Avoid this hotel: shared old toilets outside the room. And the worst they lock you out of the room 1h before check-out and nobody works at the hotel, you have to walk to another hotel to reactivate the key. One of us got blocked going to the shower and had to walk a whole block in a shower towel to fix it.

Good location near the metro. Ramen restaurant in the corner is open late and is a must!! Overall, good experience

This was such a great value for money! The location was perfect and the beds were suuuuuper comfortable with great pillows. The hotel was also VERY quiet. I will definitely be staying here again.

Location, location, location! Just know that the closest and bestest garage to park in is one block back on the NW corner of Ofarrel and Mason. There is a rental car agency on the ground floor. Another BIG note, check is kitty corner and 1/2 block up Powell at the Hotel Stratford. You must check in there before you will be able to get into the Herbert!!! Id suggest, dropping someone in your party at the herbert, park, check in, then help each other up. If alone, you can walk 60yards with your bags after checking in so, drop you bags quickly at the stratford Hotel, park, check in, then walk back to the Herbert.

The location was superb. It was easy to navigate around without stress. The fact that the room was not cleaned daily and there was nobody on site to talk to.

Not the best, not the worst. Pros, great location very walkable, large room, secure building, quiet, great view, our room had a shower/toilet, not all rooms do. Cons, no actual staff on the premises, no bathroom soap, no body wash, cleanliness could have been better, no mini fridge, no ac. Also, not sure why there was a shower cap on the smoke detector..kind of a safety hazard.

Great price and location. I went during mild spring weather so the fact there is no Air conditioning wasn’t a problem but it could be for sure if it was hot!

Honestly get a different hotel, there wasn’t even a receptionist at the hotel. There were flies around abd the hotel had a weird smell

Great location. On Powell street and near Cable car, Bart, and Muni states. The hotel is small and not staff on site. Will need to check in at another hotel (Strafford). The room is simple but clean. No A/C which can be problematic during the summer. I stayed for 4 nights and didn't spend much time in the room which is fine. But I asked the staff (via text) for more coffee supply and got no response.

You must definitely get what you pay for but either way the room is still cute almost like a boutique hotel. Well it pretty much is the shower was definitely the worst thing about the room floor seemed like it was gonna cave in and the water sprayed everywhere except for where it was supposed to the room is hot. The fan does not work good enough. But it’s in a great spot. It was definitely worth it to me.

Everything was good. I knew I was going to have to walk a block from this hotel to check in at another hotel. This was not a problem. (there is no staff located on this property but I knew that) When I got to my hotel room, there was no towels. So I had to walk back up to the other hotel to get some towels. Was not a big issue. Room was clean. Bed was comfortable. Bathroom was clean. Refrigerator in room. Water was Hot. Nice location. Near Bart.

I loved the LOCATION ! Very easily assessable by train!!! It’s in a really beautiful spot with food all around! A ton of sights! We stayed in a room with a bathroom and that was great! Good water pressure, nicely heated, comfy pillows, clean room. They don’t have a front desk at the hotel but apparently was located a block away at a different branded hotel… that part was confusing, but we luckily ran into another person who helped explain the check in process. And While sleeping, many times we were awaken with the hustle and bustle of the streets. I asked for multiple towels but we were only provided with 2, and I didn’t have time to go back to the host which was a block away to fetch more.

I had a decent stay at Herbert Hotel. For the price, it’s a great option if you’re looking for something affordable in a convenient area. The location is definitely a highlight, with easy access to all modes of transportation, making it very easy to get around the city. The staff were very considerate and accommodating—when we requested a late check-out, they were able to grant it since there was availability, which we really appreciated. One thing to note is that there’s no air conditioning, but it wasn’t a big issue since it can get quite cold at night anyway. Overall, it’s a solid budget-friendly choice if you don’t mind basic amenities. No air conditioning but there is a ceiling fan that works

