Location is great, very similar to in Jersey City across the river from Manhattan NY. Room size is not ideal for my needs but it’s totally fine for an overnight stay.

I was not expecting to have a 20% gratuity automatically added to the breakfast bill. Especially because there was año advertising to say it was going to happen. You don’t find out til you get the bill. Gratuity is to reward good service and IS NOT REQUIRED! Further, it was a buffet so we serve ourselves. Servers bring coffee and the bill. Unfortunately, we had to get our own coffee.

The staff during the day were very nice and they had things available to do in the area and inside the resort An employee walked in the room without announcing themselves, and when I asked who was it, they did not answer. I immediately grabbed my things and left because I was so afraid it totally ruined our anniversary trip. We had to check into another hotel. I did I was so nervous that we left going home early the next morning.

The layout; the patio and the bar area was delightful. The shower and water pressure was just right. The parking garage not having straight access to the hotel by door, I had to walk around the world from the elevators to get to the parking garage.

The view and beauty The first room we were in had no interior lights or phone power. Had to move room and we checked in for our wedding night. The food was good at the restaurant but it was freezing and other families were also complaining about it being so cold in the restaurant which made us hurry through our meal to go outside since there was no dining chairs at the small tables outside. I would have preferred to sit outside rather than rush through the meal due to no chairs around the tables outside the restaurant other than where the smoke pits were. It was peaceful and had a beautiful time. We would have stayed longer but the price was excessive. I was charged twice for parking and stayed one night

From the time we were greeted at the front desk until the time we left, everything was just simply great! Dominic-omg he is a gem! Very helpful ❤️ The rooms and restaurant were cleaner than what I had expected. Book this room today! The views of the river will have you in a trance

I stayed at this hotel for the first time. It seemed to be in good shape and the staff seemed friendly as well. Everything was going alright until our room wasn’t cleaned and beds wasn’t made nor the towels and wash clothes weren’t replaced.I went to the front desk on my way out and explained to them that our room wasn’t turned down. The receptionist promised that she would contact housekeeping to have the room cleaned. So we headed to the museum and mall and upon returning 6 hours later the room still hadn’t been touched. This hotel housekeeping manager is AWEFUL! The only thing you’ll get from this staff is Broken Promise’s. And the night manager Eric Perrault isn’t fair at all.

Overall below average stay. The only reason I wouldn’t go lower is because the bed was comfortable. Large sections of the laminated flooring in the room was coming up. Coffee pot was dirty and only had one caffeinated serving. Shower was COLD! Common areas looked like an amateur did the painting, decorating, etc. Also, my wife and I tried having a few drinks outside overlooking the River - nope, the stench of marijuana was overwhelming. Would not recommend.

I got one room for $200 before I stayed, when I went to get a 2nd room for my kids it was $400. Room came with nothing but a view. Even motel 6 gives you a microwave. These rooms only come with beds, irons, & a refrigerator that isn’t even cool enough

Nicely located across the street from charming Olde Towne Portsmouth. My first visit, a few days before, was blighted by the noise of squalling kids through a locked common door. I complained, and the mistake was not repeated when I returned.

Hotel was beautiful and rooms were nice. Beds were ok. Alot to do and things were close But bathrooms had no fans and no privacy due to barn style doors did not cover the tire bathroom entry and there were big gaps around the door that covered it. No microwaves in the rooms and very small minifridge. Only one entrance to the hotel which meant a long walk fpr my disabled mother and toddlers.to and from the car

The air conditioing did not work the three nights we stayed. After asking the fromt desk three times for maintenance to come to the room, we found out it was a larger issue for multiple guests, but no real solutions. Maintenance never came to the room. No offer to move us to a room with working a/c or a break on the room cost.

