Reviews
The hotel is generally well-liked for its cleanliness, friendly staff, and convenient location in San Francisco. However, some guests have complained about hidden fees, noisy rooms, and uncomfortable beds.

Angel at the front desk was warm, helpful and friendly. The property was recently refreshed and the decor is on spot with art deco style. I’d definitely stay again.

Great value- loved the ice and water machines and the helpful staff. Very cute and comfortable

Great location for carless hotel guests. We were able to Uber, walk, and use the trolley to explore the city. Plenty of restaurants, coffee shops, and bakeries near by. Oracle park is a short distance and accessible by foot. Coffee is provided every morning in the lobby along with a continental breakfast. Neighborhood is safe during the day, but I'd be careful at night. All in all a great stay and I would come back again next time I'm in town.

The staff and facilities were beyond the usual. Angel at the front desk helped me and others I observed navigate booking screwups and her knowledge was outstanding. If you book this hotel I suggest asking for Angel!!

We really enjoyed our stay at Hotel Julian, and were well informed during our stay. We knew that the light breakfast would be light, but it tended to run out a little now and then, and refills were occasionally delayed. This was no big deal for us. We had a "do not disturb" sign up the first morning, but got no cleaning on any other day of our 4 night stay. We did ask for emptying of the trash, which they handled in no time. All-in-all, we left happy.
- 2/5
The hotel is sooo old and it has only 1 very old elevator for the 7 floors, so you need to wait a long time each time you wanna take it. I stayed there for 1 night and the room next to me was so noisy and had to change my room. They were accommodating in this part but took them a very long time. Rooms are so small with as few amenities as possible. Definitely not worth the price.
- 5/5
Friendly staff, clean room and lobby, and able to hold our luggage after check out.
- 5/5
Great location and caring staff.
- 5/5
Room was clean and surprisingly up to date. Great area for restraunts bars etc. The only downside is that it’s close to the Tenderloin, which has a reputation for being one of the sketchier parts of the city.
- 4/5
It was a very nice hotel I just wouldn’t recommend going out at night in that area and put your car in a lot over night!
- 2/5
Hotel was not in the best area. The walls were extremely thin where you can hear a simple conversation in the next room over. Room was not properly cleaned, the pillow case had what seemed like a blood stain on it. I would not recommend nor would I stay there again.

We stayed 6 nights, it was easy access to everything we wanted to do. All the staff were very friendly.

Very cool old classic hotel, location was within walking distance of many popular places. The rooms were clean, the breakfast was limited to pastries and coffee but we really enjoyed our stay!

Great hotel! Perfect staff and so clean!!! In the heart of San Francisco

The front desk stuff very friendly and professional. They let us check in earlier which was very kind. WiFi in the room was working great. Room nice and cosy. 4 stars for this hotel is far too exaggerated… - Room The room was cosy and bed comfortable. However, there was no safe, no fridge, bo bottle of water or even a bottle to refill it with water. We had coffee machine but paper cups to make a coffee in… For 4 stars hotel this is a bit awkward. The worst part of the room was that it was super noisy. In our room we had a secret door which turned out to be connected with a bathroom of a room attached to our room… We were very unlucky with guests there because it was first Italian guy giving a full concert under the shower, next day it was American guy watching football full volume and other day were two girls preparing in the bathroom for a party I suppose. They didn’t even have to be loud, the door was not isolated at all so we could hear everything anyway. But if it was not enough, ceiling was also so thin, we could hear every single step of people walking above. Difficult to rest in such environment. - Cleaning With cleaning in this hotel you must be very lucky. Sometimes we got nothing at all, sometimes cleaned room, made bed and replaced towels or sometimes just replaced towels. When we asked why our room was not cleaned, we heard that we must request it. Fair enough, but even when we requested it next day, we heard that only trashes will be taken out and towels replaced and we said okay but when we came back in the evening, nothing has been done… We were lucky to meet a cleaning lady on the corridor so we could asked her for towels. Again, not a 4 star hotel standard for sure. - Breakfast This is actually not existing. Few pastries, few fruits and coffee from the coffee bain-marie. On the booking website nice pictures of food but it turned out not to be a case. Again, not a 4 star hotel standard.

Check in person was great_offered upgrades and much information on the city
- 5/5
Clean comfortable room and bathroom. Excellent when you want to be out and about. We had our coffee in the lobby area, which was very cute.
- 4/5
We got a third floor room so there was no view of the city. Breakfast is just some pastries and I never saw a bartender... so not sure what carlotta's is or if its open. The room itself was good. The walls are a little thin as it is an older building so just keep that in mind when booking.
- 4/5
Breakfast a little chintzy. Everything else was fine.
- 5/5
Very nice hotel! Very convenient and close to where we wanted to be
- 5/5
Beautiful room, clean, great new appliances, great bed
- 5/5
Charming hotel in a good location for downtown adventures in SF. The room was very clean and beds were comfy. The shower was really nice. We enjoyed our stay!
- 2/5
The lobby furniture was in poor condition and no attention to detail in the lobby. The elevator, 1, was in poor condition and not up to date with inspections. The halls were also very worn and not very clean. The room was actually ok but the HCAC was very noisy and continued to blow out cold air even after turned off. The weight room was very poorly maintained and had major trip hazards. It is obvious that the owner of this property never visits the site.
- 5/5
Very secure, safe hotel (locked lobby doors & security 24/7) Excellent coffee in the AM. Exceptionally kind and professional staff. Great bath products Only “meh” = very slow (1) elevator. But we were on 3rd floor so super easy stairs solution. Might be a little more inconvenient if on a higher floor. Will absolutely stay here again!
- 5/5
Very nice place to stay. Neighborhood is a little sketchy but the hotel was excellent!!

- 3/5
The photos make it seem nicer than it is. The floors smell like toxic cleaning product and there are no amenities or room service. It is a very bare bones hotel. The staff was friendly and attentive but that did not make up for the awful smell, the state of the building (very old - nothing updated). I was given a room by the elevator and it was super loud, I had to sleep with earplugs and the mattress was not firm enough. Overall, I would not stay here again.

