Reviews
Hotel Gibbs is a historic hotel with a prime location near the River Walk in San Antonio. Guests generally appreciate the cleanliness, comfort, and affordability of the hotel, as well as the friendly and helpful staff. However, some guests have complained about the firmness of the beds, the smell in some rooms, and the limited parking options.
- Prime location near the River Walk

- Beds may be too firm for some guests
- Limited parking options and high parking fees

Great hotel and convenient location. Would definitely stay again.

My stay at Hotel Gibbs was excellent. The location could not have been better. It is literally just steps from the the Alamo, the Shops at Rivercenter, and the Riverwalk making it incredibly convenient to explore downtown San Antonio. The customer service was exceptional, with friendly and attentive staff throughout my stay. The area felt safe and welcoming, and despite being so close to major attractions, the hotel was quiet and peaceful. I would definitely stay here again and highly recommend it to anyone visiting San Antonio.

Shower floor was mildewy. There was a washcloth on the lobby floor when we checked in and was still there when we left the next day. No parking, had to valet, $47 for a day.

Everything was great! Friendly staff and nice comfortable rooms. Definitely staying there again.

Perfect spot!! The riverwalk is like a 5 minute walk and love the Alamo right across!

We love staying here! Even with the construction going on across we slept in pretty good! The Almo room was a little dirty when we arrived, lots of dust and hair on the floor. That was a first for us!

The room was dirty the flor stained, the sheets were stained with paint I imagine with makeup, lipstick or something, the shower with something slimy looked disgusting. I went downstairs and I talked to Jonh, his answer was I’m not the housekeeper I don’t have any control about that. I asked to speak with the manager, his answer was she is not here. I said can you please change me to another clean room, his answer was we don’t have no rooms available, I said I don’t believe that and he raised his voice and he told me I front of the people are you calling me a liar, I said I never used that word he said yes you did. I went to my room and I started chatting with a representative of Expedia, the lady was nice and she tried to help me the best she could. She called Jonh and he told her if she wants to leave I wait for her to check her out and I give her a full refund, at that point he wants me to kick out from the hotel, I told the lady the only I ask is a clean bathroom and bed to rest. I think if you pay for a hotel room, they need to provide a clean room right? I didn’t leave because it was almost 1 in the morning and the other hotels if you reserve because is the next day your check in is a 4pm. We stay in the room, we take off all the sheets from the bed we put sweaters and we sleep with no blankets. Never going back to that place… worse experience ever.

My check in was at 3:00 but I arrived two hours early and Ms. Michelle help me to get in a room I could check in early in. She was pleasant to speak with and the rest of the stuff was also respectful and helpful too. They made sure I had everything I needed while on my trip.
- 1/5
My room was not clean, the sheets and pillow cases had blood, I was so disappointed and disgusted, they didn’t have housekeeping so to fix the problem was to give me clean sheet so I could change the bedding. I checked out and I am never going back.

Amazing staff! Room was mostly clean except under the bed. There were some candy wrappers and small pieces of crumbs just underneath the bed. Rest of the room was very clean. Loved the wine bar just downstairs! Amazing wine! Good breakfast. Wish they had a pool though.. Other than than that.. great location and would absolutely stay again!

Great location for downtown SA (right next to the Alamo), friendly staff, great breakfast to kick off the day. Our room was also ready before noon which was a nice surprise!

We got there early Tuesday morning on June 2 and the night clerk and the manager were very helpful and was able to get us a room that morning. We will be going back and will stay at Gibbs hotel. Breakfast was very good coffee was excellent. Thank you for the great stay.

Close to the sights in San Antonio. Nice wine tasting. Nice historical building. Small room, even though it's queen sized. Parking is very expensive - 45$ a night+ tax. The room with breakfast for two was 100$.

We enjoyed our stay at Gibbs Hotel. The staff was very helpful, especially the lady who worked at the front desk. She was dressed for Fiesta and gave us advice for things to do. The hotel is right next to The Alamo and an easy walk to Riverwalk.

The breakfast was surprisingly very good and high quality. The location was great and it was in walkable distance on wear i needed to go. The only con is the daily parking was like $100.00 for two nights was in my opinion expensive just to keep my car park.
- 1/5
Nothing was clean… rooms were smelling

Great spot to stay! Comfy, updated, and right by the Alamo! Parking down there can be tricky and costly, but the whole of the hotel was excellent! Parking is just a note to all who don't think to include that in a downtown setting. I didn't. The hotel was just great though.

Our stay was wonderful! The shower was such that we wanted to take it home. The home cooked breakfast was superb!!! The staff was friendly and helpful! The only downside was the amount of construction that infiltrated the downtown area. I highly recommend this hotel for your next visit to San Antonio.

What stood out most was the historic charm and nostalgic feel of the hotel. From the beautiful marble walls in the hallway to the classic details throughout, it felt like stepping into a piece of San Antonio history. The complimentary wine sample was a nice touch, and our room was very comfortable and relaxing.

We felt that the hot breakfast buffet was fantastic!!! The great location to everything.
- 5/5
This hotel is in a quiet location caddy corner to the Alamo. There is construction in the area so it’s a bit of a challenge to get there by car. Great value for money!! Included with everyone’s stay is a complimentary breakfast buffet w plenty of choices. The hotel dates back to 1910 w old charm but the rooms feel high end with modern amenities. This is by far the best sleep I have had with hotel beds in a LONG while. Friendly staff too!! location within a minute by foot to the Alamo and Riverwalk and all sorts of bars and restaurants around. They offer complimentary wine tasting but with a promo at the end of tasting. Skip it. We live in San Antonio and chose the hotel for proximity to a wedding venue. We loved it here!

