It’s was not clean, and it smelled

Booked this room basically to sleep for the night. Unbelievably thin walls. I could hear every single word of the person’s phone conversation way into the night. I couldn’t sleep at all. Probably around 3-4am they finally stopped talking. Not to mention all the sirens ringing throughout the night wasn’t any better.

The place is a little run down and in a not so great area. There was no in room safe, no coffee or ice machine available. There were only two small bars of soap available to wash hands and shower. It was very noisy as there are busy streets all the way around. Staff was helpful and genuine and looking to help and make place better. I believe they understand they need to improve things in order to stay competitive. We just needed a place to sleep and clean up. We were in town for one night to see the baseball game. It's a little bit of a walk, but saved hundreds of dollars on parking and the stay.

Not available addtional blanket @9PM. Hard to sleep b/o noise from out side horrible traffic door side and windows side. So, I didn't sleep not at all. Ice was not available. Toilet clogged. Room smelled baddly. Staff didn't act kindly. It was dangerous situation when I was parking my car for register and pull it back toward main street to go parking lot. This facility look like jail unit, not like sleeping place. You should seriously considered for continue belong to Expedia.com.

People who worked there were really nice but please don’t believe the pictures you see . The property is surrounded by homeless people the whole area is pretty scary to be around . Hotel looks nothing like the pictures … sorry but I would never come back here again . Staff very nice . First time visiting San Diego but I will never return to this hotel

Hotel was a bit more run down than I expected but the room was clean, bed was comfy and service was nice. As mentioned in other reviews there are homeless people in the area, however I found that consistent around all of downtown, not just this hotel.

Unfortunately it wasn’t good. Staff was awful, room as dirty, dirty sheets, bathroom dirty. I don’t know how they are offered here and for the price we paid! And then Hotels.com didn’t help at all too. It was very unfortunate and very bad experience on both ends.

Parking was easy, room was clean, AC kept room comfortable. Staff was awesome. I arrived early in the morning, they let me park for several hours before I checked in. I left very early in the morning, they let me just leave the room key card in my room.

Parking was a pain only 7/8 spaces. What a pain cause it’s right off 163 and I do mean right off. You have to pray no one comes flying off the highway to pull out on the street. Rooms were okay. You could tell they swept the floors but were still dirty. The bathtub had hair in it when we got there.

I read previous reviews about the location & noise. Very correct! Neighborhood dirty with trash thrown about, heavy traffic with exhaust fumes and many homeless smoking their herbs or whatever. Noise level was off the charts. Many suspicious looking people would stare at me when I'd look out the window (which had no screens). Hotel sits on a street with traffic (and contributing noise) going on all around. How many sirens can there be? Did not feel safe to walk out after dark.

This place is just bad. Liked bad bad bad like i stayed there for like two hours just cause i was on the phone. It’s cold, dirty and you can hear everything outside like literally everything. If you really want to rest stay away from this place.

The room is ok, basic with a frig and microwave I just used it for sleeping, showering and changing clothes. It is right downtown that is convenient. Also you can hop right onto the interstate.

The lodge is nothing like the advertising. This location is very loud, quite dingy and dirty. The room was a “nonsmoking room” that reeked of marijuana and smoke. Including the squeaking and terrible bedding. !! Overall I don’t recommend this Lodge.

The vagrants or whatever you would like to call them were living out of this no tell motel and their car. I felt extremely unsafe. The bedding and the bathroom ameneties such as towels were disgusting. I tried to cancel my stay and there is a NO cancelation policy even if you felt that your well being was threatened. DO NOT STAY AT THIS HOTEL

Didn’t have the breakfast left at 0500. Traffic noise was loud. They on top of hotel price made you pay $100 damage fee that is suppose to be returned within two days. We will see if it is. There was an electrical Hume in room started a 0300 and stopped at 0400

Staff was very friendly Door cards had to be reprogrammed every evening when we returned to room. Sirens and loud mufflers all night long. Bed linens had cigarette burns. Bath towels were like sand paper. Long hairs found all over room.

