I had a great time at The Allen Hotel. I got the room with the second floor balcony, and I absolutely loved it. Honestly it was my favorite part of my first time to NYC. I felt close to the magic of the ever moving city but still comfortable and closed off enough that I did not feel overwhelmed. The really neat setup of the shared balcony was special, as the letters of The Allen Hotel were right there for me to see, and the balcony itself is so spacious. I don't know how I lucked out to get this room, but I was very pleased to wake up every morning and relax each night I was there. Staff was nice. Shower was warm. Felt safe when I locked up and closed the blinds. Even though its loud on the streets, it gets significantly quieter when you close the balcony door and use earplugs at night which helped me sleep like a baby.

If it’s Times Square or UWS, look elsewhere. But if it’s in the heart of relevance and where those who live in the city go, this is the place. We love the Allen Hotel. The staff is the best, the neighborhood is happening, We will be back

This was a hotel that was very convenient for us. In a perfect location. The rooms are super small. The double beds were smaller than full beds. Initially I was disappointed, however by the time we left we were very happy. But if you have adults sharing a bed. It is very small. The hotel was very clean and staff was great.

Highly recommend the hotel. It’s comfortable, safe, clean, staff is gentle and has an excellent location if you want to stay in a local and vibrant neighborhood, it has plenty of good restaurants, parks, and transportation nearby making it so easy to move around manhattan and visiting Willsburg and Brooklyn. We had a room with balcony which is rare for New York, this was a plus! As it’s next to an avenue we could hear a bit the noise but overall would say is correctly isolated. The air conditioning works well, the bedroom is well equipped and the bathroom accessories are good too.

The bed was comfortable and the location was cool. Because there was a lot in the area such as bars, different options of food places to pick from. It was not that great of a hotel for $350 a night. The room was right next to a close business. Once i pulled back the sheets that was covering the window there was a close down food place. That was a turn off.

The Allen Hotel is in a fantastic location, very easy for exploring the Lower East Side and Brooklyn. The front desk staff are very helpful and friendly. There is a little bit of noise from the street as Allen Street is a main road, but I slept well. There are plenty of places nearby for breakfast and it was great to have a wide range of options. Orchard Street nearby has lots of restaurants. Overall I was very happy with my stay and also felt safe there.

I booked the Allen Hotel for the first time online through Expedia. Let me tell you, the pictures are deceiving and need to be updated as well as the hotel itself. I got a room with a king size bed. They gave me a room on the first floor which had some kind of run down restaurant or bar attached to it that had a door that led to my room. Both doors to the room and that run down bar/ restaurant didn't lock at all. I asked to switch rooms because I didn't feel safe. They said I would be charged an extra 25 dollars a night to switch rooms, which they called upgraded. I got to the room and it was a room with two double sized beds and a much smaller room then the one prior. So I was being charged for a down grade in actuality. There was a good sized booger on the wall. The wall paper was old and peeling off the walls. There was a blood stain on the blanket and the sheets had a hole in it. The blankets smelt and felt dirty as well. While I was there they were also working on the elevator which was a bunch of loud banging. I had to use the staircase to go up and down to the fourth floor with my things. I dont recommend this hotel and I wouldn't book it again ever.

The room was clean but there were holes in the sheets. There were places in the bathroom, the soap holding area and underside of the toilet seat. A person who claimed to work for the hotel entered our room with a key card unannounced, which is why the rating is low. I loved the balcony. The location is very convenient for getting around the city and to Brooklyn. It is closer to the Williamsburg Bridge than the Manhattan or Brooklyn bur you can walk to either. B to Grand, F to Delancey are the closest stations. The J is close by as well. Congee Village, the best authentic Chinese Restaurant in the city is on the same block.

We were greeted warmly at check-in. Our room was bright and immaculate. The wood floors were beautiful and we loved all the light let in by the floor to ceiling windows. We easily set our thermostat to both heat and cool as needed. The bathroom was small but beautifully appointed with enough storage for both of us. The closet was a little small but there was plenty of other storage. All the staff were friendly, the elevator worked very well and there was beautiful Chinese art on display. We put some items in the fridge and noticed the items on the top shelf froze. Didn’t see a way to adjust. There could have been better instructions for the TV. The list of channels provided didn’t seem to match the options I found in the guide on the TV. Finding the guide was helpful once I discovered it.

We picked The Allen Hotel because of the convenient location. Although we like the local neighborhood, I believe I'd opt for accommodations nearer to subway stations next time. Housekeeping is disgusting unacceptable! There appeared to be blood stains on the sheets. Upon complaint, staff claimed housekeeping had gone for the day & suggested covering the stained sheets with replacements provided by the lobby. The comforter was ripped and tattered. Furniture was falling apart. Had to go to the lobby daily to request washcloths/ hand towels. Bed firmness was comparable to sleeping on the floor. Could hear hallway movement & conversations as if the door was wide open. Bathroom was dingy and outdated.

