Best Western Sandman Hotel

The bathtub was cleaned right in both rooms after switching me, found hairbon the first room bed, and sink was dirty, second room after change hair was all over the bathtub. I had to wash it off and run the water to clean it so I can shower. Gave up on trying to get an other room. Also the lobby bathroom was out of order almost peeded my self due to no bathroom available. Also book said check out is 12pm but got a call saying chreck out is 11am. They were nice checked put at 11 30pm

I was put up in another room where there wasn’t a TV remote, shower head was spraying everywhere and something was wrong with the AC, it was very loud and let in a ton of moisture, also the bed either had starched sheets or they wrapped mattress in plastic, I woke up sweaty wet many times. One of the good things was they have laundry room. Worded part about this stay was it costed me about the same as Hilton or Marriott would have.

Selected the property because it was inexpensive Room was dirty: sheets didn’t look like they had been changed since they had some crust and stains, there was tiny pieces of glass in the sheets so we slept on top of the sheets, and walking around the hotel room turned our feet black and floor felt grainy.

Absolutely nothing! Absolutely terrible experience. The biggest issue was the complete lack of communication from the staff and management. Customer service was practically nonexistent. Staff members were unhelpful. Don't waste your time, money, or energy. There are plenty of other places that will treat you with far more respect and professionalism.

The staff was friendly Aged, bugs in the room, and the pool light was drug across the pool bottom. The homeless was really disappointing for a mom and daughter to stay at. Breakfast was sad.

At the time they were having issues with the door cards. Every day our keys wouldn't open the doors requiring maintenance to come to the room and reprogram the locks and cards. This required frequent trips to the lobby desk to get help. Our microwave was not plugged in - we had to move the desk combination to access the plug. Again the staff handled all of these inconveniences graciously. We love this location and have stayed here often - these glitches are not common to this location. We'll be back and encourage others to stay here.

We left and went to Govenors Inn just down the road which was lovely.

When we went down to have breakfast at 8:30 there was nothing hot left and one woman would not move away from pancake machine. I did not end up staying to eat, didn’t want cereal

Booked the hotel a month in advance for memorial day weekend. We traveled as a band for a show we had in Sacramento. We checked in after our show to find that the room key reader was dead. The desk person said there was nothing he could do to get us into the room and there were no other vacancies so he would have to cancel our stay and refund us. It was a busy weekend, so we spent the following hour having to scramble for a last minute room somewhere and had to drive about an hour away to a room we finally found with open vacancies.

Everything from check in yo checkout was easy. Rooms were clean and breakfast was good. The only suggestions I have are maybe mattress toppers for the beds as it was a bit uncomfortable. I know that beds are a personal preference, but both my husband and I agreed that it wasnt the most comfortable. Everything else was perfect! As a plus the location was very close to Old Sacramento which made getting there and back easy!

Conversations are minimum and short into the point. Overall, the place was decent. But looks run down ideal stay when you're on a budget. And you're not gonna stay very long. Just somewhere to sleep at night.

The hotel stay was just okay. It seemed like an old apartment complex or motel that had just been purchased by best western. You could tell they were renovating & trying to make improvements. Breakfast was good & the dining hall was great. Our room had a broken iron & they replaced it swiftly. The locks on the door were very old fashioned chains & didn’t feel safe with people also living in & hanging around the units out front. I definitely wouldn’t stay here with children but comfortable enough for two adults for a single night.

However, I found a cockroch in a room and there could be flooding after shower in the bathroom. Door was not locked well. not enough parking spaces.

The chair had a spider crawl out of the bottom of it . Not a good place to stay .

Parking was terrible. Was told i could request a roon with a balcony upon arrival, that was a lie. The pool was one of the dirtiest ive seen. Luckily they had a pool broom and net available, so i could spend the next 30 minutes cleaning "their" pool, so my 2 kids could have some sort of pool time. One of the queen beds was sunken in the middle and around midnight, the thermostat batteries were too low to have adequate cooling in the room. Son also got locked in the bathroom for a good 5 minutes before i could get him out (faulty door lock). Should have just canceled the reservation when i checked in and saved myself the stress.

One night, there was an arguement in the parking lot at midnight that woke me up. Not the hotel's fault, but a result of the neighborhood. Other than that, my stay was quiet and peaceful.

They gave away the upgraded room we paid for and it was overall just disgusting. To top it all off the AC wouldn’t work and they had to get someone out just to get it going. Even after the handyman/security guard worked on it it still wouldn’t blow cool air.

