Reviews
The Berkeley Hotel receives mixed reviews, with guests appreciating its historic charm, friendly staff, and convenient location. However, the hotel's need for updates, inconsistent cleanliness, and lack of amenities are frequently mentioned concerns.
- Historic charm and character
- Friendly and helpful staff
- Outdated facilities and furnishings
- Inconsistent cleanliness and maintenance

Staff are all so kind and helpful Will be here again

Lovely room, quiet, in heart of a good restaurant area
- 3/5
A nicely remodeled space, the rooms were larger than expeced adn everything was clean. Only a few issues that made this stay not your typical Hilton stay. There
- 4.5/5
Nice room! Comfortable bed. Large, clean bathroom. Not much of a lobby. No bar/ restau. I found the heating system noisy. I tried to lower the fan, thinking maybe that would make it quieter, but couldn’t figure out how.
- 4/5
We cycled in and the room was excellent. Sadly the door man did not hold the door open when we arrived or departed with our bicycles and the receptionist did not have a professional response when I rung the bell to find her. However, another receptionist was friendly, and the location was excellent, so I would stay here again. (4 stars)

- 5/5
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at The Berkeley. It was so nice to walk outside right into the cobblestone street and explore the historic neighborhood.
- 4.5/5
The hotel is still under renovations, but our room was complete and it was lovely. I like staying in historic spaces and this one ticked that box. Pricey - we paid $350 and probably could have found a more reasonable hotel.
- 4/5
Very good
- 3/5
Parking too much $$$, hotel and room not very clean.
- 4/5
We arrived at 9 PM to check in only to find out that the restaurant and bar on the property are not open because they were being renovated. So that was disappointing because we were tired and hungry. Otherwise the property is very nice. Location is great, and the staff was very helpful.
- 5/5
Clean and helpful staff. Nice amenities.
- 5/5
place to stay in richmond
- 4/5
The biggest problem with our stay was the amount of street noise. There seems to be alot of traffic on the road noise including trucks. The resturant is not yet operational so we have no comment. Parking doesn't exist valet only.

Localization. A hotel with great aspirations that falls short. The reception area is so small that it can barely accommodate six people standing in line. The receptionist tried to charge me again, and there was a noticeable hint of annoyance when I showed her that I had already paid through Booking.com. The hotel smelled strongly of marijuana, as did the room — but especially the towels. The room was not cleaned during my three-day stay, supposedly because “I had not requested it properly.” After I formally submitted the cleaning request the “proper” way, it still was not done; all I received were two “sorrys.” While the hotel is centrally located in Richmond, that alone does not justify the price. They aspire to be a great hotel and charge like one, but they are far from it. What exactly is the supervisor doing?
- 5/5
Our room appeared to be recently renovated and we enjoyed the decor as well as all of the amenities.
- 5/5
Very clean and newly remodeled rooms. The rooms are very spacious.
- 4/5
We stayed while the hotel was still renovating. The room was very well appointed, and clean. There was a lot of street noise due to a bar across the street, which might impact light sleeper (who should request rooms not facing Cary St.). They had excellent valet parking. Staff was excellent, and it truly is a nice boutique hotel, well located in the historic district.
- 4/5
The design is not my taste - but the room was large and comfortable. Liked being on the front of the hotel - looking at the street. The hotel is under renovation - always hard - but i had not stayed at the Berkley in years and was glad to be back! Coffee service in the morning! Keurig in the room - but nothing beats a coffee service in the lobby. Creates a homey feel and is a great service. More explanation about the valet parking - bit of a disconnect there. Was there just after the transition to Hilton management. Pretty good - but sure there are things to work through.

