Reviews
The Mosser Hotel is a historic building in a convenient location in downtown San Francisco, with friendly and helpful staff. However, some guests have complained about the small size of the rooms, noise from outside and other rooms, and cleanliness issues.

I booked a deluxe room specifically to avoid the shared washrooms, and that part worked out fine. The downside is noise, both from the street and from neighboring rooms, so light sleepers might struggle. There’s also only one elevator, and it can be slow during busy times. Overall, it’s an okay stay if you prioritize location and friendly service, but be prepared for an older building with some quirks.
- 4/5
There is even bathrobes and icebuckets available. If you know you are going to spend sleeping hours in the hotel (+/- 7 hours) this is fine and very acceptable. If you need amenities like a breakfast that you pay $18 for or Spa Treatments you won't find that here. There is Mel's Diner, movie theaters and museums all within a block of this hotel which is convenient for me.
- 4/5
The parking was not ideal, the rooms were quaint. If you need to keep anything cold, make sure you bring an ice chest.
- 4/5
Overall a very nice stay. Room was very warm and radiator couldn’t be adjusted. Knob wouldn’t budge at all. Otherwise fine.
- 1/5
Absolutely no parking had to pay $44 a night up the road and had to walk to hotel. Came in kinda late and tired went to bed through the night I flipped my pillow to wake up to blood stained pillow that I didn’t notice right away!
- 4/5
The hotel was very close to the city center and the bus and train stations. Overall, the room was clean and the staff was friendly. I definitely recommend it and would stay here again on a future visit.

This place was totally disgusting. It smelled of urine once I saw the room I left. I did not stay there.

I appreciated the privacy in my one bedroom. I wish there were a mini fridge and had some complications with the showers, but overall enjoyed my stay.

Fabulous deal and convenient great location for conference. Older property with smaller rooms but friendly staff and clean. Would stay again.

The property was great, it’s located in a very convenient area, easy to get to transportation or anything else, target, Ross & Trader Joe’s is all under a 5 minute walk. They offer laundry facilities in the basement, which was super convenient! It is on a busier road so if you are looking for complete silence (I.e no horns honking or hearing people) I’d maybe consider finding somewhere less centrally located, this was not an issue for me, the staff was friendly.

The walls are very thin and expect to hear noises from either the hallway or neighboring rooms. Otherwise it was a good stay.

Constant vibration and hum sound from the lower floors, although that may help you sleep? Decent hotel if you can get s good price
- 3/5
Loud. Rooms are small and the walls are thin. Could hear the bathroom next to mine, could hear the couple in bed next door, could hear a homeless guy screaming at someone in the late hours. The bathrobe was a nice touch. The glass panel above the sink was not clean. If you need housekeeping, call the front desk before noon or no one will come. Great location, but no, I would not stay here again.

Checked in and out within 2 hours for what was supposed to be a 4 night stay...lobby was nice, good location. Once I reached my floor, an intense smell of ammonia/cat pee hit like a ton of bricks. The room was even worse. Small but I was aware of this when booking and totally fine with it. The smell in the room was unbearable. Immediate headache, sore throat, sneezing, etc. I got in around 1am and thought I would try to stick it out for the night and find a new spot later in the day but I could not handle it. Couldn't even eat in the room nor open my suitcase in fear of my business clothes capturing the smell. Thought I'd drink some water and maybe was feeling off due to travel, turned on the sink and the water smelled worse than the room. Water bottle fill up was in the basement which smelled of mold and mildew. Asked to switch rooms but was told to come back tomorrow and ask the next person. I thought maybe it was just the city smells but once I got outside, the air felt cleaner as soon as it hit my nose. Hotels.com customer support was helpful enough by the second rep I contacted and issued a full refund. I was looking forward to my stay as the reviews and pictures seemed like a nice atmosphere. Unfortunately, that was not the case and I do not recommend staying in the Mosser in San Francisco based off my experience.

