Reviews
The hotel is generally well-liked for its location, cleanliness, and friendly staff. However, some guests have issues with the size of the rooms, noise, and certain amenities.
- Great location, close to Grand Central Station and other attractions
- Friendly and helpful staff
- Rooms can be small and uncomfortable
- Noise from traffic and neighboring rooms can be an issue

Very helpful staff. Lovely vintage building with nice restorations. Great location. Would definitely stay there again!

We had a long train ride and the staff was so great in helping us get an early check-in. Believe it was Elainia at the desk. Thank you!!

Nice location and should be a fine hotel for hanging around new york Our room had a connecting door, we heard every breath of the mates near us, totally no privacy, other than that as most new york hotels it's quite old and it's seen and felt

If you are looking for a modern hotel this place isn’t it. This was a last minute hotel booking. I had 24 hours in nyc and booked it as soon as I landed. It’s an older property and you can definitely tell as soon as you walk in. The bathroom had a curtain…. I was disappointed because from what I booked online via pictures was not what I got but again it was 24 hours in nyc and price was ok compared to other options. It was okay for the time I was there. Would I stay again no…workers were cool

Clean room but very small size for 2 double bed room.

The room wasn’t as described, front desk staff was rude and overall not worth the value. Would not stay here again or recommend to friends or family.

Great Room, small but enough, for a historic hotel in downtown Manhattan - beautifully furnished Bed very comfortable, lighting good, service excellent, kettle on request. Amazing Location for the price, we walked 3 blocks (uphill !)from Grand Central station _ I think there is a closer subway stop but arriving in Grand Central was epic. Not the easiest with large luggage but doable. Free water each day on request and use of microwave in communla area, nice bar area and dining area (although we didnt book breakfast) Also had secure left luggage facility. A little ramp to wheel your suitcase in and out of the hotel - but might be restricted by rules for sidewalk

The water in the bathroom would only run hot. When the tap was turned to cold, it shut off. Took them two days to fix this. The tub would not drain. The first day brown liquid appeared from somewhere. Pretty unpleasant. We asked to have the drain fixed but it was not fixed during our stay. Walls seemed very thin. We heard everything happening in the room next door which, fortunately, wasn't that much, but the person dropped keys, we heard it. They walked to the bathroom, we heard it. Also, we thought the market in the lobby was supposed to have premade sandwiches, but we never saw any.

Very convenient location within easy walking distance of Grand Central Station and the New York Public Library. The hotel, at 99 years old, has its own charm and character. All the staff are friendly and helpful, and the gentlemen at the concierge desk are especially attentive — they often approach you proactively to offer assistance whenever you walk pass. It’s an old hotel that requires constant maintenance and repair. The air conditioning is quite noisy, and although the technician arrived promptly when we requested assistance, there was little he could do beyond lowering the fan speed. There is also a life‑sized painting of a woman hanging beside the bed, staring directly toward us as we sleep. Combined with the hotel’s 99‑year age and the very dim lighting in the room, it can feel unsettling and may not suit the faint‑hearted. I also noticed the same painting in several other rooms

The staff was very friendly and helpful. I realize that the hotel was renovated and tastefully so but the noise in the room was waking me up throughout the night. If I had to guess, one may have been the air conditioner but attributed the other noise due to the building being old. Lastly, the products were empty and that was disappointing
- 3/5
I have to say the location is perfect close to transportations near famous buildings walking distance to shopping stores nice staff but I wasn't thrilled about my room. First I notice the faucet in the bathroom no cold water was coming out regardless on turning the knob in different direction it was hot water. Second, there is no insulation in the room I could hear the next guest to me all the conversations and whatever he is shuffling around in his room. I like my peace and quiet.
- 4/5
Good location and reliably good. Some of the decor is getting a little tired and the shop could provide healthier options for snacks and breakfast.
- 4.5/5
The location is fantastic for first-time visitors to the NYC, within walking distance to the Grand Central Terminal. The staff are extremely helpful, accommodating to our needs. Maybe the elevator should have required a room card to activate for safety.

Excellent location at the end of 42nd, just walking up and down that street you have some of the most iconic places of NY. Hotel and facilities are very well kept, clean, coffee on site, free WiFi and bottle of waters daily (just ask at front desk), excellent staff. Highly recommended.

We were in NYC during the blizzard and shutdown - the service at Westgate was excellent - staff kept us informed and supported through this time. The room was comfortable, clean, great bed! The Coffee shop opening times - please extend! This was trick during the blizzard when we couldn't get out - but staff were very friendly and helpful during this time. Very happy recommend Westgate and hope to be back next February

Good location. Very friendly stuff. Super clean rooms (we had 3 different rooms and all were well cleaned and prepared). Hardwood floors in rooms those I like way more than old carpets in many other hotels. Hotel is not new, but very well maintained. Air-conditioning did a very strange and loud noises when going on or off. Also not good noise insulation in-between rooms. But overall great value hotel.