Great Hotel Stay…
- 5/5
This is a beautiful hotel on a nice cobblestone, tree-lined street. The room was very comfortable and modern. It was easy to check-in and fairly easy to find street parking nearby. Would stay here again.
- 3.5/5
The room was nice and comfortable. I like that it did have a fridge and microwave. The bathroom was large. And there was a nice sized closet and lots of drawers. They have a policy that if you want room service you have to let them know the day before. We did let them know and yet they kept forgetting. We were there 3 days and each time they forgot. Also there was no hair dryer and we had to call 2 time to get it because they forgot again.
- 2/5
The hotel is going through a renovation which was not disclosed to us when booking. The resturant and bar were closed. We rode in the "service" elevator 90% of the time. There is tile missing on the floors which is a trip hazard. Construction materials/equipment throughout. Wont go back unless thye reach out to us with an offer to give us another chance to visit when renovationtiosn are complete.
- 2/5
I haven’t stayed in a place this awful since I was in college. I am beyond mystified how it could be rated the way it is and there are no warnings about the condition of the hotel prior to booking. They’re doing some kind of renovation, but they haven’t gotten very far and the place is a literal mess. The lobby is in shambles. The rooms are outdated and dark and there’s just nothing positive I can say. The TV had no streaming available and no premium channels and no guide. So in order to find anything to watch, we had to click through and wait for the system to catch up to show. It was what it was until we moved on to the next. We actually set our alarm for 2 AM this morning so we could get out of there as soon as possible after sleeping for a handful of hours.
- 5/5
If you are looking for a 60s type experience, you found it at Berkley Hotel. I enjoyed the feel and look, even though when I stopped by they were remodeling. Remodeling to maintain that 60s feel, I might add.
- 5/5
The room was very spacious, well appointed and recently renovated. We had a great experience. The lobby was under renovation and not spectacular and appearance, but look forward to seeing it when it’s finished. The staff was very friendly and helpful.
- 4/5
The facility is presently being renovated so there are no amenities, the restaurant/bar is closed, no gym... etc. but the rooms have been renovated and are wonderful.
- 5/5
Doorman and Front Desk both very attentive and polite.
- 4.5/5
Superb
- 5/5
Only nit to pick: the coffee maker didn’t work.
- 4/5
Location is great. Overall everything was good, the A/C vent blew down in one direction, so a fan of some kind would be nice to get the cool air moving in the room. The hotel is under construction and restaurant is not opened, which was a little inconvenient. It would have been nice to know before arriving. The staff was friendly.
- 5/5
they were remodeling so the restaurant was closed but other than that, amenities were fine.
- 4/5
We visited at the end of April. The rooms are retro and mine was just renovated. Saying that most of the hotel is in disarray due to renovation. Staff was friendly and the room was clean, bed was comfortable, room was bigger than average. But, I will probably go back to TRU for amenities and just value it’s a better value.
- 4/5
Helpful information conveyed by staff regarding parking. Room large and comfortable in spite of renovations underway.
- 2/5
Parking is difficult and expensive. Renovations underway, but guests not told so until the day of. The lobby and entry areas are construction zones and messy. Elevator floor is cracked. The rooms are badly dated. I was kept awake for three hours in middle of night by noisy guests nearby. No breakfast, no snacks or drinks in the lobby. This place should be CLOSED until it is completely upgraded. A mess. don't make the mistake I did.
- 4/5
Need for better TV options - channels were not same as listed and no guide to see what was on . Smart tv’s would be nice
- 5/5
It’s a beautiful hotel, altogether ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Nothing really
- 5/5
Our room was superb! It was newly decorated, very clean and so spacious. One of the best rooms I have stayed in an hotel.
- 3/5
They didn’t give us new towels.

Comfortable and modern rooms Helpful friendly staff
- 5/5
For April 2026, the hotel's under light renovation. What is pictured on the app is inaccurate - it's much more modern with a grey/gold aesthetic as the partnership with Hilton begins. We booked the king with terrace view & loved it. It was a very private feeling experience. The lobby is still being painted & there's a new bistro being constructed, but the staff gave us recommendations for great food nearby! For a hotel experience, we enjoyed the atmosphere & seeing the growth of change around us, comparing the old vs new. We ordered dinner in & chose to people watch from our private balcony. Plumbing has clearly been updated because the shower water was perfect and the temps set to amazing. They could have maintained the balcony drain pipe - there are still weeds and plants growing out. I do recommend you be wary there isn't any dampening of noise for other guests. We were startled awake after 2am when the guests next door came to their room and turned on their balcony light after their door slammed shut. Otherwise, highly recommend the visit.
- 4/5
The property was lovely but was under renovation, so the restaurant was closed and they didn't serve breakfast. But the suite was great and the hospitality was very warm. It's unfortunate that this lovely boutique property will become a Hilton. But this stay was very nice!!

Valet could have opened the door for us, but hey? Maybe he was upset we didnt use valet. The do have valet for a nearby garage . Didnt use the resturant or bar, acne in late and remodeling was happening in lobby area .

- 5/5
Everything was beautiful
- 5/5
The room was very spacious and equipped with a full size fridge and sink for a family of 4 with kids. Valet was available and were prompt with our vehicle when needed. Our stay was excellent for the weekend.
- 4/5
The room was very clean and recently updated, thankfully; however, the hotel was basically empty, seemed to be running with a (polite and helpful) skeleton crew, and basically a construction zone. The restaurant and bar weren't open because of the renovations, which was a little inconvenient. I think we'd return once renovations are complete because we loved the convenience of the location, and I'm sure it'll be beautiful once it's finished.

