Reviews
The Washington Square Hotel is a historic, boutique hotel located in the heart of Greenwich Village, NYC. Guests appreciate its prime location, friendly and helpful staff, and clean rooms. However, some guests find the rooms to be small and outdated, with comfort issues such as hard mattresses and poor temperature control.

Very clean and accommodating. There wasn’t one thing that was wrong and the location was excellent!
- 5/5
Staff nice , rooms clean. Quite dated but we would stay again. . Very well positioned and coffee and tea and pastries included each morning (but the hot drinks were there all day)
- 5/5
But the "money shot" here is the hotel itself: the lobby is an incredible throwback to the 1910s, amazing tile work, the little cafe is a delightful amenity (free espresso!), and the staff were incredibly accommodating. I cannot imagine a better located New York City hotel, 50 yards away from the West 4th Street subway stop which takes you pretty much everywhere, and less than 50 yards from Washington Square Park, one of the greatest urban parks in America. Gives one exactly what one should want out of a New York Hotel room: great location, great common spaces, clean and comfy room for sleeping after a day of hitting it hard in one of the world's greatest cities. Would definitely stay here again!

Charming Deco-inspired hotel within a block from Washington Square Park. The staff was super friendly and helpful. The room was comfortable and nicely decorated. Appreciated the pastries and coffee in the morning.

We stay at this hotel every time we visit NYC. Right by a subway stop and the fun NYU area and just blocks from Greenwich Village and of course Washington Square Park. Very cute hotel.

We have stayed here a number of times over the years. The place doesn’t change much, but you give all that up for being smack bang in the middle of the Village.

Great staff great room ac wasn’t working so it was a little warm great amenities and tons of food choices

The location next to Washington Square Park in the heart of Greenwich Village was fabulous. So many great restaurants nearby and the park was a little haven in the city. The hotel was perfect for my daughter and I, we stayed for four nights. The room decor is a little dated but it was clean, we found it quirky and there were many plus points. The staff were friendly and helpful, the complementary coffee and pastries in the morning was very welcome, great shower, nice clean fluffy towels, I would definitely return to this hotel. N/A

Super close to NYU and all the things Greenwich Village has to offer. Staff was very helpful and everything was clean and comfortable. Room was small and a bit dated, but everything was clean and comfortable.

Excellent continental breakfast! Great location.
- 3/5
Great location but there was no acoustic separation between rooms and we could hear everyone above walking loudly and people in rooms beside talking. The bed was terrible and the worst pillows ever.
- 5/5
Enjoyed the hotel. Great location.

Great location - tiny room - front desk not helpful at all
- 2/5
Absurd price for facilities that are inferior to any "Motel 6" in the middle of nowhere. No refrigerator, no breakfast that includes at least bread and butter, nothing to buy after hours, no contact with the many food providers in NYC, not a decent chair in the room, not a glass of water, or even a glass, a dollar store soap re-used for 4 nights, and on and on...
- 5/5
Super nice, clean, and in a great spot in NYC. Highly recommend!
- 5/5
The pillows were amazing and the location couldn’t be more perfect. The staff was friendly and helpful. We loved our stay
- 5/5
Great location, just near Washington Square Park, great staff. Particularly recommend Juan. If I had to make one criticism, I guess the breakfast could’ve had a little bit more protein. It was basically very delicious baked goods, all of which kind of were quite sugary.
- 5/5
The location and amazing staff. The rooms are a bit dated but that's it.
- 3/5
Location in the village hotel is overpriced, very expensive. Property is old. I booked a deluxe room way in advance and was given a room next to the elevator, which was extremely noisy. Could change it only the next day, which was not ideal. No fridge in the room and small desk. Was expecting much better for the price I paid [500 USD per night]
- 5/5
Quaint hotel in a perfect location by Washington Park, Noho, Soho, etc. Smallish rooms but very comfortable bed, beautifully decorated and nice bathroom. Would definitely stay again.

Excellent location, very friendly staff and extremely clean property & rooms (especially for NYC). Good amenities for a 3 star hotel. Overall I had a great stay here for over a week and would definitely stay here again!

This hotel is in the best Manhattan neighborhood, Greenwich Village, on the corner of famous Washington Square. An easy walk to SOHO, the Hudson River Park, Highline, and more. There are multiple subway lines within 1-5 blocks to take you all over the city. There are restaurants, bars and cafes around every block. We lived nearby for 25 years and frequented the hotel restaurant, the North Square (currently under renovation). The hotel has a beautiful lobby, great staff and the rooms are immaculate with period touches. We loved it and look forward to staying again in the future.
- 5/5
The location of the hotel is tough to beat. Subway right around corner, also in the heart of the village. We stayed cause of proximity but were also surprised at how much we enjoyed the hotel itself. It’s older, but has a charm. Room size was nice, the AC worked great and shower was great. Staff were also super nice and helpful. Might be our new go to spot when we visit the city every year
- 5/5
This was the perfect location and price for exploring the city. Staff was very kind and helpful. Rooms = Perfectly Clean. If you need a place to stay in the West Village, look no further.