We booked this room last minute and because of that reason, it was fine. However, there were several issues and I would not stay here again. The key they gave us for the door did not work and we had to return to the office. After reprogramming it, it still barely worked. The bed was uncomfortable and we found a stain on one of the sheets. Otherwise the room was clean. Unfortunately, it doesn't end there. The tv was not working correctly. There was a huge gap in our door so we could hear everything from the stairwell that was right outside our room. I can't speak on the breakfast because we didn't eat there. They have security patrolling and signs in the parking lot saying they are not responsible for theft or damages. So be aware of the environment.

The Check In was a smooth process, Nice Customer Service,The Room was decent, the bed not the worst or best. Their was hair in the tub,more detailed sanitation clean is needed. For the location, price I'd stay again. Nice outdoor patio, no chair or table could use one. The Mexican Restaurant was good,would recommend eating there. Overall good stay.

I arrived late on a train, and the hotel accommodated me quickly and efficiently. Even at a late hour, someone was there to greet me with my key, so check-in took no time at all. Breakfast was warm, light, and enjoyable. I was pleasantly surprised by how clean the hotel was, as well as the comfortable seating areas—especially given the part of Sacramento I was in. Overall, a great experience for travelers, and I would highly recommend it

Stayed 3 nights with my family. Was able to request a room facing the river which was nice. Staff was generally very nice and accommodating, except for the last day. The Latina in charge of breakfast was extremely rude (in contrast to the welcoming and fantastic African American lady we interacted with the first two days). She did not want to add any hot food to the breakfast even though there was 15 minutes left. She also turned off the light and the TV in the dining room while we had just sat down to eat. The Latina front desk clerk offered no help when we complained about the rudeness of the lady in charge of the breakfast. The two ladies marred what had been an excellent stay to that point.

The room was sort of clean… when we turned on the shower the water started coming out brown. Breakfast was mid. Not terrible, but not great. Beds were not comfy.

Distance to Old Sac, DOCO & K St were in walking distance. I had came back to my room around 8:30 at night to a homeless man laying in front of my door. My room # was 203, kinda tucked away. Kinda scary to be honest. Then again the area isn't the best either.

I checked in that went well staff was nice. I get to my room they there is only 1 bar of soap to wash your hands after bathroom use and to wash your body. I went to the front desk to ask for an additional bar of soap and they didn’t have not one more single bar of soap which I found very disappointing. They gave me a room that has a patio, but there’s no patio furniture to sit on which I found strange. The area of the hotel is not save a lot of homeless sitting on stairs near our door entrance and walking around the area. I wouldn’t recommend if you have small kids if you’re looking for something cheap and simple then this is the place for you.

Staff was pleasant, floor seemed to have only been dry swept. Not great if you have little ones that are crawlers as mine got grey from being on the floor for a short time. Parking close to room was great.

The room was. Lean a d the bed comfortable. The restaurant on the premises was very good. The staff wS freindly We prepaid for the room through booking. The front desk person said they don't except that and then charged my bank card the price of the room plus a hundred dollar deposit. So I was charged twice. The next day the manager told me I would be refunded. I am still wIting for the refund and my deposit. It's only been 5 days so we'll see

It was very quiet. The staff was great. The maintenance person was working the whole time to keep the parking lot and the pools clean from falling tree fuzz. Location was perfect. Can’t wait to go back. Next time I’ll take the Amtrak train from Fresno.

The location. The homeless lighting fires every night filling my room with smoke, while other homeless try to break in through my window. Whole property smells like piss and human feces. If you stay for long periods housekeeping is non existent. Only push policies when it is convenient for them.

Its hard to rate because the room was good, there was lots of free coffee in the room, a fridge and microwave, comfy bed, decent shower, it was quiet, great lighting in the room, the free breakfast was good, and so was the pool and hot tub area. But the location was very sketchy (though close to downtown and the golden one center) and some of the rooms in the back actually backed up to homeless camps just over the fence and behind some shrubs. I didnt feel safe walking to the room at night and was worried about my car getting broken into. But nothing bad happened and the room is 1/3 the price of many in the area. A great value if youre adventurous. Hard to rate because of this. Id say 6.5 out of 10.

We did not stay at the hotel. We checked in and went to the room but the condition and the smell of the room was awful so we immediately packed our bags and notified the front desk we would not be staying. I understand this is meant to be an affordable motel but this was terrible.

Nice conveniently located stay. Right off the freeway. Close walk to the waterfront and access to the river path nextdoor. Hot tub could’ve been hotter and cleaner. Pool was cold but refreshing. Love having a complimentary Breakfast. The options were great, the attendant was present and friendly. Beds were very comfortable, the hide-a-bed is not. Go to Neda’s, the Mexican restaurant, in the parking lot. It is amazing!!