While the hotel was quaint and well located within the center of the city, my spouse and I had a hard time opening the door which kept getting stuck. The room was small and had a view of a brick wall out both our windows. The breakfast was fantastic with a good variety of items to choose from. The drinks available at the bar at the end of the day were even better. The cost to benefits ratio is fair considering what it cost to stay at this location.

We came for a short trip and for the location & cost, it was perfect! In the heart of downtown within minutes and even seconds of amazing spots to explore. Hotel was nice & served its purpose. Would come back to stay again and visit!!

The breakfast provided was very good. Room was smaller than expected.

Windows did not appear to have been cleaned inside or outside in some time, albeit SA has had a lot of rain in last couple months and there is an active construction site next door. Love the historic nature of the building, just wish they kept up with the maintenance better.

A bit tricky to get to the property due to construction. Check in was seem less and the lady at the counter was nice and helpful. Beds were very comfortable. Interesting property and steps away from the Alamo. No ghost activity (bummer) but the historical charm of the hotel was still pretty cool. The breakfast was not as good as I expected from reading reviews, but it will do if you want something fast and free. I'd stare here again.

The rooms were so cute! Convenient parking lot literally next to the building. Also had valet who went above and beyond! The front desk associate that helped me was so sweet, I met her only briefly, she made my check in a breeze!! I loved the wine tasting. The bartender there was so sweet even though we showed up 40 mins prior to closing. I will definitely re-book here again in the near future!

Love it’s preservation of prior office building. Great proximity to River Walk, Alamo and restaurants. Oh, and their breakfasts are the best I’ve had at hotels. The only thing I wished they had was a fan in the bathroom/shower area. Taking a shower made the room humid for about 15-20 minutes.

Beautiful historic building turned into a very comfortable hotel. Modern furnishings but with the old wood, tile, and marble floors. Excellent location for visiting the Alamo and Riverwalk - both about a 5 minute walk. Lovely little wine bar on premises and excellent breakfast. The pillow was a bit firm. Toilet pressure, no drawers, no microwave in room, house keeping didn't change linen on full service request, iron updated.

Couldn't get the heat to work. It was cold in the room, and even when putting the system on heat, it kept getting colder. I didn't feel like changing rooms, so I didn't cal the front desk. We just turned it off, and the room warmed up gradually. 62 degrees when we turned it off, and it was 69 when we woke up. Perfect sleeping temperature.
- 4.5/5
Almost everything. The room was pretty small and did not have a chest of drawers. So, we had to work out of our luggage.
- 4.5/5
The staff was all super friendly and helpful from the really nice lady at the front desk to the valet to the staff in the breakfast area. The hotel was very iconic and historic and well appointed. It was within walking distance to everything so we could just park the car and not worry about parking in the city. The Alamo is steps away and the RiverWalk is a short distance away. We attended a concert at the Tobin Center which was also a short walk away. Very nice stay! The noise from the construction around the hotel was a bit of a bother but there is nothing that the hotel could do about that.

Wonderful breakfast, wine tasting, best location for the money, nicely renovated, comfortable room and beds, but small. High priced parking but similar to rest of city with valet, lots of construction around the building. No view from room - only walls of building but huge windows.

It was quaint, sweet and perfect for our night in San Antonio! The complimentary breakfast was wonderful especially the carne guisada tacos! Being able to walk to the River Walk is a huge bonus!
- 4/5
Easy walk ability. Convenient location. Need more housecleaning staff.
- 4/5
We stay at Hotel Gibbs every time we are in San Antonio. The staff is incredible. Always have been over the years! I will say, the rooms are usually top tier and clean, but there was obvious wear and tear in our room. The bathroom showed a lot of wear and tear and there were somethings missed when cleaned, like the hair in the shower. The tvs in the room are dated, cant connect to any apps to stream. Small things, but for the cost of the room these things should be kept in mind for the future. The construction next door sucks, being woken up at 6am on a Saturday blows lol, but not the hotels fault!

Only cons: no hotel parking and valet is a different company it was $45 extra. We parked right outside the hotel with valet and in the morning we sqw our camera and someone hit us on the side. Thankfully our cybertruck was fine, but the other car had some much deserved damage. This is on valet IMO. Overall, the hotel, staff, breakfast, amenities made it all worth it! Oh and you have to try the wine bar there, very good wine.
- 5/5
Yes the breakfast bar was fresh and really good.
- 4/5
The location was great -- a short walk to the Alamo, restaurants, shops and the River Walk. The hotel is in a former office building built in 1909, and they incorporated many of the architectural features and fixtures in their remodeling which gives it a unique look and feel. The breakfast is good, and the staff is friendly and professional. We've stayed at the hotel two different times. This, our second time, we found our room to be a bit small with not a lot of space for suitcases, and we did find two roaches in the bathroom. We notified the staff so they could take care of that problem.
- 3/5
I enjoyed the wine bar.
- 4/5
staff was very helpful and friendly to us. breakfast menu needed to have meat/protein added.
- 5/5
This was a great choice for staying in central San Antonio. You can literally throw a rock and hit the Alamo from the front door of the hotel. So great access to the Alamo grounds and just a short walk from there or the hotel to River Walk. Lots of great bars and restaurants in the area plus lots of museums and other attractions. It's a historic hotel that has been renovated so the room was clean and modern with a comfortable bed and good amenities. Of course being a historic hotel, the walls and windows are thin so you will hear some noise but that's to be expected in an old building. The staff was very friendly and helpful and the in house breakfast was better than most hotel breakfasts which was nice. One thing to know - there is no parking so you either have to valet your vehicle at the hotel for pay for parking in a nearby parking lot. So be prepared for the added cost to park. But all in all this hotel was a great choice I would definitely stay there again.
- 5/5
Location! Right next to the Alamo, and a short walk to Riverwalk. This was a wonderful, classic hotel. Room wasn't ready at check-in time but staff was over the top apologetic, offered a free wine tasting in the connected wine spot, and communicated well. No issue. Stuff happens. The only thing I suggest is the A/C vents in the room we stayed in (216, I think) need a good cleaning.