One of the firmest mattresses i have ever stayed on and the typical pillows with zero volume made sleeping a bit challenging for me.

The location was excellent, the staff friendly and efficient, and the room clean, comfortable and very quiet, just as I’d asked. British people need access to a kettle and tea! When you wake too early with jet lag, the last thing you want to do is get dressed and go down nine flights to get a cuppa.
- 5/5
Like most NYC hotels, the room was small, but very comfortable. In a charming old building, and the staff were outstanding. My only suggestion would to be for them to have a GF option in the coffee & pastries room. Even prepackaged would be something. Otherwise, it was delightful!
- 5/5
Staff pleasant and helpful. The facility is efficient and impeccably clean. Rooms are small but adequate and comfortable. Price is fair. The location is convenient to restaurants and shops and a lovely park. We have stayed here several times and will again.
- 5/5
Lovely - and great staff!..Steps to the great Washington Square Park. Restaurant is closed for renovations
- 4/5
The staff are all extremely friendly, the hotel is beautiful decorated, and you can’t beat the location. You are directly across from Washington square park and walking distance to so many restaurants, bars, and comedy shows. Hotel also offers an airport shuttle for a flat fee. Hotel rooms are basic but clean. Only down side was the shower. The pressure isn’t great (but maybe that was just our room). Otherwise, we were happy with our stay!
- 5/5
Great place, great location. Really...
- 1/5
Terrible experience, very questionable cleanliness of hotel primacies. Awful smell of sheets and towels. AC not working properly. Room condition very neglected. Never staying again in this hotel.

It’s a little old but getting remodeled. Cleaning staff a little too eager on the weekend mornings. I highly recommend this hotel!!!

Liked the lobby lounge. Great place to gather or take a break.

Great location. Clean, mostly quiet room. For NYC, it was exceptionally quiet at night in terms of street noise. During the day, however, there was disruptive construction noise as they’re renovating the hotel restaurant. I wish I had known. Staff were helpful, room was spacious for the city and clean. Breakfast was a little lacking, but ok.

I always love staying at this hotel! The location could not be more convenient to my favorite neighborhood in the city.

The location of the hotel was perfect for my daughter and I as we wanted to shop in Soho and hit restaurants in the West and Greenwich Village areas. The staff was very nice at the hotel. Our room was very clean. We shared a room with two twin beds pushed together. The room was nicer than it looked online and bigger than we expected. There is a 10% discount given at a local parking garage. My only complaint was that the price of this room was extremely high. There was a complimentary breakfast served but we could not partake since my daughter has severe allergies

Our stay at Washington Square Hotel was excellent. We had an interior room which was very quiet and clean. The AC worked great during our unexpectedly warm stay, and staff was friendly and responsive. There was a small continental breakfast in the lobby, which included espresso drinks - great when you have a packed itinerary. They also provided coffee and water throughout the day in the lobby. You can't beat the location, and we would/will definitely stay here again.

This hotel is very conveniently located near Washington Square Park and a block away from the subway and plenty of restaurants/convenience stores. The staff was very friendly and helpful.
- 4/5
Great location. Friendly staff. Restaurant/Lounge was under renovation so no comments. Small rooms, older hotel, closet sliding doors didn’t work making it difficult to get to your clothes. Don’t get any room with an 03 at the end, ie 603 or 703 etc. it’s literally on the elevator shaft and by the utility rooms and staff comes in and out very loudly starting early in the morning.
- 5/5
This is such a lovely little hotel! So very close to NYU so it’s the first choice if you’re visiting your student. The staff is incredibly friendly and the room is super comfortable.

The location is absolutely fantastic. So close to bars, restaurants, parks, and main subway lines. Friendly staff. Free coffee and pastries in the morning. Our room looked into the middle of the building so it was kind of dark (would be a positive for most because zero city noise though). This isn’t really a complaint I may just look at a different type of room next time.

We had a lovely stay at Washington Square Hotel. The property was clean and in a great location. Staff were super friendly. The room was on the small side but not surprising given the great price. I would definitely recommend this hotel for people trying to balance price and location in NYC.

Minimal power outlets in room which is to be expected due to being an older property. Consider bringing a plug with multiple ports if you have more than one or two devices to charge.

This hotel is very conveniently located and is classically New York. The rooms are very small. There is a small restaurant, but I only had coffee there. The location is terrific.

This hotel is extremely dated, and my room looked like a hostel. It was very depressing. Upon looking around, it was extremely dusty, and just looked dirty and bad. They put me in room 403, and it was directly next to the elevator. The elevator is loud, the walls are thin, and I didn’t get 1 minute of sleep. I went to NYC for an important meeting, and didn’t sleep 1 second, and just had a terrible day all around. Would never stay at this place under any circumstances. One positive, is that it’s imma good and walkable location.