Well located, very friendly concierge staff, comfortable beds, quiet and dark good for sleeping. The floor of my room was dirty the entire 5 night stay - evident if you walked in bare feet. On several occasions the coffee / sugar etc was not restocked. Air conditioning could not be turned off resulting in cold air blowing straight onto the bed whether you liked it or not. At this price I would expect higher standards of cleanliness and service. Unfortunately the reason I have had to give this property such a low rating is their refusal to issue an invoice for what was a very expensive stay. They blame Booking.com, Booking blames the hotel. I don't actually care whose fault it is, a customer should be able to expect an invoice after a stay and the continued lack of responsibility or customer service is deeply disappointing from both parties.
- 5/5
Great hotel! We booked a balcony room, this made our trip and was worth every penny! This was great for sitting out on enjoying a last few bit of the days sunshine before going out for the evening. The hotel was in a great location and really quiet, we had a great nights sleep and the staff were super helpful. I honestly couldn't pick anything, it was a great hotel and really recommend.

It was cute, but not great. My windows looked to a brick wall. I guess rhat can't be helped to some degree. The pillows were the highlight of my stay. Very comfortable. I would recommend this hotel, only of the price was absolutely right. Meaning under 200 for sure.
- 1.5/5
The property was centrally located in Manhattan. The bed was comfortable. The staff of the property especially at the check in it was very cold and not welcoming. In addition, the employee that took our luggage when we checked out made awful comments on how we feel and if I have beautiful eyes. Really awkward behavior from a person at his age. The hotel is very noisy especially in the mornings where cleaning personnel are slamming the doors next to our room. I would not recommend this place.

On the not so great side, the rooms are very small (as you'd expect in a hotel built in the 1920s), the AC was really struggled, (set on 65, room temp 78.). The amenities in the room were not great quality: thin towels and not many of them, the TV didn't work properly, etc. Not terrible, but at almost $700/night I really expect more. Felt like a $350/night hotel room instead.
- 4/5
The staff was top notch, especially the gentleman at the bar. Wish they had a restaurant but that’s the only complaint!

I stayed one night to be close to an early morning appointment. The staff were friendly. The one bedroom suite in which I stayed was comfortable and relatively clean. My only issue was the air vent on the ceiling in the bedroom that appeared to need to be cleaned. Otherwise, the suite was nice, quiet, and well furnished. There were plenty of well-placed outlets in the suite, and the bedroom lighting was not too bright, so I was able to relax comfortably. The lobby area is attractive. I had tea and a fresh pastry in their market seating area in the morning. I would love to return for a longer stay.

Clean and well located. On my first night after a long transatlantic flight, and with a full day of meetings to rest up for the following day - I had a very bad experience during the night. Maintenance staff range my room phone at 3:30am to say there was a fault with the fire alarm in my room on their maintenance panel (there was nothing wrong in the room) and that they would have to send someone up. I got up and dressed and waited but nobody came. After a wait time of 15-20 minutes i called front desk who was unaware but asked her supervisor who said that the matter had been resolved and that they "tried to contact me" (they didn't!!). I couldn't get back to sleep so it ruined by night's rest and impacted my work day following. When i brough this up to front desk they were very unhelpful, in fact rude. I tried to explain that the only reason I book a hotel any trip to New York is not for the bar, lobby or atmosphere, but purely for a comfortable night sleep which they had very much ruined for me.

This hotel is one of the best that you could find in Manhattan. Value for money couldn’t be any better and the rooms are very comfortable, clean and quiet. The location is ideal, the area is very peaceful and at the same time very central, only 15 mins walk to Central Station. It is near the main embassies which naturally makes the area safe and pleasant to walk around. I travelled with my mom and we came back absolutely delighted with our stay.

- 4/5
Great location close to either grand central or the boats to brooklyn/wallstreet. Clean and quite comfortable bed, even tho we unfortunately got a folding bed instead of what we booked; a normal bed. Great black out curtains and good room. Great that we got water every day for free. Easy check in/out. In general good housekeeping every day. Nice with free coffee in the room also! We would return! The bathtub drain was blocked & shower was very week. Only one elevator was working during our 5 night stay, and sometimes we even had to walk up 8 floors due to elevator broken late at night. No staff offered any compensation or help. Very very easy to hear neighbours, but I guess its standard in old budlings. Also, the man that collected our bags during checkout was very rude when we stated we did not want to book a taxi via him to the airport. Very strange treatment and attitude. Housekeeping missed to dust off floor and furniture's, and everything that touched the floor got dusty/dirty.
- 4.5/5
The hotel is in a great place, a short walk to central station. Not too far from all the main Manhattan attractions. We had a King room and it was very spacious and nice. The bed was really comfortable. We had one issue which the staff sorted immediately for us, they were very helpful indeed. The only issue we had was that our original room had an adjoining door, which we could hear our neighbours through. The staff were accommodating and moved us to another room.

