Pendry San Diego

I am so glad that I got to spend time here this weekend. The hotel is calming and immaculate. The gym is one of the nicer facilities I have experienced at a hotel as well (along with the pool and spa). The text feature worked well to get an extra bathrobe and towels the first night, and there are thoughtful touches like chocolates and a Bluetooth speaker in the room. There is also an espresso machine in each room. I would love to keep coming here for any future trips to SD.

Overall, we had a pleasant stay, but there were a few disappointments. Given the standard of the hotel, I would have expected a better level of service, as some members of staff appeared somewhat inattentive and lacking attention to detail. The room was comfortable, but unfortunately quite noisy. At times it sounded as though there was a bowling alley directly above us, which affected the overall experience. The parking was more expensive than the car rental cost ! That said, the hotel has many positive qualities, and with a little more attention to service and guest comfort, it could be excellent.

One of the best hotels I’ve ever stayed in. Everything was perfect from beginning to end, and the details were really well thought out. The staff was incredible and went above and beyond to create a good guest experience. Any time I had a question, I had answers within minutes, and it really felt like everyone working there wanted to make sure my stay was special. Kathy at concierge was especially incredible and I’m thankful for all her help during my stay! The hotel has a fleet of Cadillacs which you can use for up to four hours during your stay, which really came in handy as I didn’t rent a car. Driving along the beaches was one of my favorite parts of my trip. On top of that, the location is perfect. I came for two concerts at petco park and being walking distance to the venue was invaluable. I couldn’t say enough positive things about this hotel. And I truly can’t wait to be back someday soon!!

Great location, incredible staff. The hallways are a bit dated and shabby but the rooms very clean and modern. The pool area is lovely but get there early if you want a chair near the pool. Restaurant and bar area is very nice.

Perfect location for petco park which was why we were there . Food choices are limited but there are a lot of restaurants in walking distance . Parking is expensive overnight but most of the parking lots down town are as well. Didn’t use the pool or the gym this time . Room was very nice with good view of the city .

The staff is extremely helpful and takes initiative for your needs. The room is well laid out and the bed is very comfortable.

Everyone was great and very helpful to our needs. We were being help and they offer extra amenities in our room to make our stay convenient and pleasant

Overall, the hotel itself was great, but the service fell short. There were multiple instances where staff members were chatting and laughing among themselves while guests waited to be acknowledged, which made the experience feel inattentive and unprofessional.

Staff were friendly and pleasant. Parts of the room were a bit worn. Chipped doors. Hallway had trash on the floor. Otherwise a pleasant stay.

Location only I travel a lot. This hotel really puzzled me why charges as 5 star. Room smelled unpleasantly. Hideous design of the rooms. We couldn't stop laughing why shower room has clear glass almost in the middle of the room in front of the bed. Don't believe me? Have a visit. It's hilarious. There are better hotels in 5 min walk from there. Ah also odd that you have to pay to go in sauna. Pool area is bellow average. There are a lot of weird and overpriced things in the hotel. Thanks God there is The Hotel Coronado I booked as an insurance so we left there.

This is a "boutique" hotel. We arrived at 2pm and they told us we couldnt get our room until check in 4pm. They have a bar/lounge and a restaurant right in the same property. We thought ok lets hang out. Nope. Restaurant was closed. Bar/lounge didnt open till 3pm. To me thats inconvenient and for your guest benefits maybe they should be open earlier than 3pm. They said we will txt you when you can check in to your room. We left to eat. 5pm rolled around, no text so we walked back to the hotel to ask if we could finally check in. So much for communication. Our room: initially looked nice. The mirror above the bed was dirty, something splashed on it, on the head board as well as on the TV. Layer of dust on everything, i.e. coffee maker and lamps on nightstands. We booked for 6 days. Tell me why they dont have any dressers or drawers? Two ppl living out of our suitcases because we couldnt unpack anything. The nightstand, two tiny drawers that were also dirty, hairs and other debri in them. We decided to head to the pool. 5:30pm we head upstairs to the 3rd floor, gonna grab some drinks and hang out by pool. Nope. Bar already did last call. We were told maybe if we went to the counter the bartender might still be able to make us a drink. Just does not make sense any timing this hotel has. 6 days, housekeeping came in everyday, the mirror, tv, headboard, NEVER cleaned and Yes front desk said they would take care of it they did not. Food/restaurants were good when open.

We also had issues with room service and did not receive some of the items we ordered, and they did not bring them until almost an hour after we were already done with our meal. The front desk manager Quartz was very nice and tried to be very helpful but unfortunately, those efforts were too little and too late (through no fault of her own). I doubt we would stay at another Pendry hotel again.