Good hotel!
- 5/5
It was fine, incredibly affordable.
- 2/5
The staffs were so nice. But the entire room smells really bad and the room didn't have a handsoap and tissue. Also, I understand the room is small, the sink was tiny and the little shelf was annoying when i vent my body to wash my face.
- 4/5
Staff were friendly and helpful. Floatation of Hotel was excellent and the bed was very comfortable.
- 3.5/5
It is a very affordable hotel in the centre of SF, with clean spaces and very kind staff. The affordability results from the use of shared toilets and bathrooms, and I was fine with that, as those were clean. The room was very small, which is OK for the price and bare two day stay looks to me that in more affordable hotels in SF there is no mini - refrigerator in them as a standard, which was surprising to me. I would love an option of a room with a mini fridge. I suffered a bit as I could not open the window, and there was a bit of a smell of the old room in it. Otherwise, it was good.
- 5/5
The gentleman who checked me in (both times, haha) was exceptional! The rooms were clean, comfortable, and exactly what I needed. The shower was nice, water pressure was good, temperature was great, and towels absorbant lol Honestly, it's a no-frills hotel but I had a room with a private bathroom, and I was very happy with every aspect of the hotel. Hallway has a disinfectant smell, like some reviews mention, but at least in the two different rooms I had over the weekend the smell was not invading the room at all. And honestly I don't mind a bit of olfactory indicators that the place is clean!

I was unaware that I would be sharing a bathroom and rest with others.
- 4/5
Staff were very helpful and remembered your name, even during a busy season! Location was perfect if you are attending a conference at the Moscone center, but also to access the rest of the city with public transportation - very close to the Powell Station. Lots of shops and restaurants nearby. You can get a direct train from that station to SFO airport (less than 1h ride) - way cheaper than a cab or an Uber.
- 4/5
It was a pretty unique place. I enjoyed that. Price was outstanding! I was not aware when I made a reservation that there was no air conditioning. That was OK for the nights I was there because it was cool outside. But I would have preferred air conditioning. I am 6 foot 4 inches and 300 pounds...I barely fit through the bathroom door and the bathroom was tiny. The tiles on the shower floor were loose and several came up. The nightstand attached to the bed was bent so that the drawer would not stay closed and things kept falling off the top of the nightstand. I reported these two things to the front desk. The ceiling fan was powerful and kept me cool. I did not hear any noise from other guests.

Now, I'm not a world traveler....but I didn't think you had to double check that there would be a bathroom attached to your room. This room only had a sink, you had to walk down the hall to use the shared toilet or shower room. Plus the room had no ventilation. There was a ceiling fan that moved around the hot humid air, but the window didn't open and it got HOT. Good thing we only had a two night stay.

Very good location. You can stay in front of the hotel with your car for unloading your luggage. We parked at the SFMOMA Garage in Minna St. since it was not that far away and the price was lower. The hotel was clean and the staff was helpfull. Restroom and common bath very clean at all times. Laundry service was available at 6$ for washing and drying. All in all very good value for the money. Shutting the room doors is very loud which is annoying especially in the morning or during the night. No breakfast available

Safe & clean. Courteous staff. Trader Joe’s within walking distance in one direction and Target and CVS (& movie theater) in the opposite direction. There’s a Mel’s Diner around the corner on Mission, The Harlequin is next door and many, many other dining options in the immediate area. BART station entrances conveniently around the corner! It’s downtown, so it can get noisy, although it has never been an issue for me personally. There are no blackout curtains. Each window is a storm window with interior and exterior panes that you can open and close. Keep in mind that the rooms are very small compared to motels and airport hotels. No in-room mini fridge or coffee maker (they do have coffee in the lobby every morning). Some rooms have a closet and some rooms just have hooks or a small/short rack to hang coats/clothes. No dresser. The building is a BEAUTIFUL Victorian style and the rooms are modernly decorated. The location is absolutely primo! If you are afraid of other people in the big city, it’s probably best that you stay near the airport, but if you’re coming to experience SF, book The Mosser!

Not a big deal, but lighting could be better. Know that rooms are small and choose beds size accordingly to the amount of guests. The hotel is probably best for solo travelers and young people. You are dealing with a very old property, common in SFO.