I like the location of this hotel and the service for the reasonable price. The only thing I did not expect and did not like was the shower head which was not installed on the wall. The one I used looked like for disabled people when care givers controlled and moved the shower head to wherever was needed to give a disabled person a through cleaning job. lock on bathroom widow was broken off. no lock on ground level sliding bathroom window! broken towel rack, and when my partner opened a bar of soap it had a long hair stuck to it, inside the packaging, not sure how that happens?! location is loud bc of highway and main roads, and a lot of light.

Th deadbolt on the door was broken off like the room had been broken into, there was no seal on the door, and no seal on the window that backed up to a homeless encampment. I did not feel safe at all and when brought it to the front desks attention they refused to give me a refund because they “didn’t know how”.

The room wasn't truly clean. Walking around the room in my socks, I found the bottoms black (brand new white socks). I through them out as they would never get clean. There were some marks on the bedsheets.

The lobby was locked when I checked in at the window at 11pm while I waited for the staff to check me in a homeless man stood next to me trying to find out if I was traveling alone, he then followed me to my car until I got in and locked the doors. The sheets were dirty and the overall quality of the room were not good. Then during the night we could hear people yelling outside the door well after midnight. When I looked around in the light of day there was a big homeless camp right across the street. I did not feel safe and even thought I had 1 more night prepaid, I left for another hotel.

Went for a couple days with my son. Property definitely DOES NOT look like the pictures on the website. Room was decent, toilet was very wobbly. Not to mention parking if first come first serve, if you don't get in early you have to pay for parking near by. Across the street in an empty lot homeless people have tents set-up, doesn't feel safe at all.

I feel extremely uncomfortable with this stay but I cannot cancel the stay without a refund. So i am force to stay. This place deserves ZERO STARS. Not only is it a dump that smells like someone farted in a trash bag and lit it on fire. It doesn’t offer room service or have vending or ice machines. When I confronted the office about it he told me go walk to the gas station and buy ice. Okay that’s fine I’ll do that. They only sell 10lb bags of ice! As a worker he should have known that why are you sending guest to go buy a 10 pound bag of ice when we don’t have a freezer ! Parking is limited but I managed to get a spot that they said was secure. He said we have a camera monitoring it. However after I had to walk to McDonald’s to find ice I came back and two people were literally smoking from a crack pipe in the parking lot and he said it’s okay they only smoke they don’t mess with the cars. When I went to check out a day early because nothing was as advertised when I booked he said sorry non refundable. I was willing to pay for the one day we slept in the horrid place. The toilet was leaking The AC unit was to close to the bed, had to go ask for additional towels. The sheets were dirty. And u asked to have our room cleaned and the sheets weren't changed. Unsatisfactory.

The hotel was ok and room was a good size and clean. The area around was dirty and lots of homeless. The parking is free but not guaranteed and very limited. If are looking for a good price and close enough to uber this will work. We wont stay here again due to the area and parking situation.

The pics of the building and room make it look nicer than it is than what you actually get The noise from the street is pretty loud in the room, the door to the room doesn’t seem safe, the building hallways are very dated looking, and my bathroom had a torn shower curtain.

We presented our concerns with the staff and they gave us another room, but it wasn’t much better. The hand towels were blood stained, and many other signs of the place being generally unkept.

Parking was limited and difficult to access. Staff were unresponsive when Expedia reached out to address these concerns. You would be better off to stay just about anywhere other than this hotel.

The room was dirty with spiders, holes in the wall and furniture and dirt covered floors. The location is unsafe and nearby the freeway so there is constant road noise. The room looked nothing like the advertised pictures. Sheets had holes in them and there was only one light fleece blanket on the bed. Nothing. This place was horrible. The pictures are deceiving. The fact that it wasn’t gated or protected at all from crazy people in downtown. It was dirty. There were flies and spiders in our room.

Didn’t like the parking situation. A guest parked behind my vehicle which created a big delay in me leaving. Also, the bathroom sink is not located in the bathroom- very strange. And there was a guest there with a dog that was barking constantly, in a room by the stairs.

