Clean and comfortable. Great for families

Our room was spacious and included a lovely separate seating area that gave us plenty of room to relax after a day of exploring. The complimentary continental breakfast was modest but exactly what we needed to start the day without feeling overly full before heading out. There were a few minor issues. Some of the wallpaper in our room was beginning to peel in places, and the bedroom blind was broken and would not open. Most of the staff were extremely helpful and welcoming, although I had an unpleasant phone interaction with one staff member before our arrival, and another employee was only moderately helpful. Those small issues aside, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. I would stay here again in a heartbeat and would happily recommend it to others visiting San Francisco.

A lovely boutique hotel. Older but authentic SF style. Room was comfortable and had a small sitting area with separate TV which was nice for coffee in the morning. The continental breakfast was quite good. Great location near Union Square - lots of shopping, food options within walking distance.

We were very pleased with the room, location and parking options.

All of the staff we encountered were very friendly and informative. Rooms were clean. Only problem was room was a little stuffy could use a better a/c unit luckily I had brought a small fan for us which helped us stay cooler.

Great budget friendly hotel. Travelled with my spouse for a long weekend getaway. Hotel was nice, staff were polite. Continental breakfast is offered but not much variety. Other than that I would definitely recommend this hotel. I would stay again if ever in the Bay Area.

Amazing place to stay in San Fran! In the center of everything and there’s public transportation super close by. The rooms were so comfortable and very quiet despite being downtown. We were even surprised with a room upgrade!

Reasonably good value - you get what you pay for and hotels in California are expensive. A small hotel with just 30 rooms and no other services. The room was clean and comfortable. Breakfast was a simple serve yourself. The location was excellent - lots of bars and restaurants nearby, Chinatown and Fisherman's wharf within walking distance.

Excellent location, excellent hotel. It's older but charming. I stayed here for a work trip by myself and felt safe. The breakfast was just ok, but good enough to get your day started. I was able to leave my luggage for a few hours on check out day so I could explore the city before my flight. I had an issue with the TV (which is also older, probably the only thing I didn't like about the room) but they fixed it right away. I would definitely stay here again. The location is steps away from everything - Union Square, cable cars, Nintendo store.

Located just off Union Square, close to shopping and restaurants, comfortable, clean rooms with an accommodating staff.

The hotel and room were small, but clean and cute. But since it’s a smaller hotel, don’t expect early check in to be guaranteed. Also, there wasn’t an outlet on both sides of the bed, so my partner couldn’t charge his phone on his side but that wasn’t a huge deal - just something that we didn’t expect and weren’t used to. The staff were friendly as well and I appreciated the luggage storage service. Driving to the hotel, I thought the area might be kind of sketchy or dangerous but the actual area directly around the hotel is safe and very nice. There are some pretty nice stores nearby to shop at. Most of the touristy stuff isn’t close, but the area is good for walking around and shopping during downtime. I would stay here again.

There was no A/C, but the room was cool enough at night. I wasn’t happy about the $25 per day surprise “resort fee” that was added just before my arrival (with no extra time to change reservations). Supposedly, the resort fee was for extra amenities, such as continental breakfast, and water station - but these were advertised as “included” on Expedia when I booked the hotel! Not ok!!

The continental breakfast selection was good, donuts and other bakery, toast with various spreads, orange juice, and individual cereal packages. Shower had no handle for the door on the inside which is weird and awkward to open or close. King size bed was good and comfortable, room suite size was large and nice. I tried something different than normal hotels. I would not go back to here.

It was safe, quiet and central. I was sick during my stay, and I spent a lot of time sleeping. The bedding was very comfortable! I also appreciated that it was walking distance to lots of restaurants and transportation. It was also nice that the hotel offers a continental breakfast. The hotel is in an old building so it appears a bit run down at first. But once I adjusted my expectation, it was totally fine. I can appreciate the charm of it. (I only mention this in case anyone is expecting something modern). As I mentioned before, it was well-kept, clean and comfortable. And very central to what I needed from my stay. I would stay here again.

This was a nice cozy small hotel building, the rooms were nice and the breakfast was great but don’t expect the usual eggs and sausage deal. They serve mostly healthy fruits and pastries. The only pet peeve I have is that they don’t mention a fee of $25 per night extra for the breakfast-on the website the breakfast is free but in actuality you pay for it!!