This property was an excellent experience all around. Beginning with a prompt greeting at the entrance, to the welcoming smile and helpful service at the front desk. The lobby is not only clean, but elegant and inviting with plenty of seating to just sit and relax. There are 3 elevators, so there's almost no waiting to get to your room. Each floor is decorated beautifully with easy to find rooms. We stayed in a Luxe King Room with a Balcony. It was very spacious with plenty of storage space and a built in safe. Again, beautifully decorated and very clean. The bed was extremely comfortable with plenty of pillows. The bathroom was well stocked and had an amazing bathtub that was large enough to completely stretch out and submerge in... such a rare treat!! Overall one of the best hotels I've ever stayed at, would highly recommend!!

The Westgate is my “go to” hotel in New York, particularly when I am participating in an event at the United Nations as it is just a very brief walk back and forth each day… the staff always greet me with a “welcome back” and always go out of their way to be accommodating… I like the casement style widows that actually open and let in the air and New York ambience… I prefer older-style hotels that are kept in excellent condition with painted wood trim like the Westgate… The Westgate is very clean and the beds are very comfortable… a lot of the best of New York is within walking distance… look forward to being back soon!

The staff was absolutely wonderful. The doorman Tony was very funny, thoughtful, and helpful. There was another doorman working in the evenings, I did not catch his name. Very friendly and helpful with transportation. Christina at the check in counter was very friendly and helpful. The building was in a great area, very clean, quiet, and nestled in a neighborhood with everything you need in walking distance. from CVS, coffee shops both private and chain, amazing food and diners. Walking distance to grand central station, subways, Broadway, Time's Square, and Rockefeller Plaza. Great experience and felt like home- not a hotel. There was nothing I didn't like. It was nothing but a positive experience from beginning to end.
- 5/5
Staff was amazing and the room was clean. I always enjoy staying at this hotel. Thank you so much!
- 5/5
What really made the experience stand out though was the staff. Every single person we interacted with was beyond friendly, welcoming, and genuinely helpful. They went out of their way to make everything easy for us, from organizing luggage storage so we could enjoy our day stress-free, to quickly setting up a taxi without any hassle. It’s rare to find a place that nails both style and service this well, but they did exactly that. Hands down one of the best hotel experiences I’ve ever had. I wouldn’t hesitate to stay here again!
- 2/5
Room was not ready upon arrival but was offered free breakfast. Breakfast is prepacked (juice, water, yogurt, banana, and choice of bread). The room was visually clean but mattress was dirty and stained. The bathroom is not girl friendly. Cheap toiletries, and cheap in room refreshments. Worst of all, there seems to be rats, and they kept us up all night trying to break something!! I would not stay here again.

The room was wonderful—a very cozy and stylish space. There is everything necessary for convenience. It was also very clean, and the bed was comfortable. Check-in and check-out were very quick. While the room and bathroom are quite small, the stay was comfortable. A major highlight was the heating system, which worked very well and was quiet, making it easy to get a good night's rest. If you are looking for a modern, well-priced stay and don't mind a smaller room, this is a fantastic choice.

The room was comfortable. Two things that I didn’t like: the bathtub was clogged (it didn’t drain fast enough) and the bed’s backboard was dusty. But besides that all was good. Loved the location and the bellhops were amazing.

Spent 2 weeks there and chose this hotel because it was within walking distance to many areas and especially close to the conferences held at the UN. It is registered as a historic hotel, built in 1927. It is a brick and mortar style building. Therefore the furniture in the room reflects that--desk chair, desk, and wall bed. The window panes are the original ones, with no insulation as modern windows have today. Therefore the room can be very drafty even with the windows closed and the shades drawn. I think I had a wall bed or murphy bed. It was difficult to navigate getting in and out of bed because of the sofa-like protruding arms that ran nearly lengthwise along both sides of a king size bed. My room on the 9th floor directly faced 42nd street. Since this is an older building with very little insulation and no soundproofing, it is very noisy day and night with incessant horn-honking, and ambulance and police sirens, plus the usual vehicle traffic. This made it difficult to sleep. Bring earplugs. Nonetheless, the housekeeping staff clean the rooms everyday, unless the do not disturb sign is on your door. They really do a stellar job in cleaning the rooms, and in making up the weird shaped bed. They manage to tuck in the bedding neatly every time in spite of those weird protruding sidearms. The towels and bed linens are spotless and very clean. There is a small refrigerator in the room, an iron, ironing board, a coffee maker, hair dryer, NO microwave, no restaurant.

Perfect size hotel for what I needed. I love original character so The Westgate was the right fit. Room was clean and updated. Very cozy and comfortable.

Room was not ready, 3hrs after check in time. Gave us a different room, said it was the same. It was not- spent hours trying to rectify it they did nothing. Finally received a partial refund days after trip.

