Clean room and very close to everything we wanted to see in SF. We would stay here again for sure. Parking is a bit tight but it’s in the city so expected. Great property especially for the price.

Unfortunately Ice machine broken, but nice, quiet area makes it a good choice. Very basic expectations.

The location for us was great for all the things we wanted to do. However the hotel itself really needs to be upgraded. Carpet is old and stained. The mini fridge is old, coffee provided was ok but the pot was old and there was no sugar or creamer provided. Online pics are not as accurate as in person.

Room was clean. Housekeeping came every day! Beds were comfy! Staff was very nice. Very impressed. Would stay here again! Great location and free parking.

Overall it was a great location and I would stay again.

A spacious room in a safe location that was quiet even though close to busy streets. Plenty of restaurants nearby and most things are within walking distance if you are happy to walk 30-40 mins to the bay front. The room was private and the bed comfortable. It was very clean with room service each day and I would recommend it as a great value for money room. Parking is free and onsite and under cover. There is a lift to the rooms if you need. There is a coffee maker but personally I would have appreciated a kettle to make tea. Nothing I didn't like.

The room was excellent, freshly remodeled, clean, very well equipped, and quiet. The exterior parts of the hotel (lobby, elevator) are a bit antiquated. Neighborhood felt safe to me. Overall, I felt like it was a great deal for the price, and my wife and I will be staying there again.

I found the rooms to be sufficient. It was located in a convenient, walkable area. There wasn't as much parking as I think was needed, but I still think way better than what you would get at other hotels. 10/10 would come back here

My second time staying at Castle inn, about 3 years apart. I noticed some new updates in the rooms, it was nice. The gentleman who checked me in was the same as 3 years ago, very friendly. Parking is easy, room is large and clean. I will stay again.

Included free parking is rare in San Francisco and Castle Inn offers that. The parking lot entrances are narrow. It is on the same level as the office about a half story up from the street. The upper parking lot entered from the right side of the property is slightly wider and 7 foot clearance. The lot itself is small and difficult to turn around in. It was doable. Trying to enter with the driveway partially blocked by a car stopped in Broadway damaged my mirror. The lower parking lot entrance on the left side of the property is even narrower. It parks below the office level about half level sunken underground. Its height limit is 6’5”. I did not attempt it with my F-150 (4x4 stock height) The room was clean and looked to have been updated within the last few years. The multiplug under the TV on the desk was not working. The TV and cable box utilized the plugs under the desk. There is a great deli/convenience store one block east and one block south on the same block as the Castle Inn called Cheese Plus. The store prices were high, but sandwiches were reasonable for San Francisco prices.

Honestly... this is a hidden gem. In the heart of the city. Easy to get to anywhere you'd want to go. No frills kind of property. But that's what makes it great to me. Great price and parking to boot. Would definitely stay here again!

Everything they said in the reviews was pretty accurate. Rooms were a pleasant surprise. Very clean with a modern flare. Vintage elevator gets you up and down. Parking was pretty squirrelly but manageable. Close to everything. Front desk was very nice, and the guy had a matter of fact attitude which I appreciated. I would stay at this hidden gem again.

Smooth check in and really loved the location. It’s a quick waymo ride from the hotel to most tourist locations. The room was always clean and we got a ton of sleep.

I stayed at Castle Inn and had a very good experience. The location is excellent—easy access to key areas—and the price is very reasonable for what you get. The property is clean, well-maintained, and felt safe, which was important for me traveling with a motorcycle. Parking was convenient and gave me peace of mind. Overall, a great option if you’re looking for a solid, no-frills stay with strong value. It was a bit noisy at times, but nothing that took away from the overall stay

Great area, centrally located. Felt safe. Room could use a makeover but found it clean and spacious. Fast wifi. Appreciate the microwave, fridge, hair dryer and iron in the room. Would stay again.

For some reason we couldnt get any volume on the tv but we decided not to useit rather than have someone try to fix it for us. I would stay there again fir the convenience and price, but not for a special occasion. We just live across the Bay, and wanted some place to stay so we didnt have to drive across the bridge at night to get home Fit the bill just fine.