This hotel checked all the boxes for me plus the mexican restaurant next door is good too. Breakfast is good and I loved the pancake machine. Its an easy 1 mile or so drive into Sac but not walking distance for me. We were in town for the cone head concert and close to the venue.

Staff was nice, but didn’t seem to know how to look up reservations. 2 people ahead of us and it took just under 1 hour for them to get us our rooms. During that time, 4 other people came in saying they were given non-working room key cards. Once we had our room key, we found out that they assigned us to a storage closet. No joke. A security guard intervened when he saw us trying to use our key card on room 119 that clearly states it is storage only, and he was very helpful because staff ignored us when we went back inside. He helped us get reassigned to an actual room with beds.

Beds moved a lot, some outlets didn’t work, restroom was way too small (fan didn’t work), not as expected as what i saw online.

In the morning the fuse went out and we couldn’t see very well to get ready as it happened at the sink and mirror area and they wanted to move us to a different room to get ready but it was clear down the hall and we didn’t have time luckily my husband had a flash light so we could see.. The hotel service and room was terrible and would never stay there again!! All they offered was points that I don’t need!! Would love to have had a refund!

Front Desk Carlos was vey efficient and friendly. Clean room and QUIET. We were in the building farthest away from the highway so freeway noise was not an issue. Would like to see some free weights in the small weight room

It doesn't take a lot of work to just touch up paint and fill areas that the molding Has Come away from the wall, etc. That would make a huge difference.One light bulb didn't work and another lamp didn't work at all. Again they seem like small things but all added up does make a difference. Overall very acceptable. I would stay again. The Mexican tile detail looks really nice.

The entire reason we booked this hotel, was because it had a pool and hot tub, the hot tub wasn’t working and the pool was freezing. Lots of sketchy characters around the property, also it’s a motel, not a hotel. The door key was half broken and wouldn’t let us into our own room half the time. We had the get the front of house staff to open our door on multiple occasions. Breakfast was pretty subpar, and seating is cramped. Also The lights in the room are blinding iredescent bulbs, felt more like a hospital than a bedroom. Would not return, also Sacramento is gross.

Stayed at this hotel for Aftershock festival and it’s been my favorite to stay at so far. Room was very clean, spacious and beds were comfy. Loved the amenities and the breakfast was delicious. Very easy and quick to walk to discovery park. The gas station is easy to get to and there’s a Mexican restaurant on property. I hope I can book here again for next time.

There are a lot of homeless roaming the area. At midnight my car alarm went off. Believed someone tried to open the door. There was a security guard at night, but he arrived after the alarm timed out. Couldn't get much rest for the rest of the night.

Not enough breakfast for whole stay duration period. Had to wait for limited food being prepared by rations. Last day of Sunday was even worse when we were told that the manager who wasn't on duty decided what breakfast to be served to people. Worse service ever, very poor, will NEVER recommend to anyone.

They couldn't find our reservation through Expedia even after I gave him the number and all information. He was also not apologetic and didn't offer to continue to book us a room so we went elsewhere. Service was terrible.

Not a bad place for the price. Had to change rooms initially because the first room did not have a working lock or a working Air Conditioner.

Had a nice stay. We had issues getting into our room due to the key card not working. Security was helpful and helped us get in.

Nice property, good breakfast. Area around the property, homeless situation, make it feel sketchy to be out on foot day or night.

It is a great place to stay.

I like that the staff was friendly, but I didn’t like that. I reported that I needed someone to come and fix the ceiling and while we were there for two days, they didn’t come inside to fix it even before I left I let them know, but they didn’t do anything about it.

I like that the staff was friendly, I didn’t like that I reported a piece of a ceiling coming off and they didn’t fix it. I reported it on the first day that I got there and they said they would come and fix it and they didn’t fix it even after I left, it was still on the ground. There was also a roach in my bedroom so I wouldn’t recommend or I wouldn’t stay there again.

The night clerk is incredibly rude and dismissive. Horrible experience. DO NOT go here!!!

We had a sick back patio that was nice and private, and the hot tub was open late. It was also very close to the airport.

The morning staff was great and hard working. Thank you for keeping the breakfast well stocked and we appreciated the art towel in the rooms.

Horrible! Huge bugs, dirty room, AC didn’t work, would have left and found somewhere else if it wasn’t already 2:00 am by the time we got in. only thing that was good was the person working was extremely nice and tried as best as possible to help us.

