Excellent staff. Friendly and helpful.

I was pretty happy with my stay here. Apparently it's a timeshare place, but I just booked it as a hotel. Since I was working in SF for six nights, the Donatello was ideal: centrally located to transit (I took BART, Muni, and CalTrain), equipped with a kitchenette space, and with a water bottle filler just a few doors down from my room. Overall, I was happy with the room, though communication about some aspects of my stay was confusing. I had no idea if/when my room would be cleaned, for instance, and there was no booklet of information in the room. The room was cleaned once during the trip, and though the hotel confirmed a second cleaning would occur, no one from housekeeping showed up to do it on the scheduled day. Also, the Expedia description says there's a business center, but there isn't one, so I had to reach out to the front desk about a print job. They did it with no issue, however.

Staff were so helpful and very welcoming. Never tried the onsite restaurant, but it smelled amazing and we enjoyed the happy hour specials. Filtered water available in the lobby area, along with a mini convenience shop with snacks and drinks. A great location with many restaurants, convenience stores, and other amenities nearby. Minutes from great shopping and food. Concierge gave great recommendations and was helpful in helping plan our visit. 10/10 service. 10/10 staff. 10/10 stay. We’ll definitely be back!

Wonderful and helpful staff, always willing to go an extra mile for you at any time. Great location with easy access to everything downtown. Rooms were surprisingly large and had a kitchenette which was nice, but very clean and comfortable.

We had a great stay. The room was spacious and had great amenities. The locker room area was really nice. All the staff were very friendly. The location overall is good. It is downtown so can be sketchy nearby but we would definitely stay here again.

Large room with plenty of space to spread out and a small kitchenette area with small fridge, microwave, dishwasher, sink. Bathroom was clean and well updated. Really appreciated having filtered water and ice machines on my floor. Hotel was quiet, no disruptions overnight. Bed was comfortable. Overall a great, comfortable experience! The fitness center was quite small. Tons of restaurants around and easily walkable.

Even though they had a restaurant for dinner, it was not available for a very light breakfast in the morning. Whole fruit , individual boxed cereal and chilled individual yogurt would be simple and appealing in the lovely terrace room.

Parking cost too high. You didn’t tell me about additional “large car” premium of $6/night.

The rooms were big, clean, and comfortable. I loved the rooftop lounge which felt like a peaceful oasis. The jacuzzi was very unique and tasteful. Every staff member we interacted with was very genuine and friendly and we felt that they really did care about guest experience. One thing to note is that the building is a bit older so the bathroom in my room was a bit smaller than you'd get in a newer hotel.

Recycling bins (for glass, paper, plastic&metal) are essential for guest rooms, and common areas -- but were unexplainably lacking.

This is not what is seen in pictures. The hotel is small, poorly staffed, surrounded by homeless and open air drug users. There is no cleaning service and the towels are like sand paper. Also, the “Jazz Club” is a tiny bar with four stools and no jazz. This was a total let down. I grew up in SF and travel there often and this is terrible.

I enjoyed staying here. Staff is very nice and helpful. There's lots of restaurants around. Valet parking and very clean rooms. Highly recommend this hotel

Fantastic staff and location, we brought our son and they put us in a room in the back where it was quieter. Entrance is a bit confusing with the garage location since it’s on a side street and the directions don’t take you there.

Spacious quiet room with everything we needed. Bed and sofa bed were very comfortable. Water filter available to fill up bottles. Kitchenette good for preparing easy meals. Easy access to public transport There were quite a few homeless people in the blocks around the hotel. This is not the fault of the hotel but did detract from staying in this part of the city.

Requested towels because they didn’t provide a room refresh when they said they would, every other day. 5. Pillows tired and need to be replaced.

We loved the club lounge. Coffee and tea was available all day and until 10:30 pm. We would meet our friends there in the AM and plan our day. Some evenings they have a happy hour and that was nice too. The staff was wonderful, the place clean. Our only complaint was that they were having wifi problems so we were without it for a day or two. I would stay there again.

We stayed for a week at the Donatello. The staff was so polite and helpful. Loved our room and amenities. We walked to Union Square and China Town and found many wonderful places to eat. Very easy to catch a ride to anywhere in the city. Loved our stay!!