There was a hole in our hotel room wall, the door also didn’t shut properly and the staff who cleaned our room left the door open, the toilet also would not flush took us 2-4 times flushing for it to finally go down, several drawers had water damage our car along with several others was also broken into in the parking lot

The man at the front desk was super friendly and very helpful. Room was nice and spacious. The hotel is in a great location, we were able to walk majority of our trip. Felt safe parking my car there however if having to park in parking garage there’s few spots and it’s really tight. The free parking sold me on this property and I’m really glad with the choice. Can’t beat the price! Will be coming back.

Have stayed here before, and we like the location. Free parking is definitely a plus. When checking in, the credit card must have a chip, which was an easy fix for us but may not be for others. The room was clean and quiet but lacking table space. There is more than enough room to add a small table (We stayed in room 338). As eating in bed is not our thing, the writing desk sits directly under the TV, in an odd place for a meal in the room. I called for extra pillows after a knee injury for elevation and was told they didn't have any, even though the sign said to call for extra towels, blankets, etc. Also, the ice machine was empty 3 of the 4 times we attempted to use it. My partner loved the bed; I found it to be too squishy this time compared to last. Good location, quiet and clean, but could use a bit more attention to amenities.

We had a lovely stay! Everything was clean, parking was very accommodating and the staff were very helpful!! Right in the middle of everything this spot is a gem and price can’t be beat! We’ll definitely be back!

Central location, very walkable to what my brother and I needed. Many restaurants and coffee shops close by. Although off a main street, the hotel rooms sit back away from the traffic in a kind of alley way and the room was amazingly quiet at night. Very big queen beeds, high off the ground so might be a bit of a jump for kids or less mobile adults but we had no problem. Great water pressure and hot water. Coffee maker in the room, no breakfast served but that's fine and was not expected. Front desk person was very kind and efficient. Room had a microwave and a large mini fridge with freezer compartment. Our stay was great! The ice machine was broken. Not the property manager's fault, he had it repaired a day or so before, and it broke again. Owner may consider replacing or having a second machine on another level. It is hard to buy and carry around bags of ice in the city, and I like very cold drinks.

Air conditioning worked well and the shower had the best water pressure I’ve ever experienced in a hotel. One ice machine for the entire hotel and it was broke. Weather was in the upper 80’s which is extremely warm for San Francisco and the ice machine didn’t work the entire time we were there. (4 days). Location is good. Not a bad part of town, and accessible to a lot of tourists attractions. So I guess for the money, it wasn’t horrible.

The price we paid we knew we were getting a very basic older hotel and we were good with that. The room was clean, lighting for putting on make up was good, A/C worked, staff at the front desk was very helpful on mapping out the city and getting us into our room. The location was great and safe. We walked everywhere. This was our first time to San Francisco and if we go back I would book here again. The reason I gave 4 stars is the bed was super soft and the pillows were flat and I prefer a firmer mattress.

Castle Inn had a great location. Our family loves to walk and we could walk everywhere! 5 blocks away is the cities best park for kids... it's called Lafayette Playground, and you have to check it out. There's an Acai bowl smoothie shop a block away, as well as a Birite grocery store. We walked over to China Town and North Beach. We even walked to the Exploratorium. A few times we did get tired and took a short bus ride or took the Cable Cars. It was lovely. And amazingly, this little hotel goes back away from the street. So, while there's a little city noise, there's really not much since the bulk of the rooms are tucked back. The only thing that was a little off putting was the loud AC. But I was glad to have it for the one weirdly hot March week we were there. Most times you may not even need it.

Check in agent at the desk was great. The room was not in good shape, though. It was clean, but it had a broken TV (no sound), broken phone, and broken fixtures in the bathroom. When I went to the front desk to report the issues, the door to the check in area was locked and no one was there. I decided to just get on with my weekend.

The only other issue was that the bathroom felt a bit small for my husband. Overall, it was a very good stay, but the service at check-in was not very pleasant. Also, it was disappointing to find insects in the room.

