Reviews
The hotel is praised for its unique design, friendly staff, and great location, particularly for those visiting ASU. However, there are consistent complaints about cleanliness, lack of basic amenities in the rooms, and noise issues.

The price point for one night was okay. The hallways and room had an old smell. Walking past taped up room doors felt uneasy, like something bad occurred in them.

They didn’t offer the free drinks. We asked and said they were out of the mix and were waiting on a new concentrate from corporate even though there was a full bar right behind the guy checking us in. The phone in the room didn’t work. There’s nowhere to put your shower toiletries in the shower. The toilet paper roll was almost gone and no replacement in the room. There was plastic wrapping all over the hotel: on the floors, doors, elevator. It felt like we stepped into an episode of Dexter. Hallways and elevator smelled like old crayons and were hot. This was my 3rd time staying here. Never again.

To start, there was No smoke detector in our room, visible black mold in several places, the refridgerator was filthy, dented and scratched up. This is before we get into the smell of the hotel and room (smelled like a frat house that has never been cleaned and it's the end of the school year). Stained carpets and splatter on the walls of the hallways. The thick dust in the rooms aggrevated my asthma. I have NEVER stayed in a hotel and had to make our own beds without being provided proper bedding. The "stash rrom" had no "stash" of blankets, pillows or supplies. I paid full price only to act as my own maid, housekeeper, and fire inspector. Marriott (who owns The Moxy, was once a trusted brand I relied on for a clean, safe stay for my myself and my family. This experience completely destroyed that trust. Never again. I will gladly take my business to competitors and share this experience with other parents, including ASU parent groups and platforms. If I could rate -10 I would. Shame on you Marriott!

The room itself also had a very bad odor, to the point that we had to buy air freshener. While I will say the water pressure and hot water were some of the best I’ve had in a hotel in a long time, that alone is not enough to make me want to return given the safety concerns, smells, and lack of follow‑through.

The hotel was spacious and well lit. A highlight was the complimentary cocktail when we arrived. There was a touch of negligence here and there. My wife and I enjoyed playing against each other on the pool table, but had to work around the tears in the felt and the deteriorated condition of the cues. The long walk down the corridor to our room was on a multicolor carpet that had seen better days. I know the hotel is meant to be centrally located, but Rural Road is notable for its speeding, noisy drivers and a lack of accommodations. For example, there are a couple of restaurants right across the street but the only pedestrian crosswalks are far away.

With no explanation. no confirmation of a false alarm. just silence for us to sit in and determine if we were on the 3rd floor of a burning building. Incredibly, it happened again in the wee hours of that same morning. Same alarm, same message, same anxiety, same sudden stop, same silence leaving us to guess as to our situation and our safety. Been staying in Marriott properties for almost 40 years and while accidents happen, humans make mistakes, an occasional service issue arises, nothing that caused my physical heart rate to spike. And then? No explanation. Nothing. We did receive our bill however. Thank for that. Think about how you would feel? Really, if you are reading this, do you think that at a bare bones minimum, you might get a “sorry about that …”.

The lobby is actually so cute and retro! You check in at the bar and it looks so nice until you walk into the hallway the floor has huge dips under the carpet that you don't see until you're tripping, then open your hotel and it smells of mildew, everything feels wet, the shower is filthy and has black build up over the caulking. I literally left with an ick feeling. I can see the concept was a cute idea but only if there is proper renovations done. We choose to stay here because it was next to our daughter's dorm but in the future we will skip the Moxy

The property seems old and outdated. They had construction going on the 4th floor we were in. Parking is not lit and they charge $15 bucks per night. There is no closet in the room nor couch. Restroom was not as clean as I expected it to be. We usually stay at another hotel which was booked.

My room was clean, and the staff that gave me late check out was kind and helpful.

Free pool table, lobby games, desirable downtown location. It worked out perfect for our trip!

Sigh...I have been choosing to stay at the Moxy since we moved my daughter into ASU a year and a half ago. This last visit was very disappointing with issue after issue. These included a leak in the bathroom which lead to 3 requests for clean towels after cleaning the leak. The door lock needing to be charged. The TV remote not being responsive. And then add 15 9-12 year old boys running and screaming and splashing. I have second thoughts about booking here again in the future.

The good: the lobby was really fun and the poolside cabanas were very comfortable. Loved the drink vouchers. The bed was comfortable. Very convenient to public transit. There were some affordable and tasty food and drink options nearby. The bad: the room did not have a refrigerator and that is something I come to expect. Corridors were run down and elevators made lots of noise so didn't instill a lot of confidence they would get you up or down. Had to pay daily for parking. And of course the pool heater was broken so it was not usable at the time of our stay.

