Reviews
The hotel is highly praised for its beautiful property, excellent service, and great amenities, making it a popular choice for families and couples. However, some guests have expressed dissatisfaction with certain aspects such as slow service, high prices, and maintenance issues in the rooms.
- Beautiful property with great facilities
- Excellent service from the staff
- Slow service at restaurants and pool
- High prices for rooms and amenities

Requested 1st floor for pet friendly and recovering from broken ankle. Front desk said none was available , when clearly numerous rooms were.

Great resort and overall property! The staff was very nice and responsive. Their primary restaurant Amaya had a tasty breakfast. Beautiful landscaping with a lot of activities for everyone. We ordered room service and the chocolate strawberries and charcuterie board were great! We later ordered dinner (salmon and the smash burger). The salmon entree was very salty and the smash burger was not cooked well. Suggest you to go the restaurant for dining. We also had an issue with the wine opener they provided but they immediately sent up someone to replace the opener and stayed to open the bottle for us.

The room was clean and well-appointed, with a comfortable bed, quiet atmosphere, and a pleasant view. Staff were courteous and responsive to requests, though some interactions could be improved for consistency.

This hotel is gorgeous! Feels super luxe and vintage at the same time. Beware that room service is pretty expensive with taxes and the room service delivery fee. Other than that surprise, it was truly wonderful!

Anil was ABSOLUTELY WONDERFUL. There was some slight confusion with our reservation and he made it his goal to not only make sure we were satisfied, but treated us like royalty. I am so impressed with not only the property, but the customer service and the absolute determination to make sure we were more than satisfied.

Unforgettable time at Fairmont. From the moment you walk in, to the moment you leave; the red carpet never leaves your feet.

One hour after my arrival in the room, a person who identified as a staff member entered to check the food items in the refrigerator and the different liquors. This seemed strange because she should have checked before my arrival, and when the person left, I opened the refrigerator and saw it had fewer items than when I had entered. I did not purchase any items, and I reported this irregularity at the time of checkout.

The facilities and the staff were great, especially Janie. She went over and about every time we saw her. We loved the area, although a bit of distance from La Jolla, it was still incredible. We found the price of the valet parking very steep

Always a great stay. Food options could be better with a few basics - but Live this place. Romantic and one of the best So. Cal hotels. 2 days is not enough and 4 is too many - so that leaves 3 nights.

This property overall needs a major renovation as it’s very old and outdated in all respects.

We stayed here three nights while visiting colleges. Our check in experience was not good - we were not given a map of the property or explained what sort of activities and amenities are included in the additional $70 a day. We booked through Expedia and were not aware that this property has valet parking only, which is an additional $70 a day. So just be aware that on top of your daily room rate there is an additional $140 fee plus taxes. We’ve stayed at a few other Fairmont properties and found the staff, services and overall atmosphere much more welcoming and more of a 5 star hotel experience. In my opinion, the total cost of the stay was not worth it.

Beautiful property, glad we stayed but when you spend the kind of money that it takes to stay at a property like this you expect perfection and we didn’t get that. And sadly, it was just the little things. We had to call and request water, there was only one coffee cup and one coffee pod in our room for morning coffee, etc. However, the staff was amazing and attentive, the food was fantastic and the grounds couldn’t have been more beautiful. You know going into a Fairmont property that everything is going to be wildly overpriced but usually it’s not the thing you walk away from the experience thinking about. I guess better luck next time.

Outside of your room - EVERYTHING costs additional money (kids club, water at the pool, tennis courts needed to be rented)- so I understand that that some of these items should be additional but it’s a bit cheap to do that - there was also not enough activities for kids (I have a 10 year old boy) and they could do better to have more activities

A lot was wrong with this stay. Particularly bad was housekeeping which was obvious when we found used kleenex in the drawers day one. We were always short towels and products and the “cleaning” was minimal. We paid for 3 rooms with fire pits and rarely could get them lit. We also waited an unreasonable amount of time for room service. Almost everyone was friendly except the concierge. The spa was good and staff at Amaya was super but the whole place was understaffed for the holidays and couldn’t pivot around bad weather, a private golf outing that required secret services and bomb checks for all vehicles. The pool was a garbage dump with no staff. I would not recommend this for the price. Over promising and way under delivering!

