Reviews
The Mayflower Hotel is a historic, charming establishment with a prime location in San Francisco. Guests appreciate the friendly and helpful staff, clean rooms, and unique vintage atmosphere. However, some guests find the breakfast offerings limited and the rooms a bit dated.

- Limited breakfast offerings

Our family of 4 stayed here for 4 nights and we had a great time. Our room was clean with clean sheets and towels. Front desk was always polite and very helpful. Breakfast was more than enough to last the morning exploring the city. The pictures match the hotel. Location was perfect to all main activities. The store right next door was a win!

Good location, Good hotel, clean rooms, comfortable bed, and outstanding service. Had a wonderful stay and would highly recommend it.

The hotel location is great. My room had a microwave, fridge and a few plates, cups and bowls. That was really good!
- 5/5
Very nice staff. Breakfast was good. Most of the time it was very quiet, only a few roudy people a couple of nights. Ez to get around if you know how to use public transportation or wayvo/ uber rides. Will recommend to friends!

The location was very nice next to Union Square, no noise during night, the staff was very kind, the breakfast is good. The room is very big. Everything was clean. The building is a bit old.

For an older hotel it's been maintained well and has kept its period style and charm. There are modern upgrades in the rooms, but not too many. The hall carpets are older and not tacked down tightly, so an older adult might be a little off balance. The elevator was extremely welcome with luggage and for anyone with a disability. It's a fair walk uphill from the BART but it's a great location. The heater in the room did not seem to work though, so climate control is a challenge.

The historical nature of the hotel made the stay enjoyable. From the antique elevator to the architectural accents, to the grand lobby with overlooking balcony the hotel is great. Definitely not a cookie cutter chain facility. There wasn't air-conditioning but it wasn't an issue. There are ceiling fans and windows that offers nice breezes. The room cooled down quickly after a day exploring the city. Only negative was the limited electrical outlets in the room but that's the nature of an old building. The breakfast in the dining room could have a better layout but again it's probably due to the power outlet availability.

Room was very spacious and impeccably clean. Bed was very comfortable. Ample storage space (two closets with hangers and hooks). Room had a small kitchenette with a sink, a microwave, and a mini fridge (and glasses, plates, and cutlery). Breakfast is included (bread, coffee, hot water, Belgian waffles, fruit, breakfast cereal etc.).

The showerhead only went up to my neck. I had to bend down underneath it just to use it. Also, the bathroom is kind of dangerous due to the small size of it. The closet next-door to the bathroom was bigger than the bathroom. I suggest they tear it out and just make one big bathroom. We never did use the closet .The worst part of the room was there was no AC. There’s two days where it was 76° and I can only open up the bathroom window due to it only one having a screen. The other windows do not even have screens. I went down and notified them of this, and they can’t fix the situation.. I could not turn on the ceiling fan due to the amount of dirt that was on top of the blades. Just like with any hotel you get what you pay for.

Room was nice ,didn't find air conditioning but it was cool outside so family opened windows .Elevator takes getting used to but it was a adventure.

Room was not fancy, but functional, uncluttered and clean. My room had 2 large walk-in closets. The room overlooked an alley, so there was no view, but very little street noise. Breakfast was a good value. Perhaps it would be possible to add yogurt or peanut butter as menu options. Staff pleasant and helpful.

I feel so impressed with hotel design, comfortable lobby, and helpful staff. High ceilings make the room airy and large. Breakfast is simple enough to please stomach. Highly appreciate this place.

Good location. Super close if you are seeing a show at the Masonic and only a few blocks to China Town and to Union Square. Spacious room. Hotel has a little old world charm. Reasonable rates. The market immediately next door was super handy. A few eating options nearby as well. No parking on site (not unusual) but a few garages within a couple of blocks. The included breakfast is a nice option but it is just average. Nothing that you wouldn't find at budget chain hotels. The only protein is hard boiled eggs. Everything else leans heavily towards carbs and somewhat sugary carbs at that. Most budget chains would at least have some sort of yogurt option which would help. Again, an included breakfast is a nice option that you won't find at many places in the city center but it's otherwise just average, not especially noteworthy.

The hotel is excellent value for money. The room was excellent and was very clean and well equipped. It is lovely to have a small kitchen with a microwave, refrigerator and sink. To have breakfast included was a bonus and he shower and bath were very efficient with hot water available quickly. The hotel has preserved the original features from its founding in 1929 to maintain a charm and warmth lacking in many modern hotels. Staff at reception are very friendly, efficient and knowledgeable, creating a lovely relaxed atmosphere in the hotel. Though it was lovely to have breakfast included, over 11 nights the breakfast choices became a bit monotonous. A wider choice of fruit and variety of cereals would be good.