We were able to establish WiFi in the room no problem after we checked in however at 1am the WiFi abruptly shut off. The front desk woman offered no help or compensation for it and explained there was nothing they can do and for the remainder of our stay we were without wifi. I tried to call the front desk for information however they never picked up the phone and when she told me to dial 5 to call them and I tried it never worked and no one picked up. It’s a shame the front desk woman doesn’t provide any correct information on how to reach them from our room so I had to leave my room multiple times in the middle of the night to ask questions about our issues. I think it’s embarrassing a room with no fridge, no microwave, and now no wifi can be over $250 a night. I’ve been to hotels for less than $100 a night that offer a fridge, a microwave, and high speed wifi with zero issues whatsoever. It’s a shame they put all their effort into presentation but their rooms are extremely underwhelming. Their elevator is clearly on its last legs and it should’ve been a sign that things wouldn’t be up to par. They offer a “communal microwave” as a substitute but that’s completely ludicrous and disgusting you have to leave your room and share a microwave with 100 people downstairs to heat up any food. I feel scammed playing more than $250 for a room that falls short of any amenities and doesn’t offer any solution to any problems that I ran into. I won’t be returning to this hotel again.

The feel of the place from the decor to the staff was fantastic. I really enjoyed it. The ability to actually sleep well was not good. Beds were too soft, the pillows large and lumpy, and with glass windows on every room door, the shade that is on them blocked a decent fraction of the hall light, but not nearly well enough. Many great aspects, but I’ll choose somewhere else next time.

I've stayed here multiple times over the years, but this is the last. First off, the staff was very nice and amazing. But that's where it ended. The area has definitely gone downhill and didn't feel safe for parking or walking around. The hotel condition has definitely gone downhill and is completely neglected. My toilet didn't work at all and the front desk told me it would be fixed by the time I returned from a long day out working. Negative, it was a sewer smell I couldn't take. I had to switch rooms, which they quickly and graciously accommodated. Coffee machine in lobby didn't work to make anything but the drip provided and they said it would be 2 weeks before someone could fix it? Hallways and stairways were dirty. Rooms looked like they were beaten up. Mold in bathroom from years of build up. Hope it gets better and cleaned up. It's been historically a pretty reasonably price good value place.

The manager of the hotel did a nice job of making our stay very comfortable. Our room was remodeled and very clean. There were other parts of the hotel such as the hallways and elevator which have not been updated yet, but that didn't really impact our stay. We enjoyed the community spaces of the pool and the front desk/bar area. We would suggest calling ahead to ensure that the room you are booking has been remodeled. The hotel is in an area which can access public transportation easily.

The only good thing about the hotel was appearance of my hotel room and the front desk girl who let me borrow an iron for the time of my stay. The floor was extremely dirty and actually had to buy disinfecting wipes and a disposable mop to clean it since clearly the staff does not focus on this part. When I wiped the floor the cleaning wipes were black from all the dirtiness. Unsure of what else was that dirty, I took it upon my self to clean the rest of the areas that I was going to access, such as the bathroom. I was expecting way more from the staff specially after they leave a note on the bed asking for tips in cash. The last day of my stay the staff finally came in to make the bed and nothing else was done so clearly management does not enforce a well-maintained room. I had to take out the garbage everyday since no one came to pick it up. Seems like anyone could walk into the hotel or just walk around barefoot and no shirt (guy playing in the arcade area). Outdoor common areas should be better lit for safety given that the area is not the safest. Overall very disappointed that this Marriot Bonvoy hotel is so poorly managed and not cleaned to higher standards. This was my first time in Arizona and will definitely not be back at this hotel.

Not a bad place to stay if you’re in a bind, but don’t go in expecting too much. The room was fine, the linens were clean, the bathroom was clean, but the chair clearly wasn’t. The hallways are dingy and the elevator creaks. The A/C worked. The staff were friendly, but busy trying to bartend and check people in at the same time. The location is convenient, but very close to the frat row at ASU, so expect some noise and bustle. We didn’t spend much time there other than sleeping and getting ready, so it served its purpose.

When I went into my first room, it had what looked like dried puke in the sink. If that wasn’t bad enough, a giant cockroach crawled out of the opening of the elevator into the elevator when I went down to request a new room. The second room was okay, but the AC controls didn’t work at all. The road noise was extremely loud while trying to sleep as well. Definitely will not ever come back, and would not recommend.