The staff that checked me in was rude during the entire check-in process and did not tell us about any amenities. We did not know about breakfast or when anything opens or closes. It felt like she was annoyed at me she had to do work. Because of her I will be staying somewhere else for my week long work trip in the beginning of April

Clean and beautiful hotel that was close to everything we needed. The water shuttle into Norfolk was easy and conveniently located to the hotel. The rooms were HOT and the staff was not helpful at all. In fact they are so accustomed to the complaints about room temperature issues, the lies are believable. Sure the front desk will act like its the first time hearing of such a thing but infact, after looking on Google, this is a known issue. I was second in line to complain about our room and the couple ahead of me were doing the same thing. When I tell you I had to sleep with literally a wet towel on me just to get some sleep, I'm not lying. My 3 years old woke up so hot she threw up. I dont write reviews for fun, its a legit issue at this hotel and others should be warned. Attempting to call the front desk is also a joke. Every call made to the front desk was ignored. Two maintenance engineers came to look out our room and both couldn't believe how we are sleeping in there. The second was sweating while talking to us. Both told us the same thing, they were going downstairs to turn on another chiller and it should start to cool off in 30 minutes. Well 2 days in that hot box and lemme tell you, it NEVER cooled off. In the bathroom our cold water faucet was broke and if you ever did cold water on, good luck turning it off. Maintenance stated the parts were on order but it wouldn't benefit us during our stay...well itll never benefit us because I wouldnt stay at this hotel if it was the last one left. Also, they advertise as a smoke free hotel, complete lie once again. The outside would be so much more enjoyable if the direct smell of weed didn't smack you in the face as soon as you open the door. It made this space useless for our kids as I wouldn't want my children around it. This hotel is more focused on the look of being upscale rather than being upscale. They know they have issues but refuse to care. The front desk is rude from the time you check in until you walk out. I give them some grace because im sure they hear many complaints.

The room had several things going on with it. the bathroom door did not close due to some issue with the floor guide. The floor had residue left on it from whatever they mopped/cleaned it with. There was also a large hump in the floor in front of the bed that caused a tripping hazard. It was like they laid flooring over top of something large that cause the flooring to push up in a spot that was about 5 inches across and raised up about an inch. The hotel stated they had room service so you could order your dinner and get it delivered to your room. After trying to use the online ordering portal that failed, I called down to the front desk to order. They took my order and told me it would be 25 to 30 minutes. After an hour I called down to check on it, and they said it would be 20 more minutes. After another hour of waiting, I went down to the front desk and was able to get the food. I ordered the steak meal that was supposed to have mixed vegetables and steak cooked to medium. It instead came with a slurry of mashed potatoes with a few asparagus on top of it and the steak was set on top of all that. It did not look appetizing, but after 2 hours of waiting I was very hungry and ate it. The steak was terrible. I am really not one to complain much ( I am sure that is hard to believe after hearing all that I have to say) but the steak was tough to eat and had little flavor. It felt like it was a microwave meal. The hotel concierge was wonderful, but she has to deal with too much.

The room was clean and spacious which was much appreciated. The hvac downstairs in the lobby area was also out or low functioning during our stay so the bar area/dining area was cold. Upon arrival, I encountered issues with my room key, which required two trips back downstairs with my luggage in hand. On the third attempt, Howard from maintenance kindly assisted me by relocating me to another room and providing two complimentary breakfast vouchers. I sincerely appreciate his professionalism and willingness to help—thank you, Howard. The room itself was smaller than my previous stay, and the view was not what I had anticipated. While I will note that the rooftop appeared very well maintained, this did little to offset my concerns. Most troubling was discovering a roach in the bathroom, which I found shocking and unacceptable for a hotel of this caliber. On a brighter note, breakfast was delicious, and the servers were attentive and pleasant. Later that evening, we watched the Duke and Tar Heel game at the bar, where the bartender was friendly, and the atmosphere created by other guests was enjoyable. The food at the bar was also very good. Despite these positives, I left feeling quite disappointed with this stay. I also felt that the front desk staff could have been more welcoming and approachable. I hope management takes this feedback into consideration.

Was not told internet was down upon check in. After call told it would be fixed by morning. It was down our entire stay. No communication with hotel guess at all. My trip with granddaughter was shop and watch movies that did’t happen. Also loud party on 17th floor we could not sleep. Was not told internet was down upon check in. After call told it would be fixed by morning. It was down our entire stay. No communication with hotel guess at all. My trip with granddaughter was shop and watch movies that did’t happen. Also loud party on 17th floor we could not sleep. The rooms were clean and each overlooks the Elizabeth River towards Norfolk's waterside which was beautiful at night. The restaurant food was delicious and all staff was pleasant and helpful. The hotel isn't in an area where there weren't any undesirable folks hanging around si it felt very safe to walk around at night.