Nice experience. It’s a basic/ typical room nothing fancy, no spectacular views, etc… however the room, the building & location were all clean and safe! Also, a good option If you’re looking for a quiet room to relax & sleep but not far from nice cafes/ restaurants, bars, shops, etc.

Nice property near corner of Van Ness and Broadway. Very nice rooms but walls are a little thin. Group next door on Saturday were very noisy and could hear their conversation easily. Instant hot water which was a nice bonus! Parking is a little tight but loved that it was free! Don't see that often in SF. Has an elevator which was great also. Located near a lot of food and market options on Polk and Van Ness. Great location will stay here again. We had Brazilian the first night and House of Prime Rib the 2nd! Both were exceptional and withing easy walking distance... Used Waymo to travel to the wharf cost for round trip was about the same as parking so a wash either way.

We got a call at 6pm to keep the noise down. It was our 13 yr old son, my husband and myself in the room not being rowdy or partying at all. Quiet time was listed from 9pm-9am. I dud not understand the need for a call but tried to keep our voices down. Which is a shame since the room was clean and everything else was great.

We had a great time! The room itself was nothing fancy but clean and comfortable. The location is amazing! It’s in the middle of the vibrant neighborhood of Russian Hill. We could walk to everything! Highly recommend.

The room needed an upgrade. Old, frayed carpet. Outdated TV. Just an overall older/rundown look to it. The car next to us in the upper parking was broken into- glass shattered. Bed was comfy though! Mini fridge was great. Free parking and location was good. Room was quiet.

Remodeled and clean Couldn't sleep at all. The AC unit is so old that it makes noises constantly throughout the night. Terrible.

Castle Inn solved all expectations. Mine was far above an average stay. The room was comfortable and clean. A slight odor of disinfectant is my only complaint, but how much can I complain about that? Its presence is more assuring than its absence.

Awesome place to stay right in the middle of everything. Staff were great, room was clean, free parking which in huge in San Francisco I would definitely stay there again. It would be my first choice.

Room was spacious & clean with onsite free under or above ground on site parking. The check-in guy was friendly & helpful. Hotel was in a great location within walking distance of Fisherman’s Wharf and Chinatown etc. etc. I would not hesitate to stay here again.

Basic but ok. Handy parking. Helpful receptionist. Rooms dated but was cheaper than alternatives so acceptable. Had fridge, coffee maker and microwave but no crockery or kettle.

This is my 2nd time staying at the Castle Inn. It’s my go-to hotel whenever I’m visiting SF because it’s affordable and closeby to a lot of restaurants, coffee shops, bus stops, etc. The area it’s in is pretty quiet for the most part and very safe and clean! Will continue to keep booking at this place for my future trips to SF!

A decent motel in a fairly central location that won't hit you hard in the wallet. 5 minute walk to cable car stop that will take you to Pier 39 and financial/shopping district. Plenty of grocery shops and food & drink around the motel.

Customer service was amazing! The employee was very kind and accommodating. The hotel itself was good for what you’re paying for and parking is included; where many hotels in the area do not have parking included. However parking is tiny so try not to bring your biggest vehicle! Tight spots and tight turn around spots and if there are no vacancies then there are no extra spots. The room and amenities were good for just resting your head at night and a hot shower. Beds were comfortable, water pressure was great and heated up quickly. The only downfall is we had horrible neighbors and walls are paper thin. We could hear the drunks outside our door at 3:00 am extremely loud and then continued to hear them throwing up through the walls all night. We were just unlucky but the hotel itself was perfect for a quick stay with good and friendly service and comfortable beds.

I like the location. Very quiet and walkable to many attractions. Hotel is very clean. Staff very polite and even let us leave the car after check out for a few hours extra.

Convenient location to Waymo to Fishermans Wharf. Convenient parking. We had a quiet room towards the back of the hotel. Only trouble was that air conditioner leaked on the rug, making a wet, dirty mess.

Hotel had free parking. Restaurants nearby, nice neighborhood. I was checked in by Damon, he was very pleasant and helpful. Would definitely stay there again.

We used ride share for Pier and left the car in the garage. My son stayed a few months ago and walked to the Pier. He's in good shape. Free parking here is a plus. Hotel is good condition for its age. If you like walking and local vibe this is good choice.