Please see my other review regarding the rats or mice that the hotel is obviously infested with. However there wasn't enough room to also add - the sinks and showers do not freely drain, there is currently no Cafe their as claimed (apparently closed for the season, but maybe it is because of the pest problem?), they do a coffee and cupcakes / pastries in the morning - the cupcakes are good but you could be waiting up to 25 mins for coffee to be refilled? Gym facilities are good. Safety of the neighbourhood is not great, it is right on the fringe of the tenderloin and I wouldnt recommend any hotels in this area if you are looking for easy vegetarian options - i was paying about $60-80 per day just to order in food. There is no kettle, microwave in the rooms and fridge doesnt come as standard, but can be requested.
- 2/5
After doing a google search of the original hotel name, I realised that they are well aware of their pest problem and sued the city 3 years ago because they claim it was caused when the hotel was used as a covid hotel, but they've had three years to rectify and I did not spot one pest bait box in that property, so it seems they are just ignoring the problem. The night security guard also advised that sometimes they see mice in the foyer. When I had checked out and returned to collect my bag, I was asked by one of the duty staff how my stay was and I spoke about how it was difficult to sleep after the move because I could still hear the mice / rats walking around and the man who collected my bags and seemed to be more senior pretended to not know, but even with the manager right near him he didnt say anything?? Most of the staff were super lovely and I was changed to a different room on level 2, but sure enough there was still rodent movement in the vents, so it was very very hard to sleep in the evening for the final week ( i stayed a total of 12 nights in two separate bookings). The carpet is very old in the halls, but thankfully the rooms do not have carpet

The first-floor bar/restaurant it gorgeous but it was closed when we were there, I think until sometime in mid- to late May. That was the only disappointment. We really enjoyed our stay there. Staff was super helpful with suggestions about food and places to go. Room was quiet and clean.

Friendly staff and updated rooms and esthetics made my stay really comfortable and best deal in city. Complimentary breakfast was a plus! Convenient location well definitely look to stay there again.

This is a cool old hotel that has been modernized. I love the upper floor views and appreciate the friendly staff. The big bummer was that the bar and restaurant were closed. Also, the tub drain did not allow for drawing a bath. Other than that, it was a comfortable stay with yummy local restaurants nearby as well as decent car storage.

Hotel Julian was exactly what I expected: charming, a little worn in the best way, and full of the character you’d expect from an older building. The staff were great — local, kind, and genuinely welcoming. My room was small, funky, and nicely updated, though it was a bit noisy, which also felt pretty in keeping with the building. One downside was that the room did not have a safe. I was also disappointed that the restaurant and bar, Carlotta’s, was closed because it’s apparently seasonal, since one of the reasons I chose this hotel was for the restaurant. It would have been helpful if the hotel and Booking.com had made that clear in advance rather than implying the hotel had a restaurant available.

Just as pictured! The bar was closed downstairs and the neighbourhood is just on the cusp of the bad area but seemed to have some good night life and is in great walking distance to knob hill etc.The hotels a little outdated but the staff was extremely nice and helpful! And the hotel seemed popular. I think some rooms might be nicer than others. They don’t have safes in the room FYI but overall for the price I would recommend!

We’ve been to this hotel twice now and pro tip: recommend a room far from the elevator. The elevator is older and louder so if your room is next to it, it might be loud. This trip we were on the 7th floor and it was much more enjoyable. The room was not facing the street and it was more quiet. Hotel Julian is a great hotel that’s safe and worth a stay! the type of room you order is very important. I recommend the executive rooms. They are on a higher floor not street facing and they are a bit nicer

Finding parking initially was difficult but eventually I snagged a spot on the street 2 blocks away. Once checking in the receptionist did give me directions to their suggested parking garage that was around the block. I just came solo for a night. The room was modern with good lighting and a nice full length mirror. The bed was very comfortable and supportive. My only complaint is the walls are thin and at times it was quite loud. All in all it was a great option in a convenient location at a great price!

An upscale hotel in many regards. Checkin was difficult. It was not a friendly experience for me. The bed and shower were luxurious. The bathroom huge. Enjoyed my stay, even when I heard the couple next door going at it for hours. There was an extra $20 charge not disclosed before booking the room.

The bar looks lovely and would have been great for a post dinner drink but we were told it is ‘closed for the season’ this was not highlighted on our booking and disappointing for us. The rooms are nice and an ideal size for a break. Could do with a deep clean as some run down spots.

Hotel was conveniently located about 10-15 min walking to nearest bus stop or cable car. 1 king bed room we stayed had a good size bedroom and bathroom for two people. Location of the AC in the bedroom bothered us since it was installed above the bed with fans pointing towards the bed and it was not possible to redirect the orientation of the fans. We had to run it before bedtime to air the room and then turn it off since it was too loud and cold but then room may get little stuffy. They charge $20 amenities fee which we never heard of in any of our stays in CA. This included breakfast which had tea, coffee and croissants and muffins which were not very fresh but edible. We rather have breakfast not included and not pay for it and choose what to eat ourselves rather than eating the same thing every morning. Staff was very nice. Overall we enjoyed our stay.

Continental breakfast was lack luster. Providing a happy hour wine reception would go a long way when the restautant/bar is not open- seasonal

Our stay was great! Our room was clean, the staff was SO friendly and accommodating which truly made our entire stay. We appreciated that so so much. They gave us recs of things to do/where to eat and were so helpful when we needed to extend our room stay an extra night. Close to many things we did in the city and felt safe since we needed our key cards to get into the lobby! Would not mind staying here again!

Amenities were not worth paying for. Internet was really slow, morning snacks were scarce, and failed to provide a proper amount of bath shampoo/conditioner/body wash (even after letting staff know). Motion sensor light in bathroom was not convenient as it shut off frequently. Elevator is very slow and small. Staff were not welcoming. Will not stay here again and don't recommend staying here.

I love staying at botique hotels that are inside the neighborhoods when I visit big cities. This one fits the bill perfectly. Everything is within a 15-25 minute walk and public transportation is within a 5 minute walk. The staff was amazing and the rich history of the property makes the stay even more enjoyable.

Staff was super friendly and the room was nicely cleaned. Breakfast was "small bites" but they had tummy croissants and some pastries as well as yogurt and coffee/tea. There's also a nice little cafe right across the street that serves delicious breakfast bagels and other breakfast if you need something bigger. Parking was kind of a hassle but that's for most places in SF

We had an excellent experience during our stay at Hotel Julian. We were in town for two nights and needed a convenient place near the Moscone Center, and this hotel was a great fit. I thought it was odd that they charged an additional $20, after I had already paid for my reservation online, for the amenities. The bar was not open, apparently not open for at least a few months.... They said the fee was so they could provide early check-in and late checkout, but I did not request those. Shady. The hotel smells pretty awful, they sprinkle powdered carpet perfume all over the place. It was pretty gross. Were nice enough, the bed was nice and clean. The staff was very friendly. I think we would stay here again, if I can get past the smell.

I stayed here during Super Bowl week. The staff was so responsive. We had a few issues (not major ones), and they handled them quickly. We got Ubers with no problems. The pizza place and coffee shop nearby were delicious and fast. It wasn't a long ride to the airport. The rooms were interesting. The bathroom was updated, but the floor had some permanent markings on it that looked like dirt. Housekeeping cleaned it immediately, but it wouldn't go away. It looked like dirt but it wasn't.

Hotel’s elevator not working; facade of hotel is scaffolded as under construction; restaurant services not available and had issues with hot water in room (supply stopped for one day as boiler repaired) and then water temperatures tepid.
- 5/5
Staff were nice and the room was spotless. Loads of great restaurants within walking distance. (And I mean LOADS!!!!) Area can be a wee bit sketchy in the evenings but it is well lit. Just be aware if your surroundings. Hotel has security staff at night.
- 4/5
The hotel appears to have been recently renovated. The beds were comfortable, and the bathroom was clean and modern. While there is no on-site parking, there are two nearby private paid parking lots within walking distance. Overall, it’s a great hotel for a short stay, and I would definitely stay here again. Note: the hotel elevator was not working during our stay.