The staff was exceptional! Always friendly, welcoming, and accommodating no matter what time of day. Interesting spaces to lounge. Has sort of a European feel. Clean. Airy rooms. Great price for its central location! Breakfast was basic continental…nothing fancy at all. If you like protein for breakfast they offer hardboiled eggs. The website does state continental breakfast but I still hoped for eggs and bacon.

What I loved most was that this hotel is not a typical modern hotel. It has a unique, old-fashioned charm. I especially enjoyed the old-style elevator, which I had only seen in movies before. I also loved the sunlight and the fresh San Francisco breeze coming through the beautiful window. Staying here made me feel like I was experiencing a piece of San Francisco’s history in the middle of the city. The front desk staff, housekeeping team, and all the workers were very kind, diligent, and welcoming. I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone. I truly enjoyed my stay and would love to come back again. I took many pictures of the hotel and plan to share them with my friends and family. Thank you so much for a wonderful stay.

Comfortable beds, quiet especially considering the location. Easy walking distance to Union Square, the Masonic and public transport. It’s a retro vibe, so if you like everything modern and shiny you won’t be happy here. Small kitchenette with microwave and fridge. Great for making a snack. Real plates and silverware. Old style elevator, worked great. Breakfast is your typical waffle maker, cereal, toast fruit. Was able to leave our luggage while we enjoyed our last day in town.

A good sized room in an old SF hotel. Floors creak, to be expected. Only reason not a 5 overall it was a bit noisy, not their fault, it was traffic noise. I'd stay again but ask for a room away from the street.

Beautiful style of the rooms and the hotel in general. I expected more variety for breakfast.
- 5/5
The property was located right in the middle of everything! We could walk to Union Square, China Town, and there’s so many restaurants, bars, and little stores around. A few years ago they answered a question about parking stating they had limited free parking but don’t have parking anymore. It wasn’t too difficult finding a spot but make sure you read all the signs and park correctly.

Although this is only rated a 2-star hotel, the room and staff were well above that. Very helpful staff. The building is a 1929 building, but very well maintained and clean, though the fixtures and furnishings are a bit of a throwback to the 1980s. Well worth the money. Again, the staff--the place seemed to be family-run--were exceptionally helpful. The only criticism I have is the continental breakfast which was a bit bleak.

My husband and I enjoyed our stay while in San Francisco for a night. The building was well maintained, the staff was friendly, the room was quiet, and the bed was very comfortable. Our only minor complaint would be breakfast at 7:30 seemed a little late (though it was a Sunday morning) and there was no coffee in the room. Otherwise, everything was great and I would highly recommend!
- 5/5
The shutters and windows open so I just loved mornings and evenings sitting at the table the overlooking SF and enjoying the breeze. The ceiling fan was a nice surprise, the walk-in closet was huge for a hotel! It was nice to hide our suitcases away and keep the room tidy. The beds were a bit old, but I slept fine. Nothing to complain about, just a heads up. The bedding was quirky and reminded me of my childhood (in a good way!). Downstairs was a beautiful space - older, but like I said, full of charm. I’m so grateful I chose this hotel for our weekend trip.

This hotel has a lot of character! It's old fashioned but very well-maintained, and we loved the charm. Clean and comfy, and the staff were wonderful!

Our room was clean and spacious. There was a big walk-in closet where we could keep our suitcases. The breakfast was good and got us on our way.

Ver nice staff. Large room. Historic building. Room was a little musty.
- 0.5/5
Guests were way too loud until 5am. Beds were not comfortable at all. The worker couldn’t find out reservation.
- 4/5
It was near the center of action, a short walk to Chinatown, North Beach and Russian Hill. The room was comfortable and retains its charm of an old hotel. The breakfast was included, and guests could make fresh waffles for breakfast. I originally read reviews about the ownership being a family who had run it for decades. When I arrived, it was a new family that didn’t do much in terms of try to make us feel welcomed. We could have just did a self-check in. If you're going to be impersonal, you might as well paint the walls white and modernize the place.
- 5/5
Very cute hotel. It is old but well kept. Didn’t try the breakfast.
- 4/5
Older hotel however every thing was very nice.Staff. Was excited 😆. Breakfast was limited but still sufficient.Rooms we're clean.I felt safe here.