We had a great time at our stay here. Our room was stylish and well appointed and the staff was both attentive and down-to-earth. The breakfast at the connected restaurant was great too. Parking downtown can be difficult, so I would stick with valet if you can. I would stay here again in SD.

The front desk manager was a pleasure to deal with. We are Elwood Members at the Pendry in Newport and we were do impressed with how we were treated, the staff and the beautiful room we stayed in. Property was small, pool was small. This is not a luxury hotel by any means. Lobby has two couches to sit on and were always taken. Closed most of the time due to kids popping in pool.

Short stay for us, but will be back! The room was very comfortable, I must buy the pillows! Bath products were top notch, shower was great. Gym looked amazing but we didn’t get a chance to try it. Bar was good, good service. Breakfast was delicious, fast friendly service.

We love this hotel. It's our 2nd stay and it was fantastic both times. My only complaint is they shut down coffee service at 8am. I hope someone from their team reads these reviews and makes the simple adjustment. It's the little things that make a difference in your stay and that was kind of a buzz kill. Otherwise stellar hotel.

The room was perfect, the shower soap, and lotions smelled so good I bought some to take home. Beautiful hotel and easy to walk around gaslamp without need for uber. Walkable to train and trolly also! The hotel bar was very classy and staff went above and beyond!

I’ve never heard such an excuse from any hotel before. When we expressed our frustration, we were told that “American Express cardholders get late check-out,” which apparently caused our delay. That explanation made no sense to me — how does someone else’s late check-out justify another guest’s delayed check-in? Eventually, they apologized and offered us drink vouchers, which I appreciated, but the overall experience still felt poorly managed. I just wish the staff had handled it with more professionalism and accountability.

Location was spectacular, staff was so friendly and attentive. We felt super safe and taken care of while we stayed. The view from our room was so nice to wake up to. The only thing that could have been better was out purchase of the trolley tour tickets. The concierge was not very knowledgeable. We got told the wrong times of the trolley pick up and was given wrong directions.

Decent hotel, but the suites require more attention to detail when it comes to cleaning (poor cleaning when it comes to the shower glass) and the suites and common areas (residential level hallways) require extensive renovation, especially for being one of the top rated Pendry Hotels.

We live locally and had just a one night stay at the Pendry. It was a lovely treat! The staff was professional, the room was well-appointed, and we enjoyed our stay. We would definitely come back for a weekend get-away as being in the hotel felt like being on vacation.

We always stay at the Pendry if there’s one in town, I would just say-know your repeat guests & stay consistent especially on weekends when your pools gets crowded! On the whole a great trio & we will definitely be back!

The pendry doesn’t disappoint. We came for a birthday weekend and had a blast at the Sunday pool party. Being in the heart of gas lamp is perfect. You can drop your car and walk everywhere.

I had an emergency, we had a medical event abd then a death in our family, and needed to change the dates of my reservation, or a refund. I realize the likelihood of a refund would be nil so I requested to move my dates so as to not lose $1600+. The refused because I had booked through hotels.com. I am a Platinum member at Hotels.com and cannot believe this is the outcome. I will never stay at the Pendry again and will continue to share this experience with everyone I know. Myself and folks in my industry stay in SD often, Pendry will most certainly never be on the list again.

I’ve stayed at most every hotel in the Gaslamp District and the Pendry disappointed on so many levels. Heavy resort fee with little offered. Checked in, no bell service offered. $65 parking is ridiculous but not out for the area. But the service was so “uneven” and indifferent. Small room in good shape, decent bed, only one bathrobe, but just overall not a 5 star experience. Pool was packed and the only open seats were reserved. Prices outrageous in the mini bar and no option to put anything in there as they charge $100 fee to empty it so you can chill your own. Again, high expectations and low results. I would recommend almost any of the other high end hotels in the area over the Pendry.

The Pendry was an excellent choice. It’s located in the heart of the Gaslamp District of San Diego and offers a plethora of dining, shopping, and nightlife options! Will definitely be back!!

The staff is amazing. If you’re in town for any type of convention that is being held at the San Diego Convention Center, this is the place to stay. It is walking distance and very convenient.

The location of the property was excellent with a variety of restaurants and bars within walking distance. The staff were extremely hospitable and tended to every need and want. The stay was an incredible and relaxing time with the staff as the highlight.