Exceptional and carbon dating service and staff at an unbelievable location that couldn't be more conveniently located to all of downtowns shopping food nightlife as well as theater and business conventions. I was very pleasantly surprised by the size of the sweets as well as the amenities at the building including a spa gym and a rooftop deck that made for great viewing while also offering snacks and drinks from the attached restaurant for a price that completes it needed by hotels while providing more of the amenities that make it feel like home you couldn't really find much to complain about Why did you have an attached garage but I can be a little bit of an issue and access to the parking garage and getting back to the suite was a little bit of a hassle the one day that I had a friend visit to explore ing spaces and conference rooms which I hope to do better next time which I hope isn't too far away

Other than being on the edge of union square and the tenderloin, this is a great choice. We got the suite which had a nice small fridge, microwave, sink, dishwasher, and actual silverware and dishes. Staff was super nice, and everything just worked. Free coffee and teas up on the roof. Not super expensive. Recommend

We visited the Donatella for the first time and will be back. The room was spacious and newly renovated. The staff were friendly and kind. Carlos helped us upon check in and check out and is outstanding. It was our anniversary and the front desk sent up a bottle of wine and a very nice gift basket. We also really liked the location as it was walkable and we felt safe. Thank you!

From the time we checked in, it was great. The rooms were immaculate. It was a lively atmosphere. We ate lunch near the hotel. There were many restaurants within a short walking distance. It was very convenient to everything. Nothing; it was perfect.

Good location, plenty of stores and bars within walking distance . We had a room with a terrace on the 5th floor. Terrace was nice, but needs lights to see during night time. Atleast a light on the table would be nice. Room was nice , but would of been better with a stove.

The Donatello is a favorite stay for us when we visit San Francisco … it is conveniently located. It’s an easy walk from the BART/Muni station. The rooms are spacious and clean. But the reason why we keep coming back and back is because of the outstanding staff. They are friendly and helpful. They go out of their way to accommodate and assist.

Comfortable and spacious room. The kitchen faucet wasn't securely attached and would spew water when it came off.

The staff were great. Everyone I encountered was friendly and helpful. The room was clean and comfortable. Loved the tea and coffee in lounge. There was nothing we didn’t like. Could provide additional coffee packets in room for days when cleaning service not coming.

Room was super comfortable with many amenities. The spa and sauna were especially enjoyed to help relieve stress. Being recommended to visit the concierge for a "welcome gift" as an opportunity to sell a property membership.

The hotel was clean & we felt very safe staying there. The night staff were fantastic. Very friendly & helpful. Bob was very patient & kind letting my nephew help with the luggage. I enjoyed my stay. The concierge Pam was so warm snd pleasant. She made you feel at home. There was one woman in particular that was upstairs and worked the reception desk at the spa and also at the front desk reception that I did not care for her attitude. When she was asked a question she was rude and unfriendly. Because of her I never went to the spa. Otherwise everyone else very nice especially Pam.

CONS: Mattress was marginally supportive with terrible pillows, we both had stiff necks. Unfortunately, Our stay was marred by the poignant audible shouting of nearby hotel worker strikers. I don’t recommend going back until the striker’s needs are met.

We loved the layout of the hotel. The clubhouse upstairs on the top floor was a great place to start your day with coffee or tea. Filter water saves on plastic bottles. Transportation was all around us, so getting places was simple.

My only bad thing is a few hotels down the block there was a protest every day & it started pretty early in the morning so that was a little annoying but not the hotels fault.

Parking fee is reasonable for SF. What we didn’t like is the check out time of 10 am. I have stayed at many hotels but have never been to a hotel with a check out of 10 am. I don’t think that is normal.

Parking fee is reasonable for SF. What we didn’t like is the check out time of 10 am. I have stayed at many hotels but have never been to a hotel with a check out of 10 am. I don’t think that is normal.

This was a great place to stay! It was very close to the city transportation and shopping. At night, the area to the south was a bit sketchy but in order to enter the hotel at night, you have to scan your key card so that made us feel way better. The room was very large and clean! Definitely would love to stay here again in the future!

The problem I encountered was at check-out. They have a 10am check-out time, which is a little early, but definitely not ridiculous. However, many might expect it to be the more standard 11am, as I did. I would suggest they explicitly let guests know, verbally, about the check-out time upon check-in. I did realize early that morning that check-out was 10am. I packed, made a pretty quick trip to their fitness center, and returned to my room no later than 9:50, just enough time to take a quick shower and zip my suitcase. I was already locked out of my room at 9:50: my key card no longer worked. So I had to go down to the lobby, where I was met by attitude and noticeably curt behavior from a previously friendly desk attendant. She had to make a a new room key. I made it back to my room by 9:58, trying my best to hurry. (Of course, it still was before check-out time). At 10:02, housekeeping knocked on my door to get in, even though I had the "do not disturb" marker on the door. In the end I checked out by 10:15. A 15 minute grace period doesn't seem unreasonable. Of course, I would have checked out just on time had I not been locked out of my room. It was a stressful process and I must say left a bad taste in my mouth. Despire it being a really good stay until then, it was enough to make me not wish to stay there on my next trip to San Francisco.