The hotel is a classy and clean. Only few food choices
- 5/5
Perfect location, great staff, delicious breakfast, huge room with a fridge and microwave! As stated by others, there is a lack of electrical outlets. I made it work though. Dish soap and dish towels in the kitchenette would be nice, but again I made it work.

Second stay here, but this time the room felt quite worn. Some furniture and textiles need replacing — the armchair was all cracked and the comforter had a hole. The windows were also very dirty.
- 5/5
It was a clean room, the staff was great, breakfast was good.
- 4/5
It was what we expected : ) Location was great (used to live next door at 999 Bush), enjoyed the painted details, left too early for breakfast, staff were helpful & friendly, parking as it is in SF. Overall a fine stay :)
- 5/5
Rooms were bigger than expected. An older hotel, but well maintained.
- 5/5

- bad room . noisy. would not recommend this hotel to anyone ever.
- 2/5
We were very tired when we arrived, they had our room ready but they asked for extra money for just 2 hours earlier checking. Breakfast is even under basic.
- 5/5
Alway a great place to stay
- 3/5
Helpful and nice front desk. Windows not double-paned, so you hear street and alley noise regardless of where you are in the building. Thin walls, so you hear your neighbors and anybody above you. Breakfast options--hard boiled eggs, bananas, apples, waffles, oatmeal, cereal, and some store-bought bread options.
- 4/5
If you plan to stay for a few days (2–3 days), I think it’s a very good option for a three-star hotel and offers good value for the price.
- 5/5
This was perfect; the family room allowed for each child to have their own bed and still plenty room for us. This historic old hotel has been well cared for! The windows open easily and with ceiling fan, the room was quite comfortable. Breakfast of self serve waffles, freshly boiled eggs, coffee, juice, and dry cereals set us off well for the day. The grocery next door is fabulous! Their deli has wonderful wraps and sandwiches, fresh fruits, and good items for evening. Thanks to real dishes plus small refrigerator and microwave in our room, our odd eating needs were well met. Even on our 6th floor room, hot water was readily available in a nice shower/tub. With cable cars only a few blocks away, and Union Sq. and Chinatown close, the location was great.
- 4/5
Very nice, very clean hotel. This hotel was very old. We really liked the hotel itself. Breakfast was pretty good. Minimal, but you can't complain with everything that was offered. The staff was very nice and attentive. The only bad drawback about this hotel was lack of air conditioning. While A/C itself was not needed due to the outdoor temperatures, it was needed for fresh air. Once you open the windows for said fresh air, you immediately see the need for the A/C. The noises from the street made it impossible for a good nights sleep. Horns, sirens, and drug addicts screaming at all hours of the night. So, your choices are a stuffy room or all the noise. For this reason, and this reason only, I would not book this hotel again.
- 4/5
Clean room, centrally located
- 3/5
Ok ,,, basic breakfast...very noisy street. Helpful friendly staff. Fridge in room. Biggest problem was noise from street. Not just traffic but " unsocial behaviour noise. Rooms are nice.
- 5/5
The elevator was very old and hard to manage with hands full of luggage
- 5/5
What a huge hotel room, very spacious and very clean. Friendly staff. The continental breakfast was very good. I would recommend.
- 4/5
Room was clean and nice. Staff was friendly and helpful.
- 4/5
Handpainted murals in room and louvered blinds were nice. Tiny kitchenette in room 606 with no way to wash dishes except using a washcloth. Breakfast had boiled eggs and waffles & fruit, but very little protein. No activities, obviously. Beautiful lobby. A few restaurants left coupons in the lobby. Grocery markets nearby. Gold Bar distillery on Treasure Island was great fun. front desk lady was helpful for storing my luggag, providing ice on a heat wave week and maintaining the lobby plants. Crowded for St Patricks Day parade. Bus passed us by after waiting double the normal time for a bus. I prefer North Beach now that Le Colonial closed.
- 3/5
Pipe noise, very few power outlets, did not enjoy breakfast ate across the street.
- 4/5
Breskfast was ok. Not bad at all. Theres no air conditioner only ceiling fan. Very cool and creepy old old old school elevator. Staff was very helpful. Small grocery store and deli right next door. Nice bars within walking distance
- 4/5
It was a comfortable hotel, but definitely an older property. There was an odd smell in the room we were in, but otherwise it was a cared for property?
- 3/5
Breakfast was minimal, crowded. Room was clean. Not everything worked. Poor lighting in bathroom. FYI - not air conditioning. Not set up for charging devices.
- 5/5
This hotel is about expectations. Don't expect a 5* corporate hotel. This hotel feels like you are staying in someone's clean but dated home. It is an older building with lots of charm (the elevators are very fun) but is well maintained. The new owners took over from a family who has passed the hotel on through generations since it opened in 1929. The new owners have made some updates (ie faster Wifi). My one complaint is the walls are very thin. Although my neighbours weren't too loud, my room was by the elevators and I could hear when they were running. Overall, it wasn't too disruptive. The breakfast is basic but it's enough to get you going. Given the price and market (a tourist hotel) I was very happy with my stay and would stay here again.
- 5/5