The staff was awesome. They were so sweet and the room was fantastic. The elevator was broken during our stay, which we knew after we booked it but still sucked lol also, the parking situation is just not my favorite not having a on-site parking lot so that’s why I gave it four stars not five

Great experience. Clean rooms and friendly service. Will definitely be booking again next SF trip.
- 5/5
The room was far nicer than I was expecting. We could hear our neighbors at night which wasn't ideal, the walls were a little thin. The area was actually okay, it was safe enough and the front doors are locked at night so I felt safe.
- 4/5
Fire alarm came on twice
- 5/5
Clean, area was a little rougher than expected but safe.
- 4/5
Hotel Julien was ok for the price. Extremely friendly and accommodating staff. A little outdated and the elevator was out (we were on the 5th floor) but the beds were comfortable. Overall it worked for what we needed. Careful walking around the area; it’s so sad to see how San Francisco has changed over the years. Massive drug problems that you really can’t get away from. We did not feel very safe at night.
- 5/5
My boyfriend and I came for our anniversary weekend and we were happy with our pick. The rooms were clean and had a cute old style decor to it while still being modern. The customer service was 10/10 and every employee we came across was very friendly. The elevator wasn’t working when we came, but they found us the next available room on the lowest level and offered to take up our bags for us, even offered to hold our bags when we checked out to explore more. The location isn’t the best and can be a little sketchy at night but it is around a lot of good bars and restaurants, it didn’t affect our night adventures. We would definitely come back again, 10/10 we enjoyed our stay!
- 2/5
The building is very old and needs extensive renovations. Walls are VERY thin, you can hear conversations of neighbors (and more). The elevator was under repair during my stay. The neighborhood can be dicey so they lobby door was locked (key card entry) after dark--which is a nice security feature, except for when I had just arrived and was trying to get in to check-in. I will not stay here again
- 4/5
The broken elevator is a minus. Otherwise, great stay!
- 5/5
The hotel was cute, friendly and accommodating staff, great location.
- 5/5
Very pleasantly surprised at the value of this hotel for what it offers. Was the best price for the area so wasn’t expecting excellence but I could not be more happy with my stay. Front desk staff was so friendly and helpful, the rooms were spacious (not always a given for older buildings in SF), very clean and well appointed, a gym, all night security at the front lobby, and a lovely attached restaurant/bar with a great happy hour menu. The only caution I have is that the walls are somewhat thin but this is VERY common and unavoidable for hotels in older/original SF buildings. The hotel is just north of downtown so if you are looking for an affordable alternative that is a short Uber or even walk away, I can not recommend this hotel enough.
- 2/5
Elevators were down for over 2 months. We were on the 6th floor so going up and down was hectic. The morning of our check out, it appeared they only had one employee aside from the one working the front desk. I would expect them to have more employees helping guests with their bags in these circumstances. We were waived the resort fees so that’s a plus. Overall, wouldn’t stay here again
- 5/5
Front Desk staff excellent.
- 3/5
I've stayed at Hotel Julian quite a few times this year, and this time the elevator was broken (and isn't supposed to be repaired for another 6-8 weeks?!) and the bar - usually buzzing with energy - was quiet. The rooms are perfectly fine, very comfortable beds and newly renovated, clean.
- 5/5
Parking in San Francisco is difficult, luckily there’s a very reliable parking garage up the street (on Sutter…a two minute walk). Take into account that this adds another $30-$50 a day to your room cost. The location of the hotel can’t be beat! It’s close to Union Square (10 min walk), Knob Hill, Chinatown and even the wharf is reasonably close if you like the exercise (1.6 miles). We felt very safe walking, but just be aware of your surroundings because it does borderline the Tenderloin district. Also, catching an Uber in this town is very easy from the Hotel Julian location. We would definitely stay here again!
- 4.5/5

- 5/5
Great location and service at a great price
- 5/5
The room was delightful and the location just down the street from San Francisco Playhouse, where we saw a play. We were on the third floor, and only afterwards did they tell us their elevator was permanently broken. No problem for us, but be advised. Apparently, it was a "VIP Access" Hotel, but since I didn't know that, I have no idea what "amenity" I was supposed to receive.
- 5/5
No complain.
- 1/5
1. Elevator is broken 2. I booked an executive queen, but was told that h the it’s not available. 3. First room they put me in has a broken light. 4. Phone was broken in the next room 5. They said the only room that doesn’t have any broken item is a downgraded room. I took it as I was so tired after all the back and forth, and climbing 4th floors multiple times. 6. I found the shower door was broken and cannot be closed later that night. 7. They promised free breakfasts during my stay to make things right. But told me the kitchen was closed the next day. 8. They told me the kitchen was broken the 2nd day. 9. They told me they are out of staff, so there’s no breakfast the day after that. 10.
- 5/5
Friendly staff, clean room, great location.
- 5/5
I liked my stay at Hotel Julian for two days trip to San Francisco, was a nice area, walkable to places where you can eat, bars and union square. Hotel was clean, even though the elevator wasn’t functioning those days wasn’t a problem. They can keep your baggage after checking out if you needed which was very helpful. I would go back to Hotel Julian.
- 3/5
What on earth do they do if they have a disabled guest? What is tacky about this is that the elevator has been out for SEVERAL WEEKS!!! What is the hold up with the repair? Secondly--the was no bar or restaurant service in the evening?!! I booked a 3 star property and got 2 star level. Not cool! And $35 glass of champagne?!!! Avoid this place. Maintenance and housekeeping was good--that's it!
- 5/5
Their king size bed was nice

We had also made dinner reservations in advance at Carlotta’s, the hotel’s restaurant, for our anniversary. No one contacted us to let us know that the restaurant decided not to open the kitchen that night. When we showed up for our reservation, we were casually told the kitchen was closed because “the bartender didn’t show up.” It was unprofessional and completely ruined our dinner plans. Our room wasn’t much better. The floors were visibly dirty, and it was clear that the area around the sink hadn’t been cleaned. there was grime on the counter and it looked like it hadn’t been wiped at all. Between that and having to go up and down five flights of stairs every time we left the room, it was honestly exhausting and frustrating. Overall, this hotel did not deliver a quality experience, especially given that we booked specifically to celebrate a special occasion. Poor communication, lack of cleanliness, and no effort to make things right made this stay extremely disappointing. I wouldn’t recommend staying here unless major improvements are made in customer service and maintenance.
- 5/5
Small shops and corner stores in close proximity. Only a few blocks from union square, and China town. A good area.