Fantastic complimentary breakfast with foods prepped on site, nice wine bar, valet parking, with self outdoor parking next door. Parking garages nearby, too. The hotel building itself is historic. Beautiful architecture and interior. Beds were comfortable enough. Bathroom was on the small side and they could use some WD40 on some of the hinges since the doors are so heavy. I would also recommend house keeping check under beds occasionally, looked to be dust from 1909 under both beds in the room.

The hotel itself has so much character, blending historic charm with modern comfort. The rooms were clean, stylish, and very comfortable, with thoughtful touches that made us feel right at home. The beds were especially cozy, and we appreciated how quiet and relaxing the atmosphere was after a busy day sightseeing. The staff truly made the experience exceptional. Everyone we interacted with was friendly, welcoming, and eager to help with recommendations or anything we needed during our stay. Customer service like this really stands out. We also enjoyed the complimentary breakfast — a great variety of options and a perfect way to start the day before heading out. Overall, Hotel Gibbs exceeded our expectations. If you’re looking for a charming, comfortable hotel in a prime downtown location with excellent service, this is definitely the place to stay. We would happily return and highly recommend it to anyone visiting San Antonio!

Honestly the staff we really nice and the valet was convenient but i couldnt sleep at all here. The AC unit was SO loud, every time it would kick on l, i would wake up. The was someone in the parking lot outside our room in the Hotel Gibbs free parking who was blaring music until 1 am, I could hear my neighbor's phone ringing all night long and then then a garbage truck came at 530AM to put up the trash and was VERY loud for like 10 to 15 minutes (it literally sounded like someone was running down hallways. The bathroom was really clean but everytime you flushed it made a high pitched loud noise for like 2 minutes straight ans water got all over the floor anytime you showered. Again, the staff was great and breakfast was decent but I wouldn't stay again, especially not in an executive room again because my family an I couldn't sleep at all.
- 5/5
The Hotel room was very nice and the beds were comfortable. The front desk staff and valet were amazing and very kind and helpful. My only complaint was that we had asked to have the full service of having the sheets changed in our room, since we were staying for 5 nights and that unfortunately was not done and trash was not taken on two of the nights. I do recommend a stay here as it is super close to the river walk and the Alamo and tons of cute shops and restaurants. I would definitely stay again, I would just suggest staying on top of your request if you ask for a full service.

Hotel was decent. Nice breakfast and staff; HOWEVER, there was construction work going on RIGHT BESIDE the hotel which went on LATE INTO THE EVENING and would begin EARLY in the morning (4:30am). This translate into RESTLESS/SLEEPLESS NIGHTS!! There was no mention of this work prior to booking and yet the Hotel establishment was unwilling to accommodate the inconvenience in any way, discounted fare and/or credits for a future stay. After much inquiry this construction has been ongoing for quite awhile and will not be completed for quite a while; therefore, BE WARNED!!

We loved our stay at the Gibbs! Can’t wait to book with them again !

This place is wonderful!!! From the first moment we arrived there we were met by the friendly valet attendants that gave us a very warm welcome. The check in was great! The front desk staff were so polite and friendly. And you get a FULL breakfast! That was so delicious. I have wasn’t in anyone that’s coming to visit this great wonderful hotel to use the valet parking. Yes you have to pay extra for it but it’s worth it. They secure your vehicle and a garage. It’s safe. You know it’s safe. no one‘s going to break in. The parking lot right next-door to the hotel charges way more than what the hotel charges. It’s worth it to trust me so anyone coming to San Antonio please please visit hotel Gibbs you would not be disappointed. I love that. This building was built in 1906 and they kept a lot of the original stone tile the lighting it’s it’s fabulous.

Sarah was very helpful due to the construction going on in the roads. Not only helpful indoors but making sure everyone who was intending to stay at the hotel was able to find it with all the road detours. The breakfast was excellent! The historic ambience was wonderful and added to the occasion of my anniversary. The rooms were great we had a king suite in the heart of San Antonio. We ate so happy our daughters gifted us this stay! Highly recommend.

Everything was great staff cleanliness breakfast was absolutely phenomenal
- 4/5
This was very convenient to the Alamo, basically across the street and a short walk to the Riverwalk. The staff is friendly and helpful ( told us an even quicker way to get to the river walk). Valet parking was available and it was in a quaint older building.

Yes
- 5/5
Staff was great and rooms were very clean
- 5/5
I was pleasantly surprised how nice Hotel Gibbs was and the walkability to the Alamo, nearby restaurants and the Riverwalk. Our view was pretty nice from the room too. I loved their wine tasting downstairs too. Their flower wine is amazing! Would definitely recommend staying here.
- 5/5
Shops and restaurants within walking distance. Room had some trash had under the bed, nothing horrible, just a few wrappers. Slower pressure was good and complimentary wine tasting downstairs was a nice surprise
- 5/5
Clean room ,nice staff, nice breakfast buffet.
- 5/5
everything was near by loved it!
- 5/5
Clean room and walking distance from most places. Best breakfast as well

Overall the hotel is a nice and fairly up to date place to stay. This was our second time to stay and unfortunately was disappointed to say the least. Check in was slow as there was a line of people with one person trying to get people checked in (def needed at least two people). Once we were able to actually check in we were told our room wasn't ready. 45min later we were told it still wasnt ready, not the best way to start the check in process. After finally getting to our room we found the shower had not been cleaned as there was still hair on the walls and covering the soap dispencers as well as fake eye lashes stuck to them. Went down and let the front desk know and they seemed not interested in helping but said they would take care of it. After come back to the room later in the day the room and been cleaned but the shower had not been touched again. Very disappointed in the quality and lack of care on this second stay. We will most likely take this hotel off our list of places to stay when visiting and stick with our original booking at the Emily Morgan again across the street.