Vintage. Exactly as described. Even has the old school elevator that you have to close the caged door before it goes up. Continental breakfast was basic. I bought vanilla creamer from the market next door for coffee. If you drive anything bigger then a Honda civic, you’ll have to park off site and pay around $50/night

This hotel looked like a very old hotel, the rooms were old, our beds were firm, but it worked for exactly what we needed it for. The elevator was an old fashion, small, close the gate type elevator, but it worked great. Pretty neat. Staff was great. Everyone enjoyed waffles for breakfast.

Older hotel but totally clean and well-maintained. The staff was friendly and helpful. Breakfast was waffles, hard-boiled eggs, cereal, fruit, etc. The noise from other rooms (especially upstairs) was a little more than I prefer, but overall, it was a very comfortable place to stay. The place is fine if all you want is a place to sleep and get ready. I heard everything going on outside from inside my room but it did not bother me because SF is a vibrant city so I expected it. The breakfast is nothing special but it’s free and there were a few choices of things to eat. The location is great! The staff are very friendly and helpful! They make the place pleasant.

Staff was wonderful, very helpful. Hot breakfast was very good. Rooms were very clean and updated. Loved the stenciling of the mayflower everywhere. Loved the charm of the front desk, the old time elevator and the rooms Stairs in front and in back got you to lobby quickly too. Store next door and plenty of restaurants around the area.

Great value hotel, especially with the included continental breakfast. It's old and has a bit of a musty odor, but I could live with that considering the price. There's no parking, but was able to get a good price in a parking garage two blocks away via Spothero. We were a family of four and were in a room with a queen bed and a twin trundle bed. I would recommend maxing out with 3 people per room as the trundle bed when pulled out created a very tight space (basically had to do parkour to get from the bed to the bathroom to not step on my son). Definitely a great option for someone traveling on a budget, looking to stay in Union Square

Interesting historic hotel in a great location. It just so badly needs a renovation. The room smelled musty, the sheets felt rough, the bed was super uncomfortable, and the paintings on the walls just seemed dated. The breakfast wasn't wonderful but we appreciated that there was food downstairs -- especially since San Fran is so expensive!

I really enjoyed everything about it, its Very old fashioned and nice! The room was nice and spotless. I was on the 5th floor, the view was good in my room. The bed was nice and comfy. Bathroom was clean. Customer service was nice and professional. NOW the reason i wont give it 5 stars is the parking situation... that's probably THE ONLY issue... the parking garage they "offer" is small and narrow for most vehicles to fit through so i had to park around the corner and pay 70$ overnight fee for a parking garage. Now given it was Santa Bar night (Dec 13th) so that probably drove the cost waaaay up for the garage but still... the hotel should team up with a parking garage nearby to get some sort of discount for the people staying there at the Mayflower... Parking is a Nightmare but other than that... Its a REALLY cool hotel😁

If you are expecting all luxury hotel amenities at the value rates that this place charges, don't book. If you want a clean, quiet, well located hotel for an great rate in SF, this is your place. My standard queen room had a fridge and microwave, and some basic dishes and utensils. No in room coffee. They have coffee and a basic continental breakfast dining room off the lobby. The store nextdoor has everything you could need. Oh, and had a walk in closet. Don't see that....ever.

Very good value for the price, a nice 100 year old hotel in good shape, large room, comfortable bed, in a good section of Nob Hill area. TV didn't work, and continental breakfast was average, but I didn't need those things. I will definitely stay at the Mayflower again.

Room was very spacious and clean. Best benefit was free car parking for economy car. Staff were very friendly and responsive. Great central location.

We chose the Mayflower because of its proximity to the Masonic Auditorium, where we were going to a concert. It’s only a block and a half away, although seemingly 1,000 feet in elevation. While the Mayflower is a very old property, the bed was comfortable, the room was clean and the staff was very nice. The breakfast was what one expects from a free hotel breakfast. It was “fine”. Free parking is also a big plus IF you can get your vehicle into and out of the tightest tunnel I have ever experienced. I have a Mazda 6 and it barely fit, and I mean barely. But they are very upfront about it so just know that if you have anything larger than a Mazda 6, forget about it. One other issue I’ll mention are the electronic keys. We had multiple issues with them, but again the staff responded quickly and made it work. Overall this was an incredible find and if there’s another concert at the Masonic that we want to enjoy, we would stay there again in a minute. With the caveats mentioned above, I give the Mayflower a very positive recommendation.

