Very clean and affordable, nice staff in a great location. The rooms are tiny and the corridors narrow, plus sharing bathrooms isn’t for everyone. But if you want to stay in one of Manhattan’s best neighborhoods for cheap, and just need a twin bed to sleep on, it’s an unusual but terrific option.
- 4/5
They really should have an ice machine for their guests and the water machine to fill up your bottle downstairs is room temperature and that is being generous
- 3/5
It’s the type of place that you would go to if you don’t want to inside all day.
- 5/5
The Hotel did what was intended. No frills. I got the sleep/ rest I needed in a safe environment. Remember, U use a communal bathroom and the rooms are small. Right across from the Hudson River Walk.

Good location, a two-minute walk to the waterfront, and the subway and cafés are not far away. It’s fairly quiet. There’s no breakfastoption, but they offer free coffee in the lobby in the morning. There were problems with the hot water in the shower, so we had to use a shower on another floor.

It offers an affordable option for lodging in Manhattan, if the room size or services don’t matter much.
- 4/5
Spotless tiny room. It is tiny at 50 sq ft. but has marble shelves above the covered heat source which makes for nice warm towels, and thoughtful lighting, a mounted retro fan, and a/c.
- 4/5
This is a good, inexpensive option in Manhattan, 2 blocks from the Whitney and the High Line. To be clear, the room is tiny, definitely just for sleeping. And there is one shared bathroom per floor. But it’s clean and has everything you need. The small lobby has nice seating and some wonderful art books.
- 3/5
The staff are kind and room is very clean but the corridor smells too bad.
- 5/5
Stay was great. The receptionist was incredibly kind when I accidentally puked on steam rice. Cleaned up everything too for me. Really appreciate that! They also got me a new card when I locked my old one in my room on accident. They also held my bags for me when I went on my helicopter ride.

This hotel has two names. It was The Jane forever and now it is West Eurohostel or something like that. The rooms are so small you can touch both walls by standing in the center of the room. I love it. It is functional and safe but the prices keep climbing. It was $100 last year. It was $150 last week. It's $200 in May. The problem is you can't get anything cheaper that is not a scam or in a bad area.

There aren’t any amenities in this facility. Mattresses can be okay or horrible depending on room assignment. No coffee or tea or snacks of any kind Check out is 10am. Additionally, the heat, TV, A/C may or may not be functional. The staff are friendly and try to be as accommodating as they can be. The owner of the Jane Eurohostel clearly has no comcern for the comfort of the hostel guests. Seems like he is just waiting to be able to turn the Jane into a total private club.

Thus I was left without a room to sleep in with a dead-end kinda reasoning - "new management." (by the way, did you know that after midnight it's impossible to book a hotel for the same day, since the date is no longer available)

The pictures are the same as the old Jane Hotel that had culture, atmosphere and cleanliness. When I arrived, there was instead a sign saying it was a hostel. The decor has completely changed to a star plane lobby.. other rooms on my floor smelled so bad as if someone had died in the room. It was creepy. There was no longer access to a bar on the top level. It was a completely different atmosphere where the majority of the hotel has turned into a private club that a hotel guest has no access to. Frankly, I would want to have no access to the atmosphere. That was there. The way that this is advertised as the Jane hotel still is fraudulent and it should be inspected and taken down as a listing. it was absolutely not as advertised and as a fraud. See my comment above. I still stayed there, but I slept with one eye open. I was not comfortable. The young girl at the front desk was friendly, but it was a ridiculous situation.. you should not be able to advertise as if they are the old set up that had style and was a great place to stay. I will never be back. What a shame that the old hotel was lost in its splendor.

- 3/5
The staff was impeccable. My only complaint is the temperature- it was like a sauna in that room and nothing I did helped to get the temperature right (air conditioner, open window).
- 4/5
The staff was helpful and courteous and the place seemed well maintained
- 1/5
The heat was over 90 degrees on the whole 4th floor. The concierge said he could NOT turn off the heat. Many guests had their front doors open thru the night. We were told to run the A/C to counter the heat. Any person could have a heat stroke in those conditions. I requested another room and still had to run the A/C full blast all night long as it was too late to move hotels at midnight.
- 1/5
So in fairness, comparitively speaking, we did not spend a lot of money to be here but it was HORRIBLE! The front desk person was so sweet but the room was so hot we got dressed for the day in the bathroom. They clearly knew there was a problem as we were instructed on how to open our window even though it was 25 degrees outside. In short, the room was unbearably hot and smelled like smoke. It is worth the extra money to spend the night anywhere else but here.
- 3/5
For a hostel, it’s not bad at all. Clean with a friendly staff. But if bed comfort is important to you, I would not stay. It’s basically an ultra slim mattress on top of a wooden box. My back was killing me after 2 nights. AC worked great though and it was quiet so that’s my only complaint.