The lobby looks nice There was no air ventilation unless you opened a window. I was a solo woman traveller and if I opened the window it led out to a fire escape. So I was sleeping with no ventilation. I ended up booking another hotel the next day.
- 2/5
The room had no air conditioning, only ceiling fans. In April it was barely manageable, but I cannot imagine how unbearable this room would be in the summer. The biggest issue was the bathroom. I specifically paid more for a room with a private bathroom because most of the rooms in this hotel use a communal shower. The private bathroom was disgusting. There was visible grime on the white tile floor that looked like it had not been scrubbed in a very long time. The lights flickered every time we turned them on, which made the bathroom feel even less clean and safe. The shower was practically unusable. The water pressure coming out of the showerhead was no better than a leaking faucet. The water coming from the bathtub spout was much stronger, so for the entire trip I had to fill up a water bottle and pour it over myself just to wash off. That is absolutely unacceptable for a hotel room with a “private bathroom.” Because the shower in my room was unusable, I tried to use the communal hallway shower instead. Before I even stepped inside, I saw something moving in the dark. When I turned on the light, there was a huge cockroach crawling around inside the shower. Needless to say, I did not use it. We called the front desk, and they said they would

it was in a really good location. Very close to Union Square. There are so many forms of public transportation right outside of the hotel. It was very easy to navigate the muni bus system and the cable cars both of which had stopped right outside of the hotel. Our biggest problem going into the hotel was there was no staff anywhere or on site. They were extremely hard to get a hold of even via phone. we arrived at 1:30 AM at the sister property. When we walked over to our room, we were puzzled to find out that we were given a room with a shared bathroom (we did not book nor an option on booking). Thankfully, the staff walked us over new keys and guided us to the correct room but at this point it was 2:15 in the morning. The fire alarm was set off one morning at 6 AM and there was no staff or front desk to alert so the fire department showed up just as confused as we were for evacuating. The next day the alarm system was going off in the lobby and I called the hotel and walked over to the sister hotel but nothing was done to turn it off. Just like every major city, you will have the homeless. Right outside our hotel for the most part were some lingering homeless people, but the police and security did a good job of shagging them away.
- 1/5
There is no staff on site. You have to check in at a hotel down the block and nobody is at the actual hotel. It is very small and the rooms are bare, one small table and chair. The rooms get very hot and only have a fan. They only have us two towels and no hand towels. The toilet also stopped working halfway through our trip and would only flush sometimes. Do not recommend.

I recently had a trip to SF over the weekend and decided to stay at The Herbert hotel for two nights. I find it a little inconvenient when I had walked to a different hotel for check in, I assumed it owned by the same company. Fast forward to when I got into the hotel room, the room is overall clean, but what makes me disappointed is there's NO REFRIGERATOR and AC. The morning before I checked out, the room was really hot. Overall, I wouldn't recommend it to anyone looking for a place to stay around Union Square area.

The hotel is a huge disappointment. Terrible experience. There is no staff on property and I never saw one hotel employee in four days at the hotel. You have to check in at a separate hotel across the street and carry your towels across the street with you. My shower had hair and a woman’s eye lashes in it. The hotel is filled with creepy pictures of old men because it used to be a men’s club back in the old days. My hotel room had an awkward adjoining bathroom where I could hear the person next to me the entire trip. Bed and pillows are uncomfortable, there are no amenities. I couldn’t even find an ice machine, or a water refill station. I hope this review helps someone avoid such a disappointing stay where I feel like I experienced false advertising.
- 3/5
To Check into this property you have to walk to another hotel. There is no actual staff at the front desk. There was only one light in the room, no lamps. There was also no Kleenex in the room. The bathroom light was flashing like a strobe light and would give most people a seizure. The location was great, but that’s about it. Also no ice at all. Walls are paper thin.
- 2/5
The room was a standard clean but it was so HOT we had to change rooms which caused an issue because there's NO front desk person in the hotel. It's entirely run by the Hotel Stratford across the street. Our sheets were clean but we had no washcloths, no fridge, and half of the lamps didn't work and the phone line was disconnected. Whenever we had an issue we had to call the phone for Hotel Stratford because no one ever picked up when we called the number for The Herbert, despite being told otherwise by the concierge at the stratford.

On a positive note, the hotel was nicely located in the city as there were many options for transportation (BART, cablecar, streetcar, etc.). Along those lines, there are stores and restaurants all around the area.

There originally wasn't a fan or mirror in our room despite the fan being included in our amenities and a mirror in all the photos. They immediately, without struggle, corrected the error and put us in the proper room. There was a fridge and coffee pot which was nice, as well as a desk and TV. Towels were only given upon request and you do have to go across the street, where you check in, to get them. Otherwise, there really wasn't much else. For the price we were able to book during a huge time of the year, I would 100% stay again. The staff was nice, the room was quiet and pleasant to stay in. We felt very very safe with the building and elevator only operating with a room key. Overall a great choice!

