Reviews
The hotel is generally praised for its cleanliness, comfortable beds, and friendly staff. However, the location is a significant concern for many guests due to the high number of homeless people in the area, which often leads to feelings of unsafety. The lack of certain amenities, such as air conditioning and parking, is also mentioned as a downside.

People were so nice I felt like I was at home Just the location, getting there was iffy because the homeless but everything was amazing. Not the hotels fault for the location, just the cities.

There’s an extra hidden fee of $25 when you get there. Overall, the place was nice for the price and I would come again.

The staff was really wonderful, I lost my room key and they were so nice about creating a new one late at night. Location was close to the civic center. Room was clean and had everything we needed.

Excellent place to stay if you need something affordable in the area. The store across the street does run loud music untill around 10PM, but it quiets down after that. The cafe downstairs has great breakfast food at reasonable prices. Property was quite clean.

The staff were responsive via email and text. They had running water. The wifi was fine. The room, the vibe, the shared bathroom, the fact that I booked a room for 2 adults, and the bed situation was... (and I'm not joking) a triple bunk bed made for children. I'd have complained at the time but didn't want to risk the rest of the reservation because I had no other backup accommodation options.

The reservation said the lobby wasn’t staffed after 5. I showed up at 4:10p and the place is locked up. I called the number on the door and the lady had me open the lockbox to get the key. There is no key in the lockbox. She offers me a room in another part of town. I decline. She says they are charging my card anyway because I declined the room on a totally different property. Meanwhile I’m out on the street alone surrounded by a very sketchy crowd of people so I quickly ended the call and left. Ugh.

Excellent stay at a very reasonable price. I stayed here for three months -- I had not expected such a spacious and comfortable room given the central location. Large fridge+freezer in the room, clean and well-equipped common kitchen, full-blinding curtains (They're sliding wooden blinds), the whole place is kept really clean and tidy.

The location is out of their control, however within 6 mins of walking you are in a much better area of SF. No crime or anything i witnessed or experienced, just high number of homeless shelters on the street. Large police presence however as well so felt safe.

Overall the rooms are exactly what you need, and of high quality. Fridge, large new TV, comfortable bed, and spacious enough for my long term stay. Feels like an in between Hotel & hostel experience, with only private rooms. The shared bathroom and showers were clean every single time I used for all 30 days of my stay, cleaned daily by housekeeping. Kitchen was also cleaned by housekeeping and in good shape. Host was responsive and kind. The location is out of their control, however within 6 mins of walking you are in a much better area of SF. Clean, Quiet, & Close to a lot in SF. I know everyone was worried about the area but regardless of whatever city you go there’s unhoused people. The staff were super nice and kind. No parking but I was using Ubers and public transport. In general it’s better to have your wits about you and whether in Europe, LA, Seattle, etc. Super clean but if you get cold at night use the heater ofr ask for more blankets.

There’s a family who lives there so it smells like cooked food plus there’s a kitchen and a restaurant next-door so it always smells like food but that didn’t bother me. They do have rooms without bathrooms so make sure to book a room with a personal bathroom otherwise there’s a community bathroom in the hallway. The donut shop and food next-door is delicious and slaps. It’s walking distance to the Bill Graham.

Nothing. As soon as we walked into the room all we could smell is mold. The bathroom was completely covered in mold. There is no way it's safe to stay in that hotel. We had to park 3 blocks away to the closest parking garage. There is no elevators in this hotel. We had to walk 4 flights of stairs just to get to our room. The room was completely covered in mold. The owner told us we were getting our deposit back, still haven't received it.

It is in the middle of SF in Downtown. The self contained rooms are very good and comfortable. The front desk young man very polite and friendly. The parking. They don’t have parking and the public parking around the corner charged us $40 from 10pm to next day 12pm.

The room was very clean and comfortable, all appliances etc looked very new. The TV was huge and the mini fridge was cute! The bed was extremely comfortable. All of the staff we met were friendly and helpful. Not the hotel's fault, but the neighbourhood is very sketchy and even the cafe attached, which we had vouchers for, was pretty rough and I wasn't happy to bring my daughter around the surrounding streets. The only other thing is, the room has a fan rather than aircon and the fan is so loud I really couldn't leave it on. You can open the windows but there's obviously a lot of street noise as well.