The shared toilets and bathrooms are surprisingly sparkling clean - it still amazed me at how shared can be maintained at such cleanliness. I had no issue at all using shared toilets and bathrooms along the hallway. The bed is comfy, the lighting that came in is so comfortable, for the price I paid, I enjoy all the perks especially the location. The lift maybe a little bit slow but it's understandable that it's an older building.

I do not have a car, but I was still able to get around the city. Great location. Everything was walkable. Unfortunately, the property was not able to reflect the convenience. Lovely staff they were overall very nice. My room unfortunately, was not up to the standards that I expected. I wish there was more of a deep cleaning on all the units. I am a return lodger at the Mosser. It is clean, quiet, convenient. The staff are great. You have to get up in the morning and search for your morning brew, especially if you enjoy a light breakfast with your coffee. But, SF is a great place to find these amenities. Enjoy!

The property is in an excellent location close to muni, cable car and train. Many stores and restaurants close by. No air conditioning, had to keep windows open and it was very noisy, unable to sleep. Light from outside and hallway enter the room so room is too bright to sleep. Bed and pillows very hard and uncomfortable.

All though there was many great things about this hotel like the many shops around and the cleanliness; parking was a huge issue for me. When trying to park near it was very difficult to find parking which was the only issue I had at all.

A helpful and professional staff that goes the extra mile. The boiler/steam heat is on when not needed and not on when it is the coldest! Brrr cold rooms!

I like mostly the location of the hotel this is a big part for me as I love a very convenient and very accessible location. Also the staffs were really welcoming and accommodating! Nothing really. The walls are a bit thin but good thing my neighbours were pretty quiet and didn’t cause any disturbances. Just a suggestion to put a kleenex or soft tissue for the room
- 4/5
The central location and right next to transit were key for me. The hotel is clean and functions as a great place to lay down at night. The bed was comfortable and for the most the part I was able to rest. The staff was very helpful and professional with me and other guests.

I could hear my neighbor, but they were loud people. Nothing a little white noise app couldn't cancel out. Great location.

Staff was extremely unhelpful, we flew in at 9:30pm, at this time all parking garages were fully locked shut with metal bars. The night shift staff were not knowledgeable about this fact and directed us to a spot that had already been sealed shut for the night, we tried offering to pay vallet to park our car for us which this hotel no longer offers. We were forced into canceling our stay and find a hotel that had a spot for us to park after attempting to find a spot for over a hour. The Mosser hotel then informed us you have to pay for the night even though we didn't stay at all in their room. By far the worst experience if your new to SF be sure to get a hotel with a vallet or be prepared to have issues getting your car in and out at night.

The hotel is one of the cheaper ones in the downtown SF area vs others. Staff is friendly and helpful. It is very convenient from many tourist locations. It is not luxury and rooms are not modern. There are rooms with no bathroom, so make a note of that. I chose one with a bathroom. The doors also have an opening at the top so your room will never be fully dark. There also is quite a bit of noise from guests opening and closing their own doors throughout the night. Rooms are very small so consider that fact. If solo it's a decent stay for cheaper. If with family or larger group I'd say stay in a different location. Overall it was a good experience. The sheets are not as clean as I would have liked but for the price not much can be asked in Downtown SF.

I did not have a car. On check-out day, I was going to pick up the car from the nearby Budget car rental, and the front desk was kind enough to assure me that it was okay to park a few minutes outside until I picked up the luggage from the front desk. I was going to leave my suitcases at the front desk before walking to the car rental.