Staff was really friendly and could not have been more helpful. Room was clean and comfortable, bathroom was very nice with a great shower. A nice sized family grocery store is about a block away with all you need. The bar/restaurant inside the hotel (Carlotta's) measures up to the very good reviews it gets. Although we didn't really try the bar, we did eat breakfast two mornings, and it was outstanding. Really quality food and presented like it was a 5-star restaurant but with reasonable prices and great service. We used Nexus parking which is a block away and they were great, $45/day or $55/day if you want in and out privileges during the day. The elevator is obviously an ongoing issue with this hotel. I saw fairly old reviews mentioning it was down but thought we would get lucky, but we didn't. The staff was nice enough to move us down closer to the 1st because of this, but we ended up on the 4th, not too bad but really a pain. Later in the week when extra rooms weren't available many had to go as high as the 7th, and I'm sure that was terrible for them. There are also a few rooms on each floor that adjoin others and every word from the other room can be heard in yours, so be sure you specifically ask to avoid those. The staff kindly moved us because another was available, but some may not be so lucky.
- 3/5
Great location and a free glass of wine a day. A bit worn round the edges and lift not working for the duration of our stay. Forgot to make up our room first day and coffee pods not topped up regularly.
- 3/5
Had a dirty towel in the basket in my room and the elevator was broken which meant walking up six floors. The wifi also didn’t work for a majority of the morning.
- 3/5
El elevador estaba fuera de servicio
- 4/5
The first I noticed when I checked in was the elevator wasn't working. I asked when it would be fixed and was told a couple months. I don't walk well, especially climbing stairs, so that was a major problem but Angel at the front desk was able to help fix that problem. She's a great employee and needs to be complimented. A refrigerator in the room would certainly help. The beds were fantastic. The majority of the front desk employees other than Angel need to be retrained. When a customer approaches the front desk they need to be acknowledged which rarely happened. The bar staff, especially Jason, were fantastic and food was great. Only thing that needs work on is the front desk and the elevator.
- 4/5
The shower had two glass doors, which made it a little inconvenient to close properly. Since it wasn’t aligned with the toilet, water splashed outside the shower area. On the positive side, the staff were very friendly, the bartenders were great, and both the rooms and corridors smelled wonderful. We didn’t use public transportation, but Uber was very reasonably priced. Overall, if the elevator is working, I would definitely stay here again.
- 4/5
The property was nice, staff were nice and helpful. The elevator was not working and we were on the 5th floor. It was a surprise to us since there was no notice beforehand. Other than us having to climb so many stairs, the rooms were clean and very comfortable!
- 4/5
Awesome to have great breakfast in restaurant in morning. Would return.
- 2/5
Broken elevator, 5 flight stairs walk up. Broken shower. No soap, shampoo, conditioner, or bath kit provided.
- 3/5
Cute hotel, fun rooms. Elevator was out and had to hike 4 floors. Major inconvenience considering the high room rate. A free glass of house wine doesn’t quite cut it to compensate.
- 5/5
All perfect
- 5/5
Had a few shops near by! Great hotel my only complaint is the elevator is permanently down
- 2/5
Room was clean and hotel was conveniently located. Elevator was out of service during our stay, but amenity fees were waived as a result. Cleaning staff threw away a friend's toiletries left in the bathroom while cleaning the room for the day, no compensation was given other than cheap replacements. Cleaning staff began vacuuming the halls at 9-10pm on our second night which woke us up. The reservation stated there would be a safe in our room, there was no safe in the room. When these concerns were brought up to the front desk, I was offered to be put on an email chain explaining our concerns to someone else, which I was never even put on. The first front desk staff member was very kind and held our bags during the day before check in. Overall, for the price, decent enough. I wouldn't stay here again.

Elevator was not working throughout my stay and I had to carry my bags 6 floors up.
- 5/5
Pretty quiet and clean for the location. Very cute!
- 4/5
Lovely staff, beautiful room, and overall amazing experience. Slept like a baby!
- 2/5
Elevator not working and no parking
- 3/5
I was told the elevator didn’t work and we have to walk to the sixth floor for our room.
- 2/5
Elevator was broken, ac did not work. Phones to call to staff did not work.
- 3/5
I really wanted to give this hotel a great review because upon check-in I felt surprised that their rating wasn’t higher. The front desk staff who checked me in were helpful and informative, the hotel itself is beautifully designed, and the furnishings are overall in good condition. Sometimes you book a cute place and it looks much crappier than the photos when you arrive — that isn’t the case here. I appreciated that the windows opened, there were lots of outlets and real AC, the hot water never ran out, they provide bathrobes and blankets, and I had the option to cast to the TV from streaming apps on my phone. Overall it was a very comfortable stay. The restaurant/wine bar onsite is also super great. Upon arrival the front desk staff informed me that housekeeping services were on request only — totally fine as I feel like most hotels operate that way these days. On my fourth morning there, I stopped at the front desk on my way out to request housekeeping that day, but returned in the late evening to discover that no one had come. (I found out later that they want you to request housekeeping by 10am, again totally understandable but I was not informed of this at the time.) I called down to the front desk to report that housekeeping had not come and asked them to please schedule it for the following morning. On my way out the next morning I checked in to make sure they had it scheduled and was again told it would happen. However my husband arrived in the late afternoon and still no one had come, he headed out again shortly after that and asked if they could please get someone in there since we’d now asked three times and were on day six of our stay — but got back later in the evening and STILL nothing. I then sent a message via Booking since we’d now asked four times, and received this message in return, which I can only hope was AI-generated because I can’t imagine a human with a brain thinking this was an acceptable response: “I sincerely apologize for the inconvenience and dissatisfaction you've experienced with housekeeping during your stay. I understand how important it is to have your room cleaned. I have been told by Housekeeping that light housekeeping has been completed. Light housekeeping includes trash being removed, if there are no items on the bed-then bed made up, refill of coffee upon request, and towels removed and refreshed. For more thorough cleaning, we recommend coming down to the front desk and discussing exactly what you would like to have completed for your room. Please note that housekeeping is completed on request and must be requested by 10 am so that we can ensure same day service.

