Reviews
The hotel is praised for its excellent location, friendly staff, and beautiful views, but is criticized for its dirty floors, lack of cleanliness in rooms, and issues with parking. Some guests also mention problems with the shower, balcony size, and valet parking cost.

The room was not what I booked. The pictures are not true. Small no balcony… The pictures showed balcony and nice room… I got small room no balcony, no river front view…Noise all night from the street ..

The parking valet was missing much of the time. Need to make him stay put.

Room was not at all like the one Expedia showed us when booking. Arrived to the room to find trash on the window sill, items broken in the bathroom, and filthy floors. Room also smelled overwhelming like mildew

Room was fine. Bathroom clean. Furniture is dated. Drawers do not stay shut. Table wobbles. No mini fridge. Love the ice water dispenser.

Good experience staying at this hotel for one night; there was a burning smell in the hallway near my room and the front desk and staff showed concern and worked to try to figure it out
- 3/5
Pillows are too soft, mattress cover too hot and the cleaning lady needs to wear eyeglasses and turn on the lights when cleaning the room. Good location.

Our room was great and the beds were comfortable. The bar on the top floor was nice and the views were great. It was very convenient to everything.

Beautiful hotel in a historic building. Great locations I would like to have had a microwave and a mini fridge.

The room was great but the floor didn’t appear to have been cleaned and I wish it had a little refrigerator and a microwave, I loved the easy access to restaurants on the lower level.

Location was very good and the lobby was beautiful. 1. $45/day parking surprise when we arrived. Parking was listed under the most popular amenity however and the page also said Public parking was available nearby but charges may apply. So, surprise! 2. No refrigerator in the room. 3. No microwave either 4. TV was difficult to use, only Direct TV with menu on channel 1 that scrolls to about channel 50 I think. No search feature or any other media platforms available like HBO? 5. My access to the internet dropped the next morning. They had to reboot their system for me. 6. The restaurant picture on their site is beautiful and on the property, but you can’t charge the bill to your room? 7. The room was very noisy and vibrating, like construction going on all day and night. After asking the hotel staff about the construction noise, they said it was coming from the restaurant above us since we were on the 5th floor 8. No Fan in the bathroom 9. Had 2-queen beds and it had a really tight walking space between bed and wall, not even a 1ft. Difficult to get in and out of bed on that side of the bed

The staff at the hotel were excellent. Helpful, friendly and welcoming. I was disappointed with the room (507), was a lot smaller than I thought it would be for what I paid. Only had one small door (I think it was originally a window), to get out onto the small Juliet balcony. The room was not worth the price charged. Was let down by the experience.

The Cotton Sail Hotel was fantastic! Cannot for the life of me understand the negative reviews. It's a beautifully restored 19th-century cotton warehouse in Savannah's Historic District. Check-in was fast and easy and the staff was pleasant. The rooms were absolutely beautiful. They were clean and comfortable. And the location was the greatest, right on River Street overlooking the Savannah River. The bed and bath linens were high quality. That includes the complimentary thick, plush robes and slippers waiting for us in our closet. It was an unexpectedly warm March weekend, 85-87°, but the room a/c kept us more than cool. Even with the balcony curtains open. Several restaurants are located in the hotel to enjoy breakfast, lunch and dinner and they were all convenient and excellent. However, there are so many more restaurants and shops within walking distance. We will be visiting Savannah again and we'll stay at the Cotton Sail Hotel. We definitely recommend it!

The hotel and its location are excellent. The only challenge was parking, which they will due for a fee. It just takes a little planning if you would like to use your car. The hotel is perfectly located to explore the city on foot, great restaurants and sights.