Had a great stay at The Mosser. The place was clean, and the staff were friendly.
- 4/5
Room had everything I needed housekeeping was upon request, which was fine. One thing I noticed is that there might be mold on the windowsill inside the shower in my room. Other than that, it was a good experience.
- 4/5
It’s super cheap for the area! That’s about it. No facilities to speak of and many of the residents were sketchy (high, partying, having loud crazy phone calls etc). But the lift works, the bed was clean, and did I mention it’s super cheap?
- 2/5
One step up from a Hostel. Luckily I didn't have a shared bathroom. No thermostat. Not close to anything. Window above door let light in all night. Blinds don't block light
- 5/5
Parking was around the corner. $44 for anything over 12 hrs. For being an old building the hotels is very nice and kept up. Small rooms but not any different than most hotels.
- 4/5
This building has been a hotel for 100 years and it shows. Its really a cool building and a great value for where it is and how convenient access is to downtown SF. But, rooms are small, no AC, and if you need the windows open you get all the city noise and ambiance so bring ear plugs. Staff is nice but no breakfast, just coffee. Make sure you book a room with an attached bathroom if you dont want to use the clean but shared bathroom down the hall 40's style. Walls are thin btw... If work is paying you may want to look at larger chains on the street but if you need a reasonably priced option this works well. If you like vintage this could be cool for you. It was clean and bed was comfortable.
- 2.5/5
The price was really high for the room. The bed was so uncomfortable. You could feel the springs from the mattress. The coffee was only available from 6 a.m to 9 a m. What kind of service was that coffee should be?Available at least through mid morning. It was only available in the lobby. There was nothing in the room.
- 5/5
The room had everything I needed: a sink, body lotion, soap, a bathrobe, an iron and ironing board, and even a phone to contact reception. There were also plenty of towels (large, medium, and small) and a hairdryer. The bathroom was very close to my room and was almost always empty. In the hallway, there were two toilets and two bathrooms available. I especially want to highlight the cleanliness — it was excellent. The shared bathrooms and toilets were constantly being cleaned, and you could always find shampoo and body wash there. The location is perfect, right in the city center. They also offered coffee in the morning, although I get a chance to try it. Overall, I’m very happy with my experience. Thank you for this opportunity!
- 4/5
Not able to control room temperature only a big fan on ceiling which wasn’t that cool on a hot day and no parking available. You would need to park in a nearby garage which prices are outrageous. There was no refrigerator nor microwave in rooms.
- 4/5
The room was clean but very bright in the morning. The are was a busy are so the outside noise was pretty loud.
- 2.5/5
The shared bath has no water at all

I love this place : ) I always feel safe and secure when I am in San Francisco and a great spot close to everything, bank, shopping, eating.. you can't beat it.. absolutely perfect!! I loved everything. I travel alot and stay at many places, but in San Francisco.. I love this location.. :)
- 4/5
Location is very convenient.
- 1/5
This was an experience I would like to forget. No AC, no bathroom in your room and 1 elevator. The rooms are about 10'x10'. None of this was called out in any significant way on the website, so just be aware. Each floor has 2 shared toilets and 2 shared tub/showers. Avoid at all costs.

Great place to stay, very clean, and very close to all places, 2 minutes walk to take the bus, tram, cable car and subway. The only bad thing no parking place, but the staff help me on that.
- 3/5
Poor customer service. Fan did not work. I can appreciate vintage is good working condition but this room is old, mistreated and needs lots of maintenance. A little extra house keeping would help.
- 4/5
For the price, given the location, you can’t beat this San Francisco hotel. Cool old vibe room that had a good bed, bathroom, and view. Next time I am in the area and needing a spot to stay, I will definitely be rebooking this spot. Parking is the only difficulty: I recommend to find a spot that compromises price and walking distance.

Many shops and restaurants within walking distance. The rooms are small but comfortable and safe. Keep in mind that you’ll be in the big city; the windows are double-paned but you’ll still be able to hear some street noise but not loud enough to keep you from sleeping. Mini blinds; no black-out shades or drapes. I stay here often and highly recommend.

The location is excellent and the Wi-Fi is great, but the building itself has visible dust everywhere (both in rooms and common areas) and almost no climate control in the room, which means things can get very uncomfortable and sneezy very fast. The shower was nice, but the faucet was real finicky, at least on the fourth floor. For the price it's definitely competitive, but if you prioritize comfort, you might want to keep looking.

The room had everything we needed. We stayed during the Superbowl and had no issues running into other guests when we needed the shared shower or bathroom. It was cleaned and well maintained and we were very happy with our stay. The weather was great, so no AC was not an issue for us. The ceiling fan and window was all we needed. But if it was hotter outside, we may have struggled without it. Great customer service and great location. We dont ask for a lot when we travel and are happy with all the basics. But if you prefer a four seasons, then obviously look elswhere!

courteous staff, but facility is old. I guess that's what $300/night is worth at downtown San Francisco. Anything better could cost $700+ per night

When you enter you see that the place is clean and maintained. The staff was fast and very friendly. You can’t beat the price if you are going to spend more time away from your room. My room was a place to sleep and shower. I am glad I didn’t pay for all the bells and whistles at a large chain hotel. They would have never been used. I would definitely stay here again. Thank You!