Not much. Bedroom and bathroom were dirty, covered in hair, and window was mouldy. Tv had no signal, there was no bedside light, plug sockets were exposed at wall, and the radiator leaked causing my electricals to be in a puddle of water when I woke up. Plus there was no one on reception, which I had expected travelling as a female on my own. And a guest was running up and down the stairs all night. I had to be moved to the Stratford.

not great. but survivable. staff is lacking in manners and the most important thing at a hotel, hospitality. there is no front desk, you have to check in at a sister property a block away (this wasn't disclosed anywhere at any time or in any emails, I only found out bc I called ahead of check in). This was inconvenient as I had multiple heavy bags. The beds had large sink holes in them from heavy use. The fan lights turned on sporadically by themselves. The floors were unlevel/warped. Aside from that the room was fine, and quiet. Wi-fi was good. A positive note, early check-in! I was able to check in at 10am without any extra fee. The staff was the biggest disappointment, just unfriendly and unhelpful. I used to stay in this hotel years ago and it was great, I loved the rooms and the location, being able to look out onto Powell Street from the fire escape. Sadly, I won't be staying here anymore.

This is a no-frills hotel. You check in at a sister property one block over, and check-in was easy enough. There is no one at the front desk of The Herbert itself, and you need to pay for cleaning service The room itself is fine, a bed, a desk, small fridge and a chair. What was disappointing is the lack of even a hook to even hang a hand towel on. There's literally nothing in the bathroom to place anything on other than the sink. And our toilet constantly stopped flushing because the water unit wouldn't trigger. I told the front desk at the sister hotel, but nothing was done. We had to take the top of the toilet off and manually press to get the toilet to work -- for a full week. Kinda annoying. Also nowhere to sit in the room other than one desk chair. Beds are fine, but not the comfiest. What this hotel has going for it is it's really close to Union Square and I heard almost no street noise for a week, although we were tucked in a corner unit. This is a fine hotel for a business traveler or someone whose just looking for the location and doesn't plan to spend much time in the room. So I don't want to be overly critical since that's pretty much what I expected. But they could do a few small, easy things to make it a more pleasant stay.

The staff was first-rate, going above and beyond. They offered us a room away from Powell Street so we didn’t hear the cable cars going by, and accommodated all of our needs. We used to come to this hotel all the time before Covid. It used to be well taken care of and we always loved that it was quiet and you couldn’t hear anyone in the halls or the next rooms over. The last two time were quite terrible. Basic things like hand soap was not there, no body wash, no wash cloth, no hand towel. The fire smoke detector base had bleeding noise the whole night which made it hard to sleep. The curtain shade was all torn up. There was only one light that worked, had to get out of bed to turn it of and no side bed lights. Not sure what happened to this place.

The location is very good. I had a two night reservation, but I never even ended up staying even one night because it was so disgusting when I arrived. I have never done that in my life, but it was extremely warranted. Bedbugs, absolute disgusting linens. In the short time I was in my room, I could hear straight through both walls as they were paper thin. What is even worse is that the person working there said that although I couldn't get my first night refunded, they would refund my second night. I left at that point and got another hotel around the corner. I have now contacted booking.com repeatedly and have tried to contact the hotel repeatedly-through their website, their phone number, and Facebook-all to no avail. No refund and just horrible memories of an absolutely awful hotel. Avoid it all costs.

The location was great, just two blocks south of Union Sq. Also two blocks north of BART station. Lots of restaurants nearby and very centrally located. The room was also very clean, and the walls just gotten a new fresh layer of paint, which helped offset some negatives in other areas. It made the unit appear very clean and kinda new-ish. The sheets and pillows were also very new and clean. The bathroom tiles seemed new too. However, the desk, fridge, etc were kinda old. There also was no dresser and the closer wasn't even deep enough to fit clotheshangers so if you need to hang clothes for a business meeting this place could be tricky. The safe was also planted right in the middle of the closet, making the closet almost entirely useless. I was there for a healthcare conference and really had nowhere to hang my suit/shirts because not only was the closet not deep enough such that you couldnt hang shirts (the edge of the clotheshanger hit the wall) but the safe made things even worse. Also, the rooms are connected and there was a door between my neighbors room and mine with nearly a full inch between the bottom of the door and the floor so I could hear everything going on in the next room. So, the value here is good if youre simply looking for a cheap place that is clean and centrally located. But if youre staying for business .......

It was not a hotel, it was just a room. Mostly hotels provides room service after 2-3, but here they simply refused. Even there is not any staff at checkin counter you have to visit another hotel to get your keys.