I enjoyed my stay at the Allen Hotel. It is a great location. It's in Chinatown near restaurants and the subway. The hotel facilities are nice and kind of grand (although a bit dated) The staff were nice. The room was clean. My mid-week rate was fairly low for NYC, so it felt like a great deal. No complaints, I would happily stay here again. The lighting is harsh in the room, and one of the lights over the bed would randomly turn on and off. It felt like the light in Parasite (iykyk). The road is also quite loud, but it's NYC, so it's to be expected. Bring earplugs if you are a light sleeper.

The room is not maintained at all. There was mold in the bathroom and shower and you could smell it. I think there is a lack of ventilation which is also causing ALL of the wallpaper to peel. Speaking of walls, they were very thin and not sound proof. Also, the towels had stains on them, were dry, and falling apart. The double beds were very stiff and very small- can’t fit two thin people. We tried to call the front desk for ice and our phone didn’t work- couldn’t even call 911! We went to get ice and the front desk person had to go into a separate room. We got a good deal on this hotel, but got what we paid for.

The place is okay but they use heat pumps as opposed to central heating and they don’t work. It was between 30 and 40 degrees and the room would heat to 62 degrees and keep cycling off. The staff gave us space heaters after contacting them but it was still very cold in the room with the single plane glass.

The hotel needs some updates. Instead of buying new sheets there are hand stitching to repair them. The bathroom wasn’t super clean. The room was mostly clean, but there was some black mold in the shower and some on the ceiling where the wall meets the ceiling. I asked the front desk if someone could address the mold in the shower, and they said ok, but when I returned at night, it didn't seem to have been addressed (but my AC had been turned way down, so the room was cold). The gym had pretty good equipment, though it was pretty warm in the room. The other thing to note is that the only coffee provided is a kettle with instant coffee packets. A nearby coffee shop opens at 7am.

Our room had a balcony that was next to another balcony with only a planter separating. The neighbors were shouting and fighting with each other, the woman guest was screaming at the top of her lungs “get away from me”. Then there was more screaming and glass breaking, doors slamming. It was extremely scary. This went on from 3am- 5:30am. I wanted to call the police, but couldn’t remember our room number and was too scared to go into the hallway. I called the front desk repeatedly to have them call the police. They never answered. Needless to say, it was a scary terrible experience

This is not the first time I've stayed in this hotel. As a matter of fact it was my hotel of choice in the last few visits to NYC. However I was disappointed this time. I reserved a delux room with one king bed and received a very small room with two queen bed with hardly any room to maneuver... on one day housekeeping only arrived after 5pm, on another day it seemed that they way in a hurry as the bed was sloppily made up... I would still give them a chance hoping it was a one time incident

I stayed here a few years ago during covid at the same room I got during this stay and it was amazing. Now I don't know if I've gotten bougie over the years but this time around the hotel felt a little worse for wear and out dated, hair on the floor in the bathroom, a weird smell when you walk in like half clean/half damp and despair, black mold in certain corners, balcony looked like it hadn't been swept or looked at in multiple stays and everything had a coat of dinginess to it if that makes any sense it just didn't feel truly clean like my previous stay. Besides that the room did the job and the surrounding area was enjoyable! fast check in and courteous staff, empanda mamas right across the st, multiple clothing stores and for the area and the balcony included the price was modest! thank you Allen hotel but my only critique is to please talk with your cleaning team about taking more pride in ensuring rooms are thoroughly cleaned and sanitized! The things I encountered and noted were disappointing to say the least and I was only staying for a night but if it was for multiple I would have definitely been back at the front desk asking for an upgrade or a partial refund due to the conditions, also just sucks because I was bragging about how clean it was the last time I stayed to my lady before we got there.

However my most recent stay was marred by two really awful guests on my floor with a dog that barked all night and very loud music played from 8am. I was surprised that dogs are welcomed in hotel rooms but apparently they are. Despite ringing the front desk three times during the night and again in the morning and bringing it up during check out, the hotel only apologised and didn’t bother to extend any goodwill gesture. That was particularly disappointing. So while The Allen has been a great place to stay over the last 5 years, I won’t be staying again.