This is an excellent budget hotel. While amenities are more limited than at other hotels in the area, the rooms are clean and the beds are comfortable. The staff is courteous and efficient, and there are multiple areas in the lobby to gather for socializing. I also really liked the restaurant in/next door to the hotel. I did wish there was real milk on offer at the free coffee station in the morning, though.
- 4/5
Nice & quiet. Comfortable.
- 5/5
The hotel is a little bit dated, but has a lot of charm. The staff is super nice and the room was very clean. Affordable overnight parking is one block away.
- 2/5
Had to pay early check-in even though my room was ready. Terrible policy - the only inconvenience was to me. Tiny bathroom, tub too high - difficult to enter. Room light/ceiling fan control took two days to figure out. Mattress too soft, bad for my back. Had to pay for a refrigerator (quality hotels provide free). I won't stay at the Mosser again.
- 4/5
Good location. Basic small rooms. Just coffee and tea in the morning.
- 4/5
Just one night for an event nearby. The room was small, but that was fine - worked out really well and was easy and cheap

- 5/5
Easy check-in, nice swanky little lobby and friendly staff. The room was small though not an issue as it had everything we needed and was clean. Neat old building right next to moscone center west and near lots of restaurants. Great location for the price.
- 5/5
Safe, clean and comfortable. No microwave, no mini fridge, no coffee maker in the room, but the convenient location is a short walk to Whole Foods, fast food and sit-down restaurants. Cable tv, not Smart TV. I visit SF frequently and always enjoy staying at The Mosser. What it lacks in frills, it makes up in its antique charm. While the rooms are modern, the lobby and hallways and stairwells will take you back 100 years. Don’t pass this up.
- 3/5
There was an incident that occured next door to the hotel with police and gunshots. Not once did the hotel notify it's residents. There were several instances of homeless people screaming and loitering outside of the hotel and staff did not do anything to help or remove them from the door's entrance. We were not told that we would have to share a bathroom and shower with the hall upon booking. We had to use shower caps as makeshift shower shoes. The room was smaller than a closet and the coffee/tea provided as complimentary tasted awful.

- 3/5
for the price it is a good option, since it has a good location and overall has everythign I need. Just make sure you understand what room you pay for because last time I made the mistake of asking for a room with no bathroom. Even though the location is centric at night it can become sketchy. I had a person follow me inside the hotel but the staff was very helpful and accompanied to my room and dealt with it. Just be careful of the surroundings and make sure to let the staff know if you see something is off.
- 2/5
Loudest hotel ever and didn't look like it had seen an update in 30 years
- 3/5
hotel was fine, rooms clean enough, helpful staff - no breakfast was a surprise, and i haven't received my deposit after being told on check out it'd land within 7 working days - it's been nearly 3 weeks.

Great hotel for friendly staff (most of them) great place to stay if you wanna stay down by the Powell station area! Nice beds, cable TV good Internet
- 5/5
Clean, affordable and simple room in a beautiful historic arts hotel conveniently located in Downtown San Francisco.
- 5/5
I didn’t have a car for my recent stsy
- 2/5
didn't like the unfriendly staff or the 75 dollar "incidental damage" deposit they took anyways. underwhelming.
- 5/5
This is one of the best quality/position hotel you can find in San Francisco. Well managed, clean with 24h reception. Some rooms have bathroom, some no but the price is consequent. The shared bathrooms are very small but well maintained. Other hotels offer more fancy rooms, but I recommend The Mosser if you are on a budget.
- 5/5
The staff/service were exceptional. I asked to switch rooms as mine was facing an alley and was too warm for my liking. To my surprise, they found me a new room that was much cooler and I spent the rest of my stay in bliss!! Thanks so much to the staff.
- 4/5
Close to the convention center
- 3/5
the room was small with the room's only window looking out to a skylight cover on floor down and brick walls. Inside the furniture looked old with varnish worn off the wood bed frame. The private bath was odd with the sink in the main room, but the toilet and shower were in another. The sink had hot water, but the shower had none. I even let it run for a few minutes, hoping it was just the old pipes taking longer. But I never got it to give even warm water. the staff was nice enough, but not really friendly or going out of their way at all. The one elevator to the ground floor can take forever. Sad thing is I used to love this hotel. It used to be quirky eclectic, now it just seemed worn.
- 3/5
Considering the weekend events the lack of a working bathroom was jarring.
- 4/5
Easy access to the convention facility across the street