Hotel management told me ahead of my stay that parking was available for $24 per 24 hour period. Although they had validated parking at a nearby lot, they did not honor the quoted price. Instead, it was $45. When I complained, they said that they did not control the lot's pricing. If that's the case, they should not have quoted me $24 per 24 hours.

Second time staying here and it was just as amazing as the first time.. The rooms are small, but so inviting. I love that you can pop the windows slightly open. The only thing I wish they provided was a small fridge in the room. Breakfast was super cute and the pastries were delicious. The girls making coffee were so nice and friendly! Water pressure was amazing and the bed was so comfortable. Everyone at the front desk were nice and helpful. Can’t wait to come back!

The staff was very nice & the hotel was quiet. However, my husband and I travel a lot and we have never stayed in a bed so hard it felt more like sleeping on wood floors. Zero cushion. We asked for a mattress pad which they could not offer but then asked for extra pillows and ended up sleeping on several pillows… it was better than the very hard bed! I just had back surgery in September and this was awful!

Great location -- good service, hotel could stand a bit of modernizing though. Coffee service in the morning was a nice amenity, room was reasonably large by New York standards, the bathroom was fully functional. But it's the location that is the key factor in choosing the hotel and would be in the future.

The staff was wonderful --- especially ?James? and Marta. The employees all seem to be happy there and they were all so kind and went out of their way to make our stay lovely. I will go out of my way to stay there again when I go to New York.

The room was clean and well maintained. Staff was so kind and helpful. Plus you can’t beat the beauty of the building. So unique!

good continental breakfast
- 5/5
Clean room friendly and professional staff good continental breakfast
- 5/5
Great hotel so conveniently located in the Village.
- 5/5
This is a great place. Excellent staff. The subway was a block away. The Village is full of great restaurants and shopping. Easy to get from airport to hotel. I will always stay here
- 5/5
Clean and pleasant
- 5/5
Washington Square Hotel is perfectly located. The staff are lovely. The rooms are a bit small but they are clean! Would stay here again.
- 5/5
Great location, great breakfast, friendly staff.
- 5/5
FYI - The property is starting rehab on the lounges (2026), and neither were open for drinks
- 5/5
hotel staff very helpful
- 5/5
The room was clean, spacious. Close to public transportation but also in walkable distance to lot of shops, restaurants. Quite area. Highly recommend
- 5/5
Lovely staff.
- 5/5
Clean room and nice breakfast
- 5/5
Smooth experience from arrival to departure at this quaint, historic hotel.
- 3/5
Great location. Fun historic building. Outdated bathrooms. Worst part was an uncomfortable bed with bad pillows. Also, hard to control the temperature in the room. Will only stay here if I needed to be in Greenwich Village, otherwise I will skip it next time. Also we paid a "low price" would be really unhappy if I paid a "normal" or high rate.
- 5/5
Great staff
- 5/5
It was excellent. Staff was wonderful and accommodations were very good.
- 5/5
Room was not so wide but enough for us (two persons). Interia was pretty, Only issue might be no refrigerator (no problem for winter stay, but might be an issue for summer stay). Complimentary breakfast is good as well. Location was excellent!! Washington square is very close. So many metro stations, dinning places, jazz clubs, etc, etc, but it is very quiet at night.
- 5/5
Clean room with state of the art bathroom. Very cute and comfy hotel. I will come back.

The staff was superb, but the windows seemed porous to cold air. Even with the heater on, the room never really warmed up.
- 5/5
Staff was excellent, especially housekeepers who were incredibly respectful and courteous. Location, of course, is unbeatable!
- 5/5
Excellent clean room. James at front-desk was exceptional during check-in. Breakfast was very good!
- 5/5
Great staff, great location. Rooms clwan

