Reviews
The hotel staff is consistently praised for their friendliness, helpfulness, and professionalism. The location is also highly commended for its proximity to local attractions, restaurants, and the subway. However, there are mixed reviews about the rooms, with some guests finding them clean, spacious, and quiet, while others report issues with cleanliness, size, and noise. The restaurant and food also receive mixed reviews.

We checked in at 1am because of a late flight, with Melissa at the front desk. She was the only one who was helpful and not dismissive like the rest of the staff the next morning/day. We had to get two separate reservations, for two different rooms because rooms weren’t ready. Both rooms had little to no outlets to charge phones and the ones they did have, didn’t work so my phone was dead the next morning. Both rooms had no shower doors. Just a tiled shower with no door which left the whole bathroom floor wet. Not to mention everything in the bathroom had awful smells. In addition, they charged us all kinds of fees that were not disclosed in the beginning of check-in. What should have been a $489 room, was charged $715, plus two separate charges for almost $200. Would not recommend this hotel.

This hotel is the worst I have stayed in the 30 hotels I have stayed so far this year. It is essentially a motel quality hotel with nice , exaggerated photos on the internet. There is dirty carpet in the room and corridor. There is no water, and no coffee in the room. They also try to overcharge you when you check out. There is $45 facility fee per day with only a dingy gym. They gave me a really bad room when I check in. I tried to change to another room, and they told me it is $150 upgrade fee for 2 days. However, when I checked out, they charged me $150 PER DAY for the upgrade, which on hotels.com, the fee for the room difference is only $20 per day. There are also facility fee of $45 per day, and 2 State Tax, and 2 City Tax PER DAY on the invoice. When I confront them, they said they will refund the 1 day upgrade fee. However, when I checked my credit card bill, it was never refunded. The front desk staff on Sunday & Monday, May 24th and 25th are very rude. I don’t know how they get high ratings on the site. There is no way this is a luxury hotel. The beddings are very cheap. Furnitures are beaten up. Worst hotel I have ever stayed in my life, because I was misled by the photos and reviews on the site. BEWARE!

Great location incl close access to subway libes 1, 2 & 3. The room was small but smartly dedigned. Bathroom was well equipped. Tribecca is a great area incl easy access to shoping, dinning, psrks not least the Little Island in the Hudson. We will stay here agai.

Very comfortable and clean rooms. Convenient location for walking or taking the subway. Great neighborhood.

The room was average notwithstanding the outside deck. There was not chair to sit in the room - two chairs on the deck os I took one in to the room. Understand the bed is low so a chair is needed. This speaks to the size of the room - needless to say TIGHT! As we know many hotels have gone to the dispenser strategy for bath products - two of the dispensers did not work! Did the staff check - probably not since they did not work until I checks out after three nights. Price to value - 3 stars out of 5

My room had a terrace 😍 which made the whole experience feel extra special. There’s nothing like having your own little outdoor space in the middle of NYC. The hotel felt stylish, comfortable, and easy to settle into. I’d absolutely stay here again.

An amazing hotel! Superb staff with the most accommodating attitude. Lovely and modern rooms which are so perfectly equipped. Once you arrive no need to leave with two amazing bars and great ambiance and food.

Great hotel! The front desk, valet, and bar tenders were amazing. Will definitely be back.

The location downtown is good and close to the subway and other points of interest. The common areas of the hotel are very nice including a bar. During my stay the windows were apparently being cleaned and I was not made aware. While on a work zoom, a man outside thumped loudly against my window, yelled something at me and pulled my cracked window shut. It truly disrupted my call and scared me. The hotel desk said they had fliers at the desk and told people upon check in but I had not been told and didn't noice any flyer. They agreed to take the resort fees off for my stay to compensate but didn't do that. It was a big lack of communication on a pretty major pending event. Other than that, they stay was good and the hotel pleasant.
- 3/5
There was no electrical outlet by the bed on either side, which meant my phone had to be charged far away and I couldn't get to my alarm.

Good staff. Quiet hotel and area yet still plenty of great food, bars and shops in area. Subway minutes away. Nothing fancy but good for the orice

Wonderful centrally located hotel. We had a corner room with city view. Hotel accommodations and staff were great.

Staff is very welcoming, accommodating and professional! Everyone from the front desk to cleaning staff was exceptional. Location is unbeatable and it’s a very proper high end hotel experience with solid rooms and a nice building. This is actually very rare to have in NY hotels unless you go for outmost luxury. This is extra and would probably make the hotel jump into a different tier but if it had a spa / sauna would have been amazing
- 5/5
Great location. Nice clean boutique hotel with friendly staff. Bed is comfortable. Duvet cover on comforter! Not a comforter wrapped in sheets that come off while you’re sleeping like most hotels. This is a nice touch.