Beautiful, amazing, and very comfy. We enjoyed the breakfast alot! And staff were very helpful and kind overall best experience of my trip so far. Other hotel on the way to san francisco were so rude and not hospitable. This hotel was super refreshing!
- 5/5
It was a great hotel. Excellent experience
- 5/5
This was a very nice place to stay - clean room, friendly staff, and a good breakfast was included with the room. I will definietely stay here again.
- 5/5
place had a lot of charm, character, and history. staff tried hwrd and seemed to really care. We'd definitely return.
- 5/5
Near Union Square, central and easy to walk, transit or taxi. Hotel is charming and old fashioned, love the gated elevators, hand paintings on the walls and the window shutters. Staff are polite, helpful and friendly. My room was spacious and had microwave, small refrigerator, and hair dryer. There are lots of restaurants and markets nearby. Breakfast includes make your own waffles, several breads, hot and cold cereal, boiled eggs, fruit, juice, tea and coffee. I will definitely stay here again.
- 2/5
staff is nice, but the accommodations are horrible. The hotel has a terrible smell and is unbelievably outdated! No coffee machine in the rooms or air-conditioning. The heater is a unit built into the wall. I would highly recommend not staying.
- 5/5
I was at the front of the building and noticed from the reviews it could be noisy. I brought ear plugs and slept so well on the comfiest mattress in the world.
- 5/5
Very cool Victorian hotel, clean and had everything we needed
- 1/5
Disgusting Dirty Stinky Bedbugs Rude Poor internet Overall a scary nightmare experience I do not wish to my worst enemies.
- 5/5
This is an historic building that is conveniently located with affordable rooms, cozy beds and includes a breakfast buffet. The staff were thoughtful and efficient, while also helping us get acclimated to SF. Thanks for the hospitality!
- 4/5
Old hotel with a lot of character in a safe neighborhood. Free breakfast is a plus. Large room, good storage space. Kitchenette is a plus but very few plug points in the room.
- 5/5
Is in the center of the city, very clean Hotel, the personnel very polite and friendly. Rooms very clean provide a Microwave, and a small refrigerator, did not used but was there, shopping area a couple of blocks down, a little market next door to buy water and something to eat if you got late to the hotel because you were in a Tour, Easy to find the Hotel. Excellent place.
- 4/5
Place has lots of character. Tiny rooms but, it's SF. Good location and price.
- 5/5
Good price to stay
- 4/5
The only issues were that I heard sirens two or three times per night. Also, the hotel is old, and the rooms have not been updated. That didn’t bother me, because I had everything I needed. And for the price it was unbeatable!
- 4/5
Nice budget hotel. Clean but not fancy. I had stayed before many years ago. Basic breakfast that does not change. Great location a few blocks from Union Square with lots of local restaurants. I had a problem with the wifi which started out fine but declined suddenly in speed. They were never able to restore it. I had to use my phone as a hotspot. Other than that, no complaints. I would recommend.

- 5/5
Spacious rooms, with a touch of heritage. Lots of sunshine.
- 5/5
Great!
- 4/5
The hotel is old, but it’s charming. The rooms are huge and clean. And perfectly fine. But it’s the staff that really makes this place shine shine! Are they friendly, professional, and extremely helpful.
- 5/5
There were shops nearby maybe consider adding protein in addition to eggs, and maybe pastries
- 3/5
The owners and staff were helpful and courteous. However, after unloading, we had to park our car almost 3 blocks away since there was no vacant spot on the street. No coffee maker in the room, only one person could fit in bathroom at a time and commode was so low we needed to take hold of the sink to get up. The beds were comfy & complimentary breakfast was a plus but we would not recommend this hotel unless many improvements are completed.
- 5/5
The first impression was the 1920 elevator with grates that had to be closed, It was classic an faster than most modern elevators. The lobby was also a pleasant change from the homogenized ones of major chains. No there isn't a pool or a gym, but this hotel has history and charm. The room was clean and the bed comfortable. The windows opened for fresh air. One review mentioned it being noisy. We found it to be quite the opposite. The street was quiet except for the garbage collectors one morning, but this is a city and it should have city noises. I highly recommend this hotel.

