Hotel Baja San Diego - A Boutique Hotel

Was not impressed with the property first drove up they were broken windows with duct tape all over them questionable type of people hanging around the property is not what was advertised walked into the room the room was not what was advertised took a shower the tub was so slick that I fell in the shower I would never recommend this place to anybody unless you're slumming

When you first pull up, it looks a little sus. But it’s actually really cute and the area where they have breakfast is really nice and the pool is really nice and it’s warm. The room was clean. It succeeded my expectations. We will be back. Great for families. The kids will love the Poole like-mine sis. Staff was really great too.

Best hotel, much better than in downtown or La Jolla!

There is mold on the floor, shower curtains are yellow, we got some towels with stains and just the hygiene of this place is questionable.

The room (323) was clean and decorated nicely, however the bed was not good!!! I woke up this morning and could barely move. I couldn’t tie my shoes because my back was so tight. If staff reads this. Put a new bed in room 323 and any other rooms that have a bed like that. Other than the bed. It’s a pretty cool place to stay.

We where very happy with the room, was very presentable and clean. The bed was really comfortable. The only problem was we could hear everything walls are to thin, but besides that we loved it.

Unfortunately the pictures advertised for this hotel are extremely misleading. This is definitely not a boutique hotel it’s more like a motel. The pool had trash and it looked like people actually live here. Ended up not staying the night, it was giving unsafe…. If you are looking for a nice place to stay this is definitely not it.

Super cute cultural ambiance. Very friendly staff, nice sized room, and a lovely pool area. Room floor needed mopping and breakfast was limited, but overall I completely enjoyed my stay.

You have two staff that were very friendly and very helpful. One in the morning was name Laura and the other one was named Laura. And then a gentleman name Omar.

Check in was easy and room did have a stench in the room that never went away. Eventually I got used to the scent but my wife smelled it the entire stay. Besides that the bed was comfy and room includes coffee and microwave plus a fridge. Free continental breakfast was nice and not far from a huge mall.

The hotel and staff are all excellent, my stay was cut short due to local events causing almost all the hotels in the area to be filled so I couldn't extend an this was a huge disappointment, however the staff was very curious and even helped me look for hotels and gave me advice to better prepare for my next stay, all in all I would say this hotel was a 4.5/5

The hotel was nice and clean. The rooms had plenty of space. Willie was very helpful and professional. The only 2 complaints I have are: #1-there are not enough parking spaces, I had to park across the street at Starbucks on our 2nd night. and #2-the rooms do not have ample plug outlets. I think there were 3 total (and one was for the micro/fridge) but we made due.

First of all about boutique hotel is a complete stretch of the truth. When we arrived the outside was old cracked and the Stucco on the side was falling off we. We checked in and when I went to use the elevator, it was old outdated, and there were faded parts of paint everywhere. we went into our room which looked like a jungle full of plastic, dusty, dirty flowers, and plants. The room smelled stale, and it was hard to hear each other from the traffic on the freeway right next to the hotel. We decided to go and check out the pool, but we’re sad to find that it had a layer of sand on the bottom and the patio furniture did not look like it had been taken care of. We ended up going to the store to buy air freshener because the hotel room smelled so stale. When we went to go to bed, we turned off the lights and could see light , all around the outside door because the sealing of the door was so bad that there were gaps and bugs crawling through. The next morning, I went outside to get something from my car and noticed that every garbage can along the inside of the wall was overflowing with trash, and there was trash all over in between them on the ground. It was at that point we made the decision that this was not the hotel for us, when we went to check out, we were not asked why we were checking out early or how our stay was. It was as if they didn’t care we were leaving. We tried to call and get a refund and the general manager lied to us about who they were.

Great location if you plan to travel to TJ! Rooms are big and nicely decorated! Love this Hotel.

Well no one, I repeat, no one ever mentioned the terrible sewer smell in the area specially at night time, this was a special trip for my disabled kid and I almost cried when we started getting off the exit from the freeway and to the hotel, horrible smell, then we found and kill 2 roaches in the room, thank god we spend most of our time out and came back late on purpose, we booked 2 nights and no one serviced our room while we were out, I asked and they said they were short handed, any way next day at 7am we checked out, never again will come to this place hotel baja san diego.

