Reviews
The Marina Motel is a charming, historic property with a beautiful courtyard and convenient location. Guests appreciate the friendly staff, clean rooms, and free parking. However, some guests find the rooms small and outdated, and the parking situation can be challenging due to limited space and tight garages.
- Charming and historic property with beautiful courtyard
- Convenient location with easy access to local attractions and amenities
- Rooms are small and outdated
- Parking is limited and tight, with first-come, first-served policy

The motel is quaint and cute; however, there was no laundry, no continental breakfast, and the parking is super inconvenient. The garages are tiny and if you get a room on the street side, you have to unload and try to safely get your car into the garage with traffic going by. There are no screens on the windows. There is also no AC. It's a cute, little place, but there are so many more convenient options (with parking lots) close by.

Excellent location - close from Fisherman’s wharf and Marina district, Golden Gate Bridge, and other downtown tourist sites. Staff is super friendly and helpful. And the garden and flowers give it a unique picturesque look. Parking was ample and safe. Room was a bit cramped for a family of four.

Beautiful, cozy property. It was built in the late 1930’s and has such a beautiful garden. The rooms were comfortable, the bathrooms were updated and with the windows open, the breeze from bay kept the room temperature very comfortable. Loved the property I loved the garden/courtyard! It is so beautifully kept. I also very much appreciated that we had a garage for our vehicle. Extra piece of mind knowing our vehicle wasn’t parked on an off site garage or street. The staff was also great! We look forward to making this location our go to for our next stay in the city.

Good location. Close to presidio and lots of great restaurants and bars. Good neighborhood It was very small and things were not working properly in the apartment. It was very small and had issues with bathroom

A little oasis in one of the better areas among the bustling streets of San Francsico Was good to be able to park off the street. Easy walk to the water front, and onto Fishermans wharf. The courtyard room was quiet and comfortable, the bed absolutely fine. Clean toilet and shower - and with a window! The star of the show was Brendan - so helpful, so much information! What a character! The room was quite small and decor dated but that didn't bother us in the slightest. The parking was tight, but perfectly manageable with an mid-size SUV.

Location was easy walk to palace of fine arts and beach. Cute interior to property with nice flowers. Staff was friendly. Had a small kitchen that worked for breakfast. Rooms are very dated and could use some updating for sure. Our room was overlooking a busy street which made it noisy. Room comes with a garage which is great but too small to fit our car so we couldn’t use it. They did tell us we could park further back in property where people drive to their rooms as long as we kept our car close to wall so other guest could drive through so we did get to park for free.
- 5/5
Driving into this motel felt like you were driving into another country, reminded me of Italy, so beautiful. You are within walking distance of many restaurants and shopping, the Palace of Fine Arts, a little more of a walk to the Golden Gate Bridge but, still walkable. The rooms are quaint and comfortable. I was traveling with my teen granddaughter, we never felt unsafe either in the motel or walking in the neighborhood. Would stay again.

The location of Marina Motel was close to my daughter & they have onsite parking for each room. The room was adorable, we had a garden room. The hotel staff were all extremely nice and helpful. The motorcycle! The only thing was someone that was staying there had a loud motorcycle and left the motel at midnight and reved(sp?) as he was leaving. It echoed and vibrated through the motel. It was rude of him and nothing against the motel.

A very cozy place to stay where you'll feel right at home. The location is perfect. Chestnut Street, with its cafés, restaurants, and movie theaters, is right next door, and buses stop right outside the front door. It's a lovely walk along the waterfront to the Golden Gate Bridge. The staff was very friendly. Highly recommended for a trip to San Francisco.

The hotel was unique and quaint. The staff were kind and helpful. We liked the enclosed garage for our motorcycles. It was close to restaurants and laundry. We would stay there again in the future if ever we are in San Fran.

Convenient location for the trip. Morning staff was excellent. Room amenities were adequate. Price a little high for the quality of the room. My room was street side, adjacent to US 101 and was very noisy all night long. Other family members were in courtyard rooms that were much quieter for the same price.

We usually stay downtown when we visit SF in large 3.5-4 star hotels so I wasn't sure if I'd feel safe here with just me and my young son, but we were going to an event at the Palace of Fine Arts and it was walking distance so took a chance. Adorable place, felt like I was living in a mini city apartment in a great neighborhood for the weekend. The kitchenette was more than I expected, was actually a full little kitchen with a little corner table. A door separated it from the sleeping area so could get up early and have coffee in a sunny kitchen. The "bedroom" barely fit the 2 full beds in it but it was comfortable. Everything was clean. Convenient shopping and restaurants a block up. Be aware you need to go up a full flight of stairs to get to any room. Wasn't an issue for us but it wasn't really clear when we booked it so could surprise someone that needed more accessible access. Staff is super nice, although don't expect them to be super in the know about the area/SF-I mentioned Bay to Breakers and the girl at the front had no idea what I was talking about lol. Marina is a great neighborhood to explore though. Perfect place if you're looking for a local SF vibe.

