The hotel is very conveniently located near Chinatown and a less than a 20 minute ride to Fisherman's Wharf. Being a Marriott Bonvoy member I received a free room upgrade to a suite which was very nice of the staff. The room was spacious with a comfortable bed and a walk-in shower. The drinks at the Level 3 bar were good but pricey. I was not happy about the hotel's $38 destination fee. It's a completely made up fee by Marriott and is not mandated by the city. Marriott does not mention this fee on their website. They inform you about it when you check in. They charge this 'destination' fee EVERY DAY you stay there and you can't opt out of it. Even more infuriating is they give you back $20 in credits each day but you have to spend it that day or lose it. You're forced to use these stupid credits at the hotel. We ended up buying overpriced $7 bottled water and snacks every day at their tiny convenience store.

Great staff, shout out to Bianka for starting our stay with such a warm welcome. Clean, spacious room and lobby. Level III served excellent food - great staff there as well. Loved the location of the hotel. There are overnight parking garages right across the street for $40/night. Would stay here again.

My wife and I have stayed at many nice hotels and they are all nice but it's the service from the Employees that brings us back, The employee ( Norvin) goes far beyond his duties to make our stay so much nicer, he always remembers us and his hospitality is second to none, Our next stay we talked about the presidential suite and Norvin gave us the tour of that room, It's fabulous. We will keep coming back and tell all our friends where to stay in the City, and location is fabulous ... Thank them all for another great stay ... There is not much ... The only thing I experienced was the young man at Valet desk after hours ... I am an early riser and I smoke so I take trips out to smoking area When I did on this trip, I went out to smoke and the young man was asleep, and the second time I exited to smoke he was on his phone, I said good morning and he ignored me or maybe he didn't hear me ... The Valet parking was quick and easy. Plenty of shops, restaurants and attractions nearby. Anthony was extremely helpful when checking us in and out.

Excellent location and very clean. Pristine rooms with a spacious bathroom.. The bed was also very comfortable however, for a hotel in this category, we felt it lacked some amenities and atmosphere .there wasn’t much happening in the hotel and many things seemed to close quite early. Our room was supposed to have a city view, but it almost faced another apartment building. We also tried the Hotel breakfast one morning and found it quite pricey. Overall comfortable stay in great location, but it didn’t fully meet expectations for this level of Hotel.

The room was big and spacious and we had a very beautiful view of the city at night. We requested for a later check out and was given 1:30 p.m. Then, when our tour operator informed us of our return timing of our morning tour, I asked for an extension of the later check out time to 2 p.m., but the counter staff very sternly rejected my request. On the day of our check out, we rushed through our washing up to reach the counter by 1:30 p.m. but there was a long queue of guests in front of us checking in. By the time the counter staff processed our check out, it was around 2:10 p.m. Wouldn't JW Marriot, being a top class hotel, allow for some flexibility in extending our check out time by 30 minutes?

Over charging for everything as booking.com communicated two nights room plus breakfast $645 but hotel charges a lot.

The property was beautiful. The room was clean. We were put in a room right next to the gym and constantly heard weights banging, especially EARLY in the morning. I told the front desk and they didn’t seem to care.

The Greeting crew are fantastic Especially ( Norvin ) He remembered both my wife and my name's from the last visit over 2 years ago, We booked a room with a view, But the view was building tops So Norvin arranged it and moved us from the 8th floor to the 15th floor which had a fantastic view, They always go above and beyond... Great location, Great food, Great employees, Great rooms, Hands down a Great place to stay ... We be back ... Thank you JW Marriott Greg and Cindy Moe Not much, Only thing was Ice machine was on 3rd floor but other than that ... It's all good

This was my first time staying at the JW Marriott in San Francisco, though I'm a big fan of Marriott Bonvoy hotels; this location and venue did not disappoint. Staff was knowledgeable, extremely friendly and helpful. I was there for a tradeshow, and while full of others there for the same show, it was much more quiet and peacful to conduct meetings. The in-room dining was average and quite pricey - but comparable to other hotels in the area. I will stay there again for sure

Hotel is located in the heart of Union Square. Lots of shopping and dining options within a 1-2 block area. Hotel is well maintained and staff are attentive. Will stay there again.