This hotel is noisy… common areas are adjacent to rooms on each floor. The common area just outside our room had a vending machine is use at odd hours during the night. It wasn’t a restful experience

There was no air conditioning unit in the room, and it was hot during our stay in mid-March. Additionally, the shower room drain was clogged.

No air conditioning, breakfast poor - no bread, very basic items. Very small breakfast room. Only appeal location. Given the charge per night of USD25 for ‘extras’ very disappointing. Would not recommend except perhaps for a one night stay.

Great property, in brand new condition, close to union square, not a huge hotel but if you are mostly out, it didn’t matter. Breakfast was good with a variety of things. Only thing that was not pleasant was humidifier was very loud in room. If they can take care of that it was great.

The room was nicer than I expected, but I have my doubts about how well it gets cleaned considering the fact that when I lifted up the toilet set, I found a disgusting brown-yellow color water. Someone used the toilet, didn't flush, and somehow no one noticed when the room was allegedly cleaned. Before my stay, I received an email that stated the following: "The Inn At Union Square has a security deposit of $200 that will be processed upon check-in, and on top of your overall totals IF YOU DID NOT PRE-PAY your reservation in advance." That is copied directly from the email, but it is a lie. They would not let me check in without paying an additional two-hundred-dollar deposit even though I pre-paid in full. The front desk woman was also incredibly rude about the whole thing. I showed her the fine print, and she told me that what they sent me was wrong and I still had to pay the additional deposit. I didn't have room on my credit card, so I used my debit card. However, if you use a debit card, it takes 20 days to get your money back and they only refund part of it. They take an additional twenty-five dollars for each night you stay for "amenities", whatever that means. It's a decent hotel, but nowhere near worth the money, especially since I will be waiting for a refund for a deposit that their own email told me I would not have to make. There are lots of places to stay in San Francisco. I recommend finding somewhere else. I would definitely not stay here again.

The location is perfect so close to all the transportation and stores and coffee shops. Very clean room, staff were friendly and helpful. We stayed in a suite. The air condition worked great and the bedroom was located inside not facing street so was quiet. Free continental breakfast downstairs also was a nice service. We had a very comfortable stay.

I love staying here. Parking around the corner, restaurants nearby lots of stuff within waking distance. Comedy show and even theater nearby.

Famtastic location. Rooms clean and well maintained. There is no aircon so i would not stay here in the summer.

I spoke with multiple staff members, but each gave me the runaround. I asked to speak with a manager, but management was completely unreachable. The hotel’s handling of this charge was completely unacceptable. They have no system for resolving disputes, and guests are left running in circles for something that isn’t even their fault. Be very cautious if you stay here. Unexpected charges can appear on your bill with no way to resolve it. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone.

Room was spotless. Antonio went above and beyond when we needed a second room. When my phone wouldn’t work to book a tour online, the front desk staff were courteous and let me borrow the use of the hotel computer for 2 minutes to book the tour. You saved our vacation.

I think the room service was by far the best ive ever had. The bedding was incredible as well. There was a 25$ service charge for amenities which were ok but the breakfast wasn't worth 25$ in my mind. I would think that if i do pay 25$ i would recieve a better breakfast and a smart tv with just netflix or some other streaming service. Other than that, the shower was nice, and room was clean. Do keep in mind the walls are thin so people can hear most conversations if outside in the hall, unless you speak in whispers

Wish they had coffee service in the lobby before 8 am. Rooms have little coffee makers but only powdered creamer. Shelf stable half and half pods would be a nice upgrade. Tiny complaint. This is a well-priced, perfectly located snuggly spot in the city. I’ll definitely return.

1. a larger breakfast room. (each of our 6 mornings could not accomodate seats at the table for all who entered during the first hour). 2. Removing the "air freshener" plug in devices in lobby and floors. They can and did cause nausea and headaches for those of us with fragrance sensitivities.