We were just thrilled with this little jewel. Can’t believe we’ve stayed in so many other hotels in the past - this will be our new go-to. Parking was a breeze in our own little bay underneath our room. The courtyard was just gorgeous - so many blooming plants and flowers! Our room was great, it had a fully stocked kitchen, which made breakfast a breeze. And the staff - I can’t say enough about them. Everyone was friendly and clearly loved the property and making sure everyone’s stay was top notch. I’m already planning our next stay!

I extended my stay at the exceptional, welcoming Marina Motel. Family-owned for generations is obvious in every kind interaction with longterm staff and meticulous details throughout the artistic setting. Comfortable, quiet, light-filled interior room. Best location to wander the Marina’s restaurants, shops and monuments. Highly recommend.
- 5/5
It was a beautiful hotel with a friendly staff. It reminded us of our hotel in Venice, Italy. There was no kitchen, but in easy walking dustance to many restaurants.

I have nothing but great things to say about this place… The only negative was the bed in pillows The artistry, the flowers, the uniqueness, the location, the staff… All top rate
- 1.5/5
Quaint place. Good location. Insufficient linen and a request for another towel was denied. Insufficient kitchen equipment- one of the rooms had only 1 dinner plate and 1 side plate! We had a large vehicle and struggled to fit it in the garage. The property is not suitable for large vehicles. We booked for 4 adults and 3 children - the 2 rooms were not big enough for this number of people. We had no option to pay an additional $100 for a trundle bed.

Staff were very welcoming and helpful. The history of this motel, the plants, and the abundant balcony-style flowers give it a uniquely homey feeling, making this a most memorable stay. Roofed garages below each rooms are a hugh bonus for added peace of mind.

Beautiful oasis. 1950’s meets Italy. Ideally located next to the Presidio and lots of restaurants It is in a bit of a rough area and can be loud at night. First impression from Lombard street is wondering if it will be a dive, despite the beautiful painting. Drive into the courtyard and you are in another world.

The parking is challenging with small garages coming off the busy street of taking a street side room. Otherwise, walkable location and a dispensary right down the street!

2) TV reception horrible, picture unwatchable. TV old and on cable, all analog. 3) No sheers on windows. By opening drapes to let in light there is no privacy as many units face each other. Made the room dark, but we kept drapes closed. 4) Fewer garages than units, we were fortunate to have use of a garage, otherwise we would have had to park on a neighborhood street. Security and convenience of the garage was a big deal. 5) Has to be the noisest toilet when flushed. Also, would prefer to have a small shelf around the bathroom sink. 6) Charming courtyard with driveway pavers, beautiful flowers and exterior building design. 7) Dated but very nice clean, comfortable rooms/units 8) Excellent location. 9) Overall, a good place to stay. Hopefully their changing room without notification is not their usual way of doing business.

The man at the front desk with long hair was the nicest guy he was friendly and had a sense of humor which I love. Convenient location, nice and quiet, beautiful flowers, helpful to have a kitchen with children with jet lag! If being picky- the oven was a little old and stiff (but worked fine!) and parking was a little tight for a large car- but we managed it!
- 3/5
The staff were great, very helpful and kind. The property is fine if you just need a place to sleep at night and plan to be out during the day. I had a room with two double beds, but it was quite small, and it felt crowded with multiple people. The mattresses were not very comfortable. Overall, though, it was worth the price and the location and free parking included.

What a beautiful little garden gem near the Palace of Fine Arts! Older motel that has been cleaned and upgraded without losing the vintage charm. Staff was very warm, welcoming and fun! Small room in a garage apartment setting that was simply charming and delightful. The gardens were beautiful and lush and well cared for. Parking is rough for larger modern cars and was a challenge to get in and out of but come on, it was parking in San Francisco! Convenient and close to coffee houses, restaurants, and grocery stores. Great value for the dollars spent! Would come back here in a heartbeat!

The bed was not very comfortable, and I think it was smaller than a queen, as they were advertised as a queen. Also, I couldn’t figure out how to get the heater or air conditioner running so we had to keep the windows open. thankfully, it was a nice day in SF.

Super cute property with a great little kitchen. I love love love the garden. You feel so tucked off the beaten path. Our family would definitely return.

2nd 2 day stay in 6 months. Staff has been great. Stayed in the garden area (non street room) both times. Very clean rooms with time period furnishings. Parking is included and interesting. Seems like there is 1 garage per room, but they were built for the 40’s and tend to be tight. Look closely at what their website says.
- 3/5
Staff was great. Courtyard is charming. But bed and sheets should have been retired a while ago, and you're really not getting all that much for the money aside from great service. Too expensive for what it is...I'll return when they buy a new bed.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Marina Motel. Room was clean and bed was comfortable. We loved the beautiful courtyard and the free parking. Would definitely stay there again!