The staff was super friendly and there are fun things to do for kids such as foosball table, pool table, pinball machines, and a fun pool. Our initial room smelled like mildew and we had to change rooms. They were very accommodating. It’s a fun hotel, but it feels a little rundown. There was black stuff (hopefully not mold)in the corners of the shower and all the hanging lights in the bathroom and room were super dusty. We didn’t have hand soap or towels and when I called the front desk to have them send them up they never did. I had to ask the cleaning lady as we passed to please leave towels in our room. Overall, a good stay for the purpose, but the hotel itself could use some work. The staff totally made the stay!

Friendly staff but this place is clearly more of a party hotel. Great location to ASU but someplace for your older brother to stay when he visits, not necessarily parents.

Really enjoyed my stay here! The staff were friendly and helpful. The room was a great size and really comfortable. Loved that there was free parking, made things so easy. The pool area was awesome, with nice cabanas to relax in. The location is perfect, just a short walk to the ASU Tempe campus. I wish I had more time to enjoy all the amenities. I’d definitely stay here again.

Run down hotel nothing working nothing fixed in the days we were there from Tuesday to Friday morning . The flashing lights from the emergency lights were flashing the entire time of the stay, some rooms were flashing like a strobe light so if anybody had epilepsy that would’ve not worked out well. With zero warning or any signs of them trying to fix anything. The carpets walking down the hall to get to your rooms look like they have never been vacuumed the entire time the place has been open. it smelled like mold and wet walls and dirty water. Coming out of the elevator the morning we were leaving to fly home. There was vomit in the elevator that was not cleaned up and then coming out of the elevator on the first floor. There was vomit everywhere in the hall on the carpet we told them and they seemed shocked, which is alarming for the fact that how many hours has that vomit been sitting there. Every time we walked into the lobby every single employee was sitting at the bar in the chairs doing absolutely nothing. No dusting no cleaning. The pool is filthy. It didn’t look like it had been cleaned with pieces of palm tree leaves floating in the bottom of it. The only time we saw any kind of cleaning was room service and that was questionable. All in all I strongly recommend you not staying at this hotel and the department of whoever is in charge of making sure things are up-to-date really needs to look into this place because I guarantee they would be shut down immediately.

Room was neat with a cool vibe. Unfortunately when we arrived an alarm was going off in the room next door. They moved us but surprised they couldn’t just disable it. The next evening all the alarms went off for a few seconds and stopped but the alarm lights blinked all night long (hallway not our room). So that was weird but overall we liked the stay. Not the newest or fanciest hotel but quirky and fun.

Nice clean room but hallway smelled moldy, says they serve food at the bar on website but when checked in was told they dont serve food which was a let down since we could have stopped on the way there and ate. No where in room to sit and eat (no coffee table, desk only had 1 chair), no trash can in room or mini fridge to keep drinks cold. Room was really cool retro vide and shower is amazing (room for 2) All in all was a good room for the price.

I like the overall vibe and everything is super clean. Main issue was the elevator by the main entrance is very shaky. Housekeeping tried to get into the room before check out time even though we had the window set to Do Not Disturb. Someone was trying to get into our room at around 3 a.m. a couple tries and woke us up. There’s no shelving in the shower for toiletries. Trash can in the restroom looked like someone threw up in it and it was tossed out, but not cleaned. I loved the AC! Very efficient.

The Moxy is getting very run down. It’s evident they are not keeping up on maintenance at all. Toilet paper holder broken, shower handle broke off when turning on-among many other broken or just run down issues. The air conditioner was very squeaky and also turned on and off all night very loud despite running the “constant fan”. I literally got no sleep here. Also, traffic from rural road is very loud all night. And hallways dirty with dead cockroaches. The only positive was that staff were very nice and competent.

The staff was great. I was looking forward to relaxing in the pool and eating on site so that I didn’t have to leave or door dash. After checking in told the kitchen was out of order. So ok I would have to leave to eat. Got our swimsuits headed to pool. OMG so dirty you can’t see the bottom! Murky , silt. I ask front desk have you seen the pool ? They have no idea and I’m then told our vaccum is broken! But we put chemicals in there so it’s ok to swim! Um no! I was told I could try and use another hotels pool. I wish I had not booked there . I was really looking forward to a day of relaxing.

Just needed a place to crash for the night. This place was better than I had expected. Really decorative and easy access to the activities and action.
- 4/5
Nice hotel itself. Will never understand why some hotels try to make their lobbies feel like a club. That's my only compalint
- 4/5
Overall a very nice property with fun amenities like billiards and foosball in the lobby with comfy seating to hang out and relax. Beds were comfortable. I appreciated the doggie welcome box with a toy and water bowl, and the turf area outside for my dog to use for potty time. The pool area looked nice although I did not use it. Kind of bummed there was no fridge or any sort of kitchenette area in the room. The cleanliness aspect was lacking - dust and hair behind the bedside table that was very visible, hair in the sink and the shower, and some sort of spill/splash on the wall near the bed that wasn’t cleaned up. We only stayed here one night in a pinch when our AC went out, and it was great for that purpose.