If you're looking for historic charm and not a just cookie-cutter hotel room, this one is for you. Older but well-maintained property. Steps from the Alamo and other tourist attractions.

Friendly and knowledgeable staff, clean room. Enjoyed the parts of the old hotel. I would definitely recommend this hotel
- 5/5
The history of the building has been preserved while providing modern amenities. The rooms were clean and the bed was comfortable. The staff went above and beyond to help us enjoy our stay in the hotel and in San Antonio.
- 5/5
room was great, breakfast is good, wine tasting was good but the parking was way out of control. we paid a good amount to stay there and i believe part of the parking should have been including,
- 5/5
Great staff - breakfast was very good.
- 5/5
Great location
- 5/5
Cute hotel! Close to everything and beautiful view of the Alamo! Rooms were super clean, the breakfast was amazing!! Staff was very friendly and went above and beyond.

- 5/5
Room was great service was great
- 5/5
Beautiful Hotel and wonderful staff. Delicious breakfast
- 3/5
The room was clean, but the pictures were deceiving. The bathroom was super odd and the room was super small. The Valet charged me $42.00 to park my car for the night. The staff was really polite and kind.
- 5/5
Love this historic hotel! Location is perfect and the staff is very friendly and helpful.
- 5/5
Great room, bigger then i thought and enjoyed breakfast buffet
- 5/5

- 5/5
This place is great! The rooms are large and comfortable with great views of the city and the Alamo. The breakfast is fantastic, not to be missed.
- 5/5
We enjoyed the historical look of the building. Front-desk staff was really attentive and provided great customer service. They gave us some ideas for eating out. The room was clean, halls and room smelled fresh and clean. No problems at all.
- 5/5
Great location, our go to place to stay in the downtown Riverwalk area. Always super clean, great staff!
- 5/5
Everyone is extremely friendly and helpful! We loved the suggestions of places to see and when to go certain places! We will definitely be back!
- 5/5
great staff super clean room
- 5/5
The staff was fantastic and so accommodating! The rooms were very clean and we always what we needed! Definitely will stay again!
- 5/5
This was an excellent stay.
- 5/5
Right next to the Alamo, great atmosphere, amazing breakfast!
- 5/5
Great staff!
- 5/5
Great rooms, hteat service, friendly atmosphere. Lots of history and pleanty of restaurants and shopping within walking distance.
- 4/5
Upon arrival the staff was helpful and the room was clean, but the parking was very expensive. Our room was smaller than expected and the hot water did not work in the shower which was unfortunate as we stayed during a cold front. The room also took a long time to warm up. Breakfast and location were both good though, so overall it was a good stay.
- 5/5
Great room no complains other than water was cold and bathroom is tiny
- 5/5
The view, location, breakfast, the rooms are very nice but the wine tasting is the best part
- 5/5
Great location and Hotal!
- 3/5
Nice staff, good breakfast, but we didnt get our room cleaned, and the shower didnt worked propertly.
- 5/5
The room was spotless and clean, the ambience of the location was very nice and very welcoming, the rooms are very clean and very historic looking, breakfast is served all throughout the weak and it’s all very fresh, this hotel is set in a good location for most of my stay I mostly spent my time walking instead of riding around since it’s in the heart of San Antonio, I would definitely be booking here if I come back again.
- 5/5
The staff members are friendly, and the room was exceptionally clean, featuring wooden floors, which I consider a significant advantage. Breakfast is served as a buffet. No free parking, parking was $45 for overnight
- 5/5
Staff is really nice
- 5/5
All around great stay. Rooms were comfortable although shower is small. Breakfast was great with lots of options like breakfast tacos, waffles, biscuits & gravy, fruit, oatmeal etc. Front desk staff Sarah and Michelle and David the manager were very helpful and friendly. They offered dining suggestions, and temporarily stored our luggage. Location was perfect as it was right next to Alamo Plaza and short walk to the Riverwalk and restaurants. Parking is thru valet but they were very fast and everything in that area is pay to park. We will definitely check Hotel Gibbs again on our next visit
- 5/5
Amazing location, I recommend valet parking. If you’re looking for a simple, fancy hotel to stay at after spending a night out on the town, this is your place. Walking distance to any bar/club in downtown SA!!!
- 5/5
Beautiful room, great breakfast
- 5/5
The hotel and room was very clean. I loved my room which was a Jr Suite. My only complaint is that it has low water pressure in the shower. However, it would not keep me from coming here again. It was an awesome location to the Alamo, Riverwalk, and the historical marketplace.
- 5/5
Upon entering the lobby. The front desk staff were so incredibly friendly - and we just live 1.5 hours away in Austin so it’s not like we aren’t used to Texas hospitality! The room was clean, the beds super comfortable, location impeccable, breakfast was hotel buffet but lots of options and FAB service, the wine bar was great…do I need to go on? I booked this as a semi-last minute trip for a Monday holiday the kids were out of school and we weren’t working. Now we cannot wait to go back! Our room overlooked the Alamo and was a short walk tot he River walk and other things to do. Incredible hotel that I really don’t want the secret out about but they sure do deserve the praise!
- 4/5
The comfiest beds ever! Staff was friendly. Great location - across from the Alamo. Walkable. Would definitely stay there again.
- 5/5
The girl at check-in was amazing. The breakfast bar was really good. I actually had no idea that was included. Maybe I didn’t read very well. They gave us tickets for a wine tasting for free. The room was beautiful. I wish I could live here. Lol
- 5/5
Great location and friendly staff
- 5/5
The breakfast there was hot. The staff was courteous my room TV didn’t work so they switched me to a better room and I appreciate that I give them a 10.
- 5/5
Everything was outstanding. Would stay again lovely Hotel
- 5/5
Breakfast variety was great!!! Loved the hotel it was old and could see the Alamo from our room. The river walk was walking distance.
- 5/5
They upgraded us to a larger suite even though we were last minute to inform them it was our wedding night. We were very satisfied with our stay, their building held the classic historical feel. The staff were friendly and responsive, the room was clean with a great view of the tower and the breakfast was delicious. Thank you
- 5/5
The friendliness of the staff.
- 5/5
Everything was excellent...100% recommended! The front desk staff in the morning, especially the lady with the white hair, was fantastic (10/10), so pleasant and friendly. The breakfast was fantastic, and the room was comfortable and clean. When we returned from our outings, everything was perfectly tidy and smelled wonderful. We'll see you soon! Thank you for everything.
- 5/5
Super charming place, everyone was friendly, super clean rooms.
- 5/5
The hotel is a historic 1909 former high rise with original elements incorporated into the function of the halls and rooms. Expect as much when you stay and you will be overjoyed with the experience. The original hardwood floors are gorgeous and the elevated “modern” 60’s flair of the lighting and furnishings is distinguished. The bed is super comfy, also!
- 4/5
Good clean room. Very comfortable beds. Steps from the Alamo, 1-2 blocks to Riverwalk, so super convenient for anything in that area. TV in room a little spotty. Called front desk & they said turn it off & back on sometimes helps. It seemed to fix for the most part. Decent price. Nothing not to like here at all.
- 5/5
The breakfast was fabulous and customer service was amazing.
- 5/5
The room was very clean and comfortable. Breakfast was good and the location excellent. Very nice stay.
- 5/5
Breakfast was good food although they were running short on items
- 5/5
Clean room and breakfast
- 5/5
Wonderful stay
- 5/5
Great location next to the Alamo
- 3/5
We had huge windows but we were facing another old building. The food wasn’t good. The eggs were not fresh. The fruit from the fruit cup I got was bad. I had that bad taste in my mouth for a while. The description of the hotel said it had a restaurant but we were never told where the restaurant was so we just went out to find restaurants nearby.
- 5/5
The staff was super friendly, the room was exceptionally clean, ac worked great, location the best@
- 5/5
Hotel clean and location is good. Staff are friendly and helpful. Our 3rd time staying here and we’ll be back!
- 2/5
Staff was fine. The $42/day for parking has ruined my Christmas spirit big time. Nice going for the heads up, Orbitz. Any other questions?
- 4/5
Friendly staff, clean rooms
- 5/5
The room was very clean and quiet. We were right by the elevators and never heard them. The people at the front desk were helpful and friendly. We would definitely stay again.
- 5/5
We stay every year here. They have the best customer service. very friendly front desk.
- 5/5