Room was simple but comfortable. Great location and VERY accommodating staff.
- 5/5
It was all good
- 5/5
Friendly staff
- 5/5
Great location, comfortable room, breakfast included.
- 5/5
Very nice hotel in excellent location. Staff is very attentive and friendly. Spotless rooms with daily housekeeping service. Best shower water pressure I’ve ever had in the city. Will definitely stay again.
- 5/5
- 5/5
Great hotel with friendly staff and in an awesome location!
- 4/5
Would have been excellent but the bed/mattress was really hard.
- 5/5
Wonderful, cozy stay. Conveniently located by the W. 4th subway station.
- 5/5
Heater on wall unit did nork
- 3/5
Room very small, too watm, few amenities, spotty housekeeping
- 5/5
Everything was great, very cool place to stay. Location was fantastic being across the street from WSP and NYU, and with the West Village being a block or two away. The area was very safe! The hotel architecture was super unique and our room was clean and secure. Staff was friendly and accommodating. Breakfast in the morning was also a great plus. Would definitely book again next time I’m in town!
- 4/5
We enjoyed our stay. The room (Queen Deluxe) was an adequate size and clean. The bathroom was equally good size and had the amenities we needed. One thing to note is that the room was not very sound proof and being by the elevator we heard a lot of conversations as people passed by the room. Overall the hotel is charming and located in a great part of Manhattan, right next to Washington Park and a couple blocks away from most subway lines.
- 5/5
Everything was good, except the bath tub needed to be cleaned.
- 5/5
Fantastic clean hotel. Staff is very friendly and easy to talk to
- 5/5
Love staying here when I visit the village. Right across from the park. Clean and safe. The continental breakfast is pretty good too!
- 4/5
Service was fantastic. Location was amazing. Rooms and bathroom were on the smaller side
- 4/5
I parked my car at a nearby parking garage.
- 5/5
Great shower pressure, daily housekeeping, near to shopping and restaurants. Staff was always friendly.
- 4/5
Great location. Lobby nice. Rooms and bathrooms showing their age. A bit worn out.
- 3/5
The bathroom really needs to be updated. There is
- 5/5
Great location next to the park
- 5/5
Such a cute little place! We got there at 8am but check-in wasn't until 3pm. They were able to hold our bags and let use the downstairs bathroom to freshen up and get ready. I would definitely come back!
- 5/5
Excellent. Staff is polite. Great location. Clean. Comfortable. Spent two previous nights in large name brand hotel in midtown. This was much better and 1/2 or 1/3 the cost.
- 5/5
Beautiful and clean hotel in a great location with rooms that are (surprisingly for NYC) spacious and comfy, and staff that's helpful and kind!
- 5/5
Very clean room. Super helpful staff.
- 5/5
December visit didn’t require A/C and used public transit which was close by. Front desk staff were friendly and helpful.
- 3/5
The room was a little claustrophobic and lacking in appealing decor. A large mirror to reflect light and the small window, some art on the large stark tv wall and replacing the menacing portrait of a man above the bed with something more appealing would improve the room a lot. But the vanity area, closet, and bathroom were nice. I’ve found this hotel to be overpriced compared to others in the area. Especially considering it doesn’t have a restaurant or bar other than the buffet breakfast area. There are other hotels at this price point with more amenities and larger rooms.
- 4/5
Convenient
- 5/5
Very courteous staff. Tasty complimentary breakfast.
- 5/5
I tell everyone about the hotel.
- 5/5
Staff, nice rooms, good location
- 5/5
This place was perfect for a solo trip, it’s smack-dab right in the middle of many places I needed to see. Subway right around corner. Nice continental breakfast, clean room, nice shower. Prime location
- 5/5
Thank you…
- 4/5
First of all, Great Location! So convenient to almost everything we were wanting to do. Subway stop just around the corner and a beautiful walk through Washington Square Park just steps away. Perfectly clean rooms and super friendly/helpful staff
- 5/5
My wife caught the flu before arriving, so she spent her stay in bed. The room was very comfortable, and the HVAC was terrific. Our only wish was that the bedsheets were fitted.
- 4/5
Concerns; This hotel is not accessible; from entry to the corridors to the rooms and bathrooms. I f you are physically challenged like me you would not have a comfortable stay here. Hotel staff did their best to accommodate me by providing shower seat, but their kindness and assistance can not replace the lack of hotel Owners/Managers obligation to provide accessible accommodation for all
- 5/5
Staff was impeccable
- 3/5
There’s no longer a full service restaurant, where we had enjoyed nice service on previous stays. It’s now a “cold “ self service buffet of bagels and yogurt in a small, crowded space. The room was clean and well stocked with towels, but no in room coffee or water, etc A friend mentioned the hotel is under new ownership- maybe that’s the explanation. A good location near the park but we may look for another “favorite spot”
- 5/5
Front desk team members were exceptionally professional and cordial. Continental breakfast was a very nice experience.
- 5/5
Excellent services in a beautiful hotel in a great location. Staff were always welcoming and helpful. Ive found my new hotel in NYC.
- 5/5
Very convenient, person attention, and nice continental breakfast
- 5/5
Room was spotless upon arrival AND was maintained that way throughout our stay. All staff were welcoming and helpful...including breakfast room staff. Food on buffet was fresh and tables were always clean.
- 4/5
Staff pleasant; facility clean; room bedding amenities good quality; room worn…
- 5/5
Nice classical hotel!
- 4/5
I travel to NYC a few times per year to see jazz shows at the Bluenote & the Village Vanguard. I primarily stay at the Washington Square Hotel due to it's great location. It is within a few blocks of the clubs. The neighborhood is fantastic with plenty of terrific restaurants, etc., nearby. As for the hotel, the price is fair & the staff very nice. It is a solid mid-tier hotel. It is by no means luxury, nor is it a dump. It is a clean, well located, reliable, decent place to stay. Pros: Great location, friendly staff, excellent water pressure, breakfast included (haven't tried it), good wi-fi. Cons: Very small rooms, very firm beds, small flat-screen TV wedged up in the corner of the ceiling (plenty of channels though) no mini-fridge, a little noisy, It's hard to beat if you need to be in the area and don't want to spend a fortune. All in all an excellent situation for basic accommodations. Note: When I was there last, I mentioned the rock hard mattress & no mini-fridge & they said next time to ask for a softer bed and a room with a mini-fridge (they obviously must exist) btw, Must go: Waverly Diner & Joe's Pizza a couple of blocks away. .
- 4/5
The staff at this Hotel were wonderful. Very pleasant and really helpful. The room was really nice, and very clean for the most part. There were some staines on the tub and when I opened the bathroom window (theres no ventilation) I noticed the sill could use someThe price was great for right now in New York at this location especially.