We have staid at this property before. This time things went very wrong. We awoke to find that we had no hot water in the shower. They could not fix it and pushed us out at 11AM. Never offered access to another shower. Just apologized and sad the manager would be in touch about a refund. Of course they didn't and I had to call them. Then they only refunded $50. This room was over $300 - which is a lot for a place to not help us get to a hot shower and call us to kick us out at 11AM. I will not return. I'm sure a better managed property could have given us access to another room and I think their refund amount is insulting.

Regarding daily room cleaning, the bathroom was cleaned daily and the towels were replaced, but our beds were never remade. We booked a Deluxe Room with 2 double beds, because we were going to be 3 people in the room. Be warned, they are not double beds - they are slightly larger than twin beds, and are too small for 2 people. Regarding sustainability - we were not provided the option to reuse our towels, and there was no recycling bin in the room. We wanted to watch Netflix on the tv. We called the front desk and she said "I don't know, because I don't watch tv". We never found Netflix.

I stayed at The Allen Hotel with my friend from February 23rd to 25th. Upon check-in on the 23rd, I was required to pay a $120 USD cash deposit, with the promise that it would be returned to me at checkout on the 25th. However, they did not provide me with any receipt or proof of payment. As a result, I completely forgot to ask for my deposit back before flying back to Canada. When I realized this, I immediately emailed The Allen Hotel. It seemed like the general manager was handling the issue, but his response was slow and dismissive—only replying once a day and repeatedly refusing to process the refund via bank transfer. His excuse? “We are a business, and we don’t do wire transfers.” Really? A business that makes such a basic mistake and handles it with such indifference? Thanks to you, my wonderful memories of this trip have been completely ruined.

The staff was wonderful. We had a minor inconvenience in our room, and the staff fixed it immediately. The bed was comfortable. The room was clean. The hotel was in an area with great restaurants. The Tenement Museum is one of our favorite visits when we come to New York and it’s right next door! We will certainly be staying here again!

Great hotel! They upgraded me to the Presidential Suite! Although the sauna was still not working, the steam room works great. Although the TV in the gym had limited sound, the gym was nice, having barbells, free weights, stretching mat and aerobics machines.

Great place for my staycation—gym, steam room (but where the sauna was not working). Gym equipment improved with barbells, free weights and bench(es), but TV’s audio wasn’t working properly/loud enough to hear. In rooms, good that sink has very hot water and stopper was working properly, but suggest cleaning the underside of glass desktops.

HORROR ROOM: This was the worst room I have seen given my many hundreds of hotel bookings internationally. There were no windows, and the photos falsely represented what I paid for. The manager was rude, and blamed me for arriving in the evening. But when you take $300 from someone, they don’t expect to be put in a dungeon after a long flight. It was so bad that I booked another hotel instead. Terrible service, terrible room, terrible attitude.

The staff is the friendliest I have ever seen . Walk right across the street , nice cozy bar and to the next corner to another one and one block north for amazing $2 oysters at happy hour with happy bartenders . And an awesome barista one short block away behind the hotel . The view of the Freedom Tower and uptown buildings is amazing . Ask which rooms you can see it all from . I was lucky to experience a stay in a penthouse

There are lots of amenities in the area. Close to little italy and chinatown, yet still in the heart of the lower east side. Hotel was nice. It was a bit dated but clean. Typical nyc hotel room, small. Had a room with a balcony, which was intetesting to hear all the sounds and see the sights of daily life in nyc.

Great place to stay in the Lower East Side. The area immediately around the property is rundown and there’s quite a bit of trash all over the streets surrounding. The city could do wonders by picking up trash more often and not allowing people to dump trash out all over the place to pick through and collect cans/bottles. The hotel itself was lovely and the staff were great.

When booking, I did the option reserve now and pay at the hotel. I was messaged via expedia the morning off before arriving asking to pay before arriving, stated due to “scam” The front desk was not as friendly. She didn’t even advise me check out time when checking in. There was only one young boy with curly hair who was nice. No where on the expedia link did it state a deposit was needed. She told me she needed a “incident fee of $150” with no explanation just asked for a card. Housekeeping only cleaned my room once out of the 3 nights there. The room was decent and balcony was a nice addition. Before checking out i ran to get breakfast around the corner . The house keepers were asking me if i was going to take my stuff. Check out felt rushed really felt uncomfortable. Lower east side was fun good area for bars and food. hotel experience here wasnt the best

I'm always auditioning NY hotels when I visit the city, and this is my new favorite! Rooms are small of course, like all NY hotels, but clean and beautiful. Really lovely all wood furniture, nice bathroom, my room had a balcony. Plus every room has a fridge which is also hard to find in relatively inexpensive NY hotels. It's also just a beautiful place - lobby is very pretty. I come to NY for great food and drink so the area is perfect for me, and has easy transport to visit folks in Brooklyn, or around Manhattan.