What I liked about the property was it was located to different restaurants and leisure shops First off there the website does not say you have to go to our sister hotel, which is up the street to check in for your reservation. There is no on-site parking and very strict regulations when parking on the street. There is no staff who works in the lobby only maid staff that you hardly see and in order to reach anyone You have to call a separate hotel. There is no microwave or refrigerator inside the room.

It was in a very central location in downtown San Francisco. The cable car turntable is not far from the hotel and the trolly passes right in front. The TV was easy to sign into my own Netflix and Hulu accounts. Staff was very accommodating. There was no temp control in the room. No mini fridge or microwave…so unable to save or warm up any of the amazing leftovers we would bring back. The front desk you had to go half a block to a sister hotel to check in so a slight inconvenience. Being right downtown you have to expect it could be noisy.

Good location. The room was dirty, not clean at all. There is not even a small fridge to keep water fresh. The bed sheets were not changed, they were left from the previous guest and they were full of hair. There is a disgusting smell all over the building and the room. The rooms are very noisy and you can hear everything that happens on them. There was only one light in the entire room and it turned on every time the people in the room above walked heavily. I will not recommend anyone to stay in this hotel as the price is too high for the poor service, facilities and accommodation they offer.

Towels had yellow and green staining. There was no soap or body wash in the room. Sheets were turning yellow as well.

Check-in is done at another hotel on the same street. The first room I was given was not clean — there was hair in the bathroom, the bathtub was black with dirt, and there was mold on the curtains. I went to the reception to request a room change, and they were very helpful and immediately gave me another one. The second room was clean and comfortable.

No staff onsite, you have to check in a block away. Housekeeping costs extra. 2 towels total provided for 2 adults, no hand towels. Room was filthy. No fitted sheet, just a loose sheet placed over a hair-covered and mystery-stained mattress pad. Comforter was full of burn holes and filthy, covered up with a top sheet that had small stains that appeared to be blood stains. Tub was dirty and full of hair. No overhead lights in the room and one of the “reading lights” at the side of the bed shorted out the first night.

So the option is either enjoy a 75 or 80° room at night or have an open window with noisy street outside to cool the room down. Sadly not a workable option in either one. I had to check out within an hour of checking in because there was no way I could survive even a single night there. Thankfully the staff was very gracious and refunded everything. Oh, and I forgot to mention, you can't even check in at the hotel itself. You have to walk down a block and a half to another hotel and check in at their front desk and they give you a key for that hotel. It's really a weird situation, there's not even a person at the front desk at this hotel. In short, book any hotel but this hotel. Go book a hostel stay, which I did the night before, it was lovely. Just don't stay at The Herbert. Don't waste your money. Don't waste your time. And most importantly, don't waste an hour of your life that you can't get back and the stressful time it would be for you to go through what I had to go through. Save yourself LOL

The hotel was a great value. It was near the cable car line and the BART station. The room was perfect not too small. The only issue is the shower is very slippery. It would be easy to break your hip there but that’s an easy fix. Otherwise we enjoyed our stay very much.

Rooms were comfortable, cleanliness could have been slightly better in the bathroom (upon arrival it seemed it needed a little more work, nothing major just small details) Staff was nice, nice building, great area close to public transportation, Union Square, lots of eating and shopping options. Overall a nice stay. Rooms were basic, but offer everything you could want. I would stay there again.

No AC so it was balmy in the room. No rod in the closet for the (only 3) hangers to actually use. Had to find ways to hang clothes from the dusty door hinges, doorknobs (ew) or light fixtures (unsafe). There are outlets in the room with no coverplate (unsafe), the door sticks so you have to make sure to pull it into the jamb so that it locks. And most of all, there was no fitted sheet on the bed so when it comes loose, the icky raw mattress is exposed, which is gross. There was no way to dim the lights, so either the room is 100% bright or 100% dark. Maybe the room was cheap by San Francisco standards, but there are junkies shambling around the door, no hotel staff in the lobby, and human feces on the sidewalk outside, sad sights really. Would not recommend.

This hotel is centrally located, which was very nice. Walking distance to many different activities. But was saying that there is no air-conditioning. There were no ice machines or vending machines at all. And there were generally old men that stayed there which was kind of odd. It would be nice to at least have an ice machine to make a drink or two in the evening to relax. And you must keep your windows open all the time otherwise it is uncomfortable. I would definitely consider other options.

I was told that the company ran other hotel's in the c Surrounding area. Check in was painless except for having to give them a copy of my physical credit card. Anyway the hotel was ok nothing outstanding. Room was small but ok,sheets were short fitted. Room had no amenities except a coffee pot. It was very close to restaurants and public transportation.