Great location, staff was friendly, room was super-clean. Highly recommend for a NYC Hotel. Very safe too.

Water was not hot the first day. We were next to a very loud ice machine that was being used at all hours. Window insulation was poor so room temp control wasn't great. Elevators were very fast and plentiful. Room was clean. Staff were efficient.

Great location!! Beautiful blend of modern and historical design. Lots of original/restored details. Much character in this hotel. Comfortable beds. The chevron wood floors are very pretty but an area rug underneath the bed for comfort would be nice and add visual grounding for the rooms. The private attached terrace offers *Rare* exceptional views.

Room was small but neat and functional. Location was great for our purpose, ambience was nice in reception, nice bar and convenience center. Enjoyed our stay.

Love staying at the Westgate Grand Central, Everyone there is polite Cabinet at the front that’s cause. I’m amazing Jose, Sam, at the coffee shop in morning are great to talk to, and pleasant to be around

Rainbow spacious Hotel staff went above and beyond to head over encounter. Only downside was a hotel would not refund first night's day due to weather conditions. Flights canceled, NewYork was essentially shut down on day one of my stay.

Only complaint was a smoke detector right above the bed that would periodically flash a light (no noise). You wouldn’t notice it until the room is black and you’re trying to sleep. Would recommend bringing an eye cover or sleeping with a pillow over your face.

The room was hot. We called the front desk and they sent maintenance to our room, the only thing he did was turn the fan speed to low. It was on high already and wasn't doing anything. We had the air set to 68 and it never kicked on. It got up to 75 at night. The bar staff was awesome!

They initially assigned me the wrong room- I had paid for king but was sent to queen. They corrected it immediately when I let them know, but also moved me from a room that had a tub and a decent view to one with a shower and airshaft. That said, I was looking for something quiet, and it was a wonderful refuge from the sound and lights of the city- I slept VERY well! Amazingly quiet for midtown.

Excellent location. Nice old charming fashion hotel with modern accomodations. Very friendly staff. Unfortunately we git a back room with no street view, but in NY city, that's aways a possibility.

The lobby is lovely! The staff was extremely helpful. My room was small but it was a great value for Manhattan!

This hotel is centrally located and convenient if you want to be in mid town, restaurants and transportation are all close, more so, Kevin at the front desk is one of the greatest people i’ve ever felt with, and Jose, at the caffe is wonderful to wake up and go to, I can only speak the truth reaction

Cleanest hotel I’ve stayed in NYC! Great location, friendly staff and spacious rooms. We will definitely be back!

We did not have breakfast at the hotel. There were options in the market that looked great.
- 5/5
Wonderful views and spacious for family of 3
- 5/5
Room was spotless, nicely renovated and reasonably updated bathroom. The walk-in shower was well done/higher end touch but the water pressure/volume is disappointing and the sink is abnormally low, but these were minor quibbles. My only major objection here is the outrageous $40 per day “resort fee” which covers one water bottle per guest/day, in-room internet, free local calls (in the age of cell phone ubiquity this seems particularly silly). Just an excuse to jack up what seems to be a very reasonable rate for NYC and this particular neighborhood. Given the great location, pleasant room, good professional service and excellent daily housekeeping, it takes some of the sting off the resort fee charge and I still definitely recommend this place.
- 5/5
Wonderful hotel close to everything. Staff were friendly and the room was very clean and room. I'll definitely be back!
- 2/5
Reserved & paid for a deluxe Queen room & got a shoebox of a room. They did not accommodate us all. Won’t stay there again
- 5/5
Best hotel! great location! The staff was so nice.
- 5/5
It was clean and nice. The door men were very helpful!
- 5/5
It was great! Spacious, clean, the updates were lovely. I especially appreciated the triple-paned windows keeping out the city noise. The staff was friendly and professional. It was a wonderful place to stay, with all the amenities you'd expect from a 4-star hotel. Our room even had a separate bidet.
- 5/5
The hotel staff is incredibly friendly and accommodating. My room was great but the staff was the highlight--warm, friendly and very helpful. Thank you so much for making me feel at home!
- 4/5
The property was nicely kept. Rooms are small, like extremely tiny.

Room was clean, hotel was beautiful, and staff was nice!
- 5/5
Very clean nice room quality staff good location
- 5/5
Room was clean and had everything that I needed for my overnight stay.
- 5/5
The hotel’s location is excellent — right in the city center and very close to the main attractions. The staff were very friendly and knowledgeable, especially the doorman/concierge at the entrance. The room is small but clean and nicely furnished. The view from our window was stunning — a beautiful sunrise and an equally beautiful city at night. If I come here again, I would happily stay at this hotel. Highly recommended.