Not a good stay window got broken into and no parking no elavator
- 5/5
Nice place. Clean. Staff great helpful. Bar in lobby. Breakfast good!
- 4/5
Great location, obviously remodeled through the years. It seemed like our room may have been a hallway once, because closet and bathroom doors could have been front doors to other units. Really nice shower, but bathroom was kinda cramped, toilet was too close to shower and didn't have elbow room. NO WORKING ELEVATOR. Staff was told to say it will be fixed tomorrow but that wasn't true. No fridge or microwave. But walkable to several cafes and bars, close to bus stops. Bed and pillows were comfy. Room was large but no dresser or shelves to unpack, just closet rod and two night stands. Only one chair at the small table so we had to eat on the bed, so we used the provided bathrobes as a table cloth because they were too small to wear. Coffee maker was nice, but we had to move it in order to use it. We liked the overhead lighting and the lamps that could swivel. A/C was amazing.
- 5/5
Everything is great, even tough there is homeless all around but we loved the hotel and the stay. They need parking for their customers. Parking is hard but wasn’t too bad. The house wine was amazing. Great staff easy access s
- 5/5
Awesome place!
- 4/5
I was pleasantly surprised, this was great value room. Just what we needed nothing more nothing less. Very friendly staff, clean room, even gave us a goodie bag with a water and some snacks! I’ll be staying here again👍
- 5/5
great stay
- 4/5
Check in was quick and easy. The room was nice, a little small. The bathroom and shower were big. Everything was clean. The coffee maker cord was short so you had to unplug it to fill water and put the pod in, was a little annoying. Location for us was great.
- 5/5
Great staff and Great location! Really appreciated the lung staff and their recommendations. Jason provided some great brewery recommendations and some amazing restaurants we wouldn't have found otherwise
- 5/5
Great little hotel in a perfect location in the City. Fantastic staff and a cool little bar/ restaurant. Would have like a fridge in the room but otherwise can’t fault it.
- 4/5
We enjoyed our stay a lot. Great design, great location & we loved Carlotta’s, the bar/restaurant in the lobby. Some minor hitches with requests—we wanted to get the lotion in the bathroom refilled (it took several days & 3 separate requests for this to actually happen), get/keep an extra bath towel in the room, etc. We finally went straight to the housekeepers, who were very nice.
- 4/5
The room was beautiful surprisingly spacious for it being a “petite king room”, and I loved the restroom. Staff was great and they give you a complimentary drink! The only downside was the parking situation and our restroom could’ve used a mop. Overall 8.5/10
- 4/5
The hotel stay was great. I stayed for one night. On check-out day I went to the restaurant for breakfast. I asked the waiter if it was complimentary and he stated that it was. Then when I was done eating, he presented me with the tab. I'm not sure what the mix-up was but I went ahead and paid the bill. I've never had that happen before.
- 4/5
close to downtown - my room was next to the elevator and it was very quiet. It was clean and the staff was very nice. They did charge a $20 fee that I wasn't expecting when I checked in.
- 3/5
Decent hotel for the price. It’s close to public transport, so it’s easy to get around as tourists. Crostini & Java is a great breakfast spot nearby. The coffee at A Cup of Joy sucks. Front desk was very friendly.
- 3/5
A nice little hotel. Hallways are narrow as the building is older. I was quite surprised by the "resort fee" charged at check in. When I inquired about it I was advised it covered things like bottles of water, WiFi and fitness facilities, of which there was an exercise room only. I commented that such amenities are standard now and was rewarded with a free drink that I guess cost me $20. Also, some glasses in the room would be nice. And my coffee maker didn't work. I did advise the front desk about that.
- 5/5
A mix of classy and modern style building
- 5/5
Everything was clean, easy check in. Hotel will charge extra $40 as resort feed. They will provide water, snacks and a free glass of wine.
- 3/5
You have to request a house keeping. Rooms wall are too close.
- 3/5
The bad part was the check in. I was told that I would be charged a $20 amenity fee for a water and granola bar (that I did not want) and for a complimentary glass of wine in addition to the $20 resort fee. How is the free glass complimentary if you have to pay for it? The person who checked me in, Liam, was not kind or helpful in explaining this charge. Then, we got our keys and went to our room- but someone was already in the room. So I went down 6 flights to get the new keys, even though we were tired and ready to get to our room; and he was not apologetic. On the flip side, we were granted a late check out by the manager and that was nice.
- 5/5
Lovely responsive staff. Older building is aesthetically renovated modern & airy. Very convenient location 1.5 mi walk to many sites.
- 5/5
Loved the lore of the hotel, the staff was super friendly and helpful. Great happy hour drinks, bar staff was great. Hotel was clean, great location, I would definitely stay here again.
- 5/5
Loved our stay, it was very clean and staff was nice. Food was great! Located in a good area close to many things. Did have to park down the street ($50) since hotel had no parking but other than that I would definitely stay again
- 5/5
Nice staff, nice rooms and good location!
- 5/5
The staff was really friendly and helpful. I found the hotel lobby to be really cute and well designed. The room was also very nicely renovated. This is a great price for this property and I would stay here again. Everything you need is located conveniently downstairs.
- 5/5
great place to stay in SF
- 5/5
Beautiful hotel in a convenient location. Staff were super friendly and helpful. The room was lovely and had a really comfy bed. Particularly enjoyed the selection of cocktails available in the bar and the two bartenders who served us were great and gave us lots of tips for our stay - thanks for making it one to remember!
- 5/5
Everything was excellent
- 5/5
The sandwich shop, 2 doors East of the hotel, is magnificent!!
- 4/5
Had a nice stay, enjoyed the bar - some fun food options and nice cocktail menu. Entire staff was very friendly and accomodating
- 5/5
Loved my time spent at the Hotel Julian. The staff was very kind and helpful. Rooms were very comfortable, and really nice beds. Very pleasant stay. Would gladly stay again!
- 5/5
The bed and pillows were my favorite! I was comfy at night is what matters to me the most.
- 3/5
Aesthetics.
- 5/5
I stay frequently for business or to see shows and eat in fine restaurants Great rooms
- 5/5
We enjoyed our room. The front desk was very lovely and accommodating. We had a great stay would definitely stay again.
- 3/5
A comfortable room. I requested a fridge and got one.
- 4/5
This hotel was very cute and I loved all the staff. The only complaint is that you can hear everything through the walls.
- 5/5
It was great! Glad we stayed here… walkable to restaurants…short uber away from other SF areas
- 4/5