The room itself was pretty good, but the fan didnt work and the a/c only went down so low. The rooms are kept very humid, so having the a/c be more flexible would be nice.
- 3/5
For the price, it was awesome. They need to pay a little more attention to keeping the community bathrooms clean but otherwise, clean room, nice staff, comfy bed, tiny space, tiny price. Easy walk to 14th St Subway and Chelsea Market.
- 2/5
Good staff, but absolutely tiny room - not NYC tiny but barely walkable, like two people couldn't stand together!

What really ruined my week was in the "something else" category: Part of the building which used to house only The Jane Hotel has been rented to a party company and events are held there most evenings. One night, about two hours after I had gone to sleep, I was suddenly awakened by the loud sound of some large wooden object hitting the other side of the wall adjacent to my bed. I opened my door and saw people carrying wooden tables and chairs into the room to store. They apologized for awakening me. One of them said she just needed five more minutes (which ended up being 30 minutes) until 2:10am. As it turns out, they were from the party company, not the hotel. I reported it to the front desk the next morning. The desk clerk promised to take care that it would not happen again. At the end of the week, on my seventh and last night, it happened again, only later, and louder, with different workers. This time one of them said "Look, I have to do my work." and "We're going to finish."

I was attacked by bedbugs And there were blood stains on my left hand

Great stay.
- 1.5/5
Staff was friendly and they made the effort to keep the bathrooms as clean as possible. The Jane Hotel is no longer what it used to be. They have closed off areas such as the lobby, rooftop and everything that made the original hotel so captivating. It’s now a hostel, for a good price but be prepared to enter through a completely blocked off entrance. It was quite depressing and I will not return. Luckily it was cold so my windows stayed open, but it’s incredibly hot if not.
- 1.5/5
The location is amazing. This hostel/hotel used to be charming. Now it’s just dingy and gross. It reeked of pot and the staff was coming and going all night long through the halls of our floor.
- 4/5
It was reasonably priced, and the accommodations were well suited for that
- 3/5
Everything was as I expected. I booked the room because I needed to be in the city the first Saturday in December and even three months out the cheapest option with a private bath was astonishingly high - even higher closer to the date. I took a chance on this, and it was fine, but I’d rather not repeat it if I don’t have to.
- 4/5
Clean my towel was probably new.Quiet bed wasn't very comfortable, but it did the job decent location as a single traveler. It was perfect
- 1/5
It was really smelly, too hot, unclean, and was nothing like the photos.
- 2/5
The “room” itself was clean. The bathrooms were not disgusting, but wouldn’t call them clean. There was bad smell in the halls, especially cigarette smoke. Feels like there’s people who live there full time. The price is crazy for what it offers… but anything else in NYC this week was $600 per night so, yeah.
- 1/5
Pretty bad. The heating is all tied into one boiler so the room was like a sauna. They told me to open the window (in Dec) and turn on the AC (which didn't work). Also, the grand lobby is no longer a part of the Jane. Sounds like some private equity company bought it.
- 2/5
room was like a sauna

We loved staying here! It was a very unique experience, in a very historic place of New York City. It’s not like your typical hotel and that’s what makes it special. It’s an experience.

Very gross.