Room was very noisy. Could here the people next door going to the bathroom. Everytime next door closed their door or the stairs door our headboard shook. Ice machine right outside our door. Could gere it everytime. Corners of walls had the cornerbead breaking out. Repainted walls with not the same color. Rundown. Very pricey. Not at all worth it. The only plus was the staff. Everyone was very nice

Our only problem was the AC. It seemed cool when we got there, but the next day it stayed humid and we never could get the thermostat below 72. We told the front desk repeatedly. They would send someone up, but it was never fixed. The exhaust fan in the bathroom also did not work. They were unable to move us and they didn't offer us any token of inconvenience. Not what i would have expected as a Hilton Honors client.

The room never cooled down below 72 and the staff/ manager told me it was my fault the first night because we had the curtains open. The whole point of having a waterfront room with a view is the actual view. So after the first night we did not open the curtains…..but we did get to hear the street thug “music” until midnight. And the tp I think came from Lowe’s….the sandpaper section. I will not stay there again and I will make sure not to recommend it to anyone !!!

Nothing but location Cleanliness the staff used the paper towels to kill bugs then put the paper towels right back out for everyone to use then. They wouldn't allow ysvto switch rooms after our feet was sticking to the floor and bed wasn't cleaned properly. Reported everything to management only to not have then respond back. Then valet took our car only for us not to have access to our car all night long had an emergency and was told we couldn't have our car til the morning cause it was so far away Noone could get it
- 3/5
On night one, the valet called us at 11:00 pm and woke is up to verify what kind of car we had. The floors were dirty and looked like they have not been cleaned in weeks. We normally do not have issues with this hotel, but this time was different.

So ,the only, again, ONLY reason it did not get five stars from me is it was in the bar/party area. A little loud at times. However, for anyone reading this, note that the music or loud noise (cars, radios, etc). Stopped rather early (10pm or so?). The room was squeaky clean but for some bizarre reason, I like carpeting. But the wood floors were super clean Also, you have to valet there. But hey, it's a city and you are right on the Savannah river. Parking is beyond a premium there So, reading this anyone? Visit Savannah and if you are the type that enjoys a few drinks, some good food and merriment, then definitely stay at the Cottonsail.

This is not the property’s fault but Expedia’s fault. They had false advertisement regarding a bathtub, crib availability, and the picture showing the incorrect room!!! Once we checked in, we asked for a room with a bathtub and crib for our baby and they told us they don’t have either! And i couldn’t cancel at that point

The bed was comfortable and the shower was good, but our room smelled terribly like mold and the floors were covered in dirt and debris. I had a hard time sleeping in the comfortable bed due to the very strong mold smell. I ended up with a headache and stuffy nose from it. The floors in our room were so dirty, we had to wear shoes or slippers the whole stay. Piles of dirt around furniture and in corners and a full covering of dirt, glitter, and other stuff clearly visible on the uncleaned/mopped floors. I paid extra for a river view king room and our view was of trees out of a very dirty window, not much of the river could be seen. The pictures will make you think you are getting a small balcony or a great river view, but that is not so in room 319 or I would imagine most of floor 3. The double tree was much nicer. Parking is also a nightmare on a weekend, so keep that in mind. Would not stay again.

Do not stay here. It is musty and dirty, and they allow non-patrons to come into the lobby to harass patrons by asking for money. The floors in the room were sticky, and the elevator smelled bad. The general manager is rude. If this is how you people run a business, I cannot wait to see how long you will be around. The guy at the front desk was friendly. Stay at Hotel Bardo instead.

The beds were very comfortable. The first night due to the ac system being worked on ours wasnt working right. However it wasn't terribly warm. The front desk offered to move us the next day as they didn't have anything to fit all of us. They also lent us a box fan which helped a lot. The next the ac was working properly and our room was super comfortable. We had a river view and what amazing views. The cargo ships coming in and out of the port. Access to river st was easy. A public parking garage was a very short walk to the hotel. It was cheaper than valet parking and not far at all. The hotel had 3 bikes out front to use, im not sure the process for borrowing though. Lastly the staff was amazing and so helpful. We loved our stay here. Nothing

Location. The location made the whole trip. The A/C was very poor. Had the thermostat set as low as possible and the temp in the room never dropped below 75. The balcony was definitely smaller than in the pictures. Was very shocked. There is no fridge or microwave in the room. If the A/C unit doesn’t work well due to the age of the room, they should maybe put box fans in the rooms for use if needed. Also parking that isn’t valet only. Needing to access vehicle late at night is needed sometimes.