Room was clean & comfortable. The food in the restaurant at dinner was delicious and the breakfast buffet was as well. The view from all rooms was absolutely beautiful, overlooking the Elizabeth River and the hotels on the water in Norfolk. At night they're all lit with neon lights and look magical.

Everything was great! I hardly say that about a hotel but out stay was perfect. We even enjoyed the hotel food and our waitress April was the perfect addition. I couldn’t leave without giving her a hug. We will definitely be back.

Staff was very nice and welcoming. I absolutely loved the shower and how the water pressure was so good! We were on the 16th floor and had a great view. We stayed in one of the upgraded rooms and it was pretty basic. It was a little dusty but the cleaning lady came and clean med the floor once I let her know. The streaming for Netflix was also out but we were given a comp on our parking in exchange for the streaming issue. It was a nice 3 days stay.

I was given a 2 queen beds room. Unbelievably one of the beds was still dirty from previous illows etc all smelly and disheveled. I assumed rooms wld be clean. Yet counter tops, desk, end tables all dirty w drinks spills. Floor v dirty & I stupidly walked in my barefeet, yuck. Bathroom had 1 towel. They actually asked me 'what do u want us to do?' Since it was so late I agreed to stay there w an awful night of nearly an hour of doors slamming. First thing I rang front desk & was told housekeeping were on their way. Not sure if they were coming from another county as they never arrived. I went downstairs & again was told 'oh no, so sorry - we will have the entire room cleaned & refreshed in all areas. Well you can guess what happened, I got back at 10pm, room was exactly same, absolutely filthy. This time I rang & said no more excuses just move me. New room was fine and again just 1 towel. The next day I did get more towels. In my 4 day stay, despite many assurances, promises & guarantees that it would happen, not one single time did housekeeping clean my room. Wet towels, trash, etc. It's beyond unacceptable. The elevators are dirty, floors down in common areas dirty, i saw the same trash in a corner all 4 days. Most of the staff have their heads down & on their phones except Alisha the only one who tried to follow up but housekeeping let her down. We stayed 2yrs ago & it was v nice. It is not at all nice now, just awful in practically every single way.

I recently stayed at your property to celebrate my birthday weekend, and overall, my experience was very pleasant. I truly appreciated that everything I needed was right on the grounds—there was no reason to leave unless I chose to. My room offered a beautiful view, and watching both the sunrise and sunset was absolutely stunning. I also appreciated the clear communication and directions during the fire alarm; it made me feel safe and cared for. There were a couple of hiccups during my stay. A loud noise coming from the bathroom startled us out of our sleep, and we couldn’t determine what it was. Additionally, there was no microwave in the room, and I noticed that some areas felt a bit dated with a few items showing wear. Despite those small issues, the staff was extremely friendly and accommodating, which made a lasting impression. The overall atmosphere was peaceful and enjoyable, making it a lovely way to spend my birthday weekend. Thank you again for your hospitality. Warm regards, Mona Longs

Stayed at this hotel many times. $15 for parking is ridiculous. Should be free for repeat patrons. Also I missed my NFL football game because room TV would not connect to the internet. Technician came up and was the nicest person I've ever met! He spent an inordinate amount of time attempting to get it connected. His name is HOWARD. Was a system problem, something out of his control. Howard should be rewarded or recognized in some way, for his genuine interest in making the customer happy.

Housekeeping only took dirty towel didn't replace towels and pulled cover up on bed . Didnt vacuum or fold bed sheet to attempt to care about cleaning the bed properly.

All of the staff were friendly and responsive. The air conditioning did not work properly in our room and they moved us to a new room. The hotel entrance area was not super clean. The rooms were a bit worn for the price point of this hotel. Another thing we did not like was the room lighting. It was very dim. On a better note the view from our room was wonderful.The location of the property was great and the area very walkable to restaurants.