Small room but great staff and location.
- 2/5
It's sad what has become of this hotel. It used to be so grand, but now the upstairs is a private club for the wealthy and normal hotel guests must be slink in through the basement and sad black elevator. The WiFi is also not great.
- 1/5
Location. That was the literal only thing. - no hot water in showers -showers with broken flooring -rooms are scorching hot. Ac won't stay on. Asked staff to look at it....still doesn't work. - the ENTIRE theme is different despite pictures remaining up for booking. Basic-boring-and not worth the price.
- 5/5
We loved this place! It is very unique and totally historical!
- 3.5/5
The location was great. Room was small but we expected that. Everything was kept very clean . Please make the 2 shared bathrooms and shower separate.. one for men and one for women . I did not pay for a hostel so I don’t want to be in the bathroom and a strange man comes out of the shower with only a towel. Heat in the room was unbearable and we slept with windows wide open and fan on in the middle of December.
- 2.5/5
Location. Clean. The hotel is a shadow of its former self. The lobby is very unappealing. And there are zero amenities. The atmosphere is a bit depressing.
- 4/5
Room was clean and quiet and staff were friendly and efficient. In the winter - know that when you first get into the room it will be hot - but you can turn on the air-conditioner and a fan (and open the window) to keep it cool. The shared bath is ok - two toilet closed stalls - very sparse but fine. If you were in a college dorm this might feel familiar. Good location - felt safe and the area around the hotel was clean. Recommend for the adventurous who don't need a lot of space or their own bathroom.
- 2/5
Overall, The Jane has seen better days. The hallways smelled like cat pee most of the time. Staff moving about the hallways were super loud and disruptive. The bathroom was the worst shared bathroom I've experienced in any country or city. Water was never warm, the bathroom was never clean. It was just gross. I also wasn't a fan of using the service elevator. I work in the hotel industry and having to squeeze past service carts continously is just annoying. I most likely won't stay here again. Id rather pay more and not have to deal with all of these inconveniences.
- 1/5
Rooms were dirty, tired and impossibly small. The hallways smelt of stale urine. Sketchy characters seemed to have taken up residence there. There was zero customer service and overall felt worse than the cheapest hostel. There is a new owner and half the hotel has been turned into some private club. Before this takeover I stayed here a dozen times and always loved it. Now it is definitely neglected and down in the dumbs. Do NOT stay here!!
- 3/5
The showers were medium Warm but not hot…. It would of bin nice to ha a cup in The cabin The staff was professional and kind
- 2/5
I've stayed at The Jane many times over the years. The recent configuration has lost the charm of the past. The desk staff was alright but not engaging. And the room was too damn hot. I had the window open in mid-November with the A/C running and it was too hot to sleep. I guess I'll find somewhere else to stay next time.
- 4/5
re temp. temp was so high that to sleep I had to leave window open and fan on. Would appreciate access to an ice machine but otherwise. happy and will return and recommend
- 1/5
The Ac is not working it was extremely hot .its nightmare staying at this place .its shared bathroom for everyone in the floor .it stinks. Rooms are extremely small
- 3/5
Room was really a lot smaller than the images in the web site. View this as poor communications on your part! Desk clerk ay check in was not really very courteous, as if we were interfering with his day! No explanation of the use of the key and room light activator rod!! Bathroom was clean.
- 5/5
As advertised, great for solo travelers!
- 2/5
The room and hotel is so run down. Heater too hot. Couldn’t close window. Unpleasant smell in the hallway.
- 5/5
I stayed in a single "cabin" room which is a good description and the photos are accurate. It is a clean, quiet, place to sleep and has a shared bath down the hall. It is what people used to do all the time - small rooms, shared bath, and you go out to socialize. Convenient to the Whitney, Chelsea Market and fancy stores - I was smitten with this hotel that is more like a shipboard experience - and at half the price of most other nearby places. Not for everyone, but I liked it.
- 2/5
Room too small, I ended up with bruises all over my body because I kept hitting myself with everything in the room, the heat was too much. Location is great tho.
- 3/5
Rooms very small, bar closed lobby closed.
- 2/5
The hotel is completely changed. They now have no restaurant no lounge area and the rooms are exceptionally small.
- 5/5
Charming area within Greenwich Village! The neighborhood is walkable and safe! Rooms and bathrooms are clean. Only one elevator so can be a little slow getting to your room on the street level.
- 5/5