We have stayed here before and had a very nice experience, however our most recent stay was not satisfactory. I am disabled and have mobility issues. We were told upon arrival that the elevator was broken and that our room was on the third floor. The person at the front desk although pleasant, gave us no option other than climbing three flights of stairs. My husband pushed for a better option and finally we were told that we could have a room on the second floor, which still meant me climbing two flights of stairs with limited mobility and a cane. The first set of stairs had no handrail and I nearly fell several times. After we finally arrived at our room we discovered that we had been assigned a room with 2 stairs at bathroom entrance. We were surprised that front desk person saw how much I struggled and still put us in a room with steps at the very end of a long hallway. Even being as cautious as possible I fell on the steps that evening. We tried to discuss issues with front desk person again and were told that it was out of their control. We had plans that night and the next morning which meant climbing two flights of stairs multiple times. It was truly an awful stay.

The location is excellent for this hotel, my wife and I stayed there during the Thanksgiving holiday of 2025, and we were both excited about touring and sightseeing the beautiful city of San Francisco Upon arrival we were greeted by the front desk person which was very cordial, but at the end of our check-in, she said she had bad news for us, and the bad news was that they’re elevator was not working and more than likely would not work during the duration of our stay. We were originally set to have a room on the fifth floor, but as a person with two knee replacements, hiking five floors to come and go from a hotel room is a little bit of a challenge. I immediately asked to be upgraded due to our inconvenience and be placed on a lower floor, which they were able to accommodate. The room was spacious clean well kept however our showers water pressure was very, very low and it struggled to get hot enough. The non working elevator actually hampered the comings and goings as having to climb stairs (narrow staircase, and in one area, a short ceiling where I bumped my head twice) to come or go from the hotel room to do anything was work. Overall, my wife and I still enjoyed San Francisco, but it wasn’t our ideal trip and I hope that the end that you square does resolve a few of these issues so that future guests won’t have these inconveniences to disrupt inconvenience their vacation.

We enjoyed our 4 night stay here. Room was very clean and quite. Love that we were able to open the window! All the staff were very lovely. They have a great filtered water machine in the hallway. My only complaint would be the hallways and lobby have maybe a lil too much fragrance/air freshener, but luckily the rooms are not this way at all. I would definitely stay again.

Really comfortable rooms. Very convenient location with numerous different shops, bars diners, etc within 2 blocks. Hotel doesn't have its own bar or restaurant and the Continental breakfast is very limited for the price that is added to cover breakfast. And it doesn't open until 8am on weekdays... As we had to be at our event prior to 8 it was useless to us. Our team liked their rooms, and other amenities. I would have no issue staying there again.

Overall a good location close to Union Square. However one cannot go to California these days without feeling ripped off. The $25/day ‘amenity’ fee is levied whether you take breakfast or not. It’s just yet another form of taxes due to exorbitant costs associated with running a business in CA. The hotel is quiet and overall clean with comfy beds. Be prepared for a lot of homeless and people wandering around with mental health issues. SF is a great city but has its problems.

Regarding parking, it was clear from the start that the hotel doesn’t provide it, and cars can’t stay parked in front for long, so we were already aware of that. The hotel is in a great location, easy to walk everywhere and it truly reflects the charm and character of the place. It has history, and that’s one of the things I loved most about it. It’s full of personality and feels like being inside a movie.

One block off Union Square, this was a delight. An old property well cared for, we rented a suite and were quite happy with the space, the amenities, the staff, all of it. It felt much more friendly and welcoming than any high-end hotel we've ever stayed in. Heartily recommended.

Nice stay that is central to a whole lot. The staff were very welcoming and friendly to us. There was an issue but they resolved it and we had a better time once it was. Appreciate the hospitality.

The staff was very friendly and accommodating. The room layout was beautiful. Unfortunately the bed was extremely uncomfortable and sinking in the middle. Additionally, it was rather warm and the hotel does not have AC. We appreciated the free continental breakfast in the morning

Great accommodation located in the heart of Union Sqaure. Very convenient to everything. Be aware rooms are not air conditioned so if it’s warm outside then it will be pretty warm in your room. Very clean & nice size rooms.

This is the third time I’ve staged at Inn at Union Square and the service, cleanliness, comfort, and convenience are consistent and embraced. I will continue to book here for all of my visits.

As someone that expects excellent quality stay, this spot met my expectations, and more! Spacious rooms, decent range of free breakfast menu, housekeeping staff that goes above and beyond. Please support hotels like this over big chains.