Clean room, friendly and attentive staff and a perfect location.
- 5/5
Great location and great staff
- 4/5
You can't beat the hotel location steps away from Washington Square in the West Village and near subway connections.
- 5/5
The room was very clean. We enjoyed the included breakfast. Excellent location and affordable price.

- 4/5
The room was very clean and comfortable. What wasn't great was the room was at the first floor level, and it was very noisy - garbage trucks; people yelling. It wasn't very restful. The staff were more than accommodating. I did not receive my folio after my stay.
- 5/5
Great location, good clean room
- 5/5
It’s a very attractive old hotel. Everything worked well.
- 5/5
The staff was friendly and the rooms were clean. Great location.
- 4/5
Our stay in Washington Square hotel has been very pleasant, from check in to check out the service has been amazing. Location is also one of the best for hotels, being very walkable to many desirable areas in NYC. Rooms are clean but slightly outdated. Breakfast is included but variety can be better. Overall impressive hotel and would definitely stay here again
- 5/5
Location was perfect! Breakfast was good. Hard boiled egg, bagel, yougurt morning pastries. Coffee, juice. Room was clean and sufficient. All soap products supplied. Friendly staff. We would stay again.
- 5/5
This historic hotel is a little gem in the heart of Greenwich Village. Close to Washington Square Park and NYU, it is within walking distance of several restaurants and convenience stores. The hotel itself provides many amenities, like bathrobe, slippers, and umbrella. It also has windows that open for a little fresh air. I would definitely stay there again.
- 5/5
Staff was great. Very clean and great location.
- 4/5
super friendly staff, clean room
- 3/5
Hotel fine for brief stay, albeit older. But charm intact and fabulous location. Seemed clean, but when seated in bathroom could plainly see mold issues around tub grout, especially on underside of grab bar.
- 5/5
This is a gem of a hotel in a gem of a neighborhood. Nothing too fancy but clean and the staff are wonderful. Our go-to when we're in NYC. The Greenwich Village location is away from the tourist areas, quiet, with easy access to the subway, restaurants, and right on the best people-watching park in the city, Washington Square.
- 5/5
I loved reading about the musical history in this hotel, the former Hotel Earle, and even though Joan Baez and Bob Dylan stayed here and Baez later referred to it as “that crummy hotel over Washington Square” (haha) that was not our experience - it was perfectly suitable, clean, pretty quiet, pleasant staff and in a great location. We didn’t know from the listings here that the bar/restaurant was closed for renovations, but there are SO many amazing places in the vicinity that it wasn’t any problem.
- 5/5
The room was clean and the staff was welcoming and knowledge. They had great recommendations and lots of tips to help navigate the subway system. Definitely staying here again.
- 3/5
Room was minimal but had the basics. Lobby was cute.
- 5/5
Yes
- 4/5
For a stay in Greenwich Village, the hotel's location is ideal. Steps away from Washington Square, proximate to subways, shopping, NYU, walking to Union Square, jazz clubs and restaurants galore. Room was very clean if dated. Front desk staff helpful, and the free breakfast most welcome. With the taxes the rooms are not cheap, but its NYC.
- 3/5
Good stay
- 5/5
Cons: room was very small (it's New York so to be expected); you have to request a mini-fridge in advance.
- 5/5
Perfect base location!
- 5/5
I loved our stay here. The property is funky and charming yet modern. The beds were super comfy, the bathrooms beautiful. Also the staff were extremely helpful, friendly, accommodating and had great personalities. Steps away from transportation options, dining and shopping. Great walkable location.
- 5/5
This hotel is a great deal for such a central location. Stayed on a girls trip so the single beds were really nice. Shower was amazing and continental breakfast exceeded expectations.
- 5/5
Great Location! The building is very nice but the decoration a little too eclectic and outdated. Bedroom spacious and very clean, comfortable beds.
- 3/5
The room I got was very Small as well as the bath room. It is an old building. The stair case carpet was not tidy. Free BFis meager It is just across the nice Washington Park , on a quiet street.
- 4/5
Loved the location, and the facilities were clean —bed was very hard, but the staff helped resolve the situation so I could sleep more comfortably.
- 4/5
Great location, rooms are decent enough, great staff - friendly and helpful. Only constructive feedback - limited breakfast on offer
- 4/5
Staff and housekeeping were very accommodating.Bed was very comfortable and nice towels.Location was good. It was quiet and clean. Would stay there again.
- 3/5
Pillows were very flat. Bed very hard. Grout in shower/bath area was black should have been white like in the dry area. Needs a good clean. Area behind reception where coffee was available should have had hot water available to make tea.
- 5/5
Great place
- 4/5
Cool property though; old timey and in the best part of the city. And very reasonably priced in a market of bonkers hotel rates.
- 5/5
Loved it
- 5/5
Really helpful front desk staff
- 5/5
All good! Very quiet- near subway. Great grocery with take out food right down the block. Staff were all lovely. Continental breakfast was modest but it worked!
- 3/5
Supportive staff
- 4/5
For an older hotel the rooms are quiet and hotel feels safe. Staff is friendly and helpful with directions and making the lobby feel safe and secure. Great shopping and restaurants near by Rosemary for dinner and Buvette in th West Village for breakfast. Easy subway ride to broadway to see shows. Enjoyed my stay
- 5/5
Great location. Lots of restaurant options close by. Just a block away from a subway station.
- 4/5
Perfect location! Just across from Washington Square park & less than a 5 minute walk to numerous food options. Room was small but not crowded at all. Bathroom felt spacious but efficient at the same time. Would absolutely recommend this hotel & return for another stay.
- 5/5
It was a very nice experience and Inolsn to return.
- 3/5
The location is amazing but the dated hotel was grungy and just not for us. No mini fridge, caked on scum all around the windows, dated fixtures, beds didn't stay put and kept moving around.