- 5/5
Clean room and friendly staff. Cant beat the price for a night in nyc.
- 5/5
Great (as usual) for the solo traveler. Reception was warm and welcoming too!
- 1/5
I knew going into it that the room wasn’t going to be great. I mainly booked with this hotel because of its advertised “history and charm”. I then later find out that is no longer as well - definitely not worth the price you pay, even if it’s cheaper than most other options. The pictures online are areas no longer open to the public. They turned any beautiful it had left into a private night club for members only. Even the front desk picture on their website is false advertising. The “new lobby” in the basement is as bland as it gets. No water, no coffee. No life to it at all. The rooms are unbelievably small with dorm style mattresses where you can feel every spring. The bedding is bare minimum and not comfortable at all. The bathroom was shared and dirty, lacking any extra amenities besides the absolute bare minimum. I was awoken every 20 minutes throughout the night to doors slamming or people walking past our room. The walls are so thin that you can hear everything. Like I said, I originally booked it for the history and charm and was going to let the rest slide but I was highly disappointed that it didn’t even include that. I couldn’t wait to leave in the morning. I’d recommend spending the extra $100 and staying elsewhere.
- 3/5
Nice staff. The floor we were on smelled of urine through the halls. Bathrooms were very clean though. Just really the hals had a smell on the 3rd CB floor. The price was de went considering it’s nyc though.
- 2/5
I stayed in The Jane Hotel countless times between 2008 and 2023. It was quirky and always an interesting time. I knew that the property sold a couple of years ago and a private club was taking over the public spaces. I waited for the transition to be completed and decided that last weekend would be the right time to revisit my old haunt, so to speak. Sadly, I have no words to accurately describe what is happening there now. It is not business as usual as the hotel website pictures suggest. Yes they send an email prior stating that there is construction in the area (I guess across the street as the hotel project seems complete). Staying there now feels like you are paying to sleep in the middle of the staging area for the private club, complete with employees chatting, laughing, banging and scrambling throughout the new hotel entrance and hallways. Some hotel rooms are used for offices and others are used for storage. The entire weekend a clothing rack was placed adjacent to the elevator, limiting passage for the guests and the employees (breaking fire code?). There was no regard for the guests paying to sleep in nearby rooms. Even the basics were a hot mess - there was little little to no hot water the entire time I was there, the fire alarm repeatedly sounded one night, and I understand that internet and elevator services have been intermittent in the past as well.
- 1/5
Bathrooms were terribly gross, hair everywhere and smelled terribly.

It is what it is , a discount hotel in NYC
- 3/5
Nice people. But they were doing some construction with no previous notification in the room located right next to mine.

If you just want a single bed to sleep, then this is a decent place.

Like staying there when I'm in town. Friendly staff and the room is cozy. Good for me.
- 2.5/5
location great rooms miniscule and clostraphobic , expensive but great location staff cannot be faulted however toilet was blocked in shared bathroom i informed staff but six hours later when going to the bathroom i found myself wading through sewage overflow in myt socks very unpleasant shared batroom abd poor plumbing
- 1/5
The Jane Hotel was the worst lodging experience I've ever had. The community bathroom (two showers, two toilets for a floor of some 25 rooms) was not mentioned on the Expedia website about the hotel. On Thursday night, a man down the hall was cursing loudly for two hours to the extent that I couldn't fall asleep. Later that night, I spotted a cockroach in the toilet area. On Friday night 10/17/25 I went to bed at 10:45 p.m. and a maintenance man woke me up at 11:30, knocking on my door by mistake because the room next door was leaking water from the ceiling; for the next two hours I heard grunts and the sounds of buckets slamming and water sloshing. The window in my room didn't close properly and I was cold all night. I barely slept. The hotel is in an excellent location but its services should be suspended immediately by the NYC health department.
- 2.5/5
Great location, clean, friendly staff, and the cheapest price available in Manhattan. The bed was horrendously uncomfortable. I knew the space was going to be small, but the mattress was old, and you could feel every spring. Also, the wifi only worked sporadically and was very slow.
- 3/5
The images used in hotels.com are deceiving, as the rooms are the size of a train suite, extremely small. Beware if you’re traveling with family. Water in showers was not hot enough. Not ADA friendly.
- 1/5
Please read until the end. This hotel is one of the most affordable in Manhattan. It's conveniently located near some river side trails, and the Highline Trail which is a must see. There's underground city parking (not affiliated with the hotel at all) right next door. Be prepared to pay over $200 to park there for any long period of time. The hallways are small and so are the basic rooms. You will have to use a community bathroom, but they are clean. They provide a robe for you to use. I would suggest making sure that you have flip flops or slippers. The doors to the shower room and toilet room both lock. All of that being said, I would NEVER stay there again because the hotel has BEDBUGS! At least my room did, and I can't imagine that I was the only unlucky one. I was itching and developing whelps on my arms, ankles, neck, and head very shortly after the second night. I'm still itching four days later. The cheap price isn't worth it. Pay the extra money to stay at a more expensive hotel, find one a ways away and take the commuter train in, or if you have no other option, bring a good sleeping bag, and possibly your own pillows. A word to the wise.
- 4/5
Very, very small rooms
- 5/5
Staff was great and helpful about the neighborhood.
- 2/5
I advise paying for a better hotel. Shared bathroom, tiny rooms that smell strange, and no heat until maybe November so if you go in Oct, it’s chilly in the tiny cabin. Bed is very hard and uncomfortable. You hear everything - any door opening in the hall and your neighbors conversation. The only positive is the friendly staff and location. It’s not worth saving a few bucks to be very uncomfortable here. They should do a gut renovation and make the rooms like standard hotel rooms with a private bath in each with temperature control.
- 3/5
The bed was hard, walls were thin, could hear people coming and going all hours of the night. I would not recommend staying here by yourself.
- 4/5
Great price. Great location. That top bunk mattress had springs that I could feel. It worked, but it wasn’t very good.
- 5/5
Convenient location. Just needed a bed and bath for a couple nights, nothing fancy. This fit the bill just fine.
- 2/5
If you want hotel amenities, go somewhere else. If you want a decent mostly clean hostel, I guess this is an okay choice.
- 4/5
This place was a good value and was as advertised.
- 3/5
Rather disappointing how chopped up the hotel is. The lobby is now in basement and they offer no amenities. The mattress was literally a box spring and I could feel the springs which was very uncomfortable.
- 2/5
Staff was helpful and available, was cheap and convenient, in a good location, not clean with the rooms
- 3/5
For what it is, the Jane is fine. As advertised, the rooms are extremely small and the bunk bed is awkward for two. The mattress, particularly on the upper level, is just on slats and not very comfortable. However, the price is right and if you just want a place to sleep, it is fine.;
- 1/5
That pretty much says everything.
- 3/5
This is very affordable for this part of Manhattan. Just read the description carefully.
- 3/5
Staff was friendly, but the hotel was not up to par. Shared bathrooms should be more cleaner.
- 5/5
Great location. Very small rooms, but good for singles traveling solo.
- 4/5
It’s a lovely, clean hotel in the meat packing district. The rooms are extremely narrow, so fitting in large luggage can be a bit of an issue. The beds are comfortable and the communal bathrooms are immaculate.
- 5/5
the room was clean and perfect, front desk staff very nice and stored my backpack before check in.