Staff was helpful and it was walking distance to the Alamo museum.
- 4/5
Clean and convenient. Staff was friendly.
- 5/5
Great hotel in a great location
- 4/5
Good breakfast room was not for a handicap person.
- 5/5
Everything was really nice but the breakfast was the best !
- 5/5
The staff and how the room was clean. Area for what we went was great. Plan to stay there again. Thanks for being friendly and kind.
- 5/5
perfect and convenient spot. we thoroughly enjoyed the complimentary wine and breakfast. beds were very comfy
- 5/5
The room was in excellent condition. Very comfortable bed. I was close to everything I wanted to visit.
- 5/5
Clean and spacious room, friendly staff
- 4/5
Current Alamo construction makes it hard to get Lyft or Uber, you have to walk round corner and also construction starts at 6am. I wasn’t on that side but it still woke me up everyday. Suggest waiting for construction to finish or bring earplugs!
- 5/5
The fresh hot breakfast had a variety of options. Tortillas, sausage, bacon, eggs, carne quisada, cereals, toast, fresh fruit, yogarts. Juice and coffee. The rooms are comfortable, clean, good coffee machine, the staff is friendly. Right next door to the Alamo and quick walk to the riverwalk. Excellent hotel.
- 5/5
Excellent place to stay close to the Alamo and Riverwalk.
- 5/5
employees polite and informative and smiling
- 5/5
100% satisfaction with both staff and hotel.
- 5/5
Wish the shower room had hooks/cabinet for towels/clothes instead of having to put them on the floor.
- 5/5
Hotel was adorable, clean and convenient. Only wish we had known about the construction going on.
- 5/5
clean room, staff
- 5/5
Fantastic hotel. Fantastic staff. Room was oursranding
- 5/5
Very cool well maintained historic hotel.
- 5/5
I like place! I recomendent
- 5/5
Everything was nice and clean. The room was tastfully decorated and the restroom was spacious. There were enough towels, soap and the shower was big and nice. Also next to the bed there were USB-C connections. A Big mirror was also nice to have. The breakfast was really nice! Loved the waffles in Texas shape and the different choices you had. All in all it was a really nice stay.
- 4/5
Friendly staff.
- 5/5
Nice clean and no ghosts
- 4/5
Excellent
- 3/5
Had to move rooms twice
- 5/5
The location was excellent to the Alamo and the River Walk. The staff was extra friendly and helpful. Our room was ready early and we checked in at 11:00 AM! The breakfast buffet was beyond our expectations. The Hotel Gibbs was very reasonably priced but valet parking is your only option. The parking cost was 60% the cost of the room.
- 5/5
I would definitely recommend this place. It was pretty clean
- 5/5
nice place and close to downtown and river walk
- 5/5
room was perfect. clean and extremely friendly staff
- 5/5
Everything was top notch! Clean, quiet room. Good breakfast. Hero of the trip was our valet Justin who when above and beyond to help us when we had car trouble. Will definitely be back!
- 3/5
Upon arrival we really liked the obvious history the building had and the architecture that was preserved was cool! But when we got up to the room I noticed a spill on the carpet in which we called them up to clean and it took them only but 5 minutes, which means the room was not properly looked over and cleaned before. There was mold along the grout on the shower floor, and the water pressure was terrible! Basically a trickle lol but breakfast was good and the staff was very friendly it just felt like a lot was missed tbh
- 5/5
As always, great service!
- 5/5
As always, great service!
- 5/5
Clean room, friendly staff, walking distance from sk many things! Definitely recommend!
- 1/5
There was a used soap with hair on it in the shower. We were told housekeeping had already left for the day but the manager would be notified and our room would be cleaned the next day. The next morning we go to the front desk to make sure it would be cleaned and request the sheets be changed as well because we had to pick hair off them that wasn’t ours. Front desk said they would put in the request and to leave nothing personal on the bed or they wouldn’t change them. Come back at 2:20 and the room has not been touched. I go talk to front desk and she said they clean the check outs first and she would put in a request to see if they received the first request. Talk to the staff on our floor and she knows nothing about the request. Also per her there was not a manager on all weekend. Someone finally showed up @ 2:52pm. As much as I travel this was hands down the worst experience I’ve had.
- 5/5
The location is fabulous...an easy walk to the Alamo and Riverwalk. The hotel's decor is great. The hotel was clean, the staff friendly, and breakfast was good. I especially liked the fresh fruit cup.
- 5/5
Clean, quiet, good location!
- 1/5
The bed was soiled and requests for cleaning were not completed.
- 4/5
This hotel was historic but efficiently equipped. Difficult to find due to construction but parking was easily accessed. Staff was very helpful and breakfast offered a wide variety.
- 4/5
Literally the only negative of this place is their elevator situation. There is only one shaft for 8 floors!! I literally waited 25 minutes for an elevator and ended up just using the stairs. Besides that it was literally perfect tho!