Your website advertised a restaurant but it has been closed since Covid per the staff. It was inconvenient to get a quick meal at our hotel.
- 5/5
Great room and the staff was the best! Definitely will stay here again!
- 4/5
5 stars for staffs interactions. 4 stars for the noise, we were out for most of the day and only noticed the noise at night. Sounded like construction going on next door or near by.
- 4/5
Staff was helpful and kind. The rooms were nice and clean. The ac/heat made a loud noise when shutting off. Otherwise the stay was great! Will stay again.
- 5/5
We had a wonderful time staying at this good value hotel. The room and bathroom were well looked after. The reception staff and doormen were all very helpful and friendly. Room had a slightly dated aesthetic but this didn't subtract anything from the overall experience. It was easy to get cabs or take the nearby subway from this hotel as well.
- 5/5
We stayed here last year and the staff was awesome!!! I knew that this year, we would be returning to the Westgate. Tony, Sam and I'm sorry I can't remember everyone's names, made our stay very enjoyable once again and hopefully we will be back next January!!! If you are looking for a clean, quiet, affordable stay in Midtown, the Westgate Grand Central is it!!! I would recommend this hotel to anyone! Thanks y'all for a wonderful time in NYC!

The Westgate hotel this location in New York has the kindest staff I’ve ever dealt with in my career going to hotels. They are very classy very polite. Very nice everybody there is in line and respectful. This is the 10th time I’ve stayed there. I’ll only stay there from now on in New York.

On Saturday the 3rd, I reported to the front desk around 6:15 PM that my room had no hot water and had not been cleaned. I was assured both issues would be handled. When I returned around 10:30 PM, nothing had been done. I called the front desk again and was told someone would come, but no timeframe was given. I waited until 1:30 AM, and no one ever showed up. My room was still dirty, and I still had no hot water. The next morning, I had to call again. Maintenance finally came, but the water was only lukewarm and still on the cold side. I had no choice but to shower like that in order to check out by 12 PM, which is unacceptable—especially while traveling for business. At checkout, I explained everything to the front desk. I was told the manager would be informed, yet the manager never came out to speak with me, offer an apology, or attempt to resolve the situation. When I asked why, I received no response. Lack of hot water, an uncleaned room, broken promises, and no management accountability made this a very frustrating stay.
- 3/5
This is an attractive, centrally located property. All of the staff was excellent, friendly, and helpful. The only reason why we gave it 3 stars was this: the temperature of the room was so warm. We had windows open (and it was below freezing outside), we turned on the air conditioning, but it would just not cool off the room, so it was an uncomfortable night where we couldn’t sleep well. The room was not super clean (Hairs in the bathroom, smudges on flat surfaces, etc.). We also did have to wait 30–40 minutes after the 3 PM check-in to even get into the room because they still hadn’t cleaned it.
- 5/5
Charming hotel, great location, close to Grand Central. Room was clean, but not spotless as one might expect in a very old building with likely original windows and doors. Did not bother us in the slightest as the details were beautiful, and staff were thoughtful and courteous

Great room…clean. Love the smell of the air :-)
- 5/5
Such a great experience! Can’t wait to return
- 3/5
Staff was curtious, The only problem being completely honest was the room was so small and its a suite. It was smaller than a studio apt. For what i paid and the pictures it showed i thought it would be a whole different rokm from what we got, and i paid for 2 rooms.
- 5/5
The staff was superb, specially Mr Matthew the doorman. Self parking within walking distance and hotel location is fantastic.
- 5/5
Great hotel, good location and value for money.

The room was great! Pillows were absolutely comfortable. The staff was absolutely amazing

Staff are excellent front desk doorman security helpful very responsive to guests needs
- 5/5
Clean room, comfy bed, nice staff
- 4/5
We liked it but the pictures aren’t similar to what you get. Overall it was okay. Also the square footage for the room wasn’t correct. On Hotels it says it’s a 200+sqft room and in reality it’s around 120-150sqft
- 3/5
Cleanse. Shower curtail smells
- 5/5
The customer service was A+. The front desk staff could not have been more kind or helpful, and the Bell Hops were just as kind and helpful. They allowed us to check in at noon, with no added fee. I could not have been happier.
- 5/5
Room was perfect for our stay. It was super clean and the staff was amazingly helpful. conveniently located to Grand Central, Bryant Park, 5th Avenue And Time Square.

Room was immaculate and facilities were perfect! Would definitely recommend!
- 5/5
Highly recommend this hotel. Everyone was super nice, our room was on the smaller side but it was comfortable, quiet and didn’t have carpet which I prefer. The little market is nice to buy snacks and the bar is a nice size. I’d definitely stay here again. Good location for Ubers too!
- 5/5
Great people!
- 5/5
Room was clean, staff was courteous. It felt like a quaint hotel with nice-sized rooms and good closet space. My view was awful so if that’s important ask if there are rooms with a view. A view wasn’t important on this trip so I was fine without it. There’s an espresso machine in the room and they serve a limited Starbucks beverage menu at the bar. I would definitely stay here again.