- 4/5
The room was very clean and it was a comfortable bed.
- 4/5
The staff here was very friendly and helpful. This is an older hotel and it shows some appropriate wear and tear. However, it was a friendly place and we felt warm and welcome.
- 4/5
Room was very clean and surprised with the amount of amenities (microwave, mini fridge, kitchen sink, basic dishes.) Great location and value for the money. Very happy with this hotel! The breakfast was standard continental, with the typical waffle maker.
- 5/5
It was just really cool the hotel had a home vibe which I loved
- 4/5
Walking up the hills was difficult. We really liked the hotel
- 5/5
We were just at the Mayflower for 3 nights. What a great hotel! Loved our room....large with great decor. The hotel is in a great, convenient area. Good food options nearby. Staff were lovely and helpful!!
- 5/5
Friendly and helpful staff. Nothing fancy but clean and comfortable room with a very comfortable bed. The breakfast was o.k. with just a few simple choices. Close to everything and it’s in a pretty safe area considering you’re in a big city. Good value overall.
- 4/5
This is a cute hotel in a central location. It is with in walking distance from China town, cable carts and Bart station. It is very clean, rooms come with a small kitchenette, with microwave and mini fridge. They even have some dishes in the room. It is an older building ( but that is pretty much every building in SF), I thought it was very cute and well kept. Most hotels do not have AC, so this one didn't had one, but had a ceiling fan and you can open the windows. The double room has full size beds not queen, that worked fo us. Bathroom was super clean, bring your own toiletries for sure. They do provide continental breakfast, very basic selection boiled eggs, waffles, cereal, coffee, we thought it was good enough. The highlight was the make your own waffle station. There is a minimart store right next door to the hotel, super convinient and restaurants all around. If you are looking for a place to stay for a couple of days within a reasonable price and not looking for luxury, this is your place. The area is average to good, we never felt unsafe walking anywere. Overall we enjoyed our stay and we would definitely stay here again.
- 4/5
Good property but needs a few upgrades like air conditioning in rooms and also charging points.
- 4/5
Property location was good and the staff was attentive. Sheet and towel quality would have made for a better experience.

Great breakfast included in room rate. Staff was very friendly and accommodating. Would definitely stay again.
- 4/5
You get what you pay for. Staff very friendly. Hotel is fairly good location but very old and rundown and the room smelled pretty bad. The continental breakfast is basic. Overall, value is ok but wasn’t the most fancy of stays!
- 5/5
El desayuno incluido, es bueno y a la hora exacta.