I’ve stayed there before over the years. It’s an affordable, well-located place to stay in Chelsea, a few blocks from the Whitney Museum and the south end of the High Line. It is also close to Greenwich Village. Also, it has character. Ownership changed. The new owners have moved the reception area to the lower level. This makes it easier to enter - going down a few steps. The earlier entry was up quite a few steps. It’s well designed for shared use of bathroom facilities for rooms without an attached bathroom.

Cool place to stay. Lots of construction around the property.

The tiny room took some getting used to, as did the shared bathroom. But I rarely saw any other patrons and never had to wait.
- 5/5
Construction has changed the vibe, but the rooms and the staff were great!

The hotel is located in one of the nice and quiet neighborhoods in Manhattan. There are nice restaurants, bars, and cafes within walking distance. There is also the riverside once you cross the expressway. So it's perfect for walking and jogging. One negative thing, and the main reason why my rating is lower, is the inaccuracy of hotel information. I picked this place based on the nice authentic interiors at the lobby, very cool bars, rooftop, and the restaurant. But the hotel didn't have those. I learned from the staff, the owner of the hotel changed, and they separated those areas from the hotel and now run them as a club lounge. So I didn't go. It would've been helpful if the hotel website / Expedia's pictures were properly updated. Also, I thought it would be a great idea if the hotel prepares earplugs so people can sleep well since you easily hear people working in the hallway, watching TV, and the sounds of ACs.
- 4/5
Check in was super easy and the staff was friendly. The space was clean. The room was just smaller than the pictures lead us to believe. Which wasnt a problem it was just kinda funny.

If you're on your phone a lot, i don't recommend this place. Wifi isn't great. No internet connection in this hotel even without their wifi. Shated bathroom was a new experience. 2 showers and 2 toilets on the floor i stayed on. They could have a place for you to keep your shoes when showering. The shower was spacious. Water pressure good. It got hot but not scalding hot which would've been nice. Plenty of room in toilet area too. Also 2 sinks with mirror and 1 hand dryer. Location is a bit of a walk from subway station if taking C or E train there. Also you can catch bus to it, M14 and M20. I took the M20 straight down 8th Av to get to MSG. Then after leaving MSG i just walked back up 8th Av to the hotel. Park is nearby of Bleeker St and 8th Av. Plenty of restaurants and stores off 8th Av too. Check-in process was easy. You can do it ahead of your trip via link they send by text or email. Also check-out was easy too. Overall nice stay, just the wifi needs work.

The pictures are a lie! Since the hotel was sold all of the areas shown in the advertised pictures like the bell hop, front desk, basically the look of the Hotel Tower of Terror is gone. It is now a private club and inaccessible to guests. I was so disappointed. I brought my daughter here be cause I knew she would love it. What a mjor let down. I will NEVER stay here again . TAKE DOWN THE MISLEADING PHOTOS!!

