Reviews
The hotel staff is generally friendly and helpful, with some exceptions. The rooms are comfortable and clean, but there are issues with air conditioning and noise. The restaurant service and food quality are inconsistent. The hotel's location is convenient for some, but others find it noisy and unsafe due to construction and homelessness.

The next morning, I want to talk to the staff and all they did was say sorry it wasn’t even genuine I also asked the staff member to call cab for me. She said she wouldn’t. She never did waited over 90 minutes.

The property is very nice however it’s a bit dated. Rooms are spacious. Staff is very nice. Parking is very expensive and very limited.

Clean and the staff was very friendly. Very well located and easy to get to and from places. The pillows were a little too soft but other than that it was an amazing stay!

We had a wonderful time in San Diego. The restaurant was outstanding—every dish was delicious, and the chef really impressed us. However, the hotel itself was just okay. It was fine for a stay, but for the price, we expected a bit more comfort and a few extra amenities.

pretty disappointed with this hotel. It is called a luxury hotel but doesn’t even have any snacks or water in fridges, i can hear others flushing the toilet or using water & it would make my water gets cold. I got the suite and i had a view of the dirty rooftop.

Staff was very welcoming. Room was clean and large. Only negative is reservation said city view and our view was an old building across street that was empty, perhaps receiving some rehab. I guess that was the view of the city, but i inferred city view on reservation suggested our room would have a nice view of the city. Probably my mistake. OUR stay at the grant was very nice. We enjoyed it. People were great.

The situation in the us grant is very complicated now, all the hotel have a problems like one poor level ( elevator very bad interior and exterior ) the room 912 very bad with some table close w/ the TV and the lamp too, the hot water in the bathroom some times hot and some times cold in the shower… etc etc etc . So we came from the Peninsula in Beverly Hills and the Wynns in Vegas, those hoteles are 5 stars , US grant can’t get the same rates because the level is not 5 stars hotel. The building is beautiful but we are seeing in the last 5 years how is degrading his level. We sorry about this but we need to think in other options in the future. Thanks

Overwhelmingly luxurious hotel. The location is in the heart of downtown San Diego and within walking distance to the festivities of the gaslamp- bars, restaurants, theaters, shops. The one-off homeless scattered in the vicinity

Staff was attentive and mostly competent. Nighttime we had constant noise, similar to a lumber being dropped on a concrete surface at regular intervals preventing sound sleep. We were in a suite on the 11th floor, and the noise was coming from above us.

We absolutely loved this hotel. The location was perfect within walking distance to the Rady Shell where we were seeing John Mullany and the waterfront in general. The hotel itself was clean and absolutely beautiful. That chandelier! Then there was the food! Room service was some of the very best we've ever had. I have never raved over a charcuterie board before! The bed was super comfortable and concierge was extremely knowledgeable and helpful. I have nothing negative to say. Will absolutely stay there any time I'm in San Diego.

Location is a bit shady as that part of town has seen better times. Valet parking and bell service are excellent. Room condition was good, except for some old food left on carpet. Water pressure so-so. Room orientation very nice. Oddly they have no internet. The gym was nice, a couple of elliptical and a couple of treadmills & free weights. I asked about extending my stay and their reply was to use 3rd party. That was a bit odd. Overall a very nice hotel with few flaws. But dudes, spend just a little for internet … people have work to do, a trip to coffee shop just to get some work done is inconvenient.

This hotel is fabulous! The rooms are clean, spacious, and comfortable. Even though we were in middle of the city, we could not hear any street noise. The hotel staff were top notch. We were able to check in early (which was a surprise bonus) and the front desk staff made some suggestions on things to do and not miss while in San Diego. The location was a little north of the chaos of gaslamp district. It is a little calmer but still walking distance. It is also a short walk to Little Italy. We had delicious drinks in the hotel lounge and enjoyed the relaxed vibe.

From housekeeping to bell staff, valet, and concierge, everyone made sure we had everything we needed and more. A special shoutout to Edie, our server on Thursday, for her warm and attentive hospitality. The rooms were immaculate, and just soaking in the history of the hotel was an experience in itself. We couldn’t have asked for a better stay and can’t wait to return. Thank you to the entire U.S. Grant team for an unforgettable experience!

I liked the overall cleanliness of the property, but it was unfortunately over shadowed by the lack of responsiveness and communication of the staff at the grill and the valet. More detail can be provided upon request.

The hotel is beautiful and the staff very friendly. However, I cannot give it high marks and will never stay there again because of the room. It had only one chair. There was no place for 2 people to sit. One of us always had to either sit on the floor or on the bed while spending time in the room, thus making it most uncomfortable. Totally unacceptable for a 5 star hotel.