While the hotel was not in a great location and it could get loud outside (Ironically, I chose this hotel because I needed to be at that location), the hotel itself was fantastic. Jay at the front desk was friendly and helpful. The room was extremely clean, tidy, and comfortable. If I need to come back to this location, I will definitely stay here again.

It was a wonderful stay! I went with three girls in total, and we felt safe the entire time. We were greeted by a very nice receptionist that took care of us the entire trip, and the breakfast staff were incredibly friendly as well. The room and lobby was clean, and the dining area was incredibly cute. I reccomend staying at this hotel to anyone visiting, for the price it cannot be beat. It was super close to various stores like Walgreens and public transportation, perfect for travelling.

Ram’s is located a block and a half from my school and has a cafe on the corner that has good lattes and food. The hotel has wood shutters that take away a good deal of downtown noise and the fan and heater are perfect for any adjustments I need to handle with SF weather. The staff is friendly and the beds are comfortable. I stay here every time I come to town.

My biggest complain is that the neighborhood is very unsafe. I literally saw drug deals going on in broad daylight. Room was great, had its own shower and clean, but the hallways smell really bad, I assume it’s because it’s old. I just can’t look past how dirty the neighborhood is, it smells of urine, trash everywhere and there are homeless/unstable people walking everywhere.

It was very difficult to find Parking. On the website it says available parking for $30 off site. This IS FALSE. We called the hotel to give us more information on this $30 parking. when we arrived at that parking structure they told us there was no overnight parking. We had to go to 3 different parking structures just for them to tell us no overnight parking is available. We had to pay $80 for one night at parking away from the hotel. Hotel has NO AC. Very compact.

My husband and I arrived within checking in hours. We drove around for 40 minutes looking for a parking spot and the front door was locked upon our arrival. We spent a total of 30 minutes knowing on the door/ringing the bell trying to get in. NO ONE EVER CAME TO LET US IN AND WE HAD TO FIND ACCOMMODATION ELSEWHERE. The neighborhood is also super sketchy and we watched a man looking in all the car windows looking doe valubles.

The bathroom was recently remodelled and for the location, the room was a good size. Downsides were having to walk up a large flight of stairs from street level with luggage, and having to buzz staff to get in, which wasn’t an issue as they were very responsive but a minor concern when arriving back late at night.

The area had been a rough area and is not far from remaining rough areas, but Twitter and Uber headquarters are now within a block or two from Ram’s Hotel, and with that comes new amenities, like the Market on Market, which is the most perfect clone of a Whole Foods Market I’ve ever seen. Of course, that market is fairly expensive, but it’s a three minute walk from your room at Ram’s Hotel. The only two things I would change about Ram’s Hotel would be the sign (it doesn’t hint how nice this place really is), and I would make it so that rather than buzzing the front desk to enter the building, the room key could open the front door. Regardless, I will be staying there again the next time I visit SF.

I was going to give the Ram's Hotel 4 of 5 stars because it had safe, secure accommodations, that is in an otherwise sketchy neighborhood. The TV, bathroom and shower, and sink in the room were nice. The bed was comfortable, and the clean towels were plentiful. There was no elevator, but I knew that before I booked the property. I was there for 7 nights. I was having a lovely time until the sixth night when I was bitten by a bed bug. It got me good because when I squished him my blood came out of his nasty little ugly body. I didn't sleep well the seventh night because I kept thinking of bed bugs. I think I only encountered one bed bug, but one is too many. So I reduced my overall score to the equivalent of 1 out of 5 stars. Bed bugs affect cleanliness. All week I had been thinking I found my new favorite budget hotel in San Francisco, but now I know I will never book it again.

Don’t be us: we forgot shower shoes for the shared shower. (We didn’t worry about cleanliness; just a worry about what other people might bring in on their feet.) The room did its job. It was in great condition. Nice to have a sink in the room to wash up before bed. Managers were all very helpful. Neighborhood was a little close to the tenderloin. No one was outright rude or threatening but did see someone shooting up on a walk home one night. Thank you for being accommodating.