The quality of Moxy hotel was below average [to avoid poor quality]. Check in was slow. The TV and wifi did not work at all even after a technician worked on the system for about 30 minutes. The front desk was no help at all, especially with the manager out of town and not available. There was no continental breakfast, just free coffee in the morning. Thumbs down for this overnight stay.

Very nice staff and clean room. Unique setup
- 3/5
Our room felt dirty. There was a bar of soap left in the shower. Towels were fresh so knew it had had a service. Fire alarm went off at 1.45am and we had to evacuate, false alarm, someone smoking in their room perhaps, but very glad the system worked.
- 2/5
Didn't like this hotel. Very dark and sketchy parking lot. Room lighting did not work as advertised, very dirty room with insects dead in the windows. Would not stay again.
- 5/5
Very friendly staff, definitely would stay again. My teenager even had a great time.
- 4/5
The only problem is they never responded to my e-mail/text when i was trying to modify my reservation.
- 5/5
There is no refrigerator or coffee maker in the rooms and there are only two pillows per bed but the lobby is over stocked with everything you will need: pool table, several lounge areas, tremendous snack options plus delicious free cookies. The staff is super helpful and pleasant to deal with. I think the Moxy is a find!
- 2/5
However, no level of staff helpfulness could overcome the main problem with this hotel. It’s a dump. There are a few areas - the courtyard and the room that were barely acceptable (otherwise I would have left the first night) but the place - specifically hallways & elevators are just run down, dim, shabby, smelly and overall gross. The Lobby appears to be hip & fun, but the pool table is old & run down and TVs and video games are out of service as was the entire gym. I would never stay here again, and give a lot of credit to the entire hotel staff who seem committed to making this dump the best it can be. Sorry you’ve lost the battle.
- 4/5
Decor was cool and unique. Staff was great. Room was clean. The gym was closed entirely all day Saturday and Sunday so working out was not possible. Also the option to stream to the TV in room from your device did not work at all over four days and the front desk wasn’t able to help. Not dealbreakers but things to note. Location was good. The pool is nice although did not seem to be heated. Overall, I would return.
- 5/5
This was a great property! Me and my bf came down to Arizona for his birthday and the staff was great from the start of our check in to the last of us checking out. The hotel had a vibe of and older hotel that had gotten a new school modern renovation which we mentioned to the staff and they let us know it had been in fact a different hotel before becoming the mock which thought was a cool tid bit to learn. Upon our official morning waking up in the mock we were happy to know that breakfast was available and the build your own Bloody Mary and all you can drink mimosas was also a plus. The staff were always so friendly giving us great recommendations of fun places to try and go to and even when we went to one they had recommended that we didn’t much care for then had a feel for what we would like and added more places to the list. We were so grateful. The ONLY thing we really barely had an issue with was that the iron in our room didn’t work and it took us about 3 new irons to realize it was just the irons. BUT again the staff came through for us and check the iron and went out there to get us one that worked and even went out of his way to talk to his manager so more irons could be ordered for the hotel. Such an amazing hotel. Would recommend and come back.

One of the worst hotel stays of my life. I had my two kids with me. After driving all day we get to our room and the sheets are disgusting like they hadn’t been changed. I swept my hand across it and hair and like food fell from the bed. When I tried to call the front desk the phone didn’t work. They did end up changing my room. When I got in that room the tv didn’t work. So I called down and they said they would fix it while I was at dinner. I get back from dinner me and my two kids are exhausted and the tv still doesn’t work. They send someone up and he said I haven’t been trained on this yet so we have to change rooms again. We get to the third room and the tv works everything seemed to be fine until the middle of the night when it was like 50* and I try to turn up the thermostat and it doesn’t work. I even turn it up to 80 and it’s still 50*. We were freezing. Then my kids take showers and they get ready. When I get into the shower there is no shampoo. So I ask my kids what did you guys wash your hair and body with and they said conditioner cause there was no shampoo. At this point I was so upset. We were all exhausted from having to stay up late and switch rooms and a freezing night and waking up every hour to not being able to even shower. This was the craziest experience of my life. We came from Vegas and this hotel seemed like the circus circus of PHX. Crazy
- 5/5
There was one small issue with after hours hallway noise (Hint: Maybe avoid 1st floor rooms off the reception area), but that was instantly and professionally remedied by weekend manager, "Garett." And for that, my review is an instant 5 Stars.

