Perfect sanctuary for relaxation and peace

We love Kona Kai! This was our 3rd stay with them. Quiet and well maintained. Little kitchen area and updated room/ bathroom very nice. Nice, clean pool, love that it's deep! Air conditioning worked well and beds were comfortable. We felt like we were the only ones there. So relaxing!!!! Will definitely be back!

We were pleasantly surprised at how nice the place was. The staff were friendly and the grounds were well taken care of. The pool was a nice addition. The room was spacious and very clean. The air conditioner was nice but took a little while to figure out the remote control. We have already said that we will be back.

The BEST place EVER Super location, Service, clean, quiet, and good for Families

Although it was very quiet, we did have an air-conditioning vent in the bathroom at the base of the toilet for some reason and the last morning we were there the television would not turn on. Other than that, the pool was clean the towels were fresh. The people at the counter were very helpful.

Staff was welcoming and helpful. The grounds are clean. The room was large with space to spread out. A quiet place to stay.

This was the most beautiful place I have ever stayed at on vacation if you were ever on Sanibel Island this is the place to be. It’s very quiet. Everyone has their own little cottage thing and it’s decorated like a tiki hut village. It’s very cute. The air conditioner worked amazingly it was just a beautiful place to stay. It was very well priced and the staff was amazing.

What a wonderful weekend getaway we had at Kona. Staff was wonderful. The room was wonderful. Everything was great.

This property has been restored and updated after hurricane damage. The whole property is cut as can be. We stayed in one of the suites. Lots of room and the kitchenette is fairly well stocked. There were two small things that would have made our stay even better: more towel hooks or bars in the bathroom and wine glasses in the kitchenette.

Kona Kai was a very nice hotel. The rooms were very clean and very updated. It was one of the nicer places that we stayed. The staff was very helpful and I didn’t feel like they were hovering over us to be sure that we were doing everything we were supposed to. They were very open and they made a lot of the facilities available to us even when they weren’t on site. The full kitchen with icemaker in the pool area was really very, very nice. We did not have reason to use the full kitchen, but it was good to know that if we ever came with Family, we could cook and eat and not have to spend so much money at restaurants. The only thing that I was a little disappointed in is that they offered all amenities in the office to update our room like coffee towels, etc., but they were unable to be accessed after hours when we needed them the most otherwise, this was one of the nicest places we stayed, and we were very happy with the facility.

Really nicely decorated room and warm pool. Never saw a single staff, had to check myself in and nobody was in the office the entire visit.

Our stay was GREAT ... relaxing in an uncrowded, clean and well maintained motel like Kona Kai was like a breath of fresh air.It was perfect for "getting away from it all "... we'll be back

We had a 2 bed suite that has a large bathroom, sitting area & kitchenette. They also have a full size kitchen & entertainment room next to the pool that anyone can use. There are grills & a shell/fish washing station on the grounds. The pool is lovely. The location on Periwinkle is perfect for coming & going. We had a wonderful time here and will definitely be back!!!

This was my first time in Sanibel and I loved staying here! The hotel was close to everything and so nice and adorable! There isn’t daily housekeeping, which I actually love, but anything you need you can get at the office.

The room was so humid, the A/C could not keep up. Everything we owned was damp the entire time we were there. There were times we needed towels but no staff was there.

As soon as we arrived and walked into the property we were thrilled that we found Kona Kai! The grounds are exceptional, the staff very friendly and great communication. Our room was perfect, with all of the amenities perfect for two. We were going to rent bikes but found everything in walking distance and hopped in the car for beach treks. We highly recommend this beautiful property for rest and relaxation… and the pool and pool facilities well equipped.

AMAZING

The Kona Kai is centrally located along Periwinkle Way and is close to dining, shopping and the beaches. The entire property, both inside and outside, were very clean and well maintained. Check in was simple and the staff were helpful with questions. Room rates were reasonable. This is our new "go to" place for lodging on Sanibel Island.

Wonderful stay. The rooms and whole property were well thought-out, clean, and kitchy but so attractive. The staff was so nice and paid great attn to details. The beds were very comfortable and the property is in a great location. We enjoyed our rental car but didn’t really need it.with great restaurants, Jerry's, at an easily walkable distance and beaches would not be a far bike ride. The only.thing we'd recommend is adding some hooks to dry towels and bathing suits. We loved it and will definitely recommend and be back!!