Very clean, older hotel giving old school San Francisco vibes and charm. On a busy street but in a nice neighborhood, super close to the presidio and within walking distance of the bay. We stayed for two nights and don’t use the kitchen, but it was clean and functional. Other than the kitchen, not much in the way of amenities, at least compared to the bigger union square hotels. But if you’re staying here, you don’t really expect that. It’s the charm and parking that are key here. The front desk staff, particularly the young person in the glasses who was there in the morning, were kind and helpful.

- 5/5
It was so pretty!! Definitely goes above and beyond what you expect for a “motel”. The property and room were quaint and loved having a private garage space. The neighborhood felt incredibly safe as well. It was tough being on the street side to park our vehicle but honestly have no complaints we loved our stay.
- 5/5
Tge small garage to store my car a bonus. Felt very safe. The furnace wasn’t working. Luckily it had been fairly warm.
- 4/5
Clean room. Easy check in. Parking first come first served but no issues finding a garage. For one night stop en route to final destination and after two weeks touring around N California it was ideal. Good position for bars and restaurants. A bit noisy and small room but for secure parking and one night stay, fitted the bill.
- 1/5
The front desk lady was rude. The property claimed that they pet friendly, but they despise dog. The front desk lady wanted to charge me 100 dollars per night because my dog was barking at night. In fact , it was her fault to assign us in a non-pet friendly room then wanted to charge us double as supposed to be 50 per night not 100 dollars per night.

Parking is an issue if you have a truck or large suv. No housekeeping daily. Dirty shower curtain, no ac in room and terrible bed. Cute on outside buts lacks hospitality. Not worth the price.

Great staff and location. We will stay here again on our next trip to San fransisco.
- 5/5
The staff very welcoming! The place is clean and tidy, just dated but to be expected with a place that's been there for so long. It had everything we needed for our stay with our 2 young children. It's a awesome little vibe with beautiful flowers growing all around, we stayed in one of rooms further back from Lombard street, we felt safe and it was quiet. Great location to explore San Francisco- we'd definitely stay again

- 4.5/5
I was very pleased with our stay at the Marina Motel. The room was nice the garage is a nice added amenity if you know anything about San Francisco parking is hard. The location is absolutely amazing so close to many things to do. I was traveling with my son who was able to take a nice walk to the beach and local food spots. The check-in process was simple and the communication with the office staff was easy. It was a bit noisy I will admit so if you are a light sleeper may not be the place for you. But this place gives a great local feel to your stay. I have already booked my next trip to stay here again.

Adorable hotel. Charming room and courtyard. Great shower. Excellent location--easy walk to brunch, coffee, shops, dinner, in Cow Hollow. Great covered and secure parking.
- 5/5
Location was great. Lots of restaurants within a three blocks walk. The motel is charming. The first motel on Lombard built in 1939. Clean. It has the charm of an era past with current amenities. And they supply individual garages for traveler’s vehicles. Secure and safe. The employees are friendly. I didn’t see any pets but me if the staff told me they were accepted. Price didn’t break the bank. I will stay there again.
- 4.5/5
Very nice grounds with flowers, plants, etc. Wifi worked well. Very nice staff. Shower and water pressure were good. Location is good in the Marina - close to shopping and dining. They clean the rooms at most every two days, and you need to ask for it. There was no desk or work area in my room.
- 5/5
The room was beautiful, and the kitchen was properly equiped

Clean room. Nice little kitchen. Very enjoyable. Recommend getting a courtyard room.
- 3/5
Unfortunately pets are welcomed to every room with a kitchen, rather than more select room. We were not aware of this and upon entry we were hit with an indescribable smell. Was it age, as the building and furniture are older, or something else. Once we learned that dogs are permitted in the kitchen rooms we realized the smell is a combination of pets and deordorizer similar to the smell at a veterinary office. We stayed one night and left in the morning. Thankfully they gave us a refund for nights not used.

I’ve stayed in large, more expensive hotels in SF that were less clean and spacious than Marina Motel. This will likely be our new go-to place to stay when visiting SF. The rooms were dated, but very clean. We didn’t cook, but it had all the basic equipment we would have needed. Our bed was very firm which didn’t bother us, but if you like a soft bed it may be too hard for you. It was great having a garage. However, they are super small and you may struggle to park in them if you have anything larger than a sedan or hatchback. The noise in the street facing room was noticeable but not so much that it bothered us or prevented sleep. It’s in walking distance to convenience stores, restaurants, and bars. Overall, I really enjoyed the stay. It felt like a relaxing place to come back to after a day exploring the city.