My family and I stayed in a one bedroom suite for the Thanksgiving holidays. It came complete with living room, dining room table, kitchenette, 2 bathrooms and 2 Queen sized beds and 1 Queen sized pull out bed. To our pleasant surprise, it was impeccably decorated with Christmas thistle, stockings on the fireplace mantle, and even a Christmas tree with decorative wrapped boxes underneath. Small adorable holiday displays were everywhere, toy trains, reindeer, a mailbox to Santa, etc. The staff were hospital and professional. My kids also had fun skating in the glice rink while the adults sat around our reserved fire pit with s’mores and hot beverages. I highly recommend the Fairmont Grand Del Mar as a magical getaway near San Diego.

Beautiful setup with golf course and facilities (pool) Service is terrible! Doesn’t justify the price point. Hotel price is similar to luxury properties but service is nothing close to that. Sometimes calling the front desk isn’t even possible because they don’t pick up, and getting service to the room takes forever

I love being surrounded by greenery and getting to be able to participate in feeding the horses... and hike on premises. The beds are also very comfy. The room that we stayed in had stains in the carpet and some of the furniture was dated. I wish I would have maybe upgraded the room to get a better view but the first time we came we had a great view and didn't think to upgrade. All together it is a nice place to stay but not sure if it's worth the price.

Awful experience for a $2,000/night suite. Housekeeping was very sloppy - not vacuuming, straightening the room up, or doing any more than making the bed and replacing towels similar to a motel. Food was very expensive and low-quality, as was the extremely slow service in the restaurant. The equestrian center was closed due to construction. Half of the requests I made - if I needed towels, cutlery, housekeeping within a certain time range, etc. - were either ignored or required follow-up. Management did not respond to my complaints for several days by which point our stay was almost over. The property is beautiful but the service level was horrific for a 5-star hotel. Do not stay here unless your expectations are very low or you got a great deal on a room rate.

Facilities are incredible. The gym is well appointed for someone who lifts. The dual-pool setup with adults and children. The suites are very spacious. The grounds are also beautiful, but my absolute favorite grateful is the hike of the back. After a mile or so, you're in the nature preserve, which has 10s of miles of trails for hiking and mountain biking. It's a bit of a maze on the inside. I eventually found walking around the outside was easier to get to most locations. It'd also be helpful to have some silverware already in the rooms. I would also prefer a standard noon checkout.

This is a beautiful dog-friendly resort. Customer service was wonderful. Our main criticism had to do with our room. There was a large stain on the bed bench and random stains on carpet (mentioned both to front desk shortly after checking in). The room otherwise was well-appointed and comfortable. And we will definitely be coming back.

We stayed here two nights for a large wedding. The property and grounds are gorgeous. The rooms are beautiful. Our room was never cleaned during our stay. It seems like they were not well prepared to handle such a large group of people. There were long lines and a huge wait to check in and out. The wait was 45 minutes to get our car from valet. They charge $70 for overnight parking and don’t offer the option to self park. Over all it was a wonderful stay. They just need to do a better job at staffing.

Outstanding accommodations, staff, customer service, food, and although it is expensive… It exceeded our expectations and made my daughter's 50th birthday celebration a memorable occasion! The entry, lobby area, and exterior grounds are nice. The bathtub plug was broken when we arrived in the late evening. I have a painful back, so I wanted a bath before bed. The manager would not give us a different room with a working bathtub. No one came to repair it, so I complained for several hours until she finally switched our room to the 2nd floor. It was a big hassle for an over-priced $800.00 per night room on a Monday night in late November. The decor throughout the hotel is old lady-grandma style. It needs to be more modern and hip. The hallways are creepy as if you are on an old ship with low ceilings. We will not come back here.