W had a nice time, staff was helpful. Great pool scene. I was unfamiliar with the concept of the “weighted” fridge mini bar (remove an honor bar for greater than 60 seconds to make room for your own water bottle, you are charged for it, whether it was opened or not. This is printed in fine print on the honor bar menu, stashed behind all the honor bar items. Throughout our stay we removed more items to make room for yummy leftovers from San Diego’s lovely Michelin star restaurants. So even though we put back all our unused mini bar items at the end of our stay, the “smart” bar still charged us for all of them. Also the elevators are confusing. Nice water pressure. The pool menu was decent, we had fresh oysters on half shell and fruit by pool-great snack. It’s pretty spoiled to say I won’t go back to such a nice hotel, but that mini smart bar thing ticked me off. It was sneaky. If the WEF designed a mini bar, this would be it. Staff was very friendly-everyone of them.

The property, room, walkability and amenities were wonderful but the noise at night and evidence of homelessness was unsettling.

The pillows. Glorified 3 star property. Lobby under construction. Overpriced rooms, overpriced parking, poor value. Broken clothes steamer. Awkward.

Not a 5 star hotel. Hidden fee; unclear if it’s double charge. Close to $50 per night additional fees per day that’s was not disclosed on Expedia.

Great location and amenities

It is very loud in the hallways. The doors all slam shut and make your whole room shake. The bathroom situation in our room was super odd. It in the corner of the room but not a separate area. its enclosed with glass that did have a curtain to conceal the shower area. The sink in tiny! we had to keep alot of our thing on the floor under the sink.. The bed was very comfortable. service at Provisional was not very good. Very slow to be seated and to be served. Food was just ok.. The bars had great service and were quite lively. The front desk staff was super friendly and helpful.

As always, staff was amazing always very kind treating you with the utmost respect car charging was amazing. They actually have car chargers on site. You just have to let the valet driver know amazing property.

I enjoyed everything about the hotel except for the fact that the pool bar closes at 6PM! I understand seasonal staffing, but if the pool area is full of guests, why shut down instead reallocating whatever resources necessary to mee the needs of your paying guests? I am not looking for kitchen staff, but a single bartender can serve a limited beverage menu until the sun sets at the very least.

I had reserved 3 rooms for 2 nights each. My colleague got sick and was not able to travel. I tried to cancel that reservation and asked for credit for a future stay and the hotel insisted they could not consider that. I asked for consideration and they refused. Very unfortunate.

Amazing hotel

Have free coffee available! Was here for business so it was super easy to get rides. Utilized the marina for my morning walks! I did a spa treatment before heading out. It was amazing! Staff super helpful, I love staying at the Pendry.

Good room- we have stayed before. Clean. Poor, rude service. Not accommodating. Not at the level of 5-star.

This hotel will charge you for every breath you take, an additional $50 per night that’s a hidden fee, they charge $60 per day for valet. All sorts of hidden fees here. The staff has no shame in charging you these fees

I’ve called twice about the room door that I had hard time opening. Nothing done. Only coffee available in the room. No tea. Definitely not a 5 star property. Quality went done for the last few years. What a shame. Pendry used the one of my fave hotels in SD.

Great hotel in the heart of SD. Very walkable to all the best spots like the Gaslamp, civic theater, seaport village, Petco Park, etc. The roof-top pool area is also definitely a highlight. The staff seemed a little stressed, but that may be a given when working in a busy urban area.

The Pendry San Diego offered multiple spectacular experiences. From top tier dining, to the a luxurious pool, to the gorgeous and comfortable room, every thing was absolutely perfect. The friendly, helpful staff went out of their way to make every experience memorable and special. Olivia was a saint. We’ll definitely be back!

Lovely city centre hotel, plenty of cafes and restaurants nearby.

Highly recommend! One of the best hotels I’ve stayed at in San Diego, with easy walking access to the convention center. Nice pool area with good service. A minor issue was the men’s locker room in the Pendry Spa—it could have been better maintained throughout the day. When I visited in the evening, towels were on the floor, one toilet was clogged, and most lockers were unstocked (missing robes, towels, hangers). For the price, I expected a tidier space.

I stayed at Pendry Newport and was given the best possible upgrade. This hotel in San Diego was almost opposed to giving an upgrade. Said that they charge for that service and thwn finally gave me a Harbor view room. Terrible service from front desk. Beverly Hill Hotel gave me a bungalow. And L’Ermitage extended a beautiful room as did Newport. San Diego was such a disappointment. Beware the neighborhood

Price: way too overpriced for the advertised star ratings. Rooms are very small, no balcony option rooms (except for one suite) communal corridors look like old apartment building corridors

Breakfast starts at 7 though they run out of coffee at 6:30. The front desk makes limited effort to resolve discrepancies.

Pleasant stay

Great location with great staff. We were always greeted with a smile and if we needed assistance with anything. The small things that make you feel welcome helps to add to the stay. The concierge was great, gave us great recommendations that only locals and popular restaurants and bars. Would definitely recommend and plan on visiting again.

This was a great choice for the Gaslamp area of San Diego. Would stay there again!