We were reluctant to book this hotel based on the ratings, but it was within our price range and we really wanted to stay close to Fisherman's Wharf, so we took a leap of faith. I was very pleasantly surprised! We enjoyed our stay very much. There is not an elevator, so you must carry your luggage up the stairs, but that wasn't a huge deal. We had to pay a $15 early check in fee to get our room at 1pm instead of 3. The entire building was very clean, as was the room. You can tell they have done a lot of renovations to make this hotel very nice and they were done very well. The bed and pillows were comfortable. It had nice towels, a luggage rack, a dresser and night side table with drawers, DirecTV including HBO, a couch, extra pillows and blankets in an ottoman, a space heater, fan, blow dryer, and mini toiletries. Here's the only downside. And while it didn't bother us, this could be a deal breaker for some. The hotel is on a very loud, noisy street. At night, it was insanely loud outside. We sleep through all noises, so we put a fan on to distract the noise and we were fine. But you will hear loud traffic, people yelling and screaming, and loud music blaring. We felt really safe in the hotel. They lock the main door and you must buzz to get in after certain hours. All in all, we really liked this hotel and will absolutely consider staying here again next time we visit. NOTE: Not all rooms have a private bathroom in the room, so look out for that when booking.

Great location for walking to must see tourist locations. Very good service. Location is on a busy street, San Francisco rarely sleeps at night. Excellent parking recommendations.

There is no elevator, but overall hotel is ok. OK for downtown. It means: not so many homeless people and rats near the hotel.

Ram's Hotel is a great deal in a city full of expensive hotels. The location is very convenient - near BART and several bus and train options, and some really good, affordable restaurants. It is right on the edge of the Tenderloin but the general vicinity of the hotel is fine- a bit of street noise but not overly disruptive. The room was very comfortable, clean and modern looking. Shared bathroom was clean at all times- a bit busy in the mornings but we were able to get a turn at the shower pretty quickly. The bed was very comfortable. I would definitely stay here again if I come back to San Francisco.

Within 1hour of our stay we found a bed bug crawling on the bed. After reported the staff didn't seem too concerned. Tried to blame us for brining them. We demanded a refund and left. Do NOT stay here.

It has a community bathroom and lots of homeless people hang out around the front door, sometimes you might even see them in the halls . Since it’s community bathrooms , you gotta walk your girlfriend down there every time to make sure the locals don’t get any ideas . It’s really shady ....

I liked it. Paid a little more to have my own bathroom, which I was totally cool with. Cute little room, not to much touristy stuff but I like it better that way, you get to see the real City. Will totally stay again.

Stayed two nights here. Centrally located and a good place to stay for the price. The hotel is clean and bathrooms all updated. We opted for private bathroom. If you are looking for a swanky place, this is not it. It was great for us because we spent little time in our room while we explored the city.

I booked a "queen room with a city view" and got the queen room with a window viewing a wall. Within two hours in the room, I was bitten six times by bed bugs. When I went to the desk to inform, the clerk asked, "In THAT room?" So, he said he'd switch me, but not without bringing me along for his inspection of the first room. Next morning, I unintentionally woke up AT checkout time by the younger clerk's knocking. When I opened the door, told him that and apologized, he was extremely rude and threatened to keep my $150 deposit. Then there was someone knocking three more times within the next 40 minutes while I hurriedly tried to pack, so as not to lose my deposit. Worst experience in any hotel I've ever been in.

I stayed here because all the 3-4 star hotels were not available. I had low expectations going in, and I was happy about how clean everything was. I'm glad the lady who checked me in told me that the washrooms upstairs are much better (private bath/shower rooms rather than shower/toilet stalls). I want to flag is that the neighborhood is really sketchy, and there are noisy homeless people hanging around across the street. It is noisy (homeless people and loud cars/trucks in the middle of the night) if you leave the window open a crack.