Horrible old motel that should not be in the Best Western chain. Nothing about my stay there was good and will certainly never go back!

Pleasant one-night stay. The king bedroom was clean and spacious. Friendly staff. They offer free continental breakfast plus there's a Mexican restaurant located at the front of the property which is nice since the hotel isn't in a walkable area.

More of a truck stop. Dirty parking lot. Bed was comfortable and Bedding seemed clean. Quiet nights rest. Nice Mexican restaurant right beside. Found false eyelashes stuck to lamp and wall. Toilet rocked when you sat on it. Bathroom fan very loud. Entire place run down.

We stayed one night on our way to Portland. Room was clean and free breakfast offered.

Just stayed for a night as I was traveling south, however it was long enough to make a strong impression. Room was noisy and smelled of smoke. Cigarette burns on my bed spread. Area was close to the highway, but not overly inviting. The only redeeming quality is the receptionist who as polite. I would recommend looking elsewhere if you find yourself needing a hotel in Sacramento.

We usually come here when transiting Sacramento. The rooms are clean and the staff is prompt and courteous. The local PD needs to clean up the area. This isn’t the hotel’s fault. The satellite TV reception is poor in the evening in Room 130. The wifi works well. We’ll stay here again.

The hotel was nice for the price. Clean, comfortable, good breakfast. Friendly service. However it was really noisy. There seems to be a lot of people living at the hotel long term. They were very loud. Arguing and babies crying at 3-4 am. The people across from me were very loud in the early morning. Pounding on the door and loud talking in the hallway. Not good for business travelers.

Lots of homeless around area, but not on property.

It was convenient to where I needed to be, right off of I-5 in downtown Sac, far enough away from the the main downtown area but only a few mins drive. Only 4.8 miles to the Arden Fair Mall. The staff member who checked us in was nice and allowed us to select either 2nd floor or 1st floor. We have a King size bed with a pullout sofa bed. The vinyl floors are like new, countertops look pretty new, beds are comfortable. The parking has a secure fence that is locked at big hot except for right at the main office for occupants to come and go. If I needed to stay close to downtown Sacramento again I would stay here again.

Staffs are very nice. The facilities are a little old. However, it is very clean, which is more important to me. Good experience!

Smoke detector went off while i was half way through my shower, thought the hotel was on fire. Grabbed my stuff and realized there’s no fire…. Front desk didn’t even know the alarm was going off

Convenient location to I-5 & downtown.

Stayed in room 115 the air conditioning was horrible made the loudest noises even when switched off kept me up all night and also since it’s kinda a corner room people stand out in from of room to smoke and keep you up!! Because seems like that is the only place where they have an ash tray… also the bathroom door didn’t shut and the left corner on the bottom off the bed was broken so it would tilt…

The staff is exceptional. Always friendly, and professional, and friendly! (did I mention that already?!) They were always willing to help

Friendly staff, clean room. Mattress was kinda old and creaky. Mexican restaurant in the parking lot is pretty good and super convenient.

Bed sheets and towels were stained, room smelled a lot like bleach, breakfast was not good. The shower curtain was short that it made the water come out and had to use my towels to dry floor.

Staff let someone unauthorized into our room and lots of personal items were stolen

great staff-easy access to freeway but relatively quiet rooms. Had a homeless guy try to park near our room in his car. when i alerted staff they promptly asked him to leave and he did.

The receptionist was amazing, recommended us where we could eat dinner, excellent choice. The room was as expected, and can’t complain for the price paid.

LITERAL ROACH MOTEL. Large dead roach by toilet, live roach in bathtub, and live roaches in room by fridge and desk. White comforters covered in gross stains. Tweakers in the parking lot and dancing in the streets. It was late when I arrived but after roaches skittered around my feet I bailed and didnt stay the night, ended up sleeping in my car in a truckstop parking lot and still got a better sleep then I would have if I'd stayed. DO NOT BOOK HERE UNLESS YOU LIKE ROACHES, TWEAKERS AND MYSTERY STAINS.

Affordable but located in a part of town with many homeless roaming about. A bit rougher than expected. Safe for a layover or cheap bed but not a family place

The rooms were dirty, stains everywhere, towels are old and dirty. The bedsheets are old and dirty, the bathroom was dirty all three days of my stay. Maybe this is ok by Best Western standards. I would not recommend it.

The staff are very helpful and nice! Very nice hotel. The only thing is they need to had more towels. How can you book a room with double beds but only get 2 towels. But overall my favorite.