Everytime we go...noisy residents in other rooms..front desk and security do nothing about it. Even has people next door hooting and hollering and when we ask to be quiet..they knocked on our door to and instigate me to be angry..then video my reaction only for management to blame my wife and I and do nothing to kick them out like they said they would. Trashiest property ever thats not a motel with doors on the outside. Will never stay again forever more. Nor should anyone else.

The room was hot, humid, and muggy. It was uncomfortable and staff didn’t seem to be concerned at all. Communication and general concern was non-existent. Called the manager the next morning. He was very apologetic but stated that he couldn’t refund my stay but instead would give me marriott points. Still have not received those! Highly disappointed in the staff, the zero resolution to malfunctioning air conditioning, and my overall stay here :( We have stayed here in the past with no issues but will for sure will be staying at a different hotel next time we come to Portsmouth Va.

Stay was great except for the beds. They were so uncomfortable that we could not sleep. They were listed as queens but were not they were more like doubles. You could feel the springs when you laid down. Room would not stay cool at night either. Shower was amazing! Service in the bar was adequate very slow though. Restaurant part was not open when we stayed.

I use to come here quite often. Haven't been in some years. Place isn't the same. A string of hair was in the corner of the sink, which is unacceptable. They asked for my request but didn't honor it, and it was a simple request. Sad to say that will be/was my last time there.

Beautiful hotel! Bar staff is exceptional. Bre was our favorite. Hotel should keep pool towels downstairs as housekeeping could not deliver towels to the pool in a timely manner. Front desk advised there were 7 deliveries in front of the pool delivery for towels without a time frame on when they would arrive. Housekeeping will only provide fresh towels in room that are on the floor and does not make beds when you stay over however nothing in the room informs you of this. Hotel charges for parking however I was not informed until checkout.

Couldn’t hear the TV with volume on 100. Air conditioning wouldn’t work (All 3 of these were fixed by the maintenance crew). Also found out that the A/C cuts off after 2 hours of no movement in room! I don’t move while sleeping. Shower faucet is broken. Every elevator is dirty including the parking deck elevator. Old dirty Sock and heavy dust and cobwebs beside bed. (told two separate employees and they did nothing, it's probably still there) Saw a roach run on the floor but got away before we could kill it. On 2nd day there: No towels No washcloths No toilet paper (had to use toilet in lobby downstairs) It took 4 times going to the front desk to get anyone to help. The last time was after 8 pm after being told there would be someone there shortly. This started in the early morning! The last time I would not leave until I personally saw the desk clerk call to housekeeping in front of me. Was no longer settling for “I’ll call the right away”. When housekeeping showed up, she could only give us one towel because she said the cage was locked and no one there with a key. She tried to help but couldn't. We have stayed there many times over the years and have always been satisfied. Bottomline, new management is horrible and tries to cut to many corners trying to save a dollar. We will never go back. 3rd day: housekeeping was not cleaning our room, so we went and found housekeeper and gave her large tip just so we could get the basics done.

I paid for an accesible room they gave me the total opposite my daughter was to visit after a long drive and i had to cancel her becaus ethey did not pay attention to the details of my purchase the a.c did not work and the tv i had to do something special with the remote to turn the tv i have stayed here before it was enjoyable but this time it was awful truly considering never returning. My family is first and if they cant accommodate handicapped then its time to go elsewhere.

Check in was at 4pm however due to staffing, etc, I wasn’t checked in until 6:30pm. And that was after calling the front desk and informing them about a clean room that I found for myself. Also, because I booked through Expedia, they said they couldn’t give me any discount for the serious inconvenience (late check in made me late for an event I was attending). So, not only didn’t I get compensation for my inconvenience, I may now stop using Expedia due to no way of correcting negative hotel experiences…

I was unable to get breakfast the following morning due to what I perceived as slightly motivated restaurant staff. We stood in a long line for roughly 20 minutes waiting to be seated, which never happened, despite numerous open and available tables. Which had quite a few of the guest complaining amongst ourselves. Outside of the restaurant super slow pace, everything else about my overnight stay was incredible.