Would be higher but the property was under renovation.

AC was terrible in first room I was assigned, but the very lovely evening manager (Alfreida) fixed the issue for me immediately and ensured I was taken care of. Will now be a regular, loved my stay. Only pray the construction will be over soon...
- 5/5
Although they were undergoing renovations, we had an excellent day. Rooms were clean and updated. Convenient location.
- 3/5
I was disappointed that it was not disclosed to me at booking that the property is under renovation and no breakfast would be offered due to the closure of the restaurant.
- 0.5/5
The only thing that went well was that I was able to cancel the reservation. That's it. To my dismay, and contrary to the photos advertising the hotel when I booked a room there, I arrived to find the place under construction. The registration desk was cover with so much dust I could have written my name in it. Dust from the workers' machines was flying threw the air. They had no air purifiers and nothing else to ameliorate the situation, not even masks. Despite the front desk person saying the rooms were fine, mine was also so dusty I couldn't breathe and had to haul my luggage back downstairs and leave.

The room had new finishes with bathroom, bed, tv, but the noise from the construction during the days made it impossible to work in the room. No rod to hang clothes either. On the first night i found that the shower drain was clogged and dirt coming up from the pipe. I informed the manager and was told it would be fixed the next day. Next night, same issue and even worse, the toilet started to leak and wouldn't flush. I packed my bags and asked for another room and was told they had none and they had no interest in helping me. Disgraceful. Stay clear of this place - even if it was being updated, the new fixtures were not done right, no warning, and the staff couldn't care less. Orbitz got me a partial refund but the experience ruined my entire wknd.

The room was clean. Microwave did not work TV kept freezing up and they were doing a renovation which they should’ve gave her a discount no bar no continental breakfast.

We have stayed here many times and have always been completely satisfied. The hotel is undergoing major renovations we were not aware of. Our newly renovated room was lovely and extremely large. Location is terrific and staff always friendly.
- 3/5
Probably a great place. Our room was excellent but the construction made everything a mess. When the construction is complete I’d give it a higher grade.

Classic style. Good ice. Neat decor. Limited restaurant hours. Outdated restaurant. Slow elevators. Lack of smart tv.
- 0.5/5
It was in a central location The room wasn’t clean when we checked in. We requested that it be cleaned and the manager said no one was available to clean it. The next morning we spoke to a maid in the hallway and asked her to please clean and sweep the floor. The floor was absolutely disgusting. With cups, candy wrappers, dirt, trash and nail clippings everywhere! I took a video and have proof. When we returned back to our room, the maid still did not sweep the floor. She only left clean towels. We were so disgusted and did not feel comfortable sleeping in the bed. We tried to find another hotel but everything was booked. We decided to go home a day early and we were told by the hotel manager Alfreda, that she would contact booking.com to issue a full refund.

From the moment we entered the Berkeley, the staff was friendly. The service was great! The room was clean and lovely. We had a great stay! We will definitely be returning.

Under renovations when we visited. Not revealed before we booked
- 4/5
Location is great. quite a bit of street noise, particularly the backing truck at 4 am
- 3.5/5
Location and I liked the room I stayed in. I felt the price was too much since the place was under construction and looked terrible in the halls and elevators. I didn’t see any room service either. Also, someone on our floor was smoking so much weed day and night and it came into our room at times. Thought there was a no smoking policy. Also the terrace was kind of a shared space with a window from the hall looking in. I didn’t like that. You could walk right up to the neighboring room if you really wanted. Also, there were dirty cigarette butts all over the floor of the terrace.
- 4/5
Good location and view of the city though I don’t sleep with night lights.
- 5/5
The room itself was very spacious and clean. Had a microwave and fridge and good sized shower. The only small negative was the hallways were quite dated, although it looks like there's some renovations going on. The state of the hallways definitely don't transfer into the rooms though. A fantastic hotel. Also there's no garage parking directly tied to the hotel, but there are 2 garages very close by.
- 2/5
The property was undergoing renovation which was not mentioned prior to booking. The 2nd floor where I stayed was a dusty and smelly as was my room. I had the most awful night unable to sleep due to the dust and odor. A true "bait and switch" operation.
- 3/5
The room was a little dirty (counters not clean, hair shavings on the counter in the shower, toothpick and q-tip on floor in bathroom). Under renovation so smelled like paint, No longer has a gym affiliation and parking higher than 40 advertised on Hotels.com
- 5/5
Great location and plenty of restaurants if you don’t want to stay at the hotel for dinner.
- 5/5
Hotel is being renovated. Room was excellent. Had an enjoyable meal in the dining room.
- 4/5
The Berkeley is really trying to improve, and it’s better than it used to be. My room was fantastic, but the hallway leading to it felt scary. The restaurant could be wonderful, but they were out of a lot of things. The property is beautiful but the staff were rude. The Berkeley is so close to being wonderful.
- 3/5
The hotel is currently under some renovation. You may want to delay your stay at this hotel.