- 5/5
Courteous staff, excellent location, clean, quiet and comfortable room. We would definitely stay again!
- 5/5
The hotel is right across from The Alamo, and there is dining and shopping options nearby (The famous riverwalk is approximately 3 blocks away). The hotel has a valet service, which is cheaper than the surrounding parking options. The staff was very helpful, the free breakfast was great, and the hotel was spotless.
- 5/5
Friendly staff. Great location!
- 5/5
I booked this hotel for my mom and aunt. My mom said, "The breakfast was a really nice spread, a lot of options- I was surprised. The room was a 'weird' set up (bathroom), but nice and spacious. It was really close to the Riverwalk, and we liked that." They both enjoyed their stay and said they would stay there again.
- 5/5
Great place to stay right by the Alamo. Staff were incredibly friendly and the room was spacious clean and quiet
- 3/5
The hotel was nice. Good breakfast. Clean. Comfortable beds. Shower did not have good water pressure and there is no free parking. We had to pay $45 plus tips to do valet which was the cheapest option for parking. It also took 20+ minutes for them to retrieve our car.
- 3/5
The hotel's location next to Almo makes it a good place to visit most of San Antonio's attractions. On the plus side, I would highly rate the breakfast, which has various options, including nice Mexican-style ones. On the negative side, I felt the cleanliness was not high, including some smells in the room. The bed headboards are the highest I have seen, cutting all the daylight from the windows behind, making the room feel unpleasant during the day, when it feels dark.
- 2/5
Construction noise started around 7 a.m. on a Saturday with constant clinking, and it kept me up. When the A/C kicks on, it’s also pretty loud ( I had this same experience at Emily Morgan so must have to do with the age of the building). On top of that, someone had set an alarm in the room before me, and it went off at 6 a.m. Hotel staff should really reset those. I am exhausted and don’t feel refreshed at all. If you’re just looking for a convenient spot and don’t mind noise, this place works. But if you’re hoping to sleep in or get real rest, I’d look elsewhere.
- 5/5
A very generous complementary breakfast. Rooms were small, but its an older hotel. It was quiet and the bed was very comfortable. Valet parking was very expensive at $45 a day
- 5/5
The staff was very helpful and recommended some great restaurants and things to do in the area. The rooms were comfortable.
- 5/5
Really nice rooms--spacious, unique, well-crafted details. The old charm is wonderful. The staff was friendly.
- 5/5
Always a pleasure, great customer service, fantastic breakfast....
- 5/5
The service was fantastic at the hotel. The breakfast was the best I have ever had at a hotel. This place is A++
- 3/5
It wasn't the best stay, but it also wasn't the worst. Room wasn't very clean, and there was a huge roach that decided to keep me company in the bathroom. My hotel room phone started ringing at 12:30am, which freaked me out. Front desk service was probably the best part about my stay - they were extremely kind and accomodating.
- 4/5
Everything is good but the parking suks its 45 dollars each all the parking is high downtown. Breakfast was very good.tv was old as dirt, could notvwatch hulu, netflix, amazon prime even tho remote gave options.. luxury hotel and tv was old. Room was too small but clean
- 5/5
Friendly staff, excellent accommodations, Super Clean…this is a return trip and we will stay here again!
- 4/5
Better trolleys to carrying the suitcase
- 5/5
Everything was amazing
- 5/5
The restoration of a building that’s hundred years old; location, and walkability to all sites we wanted to go.
- 5/5
Cute wine bar off the lobby. Lots of real food breakfast options. Close to the Alamo, Riverwalk and lots of dining options. Staff is great. Parking is valet or public parking lots.
- 5/5
Great room, historic, beautiful, spacious, helpful staff in a wonderful area. Fantastic for the price. Highly recommended.
- 5/5
I loved staying at the property, the overall history of the building itself was interesting. The rooms were very clean and the staff, especially Michelle, were great. The breakfast was great, had unique foods which you don’t normally see at a hotel breakfast like Carne Guisada which was absolutely delicious. I will be booking here in the future.
- 5/5
Excellent! No complaints.
- 3/5
To start with some positives. I loved the vintage look of the hotel. The breakfast was better than other free breakfasts we have had. The room was a little small but nice. Now, what we really didn't like. There was no parking connected to the hotel. It was required to either pay $30-40 per night at a random lot, or pay $45 for valet to park your car blocks away. We also had issues with cleanliness. There were muddy footprints in our room when we checked in. There was also mold on the ceiling with the shower. The refrigerator did not work. And while towels were replaced, beds weren't made, the shampoo and body wash was empty, etc. It just wasn't the expectation we have in hotels.
- 5/5
Breakfast was huge and delicious
- 4/5
FYI Downtown San Antonio is under construction ~ Holtel across the street from Alamo.