This was my second time staying at Marina Motel, mainly for its great location within walking distance of my favorite city sites. The rooms are comfortable and modest, and I appreciate the historic character of the property. Noise does carry between rooms and common areas, so earplugs are a good idea. While most of the front office staff were helpful, service felt inconsistent at times, and room cleanliness could be improved. Overall, it’s an enjoyable stay with a few opportunities to enhance the guest experience.

The property and the courtyard were beautiful and so well maintained. The rooms were quaint and clean with an at-home feel. The pillows and bed were super comfortable. Hearing the birds in the morning by the window planters was such a treat. The office staff were so wonderful and knew so many local spots with all the insider advice. Would definitely stay here again. This motel made our visit to San Francisco so enjoyable. The convenience of being right by bus stops with direct routes to Ghirardelli Square and the Wharf was an added bonus ! If you have the opportunity, stay here and enjoy your visit to San Francisco ❤️

Reserved a pet-friendly room - sole reason fo picking this stay and making this reservation. Arrived at check in to find they had no more rooms that were pet friendly. Besides the pet fee that I had expected to pay, they charged me another fee because the room wasn’t pet friendly. My pet fee was $100 nearly half more of my original reservation. Never again.

This is a great place, to stay. One of the major perks, is the private parking. In the city, trying to find parking, can be a challenge, and at times expensive. It was a huge relief to me, to know that my car was right by my room, and was very secure. I had a great experience, with all of the staff. Everyone was very friendly, and helpful. The room was very clean. I had a court yard room, and it was very quiet. I would ABSOLUTELY stay at this hotel again.

Rooms were clean and included a very nice kitchen facility. The one missing item was Kleenex or equivalent tissues. It was a rainy evening, and the noise of traffic on a wet road was quite loud, albeit acting as white noise for getting to sleep. The staff was great.

1930s motel is a surprising find in SF. On busy Lombard St in Marina District, this motel has a cute tucked in courtyard with very quiet rooms. Owned by a family for generations, the check-in was personal and very welcoming. Dogs are allowed in rooms with full kitchen. Though obviously aged, we noticed many upgrades such as new carpet, lovely light fixtures, contemporary touch key entry, and new bathroom fixtures and sink. Bed was comfortable. In our Queen w kitchen, courtyard facing, the kitchen could use an upgrade for the stove. It was functional, but funky. We were able to park in a small single car garage, so felt very safe for our vehicle. Overall, price through Expedia was very reasonable for SF, and there were no hidden fees. Extra charge for pets, and a $250 refundable damage deposit applied to all bookings. Felt good to support a family business, and to have a fair priced safe and quiet sleep in a charming vintage motel.

Great find! Clean and friendly, the only thing we might recommend upgrading are mattresses. But it is a decently priced budget place that is clean and offers free parking and it’s dog friendly. We will absolutely be back.

The room was spotless and the staff were very friendly! The courtyard with the greenery was really beautiful. The style in the room was a bit dated, but it didn’t feel overly worn/used everything was clean and in good shape. FREE PARKING. Very dog friendly (in the kitchen rooms) and only $25 a night pet fee. This feels like a mom and pop place that wants to provide a good budget space but still cares about your experience as a customer!

Our stay at the Marina Motel was amazing! We were in town for a girls night to see a concert at The Palace of Fine Arts. The location could not have been more perfect. The Motel is like an oasis off of Lombard street. The staff was amazing and the room was spacious and clean.

This is a very nice managed motel. Very clean and friendly, highly recommend this motel if going to UCSF. Loved that my dogs were invited as well. The managers of Marina Motel were very accommodating. Could walk to many restaurants to eat and Walgreens right down the street, all within walking distances.

This is the second time we stayed at Marina Motel. We love the garden courtyard, which is an oasis from busy Lombard Street. Unfortunately the room we initially had on this most recent visit had an odd smell, was quite small (no kitchen), and did not seem super clean. After one night with no improvement in the smell, we mentioned it to a staff member. She was amazing! She apologized and gave us a room upgrade that was a HUGE improvement. Now I know which room to ask for, because it also had a lovely view out the kitchen window! Even if my new favorite room is not available, I will make sure to request a room with kitchen since those are altogether more spacious & useful.

Clean room, comfortable bed, great shower for a taller person, and all top notch amenities. Friendly staff and very quiet at night for the area. Will always try and stay there whenever in SF.