Place and room is clean and good, service was friendly and okay but what is annoying is the noise level. I was in room 116, 3rd room from back end of the bldg but street noise is unbearable with window shut and AC on. Ear plug helped some until people above and around the room stomp, drop stuff and slam doors. If you prefer quiet place to rest, this is not the motel for you. I wish they did show the noise level as part of the rating

I always look for a SF hotel where parking isn't an expensive hassle. This filled the bill. Near my appointment, cool neighborhood to explore, wonderful front desk.

Very basic hotel. Not a room you want to stay in other than for sleeping. Old and damp carpet, needed to blast air condition to overcome the smell despite it being a cold day. There is free parking which is a great advantage and it’s very close to Polk Street with its restaurants. The staff were very kind and it was easy to check in. I would recommend it if you’re really just looking for a place to sleep not to stay in and enjoy.

Natalie was the hotel super modern and very inviting, the room was very clean, the location was great, and the parking was easy. What really pushed our stay over the top and made it truly spectacular was the customer service given to us by Damon at the front desk! He was the best! We can’t see enough wonderful things about him and the help he offered us. We would absolutely recommend this property and we plan to stay here again the next time we’re in town.

We enjoyed our stay. The room was clean and spacious. The bed was comfortable. The staff were friendly. And there are some good dining options within walking distance. Along with a Walgreens and coffee options. The parking was tight, as in you need to be able to maneuver i and out of the spaces. Though, it is free. Which is hard to find in San Francisco.

With screaming and physical fights during the entire night between the people in the room above pounding the ceiling over our heads we had no chance to rest at all before having to get up for our meeting the next morning. The violence became so bad that we were afraid for our safety. I don’t know how this place has racked up a 9.2 rating. However they managed it, it’s a scam. Aside from being disappointed with the hotel, I am also extremely disappointed with hotels.com for offering this type of place on their platform. I’ve been a loyal customer for years but after this experience I am not sure if I can trust hotels.come anymore.

Location, location, location! Free parking was the big sell! Walking to major attractions was only twenty minutes away.

I thought a hotel with this many reviews and still a high rating would be a good option, but it did not meet expectations. The building is just run down. Carpets were old and torn in some areas. There was black mold in the window AC vents. Room was small without much night-stand space. Parking was very tight. When I brought the black mold issue to reception for their awareness, they tried to accommodate. He offered to move us to a different room (which had the same problem) or to give me $30 to not write a bad review! (I didn't take it, of course!) To be fair, if you're looking for a room in SF walking distance to the wharf for under $200 a night, this might be as good as you can get. I can't imagine what it takes to upkeep a building in that city. We didn't see any homeless in that area of the city, and were able to walk to Ghirardelli Square.

Overall the stay was great, our room was very clean but the room itself was dated. The beds were comfy and clean, it smelt a bit musty like there is no air flow in the room and the shower knob needed replacing, it took forever for us to get warm water as the knob would just spin around, however for a quick stay we were happy overall. Staff was friendly, love that they accommodated us in the late evening and we were able to keep our car overnight and into the next day free while we explored San Francisco. Great location, close to bus stops and lots of food options within walking distance.

the value for the place is really just incredible. A super reasonable price for a really solid hotel. It’s definitely not a 5 star hotel but it’s easily a top option at its price point. Free parking was also a huge luxury coming from someone who drove into the city. There’s some really great restaurants and bars nearby, plus it’s close to Hot Cookie and Bob’s Donuts if you have a sweet tooth like me. This is definitely a place i’ll be returning to when the time comes.

Saw reviews about the outside noise and they were correct but for the price I cannot complain. Close to the bars and bus stops and a lot of restaurants are withing walking distance. Free parking is a plus is SF. Would definitely stay here again.

Everyone was very nice who worked there. The room was a bit run down but that didn’t matter to me because it was clean! The water pressure in the shower was amazing. The toom was more than sufficient for the good price.