The check-in procedure was terrible. I had to walk uphill one block to another hotel with three items of luggage. There were no cups in the room for water, no Kleenex, no replacement towel service, no coffee maker. The staff I spoke to at the Stratford were lovely, but informed me if I wanted the trash removed or other attention, there would be an extra charge. I was told to take the trash to a receptacle near the elevator.

Absolutely LOVED IT! Got one queen bed and the room was cozy. It wasn’t huge but trust me it had everything you need for you and another person. You have to check in at another hotel which was kinda odd at first BUT it ended up being really good because you use the key to open the door into the building, elevator, you need the key to go up to the floor on the elevator… which is GREAT if you think safety!!!! It was quiet, clean and didn’t have to talk too much to people which is amazing in my opinion! A very nice parking garage is nearby (walking distance) as well as a lot of options for food, transportation, and night life! Overall great experience! 10/10 recommended and I will be booking again when I visit San Francisco in the future! Love to be in the middle of all the fun while feeling safe!

I love the location of the property for a hotel room it was decent. We were only using the room to sleep. I think the only thing I would want from the room is a mini fridge or an icemaker of some sort in the lounge area so that I could’ve had a cold drinks when I got back from visiting the city.

Bathroom issues: Plug ins did not work HAIR/PUBES in sink AND shower Was only given two towels and floor mat. No hand towels or face towels?? Worst of it all - COULD NOT TAKE A SHOWER ONE MORNING DUE TO NO HOT WATER!! No signage posted for hot water outage.. my guess was too many others used all the hot water?! Overall, not impressed. Have never stayed at such a dirty, falling apart, lack of hot water hotel.

The hotel was what you'd expect for being in the heart of downtown in the Union Square area - it's not a super nice area so that makes it feel a little dirty/sketchy. And having to check in at another hotel was a little odd. The room was clean for the most part, besides the bathtub which was rusty and dirty. It was also odd not having any staff in the lobby during our whole stay.

The room had a private bathroom and a spacious sleeping area with two large windows, a ceiling fan and desk. No fridge or microwave. The floors had not been swept, the white sheets on the bed were dirty. I was willing to look past all of these minor quality issues up until a literal bedbug was found crawling up the sides of our shopping bags. Told the person working the front desk right away and was told there are paid laundry facilities on the second floor. Also told the housekeeper about this as we were leaving the room for checkout and was met with a similar unenthusiastic response.

It was nice to be upgraded. But the heat and the smell in the room were off putting. The internet did not work and it took until almost 2am for the guy to show up. I even walked to the other hotel because he was not answering the phone. There was nothing in the room about a kitchen and I wanted to pop some popcorn I brought with me. After hunting down the front desk night person because he did not call me back, after I had gone over to the other hotel and the lobby had sever people to be checked in, I said ok check them in and then please call me and tell me what is going on with the internet. I was not happy when he started hitting the mouse on my MacBook and I told him to please not touch my computer. The check in lady was professional and the upgrade to a private bath was nice, but the smell, heat from the radiator that you could not control, and the water it left on the floor, and the fact that you could not open one of the windows and then had a night manager that did not know how to fix the internet, and not touch guests belongs was unacceptable. I would like my money back and advise you not to stay.

This is a bare bones room but perfect if you just want to rest and relax before heading back out to enjoy San Francisco. No frills but the price could not be beat.

You have to check in down the street at the Stratford Hotel. We went there and asked to check out the room before we committed to staying. The front desk receptionist did not greet us, and when i asked her if she was waiting for the host, that’s when she informed me that she worked there. The room was dirty and it felt more like a hostel than a hotel. We did not end up staying there.
- 4/5
While the stay was fine for the price, it was missing some things that I’m used to staying in a hotel. No fridge or microwave. Restroom door didn’t completely close and the tv only had the loudest volume; you couldn’t change it on the remote. Other than that it’s right in the heart of union square easily got around town from there and never heard any street noise from where our room was. You deal with staff at the Stratford hotel and they were very helpful, picked up extra towels from there on the way in one night. Overall not bad for the price, safe and quiet area.

In my opinion, if you're only looking for a place to sleep, this is a great option. However, there were a few things that could be improved. During my stay, I felt the room could have been cleaner — the bathtub was a bit dirty. Also, when I arrived, the front desk was closed, and I had to go to another nearby hotel to check in, which was a bit confusing and inconvenient.