We had a great time and were thoroughly pleased with the Cotton Sail. Everything was just as we booked it. Concierge was very helpful, front desk took care of us and “Tru” the valet became a friend. Perfect location right between old and new river street. Had a room with a French balcony overlooking the river just like we wanted and we will definitely come back.

The best option for parking is the public parking garage across the street versus $45 a day for valet. This property does not have a swimming pool.

I arrived to wait for a valet that was five feet from my car, watching me load up and carry all my things do nothing and when my hands were full, I had to put things down to hand them my key. Check in was great but the rooms are dumpy, and loud based on location. Oh and there is a profound lack of insulation so not only do you get street noise but noise from everything else. Skip it.

The Cotton Sail is in a great location, if you stay, try the River House restaurant downstairs! The staff was friendly, the rooms clean, and the location was terrific! Parking will cost $45/night in valet so plan on the extra cost, but the convenience made it worth it. This is a short 25 minute drive to Tybee Island, and an easy 5 minute walk to the market place. I would definitely recommend a stay!

Very close to everything. We only got our car from the valet when we went to Tybee Island. Walked everywhere else. Our room was very loud. Don’t know if it was because we were on the 5th floor beneath the bar and restaurant. However, they did offer to move us. The balcony room is also not worth paying for. You can’t sit out there, only room to stand.

We always visit Savannah at least once a month and normally stay at Hilton properties because they always are nice, clean and customer service has always been good. We decided to try a different location and booked on Hotels only to find out Cotton Sail was also a Hilton property once I checked in. They were kind enough to add my Hilton Honors to my check in since I am a Diamond Member. That is where the good STOPS!!!! The rooms were extremely small, but nice. We laughed and made the best of it, and after my wife got a shower we realized AC was not cooling. I went downstairs to state it wasn't working and they offered to change our room. That was extremely sad being we had to unpack everything just to make space in our room, but we decided to go ahead and move rooms on the same floor. I asked for a key to the new room so we could just walk our stuff unpacked to the new room and the once nice and sweet lady that checked us in turned down right mean. Stated that was impossible to have keys to two rooms and that she would have to be there to watch us walk out of the room with all our packed luggage and move to the next room. I was dumbfounded by her change and the lack of customer service. Why would this be an issue!!! I told her if we had to pack all thing back in our luggage I was moving hotels completely. So within an hour we checked out and left. Hilton needs to address attitudes and customer service with this individual or remove the Hilton stamp on this property

However, we were caught off guard the first night by the noise from the restaurant and bar directly above us. We hadn’t realized it stayed open until 11 PM and took another hour to clean up, which made for a restless night. Fortunately, Sandra from Guest Services stepped in and must have had a word with the restaurant staff, because the second night was wonderfully quiet. Huge thanks to Sandra for making sure the rest of our stay was peaceful and enjoyable!

Great location. Can be a bit noisy if it a weekend.. however Savannah shuts down at 10pm for the most part. Really great location outweighs all else. Friendly staff. Super awsome & amazing bed.. one of the most comfortable mattresses I’ve ever slept in!

Perfect location close to City Market & the Riverfront. Rooms were spacious & very clean. There is a sports bar & a small eatery on the rooftop. Both overlook the river. We had drinks & appetizers at The Nest on the rooftop. Breakfast too. Food & drinks were very good & reasonably priced.

Also, the hotel is located downtown and it is very noisy there. Cars blasting radios, delivery trucks, motorcycles, trolleys with speakers, boats, street performers - all are right below the doors/windows of the hotel.

The property and room was nice. The location was very convenient and the rooftop restaurant and bar had great options with a scenic view. The only cons was the $45 per day valet parking, and the floor we were on was noisy at times. Overrall it was a nice stay and I would stay here again the next time I visit Savannah.