Room was clean but only one bedside table. One side of the bed had no bedside table or any outlets. Lighting in the bathroom was great, but the room was very dark (two wall lights, one tiny desk light). Nice bar area and seating area. Great location close to Grand Central Station for access to the metro.
- 3/5
The shower only provides lukewarm water.
- 3/5
Location was good. Somewhat loud as you could hear others water running. And couldn’t adjust heat. You were either cold with it off or boiling. But it was good for the 1 night we stayed

Staff stood out for sure. They are all extremely professional and kind. Rooms are fine but a bit tired, especially the bathrooms. The shower switch did not work properly.
- 4/5
Nicely appointed & cozy room. The shower was a little clogged. We were in a room near the elevator and ice machines & they were really loud. The bed & pillows were quite comfortable & the holiday decor in the lobby was charming. It was a good area too.
- 4/5
Overall a really nice place to stay. The breakfast is disappointing with only packaged food items. However, Starbucks coffee however was freshly brewed at the bar.
- 5/5
I enjoyed interacting with the staff especially. Always courteous and very helpful and respectful. That to me says a lot about the companies’ commitment to their policies. The room was very clean too.

- 4/5

- 5/5
I liked the stay and the close location to anywhere we wanted to go. There were days we didn’t even need to use the subway. The only small thing that bothered us was the room was right by the elevators and we heard squeaky noise the whole time ppl were using it.
- 4/5
the bathroom had a window crack and it was super cold in there.
- 3/5
The room had not been properly cleaned, there were clothes in the drawer from the last person. The bathroom was so cold and the heat did not work but the building is old and I think the windows just didn’t help with keeping it warm. The hotel is advertised as having car service, they do not. We had no idea where the gym or laundry was as I think we were just placed in a vacant room that was not desirable. Good things, bed was comfortable, we had enough towels and the location is great!
- 5/5
This stay was great. The rooms were nice and cozy and the staff were amazing. Very attentive. Amazing stay!
- 4/5
The room was clean and all staff excellent.
- 5/5
Unique large room. With balcony. Staff was very friendly. Very quiet.
- 5/5
When we were being charged an unreasonable amount for a very short pedicab ride, they immediately stepped in, advocated for us, and helped ensure we were treated fairly. Their kindness, professionalism, and genuine care for guests were exceptional. Service like this is what makes a hotel memorable, and they made our stay outstanding.
- 5/5
Given the expectation of getting a smaller sized room in NYC, we were pleasantly surprised the room's size. Room was clean and the hotel historic, we liked the Westgate.
- 5/5
Friendly staff
- 5/5
Excellent location, quiet oasis 8 minutes walk from Grand Central! Staff courteous, wonderful spacious clean room with city view. Will definitely stay again!
- 5/5
We had an excellent stay! The entire staff was friendly and helpful. Room was spacious and clean. The location is perfect and near Grand Central Station. Would highly recommend and will definitely be staying here again.

(2) Worn & chipped furniture (3) poor value
- 5/5
Everything was very satisfying the only thing I would change is opening the coffee shop by 5:30 or 6:00 am. That might just be a me thing I am an early bird. Other than that it was great, very accommodating and the staff was very helpful when I had questions about directions or restaurants in the area 10/10 recommend
- 4/5
Clean room, friendly and helpful staff, great location for walking around the city and getting to all the major landmarks. Quiet area away from the hustle and noise. Would recommend and stay again.
- 5/5
The room was clean and comfortable. The room was lovely and overlooked quiet Tudor City.
- 5/5
Great hotel, great location, the staff is always friendly. I stay here every time I visit NYC and will continue to. But please clean the vents in the rooms at some point - they are filthy.
- 5/5
Room was clean and nice.
- 5/5
Beautiful, well appointed room in a great location. Would definitely stay here again.
- 5/5
The location was prime for all the walking around in the city. The bed was luscious with great pillows. So quiet at night and room was just right for the two of us. Really friendly staff! We’ll be back for sure!

Westgate is an adequate but unexceptional hotel. If you can get a good price, it's a solid option.

Love the set up of the room. Excellent lighting in the bathroom. Very comfortable bed and the staff were super nice. Finally, great location!

Lovely place. 1920s vibe. Def recommend
- 5/5
The room was large for NYC. The staff were excellent! Pretty clean. Would definitely stay again!