- 4/5
Great location, staff very helpful.
- 3/5
Loved the location but room was very no frills + hallways are in need of renovation. The room I was on had no way to adjust the temperature for AC, just a heat option & the bedding had a few spots on it. No fridge, no coffee in room but there was breakfast on site that we did not take advantage of.
- 5/5
Great place to stay, only the breakfast was lacking as they redo the kitchen
- 5/5
Great location and friendly staff. The rooms were clean and more spacious than we were expecting.
- 5/5
Fantastic location in lively Greenwich Village and nearby West Village. Plus easy subway access to everywhere else. And a beautifully renovated small hotel with an interesting history. I requested and was allocated the room where Bob Dylan and Joan Baez lived in 1964. The desk staff told me that the room was bigger in Dylan’s time (included 304 next door - now separate rooms).
- 4/5
Rooms a bit dated and small, staff is good, bathroom was good and best area in the city
- 5/5
Great location to visit New York University, Greenwich Village and surrounding areas.
- 4/5
Very nice for a short visit. Older hotel with older facilities.
- 5/5
I was super disappointed when all 6 of the k cups for my in room coffee were decaffeinated. It sounds weird, but i rely on it. I saw 6 cups. But at 3am when i needed them, they were all decaf. Do better.
- 5/5
Lovely staff.
- 5/5
It is in ideal location . Safe neighborhood .The rooms are perfect for a couple . Walkable to Greenwich village ,Soho. West Village . Lots of restaurants nearby. Just across from the park.
- 3/5
Great
- 5/5
Room was dated.
- 5/5
Loved our stay here!! Great location. There’s a very nice grocery store right next door with access to the subway. Super convenient.
- 5/5
Great location. Staff was always friendly and willing to offer assistance in directions or suggestions.
- 5/5
A fantastic stay!! Very friendly and helpful staff and the rooms were clean and comfortable. Amazing location.
- 5/5
In a safe quiet area. Walkable to many things.
- 5/5
Very nice stay!
- 4/5
very convenient walkable to NYU.
- 5/5
Great location and staff. Hotel is a little dated but very clean.
- 5/5
An adorable boutique property with older charms that comes with better amentities than the more modern (read: sparse!) counterparts around the cities. I love the classic features at the WSH that I've missed at newer properties: iron & ironing board, full-length mirrors, in-room coffee maker, bathroom doors that shut vs. slide. Will definitely stay again
- 4/5
Secondly, the restaurant was not open and had no activity at all. It would have been nice to have it as an option. Again, had to leave the hotel.
- 5/5
The location is great. The staff could not have been nicer. Everyone was friendly and helpful. The building is older but has charm. The only reason I didn’t give all 5 stars was the breakfast. It was ok, but the coffee was not so good and there was not a hot option of food.
- 3/5
While we understand the need to renovate the restaurant and lounge, we made our reservation far in advance based on the amenities shown on the website. We believe the hotel should have contacted us at some point well before our arrival to notify us of this inconvenience and outline options (such as providing a fridge in room). They did not. Additionally, upon our arrival, staff did not assist us with our luggage (or even open the front doors). We had quite a substantial load to carry up the steps after a long day of travel. The hotel offered no discount for NYU families moving in. The view from our room was a concrete wall. That said, the location is ideal, with many great restaurants and shops nearby as well as the beautiful Washington Square Park.
- 5/5
Fantastic renovated boutique hotel at Washington Square Park. Great walking in the Village and SoHo. East in, easy out. Warm friendly staff as well.
- 5/5
Room was small but perfect for our needs. Shower was spa-level awesome. Staff was great. No fridge in our room if that’s important to you. Loved that the windows opened to feel connected to Washington Square vibe.
- 5/5
Absolutely LOVED staying here!
- 5/5
Delightful stay
- 5/5
Highly recommend this hotel. In a great area with close to many fun comedy clubs and great food. Easy to get to transportation. Safe area
- 5/5
The hotel is just by washing square park and nearby NYU community. Convenient, safety and close to everything are the major reasons to recommend it. The room is clean, not big but neat. The staffs are friendly and welcoming to each person walking by.
- 5/5
Exceptionally well-run and very accommodating, I actually called to say I was heading into town a day early and they had a room ready by the time I got there. Also! Huge bathrooms! Nice products too
- 5/5
This hotel is so well placed. Simple abut comfortable and the air conditioning was welcome after scorching hot days of exploring the area.
- 5/5
Very cool property, with super helpful staff. The rooms are comically small, but clean. No refrigerator, no microwave, limited storage. If you go knowing that this is an old hotel, you'll realize the location is absolutely perfect for all things Greenwich Village and NYU. I would definitely return here.
- 5/5
Very friendly staff who are knowledgeable of area and transportation options . We were given helpful advice on traveling uptown.
- 3/5
We stayed here so that my son could get a sense of the NYU area. For that, the hotel can’t be beat! The hotel itself is pretty average- old decor, no water in the lobby for water bottle refills, the in-room air conditioning was either full blast cold or left everything feeling damp, and the continental breakfast was awful. The staff was nice’ish. Nothing terrible but nothing memorable.
- 5/5
The hotel itself is well maintained and the rooms are ideally suited for solo travellers and couples. I can imagine American travellers used to big spacious hotel rooms may be surprised by the compact size of the rooms, but if you’re in New York you should only be in the hotel to sleep. If you want to relax then sit in the Washington Square Park which is literally 30 seconds away from the hotel entrance and absorb the vibrant atmosphere and people watch the locals jogging or enjoying their deli sandwiches and coffee. A big shoutout to all the staff from housekeeping to the security staff and hotel reception who were all friendly and helpful. New Yorkers can be brisk and impatient but it’s great to be greeted by a friendly smile and hello from the staff. I will definitely choose this hotel again for my next trip to NYC.