Dining at Addison, a 3 Michelin-star restaurant, was truly a highlight of our stay. Chef William Bradley’s artistry was evident in every dish, creating an experience that was beyond just a meal – it was an unforgettable culinary journey. Our time at the pool was equally fantastic. The poolside service was top-notch, and it made our afternoons so enjoyable. The staff across the resort were super friendly and attentive, enhancing every aspect of our stay. The amenities offered at the Fairmont Grand Del Mar are beyond words – every detail has been considered to ensure a luxurious experience. The grand social area with its live band and charming lighting created a quaint and inviting atmosphere, perfect for unwinding in the evenings. Overall, this resort exceeded our expectations in every way, and we can’t wait to return for another wonderful family getaway.

Overall excellent but I don’t like the parking. There is no self-parking option. Also the valet parking is too expensive.

We recently stayed 7 nights at the Grand Del Mar and had a wonderfu trip. We had an issue the first night but staff were so helpful in resolving - special thanks to Christian. Irene at the Concierge desk was amazing in bookings and recommendations. Property is stunning and facilities great - try the archery. They had a fantastic guitarist (David) who played and sung by the pool at the weekend which was very relaxing.

NEGATIVES: 1) ANTS! I told the front desk twice and they did NOT offer to move us to a different room. They did not offer to compensate us in any way. They said they would get housekeeping to address this. The next day the ants were back. What other bugs are there that we don't know about! I got the impression that there is a shortage of cleaning sta..2) Resort fee is a great way for the property to make extra money. I have stayed at much nicer properties without a resort fee. 3) Meals in their restaurant are expensive even for a hotel. Furthermore, waitstaff could do a better job. For example, waitstaff asked how breakfast was. My husband said "good". Waitstaff turned and walked away before I could answer that mine was not. In summary, cleanliness issues were a major red flag and some of the staff's indifference was problematic.

Rooms were large and the family pool area was great. Rooms feel a bit tired.

Cons- Had 6 tacos by the pool for 72 bucks not including tax and I have had better at any other places. Half of them were torn on the bottom of tortilla. $70 parking +$ resort fee (including SD & OCC fee) per night. Not sure it was worth it, as the both adult pool and family pool were disappointing small. The jacuzzi by family pool is less than 10 feet in length that made me go "what the.."

I travel all over the world and I can honestly say that the Fairmont DelMar has the best customer service. From the moment you walk in until you leave you are greeted by warm folks who work at the property! We love staying here!

I enjoyed my time at the resort. The water pressure was great in the shower. The bed was quite comfortable. The food is a bit expensive. The staff were very nice and friendly. We went during the week, so it was very peaceful and quite. I liked that it was away from the city.

First time here. Can’t wait to come back :)

Not only was the service horrible, for example, I had trouble finding an employee many times. The worst part is the hotel charged me double by accident, and when I looked at my card and noticed the charge I called the hotel. The hotel responded by saying, “Oh, our mistake. Contact your bank. There is nothing we can do about it.” I will not be booking with the Fairmount again.

This was a great family getaway for a birthday celebration. The whole family had a fantastic time, including activities such as horseback riding, trail exploration, archery, and enjoying the kids’ club and all the amenities. It’s a wonderfully relaxing location, and we will definitely be back.

Everything was beautiful, the bed was quite hard unfortunately and the room was dusty.

still selling internet packages a high price hotel, and at the rooms phone not receiving signal well, so it was challenging to communicate with the world. we stayed for 4 nights, we wanted to leave only 1 hour late on the day we were going to check out, but they wanted a high price for that hour.

We have had many wonderful meals at the Amaya over the years, and our server - Vladimir- is possibly the best in the business. However our big meal, not serviced by Vladimir- where we had 9 guests- had the most awful service. It was about what they couldn’t or wouldn’t do instead of what could be done. If you go to the Amaya, keep your fingers crossed that you have an experienced and professional server or your better off getting in-n-out.