The location was great! Walking distance to all the popular tourist spots. Room was small but comfortable. The only thing was the noise coming from upstairs. It was just constant banging sounds. Good thing it wasn’t during the night so we were still able to sleep. All the staff were friendly and accommodating. They also have timers on their light switches. So we’d be showering and the lights would just turn off. We had to learn to work with it. We’d stay here again though it was great for the price.
- 5/5
Beautiful older but updated building; small but wonderful gym area on first floor, in house restaurant, updated spacious room
- 4/5
Comfy bed, AC worked well. Very clean.
- 5/5
- 5/5
Comfortable, spacious room.
- 5/5
The staff was so wonderful and we enjoyed our stay so much, great location!!
- 4/5
Everything was clean and the bath was great.
- 3/5
- 4/5
Great location and felt safe. Very cute boutique hotel. Rooms were a little loud. Bed and pillows were comfy!
- 5/5
Newly renovated. Spacious rooms
- 3/5
The overall location of the hotel was good. Easy to walk to surrounding tourist attractions or take public transportation. The area did have a lot of drug addicts and stragglers. I would also say the hotel male staff were a bit micro aggressive. In particular, Paul had a bad attitude. The elevator was also out of service when I went out at night and I had to walk the stairs to the 7th floor. I would not stay here again.
- 4/5
The administrator Julia was very kind to us. We were pleasantly surprised by her knowledge of Russian and the gifts provided upon check-in.
- 4/5
Very comfortable bed, friendly staff. Huge shower which was nice. Would stay again.
- 4/5
The hotel itself was very clean but the blocks around the hotel were not nice, lots of homeless in that neighborhood. The room has a coffee machine, but after the first day, after using the two coffee pods in the room, we need to request the front desk for more because they would not replenish the coffee or cups when they cleanned the room. The breakfast in the restaurant downstairs was supposed to be served from 06:30am to 10am. We were there at 06:35am and the waiter said that coffee would be ready in 10-15 min which was a bit of iupset since we needed leave the hotel at 7am to go to Napa. Other than that the food was ok. I beleive the restaurant is not part of the hotel is runned by a thirt party. The hotel staff were very nice and helpful.
- 5/5
Its pretty, quiet, clean and the staff was awesome .
- 5/5
Beautiful hotel. Soft bed and pillows. Loved the fixtures and rooms.
- 4/5
Staff were very friendly and helpful. Location of the hotel is within walking distance to pretty much everything you need - groceries, restaurants, liquor stores.
- 3/5
Our room was large. The bed was comfortable and the AC was brand new and worked well. But there were a few broken items— a light shade and the shampoo dispenser in the shower. Also the bathroom light was on a motion detector and it kept turning off while we were showering! No one wants to be left in the dark in a slippery shower.
- 5/5
Had a great stay! Staff was friendly and accommodating. Location was great, right in the middle of everything!
- 5/5
Staff was really nice. The rooms are super cute and well decorated. located in perfect walking distance to most places. Would definitely stay here again
- 5/5
The place is small. We like that. The beds were perfect. The shower was nice. Everything was clean.
- 3.5/5
New modern furnishings and gym onsite. Although would have expected a mini fridge in the room at least for the price! Location very close to the tenderloin so wasn't super comfortable walking around on my own at times and ended up just bringing takeaway to the room
- 5/5
Happy to have chosen this place. It was our first time staying here and we were able to get the full city experience. Easy to walk everywhere even with our two kids.
- 5/5
Vintage glamour, renovated, great bed, super comfortable. Lovely bathroom w all the amenities. Thanks Hotel Julian, and to Angel who checked me in. Also, for Hitchcock fans, lots of Easter eggs :)
- 5/5
The staff is very friendly and helpful. The room is clean and updated.
- 4/5
Staff was super nice! Rooms have super thin walls so could hear the other guests! The shower doors wouldn’t close all the way so water spilled all over the floor. They don’t have parking so be prepared to pay 45 dollars for overnight parking nearby!
- 4/5
Close to restaurants, bars, union square, china town other cool attractions and things to do in San Francisco. Lively surrounding area. However the streets are dirty and a little noisy at times. Street parking is a real challenge
- 5/5
The only issue is you need $200 extra for them to hold onto while you stay on their property. Other than that is was a really great place to stay and cheap. They said they started to implement a $20 amenities fee but I feel like they should add that to the full price of the stay.
- 5/5
My rooms was spacious and clean. Front desk staff was super helpful.
- 5/5
The hotel was clean and the staff were friendly. The location of the hotel was also ideal for our tastes.
- 3/5
- 5/5
I loved everything.
- 3/5
I’ve stayed here over years, and always enjoyed my time. It does seem like the city is working towards cleaning itself up. A few zombies around the hotel, but never felt unsafe or I was walking down a “bad street”. The hotel itself is just old. It feels old, not in a classy way. While the charm is still there, it’s just weathered. Staff was great! Bar was good. It’s clean, but I probably wouldn’t stay again, even at this very reasonable price.
- 5/5
The site does have only one elevator, but you are not waiting for it for long.
- 4/5
The bar and the staff was pleasant. Also, I felt safe in the neighborhood!
- 4.5/5
Staff except for one person
- 4/5
Only one elevator is not easy for the staff and guests together in the same elevator but we can discuss work and listen to the staff while going to the room. The area outside is a bit sketchy in the evening! But overall good place to stay! Thank you!
- 4/5
The hotel was nice and the people were very friendly. Especially the Bar/Restaurant crew. The area was not too safe looking. The floors were sticky and the sheets were not too soft. When I went to wash my hair there was no conditioner in the bottle. It was empty.
- 1/5
Don’t waste your money or time. If I could give zero stars I would. But I want this rating to be seen and recorded. I plan to personally reach out to Expedia based on my experience at this hotel. This includes these experiences: BLOOD on the floor of a room, a door to one of our rooms, DID NOT lock. Found evidence in our room that it was not thoroughly turned back and cleaned. The front desk staff was extremely unhelpful in many situations. This included the property manager's condescending attitude towards women (muchismo macho man himself.) Also, the area? You’re literally right on San Francisco’s "tenderloin"… So one morning, we were woken up to what sounded like a literal explosion at 5:30AM. Human excrement was also in the streets nearby. And I guess a homeless lady was in the hotel lobby the night before we left. This hotel charges WAY too much for anything they offer. If they charged accordingly and actually accommodated you accordingly for the problems that were had, it would be completely different. Our weekend was overall wonderful as long as we were out of our hotel.