I enjoyed my stay at The Mosser. The hotel was in the center of everything and was super close to the Powell St. BART station. Yes, the room was small, but that wasn't a problem. There was room around the bed and enough space for two people to sleep and stop off to change. It was very clean and the bathroom had lovely tiles. I liked that the sink was outside the bathroom, even! It's an old building, so some things (like the grout), might not look fresh, but it was tidy and well-appointed and charming. I'll definitely stay at The Mosser again when I visit San Francisco.
- 1/5
NO AC in the rooms......bathroom was dirty....bed was hard
- 4/5
I stayed one night. The room was fine. TV worked well. Shower stall - good. Staff was very helpful. I had food that needed to be refrigerated and they were very accommodating. Negatives: walls very thin. Was kept awake by man snoring next door.
- 2/5
Rustic and not very well maintained. Only coffee and hot-water is provided in the morning. Rooms have a strange chemical smell, and no air-conditioning (only water based room-heater).
- 4/5
The Mosser is a grand old hotel. If you expect that, you'll see how well it's been maintained and that it is an incredible value. The bones are old, the finishes are antique, but the services and infrastructure are up to date. No frayed carpets or tattered edges here.
- 2/5
Small rooms
- 5/5
Clean, quiet and affordable in the heart of the city.
- 4/5
I really like the hotel rooms and shared bathrooms were maintained super clean. Staff were very kind and super responsive. The rooms did not have refrigerators and microwaves. One room that I stayed did not have any chairs. There were no soap and shampoo in the shared shower areas. The hotel provided free coffee each morning, however, differently from the information of the room conditions, no muffins were provided in the morning.
- 5/5
Great location
- 4/5
Good!!
- 5/5
Very comfortable, clean, great location, like a high quality hotel at a shared bathroom, low budget price.
- 4/5
We picked this hotel because another friend attending the same wedding was staying there. The room was adequate but nothing fancy. A fair deal for what we got.
- 5/5
The Mosser is conveniently located and a great value for the area. The much more expensive Marriott marquee is directly across the street. The lobby is beautiful. Note, there is no air-conditioning! I was comfortable with the large overhead fan but it did get a little warm as I was showering and running the hairdryer. I selected a room with a private bath, and it was just what I needed. All in all, a great stay and I would return.
- 5/5
Amazing
- 4/5
There was an issue with room temperature every night. Other than that the hotel and staff were great!!
- 3/5
Beds in some rooms are reasonably comfortable but others are not. You and your luck.
- 5/5
The staff are polite and helpful.
- 5/5
The room was clean and well maintained. Great ventilation and also relatively quiet with windows down. Easy access with room key card to get in and out of building. They even had ice dispenser AND hot water dispenser available 24/7! Coffee and tea every morning was an unexpected perk. All staff I interacted with were polite and pleasant; literally to the point of me smiling as I write this a week and a half later! Would definitely book again.
- 5/5
Every thing went smoothly
- 3/5
I didn’t a expect a 5 star stay for the amount I paid I feel like I got what I paid for so nothing came as a surprise, the room was a little outdated and I understand why there’s no a/c in the room. The lobby was clean, elevator, and area in front of the property. The area is great shopping, dining and there’s a lot of city transportation available a few steps away and the parking garage next to it is super convenient it’s fairly private and shut down through the night I wasn’t used to that but at least everything was close so I didn’t require my car past 10pm. Also this hotel is in the city in front of a busy street so be prepared for some noise don’t expect a quiet and serene getaway, the noise in the halls echoes and so does the traffic.
- 5/5
only one elevator
- 5/5
Great place close to MUNI and many SF attractions
- 4/5
Nice
- 5/5
cool old building
- 5/5
It was a very cute hotel that definitely kept the nostalgic feel of SF.
- 4/5
Good customer service
- 3/5
Clean room and comfortable bed. But temperature can not be adjusted. Heater, old fashioned radiator kind, would turn on by itself at hight full blast regardless if maintenance tightened the knob during the day. Windows are too thin (single pain) so street noise is very noticeable
- 4/5
Clean, small, comfortable. Decent walking distance to catch a couple Giants games.
- 4/5
This is a nice historical hotel right in the heart of downtown.
- 2/5
I was not the most happy about. I mean it whatever but. This is the first time I’ve been to a hotel that doesn’t have an AC. And the was literally the reason why I got a room for the weekend to be away from the heat stay in a nice AC’d room. Then the bathroom. That sink should have been in the shower because how would you expect to wash your face in that really tiny corner and sink especially with that counter on top. The cable is also bad. It was not a very enjoyable stay. The room didn’t have a refrigerator either. Never have I been one that didn’t have one. lol
- 5/5
Great place
- 5/5
Really satisfied for this quick stay!
- 5/5
I was there for a funeral. The Mosser was so nice and clean, there were no added inconveniences to my time there. It is in a great location, also.
- 5/5
Was great
- 2/5
Unfortunately, my second stay was quite disappointing. The price was significantly higher, even though the room came without a private bathroom this time (I had to use a shared one). It almost felt like the pricing algorithm recognized that I had stayed before and liked it—so it charged more. Honestly, it didn’t feel worth the cost. While the shared bathroom was clean, the overall vibe felt more like a hostel than a hotel. My room had a door with a glass pane that let in the hallway light all night. There was a blind, but it didn’t do much to block the brightness. It was very difficult to sleep because of how lit the room stayed. Even worse, the room had poor sound insulation. I spent the entire night hearing loud street noise—specifically trucks unloading cargo just outside. It was a nightmare. I couldn’t sleep at all. In the end, I really think The Mosser should be more transparent during the booking and check-in processes—especially about the type of room, shared facilities, and noise issues. Unless you’re in urgent need of a place to stay and all the better rooms are booked, I’d avoid the shared-bathroom options here.