Nice common area.

Staff was super friendly and helpful. Room was extremely clean and they had some extra beach stuff for us to use as a courtesy. If there was anything that could be improved, it would be to heat the pool.

My sister and I stayed at Kona Kai for six nights in early March and the accommodations were perfect. You can tell the owner Denise put a lot of thought and love into this gem. I loved stepping out of the Great Lakes cold into this property’s tropical oasis feeling among the palm trees, pool, and thatched roof outdoor dining areas. It has a great mix of shade and sun. In the one queen bed “efficiency” the kitchenette had all the essentials we needed for two people to make breakfast, and easy snacks, since we planned to try one restaurant per day. It had the full refrigerator/freezer, two burner stovetop, silverware, non-breakable plates and bowls. Ceramic coffee mugs, small paring knives, cooking utensils, can opener, cutting board, a small saucepot, small fry pan, microwave, and coffee maker. A little table and chairs in the kitchen and another outside the door. The shower had shampoo, conditioner, and body wash dispensers. Nice soft towels. The bed and pillows were comfortable. The owner Denise and staff are kind and gave helpful tips on fun places to eat. It is close to shopping and restaurants. We rented bikes from Billy’s across the street for the week and biked to nearby beaches to save on parking. There are bike racks at Kona Kai and most everywhere else too. We also rode over to get ice cream nearby at The Shack and to the grocery store at Jerry’s. I plan to return to Kona Kai in the future.

The room & facilities were very clean & meticulously maintained. We enjoyed the pool and were the only ones there most days. Very safe. We didn’t even lock up our bikes!

We loved staying at the recently reopened Kona Kai. We were there with our two boys, ages 6 and 8. They loved the pool, seeing the little lizards and walking on the paths to the rooms. Staff was extremely friendly and helped with suggestions for shelling, dinners, etc. We loved being able to have a fridge/freezer/microwave. Would definitely come and stay again!

Very much enjoyed our week long stay at Kona Kai. Our room felt more like a private cottage in a small community. Staff were helpful and made sure we had all we needed. The location is great, near restaurants and you can rent a bike right across the street at Billy’s Bikes. Will definitely go back.

Very clean and quiet. The rooms were very nice. My only negative comment is that in the welcome letter you are asked to take out trash and dispose of it in a dumpster to avoid a trash fee which is something I’ve never encountered in a hotel before.

Although one can visit the sister property to do laundry, I wish the motel had an onsite washer and dryer to help guests who need to change clothes due to the amount of sand and salt at the beaches. I wish the motel's TV did not turn off at times, necessitate unplugging and replugging the power cord and cable. I wish the motel room had a safe and have bins for recycling. I do appreciate being in a dedicated building for my room, the unique keypad for locking and unlocking the door, the availability of a microwave oven and mini-fridge, the presence of utensils and paper towels, the lighting on the bathroom mirror, the presence of an induction stove/hotplate, the unique alarm clock and bowls and plates. I wish there was a ramp to the door for those transporting large luggage and who are handicapped.

We were very pleasantly surprised with our suite! It’s like a mini bungalow very clean and up-to-date. Smelled wonderful right when you walked in and cozy blankets and pillows. We would definitely stay here again!

I love this place and I definitely come back. The stuff is amazing. They welcome you like you like you are family and make you feel home. I really was impressed. I definitely recommend that this place. You are not gonna regret it.

This a a beautiful location. Quite a unique experience for a hotel, and absolutely somewhere I'll be back. Not pet friendly, but thats okay. The whole setup is just the perfect island vacation location. I literally cannot say enough good stuff about this hotel.

Excellent location close to restaurants and supermarket. Friendly and efficient staff on reception. Very comfortable bed with lovely clean, white sheets. Queen room was overall quite basic and a little tired but very functional.

The Kona Kai has clean, nicely furnished rooms and a great pool. The bathroom was tiny but clean. Their contact with us prior to the stay was excellent. I was just disappointed that our room shared a thermostat with the front desk office. The temperature was just too cold for comfort and we didn't enjoy our stay as much as we would have. I would stay again but not in the Tahiti room.

