nearby but again, too fancy for us basic folks lol. The last complaint would be that I partly booked this hotel due to the adorable patios and sitting areas outside. We were not able to use them at all because there was so many mosquitoes that my husband got eaten alive within five minutes. They kindly offer bug spray but he doesn’t want to smell like bug spray all day so we just stayed indoors. They told us that the day we were leaving they had a mosquito spraying company to come out and treat for it so that’s good at least. Again in general, we love the hotel and look forward to staying two more places like this. Highly recommend in general. Thank you for everything.

Loved the one bedroom suite room, it was spacious and comfortable. Very cute backyard that was quiet and nice if you wanted to relax. The staff was very nice. Very nice location with lots of little places to eat nearby. Appreciate the little kitchen in the front with nice snacks, but the bagels and bread in the morning were a bit dry.

There wasn't anything we didn't like.

This was a friendly, inviting place that was in a lovely neighborhood. We were located within a half mile of the metro and used this to get around. Coffee, fresh fruit, water, and snacks were available 24/7. This was close to many great restaurants and the stay couldn't have been better. Nothing.

the Poppy is very well located in Georgetown, quiet and yet close to the vibrant life of GT. The accommodation is comfortable but my bedroom need ed to be freshened up (the paper covering the wall was torn in many places). Breakfast was very good with a large choice of pastries, charcuteries and cheese. Staff was outstanding.

Hosts couldn't have been more helpful, wonderful common area with included coffee and snacks, expansive continental breakfast. Convenient for shops and restaurants within easy walk. We only stayed one night, but highly recommend.

Great property and superb location. Easy walk to Georgetown main st and Dupont circle. Staff were helpful and plenty of snacks and drinks available for free. The only issue we found was space for clothes and iron/steamer in room would be nice. Overall, great stay and would highly recommend.

We've stayed here before for a family memorial service and the outdoor areas gave us lots of room to hang out and talk. This time I was on a short business trip and everything was perfect for coming in and out and enjoying the neighborhood where we have a lot of family memories.

Exceptionally organised. Nico reached out to us ahead of time with all the necessary information. Our arrival/check in was after midnight, but there was no issue with that and Nico had taken care of everything for a smooth process. The staff were very friendly and helpful to meet our needs. Highly recommend this place!

The continental breakfast in the morning with all the amenities as well as the kitchen amenities during the day were much appreciated. The location was excellent with much of Georgetown’s charm within a leisurely strolling distance. A gem!

Sweet, cosy hotel but my room was facing the street and quite noisy. Also, I had expected more of a familiar vibe - felt very much left to e.g. figure out breakfast for myself - didn’t know how to work the coffee machine and even though the manager was right next to me he didn’t offer to help. Breakfast otherwise was good though.

We enjoyed the Poppy Hotel. A great find with lots of charm but still all amenities and comfort. The inclusion of breakfast is very nice as the hotel doesn’t have a restaurant. The neighborhood is lovely to walk around and to try some of the local eateries.

I would definitely stay here again. It feels like you are a guest in a close friend’s home. Communal feel with amenities like bug spray, sunscreen and curling irons readily available. The outdoor space is cozy and the rooms are spacious and nicely decorated. There are a few minor areas where a little extra effort would take the customer experience to the next level. We were not offered sparkling drinks upon arrive as described in the property offering, bottled water and some snacks ran out mid day, no mention of spa services upon arrival. Overall The Poppy is a unique and welcoming stay experience and we will stay here again when we next visit the DC area.

The Poppy in Georgetown is our go-to when we need a hotel in Wash, DC. We love the guest house arrangement and ambiance. The gathering room includes a terrific selection of breakfast foods and beverages (love the Nespresso), as well as juices/sodas/waters, various snacks, and adult beverages after work or a day exploring. It’s like walking down to your own kitchen when and as you please. Every effort is made to ensure your stay exceeds expectations. Many thoughtful extras are included. Check out the lovely private garden area with lots of relaxing seating in the back; there’s also a sweet front garden terrace. Upscale linens, super-comfortable beds.You won’t find overstuffed furniture or extraneous furnishings; the entire property is designed to enable impeccable cleanliness. We’ve stayed with an elderly mother (accommodated with no no stairs to room), as a couple, and alone. Consistently excellent.

The one thing that made it not completely perfect was that the smoke detector in our room started beeping because the battery needed to be replaced at 6:45am and one of the main things we both wanted was to sleep in that morning. So that wasn't pleasant. We found an employee in the kitchenette area and he fixed it very quickly but, unfortunately, we were already awake at that point.

My daughter and I stayed overnight as a little mother/daughter outing before she starts college. The Poppy was just the vibe we were looking for and everything was great. charming! cute neighborhood area & walkable to nostalgic bar, unique restaurants, all the shopping & the river. felt very European!