- 5/5
Good
- 4/5
The front desk staff and security were wonderful. I wish I had known ahead of time that the restaurant was closed so I could have planned ahead. Otherwise, great stay and would definitely stay there again.
- 5/5
Friendly staff, great location. We were disappointed that the bar/ restaurant was closed for renovations. We will likely return when our travels bring us back to NYC
- 5/5
The one disappointment is there was not a bar in the hotel. It would’ve been nice to come back and have a nightcap right at our hotel.
- 5/5
Excellent classic hotel right at Washington Square. Very good service, very nice people work there.
- 3/5
Staff was nice and helpful and the stay was comfortable in a great area. However, the room was very much in need of a renovation, to the point of feeling a bit dirty.
- 5/5
Very nice staff that are very helpful and care. The room is very cute and cozy. Very close to the subway which is very convenient. Highly recommend them!
- 5/5
WSH went about and beyond on every aspect of our stay. From the amazing staff that was helpful and friendly at all times, to the food options in the restaurant and the cleanliness of our room. It's also very conveniently located. I look forward to going back soon!
- 4/5
Nice hotel, great staff, cool area of town. Certain elements are a bit dated (especially in the bathroom), but the bed was comfortable and we had a nice stay! Didn’t try the complimentary breakfast and the restaurant was undergoing renovations.
- 5/5
Always the homey place to stay in the West Village.
- 5/5
This was one of the few options in Manhattan that met both our standards and budget. We were impressed with the impeccable style of the halls, the cleanliness of the room and the service. The only reason I didn't give it a 5 stars, is because the drains in the bathroom were a little clogged, so the tub filled out even when taking a shower with the drain open. Not a big deal, just maintenance stuff.
- 4/5
Unfortunately kitchen closed for renovation. Did offer continental breakfast though free for guests which was unexpected.
- 5/5
- 4/5
Good value for money in West Village. Kitty corner from Washington Square Park yet quiet and charming spot. Walk everywhere. Easy access to subway, dining options of all kinds. Funky old lobby and somewhat dated room. I would stay again.
- 5/5
Favorite neighborhood in Manhattan, so I’m biased. This corner of WSP has some challenges currently, but we felt comfortable and embraced the incredible vibes, restaurants, and general culture. Beds are super comfortable, and the building is full of charm. Friendly, welcoming staff. Will absolutely return! Endless nearby options for food, drink, and entertainment.
- 5/5
Exceptional staff - from the front desk to the restaurant and cleaners. Wonderful spirit at this cozy hotel. Fantastic location. I felt very safe and enjoyed the morning breakfast in the company of international travelers.
- 3/5
The first night the cold water in the shower did not work. I had to take scorching showers and ther
- 5/5
Trip was great - nice location to where we wanted to visit.
- 4/5
Great stay!
- 5/5
Historic and charming hotel, walk to Village Vanguard for jazz, and many great dining options. Close to subway.
- 5/5
Fantastic location and super friendly staff!
- 4/5
Comfortable and near NYU
- 3/5
The lobby 7 staff are lovely but for the price, the rooms and bathrooms are like 80s dorm rooms, outdated and very tiny.
- 5/5
Great walkability with cafes and restaurants
- 5/5
Everyone that works there is so kind and helpful. I always stay here when I’m in nyc. Lovely staff, beautiful hotel :)
- 4/5
Staff were great; friendly and attentive. Was a nice welcome in and easy check-in. Hotel is a great location near the park and lots to do that is walkable. The room was pretty basic but clean, the bathroom was good and we enjoyed our stay. Some critical feedback would include. . . No fridge in the room, tv was a bit small, bed a bit small and hard for me, hallways are narrow and hallway walls have rough surface that can grab clothes a bit. We would come back. I heard it just sold to new owners so I imagine it may get some changes. Will be interested to see what those changes are.
- 5/5
Small but lively room. Helpful staff. Great location.
- 5/5
The staff was friendly and the location is perfect. I recommend this hotel as a base for exploring the city. I’ll definitely return.
- 3/5
The location was central to our area of interest and close to times square. What made it an unpleasant stay was the staff. The two desk clerks were so unhelpful it made it difficult to locate any sort of parking, or to unload our bags. The young lady with the short dark hair didnt have two words to say to us, we asked where to park as it was advertised as off site, i had to pull details out of her and find it on my own. The rooms had their own air conditioning which was nice but the bathrooms had no ventilation. The queen beds that were advertised were also absolutely not queens. They were fulls at best, my friend and i are both small females and we had gosleeo very close in that supposed queen bed. There were no parking areas in front of the hotel to unload luggage and no street parking.
- 5/5
Great stay - terrific location near the park!
- 5/5
Great
- 5/5
Historical renovated building with modern comforts
- 5/5
Quite nice
- 5/5
Great basic hotel with so much charm. Bathroom was excellent, newly updated and very clean, room was very clean and two twin beds were very comfortable. Room was small but very clean and adequate. It did have a coffee maker. Location could not be beat, staff was very responsive and nice. Overall, great stay.
- 4/5
Very friendly staff, comfortable room if a bit small, but it’s New York so I wasn’t surprised. Some of the flooring was shifting around but otherwise a nice enough room. Unfortunately our flight was delayed 1 day so we did not stay at the hotel the first night of the trip and they did not offer any sort of reimbursement. Oh well.
- 5/5
This was our first time at this hotel. The staff were lovely, very friendly and helpful. The location was superb. It is close to Washington square park and NYU( where we were visiting). We easily walked to restaurants and shops. The room was small but clean & cool. Water pressure in the shower was surprisingly good. I didn’t use the gym or eat at the hotel so I have no info on that.
- 5/5

