Holiday Inn Express & Suites Salem by IHG

Our issue is that they now charge for parking. This fee is new, as we have stayed here many times in the past. This property is not in a location that would need to have exclusive rights to parking and charging to park here is ridiculous. The hotel is located in an area all by itself. It is not the actual amount of the fee that is upsetting, it's the principal of an unexpected add-on nuisance fee. This parking fee even though it is a small amount, is a money grab by the owners who must want to keep their nightly rate artificially low by nickel and diming you instead.

Rooms had a weird smell. Breakfast with burnt scrambled eggs and broken pancake machine, not much for kids. Front desk at checkin was rude but with eye rolls was able to help with request for a higher floor. Pre Paid for a king suite but was down graded to queen suite with no refund. Charged 5 for parking that was not advertised.

My room was next to housekeeping room. Terrible idea. It was early morning and all you could hear was a banging noise. Never again.

Overall a nice place to stay. Staff was overwhelmed that weekend, and therefore was hard to find when needing served.

I was quite impressed with the hotel. It seems newly renovated, clean, and friendly! Great location and the breakfast was great! Especially the coffee!

Just a BIG thank you to the overnight staff for putting a quick and effective stop to the party going on next door to us, that woke us up at 1:30am.

It looks mostly updated, but our bathroom door was broken, tub stopper broken, and the caulk in tub could be replaced, but it was still very clean. These were very minor issues, and I would absolutely stay again.

Check in was a breeze. She was so kind and helpful. We travel all the time and the beds were the most comfy we’ve ever experienced.

Everything was so comfortable. The bed was very comfortable and the sheets were so soft. Breakfast was also very nice. The coffee could use some help but that’s all.

They charged $5 for parking which is terrible! This is not a hotel in the middle of a city with limited parking. Staff was courteous.

It is really sad that the owners don’t take care of the bathrooms/ repair. The wood around the sink base was cracking open because the water flows off the edge of the counter and is causing wood rot. The shower curtain smelled sour/ mildewed. There was mold in the shower. The bedroom part was comfortable enough but good grief…. Clean the dang bathroom!! There is no excuse for mold

Our room was not as clean as it could have been. The walls were not very soundproof in that we could hear the TV loud and clear from our next door neighbor as well as all the footsteps from the people above us. The breakfast was fair. The front desk associate was friendly though and the beds were comfortable.

Check in staff was great. The room smelled very musty and damp. Set my and my wife’s allergies into high gear! The breakfast area was dirty and unattended with overflowing trash cans.

The property was very clean. Room and pool were nice. However the hotel checked us out before we were ready. We left at 7:30 for an event, stopped by the front desk before leaving to advise them that we were headed out but we would be back before our check out time (12 pm). They said ok, thats fine. My husband returned at 10:45 and housekeeping was in the room cleaning it for the next occupants. We advised them we hadn't even checked out and intended to still use the room (as we STILL needed it). Frustrated. Im curious what they would have done with our belongings had we let them in the hotel. It also doesn't set right with me that housekeeping entered a room that was being paid for, when the sign states they only do a cleaning on the 3rd day of your stay.

I wouldn’t exactly call having a grab bar on the outside of the tub a fully accessible room. This was very unacceptable. The room and bathroom are very spacious but not accessible with lack of a higher toilet or more grab bars.

Very clean! A variety of tasty breakfast options, better than 80% of hotels I’ve stayed in. Bed was softer than I like, but many people might prefer that. Receptionist accidentally gave me and the family that checked in after me rooms already occupied by other guests. A/C in room 321 a little noisy, but they might fix that soon.

On a long drive, I like knowing that I will hop in their pool and hot tub at the end of the day. It has a miuntain view as does my room. This is a very clean, safe, and comfortable place to stay. Well done!

Refrigerator inside temp. should be below 40 deg. Fahrenheit, these small refrig's, even when working, never get very cold so a different type of refrig. would be the solution for all the rooms.

The walls are so thin you can people talking in the next room, and I had to go and get soap for the shower because the bottle was empty.