- 3/5
The Mosser is ideal if all you need is a bed and a shower at a decent price. Staff were lovely. Bed was lumpy. I have no complaints at the price!
- 5/5
Felt safe leaving my belongings in the room staff kept the rooms really clean and the tv channels had great channels and a radio to tune into the Giants game the weekend I stayed. Will come back soon
- 4/5
Hotel was clean and friendly. Room was very small though.
- 5/5
It is a 3 star hotel in SF. The rates are OK, the hotel is older. But, the place is spotlessly clean and feels like it is well looked after. A no frills cost effective place to stay. We will stay there again.
- 5/5
I stay at the Mosser several times a year when I am staying late for concerts and other events
- 5/5
slept well, felt safe, parking convenient, just park at 4th street end of parking building.
- 5/5
The Mosser is just right for the cost. I wish it had a mini fridge inside.
- 4/5
This was our second stay here. Way better than the first time in 2022. This place is basic, only coffee in the morning. It's right on Union square, coffee to the action. The top floor rooms are a little warm, but the windows open. The price is right.
- 5/5
We loved it here!! The location was perfect for using public transportation and was also a perfect middle ground for all the tourist things San Francisco has to offer. The room was super clean and staff was very accommodating. We definitely would stay again.
- 4/5
all rooms that end in 24 should be the last rooms in that category on each floor
- 5/5
Lovely interior moldings, classic SF period vibe. Carpets were a little shabby, but in all my en suite double bed was cozy and adorable.
- 2/5
He said cant then another guess checking in for alonger stay got to change to the room iwas supposed to get and they gave it to him and i got tottal different room . But just a min ago he told me no that i couldnt change my room i had to stay with the one i got online which every one thatone was i didnt get it either Suddenly i was getting a new room .
- 4/5
The personel was very kind. The room was smaller than we expected. We would have liked that the coffee service will last longer than 9:00.
- 4/5
Was ok - super small and loud from the street / alley noise…
- 4/5
A cheap, convenient stay, eapecially if you're looking for a comfortable spot to sleep and decompress after a long day and night in the city.
- 1/5
This was totally insulting a tremendous inconvenience and really pissed me off. If hotel policy prohibits the use of prepaid credit cards, then the transaction should have been declined when the reservation was made but instead the money was deducted immediately my reservation was cancelled and my safety compromised when forced to seek lodging elsewhere in the middle of the night.
- 4/5
We had a good time in downtown San Francisco
- 5/5
Overall stayable
- 4/5
the staff was really nice
- 4/5
Overall it fit our needs,we just needed a place to sleep and get ready.
- 5/5
Nice place to stay if you doing business! Love it!
- 5/5
Great staff, very accomodating
- 5/5
I like the hotel and staff. I wish there was a fridge in the room. Thank you
- 2/5
I got accused today of stay 28 days which is false so going to talk to the ma ager, i have stayed here numerous times before and no issues, now i have an issue, and he said my card for my room qas cut off. I am pissed
- 1/5
A man woke me up at 3AM screaming on my floor and at one point said "you shouldn't have come through my door you're dead now" after a few loud bangs. I'm not sure if he was speaking to himself but I had to switch rooms for my safety as I could not fall back to sleep after that. At the very least the staff changed my room quickly.
- 3/5
Location is good. Close to BART and within walking distance to Embarcadero. Service was friendly and very helpful. Walls are thin so noice travels from room to room as well as the street noise.
- 5/5
Very walkable and friendly staff
- 3/5
The room is very small. The sink is in the room, not in the bathroom.
- 5/5
Liked the property. Close to Trader Joe’s! Very convenient to business matters
- 4/5
Downtown San Fran. Not in the hotel district, although the Marriott across the street is a great property. Close the Moscone center. Old building, small rooms, but classic no frills hotel. Recommend getting a room with a private bath.
- 5/5
Great value hotel in a less than perfect location.
- 5/5
The stay at The Mosser is always pleasant and consistent. It does get hot and stuffy in the room. Also it would be wonderful if they would consider adding a coffee machine in the room instead of providing coffee in the common room downstairs.
- 5/5
You’ll love it!
- 5/5
Loved every bit of my stay there
- 3/5
This is at most a two star hotel. No amenities other than coffee in the lobby in the morning. No kitchen items in the room. Bed was comfy. The rest of the furniture ranged from shabby to disgusting. We paid $110/night, fine for last minute in SF, but I saw others paid $600 and I would have been livid.
- 4/5
Great location to Bart.