Don't book your Reservations January 17th for March 7th stay for 5 adults on Expedia for a room that says will accommodate 5 people and expect a room that will actually accommodate 5 adults, because thwy only gave us a room with 2 double beds. In the photos online shows a sofa also. Management was like sorry we cant help you since you booked through Expedia, even though they give the i fo to Expedia to sell. No roll away bed, said too booked that night. No extra blanket either. One of our person slept on the floor with a sheet. They had over a mibth and a half to message me and let me knkw the room actuality only slept 4 adult people. Will not be back.

Bar/restaurant didn’t open till 6. Should have had some kind of snacks for air travelers. The room was beautiful and had updated lighting fixtures for charging. When completed and restaurant is open for breakfast it will be a very upscale hotel. The location is just right.

The hotel is outdated, even the updated rooms. It’s very dark The restaurant staff was not friendly and the lobby/restaurant smelled like cigarette smoke. They lock the doors at night and give you a key to get in, which made me feel very unsafe about the area.

Clean, attractive. Two anomalies. Shower needs a shower caddy or equiv. No where to hold soap and shampoo. Second unusual in a better hotel to have a dog howling in the next suite while owners go out on the town. I dont know if youre listed as pet friendly!

This hotel was absolutely wonderful and in a perfect location. The Front desk was kind and very helpful on everything level . The room was very quiet and clean — I loved the hotel. The Valet service especially Angel was extremely helpful, kind and courteous and was the best part of my stay at the Berkeley. It’s the small details that matter and valet service like Angel makes the difference in a hotel stay. The Berkeley hotel is my hotel for all my trips to Richmond and make sure to ask for Angel — he is one of the best !!!

We have stayed at the Berkeley for years. This stay was very disappointing. Renovations are underway so check in was noisy. Our room had no hangers, there was no shelf in the shower, and it took 10 minutes running water to get any hot water. The bathroom door had glass panels and automatic motion sensor lights, so when you entered the person sleeping was awake by the lights. The auto on light was on for about 10 seconds so it went off while you were in the bathroom. Poorly designed

great location. Loved the renovations being made but obviously not completed yet. Bed was super comfortable and loved room set up. There were no glasses or sliverware and only a curtain rod for hanging clothes and shower curtain. Again I am sure in the process of renovation. But truly loved the look and feel of room. Wanted to eat brunch on Sunday but restaurant not open.

The location was perfect. The lobby was and room was beautiful. In our closet, the hanger rod was not permanently fixed, and wouldn’t hold our clothes. No dresser, only a couple small drawers near fridge. The TV didn’t work, even after the front desk sent someone to fix it.

I've stayed here a few times now, and it's convenient, but not a four-star property. You will be unhappy in the unrenovated rooms: the thermostat inevitably doesn't work properly, the mattress is hard/lumpy, and some linens literally threadbare/frayed. The new design is sophisticated enough, with a *great* lighting plan (integrated, intuitive, right color temp), comfortable bed, responsive thermostat, and roller shades with edges covered by slats. But even with that, you quickly notice issues: a clogged shower drain leaving you racing to shower quickly before it overflowed; another one with no niche for your items so you have to leave them on the floor and a shower handle either broken or installed incorrectly, making it hard to get warm water or to turn it off when it got scalding. Even little things: there's no extra blanket; all the pillows are the same overfilled poly, too tall for your neck; at late night, they blocked the door with a trash can, making the lobby smell like garbage. More importantly, they should have taken all that $$ and invested it in soundproofing: you hear the elevator, people in the hallway, the construction on the floor above, & the cleaning crew outside. Not that I would have needed that, because (despite the DND tag) they not only knocked on my door but called to see if I was still there (yes but no longer asleep). The woman on duty was very professional and apologetic but others less so. I'll stay here if my fav hotel is booked/too pricey but FYI