There were two cute courtyards that we were able to use as a group, the rooms were comfortable, and it felt like we were staying in a home instead of staying in a commercial hotel. John was amazing and so welcoming. He is a kind soul that makes you feel immediately as if he is your friend.

Lovely little place that is off the beaten path but close to the action. Very easy and comfortable!

It was a short stay for Georgetown /DC. I had to fit alot into 3 days even with Rain trying to destroy my 1st Day. I told the Poppy staff I would have a late to early arrival checkout and they helped. Arriving to a snack and beverage stocked kitchen with comfortable volume set music was a nice touch of making me feel welcome. I got a huge soft comfortable bed and unique but interesting Modern Artwork the Shower products were great from Lather after having a long 11 hr 25 min bus ride for my trip to shower. The area was quiet and safe to have an early morning self walking tour to Georgetown University and the movie location for the horror movie the Exorcist steps and house with a home with Transformers Robots to boot. I got lucky seeing a black squirrel and coming back from my last day to a welcoming place to eat and relax with an outdoor patio and secret garden. It was a nice relaxing place to stay! The Poppy provided the perfect setting and accommodations for a mother/daughter weekend.

I love boutique hotels and this one did NOT disappoint! Absolutely loved the attentiveness and welcoming environment. There's a code to get into the hotel which made me feel more secure. John gave great nearby dining recommendations and was very helpful in helping me get settled in. The room was small, but very clean and functional, perfect for my short stay. In the morning seating was limited in the common area, but there was a good variety of breakfast options to choose from. Highly recommend this hotel!

Really charming property due to weather we’re not able to enjoy the garden are but looked very nice

My room was clean, comfy and quiet. I appreciated the small touches such as a white noise machine and being able to adjust the A/C to my preference. The coffee machine in the common area makes the best latte! Unfortunately, my entry code didn't work my second night and I waited almost a half-hour outside of the building for someone to re-set it for me. It was an annoyance at the end of a very long, hot day, but overall, I was happy with my stay.

We felt most welcome and well looked after. The room was as advertised, but sound insulation left a bit to be desired (noise from other guests returning late at night, as well as noise from the room above, which would benefit from (thicker) carpeting. A separate suggestion regarding room facilities would be to add a safe.

The hotel locates in a safe quiet walkable location. It is clean and nicely equipped. Every good experience.

The Poppy was one of the most amazing stays we’ve ever had in all our years of travel! The garden room is outstanding and John is an incredible host. We loved everything about it ~

Great stay and great communication. Excellent location and loved the free coffee and treats. John and Nico both went out of their way to please! My recommendations for improvement: provide safes, plastic bags for trash cans in rooms. I would recommend getting rid of the big trunks at the ends of the beds, as they are easy to hit and they are pretty rough when you do. Also, make sure you do communicate with guests when they can expect to be charged, as most hotels don’t charge until checkout. Otherwise, truly awesome, and I look forward to the next time around! Great value!

This place is a gem! It is located in a prime spot, easy to walk to DC or throughout Georgetown. The premises are quiet, clean, and homey. Nico and John are great hosts: both are so friendly and knowledgeable. I will definitely return!!

The Poppy is a small, charming hotel located in an historic residential section of Georgetown. The hotel room that we had on sub level floor was spacious, had enough light and had a very nice digital fire in the fireplace. Bathroom was spacious with nice walk in shower. There are no elevators in this building, so anyone with issues walking stairs would need to be sure of a room on the ground floor. Breakfast is a self serve selection of coffee, tea, pastries, toast, flavored yogurt and cold cereal. No microwave to heat milk for coffee, and no source of protein such as peanut butter or cheese to offset the carbs. On the plus side, an excellent small restaurant (Apero) for lunch or dinner right next to the hotel that the manager at the Poppy recommended. There is also a small grocery store across the street to buy food. Otherwise, one would have to walk a ways to get to more restaurants and stores.

Nonetheless , Loved the overall vibe .

It’s was very quiet all evening. There are some rooms that face the courtyard and front street and you can hear the morning traffic from there but it didn’t bother me at all. The hair and body products in the shower was so nice I’m going to purchase the brand. I’m a celeb makeup artist so I use great products but was thoroughly impressed by that. The lil morning kitchen lobby area was so charming. Yummy muffins and a SUPER fancy espresso machine. I brought my little yorkie and the staff was so kind and sweet to him. I literally felt like I was home with family. Look no further! This is DEFINITELY the spot to stay. Nico is the sweetest!!! Sandwich deli 2 blocks away. Delicious Italian restaurant a half mile away. I’ll be back for sure!!!!