Terrific location, professional and friendly staff. My room had almost no natural light, but it was the perfect home base. Fitness room was on the small side, but the treadmill was nice. I would stay here again.

Lovely hotel 🏨 n a vibrant area close to transportation throughout the city.

Excellent location close to subway and excellent corner shop for food, which meant that we did not have to dine out for dinner. Easy access to Greenwich Village, Washington Square, uptown, the financial district, Brooklyn and more.

The staff is wonderful! The location is perfect for walking, parks, food, etc. Unfortunately we had a room with zero view, but understandable in the city. Would have been a 10+ with a view!

It was a nice surprise to find this hotel. Excellent location, just a block away from a subway station. The staff is so nice and helpful. There is this little cozy restaurant with very good food. The room was small but the bathroom was impeccable. Everyday the room was cleaned and the towels were changed. The air conditioning worked great. The pillows were nice and fluffy. The mattress a little bit on the firmer side. Great hotel option if you're going to be walking around New York all day and only want to come back to sleep, take a nice bath and repeat.

Excellent location, well renovated and great staff!

Despite reserving two months in advance, I was given a closet of a room adjacent to the elevator (shared walls), a very tired room in need up significant updating, painting especially. Front desk staff barely looked up from their smart phones to speak. Amenities were also laughably old school from the old coffee system in room to towels and bath products. This hotel is tired and the staff is disengaged, but it is a great location.