Deadbolt didn’t engage on the room door, elevators were out of order for the two days I was there, and the bathroom door in the room (2 queen bed room) did not shut at all. Other than that the staff were polite and it was a clean room. I was happy enough. But the building needs some major maintenance.

Elevator was broken. No extra blankets or pillows for sofa bed. Didn’t have enough towels. Could smell cigarette smoke like someone was smoking in room close to ours. The room was clean and had good pillows

Everything was great and clean. They didn’t clean the room or bring new towels on day two. We may have had the dnd sign up, not sure. Didn’t matter. The front desk gave us more. Breakfast was great and it was pleasant to sit down stairs. I was in a wheelchair and or accessible room was comfortable and large. 2dbl and sofa room. Not a walk/roll in shower set up. It was a tub with a seat. Would have been better if taller. But that was my first shower since my wreck in October. This is a great place to stay. We will go back.

I tried to cancel my reservation, made it for the wrong month. I cannot rate my stay . I talked with a very nice lady who was working on canceling my reservation and making a reservation for March 14&15th instead. I have not heard from her .

It was worth the price but was inconvenient when it came to variety of places to dine.

Close to I-81 after a long days drive. We're restaurants within 15 min drive. Too bad Burger King easy walk is closed for renovations.

Just a stop over on my trip to Tennessee. Nice to take a break. Get a shower. Relax. The breakfast was good. The pankake machine was cool. Only complaint. Is the heater fan would not shut off. Bit loud.

Area very sketchy , people sleeping in cars in the parking lot which has very poor lighting. No where at all to get food other than a Burger King that didn’t require a long drive in a lot of traffic to a very poor neighborhood. Large blood stain on mattress and Bobby pins on floor .

Continental breakfast was a JOKE! We arrived at 8:00 am. No pancakes. No yogurt. No bananas. Potatoes were undercooked. Bagels were so stale and hard they were inedible. White bread was hard. We left and went somewhere else to eat. Very disappointing.

Do not believe the review rating. Very outdated, front desk girl was either very new or just didn’t really care. Put 2 of 3 rooms on 2nd Fl and 3rd room on 3rd floor when requested to be together. Asked if we could be together, head shake no, nothing verbal. 3rd floor upon exiting elevator reeked of cigarette smoke. Room smelled just as bad. Then go into bathroom and there’s peeled up wallpaper with about 2 feet of fuzzy mold. Housekeeping doesn’t see this is my question. Go back to desk to request room change, tell desk about mold, she asks did you leave the room clean? HUH ?!? What part of 2 feet of mold didn’t you hear?. Get room change to literally next door to our party, that couldn’t have happened 5 minutes earlier. New room, smelled of marijuana. Went to store to buy spray because it wasn’t getting better. Breakfast in the morning had long waits for food to be replenished, it was just ok. Only bright side was bed and pillows were comfortable but seemed brand new. Stinky carpets need to go. Definitely not an excellent rating by any means.

We were a family with 3 rooms for the 2 nights to attend a family wedding. I asked for rooms on same floor and close together which they did accommodate. We arrived in a Wednesday night and checked out on Saturday. My only complaint would be the breakfast on Friday was very subpar!! The breakfast on Saturday was what we have experienced in the past, so not sure what the issue was but we were not at all satisfied with it on Friday!

Blinds have remote to raise and lower which didn’t work - took to front desk for them to put new batteries in and they never returned it. Received a handicap room which was not needed or wanted - was not told beforehand.

Everything was fine, but the pull out sofa had dog hair in it and should have been cleaned. The room also had a pet odor when arrived. It went away once we ran the A/C.

I like the suite rooms with king size beds. The rooms are clean and modern and they do not have that old musty smell that older hotels have. You need to stock over the counter meds like pepto, rolaids , ibuprofen and etc.

The blind motor did not work and we had to sleep with the blind open. However, they offered us to change rooms, but as we were settled and it was late, we refused. As this was a known situation, they should not have rented this room.