- 5/5
Property is older but still well kept
- 5/5
The hotel was very nice, the staff was great and it was very conveniently located to the River Walk.
- 5/5
Great place. Even with construction at the Alamo, it was quiet and easy to get around.
- 5/5
Courteous staff
- 5/5
Friendly staff
- 5/5
Very nice! Lots to do around the area.
- 5/5
The rooms were clean, the staff was great. Breakfast was great.
- 5/5
Clean room. Comfy beds!
- 5/5
It's not a cookie cutter hotel! Greatnlocation and plenty of character!
- 5/5
The hotel is very clean and quiet. We walked right up to the river walk. I didn’t like the cost of parking. I feel that, that needs to be free. And I didn’t like them not having a pool. Other than that I really enjoyed my stay
- 5/5
Clean safe quiet great wifi and tv channels
- 5/5
Super fun vintage hotel with a sweet staff
- 5/5
Comfy bed
- 5/5
The original parts of the building they display are stunning! The staff was friendly, and breakfast was good. The room was very clean and comfortable as well.
- 3/5
Overall stay was pleasant but will NOT be staying here again.
- 5/5
In vicinity of the Alamo and other amazing areas.
- 4/5
The staff was very kind and helpful.
- 4/5
Now to the valet parking, which was alright at first. The app didn’t work very well. The morning we left no one was there to bring our car to us. Seems they were at another place and didn’t look at the app. We needed our car early that morning. We told them the night before we would need it early. They need work on the app and the valet’s need to watch the app.
- 5/5
5 minutes from river walk
- 3/5
Friendly staff, cool historic building with a great location for San Antonio riverwalk and the alamo. There were a couple questionable stains on linens and one of the chairs. The shower drain wasn’t working, and was standing in a pool of water. No ladle or bucket for the sauna, which we were looking forward to. Free breakfast was a plus, and they also offered a free wine tasting when we had checked in. 3.7/5, really loved the staff and the history of the building.
- 4/5
Loved the location and the hospitality. The room was clean and easily accessible, though it was a bit small. Toilet had issues and the staff was responsive. I would highly recommend the Gibbs.
- 4/5
Walking distance to places
- 3/5
The room was not very clean. The bathroom smelled weird the whole stay. The air vent was right over the bed and horrible to sleep under. For a weary traveler with limited time this is a lot to deal with and quite an inconvenience. The breakfast was good and the staff was very friendly and welcoming. No complaints there.
- 5/5
Staff was incredible. I felt so welcome and respected and safe. Beautiful hotel, I will continue to book over and over again
- 5/5
Wow! This is a hidden gem! Great historic hotel right next to the river walk and the Alamo. This staff is sweet and always have a smile on their faces. The rooms are comfortable and spacious l. Best part of the room was the cold a/c which is an absolute necessity when dealing with hot Texas summers. All of this for an affordable stay. I would recommend Hotel Gibbs 100% and can't wait to visit again!
- 5/5
Our stay here was quite comfortable. All wokers here would greet you and be helpful. Our room.was spacious and clean. Breakfast was delicious. Nice buffet.
- 5/5
Great location and clean
- 5/5
Right in the middle of everything was perfect
- 5/5
Nice quiet and great location
- 2/5
Bathroom was moldy, told the staff next day at check out and they were unbothered.
- 5/5
Amazing!!! The staff was inviting, the rooms were really comfortable, valet was friendly and so helpful! There was breakfast and complimentary wine tasting! I had the best time!
- 5/5
Definitely will stay again
- 5/5
Love the architecture, vintage looking with modern cleanliness, good looking shower, and banger breakfast
- 5/5
Great location and service
- 5/5
Super friendly and accommodating staff. Hotel is very warm and welcoming. Rooms are comfortable.
- 5/5
Great place
- 3/5
The property is amazing and the front desk was helpful. The valet attendant was awful and rude though. When he realized we would be parking separately he was rude and made a snide remark that he was timing us to get our bags out and get back to our vehicle. This was not necessary because we moved the vehicle immediately. He then argued with me about how he has moved trucks bigger than mine and he made me feel very insignificant as a woman driver. The way he spoke to me was horrible. We were offered a free wine tasting but we don't drink alcohol and no other option was available, which was a little bit of a bummer. Other than the awful valet experience, the hotel itself was great!
- 5/5
Everything was smooth. Comfortable room, nice staff, good breakfast. Would stay again.
- 5/5
Right by the Alamo and Riverwalk
- 5/5
Loved
- 5/5
Great bright room with lots of lighting. Beds very comfortable with nice pillows. Only 1 of the 2 elevators were functioning. Breakfast ok, nothing great. Walking distance to Riverwalk which makes this a great location for the price. We used Uber as parking is $45 a night plus attendants look like they want tips.
- 5/5
Place was clean customer service was awesome ✨ I enjoyed my stay
- 5/5
Good stay, good service, great atmosphere
- 5/5
Awesome staff!!