BEDBUGS!!! Found them on my bed. And someone came into my room because they gave that person access by mistake
- 5/5
Great area close to the high line
- 5/5
There is a real charm to this place that should be preserved and celebrated! And the price can't be beat. Also hard to imagine a more chill location in Manhattan.
- 5/5
Very unique!! It was clean and staff were friendly.
- 4/5
Perfectly fulfilled what I needed during my visit to the city - a comfortable, quiet place to lay down for the night. The staff were clear about communicating a need for me to change rooms mid-stay due to renovations being done on my floor and it wasn't an issue. I did note an odd odor in some of the hallways, though.
- 5/5
I LOVED the Jane Hotel. Not fancy, carpets worn and all that. But clean, impecable service and so much character. And the price and location cannot be beat.
- 5/5
I believe this is my 4th or 5th time staying there and I like it as a solo traveler. Liking booking this hotel.

When I mentioned this to the front desk, they acknowledged it. They explained that some tenants live in the building and that “their smell is very, very strong.” Honestly, it’s shocking that they are renting out rooms as a hotel under these conditions. No guest should have to tolerate a hallway that smells like a public restroom. To make matters worse, the website is misleading. It advertises a charming hotel experience with a restaurant, lobby, and bar — but those no longer exist for guests. They’ve been turned into a private social club, completely inaccessible to hotel visitors. Overall, between the poor conditions, lack of transparency, and misrepresentation, I would strongly advise against staying here.
- 4/5
Love that you feel as if you have stopped back on time! So many unique features!
- 5/5
Great vibes all over the hotel! Encountered a few homeless (?) people inside the property… but other than that – a really nice place to stay in NYC.
- 3/5
Good location but the room was surprisingly small, almost a cupboard. Had to breathe in to turn around!!

Decent
- 5/5
Definitely on of the more unique pod style experiences in such a historic hotel. Rooms were small but comfy and I definitely appreciated having a tv and air conditioner. Great food, shops, barber, etc within walking distance and its right across the street from the Hudson for beautiful water views. Would definitely stay here again.
- 5/5
My only complaint is that each floor always has one shower door that won’t stay open after use. Those showers smell because they never air out. Mildew smell is awful compared to the shower where the door is always open. I made this suggestion before but I guess it fell on deaf ears. I’ve stayed on every floor…shows how often I return. ;)) Other than that….I will always return

Location is great

Bed was not comfortable

Horrible experience it is totally FALSE the pictures online , it is lime horror movie cabain other people were yelling screaming and fighting I was about to call 911 , the front desk person acted disrecpecful claiming they were kids having fun but the group was over 18. It was dirty it has flies and they do not care, plese Do not, I repeat do not stay there. False advertisement the pictures I had to sleep dress because it was bad.
- 4/5
I love this compact hotel with the price to match. I am very disappointed the restaurant & bar closure are permanent.
- 5/5
The Jane is one of my favorite hotels in the city. Perfect for just me for a few days, and I actually really enjoy the tiny little “cabins”! Super cozy and the service is very sweet, will always come back here!
- 4/5
I’ve gone to this place for a number of years but I noticed that some areas, like the bathrooms, were a little run down. They were doing renovations of some of the rooms when I was there so they appear to be working on it. I’ll still go back because it’s a in a great area and a great price plus, I love the history of the building.
- 1/5
The only good thing about this property is the good staffs they have ,the place was like a prison ,very cramped . No access to stairs in case of emergency. The property should be scraped and a new one built .
- 1/5
There were mosquitoes, flies and rats in the hotel room. There was my strappings behind the bed. Where you lay your head and although it is a nice styled hotel, there are people who live there permanently and do not have good hygienes. Therefore the hotel needs to do some cleaning up. I was moved from one room to another. Where both times there were mice droppings and mice sighting

I found myself with three large bed bug bites on my hands and arms. There’s a terrible smell in the hallways. The air conditioning is noisy and doesn’t work properly.
- 1/5
The condition of the room was terrible
- 1/5
There was loud and disruptive construction both inside and outside the building, including on our floor, something not disclosed at the time of booking. One of our rooms had no functioning electricity at all. We had to speak to multiple staff members before anyone addressed it, and even then, the issue was not resolved promptly. As a result of this failure, we were forced to separate from our minor niece, who had to be moved to another room alone- an incredibly stressful and inappropriate situation for a family traveling together. The hallways, especially near our door, smelled strongly of urine. It was unclear whether the smell was due to poor sanitation or an actual incident, but either way, it was revolting and deeply embarrassing. Several public restrooms were out of service, which compounded the discomfort of our group. Throughout our stay, we were made to feel like second- or third-class guests This experience was a far cry from what I once valued about The Jane. It is unacceptable for any guest, let alone one hosting visitors from abroad and relying on your hotel to provide a welcoming, professional environment. Given the severe and numerous issues we encountered, I am requesting a full refund for our stay.