I rarely leave negative reviews, but my experience at the Downtown San Diego Lodge was disappointing on multiple levels. The room felt extremely outdated and not well maintained — stained carpet, peeling paint, and a musty odor that hit as soon as we walked in. The bed was uncomfortable, and the sheets didn’t feel very clean. Noise was another major issue. Being downtown, I expected some city noise, but this was next-level — loud traffic, people yelling outside all night, and paper-thin walls that offered zero sound insulation. The biggest red flag was the general feeling of lack of security. The parking lot was sketchy, and there didn’t seem to be any real staff presence after hours. I didn’t feel comfortable leaving my belongings in the room. Location is about the only decent thing — you can walk to a lot of nearby restaurants and bars — but for the price, there are definitely better and safer options in San Diego. Definitely wouldn’t stay here again.

The dirty-ness

Location is a good walk for getting to Little Italy and the Pier. The room was exactly what you need to get a good rest and sleep. Nothing fancy, very unfussy lodgings. This place minor updates,nothing impressive,what i call a lipstick update. Good clean, bathroom, bedroom, and bedding. Beware! This property does not have an ice machine nor vending machine on site. The front desk suggested I walk across to the gas station a block away to get what I needed. I was unaware of this before I booked. Also no coffee machines in the room. Urgh!!! Lastly, the parking lot is small and in an effort to accommodate all guests vehicles cars were double parked bumper to bumper. Urgh! I was not able to back out and leave at my convenience. I had to go to the front office, report the car number that I was blocked in by, and let the front desk know that I needed to exit. Then I had to wait for front desk to contact the car owner as well as wait for car owner to come move their car. This took about an extra 30+ minutes from the time I walked down to my car with luggage to leave. Very inconvenient for lodging we will stay away from this lodge. Not priced right.

Parking was free. The view on the backside had trees so that was nice. No bed bugs. The internet didn’t work at all, the bed runners had hair on them, the water would not drain from the sink. There was someone yelling very loudly outside at 2 AM and there were several homeless people around the property.

The curtains and window was super dirty. Burnt holes in the blankets and questionable markings in the walls. The latch to lock for extra security was broken. But what was worse of all was the people above us were making so much noise as if they kept pacing back and forth all night from 10pm till we left the room at 6am! The only thing positive was the lady at the front desk. She was very welcoming and sweet.

Not overall a bad property for price. BE CAREFUL IN THE SHOWER, not only did I fall but my significant other fell in the shower due how to slippery the tub is. Definitely needs a grip matt or something before an injury occurs

Room smelly toweks used too old and thin, not clean. Deposit supposed to be on hold and pending by other hotels then can cancle the transaction so you dont need to pay a few, but this hotel first charged your credit card first then refund so you have to lost the two times covertion rate charged by the bank. The area is not walk in distance to good location

The gentleman at the fron desk was friendly. Microwave was broken and it smelt a bit musty. I'm paranoid about every hotel i sleep in so i generally bring sanatizing spray and pillow cases.

Overall the property was good and the staff was very kind and helpful. I chose this location because of proximity to where I needed to be during my 4 day stay in San Diego.

Oh there is a creepy door thats locked in the room instayed in, on the side a little foom with tiny windows supposably storage.

It was okay. Would I stay there again? Absolutely not. My friend wanted it cold and there were no extra blankets so I froze and got no sleep. There was a bump in my bed and stains. So, I wasn’t thrilled. I plugged in my cell phone and it didn’t charge. Some of the outlets didn’t work and the neighborhood was sketchy. I was thankful my car was still there in the morning.

As soon as we got to the parking lot we noticed so many homeless people camping next to the hotel, the hotel looked run down and old. We walked through the hallway to get to our room , the carpet on the hallway was extremely filthy , we walked inside the room and it was a disappointment, the bathroom smelled like humid, the room was dusty and there was big roaches outside our door. It was hard to find the hotel and the parking was not very spacious. The room looker clean but the bathroom was not cleaner very well there was still hair in the shower. Couldnt use the bathtub really because they didnt have a stopper for the water. I tried to ask for more towels but had to wait until after 8am for when the cleaning ladies arrived.