The garages are nice but small. Adorable Motel.
- 3/5
Clean but aging. Carpeted floor, softer beds, bedspreads vs duvets. Bathrooms beautifully updated.
- 5/5
Charming vintage property with garages under every room, although first come first serve plenty of parking. Easy to pull into the charming courtyard, check in and walk up a short flight of stairs to cozy pet friendly rooms with rather firm beds and newer bathrooms. Courtyard very quiet and plenty cool in summer without AC, beautiful flowers and charm galore unlike any tourist or chain hotel. Perfect antidote and retreat from the busy city.
- 5/5
This place is such a hidden gem! The staff is amazing! Brendan at the front desk was so friendly and happy to give recommendations, the property is so beautiful and is like escaping into a garden! The rooms were quaint and comfortable, fully equipped kitchen, the bed was comfortable, and for being an old building the water pressure in the shower was great! Its super walkable and near a lot of hot spots! Definitely will be coming back!

Instead when we checked in, we were told if we needed housekeeping to call at eight in the morning. So the next morning I called and asked to have housekeeping clean our room and I was told that they only did it every other day. So the following day I called and asked for housekeeping told her we were leaving the room at 10 AM and they could come in after that when. We came back to our room in the afternoon and the room had not been cleaned. The only thing they did was empty the trash and leave clean towels. Only when we complained, did our room get done. Also, there was no heat in the room. They had to give us a portable heater to heat the room and the electricity kept going out lol they had to reset it in our room about four times. I'm sorry but for what we were charged $485 a night, we were very disappointed in the service we reveived. Diane Affourtit Barney Gutierrez

- 5/5
The area has so much to offer -- including a great coffee shop 2 blocks down! The courtyard and flowers were absolutely beautiful, even at the beginning of fall! Don't know when I'll be back this way, but would stay here again in a heartbeat! Beds were wonderfully comfortable; bath was sparkling and had everything we needed! We did NOT have a car, but they have parking if we had needed it.
- 5/5
Very good place to stay in S.F. Close bus lines and blocks into a nice bar and restaurant neighborhood
- 5/5
I’ve stayed here several times and I have recommended people to stay here. Always a lovely experience. It definitely gives a vintage feel and I love the garden area. The location is great and there’s always parking that’s accessible. It’s near a lot of outdoor activities as well as some nice bars and restaurants.
- 5/5
Many restaurants and supermarkets nearby.
- 5/5
Charming spot with incredible plants that create a unique atmosphere
- 4/5
the rooms are definitely outdated but still nice and clean. the parking is awesome, you get your own garage located below your room. tough to beat in the san fran area. staff was very friendly and helpful.

Love this cute boutique hotel with all the personal touches. Very quiet even though it’s on a busy street. Friendly staff and a nice dog run for the pup!
- 5/5
Awesome location. Very quiet and private
- 5/5
We really enjoyed this and I would stay here again
- 4/5
A quaint motel. Older furniture, but in good shape. No desk and the one chair was not very comfortable. The queen bed was very comfortable. No A/C, but being in SF, probably not an issue (usually). Near the very busy Lombard Street, so noise can be a concern. Located in a great area with many, many restaurants and bars.
- 5/5
This place is a gem. My wife and I really enjoyed our stay at this charming lil Motel. We stayed for 4 nights during our visit in Sf. The person at reception was super nice and welcoming. We are definitely coming back to this place! Highly recommend.
- 5/5
Beautiful courtyard, if u can get a room with courtyard view, highly recommend it!
- 5/5
This was the best stay in a two month home remodel of the six hotels for short term stays. First, the staff was so nice and non-corporate sounding. Wow, real people who were friendly. Who knew this might be a positive experience for travelers? I was traveling with my dog and they had set aside a small doggy space to so a little roaming and take care of business. I was so impressed with the interior with pavers, little garages for parking and great flowers and trees. Off of Lombard? What a treat. Also, just around the corner is the Palace of Fine Arts, perfect for pictures and dog walking, close to the beach and lots of restaurants and morning coffee places. I live in San Francisco and appreciate the old school charm and character of a home run by the same family since 1948. Definitely a highlight stay for me and my dog Ollie!
- 4/5
Clean , convenient and great staff
- 5/5
Love this hotel! Stay every time because it’s clean, charming and close to everything!

Love the parking situation. Nice people running the place. The flowers and hummingbirds are nice to wake up to. 2nd time staying there.