It was an interesting stay at herbert hotel i got much needed rest... before i dicovered the bathrooms! Herbert hotel is simple efficient and if no bathroom the bathrooms are at the end of the hall... could become something romantic if done properly. The all gender bathrooms have a toilet and bath tub while the male / female bathroom has toliet and sink. There is also a seperate shower one too. I like it... maybe ill find a girlfriend that way... dunno... better than a "flynders box". As for somthing nearby to do Union square has all kinds of events going on here these days... and at night time the crazies come out to play till morning. 7/11 24/h is your best cheap eats nearby up north on powell its a great hotel spot. Thanks Herbert!

My flight got in earlier than expected so I explained this to the front desk, expecting to have to pay an early check in fee, however they checked me in early with no fee.The whole check in process was so quick and easy and the staff are very friendly and helpful as well as the rooms are very neat and clean.I will definitely be returning to the herbert hotel!!

The Herbert hotel was perfect for our one night stay. It was close to the rental car office and walkable to lots of shops and restaurants. The downside was there was no mini-fridge for our cold food. I did like that we felt safe with the locked key front door. It was quiet and clean.

No window screen making it very unsafe for kids. Uneven flooring, stained dirty bathroom floor and shower floor. There is no parking and no parking validation. Parking is $40 a day at a cheap lot. Check in isn’t at the Herbert hotel and therefore you need to walk to two different places altogether. Not a good experience.

I had a great time staying at Herbert Hotel for the Memorial day weekend. The hotel staff are helpful with my request.

I don’t like conjoined roomed

Clean and quiet, had a pleasant stay. You are in the heart of Union Square, so lots of food and shopping.

bathrooms could have been a little cleaner but were fine. wish there were extra towels to put under the room sinks. rooms were very well decorated and furbished. elevator was good

Great

Funky old place. Small room with poor temp control. Toilet needed a little amateur fixing. Great location, comfortable bed, clean sheets. No manned lobby. The reception/check-in was 1/2 block away. I knew because of the price that this was not going to be a conventional stay. It didn’t disappoint.

Worst hotel ever, no housekeeping, safety deposit box needed batteries I asked for it never got it.

There are no water fountains. No soda machines. No lounges. Literally no services whatsoever at the Herbert. It's just an empty hotel. The hotel room itself is sufficient. But there is no room service or maid service. We were there 4 nights and the room was never serviced. In order to get extra towels we have to walk to the other property a block away and get them ourselves. The hotel sent a text asking about our stay and asking if we needed anything. But it was automated. We responded with a request for towels and water and never heard back. Our room had a bathroom but many rooms have shared bathrooms. Be careful what you book. I guess you get what you pay for and the property is located near he cable cars and plenty of restaurants. But it was the most inconvenient hotel I've ever visited. Ever.

Requested extra towels but they didn’t bring it

Most convenient location, (3-5 minute BART walk) amazing price, clean amenities. I will always try to stay here.

the walls are so thin that I could hear my neighbor's phone notifications, alarms, snoozes etc. there were knocks on the door at 5am, the light came on automatically at 6am, just a lot of disturbance early in the mornings.

My usual stay was pleasant.

Otherwise, the place is great for the price which most people can afford.

We were surpised to learn that our unit did not have an ensuite bathroom or shower, but one is available down the hall (hostel style). The room is tidy, and clean however and there are plenty of things to see and do. The check-in was easy, and the staff are friendly and happy to help.

The staff was great, but the overall cleanliness of the property was poor. I also did not like the communal restroom situation.

As always twas a great stay at Herbert Hotel!

we had three rooms and no one would rent there again. There’s no security, no service and anybody can walk in. Wall were dirty and the bathroom needed a better clean up too. Never again for us

Nice quiet and clean room

be more outdoors instead of staying in the room.

this place was perfect for my purposes! food! walkability! public transportation! friendly people in the neighborhood! quiet! close to my meeting!

I got a clean and quiet room and enjoyed staying there!

A real bargain in the off season ($75 USD/night). It is very bare bones, bathroom/shower down the hall, no room service and a small basic room but the bed was comfortable and it was quiet, and you can't beat the location...

You pretty much got what you paid for. Nothing fancy, but far from being a dump. If you're looking to save money this is the place.

Good

Its very inconvenient as you will have to check in at another hotel which is located at the other street. Facilities are ok.

Housekeeping has came to clean during our three days stay. You have to go check in at the hotel to get your keys. We have no idea until our friend told us before we arrived. Location is very good just right downtown of San Francisco. Convenient for us to find transportation and food.