Overall, a great stay. Two things I'm suggesting. Rental #3 One: There's a sign in the bathroom that states please reuse your bath towels. Too help the environment. I get it and totally agree. It would help if we had hooks in the bathroom to hang towels. Since there's no place to put them. 2: There's a very large sofa in the living room. Looks great! BUT it's not a sofa. It's some kind of futon or bed. Laying down on it is fantastic. Sitting on it to watch TV is absolutely impossible. There was no way to get comfortable.

BBQ grills and seating areas dispursed throughout. Free use of beach chairs, umbrellas and bikes. We were surprised to not find an ice machine, but picked up ice at 7-11 that stayed fairly frozen in the refrigerator in the room.

Loved the grounds of this property & the motel was located in a convenient spot at the beginning of the island. The room (unit 1) is advertised as a Queen, however the bed is a full, not a queen. I called the receptionist about this thinking I may be able to be switched to a room with a queen mattress, however she told me (rudely) that all the beds were the same size. Room was very clean but the bed was small and cot like.

The first night we got there the road noise was too loud for us. The staff in the office moved us to a much nicer and quieter room the next day. They were very accommodating. Was overly surprised by how beautiful and clean the property was. Booked online without doing much research beforehand but was not disappointed. Check in and out process was so it yourself and very simple. The property is very well maintained and a perfect location. A hidden gem on Sanibel that I never knew existed before. Stayed here for two nights. Convenient location, walking distance to restaurants, shops, bike rental place. The beach is a bit of a distance for walking, in our opinion, but doable. Super clean room has everything you need, tv, nice towels, soap, shampoo. Nicely updated kitchenette with large fridge, dishes and pans. Didn’t use the pool but it looked well maintained and inviting. Really enjoyed our stay here!

Amazing place to stay. Extremely clean, free parking on site and a walk or bike ride to practically everything on Sanabel. Definitely give it 5 stars for cleanliness and location. We will definitely book again.

Very unique property. Adult summer camp vibe, great location.

This place is fairly clean. It was rustic but it did have a pool. We were not allowed to hang our suits & towels on the rail outside. We had to put them over the back of the chair in front of the air conditioner. Most of the parking is in the back quite a ways away from our cabin. There was no help to unload and no cart to use. It took several trips to finally get our stuff unloaded. If you have a lot to bring in (such as a CPAP etc...) this may not be the place for you.

Great property for laid back people!! If you are the type of person that likes to lounge around in your bathing suit and flip-flops, go to the beach all day, check out the local area shops and restaurants, have a drink or read a book by the pool then this is the place for you. This is a great property in a great location. Plenty to do nearby if you just want to walk around and find your way. There’s a bike rental right across the street. This property has a very tropical and inviting vibe. We stayed in a suite that had a small kitchenette, sitting/TV area, as well as 2 queens beds separated by a wall from the sitting area so there was a little more privacy. Very clean and comfortable. The pool is what I would consider “old school” as it goes up to 8ft deep. The pool area is relaxed with enough loungers and shade if needed. Front desk staff was very friendly. This is a lovely little property and a lovely location. There will not be a turn down service, nor a mint on your pillow. There’s no bellhop to take your bags to your room. If you are interested in those services, and there’s absolutely nothing wrong with that, this is not the place for you. If you don’t need much and you’re good just doing your own thing, then it’s definitely worth checking out. We only were able to stay one night. I booked at the last minute and there was nothing else available at that property. I definitely look forward to staying again and will plan sooner so we can stay more than one night!

This is a hidden gem in a great location! It’s close to restaurants and shopping and an easy bike ride to the beach.

Very cute property and clean. Nice atmosphere. Used the gas grill one night. Only problem was the wasp nest above our door.

The grounds are beautifully landscaped. The property is in decent repair given its age.

The bed was fairly comfortable and the property was quiet and nicely landscaped. But the front desk last was not friendly at all and we were given a paper to sign and warned when we first walked in about their strict rules. This could have been done nicely. Basically, there is no room service and you must empty the trash in the room in yourself under threat of extra charges. the front desk clerk couldn't even bother to say hi to us as we walked by later in the day.

Great location. No laundry.