- 5/5
Absolutely amazing hotel, with kind and helpful staff. The kitchen is great too if you want to save some cash from eating out. My new go to hotel whenever I visit San Francisco.
- 4/5
The staff was amazingly friendly and helpful. The motel was in a nice safe area with shops and restaurants in walking distance. Definitely would stay here again.
- 5/5
We had a perfect stay!
- 4/5
Loved the ambiance of this hotel. Spacious rooms and loved the full kitchen. Only thing I would do different is ask for a courtyard room as the rooms on Lombard are very noisy. Super friendly staff that know the history of the property. Clean and well furnished.
- 5/5
The owners and staff are friendly and available for any questions. The ease of walking around is another reason I’ve always stayed with them. Thank you.
- 5/5
Staff was very nice and sweet!! The rooms were smaller but clean and quiet.
- 5/5
Marina Motel is a very special place! It was a perfect rendezvous spot for our family as we prepared to head north for our family reunion. The gardens were so special and unforgettable! Thank you!
- 5/5
It was well managed and clean beautiful flowers all around felt like you were in it in an Italian Villa very well kept secret. I feel spoiled after staying there I don't want to say anywhere else in San Francisco.
- 1/5
We reserved a courtyard room at higher price for this "pets friendly" motel. When we got there, only the street side rooms are pets friendly. No refund and an incredibly loud room.
- 5/5
This is our go to hotel when in San Francisco. Clean, beautiful grounds, friendly staff, spacious rooms, and close to great dining and public transportation. The bedding could use a refresh. Other than that perfect!
- 5/5
Loved it
- 5/5
This is our "go to" place in San Francisco. Rooms are around a beautiful courtyard. Garages. In the Marina District which we love. We highly recommend this historical jewel
- 5/5
Love the courtyard and the kitchen. Great place to stay if you travel with your dogs.
- 3/5
The garages have lower clearance than they indicate, and can’t accommodate an SUV that is medium to large due to the height constraints. There is a municipal parking garage just a few blocks away on Pierce St that charges $5 for overnight parking (9pm to 9am), however the staff was not aware of this parking garage, told me that there weren’t any parking garages that allowed overnight parking nearby, and instead recommended parking on the street. I would encourage the staff to identify the parking garage and direct guests whose vehicles are too large for their garage units to the Pierce St garage. I didn’t find it until I was leaving the day of checkout, so I ended up driving around for quite a while looking for a street spot, and ended up parking quite a ways away.
- 5/5
A Lombard oasis. You feel like you have completely stepped into a hillside courtyard, but somehow it is Lombard on the other side. Service was nice, room was comfortable and clean, shower was good. It’ll definitely be my first choice on Lombard from now on.
- 5/5
The Marina Motel met our needs of an affordable location with a kitchen. Beautiful flowers, murals, and friendly staff. The king suite was comfortable for two people. Marina Motel clearly communicates the level of road noise, it was not a problem for us.
- 5/5
This is an amazing hidden gem! We LOVED our stay here and anytime we are in the area, we will be headed back. The garages for cars that lock is a huge perk in the city and it is central to all things you would want to go and do. Feels like you are in a little town and the owners are so very kind and friendly!
- 5/5
The rooms have a 1940s style, but it is all well maintained, so it doesn't feel dated, it feels like you jumped into a time machine. Everything was very comfortable and pristine, hotel is very kid friendly, people working there are super nice and knowledgeable about the city. Another huge benefit is that they allow you to bring your luggage before check in on your first day and to keep it safe with them until later on the day of your departure. This is is critical, as you do not want to have a car full of luggage in the City, someone will break in your car. Super happy, will stay again next time I visit SF. The neighborhood has great restaurants too. Last but not least, prices were super reasonable.
- 5/5
Fantastic location in the Marina area. Close to great restaurants/bars, the waterfront, and various aspects of the city were accessible (especially by e-bike). The motel has a fun vibe and the unit was cute. The mattress was old and sagging but it didn't really bother me. I would go back there in a heartbeat and stay longer.
- 4/5
Very clean, comfortable and charming place.
- 5/5
I'm a regular visitor. The staff is kind and caring. Great visit every time.

This hotel was perfect for our 2 day stay. We had two rooms that were clean, comfortable and quiet. The parking was nice as each room has a garage stall. The staff was very nice and accommodating. Check-in was fast and we were even able to check in early. It was also safe and within walking distance to restaurants and shops. We will be staying again.