This is my second time staying there. Very good option if others fall through.
- 4/5
The stay was good, excellent location and what you want when you are busy seeing the city. The staff were friendly
- 5/5
Very cozy for a short stay at an affordable price
- 3/5
The front door was under construction so you had to enter through staff hallways.
- 4/5
I like the front desk individual. I did not like the private club employees always coming through
- 4/5
At the time I stayed there, they were renovating so night time was no problem, but a nap during the day was only possible with ear plugs and white noise. The staff was polite and knowledgeable.
- 2/5
Stay somewhere else if u can afford it.

I wish to complain in the strongest terms about The Jane. The description is totally misleading and as a woman I feel very unsafe staying at the hotel. The place is under construction as they have taken away all the hotel amenities and are in the process of opening a member’s club in the building. There is a nightclub which now adjoins my floor which you can hearing raging away. There are random strangers walking up and down my floor, presumably staff from the club. It is noisy and filthy. The WiFi doesn’t work in my room. I have travelled all over the world back packing and this is the worst accommodation I’ve ever stayed in. It is absolutely revolting. There are tiles missing from the showers and dirt on the floor, the carpet looks about 40 years old and as I said, I feel my safety is very much compromised. As a woman travelling alone, I’ve never felt this before (and I’ve travelled by myself throughout Asia, India, South America and Africa). The final insult is the price.

First time being and it was really good. Very different but nice of the room/cabin at the same time. Would book here again for sure. Enjoyed it.
- 5/5
The Jane is always a good time.
- 3/5
Looked different than the pics. But was ok, i would stay again. 👍
- 1/5
I was asked to leave my room to relocate to replace carpets the second day of my three day stay. I have stayed here for 20 years and this will be my last.
- 3/5
The price should be much lower. Especially considering the constant booming / shaking / the whistles and the fog horns going off ALL day.
- 1/5
Only good thing I can say is great neighborhood.
- 4/5
For me, this was an inexpensive option to stay in manhattan. The building is an interesting piece of New York history (read the Wikipedia). If you know what to expect, a small room with a small bed, and a common bathroom. I suggest flip flops.

- 3/5
It's very spare and you should know what you're getting into before booking. Still, even knowing the type of property this is, the wifi wasn't working for me and no one seemed too keen to fix it.

Smelled like urine and smoke in the walls. Loud, attracts vagrants. No air conditioning

It is not clear that the bathroom was common. Terrible.

Beautiful hotel. Perfect for the solo traveler looking to explore the city with a quiet spot to get some rest before going out and doing it all again.
- 5/5
There was a private rooftop party. Would be nice if guests could enjoy that area when not booked.
- 2/5
All common spaces - bars, lobby, patios are now an exclusive members only club and hotel guests are not permitted here. The only room you have access to is the bedroom and the shared bathroom. The only reason I gave it 2 stars was because of the amazing location. walkable to everything in a very nice neighbourhood.
- 4/5
Was exactly what I expected from reviewing the website. It's super clean and in a great location. Would stay again.
- 5/5
Great for solo travelers, while rooms are small they're strategically outfitted with hooks, shelves, and under bed storage. Shared bathroom was clean and other guests kept to themselves in common areas. The Jane is a great deal and a safe place to stay if you plan to be out in the city all day!
- 1/5
The hotel is in need of and upgrade. Rooms terrible and there is only one lift which takes forever (no stairs for guest access). The hotel smells of food and the restaurant next door uses the guest area to prepare food and transport items, felt like I was back of house. The hotel entrance is in a basement with super unsafe steps.
- 4/5
This is the only hotel I can afford in Manhattan.
- 3/5
I used to stay at the Jane when it was affordable. Now I don't think it's worth the jacked up price. They used to offered disposable slippers and bottled water but those perks are gone.

