Reviews
Guests have mixed feelings about their stay at this hotel. While some appreciate the cleanliness, comfortable beds, and beautiful views, others express dissatisfaction with hidden fees, unfriendly staff, and maintenance issues.
- Cleanliness and comfortable beds
- Beautiful views and convenient location
- Hidden fees and overpriced services
- Unfriendly staff and poor customer service

This hotel was perfect for our Bay Area trip; centrally located between SF and SJ. The property is in a business district so it was not very busy on the weekend. The staff was welcoming and efficient. The room was very nice and clean. I loved the pillow-top mattress, but my hubby said it was too soft for him. The bathroom was a little outdated, but effective. Water pressure? Meh. The fridge was useful, and there was a microwave downstairs in the lobby. We would definitely stay here again.

Lovely lagoon location. Quiet, relaxing and clean. Great stay.
- 5/5
Nice view from room and spacious room and a nice coffee shop and bar the area is safe and nice
- 5/5
Great stay only one night but felt welcomed .Great staff ,clean room and property.
- 3/5
Parking fee was too high at over $50. They also charge a "facility fee" of $22, which was totally unexpected. If I paid for the hotel stay, I already paid for the facility. Between the two fees it amounted to more than 50% of what I already paid for the hotel stay. The whole thing came across as shady.
- 4/5
Suited my needs. No major complaints. Reminded me of how hotels used to be. Staff was responsive. Facility was well maintained. Garage was not as good. I'd go there again.
- 5/5
Overall great value hotel. Friendly staff and centrally located for our purposes.

Totally inadequate considering the 4 star room rate.

Nice place and good location. I like the restaurant in this hotel.
- 4/5
Enjoyed the breakfast at Waterside Grill and Lounge.
- 3/5
Bed has a lumpy, wrinkled pad under bottom sheet which doesn’t stay tucked in anyways; only 2 bath towels in the room, 4th floor hallway is an icebox, $50 just to park, the coffee in the coffee shop is not good, the room is very clean, and property is quiet. In general, I wasn’t too pleased but it wasn’t bad.
- 4/5
The rooms aren’t spacious. And I hate a bathrooms without fans. Funky.

Nice view room. Pool big enough to swim. Good gym
- 5/5
Nice spot, hidden gem by the bay. The mandatory $55 for garage is atrocious!!! There needs to be another option. In a good or bad economy this is unjustified as this is not a city center by any means. The other thing I didn't like was no water refill station, not even in gym. Too many single plastic bottle usage right by the bay is also unattractive. Pool was nice, but it is small and no hot tub.
- 4/5
So my room had a hole in the ceiling and the wall was damaged the bathrooms need updates

Ash greeted us when we arrived and we were blown away by his kindness, professionalism and welcoming nature. It is rare to meet someone so gracious and as we were there dealing with a family tragedy it made us feel loyal to Marriott for future bookings

Check in and check was a breeze. The rooms were very clean. The restaurant personal were exceptional. I really have to praise the Valet . I woke up to a puncture tire on my personal vehicle the morning of departure. The valet attendant went above and beyond to repair my tire just enough to get the care to tire shop. Special thanks to him, and I'm sorry i did not get his name.

Wonderfully clean establishment, great customer service. Only thing is the parking now being run separately by Metropolis - set-up was cumbersome and did not work well. Furthermore, corporate account typically covered on-site parking and now it no longer is included.

Stay away. Lobby is nice but the rooms don’t match. The worst part is the service and rudeness of the staff. Impossible to get help or speak to management. I’ve traveled internationally and have never had this much trouble with an establishment.

It sad when an elegant and vibrant hotel loses its stature. The Grand Bay as it is now called used to be one of The premier hotels on the San Mateo Peninsula. That time has passed. The staff was pleasant and courteous. However, only one person working check in on a Saturday afternoon? C’mon! The rooms are worn, water pressure weak, and that’s a shame. It will be my las last stay there!

Comfortable room and bed, nice staff. Amenities are okay, bar and restaurant looked nice in the lobby, I did not have time to try it. Redwood shores is convenient nearby 101 freeway entrance. Hotel is aging and is a high price for what you get. Garage parking detached from hotel which is clunky, and expensive as they charge additional $20/night for it. They also charge a separate amenity fee, so be prepared for a large charge for a few nights on top of the room and taxes.

Decent hotel. Market place closed for 30 minutes and there was no way to get a cup of coffee. Why not staff another person during breaks? Ridiculous since there were 3 in the restaurant area standing around. Why not put real cups and glasses in the room? Flimsy plastic and paper don’t merit this class of hotel. $30 parking and $20 resort (what facilities) fee is ridiculous.

One of the unexpected joys of my stay was the nearby boardwalk. I happened to visit on a gorgeous day, and it was perfect for a long, peaceful stroll. It added a lovely touch to the overall experience. All in all, I would happily stay here again. With the Marriott transition underway and such a strong team already in place, I’m confident this hotel is only going to get better.