- 4/5
Quite nice
- 3/5
The hotel grounds are charming, with murals and gorgeous flowers. We checked in late and had no problem getting the key from the mailbox. Issues with room--very small with only one chair. Barely space for us to open the luggage rack. We had to open it in front of the closet, so we couldnt use the closet. The queen bed was comfortable, but one side was against a wall, so we had to climb in at the end of the bed or over the other side of the mattress. I kept thinking it could have been configured better. Our biggest issue though, was that the room wasnt cleaned when we were away an entire day. When i asked about it, we were told that you have to tell them to make up the room. That's fine, but no one told us that nor was there a sign in the room with that information. I do appreciate that i had an express delivery from Florida and they put the package in our room.
- 5/5
We loved our stay at the Marina Motel. Quaint and serene. They have on site parking which is great when traveling in San Francisco with a car. Would stay here again the next time we are in town!
- 5/5
The Marina Motel is my go to place in SF. It is reasonably priced, by the Palace of Fine Arts, and by good food, there's parking. The place is quiet, easy check-in, clean and if I ever decide, I can bring my dogs
- 5/5
Would stay agsin.
- 5/5
It was easy to get to everything. The motel was so so cool!!! We had such a good time. We definitely will be coming back.
- 5/5
受付がフレンドリーで親切でした。夜遅くても営業しているレストランが近くにあります。
- 5/5
Beautiful place to stay and convenient to shops and restaurants. Our go to place to stay in SF!
- 5/5
We checked in and it was so easy. Brendon checked us in and he was delightful. We had a very nice chat and a great laugh! He showed us all the ins and outs of how to get in and out of our own garage as we were on Lombard St. Yes we did hear traffic but both my husband and I slept very well! The place is Beautiful clean and well kept. We loved the fact we could park our car safely and walk everywhere! I really Love the city and have told all our friend. Great hotel experience!
- 5/5
Wonderful SF experience. The location was perfect for our plans and we felt like we got to experience SF in a new way. The hotel is quaint and has a wonderful charm. The staff are wonderful and make you feel at home.
- 5/5
The location is convenient to Chestnut Street dining, and the room was clean and comfortable. The price is very inexpensive for the area, also. Charming courtyard with pretty plantings. A+!
- 5/5
Incredible service from Staff! very friendly and open to requests. Also pet friendly
- 5/5
Really well located hotel with a garage to store my bike
- 5/5
Great location, comfortable and spacious room, friendly and courteous staff, and within walking distance to the Palace of the Arts and various eateries and bars. We enjoyed our stay and would stay again.
- 5/5
Staff was great and very accommodating to our requests and needs.
- 5/5
This was the loveliest little place in SF! It’s not upgraded but it’s part of the charm. The staff is friendly and helpful! They have covered parking first come first served— the only time I have felt safe with my car in SF.
- 5/5
Updated and comfortable cozy older motel walking distance from many restaurants, Presidio and fine arts museum. Easy access to 101 N & S. The 80 year old fuchsia’s and roses over the entrywere stunning.
- 5/5
Just as good second time around at this charming and well done motel for a good price. Courtyard atmosphere with landscaping and covered personal car garage! Some rooms bigger than others with less or more types of beds.
- 5/5
Beautiful

I booked our stay at the Marina Motel based on the reasonably close proximity to Fisherman’s Wharf and downtown San Francisco. Advertised as being owned and managed by the same family since 1939 we thought this could be rather interesting. The facade of the motel is rather funky with very colourful murals of flowers and had an Italian village feel about the place with very colourful window/flower boxes on all apartments. We were greeted by a very very friendly lady at check in who could not have been more helpful. We were allocated room 49 which the check in lady warned could be a little noisy with road noise from the busy Lombard Street but you got used to it not to be an issue. Very “old school”decor to suit the image of the hotel greeted us in our room after a steep climb up stairs to the room with a comfy queen bed, a small old style television (but was very adequate), bedside tables and a dresser, an satisfactory bathroom, and a decently appointed kitchen. Don’t expect modern compliances but everything was clean, operable, and enough to make your stay very pleasant. A very short stroll to the vibrant Chestnut Street with a plethora of nice eateries and bars, fashion boutiques, numerous nail and beauty salons, banks, and a rather expensive but nice. Buses at your door were so convenient. This place might not be for everyone’s taste but if you want spending money and wasting it on hotels then this is the place. Thanks a lot guys for our great stay!
- 5/5
First time at interesting motel from the past and something from a charming movie. Comfortable beds with all amenities needed and clean place to stay. Covered free parking & considerably quiet off Lombard / 101.
- 5/5
The only draw back is the parking is tough especially if you have a bigger car or SUV. There are not enough spaces if the hotel is at capacity. Nothing is brand spanking new but extremely clean. I loved that the windows open and our room was soooo SUNNY !
- 3/5
We were expecting a kitchen but had a coffee machine on a microwave on a small fridge. No tableware or silverware or place to wash dishes. This was in the small print just before check in, but not when we booked.
- 2/5
There is not a heating unit with a thermostat. The room has an old style radiator heater that turns on at a certain time. When? Staff didn't know. It was 45 outside, and the heater didn't turn on until ~9 PM. My only source of heat prior to the radiator turning on was a space heater stored in the closet. Additionally, there was no air conditioner. Although not needed in my stay, California can get warm in the summer. Despite it's charm, these deficiencies are not acceptable, especially considering what I paid for the room. The staff should, at a minimum, know when the heat turns on...
- 4/5
The only issue I had was it is old. It's to be expected. It is a classic Motel. Other than that the place is charming and quite. Be sure to avoid the street side rooms. I'm sure they are loud as it is right on the main street there. Dog area is more of a planted walkway but you manage with it or walk around the block. Pet fee was minimal. They accommodated parking formy jeep with roof tent and gear. Off street and we'll protected.
- 5/5
I picked this hotel because of its close proximity to the Marina District, Palace of Fine Arts and the Presidio. All within easy walking distance. The room was very comfortable and very quiet (inner courtyard). It may be an older property but the quaintness and overall cozy feel makes for a very relaxing stay.
- 5/5
Unique
- 4/5
Street noise is significant but we expected that in the middle of a large city. An option of a softer pillow would have made sleeping much better too. We loved being able to walk to local restaurants on Chestnut St only 2 blocks away.
- 5/5
The staff were so friendly and personable. The atmosphere was lovely and quaint! I loved the feeling of being in a simple motel from the early 1900s