The room had food crumbs all over the floor even the mirror on the wall was disgustingly dirty. We would have overlooked this but what happened in the morning was inexcusable. You have to use the valet for parking. He brought the car around, forgot to give us the key to the car, then we went to drive away and couldn't figure what we were hitting. He had parked it we got in to drive away and hit something. Got out and he had left the pylon in front of our car and we had to move it. Who does that?

The staff and restaurants were excellent. The room was clean but smaller than excepted for how expensive it was. Also, tge "balcony " was more of a fire escape. Standing room only for barely 2 people. My only other issue is the rates online while there were about 80 dollars less a day.

It’s dated. Strong smell of cleaning products most likely due to wood floors and being an old building. Bed very comfortable as expected when staying at a Hilton. Location was central to everything in downtown Savannah. Staff was accommodating and friendly.

Only complaint is a lack of refrigerator in the room. With so much good food around not being able to keep leftovers was a bummer. But aside from that it was a wonderful experience and I'd highly recommend.

Room was well appointed. Hotel was clean, well located, offered plenty of dining options, and valet parking was easy. Our staff was very friendly, and helpful. Our room was on the 5th floor, located just below the rooftop bar…so a bit noisy until they closed. Not a big deal, but worth noting.

Then there was the $45 a day valet charge on top of the $250 per day room fee. That being said. Savannah was beautiful and worth the trip, would definitely go back just stay elsewhere.

Small hotel, but standard Hilton property, albeit nice. The room was spacious, with wood floors, and the ceilings were high. The bed was comfortable and the pillows were soft. The bathroom was nice and the water pressure was good, but the shower head had a lot of mineral buildup. The only slight downside is: I wish the room had a mini-refrigerator and the hotel needs better coffee. The k-cups are some unknown brand and produces coffee flavored water at best.

Terrible stay. We had the best room available & it was subpar to say the least. Shower leaked excessively & water flooded the bathroom floor (even after maintenance “fixed” the problem) shower head was like getting pressure washed. Had to use multiple towels a day to dry the floor as I’m 8 month pregnant, so a safety hazard for me personally. Flooring even though it was historic, was falling apart in chucks which you picked up on your feet walking across the floor, and the floor was sticky. The door to the balcony didn’t lock. And honestly the view was pointless as a massive river cruiser was parked out front the entire time. This hotel is in need of a serious refresh. This hotel has no business having the Hilton name attached to it. I will now never stay in a tapestry Hilton. This is probably the worst hotel on the river. Definitely put a damper on our Christmas baby moon special vacation.
- 3/5
Staff was rather unengaged once you have your digital key. No assistance with luggage’s to the room. Not a Hilton welcome.
- 3/5
Between the roof top bar and the noise on River Street after dark, it was almost impossible to sleep. We were on 3rd floor at end of building, so we caught all noise from the alley and river street. Hotel was fine, but i would not stay here again just because of that. Proximity to Bay St and River St was nice. Also, booked a river view room and our room was right behind trees, so you could barely see the river anyways. Wasnt our favorite stay, but also wasnt the worst.
- 4/5
Enjoyed the hotel, but the gray, black colors made my room seem dark.
- 5/5
We enjoyed our stay at The Cotton Sail tremendously! The hotel is comfortable, clean, and everyone was so welcoming and kind. The rich history of the building itself has been preserved while still making the experience comfortable and convenient. The location cannot be beaten! We had a balcony with views of River Street and the Savannah River that we made the most of. We’ll be back!
- 3/5
Didn’t love having a room directly under the bar where a DJ loudly blasted music til 1 AM. Also when I asked a concierge about whether the local paper was available, she was rude in her response.
- 2/5
Parking was outrageously priced. The odor in the room was horrendous! The hardwood floors was sticky.
- 3/5
Floors need to be refinished. Our feet were sticking to the floor, due to exposed areas where stain and unfinished boards exposed.
- 4/5
The staff was excellent. The valet service was top notch. All in all, I rate this hotel a solid four out of five stars. Why not grade the hotel less, one might ask because this is a review concerning the hotel....My solid answer is this: the staff was and is amazing. Maybe the cleaning staff needs better training or there just needs to be more hires for that position. Also..... visitors should be aware that the streets below get crazy loud. You will hear the music, the people, cars, boat horns, everything! So if you want a quiet stay, this may not be the place for you. But if you're used to city living and love the energy of city life, give the Cotton Sail a try. I don't know if I would choose the hotel for another stay. However, I definitely would go back to Savannah.