Location is great and the staff are friendly and very personable. This is truly a benefit as the hotel has undergone several ownership transitions since I started visiting about a decade ago. Facilities are undergoing renovation a floor at a time, so some rooms are better than others. However the restaurant is great, with seasonal menu changes, and the location adjacent to the lagoon has wildlife and nice walkability.

I’m extremely disappointed with my recent booking experience. I originally came and booked a room for $185, but to my shock, I was charged $344 with no clear explanation or valid reason. This feels misleading and unfair. As a customer, I expected honesty, transparency, and respect not unexpected hidden charges or sudden price changes. This experience left me frustrated and dissatisfied, and it makes me question whether I can trust booking here again. The staff is rude

This is a business hotel located in the middle of a business park. All outside restaurants were located at least a mile away. Room was a little small for the price. The special price we received hardly covered the parking fee which was outrageous. Would not recommend this hotel to families or anyone on a budget looking for a quick overnight stay

Some of the surrounding areas can be pretty busy and cause travel times to take much longer than expected. Especially Downtown San Francisco. Having a much quieter, modern, comfortable, and more laid back place to get back to and relax definitely helps. It’s centrally located to multiple popular areas, including the SF airport, Palo Alto/Stanford University, Half Moon Bay, Golden Gate Bridge, etc. I would definitely stay here again if I have a need or desire to return to the region.

The hotel is located in a quiet area surrounded by businesses. However, it’s also located near a small airport for personal planes and those are very noisy and heard often during the day. Only an Issue for those that sleep during the day. Nice view of lagoon. Convenient self parking. Lobby is very nice, with bar, and cafe. Disappointed with the room, weird musty smell in room. The water pressure in the shower is almost non existent. When the toilet clogged, and a request was made at the front desk for help, no one came to fix the toilet. The mattress is rock hard, with a pillow topper on top. Which is somewhat ok for back sleepers. If you’re a side sleeper you will be in pain. The AC doesn’t work well which forces you to crank the window open. You will hear your neighbors hotel doors slamming shut, constantly. Thin walls. Bedding was clean and white, same with towels. Overall room cleanliness was good. Parking is $30 a night. Overall, for the price it’s decent, but I doubt I will stay here again.

The beds were terrible. They both had springs coming up and we went to the chiropractor each day because of it. We’re not able to change rooms. Very loud and when asked two weeks in advance to my stay what room type I would like I sent it in twice and did not receive what I requested.

The rooms are really nice but the bed in our Junior suite was old and saggy in the middle. We complained to the management about the state of the bed and they said oh yeah, we've been hearing lots of complaints about the beds so I think that that is in need of an upgrade. Other than that, it's a nice hotel. It's a little bit worse for wear but they said they were going to do a remodel soon.

It was a very clean and comfortable stay.

The room was very dusty. It look like it hadn’t been cleaned in a while
- 4/5
This hotel was pretty nice, our room was clean and it was in a quiet area. The only doenside is parking is 30$ a day, which is outrageous, and they dont comp it.
- 5/5
Really enjoyed our time there. The hotel room was clean and comfortable beds. Nice pool with lobby

La verdad que en las fotografías se miraba que las habitaciones estaban muy cómodas, pero son demasiado pequeñas, y el baño estaba sucio, sobre todo el but tup

Transparency is a basic expectation when booking any accommodation. There was no mention of these fees in the confirmation email, the reservation platform, or the front desk until I was already locked into the stay. This feels misleading and unprofessional. Guests should be informed of all costs upfront — not surprised with added charges after the fact. Until this issue is addressed and pricing is made more transparent, I cannot recommend this property and will be taking my business elsewhere in the future.

the hotel was beautiful, it’s pretty clean

I don't think it says in Expedia that parking is $30/night, but it is.

They charge you for fees that they never tell you about. Staff is so rude and the room mostly the bathroom are not what they look like. It doesn’t have ventilation and it’s old.

Restaurant and bar works service ever not friendlys bartenders ignoring me all night

Staff was very friendly

Just enjoyed another fine stay at this hotel. Rooms are nice and roomy, would like comfier pillows, but a great hotel.

This is a nice place and the view is awesome on the water side of the building. The city views are not bad either
- 4/5
Everything was ok but bed was very uncomfortable. Mattress was in bad condition and gave us backache.

The Grand Bay Hotel offers spacious rooms with comfortable chairs for reading or watching TV and ample desks for working. I particularly appreciated the restaurant, which offered a variety of dinner options so I didn't have to venture out. The service was good, the staff friendly. The hotel is close to SFO, convenient for catching a flight.

We were there for a family wedding- we liked that there were areas to gather to sit with family. The dining options were a bit limited by time and menu. The staff were mostly unwilling to offer separate checks to our party. The wedding itself was wonderful.

When I checked in, I walked into a room that appeared to be occupied with shoes, a bag and towels on the ground. When I went back to the front desk, I was told "oh that's weird". I was given another room down the hall, but it was a terrible experience overall, and I was shocked there wasn't more empathy or at least an apology for such a shocking and poor experience.

Beautiful hotel. Nice views. Very quiet area. The complimentary room upgrade was so sweet. The room was so spacious and the bed was super comfortable. Good food at the restaurant too.