The staff is warm and friendly and very attentive! The grounds are beautiful. We will be back! Thank you for a wonderful stay!!
- 5/5
The staff was very nice and the location is so great. Close to a lot of great restaurants. Surprisingly quiet for being in the city.
- 5/5
What a lovely and unique hotel! We would definitely stay here again. Next time, we would upgrade to a larger room, but the price is very fair for what you get, including the free and easy parking. There is a lot of charm, with well-tended gardens. Staff are very friendly.
- 3/5
Nice property outside but it needs to be updated in the rooms, great location.

We were on a 9 day road trip and wanted to find a place to rest on our way to the pacific northwest. We searched for a motel after normal check-in time, and found this Marina Motel with a little discount for late booking. We arrived in the evening, checked in.Garages were available which was great, parking a rental car on the street is not very safe.Room was super comfy with a kitchen. We were traveling with our fur baby, they are pet friendly! We LOVED our stay,as short as it was...Totally recommend!!

Really well presented motel. Safe, clean comfortable and in a super convenient location. Friendly staff and easy parking. What more could you want. I also loved all the plants, great way to soften the place and make it feel homely.

This time, we should have raised an issue when we noticed some reddish brown streaks at the corners of the bed under the mattress. We were in a hurry that evening so we figured maybe it’s not bugs, so we’ll just be careful and keep all clothes and luggage’s off of the ground since it’s just one night. That was a HUGE mistake on our part. For more than 5 weeks since we’ve been back, all of us have had new bug bites on our bodies, even after washing our beddings multiple times. I have unfortunately had bed bugs (?) from hotels and motels in the past but have been able to get rid of them or not notice them anymore after about a week. So this is definitely the worse infestation that we have contracted from a hotel. I like that hotel location, but can never go back to it again now.

Chestnut street just behind the property was quite a find. All sorts of restaurants and shops. I thought I was super familiar with SF but this street was new and fresh for me

We’ve stayed at a few hotels in downtown SF, but nothing compares to the Marina Motel. By far the best place we’ve ever stayed at. The Marina Motel is now our go-to place to stay whenever we’re in town.

The room was very clean, and well maintained. It was only a short walk to many attractions, restaurants, and public transportation. We left our car in the private garage for each room had and we were able to do everything we wanted using the city bus.

Love the vintage vibe, home like and has a garage.

This affordable motel was bit farther from Fisherman's Wharf than we hoped. However the convenient access from US Hwy 101 and modest rates made this a deal. And Mel's Diner was only 2 blocks away!

Such a beautiful property. Parking was convenient and plentiful, they even give you a garage to park in! Very cute and cozy rooms, I’ll definitely stay here again on my next trip.

Beautiful quaint looking rooms that were quiet and comfy. Staff were very accomodating as well

Very very small room for two people and the room/carpet had a funky smell. Had to leave the windows open for the whole 2 days. Bathroom was nice. Parking can be tricky if you have a SUV.

I liked the aesthetic of the motel and the view of the parking area

The stay was okay, at best. The pictures displayed–while somewhat accurate–seemed attractive. However, the room itself and furniture were dated. The room looked better in the pictures Everything about the room itself looked like it was from the 90’s. Sure, there was some modernization to the bathroom but that was it. The bed was simply too soft, to the point that it might as well be a water bed. Of course, all the electronics were up to date. But overall, not a comfortable experience. For the 8.8 rating that this place had, I felt a little misled. With all do respect, this stay felt like a cozy version of a motel 6. I would rate this a 6 at best and thats only because the customer service was great. The rooms could use some remodeling, especially the beds. You can still have a cozy feel while having modern furniture. Get rid of the carpet too. It looked old I made sure to inly walk around in sandals because of how dated it looked. Its a hood stay for a short trip. But it could have been a lot better.

Marina was super clean and the amount of flowers is great to the senses. Tim is super personable and friendly. For an old hotel it still was quaint but had a modern feel. We stayed inside in the courtyard area which was quite quiet. I am sure the outside street rooms are a tad loud at times because of street traffic. The location is great for food and the Presidio.