The only thing I will say that I liked about the property was the location - it was a great spot, convenient to attractions, trolley, and restaurants. Other then that, it was a huge disappointment from the time we pulled up to the valet parking until the time we left. There are no bellman at this "supposed" luxury boutique hotel. So, here are 2 women in their 60's taking their own luggage out of the car, and dragging it to the room. The restaurant had no regular coffee on Monday, and also no bread except white bread. The room was acceptable, but that is all I can say about it for the price that we paid. It definitely could use some remodeling. We could not get the safe to work, called maintenance, they supposedly fixed it, but it still wouldn't work. Had to call them back again until they were finally able to get it to work for us. There are no refrigerators, even if you ask for one, and the floors definitely need to be refinished. At check out, I called down and asked if someone could help the two of us with our luggage, and was politely told No, we do not have bellman. I asked if perhaps one of the valets could assist us if possible. She said she would check and see, and if so send him to our room. He did come, kudos to him, and took our luggage down to the car for us. I am retired, and no longer have any Hilton status. I used to be minimum Gold when I worked, and was always treated with utmost respect and received wonderful service at Hilton. Not here.

Close to all the shops and District Live- $40 Valet parking was a bit much with not many other overnight parking options in the area. Floors in the room were pretty sticky- good view but very small sketchy balcony. No fridge in room so bring a cooler. overall- not bad

Bathroom could have been bigger and there should be more space to hang towels when used

The Cotton Sail Hotel is one of our favorite's, the staff is amazing! The beds are super comfortable! We love the rooftop bar! Food is always spectacular at The Nest! It is the perfect location right on the river! We will be back for sure!

Staff was very nice, floor in room were wood which was fine but was very dirty wirh lots of pet hair. Shower very difficult to operate. Location was great. Would stay again if they could make sure the floor was clean.
- 4/5
Great location!! Loved that it was within walking distance of River Walk and City Market. We stayed in a river view balcony room and I would have preferred it had a better cleaning. Floors were sticky and with the dark color wood you can see all the dust. Also thought it was strange there was no trash bin in the bathroom. Wish there would have been a refrigerator in the room as well. The bed was comfy but could tell it was an older mattress (lumpy and low spots). Was disappointed about the size of the balcony. Was hoping to be able to sit out there and watch the river but there is standing room only. Also, did not see when booking that valet parking is required. Makes sense for the area but just was surprised to learn that.
- 5/5
The room was clean, well stocked. the pillows weren't the best but that's common in Hilton properties. And that is the only negative, the pillows. Nothing, but good things.... great location, grabbed a drink every evening upstairs, they were great as well!
- 5/5
Great choice. Inconvenient not to have mini fridge in the room, but otherwise very pleased.

Beautiful hotel. Great roof top venues. Perfect location. Period!!!

Staff was very welcoming and accommodating and the room was pleasant with a great view and cute balcony. All together a beautiful stay
- 4/5
Hair on pillow case and lotion dispenser not attached to wall. Signage from the street adjacent to the river could be greatly improved since Google maps directed me to that entrance. Once inside the building, there is no signage to tell you that you are in the hotel or directions to get to the lobby. Otherwise, the service staff was fantastic, excellent location, and stylish hotel.