Fantastic hotel. Big rooms. I stay in Union Square a lot and this is one of the best places I've stayed.

Our only real problem was the noise at night! This hotel is right downtown, so you will likely hear sirens, karaoke, saxophones, yelling/screaming, loud motors, racing cars and even some basic home construction. The only way I can recommend this hotel is if you come equipped with good earplugs.

Sirens heard easily at night that kept waking me up. The restaurant staff was very friendly and accommodating. Would be nice if the hotel had some kid friendly food options. My 17 year old even had a hard time picking from the menu. Definitely a more upscale restaurant. I found it delicious however.

The Donatello was beautiful and the property was pretty. The staff was very pleasant. One thing I did NOT like was having to listen to the spiel about time-share and feeling pressured to participate.

The desk staff were fine, but one of the Door men was about as miserable as you can get! Sandra, the concierge was wonderful, helpful and friendly. the roof top area is OK, but think they should replenish the coffee pots more regularly, tasted stale. The sauna and jacuzzi areas were nice and well stocked. Our first night we turned right out of the hotel and in 5 minutes were in the middle of homeless land, full of druggies and gangs of very intimidating people. I wish we had been warned of this by the hotel, it was pretty scary! But turn left or go straight over towards Union Square and its a different world!

While this hotel is not in the greatest area with several transits and drug use, the hotel itself was lovely. Very clean, quick and efficient service.

Our room was on the street and it was LOUD. We heard clashing of bottles, trash truck, etc. The elevators were broken and we have a disable person in our group. This was most inconvenient and should not have happened. Very disappointed.

This was our first time staying at the Donatello and we were very impressed and the staff were all very friendly and helpful. The room was spacious and had everything we needed. The location was ideal with lots of restaurants nearby. We took advantage of the complimentary coffee, tea and hot chocolate on the top floor and used the games room several times during our stay. We would definitely stay again.

Great location and amenities

Was able to catch some of the live jazz Sunday night at the restaurant- it was wonderful! The valet parking was very convenient and rates were on par with the surrounding hotels.

Beautiful hotel. Has somewhat of old san fransisco charm. Staff is absolutely amazing. Alexendria at the reception was very helpful and professional. Carlos was also very kind and helpful. The rooftop club has Beautiful views and its a wonderful space to relax with complimentary tea, coffee, and hot chocolate. The location is very central. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

the lounge on the top floor was spectacular. The stay was ok but we were in a room with a window that had a broken hook or clasp so had a 1" gap without closing. Between a concert ending (at August Hall) and the garbage and EMS trucks wailing all night it was unbearable. When reporting this at 6am I was just given a shrug and a question as to what time I was going to check out.

Was on a very noisy corner. Loud music coming from street late into the night, all 3 nights of stay. A sound machine in room would come in handy for those rooms that are street side. Otherwise, kitchenette was very convenient.

Parking is $50 tax, plus tips every time when you need your car (in and out privilege) ONLY Valet.

I would definitely stay there again.

The staff was amazing! They accommodated out needs and were on top of everything! The hotel was so beautiful and clean. The only thing was this hotel is not in a very safe area of town, especially with children.

For the price, this is an outstanding stay at a convenient location. Decent amenities, including jacuzzi and rooftop club room, but you're not paying for any unnecessary amenities or frills. Wonderfully friendly staff. The neighborhood is "transitional"--halfway between Neiman Marcus and the Tenderloin. If you cannot tolerate homeless or struggling people near your hotel, don't stay here, and don't visit a modern American city.

Great location, comfortable hotel, great amenities with a very helpful staff. It has a great roof deck and upstairs lounge. A workout room with hot tub/spa and sauna. My husband and I stayed here for our anniversary. We would stay here again in a heartbeat.

My brother and I stayed at The Donatello for 3 nights, which was mostly for business. The room was spacious and comfortable, there's even a little kitchenette with a mini fridge and microwave. The pullout sofa bed was okay (not great), but that's the only thing that wasn't ideal. The service was friendly and I would definitely stay there again. For the price, the Donatello really delivers!