I get it, the place is old it’s nostalgic. Nothing special to write home about. If it was me next time I would search for a new, renovated, more up to date hotel. If you are 75yrs old + you may like this for the "history" and that's about it. The hotel is old, and very out dated. For $1k+ a night, you may want to fix the loud room A/C. I say demo and make room for something better. Feels, smells and just is old.

Room is cramped especially the bathroom. Bathroom smallest we’ve experienced in a 5 star hotel. Air conditioning was extremely loud so couldn’t have it on at night so choice of hot room or no sleep. Each day had to ask to have the room cleaned when not done by 5:00 pm.

For a 5 star hotel I’ve never seen such a dirty room, and my room was supposed to be one of the nicer suites. Just awful, dust and dirt everywhere, little pieces of food left behind on the floor, a penny in the bathroom floor by the toilet makes me wonder if they actually cleaned at all? Also the AC unit only allows you to use low on the fan. So disgustingly hot in the room at night couldn’t sleep at all. The TV doesn’t even have all the channels, phone didn’t work to call valet or the front desk. Let’s get into the $100 breakfast, awful food. Small portions and they charge around 30% tip fee for them automatically. $65 a night to park your car in the garage 😂😂. The only thing this hotel has nice is the staff, they greeted us very nicely and took good care of us. All the other things need to be worked on indefinitely. Just awful. Never coming back. Was supposed to be a beautiful weekend with my wife and kids for her birthday, I had very high expectations for this 5 star hotel, but was let down HARD!! two thumbs down. 👎

• property - 5/5 - such a classy aesthetically pleasing hotel - I do wish there was a rooftop area or some sort of outdoor area • hotel room - 3/5 - we loved our hotel room - lots of pillows, comfy bed, the design & layout was beautiful & the bathroom was really nice - the only thing was that the air was a bit stuffy so we had to turn the a/c off & open the window for fresh air throughout the night. • surrounding area - 3/5 - it’s in the city so expect noise & not the best food options. Richard Walkers pancakes was the only place that stands out.

Central location in dead downtown One of the worst 5-stars stays ever! EXTREMELY expensive but not worth it one bit. Tired decor. Locked doors for the street so impossible to get in, had to ring a bell. Was given the wrong room (two singles when a king size was ordered) but they could not give us the right room even after half an hour discussion with manager, since they said it was fully booked (even though on their homepage they ad availability for the said room type) minbars in rooms but they were empty! No turn down service even if that was supposed to have been. Went down to the bar, tired and dirty and nothing (except the price, over 900$ for one nights stay) says 5 stars of this tired hotel. Do NOT stay here
- 5/5
Excellent location, and the hotel is very comfortable. The room is impeccably clean, maintained twice daily, and the restaurant is fantastic with terrific staff.. We experienced an inconvenience with the overnight staff as they lock the restrooms at midnight and do not allow access. The lady at the front desk on a couple of nights was very rude when we asked her to unlock the restroom for us, and she refused in an unfriendly manner. This situation is completely unreasonable.

An unbelievable hotel in a declining area of downtown. San Diego like most California ities is on the decline. I grew up here and remember the days of Horton Plaza and the Gaslamp Quarter and its really declined unfortunately. The hotel is fabulous though.

Everyone we encountered smiled and was friendly and helpful. We mentioned it was our anniversary at check in and they upgraded our room for us. The hotel itself is beautiful and impeccably clean. The room was beautiful and spacious and the bed and bedding were cozy and comfortable. The valet team were so helpful and nice. We had dinner in the lounge in the hotel. Dinner and drinks were fantastic and the vibe was cozy and comfortable. I honestly can't wait to book another stay here!

Excellent excellent service! I cannot stress enough how helpful and wonderful the staff was. We were greeted with our doors being opened up by the valet men. The front desk woman was so kind and explained everything so well! We were even helped when we decided to extend our trip! The grant grill breakfast was to die for! The concierge helped us out with things to do and where to go! He even made us a reservation for our dinner! We loved everything about this place too! It was so beautiful inside and the room was absolutely gorgeous and clean! We were treated with the utmost respect and we really appreciate this place!

This is a beautiful and comfortable hotel. The staff was stellar, both in their superlative care for one’s every need and the privacy and space afforded to guests. The bed was so comfortable and my room had everything I needed.

Front desk checked me in super early which was nice as I had to fly in for a one day conference. This allowed me to change clothes in a nice room vs a bathroom. Overall the hotel is beautiful and my room was very nice. Great bed and condition. My only regret is there is no gift shop to buy snacks

First class in every way. The in house restaurant, the Grant Grill is incredible. Everything in the downtown area is within walking distance.

Hotel was nice if we only stayed inside. The neighborhood has gone down. City needs to spruce up the neighborhood so that the hotel can be worth it's room cost.

This is only a lovely review of the hotel itself. The homeless issue and disgusting smell of pee all over DT SD is a whole other story. Very sad to see another beautiful california city going downhill.