- 5/5
Stayed one day with quick, easy check in. Classic old school lobby with modern style. Room was impeccably clean.
- 3/5
For the area good value. Not air conditioned rooms and cannot regulate the heat overall. Room lighting cannot be controlled with regards to windows letting in a lot of light.
- 5/5
A stay at the Mosser is always pleasant. The room is small but just what is needed for a short stay. I wish they would put a small refrigerator and a coffee machine in each room.
- 4/5
This is a good hotel if you're independent. Separate bathroom and shower/tub. Everything very clean.
- 5/5
Issue is the desk staff are not very welcoming they don’t smile much. Other then that I highly recommend the Mosser
- 2/5
I got a deluxe room. The receptionists were not friendly. WiFi was so slow. There weather was ok, but the water radiator was so noisy at nights! The room's door is not sealed enough and light comes in from the door frame. Also, you can hear people walking in the hallway, which is annoying at nights.
- 3/5
It was a great price point.
- 5/5
Just an average place. It’s an old Boutique hotel. Rooms are small. The beds are comfortable and it’s in a great part of town near everything.
- 2/5
It’s a low class property in a very good area.
- 5/5
Property has shared shower and bath options that are affordable and always clean, clean, clean. Stayed here alot over the years and it never disappoints.
- 5/5
The Mosser has wonderful old hotel charm while remaining clean and modern. Close to all public transportation, easy walk to historic Chinatown and North Beach neighborhoods. Would definitely come back!
- 4/5
Cool old SF building. My room did not have air conditioning.