Clean. Newly remodeled. Polite staff.
- 4/5
Staff was wonderful. Just wish the heat would stay set and that there was a channel guide for the television
- 2/5
Hotel was under renovation so service was lacking - room was not serviced - a chain driven window shade was broken and would not close - advised housekeeping but was told it could not be fixed so the city lights shined in all night - no place in the nice large shower to set soap or shampoo - the bar/restaurant closed early - valet parking takes too long to retrieve a vehicle - I used the app as instructed but 10 minutes later when I went down he had not seen my request so we waited 15 more minutes - this cost too much for this level of service and amenities - hope it gets better when their renovation is done.
- 5/5
Undergoing renovation, but a delightful stay nonetheless. Great location, charming lobby, welcoming staff, modern room. We got back late from the hospital after our daughter’s surgery, and the staff in the dining room made room for us even though they were closed for a private function earlier in the evening. So grateful!
- 3/5
Friendly and helpful staff. Room could have been cleaner; stain on comforter and light switches were visibly grimy. No hangers in closet. Nice balcony and room was spacious.
- 5/5
Great experience and hospitality! Thank you
- 1/5
The hotel was undergoing renovations, which was not disclosed as far as I saw until we saw a sign in the lobby. Constant loud noise above our room — sounded like a jackhammer was ripping the floor out above us. This went on all day, even on Thanksgiving Day — we needed to vacate the room to get away from it. Also, be aware of valet hours. The valet doesn’t come on until 7am, so if you need to leave early, you’ll want to park on the streets in the neighborhood and risk it.
- 5/5
Elegant and quiet hotel, but very proximately situated to downtown Richmond and the Shockoe Slip area!
- 5/5
Very helpful and concern re 2 older guests very accommodating staff and very cozy
- 4/5
A good stay once I got a room with a view. The first room I was offered faced a brick wall 2 yards away, the next faced large air conditioning units, the third one was excellent with rooftop view.
- 1/5
Room was too hot to sleep. Thermostats had limit at 68. Could not change to 67. It was a hot 68 in the room

Very rundown hotel. Staff was good.

- 3/5
Room was beautiful. Bed and pillows were 5 star. Hotel was under construction, so it was very noisy. Had to schedule maid service multiple times before they would actually do it. Room had no table or chairs so it was difficult to eat in the room.
- 4/5
Still have renovations during my stay
- 3/5
Newly renovated room so that is a plus. Room was not quite ready for prime time though. TV had no service. The sconce lights behind the bed were not hooked up. The redesigned bathroom was awkward. You either have to squeeze past the toilet to reach the shower knob, or just get in the shower, walk over to the controls and turn it on and wait for the water to get hot. Ice machine did not work on our floor and since every floor is unique, and some are under construction it was an adventure to find ice. The restaurant does not offer breakfast so pack snacks.
- 5/5
Clean and updated room. The staff is amazing.

- 5/5
Lovely large quiet room.
- 4/5
Staff was friendly and helpful. Rooms were clean; however, they are in dire need of a remodel. Furniture is dated and the carpet was old and wavy. It would not be good for an elderly person with mobility issues--too much of a trip hazard. Bathrooms seem to have been remodeled, but not the room itself. Bar staff did not know what they were doing
- 5/5
Professional, courteous staff
- 3/5
Upon check in the valet and Noah at the front desk were very friendly and helpful. The room was fantastoc and larger than expected. The bathrooms are slightly dated. In the room there is a promotion card under the glass top at the TV to order food/room service from the hotel restaurant. However after an attempt at dinner and then again at breakfast there was no change to the prompt and would only allow you to order drinks. Would recommend that the promotion to order food/room service until the option becomes available again.
- 4/5
No balcony. Old outdated room. Windows not sealed shut and loud noise outside. Nice helpful staff.
- 4/5
There were some renovations going on but it was still nice and relatively quiet. It was convenient walk to the event we were attending, as well as to restaurants. Cute little area of Richmond.
- 2/5
Room very old and musty. Disappointed with bathroom, lighting, carpeting, bedding, etc.
- 5/5
Perfect location. Beautiful spacious room. Good bed.