- 1/5
This place sucks dont stay here
- 5/5
The room was in great condition. The staff was very accommodating.
- 4/5
We loved the hip decor! We did not realize how far the hotel was from all we wanted to do. Overall it was ok-3 out of 5 stars.
- 5/5
I absolutely loved the antique charm of this hotel, it felt like stepping into a piece of history. The happy hour was a whole vibe with great music, stunning aesthetics, and a fun bartender and server who made the experience even better. The staff throughout my stay were kind, professional, and incredibly helpful from check-in to check-out. A surprise highlight was the gym! I wasn’t expecting one, but it had everything I needed and got the job done. The rooms were spacious, and the bed was super comfortable, perfect after a long day of exploring. What truly set this place apart was the character and history. Knowing the hotel was featured in Alfred Hitchcock’s Vertigo added such a cool layer to the atmosphere. The artwork and overall vibe were a solid 10/10. Highly recommend this spot if you’re heading to San Francisco. I’ll definitely be back on my next trip!
- 5/5
It was a great location and very helpful staff.
- 3/5
Julian hotel was okay. Could improve on the smell inside elevators and lobby. Convenient located, just not as clean area as other areas in San Fran
- 5/5
I booked this hotel for my daughter. She said that the hotel was really nice, the room was great and the front desk staff was incredibly friendly. I think the location sounded perfect for getting to public transportation and was on a safe block.
- 5/5
Parking is not on site. You have to walk a block in one direction or about 3 the other direction. And it’s very expensive. We were in an ev mustang, and it was considered over sized so it was more expensive. 4 nights of parking was around $300.00z
- 5/5
Nice, safe and clean:)
- 4/5
Decent for the price. The building is old so you can hear noise from other rooms, and there was no lockbox in the room. Other than that, a very good place to stay.
- 5/5
Property was clean and staff every respectful.
- 4/5
European style design, extremely friendly staff. Yet, cleaning staff don't speak English at all
- 5/5
No.
- 5/5
Great location to everything
- 4/5
I was plesantly suprised by this hotel. Usually boutique hotels are hit or miss, but this one deifnately hit. It was cute. The room was spacious and felt very comfortable. The only minor complaint that I have is with the lighting in the bathroom. Unless you are moving around constantly in front of the mirror, the lights will shut off after a couple of minutes. Meaning, everytime I took a shower the lights would cut off after a few minutes because they were not detecting me in the room. I would have to reach my hand out of the shower and move it around for the lights to come back on. That got midly annoying, but it's not enough to prevent me from staying there again. All in all I would absolutely stay here again and recommend it to others.
- 4.5/5
no parking spaces
- 5/5
Good
- 5/5
The only thing is their drinks were super expensive, two drinks cost 50$! But other the. That it was a pleasant stay
- 5/5
Comfortable relaxing
- 5/5
Beautiful hotel. Staff very knowledgeable and personable. Would stay here again!
- 5/5
Hotel was in a good neighborhood. No problems like in other parts of city. Angel in front desk was friendliest person you could ask for
- 1/5
This was actually the WORST experience in 48 years of traveling! We were checking in at 4pm (plan was to change and get right to my uncles surprise party at 5) the front desk attendant was incredibly aggressive and rude. As of she was looking for a fight! Our hotel was already paid for in full prior to our arrival. Because (I just got married 8 months ago) my Expedia name was different than my drivers license. I showed her multiple forms of ID! We even offered to send her my old drivers license with maiden name (as she had she needed printed copy) she refused that. It was not 4:30 I respectfully pleaded with her asking “ could my husband and I just change so we can make it to my uncles 80th bday party then we can come back and resolve this issue. A demeaning no was her response, she told me I had to change my name with Expedia . I then did that on my phone. I showed her my Expedia account and that my name was changed, She said she needed to wait until she received it on her computer. It was now 4:45. I asked her why can’t she just work with us , please our hotel has been paid in full, at this point my husband and I were just shocked and agitated. As we travel with my Expedia account and name so often and never had this issue! She then says “ I don’t like you” no joke word for word and canceled our reservation! My husband calmly kindly ask, could we please have a receipt of the refund and she said no you will have to get that through Expedia. Truly, the most demeaning service
- 4/5
I though the the all the people working at the front desk were extremely helpful with every question i had about the city.
- 2/5
When we arrived the front desk had a sign that said be back in 30 minutes. There was no parking out front so I had to illegally park and wait. The hotel does not offer parking and I had to park in a garage one block away. The room I had was near the elevator which caused my room to be noisy.
- 4/5
Quick Easy comfortable
- 5/5
Absolutely wonderful staff. Friendly and professional. Thank you all!
- 5/5
Convenient location, clean, and comfortable. Amazing service at the restaurant and at the front desk, especially with Angel!! I would return just for her hospitality.
- 5/5
Unbelievable value! This San Francisco hotel was impeccably clean, on par with a 5-star experience, yet the price was even lower than what I paid 15 years ago. Its prime location, just 5 minutes from Union Square and a short 15-20 minute walk to everything else, makes it highly recommended.
- 4/5
Checked in after 3pm. Room i booked was unavailable. They were able to upgrade us but not sure what difference was since it looked just like room i booked. Thin walls, could hear conversations from next room. Staff super helpful and friendly. Parking was a nightmare i drove dodge ram and was oversized so i paid $70 overnight. At the end it is SF tho right. A lot of restaurants and parks nearby so that was awesome.
- 5/5
Good location, it is an old building preserved with modern amenities, new bathroom, good sheets and pillows, excellent place.
- 4/5
Could use a shower shelf for personal items.
- 5/5
The front desk staff were always very kind and wonderful. the Bartender was very genuine and fun with my family. You went the extra effort to take care of our newly wed son and daughter in law. Overall very wonderful. Thank you.
- 5/5
This hotel felt very high-end despite not hosting the earth. The staff were incredibly friendly to my family as we were travelling with 2 year old twins. Our room was very spacious with 2 large, comfy beds, a table and chairs, large tv, and bay window with bench seat. Our family of 4 had plenty of space here. Our one gripe was that there was no minifridge or microwave. There was an ice bucket provided and ice machine downstairs, but we did find it tricky to keep toddler necessities such as milk, yogurt pouches, and deli meat cold during our stay. We also ate out more as a result. We did not try the hotel restaurant although it looked lovely. The shower was lovely, although wished we could turn off the automatic bathroom lights at night to avoid waking the children. Overall a great stay and felt very safe in the hotel, although we avoided comibg back after 7pm as surrounding streets were starting to feel a bit rough.
- 2/5
/19. Couldn’t give us a refund for the night. Very upset because we thought we found a perfect place to stay, good location and price. Really unfortunate.
- 3/5
I liked the decor. I was told there are bodies in the walls. Not sure if that's true or not, but it seemed likely as there are also bodies in the crawl spaces of nearby buildings. Certainly organized crime going on next door.
- 5/5
Really enjoyed my experience, very close to everything as well
- 5/5
It’s a nice boutique hotel in a good location.
- 5/5
Lovely hotel!
- 5/5
Super Comfy Boutique Hotel SAFE SF Neighborhood Walk to Masonic Auditorium
- 3/5
Hotel was nice, most of the staff was great. Julia works the front desk and seemed to have a bit of an attitude, also wasn't aware we had to request for our rooms to be cleaned.
- 5/5
Relaxing and comfortable!
- 4/5
Very good place to stay - area around the hotel is not very quiet but it's a downtown area in a major city.
- 5/5
We went to the lounge to have cocktails & the bartender, Logan (?) was a such a delightful treat. So much so that on our last evening in San Francisco, we stopped in to say goodby & thank him for making our first night so enjoyable & memorable!
- 5/5
Julian is a very pretty, clean hotel. I found all the staff to be helpful and all had cheerful attitudes. The room itself was lovely and the hotel brought us a fridge upon request. Overall very happy with our stay!
- 5/5
Excellent staff. Front desk were on it, and Logan behind the bar was excellent and friendly as well. The property is old school and charming, recently bought by new owners. They’ve done a great job in making it look classy And updated. Plus it’s affordable. I will definitely stay here again.
- 5/5
Awesome staff and experience! Logan, Shawn, Tamer, and Julia were super friendly and helpful.
- 4/5
Great location, clean rooms and reasonably priced.
- 5/5
Everything was excellent, especially the service. Very nice room if a little modest but that's to be expected for the awesome location.
- 5/5
Excellent property would definitely stay here again!!!
- 5/5
Had a great time. Friendly and helpful staff.
- 5/5
Great experience
- 1/5
I went to the hotel to check in, noticing that the front desk was busy calling for security dispatch. It was late in the evening and I didn’t feel safe enough to stay there so I ended up not checking in. Unfortunately, Expedia already charges my card and refusing to refund- so I guess I donated my money to the hotel. The area doesn’t feel that safe either and there were nobody on the curb to help unload or at least make sure the guests are arriving safely. I get that the nightly rate might be tempting but I would say, avoid at all cost.
- 5/5
The staff at this establishment were so helpful and polite. They were able to accommodate all of my requests (late check-out, keeping my luggage safe while I went sightseeing before a late flight, and printing me a new key when I forgot mine). The area outside the hotel seemed safe AND the hotel had 24/7 hotel security which eased my mind about being a solo traveler in a new city. I'd highly recommend Cup of Joy coffee shop on the corner for a grab and go breakfast or Crostini and Java a couple blocks up. 10/10 stay here!!
- 5/5
Let me be honest, I’m not an SF local and I don’t feel safe in a lot of areas
- 3/5
The room overall was mostly clean. I found a used eyelash stuck to the comforter, so obviously the blankets are not being washed in between uses. The location is alright, surrounded by lots of homeless and questionable characters. Also, there is virtualy zero sound proofing, so you will hear all surrounding rooms, and they will hear you.
- 5/5
Great stay excellent option for accommodation.
- 4/5
I didnt know how to make the shower water come out from the top, however the staff where quick to show me how to operate it.
- 4/5
Beautiful and newly renovated hotel in SF. The front desk staff Tamar was very helpful and able to get me checked in a few hours early. My room was spacious with a large king-sized bed and modern furnishing. Everything was great except you could hear the neighbor above you walking around as the ceiling was not very sound proof. I'm so glad i brought my ear plugs as they came in handy and blocked out the noise. The Lower Nob Hill neighbor is okay and the neighborhood gets nicer as you walk to Union Square.
- 4/5
it was pretty okay
- 3/5
But value for money
- 3/5
Beautiful vintage charm, but poor Wi-Fi connectivity
- 5/5
Perfect stay, room was clean, quiet, spacious. I was upgraded. Appreciated the bar downstairs and ease. Highly recommend hotel
- 5/5
We liked the historical context and Alfred Hitchcock’s filming of “Vertigo”. Great coffee. The drinks at the bar were pricey. Missed having microwave and fridge in room. Also bathrooms need small shelf for personal products. Great stay overall!
- 3/5
Clean
- 4/5
Really quiet, and comfortable bedding.
- 5/5
Great location and very clean and perfect for a quick work stay
- 5/5
Charming atmosphere. Very kind staff.
- 5/5
Hotel Julian is a gem of a restored hotel where two of Alfred Hitchcock's movies were filmed! From the window boxes of red and white geraniums to the huge rose velvet sectional and tiny but elegant bar and chic eating area, it was very impressive. The location was clean, walkable, and safe. The staff were welcoming and very pleasant. They stored our luggage while we were sightseeing during the day which was such a relief. Our room was small but extremely clean and had a huge TV, very comfy bed, coffeemaker, phone charger, and an enormous walk-in shower with lovely bodywash gel, shampoo, conditioner and lotion. Can't emphasize enough what a cost-effective find this lovely small Hotel is. It's situated on Nob Hill and just a short distance from Union Square.