And both nights when we got back to the hotel there was zero parking . There are only 16 units and last night I counted 59 cars. We had to move the trash cans and park there . We told the front desk person but they didn’t seem to care !!

Stinky. Loud motors and car backfires in the night. Breakfast was mid. The room had a funny smell and late at night the whole area smelled like sewage. Likely because there is a waste treatment plant nearby. Beds are comfy and AC works well. TV lags out a lot. We were not offered wifi.

You will not find a better hotel at this price point in San Diego. But there are tradeoffs. Through no faults of the hotel owners or staff, there is a certain aroma in the air. It's unpleasant but completely tolerable.

Very unique property, really felt like being in a hacienda. A lot of things in the plaza across the street. Great neighborhood street to walk the dog. A little loud with highway noise but it was terrible. Breakfast was AMAZING G

This hotel needs a lot of work. It's old and the look inside the room feels like you are visiting a mexican pueblo style house and sorry to say but not in a good way. It also had a strong smell on the pillow cases and bed sheets. The floors were filthy just by looking at my kids' socks from the bottom and my feet (right after taking a shower). I did not try the breakfast but my family did and were not impressed. The room was noisy as it is located next to the freeway. It was very hard to fall a sleep. I am not planning to return, even if it was for free.

The price and location were just right. The front desk staff were friendly and patient. The room was large and beds were comfortable. My only suggestion is that they tell guests staying for 7days that rooms won’t be cleaned and towels replaced more than once.

Staff was very friendly & helpful. The property needs some work. The toilet was broken, door locked broke, the pool is by a freeway, restroom wasn’t cleaned well & the room had a foul sewer smell. Not to mention parking was full & we had to park on the street.

The first room we stayed in was really dirty and had spiders. The ladies at the front desk were very kind in giving us a free room upgrade, but there was black mold in the bathroom and spider webs everywhere. One day the cleaners took our shower curtain and it didn’t get replaced until the next day. House keeping also left our door open all day.

We had our one year old with us and there was no fruit except a bowl which coukd fit no more than 3 apples in it. No yogurt etc... eggs were inedible not even our dog would eat them. Other than that waffles and bagels were tasty. Beds were ok. Staff was the best part. They were very pleasant.

We stayed for 2 nights. We first go there and the tube was clogged so they moved us to another room. This room had no AC unit and no cover for the hole where tbe AC unit originally would go so all day/night we could hear the loud traffic of the highway as we had a window open. The room would get hot at night .The place is old and kind of dark. The one thing I did like was there was no carpet, instead they had tile. Overall the rooms were clean.

Booked this reservation in April of 2023 for a concert in August of 2023. Fast forward 5 months later to day of the booking this Hotel cancelled my reservation without notifying me. Drove 3 hours to be told “sorry I’m not sure why no one told you but we have no rooms and we cannot do anything for you” with no email or phone call to let us know. they proceeded to blame Expedia for no one reaching out to tell me our reservation was cancelled. Expedia then confirmed it is the hotels responsibility. Refused to accommodate us or even let us use the rest room after the long car ride we traveled. Spent an hour and a half on the phone with Expedia trying to book a new hotel as most were fully booked. Finally got a new room total of 2 hours later with no help, compensation or sincere apology from the poorly managed Hotel Baja. Absolutely will not be back here.

Con's: The outside needs attending to and please find another place in back perhaps to discard or store replacement mattresses it made the appearance look bad. Upgrade the outside to look nicer like the pictures online (so that was a bit deceiving). Also, breakfast is a big miss!!! Please offer more than water and your version of "orange juice" - have actual orange juice and offer fruit at the minimum. If you are going to advertise a full breakfast then have it in place. Also, make sure you have enough towels in the room for the amount of guests and when asked once make a note so the customer does not have to keep asking during the stay.