However, the bathroom shower layout was odd, you can’t turn on the water without being directly hit due to how the shower door opens. The water pressure was also not great. Toilet wouldn’t flush properly, I had to hold down the toilet handle for a few seconds before it would actually flush. Mini fridge in the room was janky, the door did not close all the way and liquids weren’t kept cold. They also only have valet parking for like $48 a night, which is crazy high. All in all, I don’t think I’d stay here again, but it was a beautiful hotel and it did the trick for the few nights I was there.

Loved the nostalgia. Hospital staff were friendly.

I did enjoy the history of the building a few staff members shared with us.

For three hours straight, the hotel has a really loud beeping noise at 1:30am to 4:30. Worse experience
- 4/5
It was nice and clean. Staff was friendly
- 5/5
Would definitely stay there again

Bed and pillows were absolutely terrible. Stuffy inside the room even with the ac set on 65, no way the room was actually at 65. The shower is tiny cannot really shower without touching the walls ( GROSS)!! Staff was supper nice and friendly though.

Stayed with our daughters as a graduation gift. Place was amazing and unique

Rooms and nice and clean. Great location.

Close to the Riverwalk. The rooms are very well kept. You are literally across the street from the Alamo. They're doing construction right outside the hotel but it isn't very disruptive. I've recommended it to anyone I can, especially other Army families that are in town for their soldiers graduation from AIT. I'd definitely stay there again.

Our rooms were clean, comfy, and well maintained. It was a pleasure to stay here during the conference. All of the staff were helpful and kind. Will recommend to anyone who asks!

I booked this Hotel due to its price and location. It is directly across from the Alamo and had the best price. The Hotel is very historic and well kept. The cleanliness was very good. I did have to ask for some extra washcloths the second day, but other than that is was very nice hotel. The only bad thing is having to pay for parking, but that is all over the downtown area. Be nice if the room rate included the cost for parking.

Nice hotel, the room was small but the A/C was cold.
- 5/5
Every single staff member greeted and welcomed us.
- 2/5
Very close to everything but very old building and a/c doesn’t work well
- 5/5
Booked last minute and glad we did it was perfect place close to Alamo, River Walk and Complimentary breakfast was great

Staff were friendly and always willing to help. Although, the hotel probably needs thorough cleaning. The ice machine was moldy and Ice moldy and smelled funny. As for the room, we were enjoying a cookie left it in the desk for longer than a minute and there was a roach on our napkin. Alerted the staff and they just said thank you.

Hotel Gibbs is spectacular! From the moment we arrived everyone was so welcoming and friendly! For someone who loves history this is such a great place to stay! The historic original tile and marble. They kept the original elevator doors (just for historic purposes, nonfunctional) The room was fun and unconventional, but cosy and very clean! Nice roomy bathrooms with tile showers! Floor to ceiling windows over looking the city. The breakfast was very yummy, don’t miss that! It’s not your typical hotel breakfast. They have valet parking on site, we parked a couple blocks away at St. Mary’s garage for $10.00 a day. (We parked after 5pm & left around noon both days, it was $10.00 each day.) it’s a nice covered garage with an attendant, 24hours, NO in & out. Over all our stay at the Gibbs was perfect!

Great night

Wonderful stay. The lady who checked us in was so nice (can’t remember her name but she always wear a headband and dressed all black). The only thing we didn’t like was breakfast room was very small. We had to take it to our room to eat.

Hotel has great customer service. Valet was top notch and the hotel itself was very clean and well kept.

Love my continuous experience at Hotel Gibbs. Valet already knows me. Very kind people.

I love the older feel of the hotel. The floors, the marble, the look of it in general. I love all of that! The staff were mostly friendly as well. I hate to say it, but it was not very clean. There was long, black straight all over the hardwood floors and on the shower walls. It was there when I got there AND, for reference: I have short, blonde curly hair lol. So it was definitely not mine. I found a bug on top of the duvet. I don’t believe it was a bed bug, and that could have hitched a ride with me when I was outside. So that one isn’t necessarily a cleanliness issue. But who knows. The other thing was there was gross smears on the wall by the door? Not sure what that was.. anyway, overall, I enjoyed the stay, but I doubt I will come back because of the status of the room. Maybe they could take a little extra time in cleaning the rooms in the future.

Great staff and service

Breakfast is terrible.

Great location, very friendly staff and complementary wine sampling. Hotel room very clean and beds very comfy. Cold ac.

Unfortunately construction workers started at 730 very noisy after a long trip. Looking forward to the construction being completed in /2026
- 3/5
Nice property, walkable to the Riverwalk area, but lacs basic amenities such as water in the room or building.
- 3/5
The property is in a historic building which I liked. The major issues I had was a super loud hvac fan and toilet refill squeal. Could also use a few more drawers and shelves. Addressing these could really help this hotel with potential shine.
- 4/5
The location was great because many attractions were nearby, but the room was extremely small. You have to pay for parking which it does not say anywhere when you book. it was a little rundown. It looks like it was an old bank.

Fantastic ADA wheelchair accessible room.

Great location

The staff were very friendly and helpful. The location is great and walking distance to Riverwalk, Alamo and many other points of interest.

our time in this hotel! It was very spacious and the staff members were so sweet. The employee Star was super helpful and we were blown away with her wonderful customer service and how fast she attended to us. We will definitely book here again!

It would be great if this property had a pool. It was nice having breakfast included but the food was lukewarm. Location is great to the Alamo and other Riverwalk amenities. Overall, it was an okay stay.
- 5/5
Hotel itself was A+ ! Great rooms for the money , great showers and beds . Breakfast was included and actually above average. Parking was very high but not hotels fault . Construction across the street was annoying but once again not hotels fault .
- 5/5
Literally steps away from the Alamo and walkable historic district. Staff friendly. Valet parking excellent and easy to arrange.

This was our second time staying at the Gibbs. Love staying there. Its close to everything and breakfast was delicious.