- 4/5
comfortable room , recently updated and remodeled. wish their nice big screen TV had system to go in and be able to stream shows by connecting to one's phone which many hotels offer......they isn't much to see these days on cable TV, would love if at least some breakfast items were available for early morning ( say 6:30 am) departures to train station
- 4/5
I got one of the renovated rooms with balcony and it was awesome! The staff were friendly and helpful. The location was also great on a street with some good restaurants. The only downside was that the renovation was ongoing so there was a bit of construction related noise & activities happening during the stay. But they were quite considerate so I wasn't really bothered by it.
- 5/5
Clean and spacious room!
- 5/5
I will definitely be back I love the balcony it was the best part.
- 5/5
Staff is wonderful! Newly renovated rooms are amazing! Unbelievable location! Will be back, for sure!!!
- 3/5
Odor in lobby smelled moldy. Blankets and pillows could have been better. The noise from the street was loud and could hear the renovations. Noise didn’t go into the night too long. Valet and front desk staff was very friendly and coffee and water in lobby was nice.
- 3/5
The hotel is under renovation, but it doesn't seem to be a holistic approach. Some things are very modern and new-looking, while other things are literally falling apart and filthy. The room itself could be very impressive, but several of the new(ish) brass fixtures were installed incorrectly (towel bars upside down) or in odd locations (covering an electrical outlet, for instance). My room was spacious, quiet and clean, but once stepping into the common spaces, there was a stale odor and the carpet and other aspects weren't clean. There is little-to-no soundproofing of rooms, and the room doors slam shut noisily. The downstairs restaurant opened very briefly on Sunday, but nobody came and, after I came back from a 30-minute walk to the capitol, it was closed. Hopefully the renovation will address all these issues.
- 5/5
Comfortable room and friendly staff
- 5/5
Nice staff. Business friendly. Great location.
- 5/5
Clean but needs updating. I definitely expected more as far as comfortable bed, linens.
- 4/5
Room was nice. Nice Balcony view but balcony area needs attention
- 5/5
I loved the spacious room with fridge, chair, work space and a small sink and coffee pot . I did use the valet service because I was new to this area . They were very accommodating . I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at the Berkeley Hotel and would definitely recommend this lovely hotel .
- 5/5
Great view from the balcony - tree lined street. The staff was amazing, very personable and helpful.
- 3/5
Our room was on the third floor. Major renovations going on and they were working on the 4th floor, so constant hammering and drilling. No mention of this when we made our reservation. According to the website the hotel restaurant serves breakfast but it was locked up tight in the morning. If we had known about the noisy construction going on, we would have booked elsewhere.
- 1/5
They warned about construction, but the drilling at 9 a.m. was ridiculous way too loud to relax. The room was dusty in spots and only had one robe even though it was booked for two. No housekeeping during my stay and had to ask for towels myself. For the price, the service and amenities just don’t match up. The place has charm, but it’s not worth it until renovations are done.
- 5/5
The downside is there is no restaurant in the facility. They rely on a restaurant leased separately. The result is no food available on Mondays at all and limited hours when they are open. Normal restaurant hours but not food service hours in a five star hotel
- 4/5
Biggest problem were guests on third floor were so loud at 12 pm i had to go out and get them to shut up as people were sleeping. Took 2 xs. Rude.
- 4/5
Great lovation
- 5/5

The Hotel is going through renovation, and our room had not received it yet. Room was clean but worn. I will return, and hopefully all rooms will have the much needed renovation.

Staff was friendly and welcoming. Valet service was efficient. Lots of great restaurants and shops nearby and walkable.
- 5/5
Staff was wonderful
- 5/5
The hotel is beautiful! The staff is so friendly and helpful! The bed is sooooo comfortable and the room was exceptionally clean!
- 4/5
Unique boutique hotel. Complimentary coffee tea and water. Comfortable beds. Easy access to eateries. Valet parking. Rooms very small and they are remodeling.
- 5/5
The Front desk staff was excellent and friendly.
- 5/5
My kind of hotel - excellent location, friendly staff, older hotel - they were doing some renovations/updates, but I appreciate the character of older/higher quality decor (armoire with robes, art from the area showing the history, etc), all amenities needed plus always available water/coffee/tea in the lobby. Would definitely come back
- 5/5
I loved our stay at this hotel. The hotel is super nice and in a great area. It has a restaurant with great food and the hotel and restaurant staff were nice nice and helpful.
- 5/5
The hotel is very convenient, clean and quiet. It's a small hotel which has a bit of charm. Lots of restaurant options within walking distance.
- 5/5
Good location. Great place. Staff very helpful
- 5/5
Very clean room and very friendly staff
- 3/5
Great space but very outdated and staff was not that present!
- 2/5
Our a/c was broken and it took five complaints to get it resolved. The tabletops were filthy and didn’t get cleaned after we asked. The room was outdated- think 1992 and across the street from a noisy bar with police calls. Lousy experience!
- 5/5
The Berkeley was a really quaint hotel. Staff was awesome and the rooms were very nice.
- 4/5
Loved the property. We had a junior suite & the AC wasn’t working properly all weekend.
- 1/5
It was horrible the hotel is under a remodel and you can't hardly sleep. It's a huge mess and dangerous
- 3/5
The coffee/tea station was lacking variety. The bathroom toliet seat was loose. A/c can only be turned down to 68. I know you are in the middle of renovations and maybe these items are being addressed.
- 5/5
It is near the historic district and near the capitol Park. Two great restaurants nearby
- 1/5
Would not recommend. Room was very dusty. Left and will not return.
- 3/5
Disappointing. Not the charming historic place we expected. Terrible service. For example, the morning after we arrived, we opened our curtains and discovered our view was a brick wall. We talked to the front desk clerk and requested a different room. Her response was that her shift ended at 3 and if she had to clean the room it would require her to stay longer. We told her we made our reservation months ago, and it was a special trip for us, but she continued to act like it was an inconvenience to her and refused. Similarly, another desk clerk would not get us a bottle of water (complimentary). Said the shipment had not arrived. He just stared at us. We expressed our frustration and he finally agreed to look in the housekeeping closet, where he miraculously found a few. The "bell man" stationed by the door was there for appearance only. Was on his phone and ignored us or was absent altogether. Finally, the lobby coffee service (the classiest thing there) was gone on our last day. We were told the "shipment had not come in." Staff was not accommodating in the least. Could have offered coffee from the lobby restaurant but did not. We ran two blocks to Starbucks down the street. There are lots of other hotels on or near Carey Street. Wish we had booked one of them.
- 5/5
The hotel was undergoing renovation work but our room had been renovated so was very smart other than a cracked top on the free standing bathroom sink unit (which was odd). Very good position for the city and self parking possible on the street outside if you can find a space.
- 5/5
We were in a pre-renovation king room, I think, but it was still lovely—comfortable, clean and very spacious. Staff could not have been nicer.
- 5/5