it s not a big hotel and very nice, helpful and polite staff. Very good location!
- 5/5
Great room
- 5/5
Lovely hotel. Great walking distance to everything.
- 1/5
The air conditioner unit made such a loud thumb every 20-30 min making it impossible to sleep! It felt like someone was breaking in the door … and when we confronted management they knew about it and didn’t tell us or warn us or what to do with the unit when it happened . Management didn’t show any concern at all. Also - tv terrible ! No connection to Netflix or Amazon .. we couldn’t watch anything . Paid a lot of money for loud hotel
- 4/5
Nice place, no microwave in the suite a little overpriced for what you get.
- 5/5
Reception staffs were very friendly and helpful, so were the valet staffs.
- 5/5
Great place very nice hotel to stay at.
- 5/5
perfect location, safe and walking distance to everything. Very convenient location.
- 4/5
The hotel was great. Very comfortable beds, great water pressure from the shower. Although we had a bad luck from the people above us very loud, kids jumping around, I had to call the front desk several times to complain. I don't know how much the hotel insisted them to keep it down, it didn't work out till we checked out and I know it's not really the hotel's fault but at the same time I wish they would've offered us another room or move the loud neighbors to another room. The hotel itself, I recommend it.
- 5/5

- 5/5
The room was clean and comfortable. We were initially in an ADA room which was not comfortable for us because we wanted a tub and standing shower. Staff was understanding and very accommodating as soon as a room opened up they upgraded us to a suite for the remainder of our stay. The location is perfectly suited for walking to so many of the activities on our itinerary. 10/10 recommend and will definitely be back if ever in NYC again.
- 4/5
The checking in was terrible but the all stay was good
- 5/5
Our stay was perfect. After an unexpected flight change we arrived there well before our check in time and Cristina was able to get us into two of our rooms so we could store our luggage and start exploring. Through out our stay all the staff were kind and helpful. The building is all brick for that old New York feel. The king size bedrooms were beautiful. Checking out they stored our luggage for us while we waited for our car service. Once again Cristina took good care of us at check out. I 100% recommend a stay here.

Nice hotel, all staff is very friendly. Good location. Amazing room, especially after being upgraded to top floor suite with a big balcony, a dream room in NYC.
- 5/5
This is in an excellent location. Walking distance to broadway shows, Grand Central and Times Square. It has new updates to an old historic Hotel! We had a room with a balcony that was very spacious, clean and also had a beautiful view of the river! I will stay here from now on!

Absolutely loved our stay at Westgate! All of the staff were incredibly friendly and kind, the rooms were comfortable and clean, and the location was perfect! We will definitely stay here again.

- 5/5
Great hotel. Great staff. Immaculate room.
- 5/5
Loved the beds, so comfortable! Everyone was so pleasant and the doormen let my kids go round and round in the door
- 4/5
Staff very friendly and cooperative.
- 4/5
Plenty of storage space in room and handy having an in room fridge
- 5/5
Everything was excellent

Me and my friends loved this place. Check in and check out was super smooth. Front desk would give you water everytime you entered or if you asked for it. Rooms super clean and location was incredible. Couldn’t recommend this place enough!
- 3/5
Do not disturb sign was ignored by housekeeping staff. Wanted to soak my feet after walking, pushed the tub stopper down and load of dirt or scum kept coming in the water. It seemed under that stopper needed to clean.
- 4/5
Clean and very convenient location.
- 4/5
The room was a bit smaller than expected, but overall it was a decent experience. I wish I had known about the $83 resort charge they add to your bill when you check in, rather than being hit with this surprise charge at check-in.
- 4/5
Good room
- 5/5
Room was clean, it has a thermostat so that’s a plus, just a cozy room, close to mainly everything.
- 5/5
Great location and service.
- 5/5

- 5/5
Excellent staff and location! Room was perfect and the shower! Chef’s kiss! We will be coming back!
- 5/5
Was a great experience!
- 4/5
Old style design, large room compared to other single rooms you come across in NYC ( you can walk around the bed!!) and a bathroom with a normal closing door ( barn sliding doors everywhere) few blocks away from Grand Central Station and other destination spots a plus
- 5/5
Extremely attentive and kind staff. The bar was nice and well stocked. We loved the location and our room was spotless
- 5/5
Butter, jam. Ham, cheese, eggs Etc...
- 5/5
Yes very clean and good service
- 3/5
The staff were excellent. I would have to say the room, considering what we were paying for it, was a bit of a letdown. VERY small. A "suite" apparently means there is a sofa in it. Bathroom designed with a half-door, virtually no place to put shampoo, shaving razors, etc. Non-working tea brewing machine, no microwave, very little surface space for chargers, lap-tops etc. And for some reason a roaring sound of running water, 24-7, like a toilet was running. Filled the whole room. Not the worst, but we probably would stay elsewhere in the future.
- 5/5
Clean rooms, hospitable staff, and excellent location.
- 5/5
Charming hotel with lovely staff. Made me feel welcome and taken care of.