Clean room | Staff | Breakfast | Location
- 4/5
Classic older hotel with friendly staff. Sweet sepia-like hand drawings of old famous city views on all doors and walls. No air conditioning but screens on some windows (so loud city sounds all night long.) Elevator has a manual gate, which was a fun retro experience. The walk-in closet is massive enough for two suitcases open on stands and still room for two people to use it as a dressing room. Room is large even with the king-sized bed but the bed is very stiff. Breakfast was provided but was somewhat limited (hard boiled eggs, toast, fresh waffle maker, apples). Best to consider parking is tough—they said it could accommodate a very small sedan only, so we ended up having to use a public lot two blocks away ($45/day, add $10 for in and out and only open 7am to midnight). Street parking is metered and restricted to 2 or 3 hours on Monday to Saturday. A couple of good neighborhood coffee shops and restaurants in the surrounding blocks.
- 4/5
Very good attention from the staff, clean and tidy room, very convenient location
- 5/5
Good
- 3/5
1. No AC in entire building and all the rooms. They say bc San Fran isn't that hot, well it got hot as hell and stuffy in those rooms and you're forced to open windows, which in turn leads to very noisy loud nights. 2. Couldn't bring any food from the included breakfast to your room. It's a hotel. The purpose of one is for service and have a nice relaxing stay you spend money for. It was clear this rule was bc they don't want to clean. Which also leads to.. 3. They don't offer daily cleaning
- 5/5
Breakfast was a nice break on the wallet. Room was beautiful and decent size. Elevator was an experience in itself. Would love to stay here again.
- 3/5
Little to no interaction of staff. Property on cusp of rundown.
- 5/5
VERY nice staff, good breakfast!
- 5/5
Clean facility, good location, staff is helpful
- 2/5
Then yes some stomper above me and some selfish person yapping on cell at 4 am til 545 am this am! I called down and the guy said nothing he could do. Terrible non help. I kept calm instead and chose that route. Just can't recommend here of course. I'm a quiet respectful guest and one of the good ones to have stay at their please and this should be considred more. All guests should be reminded to be quiet and respectful of others during their stay as other ppl to factor too. Not just them self. Was hard to find peace here.
- 5/5
Everything was great!
- 5/5
Due to fires in another part of California, we needed to add an extra night to our stay at the Mayflower. We were treated so nicely and were actually upgraded to a room that we thoroughly enjoyed for all the nights.
- 5/5
This hotel was originally opened in 1929. It has been updated perfectly while keeping the nostalgia from bygone days. It was a nice surprise. Very clean. Very hospitable. Nice breakfast.
- 5/5
It is a charming place
- 5/5
I stayed at the Mayflower during a conference because SF was sold out. I travel a lot for business and stay at marriotts. The online reviews prepared me well - this is an old building with a single person at the desk, old elevator, and very basic amenities. If you are good with that (and I love old buildings and don’t rely on hotels toiletries) then this is a comfortable stay - and I’m glad I took the chance to be near Moscone. Everything was exactly as described - and the person at the front desk was very helpful. I would absolutely stay here again.
- 5/5
Our stay was delightful! The staff was friendly and helpful, especially the young woman (I wish we got her name! She really was the best!!!). The continental breakfast was really good with several offerings, which made a huge difference for our stay. The room was great, with a nice kitchenette and a huge walk-in closet. The location was also close to many attractions, restaurants, bars, etc. This historic hotel was a one-of-a-kind experience and we loved it!
- 4/5
An older hotel in a convenient location. Friendly, helpful staff.
- 5/5
Staff was friendly and helpful. Hotel is beautiful and clean. It is an old building, but feels well kept and comfortable. The elevator is old and small, but works well and is an interesting feature. The room was well appointed and clean, with a sepia mural on one wall. The mattress was a little hard, but still quite comfortable. The bathroom layout was a bit less than ideal, as the toilet was right next to the door and the toilet paper roll was far enough away that one had to stretch a bit to reach it. There was a hairdryer in the room. This is probably just a consequence of the building being old and the owners probably can’t do much about it without a complete renovation of the room. The furniture was nice and fit the tone, there was a medium size tv with cable and Netflix. A small fridge and microwave, as well as a few dishes made up the “kitchen” portion. The closet was large enough to be a changing room. The breakfast consisted of waffles, cereal, coffee, boiled eggs, toast, etc. The only thing I would say would be a good addition is maybe some bacon, sausage, etc. Certainly more than adequate. I can’t stress enough that this was an incredible bargain and the staff is doing a fantastic job. Would definitely stay here again.
- 5/5
Clean breakfast location
- 5/5
Mayflower is the best for the price range
- 5/5
Such a special hotel right in the heart of Nob Hill! Clean, comfortable, great value. Wonderful service and excellent rooms. Very relaxed and friendly vibes. Make sure you check out the market too!!!
- 5/5
Beautiful Property!
- 5/5
Staff are fantastic here, friendly and helpful. The room was adorable and VERY clean. Comfortable bed, free continental breakfast. Love that they preserved the antique elevator, and the themes for the rooms. Kitchenette had pretty dishware to use and a mini fridge, microwave. Definitely intend to be back next time.
- 5/5
Comfort. Good location , very friendly staff and clean room
- 3/5
Very basic
- 5/5
Nice spacious room, more like a suite than a basic room Room has everything you need. Staff really helpful, friendly and informative. Good location as easy to get buses and trams close by. Lots of places around to eat and drink. Hotel very clean and breakfast nice.
- 4/5
This is a beautiful historical hotel. The breakfast was good. The room was clean and mostly quiet. It has an elevator which is helpful. It’s important to know the hotel is a few blocks from the ‘tenderloin’ district which is not a good area but at least when I asked the front desk staff what the neighborhood was like he was honest and told me to stay away from that area. The parking is in a garage below the building. The entrance is narrow and difficult to navigate with a car. We accidentally scraped our car on the front passenger side. The next time we exited we asked for someone to direct us. We were able to get out just fine then. There was no street parking available so we had to continue to use the garage and wish someone had directed us in the garage the first time to avoid damaging our car.
- 5/5
The staff was courteous and the facilities and room were clean and well kept. Staff was helpful providing suggestion on local sites to see, assist with MUNI transportation, and places to eat. I love boutique hotels like the Mayflower and would stay again and have recommended it to friends for future stays.
- 5/5
Bathroom appeared remodeled yesterday! Very clean, comfortable bed. Bit of annoying street noise late at night. Excellent value.
- 4/5
This hotel was built in 1920s and it was lovely. The history can be felt throughout this building from beautiful ceiling and historic safe in the entrance hall to 1920s style elevators. I found the hotel quiet in general. That said, those who are light sleepers, like myself, ask for a room in the back of the building not facing the alley/street or next to elevators. My first room was 606 not facing the street but facing the alley but every morning about 5am street noise woke me up and I could occasionally hear the elevator at night. The wonderful and polite gentlemen at the front desk found a perfectly quiet room at the back of the building. Any room ending with 19 to 16 (619, 618...) is located away from street. There was no A/C in the rooms but there were fans and all my windows opened. Some rooms seemed to be more renovated than others. Liked that there was a microwave and the fridge. The rooms and bathrooms were quite clean with the exception of behind the bed that needed some dusting. Bed was comfortable. Some reviews did mention some unpleasant smell, and yes some of it was present, however, I think this is due to the old cosntruction. I smelled the same thing thoughout the city as passed old buildings etc. I didn't find this to be a problem for me. The breakfast is minimal and basic but I appreciated the hard-boiled eggs and bread. Dispite some reviews, it was well stocked and seemed enough for everyone. I would stay at this hotel again.
- 4/5
Very nice hotel for families
- 5/5
Very antique vibe!
- 3/5
The hotel left the deepest impression on me was its old elevator. The rooms were small and the sound insulation was poor. Especially, there was no parking space available (the public parking lot costs $60 per night), which made me, a first-time visitor to San Francisco, completely unable to adapt.
- 5/5
Awesome hotel for price. Free breakfast is a plus. Location is exceptional. Walking distance to Chinatown, Union Square, the piers. They should think about cleaning the windows. Kind of gross! But we will be back.
- 5/5
The maid service was excellent, thank you! The hotel is absolutely charming, we enjoyed our living space for a family of 4!
- 5/5
I absolutely loved this hotel and would come back when visiting San Francisco. Only con would be the parking which is only suitable for compact cars as the garage door is only 70 inches wide. If you don’t have a small car you need to find a parking outside which needs to be moved every 2 hours or pay to park inside a garage overnight which wasn’t bad. The garage was only 1 block down. But overall, amazing experience.
- 5/5
It is very unique and interesting. We love it.
- 5/5
Very friendly staff - seemed genuinely invested in their guests having a pleasant stay. The breakfast was fun. Very international crowd, generous with food.
- 5/5
Fun elevator, lots of closet space and great location for all the things we wanted to do! The market next store was great for drinks and late night snack. Breakfast options could have been better.
- 5/5
We had a great stay. We were in town for a concert. They accommodated us with luggage storage and early checkin. The room was great with old SF charm. We had a wonderful stay!
- 4/5
I liked most things. Parking garage sucked.
- 4/5
It was a good experience.
- 5/5
Loved The Mayflower Hotel. They kept the charm of the original hotel while providing comfortable rooms - spacious and clean. Staff was very personable. If ever in SF again, this is where I’m going.