- 5/5
Very nice stay. Professional staff, close to everything
- 4/5
We were there on a Labor Day Monday. We were told the restaurant at the hotel was always closed on Mondays. We were wanting a drink and some appetizers before the James Taylor concert that evening. At 4:00pm, the Tobacco Company was supposed to open, nope. We found an Irish Pub down the street that opened and sat at the bar for 15 minutes with not even a nod. Found several other customers looking for somewhere to go before the concert, and we all ended up at the Omni which opened up at 4:00pm. It would help the hotel customers to have a clear plan of where to send people on a holiday Monday when you yourselves do not provide service.

Classy
- 5/5
Very comfortable stay very cozy accommodations with very friendly staff.
- 5/5
Alfreda was amazing.
- 3/5
The carpet in room was dirty. The globes on lights in bathroom were very dirty.. had to take them off to have better lighting. The luggage carts were very hard to maneuver & the young man @ front door desk didn’t offer to help by holding the door open. The beds were clean & the staff was friendly.
- 4/5
I didn't like the loud cars at night.
- 4/5
Quiet and safe older hotel.
- 5/5
Professional friendly, and helpful.
- 4/5
Nice work
- 4/5
The property looked older than it was. There was a lot of construction going on. The staff was very nice. There seemed to be a lot of homeless people around. Overall, we had a nice stay, but not worth the cost.
- 5/5
Excellent stay!!! Had a great weekend at a great place!! Thanks so much!!!
- 4/5
Comfortable, quiet room, perhaps needing a bit of updating. Staff was courteous, check in was easy, restaurant and bar were not interesting, and lacked customers. No breakfast or treats in the morning, only coffee. This is a good downtown location with plenty of restaurants and cafes within easy walking distance. We would stay again if a trip to Richmond was necessary.
- 5/5
Only think I don’t like was had to park in Parking Garage and pay extra for parking. They offer valet but would have had to pay a whole lot more to park. I feel for price paid that The Berkeley Hotel should give a voucher to customers to pay for parking garage fees
- 3/5
Toilet was broken and leaking all over the floor. We were in one of the non-renovated rooms. It was pretty shabby. Staff was super nice and very helpful.
- 5/5
Located near everything but parking is a bit expensive.
- 5/5
Your Restaurant wasn't open for Breakfast but we got a great breakfast across the street, so no worries there. The area is very visitor-friendly in general. We were very close to the concert venue ( Allianz Amph) where we saw Neil Young last night.
- 5/5
Nice hotel, well maintained. Decorating is a bit dated but it was comfortable. Only complaint is that there was no refrigerator to keep our drinks and leftover meals cold.
- 5/5
Comfortable and stylish. The traditional details are very nice.
- 4/5
Overall, we enjoyed our stay. The hotel is beginning to undergo updates/upgrades, which is understandable. I feel like a few extra things would’ve changed this to a 5 star. For example, the room was beginning to show its age with repair needs, etc. However, I loved the comfort of the room and the view was great. Absolutely loved the outside terrace, but it did have a huge window that didn’t have a blind, so not completely private-I would address that. Also, I feel like each room should have a refrigerator and microwave. Other than those few things, it was excellent. Would definitely recommend and stay again.
- 5/5
Doorman is lovely. Front desk is excellent. Bed is very comfortable. Room is just right.
- 3/5
It’s not as nice a it used to be
- 4/5

- 5/5
I loved that the check in process was easy! We requested a refrigerator and it was in our room before we got there. The upgrades to the room were beautiful! We had the option of using Valet Parking or using the parking garage that was just a short walk away. The only thing that was a little inconvenient was the channel guide for the tv. The channels didn’t match the channel guide we had in our room. Other than that…I still give our stay 5 stars across the board.