Location was excellent to Union Square. Luxury shopping nearly. Tiny room with NO AIR CONDITIONING in the property. Breakfast was great for a continental breakfast, however wheat bread as an option would have been nice. No gym. Really just a place to sleep.

Wouldn’t book here again, there’s was no built in AC, it was hot in the room. They only had a ceiling fan and a heater. Asked for a portable AC which thankfully they had. The guy who came and installed it didn’t even bother to hook it up to the window he assumed we were stupid and wouldn’t notice. The bathroom was very hot and the doors were like stuck you almost got to run into it to open the bathroom door. The room was extremely small and Front desk staff were rude at some point. No parking at all. What a disappointment, book away from downtown! Unless you want to struggle

Really nice hotel, overall a nice comfortable hotel, relaxing environment nice workers and free breakfast too. Kept up to date with cleaning our rooms overall I enjoyed it.

The mattress was too soft and quite uncomfortable. The sheets were scratchy and the material too hot for comfort sleep. There’s no air conditioning so the room get quite stuffy but there was a nice ceiling fan. Also there’s only views of the walls of other buildings around so don’t expect an actual view of any kind.

Beautiful charming hotel. Extremely clean. Great location. Only negatives would be the ridiculous $25 fee per day for nothing and the breakfast that has only sweet stuff, not even a piece of bacon or a boiled egg. Also, no gym

This hotel is well located, welcoming, clean and charming. If you want a big chain with lots of so-called amenities look elsewhere. If you want a comfortable, clean, quiet room, a warm welcome, a comfy bed at a reasonable price, this is your hotel. We live in the South Bay and come up to SF for theater, restaurants, and time with friends. This will be our go to from now on!

The receptionist was super helpful and let me check in early. However, the hallway is very narrow and the room was smaller than what the pic showed. I guess it is normal for inns in the downtown area.

This hotel is near the major areas we visited in San Franscisco and easily accessible to the cable cars. Lots of options for places to eat and shop.

Beautiful hotel and a great centralized location. The room was always clean and the staff was out of this world. The only thing is, if you didn't get to the continental breakfast when it opened, you will likely not get anything as they do not restock the pastries or refill the coffee.

Great small, old style hotel conveniently located steps away from Union Square, shops, and all the transport links you need. The rooms are huge, rooms and clean with all the amenities you need. Also nice and quiet. The breakfast was also handy.

Loved my room - quiet, clean and comfortable. A great find near Union Square. The continental breakfast was better than expected.

I was skeptical at first but it was alright. Took some time to get use to. Overall everything was good. The parking is the only issue, you have to park around the corner for $35.00 but if you go out more than once they charge you $10 each time you go out.

Last minute. Fit the purpose. I just don’t think it was worth the price, since I got charged with resort fees + parking wasn’t in the premises.

Was very close to many shops and bus stops to get around the city. It was very clean and had friendly staff. Felt safe to walk around at 9pm for some food.

We called and the man in the morning was so rude when we asked about the check in process. He told us we could check in early however he let someone else check in early? I was confused because he told us that everyone’s check in was strictly 4. Glad he was gone by the time we got back from eating because the next employee was there and he was so nice and accommodating.

The Inn at Union Square is a gem! Conveniently located, well maintained, and very accommodating staff. Room and bathroom were spotless, and the bed was comfortable. The size of the room is just right especially if you’re spending most of your time out and about. Would highly recommend.

Great location but incredibly quiet. The bed was exceptionally comfortable and clean. Staff welcoming and friendly. The small buffet breakfast good and sufficient to start your day. Good care was taken of our luggage after check out until we departed to the airport. Our room was lovely, with a separate sitting area. Everywhere was very clean and well maintained. There is a 20 dollar additional charge per day which we only knew about just before arrival. This is to cover amenities, including the breakfast. However, there are no facilties for making hot drinks in the room other than coffee. For a small hotel it's appreciated providing individual facilties may be difficult but tea and milk etc could be left on the buffet bar during the day for guests. It would make more sense to give a total price for the stay, which is the norm, and not add on fees for facilties one would expect.

Our room was a perfect size for a couple. The beds was comfortable. There was an electric coffee pot, hairdryer, etc. We liked the fresh pastries, coffee, yogurt, oatmeal on the 2nd floor. We have no complaints.

Paid for the suite. Fireplaces do not work, but the suite was very nice! Loved the shower!