The location was convenient for getting around and restaurants were in walking distance. About the only thing we didn’t like was doing laundry. We had to go off site but it did not cost anything. It was a “sister hotel”.

Check in was great. They told us we could checkout at 10AM and still park and use the pool all day.

We had a great getaway. The outdoor areas were so cute and pretty at night with all the little lights. Great bed, water pressure & temperature. Perfectly located to many restaurants and bars. Wish we were still in Sanibel.

The place was adorable. Loved the plants and the area around the hotel. Our room was clean and a nice size. The people were friendly when we check in and since we had never been to Sanibel, the check-in person gave us an overview of the island and several tips.

We loved it! The grounds are so beautiful and peaceful. That was one of our favorite parts. The room had everything we needed and the location was great. Would definitely stay here again!

I was very happy at the resort. I even enjoyed to swim in the unheated pool. Traveling by myself (without any family members), I found the motel staff to be exceptionally kind and accommodating. The room was super clean and I was impressed by the extra bath towels. A wonderful place.

Rooms were moldy smelling. Could use humidifier in room. Everything felt and stayed wet. (Clothes and linens) should have a discount for being our own housekeepers,

We loved our stay at the Kona Kai. The location was convenient and close to everything. We felt the facilities brought a lot of privacy and everything was quiet and clean. Decorations were quaint and has a nice island feel. For the value of staying on Sanibel, this is definitely a must. We plan to be back.

Honestly, the pictures don’t do this place any justice. Its very nice in person. It’s extremely clean, and the staff is very welcoming and friendly. Don’t see myself staying anywhere else when I go back to Sanibel.

We loved the atmosphere of this quaint tiki themed motel. The staff was friendly and informative. The grounds were immaculate and the room was clean and well decorated. We enjoyed the area and location and definitely will plan to go back in the future.

Very Clean and nice property. Apparently an employee saw us with a dog bowl (that was in my truck and I used for cleaning seashells) and That employee assumed we had a dog! My dog died last December. We did not have a dog and they didn't even bother to check while we were there. They charged my card when I left. Very dissapointing. But the property wass very clean and nice and most of the staff were great.

TV in the room is not at all working. Not able to navigate at all. Wifi connection is kind of poor. I am giving 4 just for cleanliness and easy to move around. No breakfast in this property.

Great boutique hotel to relax!

My wife and I stayed for a couple days for an anniversary getaway. The property was very unique and we enjoyed the tropical feel and interesting bungalow style room. The pool area was very welcoming.

Everything was just wonderful as we had hoped for. :)

Staff and location are awesome! Accommodating and helpful. the property is quiet and attractive. The rooms are very clean, updated surfaces, efficient, bed was very comfy. Could have used two comfy chairs instead of one rattan chair, if it were a longer stay, some closet shelves would have been nice to organize belongings. Only there one night but really enjoyed the stay.

Clean but a/c was lacking and room was damp. Not family friendly and people drinking and smoking most of the night time hours a the pool. Pool was too warm and not refreshing.

Pool and grounds well kept. Room was exceptionally clean and seemed to be recently rehabbed. Stayed many times there in the past and this was the best quality I have ever seen. Possibly new owner/management? If so, well done…kudos to you!

Beautiful, tropical surroundings with private "cabin like" cottage. Nice pool, eating area, and garden like seating area. Basic bed, coffee maker, small fridge, shower which were clean and comfy. They provided extra pool towels in the room which was nice.

The property is older but very well maintained and spotlessly clean. We had a queen suite with a kitchenette and full sized refrigerator. It was very clean and we were able to make coffee and have breakfast in the morning. The unit was cool with A/C working well. The office clerk was friendly and check in was easy. She gave us good suggestions for restaurants. Good places to eat are close enough to walk. The property is very tropical with a large pool. The drive to the beaches are minutes away. I would definitely return again.

The room was very spacious and was nice and clean. I enjoyed bike riding around the area. Took a drive to Captiva. Enjoyed shopping in a lovely boutique on my way to the lighthouse. People were so friendly. Will definitely come back for another visit.

Beautiful and quiet. Centrally located with fantastic amenities. We had everything we needed. Felt very private. Loved the walk on shower and room decor!!! Can't wait to visit again. This is a new favorite.