The hotel doesn't have free wifi, the in-room dinning is horrible, the views for the rooms are not city views i paid for a city view and was placed on the 4th fl facing an abandoned building.

Love this hotel...so much history. The decore, location and staff make this an excellent place to stay. Wish they had a pool...that is the only thing negative. This was our 5th stay and many more to come.

The property, the staff, the amenities were superb. We enjoyed our stay. The property is in the gaslamp district. Close to all of the good eateries, not too far from the bay. I would definitely recommend and plan to return.

Would not recommend for the price. Soaps and other toiletries were nice but the property seems dated and the elevators sounded like they would break. If you find antiquated buildings alluring this is the place for you!

The Best part of the US Grant hotel was the friendly and helpful staff. Everyone treated me as if I was a most special guest. The folks at the concierge desk were very helpful in suggesting local restaurants. Each place gave us a unique dining experience.

Beautiful boutique hotel right in the heart of downtown San Diego - which means you take the good with the bad! Which means amazing customer service and front desk staff - surrounded by the homeless and crack heads of San Diego! The walk thru the gas lamp district was eventful north of market street! But that should not take away for the charm of this hotel - I would stay again! Just take a cab.

I’m not sure what makes this part of Marriott’s Luxury Collection. The property’s lobby was nice, but that was the extent. Elevator buttons were missing/broken, rooms were older, the room was dusty everywhere you looked. Our fridge had not been cleaned from a previous guest and so there was a rotten smell in there when we opened it to put water in. Would not stay here again.

Booked the US Grant as we wanted to stay closer to downtown - we also opted for a 5 star hotel hoping to enjoy an extra relaxing stay for the remainder of our vacation. The hotel itself was gorgeous and the service was amazing, however we were woken up at 7:00 AM to the sounds of a jackhammer. At around 3:00 AM a random alarm went off on our floor and the alarm went off for about 10 min - just a loud buzzing noise. We couldn’t figure out what caused it. The next night was equally noisy and we were glad to depart but disappointed that our last days of vacation were tainted by the excessive noise.

Room close to street noise
- 5/5
Excellent service, however hotel hallway to room little rundown

Resturant staff were terrible
- 5/5
This was my second time staying here. The staff are incredibly friendly, rooms very nice, restaurant/bar great to have on site, coffee in the lobby in the morning, decent gym in the lower level, good walking distance from the Gaslight district and also the convention center.
- 1/5
Service in the empty dining room was terrible.
- 3/5
I like the property and stuff. The only problem was with air conditioner wasn’t cooling room. We changed 3 rooms during the stay and the problem still was the rooms are still not cold enough.
- 5/5
This is now our favorite Hotel in San Diego! Everything was wonderful! From checking in, cleanliness, amenities, dining, parking, and checking out. Just note: valet / cost of parking at the hotel is $60 per night.
- 5/5
Perfect short stay. A bit overpriced.
- 5/5
The U.S. Grant Hotel has a lot of history. Love cuz it’s walking distance to the convention center and Petco Stadium. There’s also lots of places to done at.

The hotel is always spotless, classy and the staff is amazing!!! One of my favorite places to stay in the world
- 4/5
The hotel and staff were all fine. Five stars for cleanliness. Not too many services included - an additional charge for everything. Wi-Fi was for members only. Parking was $60/night. This may be the best Downtown has to offer. Location was great.

Nice property very elegant

Room 712 - bathroom smells like a sewer. Seriously disgusting. The heater is the loudest noise you've ever heard so good luck trying to go to sleep with the temperature regulated. You can either have warmth or silence. Ordered room service and they didn't bring me butter with my $8 toast. When I asked them to bring it they said it would take 15 minutes. I can go downstairs and buy butter from CVS and be back in 15 mins. Their lack of staff isn't my problem. Maybe they shouldn't forget basic items if they don't want to come to the room again. The room service bill had an extra item that I neither ordered nor received ($18 bowl of berries) so someone made the mistake of entering something I didn't order and then they didn't even bring it to me. The incompetence is appalling. Final bill was missing the breakfast credit. I had to call back to get it corrected. Phone at front desk rang and rang at 5pm on a Saturday without answer. I called 6 times and let it ring over 20 times before sometime picked up. There's actually more but I can't be assed to detail every but of poor quality, incompetence, and poor customer service for this "Luxury Hotel".
- 2/5
This feels like a 3 star hotel with 5 star prices. Rooms are small, the building and rooms are noisy, everything feels cheap but pretends to look expensive. Bad customer service too.
- 4/5
The hotel is nice but getting old. My favorite part was the bedding.
- 5/5
It is an amazing property. I am glad I stayed there with my family as it was a special experience.

The customer service at US Grant was top-notch. They really know how to make guests feel special and well taken care of. Will definitely stay here again