SUPER- AWESOME Hotel!! I'm so happy I stayed here -- Modern, incredibly fun and energetic vibe, HUGE property and seriously great bar and hang-out areas with a gigantic TV and actual stand-up video games just a few feet away from the bar (Who doesn't love classic Pac-Man!) - The room I had was huge, comfortable and incredibly well designed -- I slept extremely well :) -- The GM Paul Ormsby and his wonderful staff at reception and the lovely folks in housekeeping made me feel very welcome :) -- I will definitely stay here again next time I'm in Phoenix :) - Rick Worthy x.

Checked in and was only given one of the two rooms I reserved AFTER I said, “you see there are two rooms”. The response was yes… I thought maybe rooms were joined or something but no just only checked us into 1 (it was 7:30pm so I wasn’t trying to check in early or anything). So I had to go back down to the lobby (which is a hike). No apology, fairly rude. You’re supposed to get a drink at check-in, only gave us one drink for the two rooms I booked…. Rooms don’t have refrigerators unless you ask for one….. very loud, can hear everything. Pics show little terraces but those are only on certain units around the pool. Ours had a window that looked out on the terrace that was full of trash and you couldn’t get out to…. Looks like a fun hotel but beds were not comfortable at all and staff was fairly rude. I will not stay here again.
- 5/5
Everyone working check in area was very knowledgeable and friendly! Highly recommend this hotel.
- 1/5
I wanted to love everything about this hotel, the aesthetic and vibe seemed very cute, but the reality was very different. Don’t ever plan on checking in any earlier than 4 PM. We were there on a busy weekend with a concert nearby, we were stuck for the full day, not able to check in, which was fine, the facilities were not very clean. There was a mop, just hanging out on the floor in th lobby by the bathrooms. By the time we got into our room, it looked like someone had been sleeping in our bed and I’m fairly confident they just made the bed using the same sheets from the people before. It was dirty and there were cup stains and drips on our nightstand. They were very clearly short staffed and admitted they had to hire people to come in and clean the rooms because they didn’t have enough people. The service wasn’t great either, when we went and complained about our rails, they were short and offered to comp us a free drink. There was no main management on site to help & we paid $350 not including taxes to stay! Terrible.
- 1/5
Dirty bed linens left over from the last person… Absolutely overpriced, even with clean linens and a clean room. Severely understaffed. Save yourself frustration and stay somewhere else.
- 5/5
This was such a cute, unique retro motel. There is so much to do at the Moxy! You can play video games (like PAC Man) pin ball machines, pool, foosball, guitar, board games, read, etc- There were also so many cool seating options. The front desk is at the bar and included in your stay is a welcome drink! If you want to stay somewhere close to ASU but not a chain hotel, the Moxy is for you!
- 4/5
Enjoyed the property. Unique space. Friendly staff.
- 1/5
Though the staff were very nice, the place is smelly, dirty, unclean. The elevator had it's own smell. Carpets are old, stained, and filthy. The place need a renovation badly.
- 4/5
Everything was ok - but that’s all. It was rough around the edges and was clearly a property takeover that wasn’t done to the standard I would expect from Moxy - the bikes were also out of service and the gym was a bit of a mess with broken machines, a leak and no towels. The staff were nice and friendly but the building maintenance let it down big time and there wasn’t a huge amount in the area if you wanted to quickly pop and get dinner outside.
- 5/5
Property was great. Especially grade for people with older kids. A lot to do in a lobby with games, etc. Was also very convenient to food and entertainment options. Only downside was the $15 a day parking.
- 1/5
I didnt stay and would like my second night refunded.

This hotel had a vibe for sure. Retro games, pool table great service. The staff was very accommodating. Without a doubt i will be back.
- 3/5
This property is convenient to Arizona State. We asked for our room to be cleaned, it never was. We asked for towels to be replaced, they never were. The coffee pots were empty, we asked if they could be refilled - indicated they would but 15 minutes later they still weren’t filled. Beds and pillows were comfortable.
- 4/5
This is a fun hotel. Def had a party vibe. Check in cointer is literally the bar. The "lobby" is a massive lounge with couches and games. There is a pool table and a KISS and a WWF pinball machine. Both free to play. The pool area was sweet too. The staff are super friendly and really accomodate the guest experience. CVS right next door. Free parking. It's not the fanciest hotel I have ever stayed in. The rooms were nice. Bed was comfy. I'll probably stay here again