Great stay; nice staff
- 5/5
The front desk was very friendly and he made our check-in process effortless. As we were checking out, the staff was very helpful to store our luggages until we left for the airport later in the day and we were able to enjoy the city without having to worry where to find a new place to store our stuff. Awesome staff!!

The hotel location is perfect, proximity to most of the attractions and places that we wanted to visit. The hotel is antique, the room, the breakfast is adequate. The service is great, and they are very helpful when we asked about transportation and showed us on how to safe money to buy them online. We really enjoyed our time and for sure we are going to stay there again in our next trip to San Francisco.

While the neighborhood was a little questionable, the facility was lovely. It is very quaint but well maintained. Staff were awesome. Would definitely return at a later date!

The staff was superb. I have never felt such personalized and caring attention from any hotel as I did at the Mayflower.

Very good

Affordable in a good location, but older although the room was fine. Parking was a bit problematic as they have parking down a ramp but it is extremely tight to which I scraped my car a little bit. Breakfast was fine and staff were terrifice.

Great location, comfortable beds, spacious room, free parking (as long as your car fits) friendly and courteous staff, free breakfast, beautiful and historic hotel- all for a very reasonable price! This may be my new go-to for lodging in SF! Thank you Mayflower.

10/10 Recommend - AMAZING STAFF, HISTORIC FEEL, WALKABLE - the breakfast was amazing and they made sure to refill anything that went empty immediately! The little market next door was a life saver too. Came for the 100 year old elevator which is a whole experience and will come back again just for the service. Special shout out to Michael and Jason!

It’s so old but really nice. The elevator was an experience in and of itself!