You can hear everything that is going on upstairs… footsteps to moving things around odd hours of the night…

There are long term tenants and the area is sketchy! Heard fights next door to us every night. The parking is atrocious. Had to wake someone up at 6:30am to move their car. Literally drug deals everywhere and one of the long term tenants was scoping out the parked cars!!

Would not recommend. Very noisy, and felt unsafe.

Photos online are deceiving. This is a family owned business but they seemed like they didn't care. Parking is limited, first come first serve and only a few spots available, had to park in the next lot and pay. The room had a weird smell to it when we arrived, and it looks like everything was "landlord renovated". The water pressure was extremely low and the towels did not seem clean. Location wise it wasn't in that great of a neighborhood but it was walkable to the areas we needed to go. We stayed 1 night for new years eve and regretted it because once we got back after midnight, not only did our key card not work, all the other rooms in the establishment didn't work either so all guests were lined up outside the office to get our keycards redone. They said it's because "our program resets every year on new years". After the front lady redid our keys once, it still wasn't working and my partner had to go down 3 times until they gave us the master key to get it. Definitely did not feel safe and would never stay here again. Reviews are all bad, please listen to them and do not stay here.

The location of the Hotel was good

I booked three rooms for three nights and ended up staying only two nights. When I asked for a refund for the third night, the attendant refused to issue a credit. I did not appreciate that at all. Total rip-off....

Basic hotel. Convenient to the park.

Perfect budget motel for work. No frills it is all about a cheap nights stay with good wifi. Central to the San Diego area. Drive in drive out. Price price price. Not a luxury in motel not a casual hotel. But if your needing a place on budget and central to San Diego downtown and close to everything not a bad place. But it is in proximity to the homeless but I would stay there again for work.

The biggest scam in the city. There was a lot of mystery stains all over the walls, lipstick on the rod to open the curtains, pieces of hair found when untucking the bed sheets on the first day. Not even the furniture was wiped down, it seriously looked like all they did was make the bed and wipe down the restroom sink faucet. When I used the restroom, I noticed the toilet paper was stamped and thought it was to make it look fancy… until I realized it was reused toilet paper from the stay before and there was indeed a poop stain in the side of it. Then to try and relax and turn on the tv, the most recent searches were “sex” and so many other inappropriate things. To top it off, every time I left the hotel, there was homeless people just chilling on the stairs playing music until 2 in the morning. Just spend the extra money if you want safety and cleanliness. I only lasted a day. That place definitely made me a germaphobe.

The rooms were very nice and clean. I liked how cool it looked inside like homie. The only thing is the view of the homeless outside but besides that it was nice. They had lots of tv channel options. Will stay here every time i come visit from now on.

I was deeply disappointed by our stay at this hotel. The pictures online were very misleading and did not match the actual condition of the property at all. The room itself was far from clean: the bed sheets were dirty and had hairs on them, which was quite disgusting. The bathtub was also dirty and had hair (including pubic hair) in it, which was off-putting. The parking situation was inconvenient, and the surrounding area felt unsafe. There were many homeless individuals camping in tents around the building, lingering nearby, which made us feel uneasy. Overall, it was not the experience we imagined, and I would not recommend this hotel to others.

Checked in late, my key did not worked. Room front door frame broken, looked like it was kicked in and couldn't latch and secure my door. Homeless camp right next to my window. I had reserved three nights, needless to say i checked out the very next day and went to another hotel.

The price is good for what you get the only thing is that if you look closely some of the towels are dirty the mirror was so dirty and full of spots that I didn’t know where the came from and the parking is not the best two cars per parking space so if you were in front and there was a car behind you. You wouldn’t be able to leave until the person behind you left if your able to spend a little more money than I recommend it but if you need something for 2 or 3 days this hotel will do