Helpful staff, nice and comfortable room.

- 5/5
It was very nice.
- 4/5
Hotel is continuing to go through ongoing renovations that impede a better review. Hopefully next time will be a better experience.
- 5/5
Parking was a hassle. There are limited food options around the hotel. But the hotel was very nice, the room spacious, and the staff helpful.
- 4/5
Good location!
- 5/5
The chef at the onsite restaurant made a couple of items for us that weren't on the menu. Taste was fantastic. Will definitely stay again. The Tabacco Compamy Restaurant is across the street.
- 2/5
While they say it’s under renovation the room was not updated that we stayed in. Biggest issues: Late night folks outside was very loud, drunks, etc. no fridge in room (was the largest and guess nicest) and the best part was the woman at the front desk on checkin said we’re not allowed to have a fridge without me even asking. Never had that said to me at a hotel. Plus side: Was the cheapest near the convention center at last min. Lots of food options around.
- 4/5
Easy access. Ilder vut clean and undergoing renovations.
- 5/5
Great pillows and bed. Great location. Hotel is just starting renovations. Hotel is older and is due for renovations. Would stay again
- 5/5
Great location. Quiet. Very comfortable rooms. Parking is hit or miss. Always our first option when coming to Richmond
- 4/5
Shower head was unadjustable and completely askew, pouring water out onto the floor.
- 5/5
We stay in the Berkley when visiting Richmond. The hotel is pleasant and has a charm about it. Very good location for dining and seeing the sites. The hotel is going through an upgrade which is due as the carpeting in our room needed changing. We will continue to visit this establishment as it works for us.

Clean and well kept rooms
- 5/5
Hotel was just what I was looking for. Enjoyed my stay.
- 5/5
Very nice
- 4/5
The hotel is very old but very nice inside everything was clean. They are remodeling was very disappointed because everything they said they had on the hotels.com. They did not have. They did not have a gym that we could use. They did not have breakfast lunch or dinner except for on certain days and we still didn't know what those were Was difficult to find a breakfast spot. The hotel itself was very comfortable. The staff was very friendly and very attentive. The rooms were very clean. It was close to the convention center, which is where we were going.
- 5/5
We only stayed 1 night but the staff was nice amd welcoming. Love the old esthetics of the building and its Location is great.
- 3/5
This is an ok hotel. It needs an update kind of old. The person at the front desk was not very friendly.
- 5/5
A lot of construction going on in the area. Still a great place to stay.
- 5/5
Quiet and comfortable room with a good number of walkable places to eat like Tobacco Company and Hard Shell. The immediate area is quaint with cobblestone streets which makes it pleasant and scenic for short walks. The staff are attentive, checking in on you by text.
- 4/5
The construction noise and mess definitely were not ideal, but the location was good.
- 4/5
Always a solid place to stay at an affordable price
- 3/5
Beds were small, very uncomfortable, second full size bed was bouncy. Not good sleep, no menu in room, going through renovation, internet worked
- 2/5
Very old hotel, run down. Front desk lady very unhelpful.
- 3/5
The hotel is ornately beautifully, but my pet peeve was, one night returning to the hotel the concierge asked me if I was a deliveryboy
- 5/5
Good staff
- 5/5
Very nice stay! We will be back for sure.
- 5/5
Best place to stay in Richmond. Beautifully appointed and fabulous staff. We will be back soon!
- 5/5
Wonderful accommodations
- 5/5
Nice place. Quiet on a Tuesday night. Friendly staff
- 5/5
Great old and quirky hotel with a good bar and a great location.
- 3/5
A disappointment. The bed was very uncomfortable and the amenities weren't what we expected. We won't stay here again.
- 5/5
Walking distance to Main St Station, Canal walk, lots of restaurants around
- 5/5
Great location, easy check-in and comfortable rooms. Love the always-on jazz in the lobby!
- 5/5
The room was clean and quiet. Parking valet was 32$
- 5/5
Staff was very kind and helpful. Hotel a bit tired but very comfortable…