Bed bugs …. That is all - still have marks all over from a week ago

Shawn, the lady at the desk stayed on the phone with us giving turn by turn directions after our GPS sent us in the wrong direction. Such great service and with a smile. Beautiful hotel with beautiful views and very comfortable.
- 4/5
The Cotton Sail is in a great location to explore Savannah, and the price is reasonable. The hotel itself is a bit tired, and could use a refresh. Also, Apple Maps took us down to River Street, which isn't the entrance to the hotel. Someone needs to fix this!
- 3/5
Loyal Hiltons Reward members very disappointed in 50th Wedding Anniversary hotel. Room very plain with very average furniture. All wood antique flooring was unique but not comfortable. River view small balcony was a nice plus we did enjoy, and pay for. Advertised lounge and then rooftop dining and bar were colossal disappointments; very second rate in service, food, and atmosphere. Also the dining was third party so not room chargeable with Rewards benefits. 2 out of 3 front desk help were unconcerned and no help. Two nights we had extremely loud clunking neighbors above which they only got quieted down after 3 complaints to midnight. I will commend concierge and house keeping, they were great. We chose Hilton for a once in a lifetime celebration and were truly disappointed.
- 3/5
Elevators were slow. Walls are paper thin I could hear the next rooms conversations. River view was nice, but balcony is tiny.
- 4/5
Very nice hotel. Our only issue was with the restaurant on the 6th floor. It was sub-par to say the least and the decor was awful. Our room was just fine and the staff was friendly.
- 5/5
Beware that parking is Valet only and it cost $39 for them to park my car 20ft away from where I left it and I was told three times that the valet drivers work for tips only, also the management recently remove a guest ability to use the HDMI input on the tv in the room and people who travel allot use that for a firestick or other device, otherwise its a great hotel in a great location.
- 4/5
The hotel is in a great location right in the middle of everything. We had a balcony it is really small but you could walk on it

The first room we were in was on the 3rd floor and had a large step down about a third of the way down. We had a 2 year old with us and so we asked if there was another room because this was dangerous for her to play around. They said they could get another room and so we changed. They put us on the 5th floor on the corner which is directly underneath the rooftop bar. They could have told us we could move, however, the room would be rather noisy but they did not say anything. We moved to the new room and everything seemed okay. The floors were a bit sticky and dust was everywhere (things didn't seem the cleanest). Around 7 pm or so the loud music started. For hours we heard extremely loud music and bass that literally shook the room. Online the hours said it closed at 11 pm so I toughed it out. The loud music did not stop until SIX IN THE MORNING. I got maybe an hour of sleep. I asked the front desk about this and they did not offer to move us or do anything and just said "River street is loud". This had nothing to do with River Street... it was just the rooftop bar directly above us. We ended up moving to a different hotel and did not get a partial refund. Taking that loss was worth it. Never staying at that hotel again
- 4/5

Great location lovely rooms. Musty smell
- 4/5
Rooms are definitely overpriced. However, the Riverview rooms with a balcony are great for those who like to see the cargo tankers and other boats pass by. The hotel is directly on the riverwalk with stores and restaurants. Downside is the sticky wood floors that appear to never be mopped. This was my second stay and I experienced the dirty, drip stained floors both times. The bathroom are moderately clean. The countertop in our bathroom was not wiped down and we found shaving hairs on the vanity mirror which was gross!! We had an 11:30 a.m. checkout granted by a nice lady at checkin, but the housekeeping girl knocked at 11 and seems perturbed that we were still in the room. She posted up outside our room with another housekeeper and waited for us to exit and gave us a smirk! The checkout clerk did not acknowledge our presence until I got her attention at the opposite end of the counter near the windows and interrupted her texting. Not a “thank you” “how was your stay” or “goodbye “. She took the room cards and nonchalantly stated that she’d emailed me a receipt, and then turned around. She was obviously having a bad day or she hates her job everyday. Either way, she does not represent Cotton Sail Hotel well and she needs to be retrained! I definitely will not stay here again unless I get a deal out of this world. BTW- valet parking is $38 a night unless you want to trek around for other options.