My husband and I were excited to stay here for his birthday weekend to see a concert on Sunday afternoon. Unfortunately, we experienced several problems during our two-day stay. First, the shower walls had mold down the tiles. Second, the bed and pillows were so soft that it killed our backs both days. Third, on the morning of Day 2, we asked the concierge for bath towels because we didn't have any. She said they don’t keep towels at the desk so she would notify the maid so she could leave them in our room when she cleaned it. A few hours later, we ended up asking the maid on our floor twice for towels, but they never arrived. After returning from lunch and seeing no towels or a clean room, my husband and I went down to the concierge desk again to request the towels. That concierge brought towels to us within 10 minutes. This long delay all morning and afternoon caused us to leave late for the concert, thus we ran into a lot of traffic. We ended up missing 40 minutes of the concert. When we returned, our room still wasn’t cleaned. We won’t be staying at this hotel again because these problems ruined what should have been a fun birthday weekend.

When we arrived, no greeter no front desk long walk to find anyone who worked there. Finally found front desk, only register was working. One elevator working two broken at 3:40pm with checkin time being 4pm. Crowded. Finally got to room, to find dust bunnies and dirty carpet. Decided to back down stairs because I wanted ice, ice machine not working my floor. I wanted Pepsi and ice, scantly clad drinks and snack area was pitiful. Front desk clerk seem to think this was sufficiently stocked. Please dont stay at this over priced old hotel. Find another hotel with better customer service and cleaniness.

And I were not happy when they took money off my card The lady at the desk said they have to have a card on holdbut found out they took 80.00 in that case I would v have gave them a another card.When ask about it they were kind od rude told me zI can out about three days later so sad.

The king room was nice as expected, however you would expect a microwave at this price. We were advised there were microwaves on 3 floors. Not cool. We were evacuated at 3:30 and 9:30am for fire in the bldg. Not cool. The staff was not the welcoming customer service we have received in past stays. When asked about the fire evacuations,the response was a cold “we are looking into it”. Our next stay in the area will not be here. Pot was being smoked and permeated the entire 6th floor.

Our room wasn’t ready when we got there at 6:30. When we finally got the room at 7:45, we took a shower and the shower door was offset, so the bathroom floor was covered in 1/2 inch of water. The room really didn’t meet my expectations for how nice the lobby looked and how expensive the room was.

I got to the hotel at 2 PM and my room was not ready yet - no big deal as check in was at 4, but all of my friends were able to get into their rooms earlier than that (they checked in at 12:45-1:30). I ended up getting back to the hotel at 8:30 to check in and I tried to park in the garage but the machine wouldn’t give me a ticket so I couldn’t get in and had to park across the street. All of my friends received tickets for free brunch but I didn’t - I didn’t even realize until I got to my room or I would have asked. The rooms look clean and the hotel has been updated a bit so it looked nice. I then got into the room at 8:45 and there isn’t any hand soap. I have my 3 month old with me so I didn’t even bother calling the front desk because I didn’t want to wake her up, but it wasn’t a great experience. Then around 2:30 AM the people in the room next door came back to their room and it woke me up - not because they were being loud, it was just the acoustics of the room. They were speaking in a normal tone but I was certain they had to be right outside of my door. I went to check and they weren’t there. I realized they were in their own room, but I could hear every word they said. I know the hotel can’t necessarily help this especially when it’s an older hotel, but it seems like an easy fix to not put in people in rooms directly next to each other when the hotel was clearly not incredibly busy.

Our family stayed at the Renaissance Portsmouth-Norfolk this past weekend. The hotel was clean, and the rooms were very comfortable. The Staff were very helpful and respectful, especially in the restaurant area and the bellhop. I will definitely stay at the Renaissance if I visit the area again! Keep up the good work!

Worst of all, the hotel manager denied my cancellation request for my last night due to the winter storm and state of emergency. I was forced to pay for the last night even though I was already back home. If I would have stayed, I would have been snowed in for an extra 2-3 days. I’ll stay across the water in Norfolk for all my upcoming business trips.

When I first arrived I had a city view room and soon as I entered the door roaches were all over the bathroom floor. I showed videos of the roaches and I was upgraded to an ocean view room which was still dirty. My overall experience was terrible I will never book again!