The room smelled terrible (like something rotting) and the sheets made us itch (in separate rooms!). The tubs were old and worn out and DIRTY (you could scrape dried soap out of it) and even though we prepaid two nights, we left after the first one because it was that bad. The staff were friendly enough but the experience in the rooms were just bad.

Being in the side of I 5, the hotel must have sound proof rooms.But it looked like sleeping on the side of freeway. It was very noisy from interstate traffic.

The check-in staff was nice but we felt betrayed as they offered a room on the third floor making it seem like it was going to be nice and quiet. Little did we know that there were a bunch of kids running around all day and night. It seems like they live on the premises. No parents around at any time. The room was clean but we ended up not staying and leaving around midnight because of the intolerable nuisance.

The check-in staff was nice but we felt betrayed as they offered a room on the third floor making it seem like it was going to be nice and quiet. Little did we know that there were a bunch of kids running around all day and night. It seems like they live on the premises. No parents around at any time. The room was clean but we ended up not staying and leaving around midnight because of the intolerable nuisance.

Hotel was lovely. It was nice and clean and the staff was super friendly and helpful. I would stay there again.

We stayed one night because we were in town for a concert. Which I'll also add, this hotel is only 10 min from North Island Credit Union Amphitheatre. Very convenient and easy to get to and from the venue. Overall, I recommend this hotel and am looking forward to another stay if I'm ever in the area.

Room is much nicer than I expected...lots of beautiful decor. Pretty clean...just a couple of minor unkempt things. Surrounding area is mellow. Would stay here again.

We went for our anniversary and wanted to stay local. We enjoyed the jacuzzi suite. The only concern is the noise that can be heard from other rooms and hallways. Other than that everything was great.

I would not recommend this place at all it was very loud I had neighbors that came in at 1:20 am you could hear them yelling, partying until 5:30am I didn’t feel safe at all I’m usually one not bash but the room was hideous itself I checked out early waited in the lobby for my ride and asked if they had a restroom she said no so I had to walk across the street I thought that was ridiculous this hotel is affiliated with quality inn I’m very surprised that Expedia is advertising this hotel I booked it for my night coming back in canceled it that’s how bad it is I also overheard a customer checking out complaining about getting bite and the sheets where dirty I’m glad I slept on top of my sheets I could go on but won’t just a no for me

The highway noise was enough to make anyone dislike this property. Constant cars and motorcycles throughout the night. The pool area was dirty and the beds were very uncomfortable. Gave more than 24 hours notice and still charged a penalty by this property is also very upsetting. Definitely made to look better on webpage than reality.

The staff was very polite that’s about it. My room had roaches, hot water didn’t work at all. Called them to fix it and it still didn’t work. Floor was dirty.. I guess you get what you pay for.. never ever again will I be that cheap

The building was okay, The morning breakfast was not good. The last stay there in 2018 it was very good. Now you are better off to go elsewhere for breakfast.

Hotel is conveniently located a few minutes away from the boarder and right off the freeway. Staff is super friendly.

Although weather was nice ac did not work room was stuffy. No telephone to front desk no bedside lamps. No hooks to hang reusable towels or door signs to indicate do not disturb or housekeeping needed. Beds were comfy and was a great deal for having 3 full size beds in one room also close to attractions

I’ve read mixed reviews about this property but so far I’m totally impressed. The grounds are lovely and my room is very clean and very nice! I love the boutique feel of the room. Lots of nice pictures on the walls…not under glass screwed to the walls but oils hanging like you would have at your home. Many little decorative nicnancks like candles and flowers and statues. Very homey! The shower in my room is a gigantic walk-in. All the floors are tile and spotless. Fridge, microwave, coffee machine, couch, dining area. Unfortunately I am on the 3rd floor and overlooking the I5 freeway and it’s quite noisy but I turned on the fan (AC unit) and that pretty much drowns most of the noise out. Front desk staff was wonderful and the property is directly across the street from a grocery store and 2 taquerias, a pizza joint and a brew pub. What more could you want??

I have stayed there a few times over the past 10 years while traveling to Mexico and the hotel has steadily gone down hill - very noisy, bedding was clean, although it was dingy and the bathroom had insufficient supplies in it and it was not very clean.