Friendly staff! Damien welcomed us and gave us a map of things to do during our stay. He was kind enough to let us know what areas were not safe to be in. The room was very clean and we felt safe during our stay. Parking was superb! Highly recommend them! Our room was cleaned daily!! Super plus!!!!

We really enjoyed our stay. Our room was spacious and the bed was very comfortable. The carpet was pretty old and needs to be updated, but that’s the only con. Good location, we loved the free parking (but it’s tight to get in). Would stay here again! Great value!

Second time staying at the Castle Inn. While dated, it’s still maintained well, comfortable, and clean. Bathrooms are upgraded, too. You can’t beat the price for the location. I’ll definitely stay there again next time I’m in SF.

Pretty decent experience overall. It definitely felt like an average motel - cheap linens, limited toiletries (only soap and shampoo), mediocre bed, etc. But the location was convenient and felt safe, albeit loud. Most pleasant surprise was actually the blackout curtains! They did an excellent job keeping all light out of the room.

This was my second stay at Castle Inn. I chose it for its proximity to locations we wanted to visit. Parking is free which is a plus but very tight. Television was hit and miss.

Ideal stay in a good location in SF. Room was a decent size, with soft comfortable beds, a refrigerator and microwave and free, safe parking. A small property and quite quiet. Very easy to walk to the sights, but handy for local transportation if you prefer not to walk!

The check-in was wonderful. I received a nice big, clean room with everything I needed for four dsys including a refrigerator and microwave. The staff is so friendly and let me store my suitcase even after checkout.

Great location, very close to nice food venues and shops. The kids had a great time and the location felt very safe despite some of the reviews we never experienced anything negative walking around all day and the early evening. The room is very comfortable and the staff made the beds every day. Would stay again.

The Castle Inn is in a good location, close to some very good restaurants, cable car stop and small market. The bed was comfortable and the water hot. The TV didn’t work so Reception gave us a note on how to fix it, the note didn’t help. Staff then came and couldn’t fix it. Turns out the batteries in the remote were flat. We could walk to Fisherman’s Wharf or take a taxi for US$7. The Inn is in need of an update but that being said it filled the needs of our 3 night stay.

Everything you could expect for a hotel they exceeded the room was spotless updated it was quiet the water pressure was amazing it was centrally located to everything we wanted to do in San Francisco and I will definitely be staying there again

I am a frequent guest to the Castle Inn. It is at a great location for me when I came to visit my relatives in San Francisco. The stuff are very friendly and helpful.

We were exactly located at park garage. There is not lobby or restaurant or any amenities. It's very difficult todescribe the place. Very unsafe. Never see any body at the poor lobby.

Castle in is located in a safe and convenient neighborhood, with lots of restaurants and cafes nearby. The neighborhood is walkable. The rooms are clean and have everything you need there. Parking is included with the stay, though the parking lot is small so best for smaller vehicles.

Wish we could have stayed longer! Can’t beat the price and free parking with what seems to be a good security system. The bed was so comfortable. Shower was hot and good pressure. Spacious room which was not the nicest but very very decent, but you aren’t gonna stay here if you are looking for 5 star hotel. It’s definitely a 5 star motel! Awesome location too with so much within walking distance.

Room was pretty clean, which was a plus. The parking is not great. The bathroom itself is very small, so if youxre a larger person, you might want to try somewhere else. Walls are paper thin. I would try staying somewhere else next time but id goce this an ovet all 7.5.

Castle Inn was safe, clean and economical. Our only complaint was a wet towel was left on the back of the bathroom door. Other than that the room was very clean, it was safe and had free parking.

great spot. would be walkable to any where if SF wasnt a collection of hills. cheap uber ride away from the wharf, china town, coit tower, and the coolest indie book store that will give you the eye if you ask for the hunger games....or any other "main stream" book.

Satisfied beyond expectations

A little gem in the city! I'd keep this one to myself but it's too good not to share. Free parking in SF, ultra clean, a block from dining and stores, amazing shower, comfy beds. It is definitely for those who will spend most of the time sightseeing but still want a safe and comfortable place to recharge. It can be noisy but cities are noisy. If you're on a lower budget, stay here. Save money for experiencing the city.