The JW Marriott at Union Square is a wonderful hotel. I stayed at many hotels in San Francisco in the past, the JW Marriott is one of the best that I stayed in, the other being the Fairmont. The JW Marriott is conveniently located on walk-in distance to Union Square. It looks newly renovated. Everything is impeccably clean. The decor is modern and beautiful. The lobby, elevator and hallways look modern and everything looks new and clean. The elevators are fast, have a view of the lobby and there is no wait for them. The room is spacious and modern. The be decor is fantastic. The beds are very comfortable. The bathroom is very large, modern and the shower is great. The amenities are excellent. All in all an excellent experience . I will stay there again in the future

The staff was very knowledgeable and helpful with identifying attractions that my family might enjoy. They also did a great job of explaining the amenities available at the hotel. Location was perfect to access all of our trip destinations. The price of breakfast was not worth it. Parking is only accessible through valet services. Nothing else to gripe about. Unless you plan on using all the amenities, it may or may not be in your interest.

I like the many electric outlets and USB ports for chargers. I don't care about the stocked mini bar in the refrigerator. Not many hotels do that anymore. In fact, the hotel charged me for two bottles of wine that were not in the room to begin with. After I pointed out at the counter, they took it off my final bill. The location is good. There are many dining options. I would stay there again.

Being originally designed by legendary architect John Portman, the original thoughtful details and space have been well maintained through renovations. The staff couldn’t be friendlier or more prompt to assist—they really make it a choice place to stay. I highly recommend staying at this hotel and hope to return very soon myself!

Most of the staff was professional and courteous. There was an instance during happy hour where my friend waited over 30 minutes to order a drink only for the bartender to never take the order. My other friend had to directly confront the bartender to ensure we all had our orders.

My family had a 2 night stay. The hotel itself felt welcoming and comfortable. I would like to mention the front desk rep Antonio who went above and beyond getting us checked in, giving us great directions and very friendly.

We loved our stay at the JW Marriott, hope to go back again someday soon !!! San Francisco is such an incredible destination, we loved it, stayed there and celebrated Christmas🎄.

I could not find anything called "shampoo" in the bath room. "Body wash," yes, but no "shampoo." And, of course, food in the hotel was at eye-watering levels. $40 for breakfast, $6 for a cup of coffee. Two breakfast restaurants are only a block away. Go there. The HVAC sound was so intrusive that I turned it off. We reserved for two nights, but left after one because my wife became ill. The hotel nevertheless charged us for both nights, and put a $782.80 "reserve" on my credit card, even though the final charge (which I paid as I left) was only $537.09. The hotel also charged $29.06 for the first day's "destination charge" as soon as we checked in. The "free" Internet is free only if you join BonVoy for $14.99, I was told at the hotel. On-line advertising says that BoyVoy is free, so what is it? I get free internet at $89 a night hotels in Arkansas, so why do I have to pay in San Francisco? Finally, the $25 a night "destination fee." It can be applied against restaurant charges at the hotel, which forces you to eat there in order to recoup the fees. Why not jut add the "fee" to the room rate, rather than calling it something else?

Second time that I stayed here. Experience was not a satisfactory at the last time. This time a lot of hidden fees. Room service $ 20 to bring towels requested at the service desk. Destination fee $ 25 for 3 days = $ 75. Even if a pay in advanced I end up paying more plus the fee for expedia for $ 75. Security deposit for $ 150 per day for a total of $ 450 service desk personnel didn’t tell me about this charge or explained me about it just showed up in my credit card. Even if it will be refunded against hotel charges it will take time to apply the credit to my card. Not enough staff to take care of breakfast customers. Waitress and personal very good but management to blame for not having enough personnel to support customers.