I'm a bit biased, as my experience at the front desk has always been memorably lovely. The place smells like fresh paint, it's clean, there's DirecTV, basins in the room, large beds. I gave a couple of things less than four stars: many fellow Americans are galled at shared bathrooms, but suck it up; my only complaint was that perhaps the sheets were a bit rough, it is not at all wheelchair accessible, there are no phones in the room... But it does have free wi-fi, and I have to say, the lower ratings were probably by trysting couples or moresomes who attributed their lack of chemistry or the fallout from their interpersonal dramas to the surroundings, when all depends on them... And it's no longer a smoking hotel! Also, in all it's history with me the hotel has never given me any cringeworthy anecdotes to recall, and I'd like to think as a guest I've always done right by it and its owners...

Good value for the money, I just only want to comment that my room during a 5 days stay was never cleaned, I use the same towels and bed linen all those days, maybe i have to ask for that but i did not see any message or something, the shared bathroom was okey, super clean, with enought space. The location is quite good.

Bathrooms on 3rd floor are remodeled and feel a little nicer. Sharing a bathroom is still odd to me. The owner was super nice. The room was small, but not bad. Could have been a little cleaner, but it was not filthy. I would stay here again and I would recommend it to others at this price point. There was some drug activity in the area but somehow still, we walked around at 2:30AM and it wasn't/didn't feel unsafe.

I stayed there after the Hamilton show. I walked about 3 blocks (max) from the theater to the entrance to the hotel. It was about one block into a seedier neighborhood. It didn't feel exactly safe, but the activity was mostly homeless people being loud. I buzzed into the hotel, and walked up a flight of stairs to the landing where an office door was located. It's one of those split doors top and bottom. I knocked and someone opened the top of the door. There were no seats or anything looking like a lobby on this landing. They took my ID, and credit card, and handed me back everything with a door card key. The room was one flight up, no elevators that I could see, and along a passage. There were two restrooms with showers for guestrooms that did not have a bathroom inside, presumably for less money. Those floors were wet, but otherwise looked clean with decent fixtures. The room was clean and had decent fixtures, but was rather spartan, and small. I think for SF it was a very good rate, but not overly comfortable. I had an ok night's sleep. The staff were polite and efficient, but they had somehow mixed up my credit card info for someone else's when I was checking in. When I gave them my card they straightened it out. When I checked out they said because I went through Expedia, that the receipt would be emailed to me. The neighborhood was fine in the morning.

Wonderful location, one block from all transit connections. Bathrooms are down the hall, but rooms offer a pedestal sink. No air conditioning, so we placed the room fan in the window for cooling and to act as white noise since the open window allowed the street noise to enter the room. We brought our own sheets because of the potential threat of bed bugs in hotels such as this. We stayed 5 nights without a problem; however, on the last night, the fitted sheet slipped off and I got about 15 bed bug bites. I don't mind that since I saved $600 by staying here, just wish I had looked a bit more closely at the bed upon arrival. it was clear that another room was receiving some sort of treatment, which tells me that the hotel is aware of the situation and working toward remedy. Also, exterior of hotel is newly painted in a very imaginative manner, which is really cool. Hotel staff, which we only saw twice, were very helpful. You need to get buzzed in at front door each time you enter; however, that never took longer than 5 seconds. There is a bar across the street that draws some dubious lingerers, but we had no trouble with anybody. Also across the street is a corner store for conveniences purchases.

The door next to us keeps slamming, soundproofing not good that we did not sleep very well from next door noise. Second floor has public restroom but no sink. Excellent location though, it's in the heart of downtown. Parking is ample, we don't have to pay or walk blocks. Street parking in front is ample.

I didn't even end up staying. Checked in late and checked out 30 minutes later. My room smelled like cigarettes yet there was a NO SMOKING sign on the bureau. The bed spread was disgusting and stained. The chair in the room was disgusting and stained. There was paint chipping off the wall and onto the bed. The shared bathrooms were dingy and dirty. DO NOT STAY HERE.

Room was small but comfortable. Wish the shower was a little bigger and had a shelf for shampoo and body wash, but the temp was easy to control and consistent once set. Staff was rarely visible, but they always responded to the bell (to open the door for you) quickly. The area has some "characters", but there was a great breakfast place two doors down.