Price could have been better, room and hotel felt tired
- 4/5
Very nice hotel
- 5/5
Great staff and location.
- 3/5
room was freezing. Couldn't figure out how to use the tub stopper for a bath. Bed was ok but squeaky. Staff was fine. Place was ok but not worth $420
- 4/5
counter space which is such a luxury at this price point. Short walk to Grand Central.
- 5/5
The room was amazing and so as the bathroom!
- 5/5
The doorman bellman and bartenders were amazing!!!! So friendly and helpful. Room was spacious and clean. Perfect location. Lots in walking distance and easy access to the subway.
- 4/5
Great location. Nice room.
- 2/5
There was not a special touch even though we mentioned we were celebrating a birthday. The elevators were very small and slow, with one being out of order the entire weekend.
- 4/5
Nice hotel and room, good location. Only annoyance was the plumbing would make sounds that sometimes disturbed my sleep.
- 5/5
Comfortable bed, clean room, nice place
- 5/5
Everything was great
- 5/5
Hotel was great! Full size tub!
- 5/5
Room was well maintained and cleaned daily
- 3/5
The space is just tired. There is rust in the bathroom and I’m not sure how anyone larger than myself could have fit on the toilet
- 5/5
Very nice room
- 5/5
Clean room, friendly staff
- 4/5
Was a nice hotel- the rooms were nicely set-up. However, walls and floors very thin and rooms close together. So it was quite a noisy hotel and that disrupted sleep
- 5/5
Loved the room and the service!
- 5/5
Belle situation de l'hotel et belle chambre propre
- 5/5
Love it

The balcony on the 20th floor offered a nice partial view of the East River, the street leading to it, and the street directly below. It was a very limited space balcony wide enough for two chairs and a table but no walk or standing space. Some balcony’s are different shapes and sizes. Staff were polite, helpful and friendly most of the time. Noise from mechanical workings adjacent to the room and on the roof above the room caused a lack of sleep. Staff dealt with problems by sending an engineer to check out the noise problem, and then offering a new room or small ‘maximum’ refund after exchanging several emails. The hotel apologised for the ‘inconvenience’. The siting of this hotel means that a number of police patrol helicopters survey the area during the early hours for several hours. The housekeeping staff were first rate and accepting of any requests. My friend and I made requests upon booking to be situated near each other if possible. We were five floors apart. We did not request breakfast service so are unable to comment. Two complimentary 500ml bottles of water were provided when we checked in. We had to purchase bottled water independently from local shop thereafter for the coffee machine in each of our rooms. Be aware that check out is at 12, it doesn’t leave a lot of the last day if you are on holiday.

PS- the hotel brags about their million plus dollar renovation but won’t give back my refund… it is very disgusting.
- 5/5
Everything was great, room staff helpful. Would stay there again. Great location
- 5/5
All perfect
- 5/5
great location clean friendly staff will definitely stay again!
- 1/5
Slamming doors thru the night, as late as 130am!! Clanking sounds thru my room, sounds like pipes banging. Booked a 2 queen bed room, check in and go to room to find I have a sofa bed!! Go to front desk to inquire and am then told oh I see a note! You didn’t see a note AT CHECK IN?! Told oh sorry, we over sold those rooms! So you’re stuck with what you have Absolutely disgusting
- 4/5
Room and employees were great, just the room was really small. When you walked out of the bathroom, you walk right into the bed.
- 5/5
A wonderful stay-the room was spotless, view amazing and everyone so helpful.
- 5/5
Great place! The staff were very kind. I would definitely come back.
- 3/5
The staff was great. Very attentive and kind. The room was fine. Not massive but clean and beds were comfortable. Location was good. However, the hidden amenity fee was quite hidden and high considering there were not significant amenities. Almost $400 dollars in addition to basic taxes and (expected) fees. Overall the stay was fine but more than we expected to pay for a single night's stay.
- 5/5
Great location to walk to mid town manhattan. Room was clean & well maintained. Staff were always friendly and helpful. Nice touches like 12 noon check out, free bottled water & available coffee pods for the room. Overall I'd definite highly recommend staying at this hotel
- 5/5
Great bar in lobby that also had great coffee and plentiful snacks
- 5/5
Clean room. Attractive hotel
- 5/5
Very clean and nice staff
- 4/5
Room cleaned every day, only got 3 Coffees in the room for 2 ppl would have liked 4 so 2 each. Room smaller than expected from photo, the bar was great and drinks were well priced. Nice historic building, I would recommend it for its location to grand central station and the Chrysler building
- 5/5
Staff were very friendly and helpful. Hotel was very clean and maintained would recommend it to everyone staying in the city.
- 5/5

Very nice stay. Lovely room and friendly staff.
- 3/5
The room was clean and spacious but dated. The balcony very small.
- 3/5
The room was mostly clean, but the A/C didn’t work properly and the floor was quite dirty. The staff and bellmen were extremely nice and helpful, though. Check-in was later than the expected time.

Room was very specious

This was a nice hotel, beautifully renovated with friendly professional staff and nice guests. My WiFi in my room was sketchy at times but I saw many guests working in the beautiful lounge area in the lobby. My room was nice, small and no view but very clean and comfortable with wonderful bedding, pillows and mattress. Would stay there again. Was there only a brief time for a meeting so can’t comment about the area around the property but close to Grand Central Station.