Should have a different name, since it's no longer the fun place it used to be three years ago. Now it's just an overpriced glorified hostel.
- 1/5
We checked in and checked out 15 minutes later. There were pictures of lounge spaces that showcased a charming environment. Where as the rooms are isolated and small as is, the common spaces were where we had planned to post up with laptops, engage in conversations etc. when we arrived, we learned EVERYTHING was under construction. There was not a single place besides your tiney room to exist. We never would have booked here had we known. I had paid in advance through Expedia, so there was no way to get our money back. Booked 2 rooms and left 15 minutes later.
- 3/5
It was a shame that a lot of the common areas were permanently closed at The Jane. We were not aware of this when we booked and they were actually the main reason we chose to stay here. The promotional pictures on The Jane's website and social media still heavily feature these areas that dont exist. Staff were wonderful though and the shared washrooms were always clean.
- 3/5
The Jane is nice if careworn. It's under new management and the entrance, once unique, is at motel standard and in the basement. There's no longer rooftop access, lounge and cafe attached and though near dining, it's not the same. There is a feeling now that hotel guests are an afterthought; no slight to the doorman and front desk staff, but that vibe remains
- 5/5
Mostly, I loved the location and the staff were friendly, and I felt safe and clean, so I’d highly recommend it to anyone who wants to visit NYC. It’s only a few minutes walk to Starbucks Reserve Roastery, which is a must-see. And Little Island park, and the High Line. Just a great area.

Not great

Lovely management and clean facility. Unfortunately we could not complete our stay due to the construction! Hope to catch you once it’s completed.
- 5/5
I really loved the hotel, the rooms are a tad small but it was very comfy
- 4/5
Not the most comfortable bed I’ve ever slept in, but very affordable for a private room. Shared bathroom was clean and not very busy. Area feels safe and has plenty of bars and restaurants within walking distance. 14-ish minute walk from the nearest train station.
- 3/5
I have stayed at this hotel 2x because of its price and location, but the first time my sheets had not been replaced, I slept in them and left with a staph infection that lasted for 2 weeks. This past time I paid extra attention to cleanliness and washing my hands after touching things, the subway, etc. I left with the flu. I have been to NYC many many times and ridden the subway many many times, the only times I remember leaving the city sick had the common denominator of the Jane Hotel. Very disappointing because it has a very cool vibe, but they need to properly disinfect the rooms and clean the sheets with an anti-bacterial detergent. Disappointed.
- 1/5
The Jane was a unique experience. I never been to motel like that for lack of better words. But it served the purpose and if needed I would do it again.
- 1/5
The room had Jo bathroom and it was only one sofa with towels as cover sheets , Horrible customer service bad very bad
- 5/5
A nice little neighborhood and the subway is nearby.

Great accommodations
- 3/5
I decided to stay at the Jane hotel due to its history with the Titanic and early 20th century NYC. But when I arrived the historic lobby is not accessible (being turned into a private club) and the basement checkin desk is revamped modern but still under renovation. Room was as described slept well but honestly it just felt like a low end hotel without the history.
- 4/5
Undergoing construction currently, bathrooms were not kept very clean. Beds were small, could not fit and uncomfortable.
- 4/5
The Jane is under renovation so only single rooms are available. As a solo traveler, that was fine with me. The rooms are tiny, accommodating a twin bed & not much else. The bathroom is down the hall. Everything as clean & neat. It was quiet. You can’t adjust the temperature of your room. It’s winter & the heat is on. There is a fan but even with it in the room is too warm. The neighborhood seems. Overall, this is a good hotel.
- 5/5
I love the rooms cause I feel like I’m on a ship. Brian at the desk is too cool! 😎 nice guy and a great voice
- 1/5
We stayed one night at The Jane Hotel on a brief stopover in NYC. I had visited the amazing bar, cafe and lobby years before and was curious about the tiny rooms. I figured even if the room was tiny we could hang out at the cozy stylish bar and we would be in one of my favorite neighborhoods. Well…I should have checked the reviews because it was a totally disappointing experience. Bar, cafe, lobby all gone! Now the entrance is on garden level into a white sterile check in area with fluorescent lighting and a snarky desk person. Everything was under construction, elevator covered in moving paper and wall pads, very depressing! The rooms were even tinier than I imagined even after looking at photos online. There is no room to even open a suitcase and squeeze by it. The bunkbed frame was rickety with a bad ladder. I could have dealt with that but the most horrific thing were the mattresses! Super thin spring mattresses with literally zero padding on top!! Literally all I could feel was metal, and they are much narrower than a standard twin mattress! They seemed like mattresses from an orphanage or insane asylum back in the 1930’s! I really couldn’t believe it. I insisted at the front desk to find a room with better mattresses and the guy was kind enough and let me check several rooms until I finally found one with thin foam mattresses that didn’t have metal springs. To top off this horrid experience there are literally 50 rooms on each floor with only 2 co ed bathroom stalls!!!!

Very interesting hotel that will only become more interesting in the future.
