The hotel is a beautifully restored Victorian mansion with a rich history, located in a convenient downtown area. Guests generally appreciate the friendly and helpful staff, cleanliness, and unique charm of the property. However, some guests have expressed concerns about the lack of privacy due to shared bathrooms, noise levels, and the presence of homeless individuals in the surrounding area.

The building is incredible, and a great place to stay in the city - quiet, comfortable, and very close to everything downtown. Staff were warm and friendly, the facilities were very clean, the bed was comfortable. They have a deal worked out with a lovely cafe a couple blocks away so you can get a discount on meals and drinks there. The only walkable groceries are convenience stores/bodegas, but I expected that in a city. Would highly recommend, and I'll be back anytime I need to come through Sacramento.

Didn’t actually end up staying the night but it was a great spot. The staff was super helpful and friendly, the bunks seemed pretty nice in the shared female dorm and I’m sure had I actually spent the night, it would’ve been great.

The people there are absolutely wonderful. It was my first time staying in a hostel at the young age of 67. They helped me out with every question I had. They’re very accommodating wonderful to be with. I immediately felt very comfortable. Next time I go through Sacramento. I’ll be staying there again.

The place itself will take you back yo the past. . Just like a museum. Lots of memorabilia antiques and vintage that tell you a story. House structure is superb. From a dramatic light at night; The siren of the old trees waiving by the winds. To the whistle of birds combining tones creates music in my ears. Whhat else I can say.

It’s a storied building out of the gold rush era and the insides look the part. It’s not till you get to the kitchen and room that it looks like an organized hostel. Location is central Sacramento close to the capitol and restaurants. Pretty convenient! Fun stay!

There are three flights of stairs with no elevator, and you would think there’s some level of accessibility for those with mobility aids given that it says the hostel is “wheelchair accessible (with limitations)” but there are ONLY limitations. Zero accessibility. There aren’t even ramps for the front door, you’re required to go up more stairs to get into the building. It’s an impossible stay if you rely on a mobility aid and/or cannot do long treks up stairs. Don’t stay here if you are disabled or have any physical limitations that would make this as awful and painful for you as it was for me.

First time staying in a Hostel, and 100% sure that this will be hard to top at another one. I was met by Juliet whose voice I recognized over the phone when i called to ask probably too many questions, in which she answered confidentially and ultimately gave my brain the green light to stay in a hostel. I work for a major airline and I have never stayed at the nicest hotels and have felt this comfortable. I will definitely come back and will be recommending all my co workers and friends going to the Sacramento area . Thank You guys for the wonderful stay.

Staff was great and the historic building was really nice. I do think they need to clean and maintain things better. Another hostel I stayed at apart of the HI system would clean their bathrooms twice a day. To be fair the other hostel probably had more traffic but I don't think they cleaned the bathrooms in this hostel once the entire time I was staying, for 3-4 days.

There is one lady who works there-short bobbed haircut-she is THE NICEST person ever. We worked an event in the area and stayed at the hostel, and each night we returned from work she greeted us with smiles, asking us how the event was-felt like coming home and having your mom check in on you ;) Made the stay that much better. The bed was soft and cozy, our room was lovely. Will be back next year for the next event 100% we just love this place and our favorite staff member-I just wish I would have asked her for her name so I could personally publicly thank her. Absolutely wonderful lady.

This is in heart of Sacramento downtown and in extremely scary neighborhoods. Even going out for dinner seems scary at night. I took a separate room individual room and it was literally 7x4 in size. There’s nothing in room. The property is scary old and everything is shaky. My bed headboard came out. If you add parking it’s almost equal to any ordinary hotel. So why go thru this. People are good here, well some of them. I asked for extra pillow, one just said no while other one gave in a minute. Well and well never coming back. If you can spend extra 10$ don’t come here.

Victorian era mansion, beautifully restored to the purpose of hospitality… could not believe my good fortune discovering this place… William Randolph, hurst one of the great names in American journalistic financial architectural and art preservationist and his entourage would have felt quite at home in those surroundings… pleasure of sitting in those rooms, make me feel as if I was being made to feel at home in the museum…. Not for five times the price could I have gotten a stay as nice near the center of Sacramento barely 15 minutes walk from Sacramento Valley Station. An outstanding experience will look forward to the hostelry international banner promoting cultural understanding among the special group of people see it wherever they go in the world.

The continental breakfast consisted of bread/english muffin, apples, nutrigrain bars and oatmeal. The convenience of a full kitchen could offset that if you were prepared. The staff was super nice and helpful.

It was a pleasant temperature in Sacramento so no air conditioner nor heater was required. We had the windows open to let in the air but there are no screens on the windows so mosquitos came in and I was pretty bitten up by the morning. It is unclear as to whether they have air conditioning or not. They don't have an ice machine or ice available. Nice game room with a pool table, pinball, and foosball machines in the basement. Its too bad they don't have lounge chairs on the veranda. Desk was always staffed but a lot of homeless in the area so the front door was always locked. Very well managed.

Omg what was not good about the stay here. The place is beautiful it’s so close to Golden 1 Center if you’re looking for a place near that. The stay at the hostel itself is an experience. If you do not like rules though this may not be the place for you. Kitchen is open from 7am to 10pm which was very reasonable. You’re not allowed food in the bedrooms or drinks other than water, but once you see the rooms you understand why. Such a beautiful peaceful place, with amazing staff. Shoutout to Nova for checking us in and out they’re amazing! Also being from Nevada, we’re very used to hidden fees/deposits this place had none of that which was very appreciated. Planning on booking here again for sure❤️

It was great to be in a hostel environment again. They did provide the bedding, 2 pillows, and a towel. There was a continental breakfast. You help with stripping the bed and doing your own dishes. Nice to have option for longer stay to use fully equipped kitchen. There is a fenced lot if you have a car, of course there is an extra charge. The area was quiet enough at night. It is in a business district, and on a Sunday it was very quiet. Would stay here again.

Property is nice, but the location is right behind the city hall, where the homeless camp out unfortunately, just like most cities in California. Smell and noise level inside is much to be desired, as it's an old mansion without soundproofing. I was trying to get more sleep around 9:00 a.m. and, someone was banging the piano and singing out loud in the living room, which is right next to my room. It was probably better on the 2nd or 3rd level, but they only come with a shared bathroom. This is a good place if you're on a budget and a convenient 15 minute ride to the airport.

Amazing historic mansion with a beautiful interior and history. Because the place is historic, it is not well-insulated from outside noise. I stayed in room 22 at the back of the hostel, and it was very noisy beginning at 4 am with the surrounding construction noise and leaf blowers. Because this place is not in a residential district, it isn't subject to noise regulation hours. I used ear plugs on my second night.

I was visiting Sacramento to run CIM. When making the reservation for this hostel, I was looking for affordable and reasonable accommodations for my weekend stay here. With my 1st visit ever to Sacramento, I didn’t know what to expect. However, I have experienced many hostel stays in the past. I am so happy to report that I was blown away by the accommodations and the service provided by staff. This historic Victorian style building is well kept and has architecture you no longer see anymore. This hostel provides spacious rooms, adequate sleeping accommodations and better than timely in getting out the food in the morning and having the freshly brewed coffee ready to go.The staff were all very friendly and helpful in ensuring I had everything I needed. A special shoutout to HI staff member Kira, as she always exhibited an amazing positive attitude and made herself available to answer any questions I had and was great at suggesting restaurants and fun things to do around Sacramento. Everything is very clean and cozy and you can tell the management pays attention to little details like keeping fresh sponges in the kitchen area and ensuring the pillows and sheets are the most comfortable kind.