Clean and staff were so kind

Check in began well. And the pool was great. Kids had a good time. However it went downhill from there. The cleanliness wasn’t great in the room. There were hairs on the bed. Also, the door for the connecting room wouldn’t shut and lock. Had to push with force to finally get it to go. Last the staff at the restaurant was beyond rude. Will not be staying again

Having to pay a daily resort fee and a daily parking fee was excessive for the amenities this hotel offered.
- 4/5
It was safe, quiet and walkable.

Used to Hyatt, Marriott… dated look in bath and room. Bed was comfortable! Wish they had nespresso rather than Kirig.
- 5/5
It was great!
- 4/5
The only thing I was disappointed with was having to pay $30.00 per night for parking and $20.00 more per night for a resort fee. That added $50.00 per night to the room. I'd rather be told the real price up front. Other than that, the employees were great and the room was fine.

Good

Great property and room was nice. Shower didn’t drain properly though and water would sometimes pool.
- 4/5
Overall a good hotel to rest the night. Spacious room and bathroom. Slight issue with bathroom flush but maintenance was able to resolve immediately even at night. Breakfast (room service) was expensive with incredulous tax. I recommend delivery from elsewhere.
- 4/5
Restaurant and bar not open late enough. Good wine choices. Coffee shop that is only open until 11:00 closes at 0930 (without a sign on the window and people lined up waiting) so the person working can take a 30 minute break. No one to relieve her. Waited so long to get seated for breakfast that we left and went elsewhere.

This was the worst experience I have had staying at a hotel. We stayed there for 25 days. Very unhelpful staff. Our bath drain got blocked. The staff were unable to fix it in a timely manner, so we had to move to another room. Was told it happens all the time. We asked for compensation for the inconvenience and got none. Was told that they had dealt with the problem. We will not use Expedia for booking hotels, once you pay, you are on your own.

Spacious and Comfortable Room, Nice Design of the Lobby and the Outdoor Area

Had a good stay

I loved my stay!! Will definitely come back and recommend it to friends and family. This is by far the best hotel in the Bay Area. Waterside Grill has the best food too! I loved the pool and the views by the water. Got me some tan and enjoyed my experience. Overall 5 stars!! Thanks Grand Bay! It highly recommended for getting vacay vibes not too far from home (SF)

Cleaning staff nice, but 2 stays in a row, room not cleaned well. 1x a bra left behind on the floor, 1x garbage can not emptied. Makes me question where else the cleaning is lacking. Front desk staff usually just medium-friendly. Hotel rooms are run down and showing a great deal of wear and tear. Definitely need to renovate/ update. Rooms have historically been very dimly lit, dark, and dank. Have stayed there a handful of times in the last couple of years. This last stay will probably be our last time there.

I stayed here with my fiancé, mother and 1 year old daughter. When we first arrived it looked very nice and check in was simple. We reserved the 1 bedroom suite and the room was really nice! However, the internet was out in our room and maintenance had to come to figure out it wasn’t going to work. They switched us rooms which was fine. My fiancé went downstairs to grab some more items from our car and the front desk staff was making him feel rushed to move his car. As if they aren’t the ones that just made us move to another room. And if you have a toddler I’m sure you know how much stuff you have to bring when you are traveling.. That was a little frustrating and I felt kind of rude. It was a nice place overall and the beds were comfy but we just unfortunately got unlucky with this experience.

Beautiful place right on the he water. Parking is a bit pricey but a very nice facility.

Location is good but hotel needs upgrade.
- 3/5
Pool not so clean and surrounding areas. Great staff very friendly and professional.
- 5/5
I like everything of this hotel the only thing that sucks is that you have to pay for parking space
- 5/5
Stayed here often.Good location away from freeway noise.

Very nice and clean property.

I had an excellent two night stay at the Grand Bay Hotel SF. I was greeted warmly and upgraded upon an early arrival. Excellent gym and great food choices at the property. Room was adequate if not a bit outdated. I enjoyed my stay and will definitely return next time I need a hotel on the peninsula.

Beds are very uncomfortable; no mattress top and you can feel the springs.

Been here’re before its the spot

Elaine. the counter clerk is VERY RUDE not only to me and my wife, but 3 other couples I recommended staying there for my 80th birthday. All other staff members and cleaning staff were courteous and excellent. Because of Elaine, neither I nor my friends will ever stay again at the Grand Bay Hotel. She is a detriment to the hotel. I heard other guests complain about her.

It was a good stay. They kept having issues with their computer systems. Ironically, they are located in the heart of Silicon Valley. This property was quite understaffed as well. Parking needs to be more resonable and they need to provide EV chargers.
- 5/5
The bar and restaurant staff were amazing!! Our room was spotless and cleaned daily. Front desk people not as friendly but not bad. Really enjoyed our stay!! 10/10

The property was clean and the staff were lovely. The rooms were fine, but needed updating. Our bathroom mirror was broken. The bathroom was fine but definitely dated. There was no fan in the bathroom which made it difficult to defog the mirror. With that being said, the beds and pillows were amazingly comfortable.

This continues to be a very fine hotel. The rooms are nice and the overall setting is very pleasant.