Room was clean, AC worked (thankfully), but the $30 early check-in fee just to hop on a conference call in peace felt unnecessary. Overall, it’s fine—but I wouldn’t go out of my way to stay here again. Decent bones, lacking brains.

Unfortunately only one elevator that broke down during a weekend. Didn't seem to service our room for some reason. Value spot though!

Great location, staff, and clean amenities. Highly recommend! Will stay again the next time I visit SF!

Bedsheets not changed, had hair in the sheets

That’s the summary. Here’s the detail. We checked in and there was hair all over the floors, on the bathroom towels, and in the shower. We asked for more towels, never got them. Next morning the room service knocked and we said please clean our room once we leave and bring extra towels. They never came back. The elevator broke down during our stay leaving us to move luggage around 5 flights of stairs. We went to leave and there was a swarm of flies in the hotel. Stay away from Hotel Julian.

The staff was extremely friendly and service was amazing. I really enjoyed the charm of the hotel.

Close to transportation as long as you are willing to take the bus. No mini fridge.

The entry door was broken and the hall was cold and windy during breakfast. The personnel helped by bringing a portable heater.

On the first day, there was no heating in the room—I had to call the front desk to request it, which was quite inconvenient. The following day, there was no hot water at all. Again, I contacted the front desk, but even after waiting, the issue wasn’t resolved. I eventually had to switch rooms, which was frustrating and time-consuming. To make matters worse, I left the "Please clean the room" sign on the door, but housekeeping never showed up. No clean towels, no service. I had to call the front desk again, and they only provided temporary towels. The rooms themselves were just okay, but nothing special. The shower was extremely small and uncomfortable. Overall, despite the location, I don’t feel this hotel was worth the money. The service was poor, and the issues I faced should never happen in a hotel of this price range. I wouldn’t recommend staying here.

Great hotel, stayed for over a week, convenient location though not super close to public transit that gets you downtown or to the east bay. But fairly walkable and close to a lot of amenities.

- clean, decently sized rooms - central area, walking distance to many desirable neighborhoods the bad: - building/hallways are really showing their age - no fridge - broken elevator! We had to walk up and down 7 flights to our room. This was only on the last two nights of our stay, but judging from the condition of the elevator I wouldn't be surprised if this was a common occurrence here.

Great little hidden gem in the Heart of San Francisco. Extremely friendly and helpful staff. Great safe location for anybody. Has lots of fun Neiborhood places to eat and drink nearby. Close to tourist attractions. Very clean rooms and quiet. No parking, but very easy to UBER Waymo around town.

The floor in our room was dusty and had someone’s hair scattered around. In our friend’s room, we even found a pair of used underwear left behind. Although housekeeping came during our stay, they only made the bed and did not actually clean the room — the floor remained dirty. Another downside is that the walls are very thin, and noise from neighboring rooms was very easy to hear. On the positive side, the staff were polite and welcoming throughout our stay. We also appreciated that after check-out, we were allowed to leave our luggage at the hotel until the end of the day. Overall, while the staff were kind and helpful, the lack of proper cleanliness made our experience less enjoyable than expected.

Fantastic hotel for the money. Free parking if you can snag it right in front!

The rooms are really dirty, I don’t know unless time floors or surfaces were cleaned. Hair laying everywhere on the floor even in the hairdryer. Hairdryers are dirty and covered in makeup. The worst part is that I found used underwear which was disgusting and really made me doing the cleanliness of the entire room. I was told to just “pick it up and throw it away”, which is gross and unprofessional. The front desk receptionist said she would have the room fully cleaned but that never happened. I was told that this issue is escalated to the general manager but I got no further communication. Also at the checkout we were told that we would get refunded our $200 deposit but today I was charged that $200 again… Seems like the hotel only wants your money. Really poor experience and would not recommend anyone to stay there…

This was a very convenient location for us as we were visiting someone at St. Francis Hospital. Tamer and Angel at the front desk were excellent and had great customer service. In addition, the rooms were very clean and spacious. Highly recommend this hotel!