The room was nice and spacious, the bed was nice and firm. The ample hooks and railings in the bathroom were nice and thoughtful touches. The shower flooded the bathroom every time we shower. And additionally the room was quite dark and could use an extra lamp or ceiling light near the mirror

For one night + valet fee we have paid $450 and they gave us expired snacks. It is unbelievable. When we got the home, we noticed that it is expired. Do not eat or drink anything in the room. To be honest other all of the things were good but giving the expired snacks to customers that was tough for us. For one night + valet fee we have paid $450 and they gave us expired snacks. Location was perfect for Tribeca. Lots of restaurants and stores nearby. Easy access to other parts of the city and to Brooklyn. The room was tiny and because we wanted the patio, it only came with a queen bed. Bathroom was lovely and large though.

The front desk wasn’t very helpful or accommodating — possibly because they seemed understaffed over the holiday period. There was no coffee or complimentary water in the room, and the hotel itself feels quite basic. Even at Christmas there weren’t any small touches for guests, not even a cookie or piece of chocolate. On the positive side, the rooms are large and the location is excellent. The restaurant is good, but the service is extremely slow, likely due to the same staffing issues, so it may be worth skipping on busy days.

the location is premium. and we like the size and cleanliness of the room. staff are super responsive when we asked for slippers and electric kettle. our main complaint is the decor is a bit old. the desk wobbles a bit and there is random buzzing sound coming from the fridge and receding lighting fixtures. the sofa bed mattress (we had a junior suite) is not quite comfortable but that was to be expected.

The room was quite large and had a great view and the bathroom had a large tub and shower and the location next to subway stop was great. The reason for the lower rating is that we specifically booked a room for 3 people and the hotel/expedia would not let me book any other rooms other than the corner room for 3 people even though the other rooms were less costly and had the same size bed. The pictures made it look like there was a pull out sofa. When we got to the room it was just one king bed no sofa. I called the front desk to inquire and they told us they could bring up a cot or we could move to another room but the other rooms were more expensive and I would have to pay the difference. I asked why this room said it slept 3 while others with same bed said 2 only and the front desk said it was because there was more space in the room to fit 3 people? they offered a rollaway but it was not clear if I would be charged and the website says the cost for a rollaway was another $75. I would likely not book there again as it felt deceptive and it did not feel like the front desk attempted to find solutions (I believe there were unbooked other rooms we could have moved to).

Our room was very clean. Staff was very friendly. Great location with subway conveniently located within steps of front door. That said, it could be loud at night given the location (not an issue for me). I also recommend the carpet be replaced in hallways and in rooms. Looking shabby and old and stained.

The room was modern, minimalist and clean. Great staff as my first flight scheduled for an 11:00am departure was canceled without advance notice so I was able to quickly book a new flight for 10/31. I eventually landed in Newark at 11:30pm. I spent my entire birthday in the airport but the relief was being welcomed by the overnight associate with a bun and glasses. He checked me in quickly and I went to my clean room and walked to Joe's to get the perfect birthday meal. I also was able to get a late checkout for the Monday after the marathon and the African-American woman with long brown hair was very accommodating and pleasant. 5-star trip all around. Thanks so much! DDIII

The bed in the hotel room was incredibly comfortable, but that was about as good as it got. The room had absolutely no style or personality. It was dated and there wasn’t a single piece of art or any decor at all. It basically looked like somebody’s spare bedroom. I understand what minimalist design is, but this room just felt like it was about half finished. The hallways looked beat up as did the carpet in the room. On the plus side the staff were incredibly friendly and helpful, but there is absolutely no way this is a four star hotel. It’s not a bad hotel by any stretch, it is simply a basic hotel in Tribeca, but for the price I expected a lot more.

Needed to extend my stay by 1-day. I informed them of this on Day 1. I was told not a problem and that they would send me a confirmation of the additional day. I checked with them multiple times, via multiple people over the subsequent 3 days, before I got confirmation the day before I was originally scheduled to leave, when they finally told me my room type was not available, but they had a room for double the cost. I was in a bind, so I had to accept their terms as getting a comparable room for the same day at a Hotel in Manhattan was next to impossible. I will be looking for a different hotel for my next monthly trip to NY.

Location is good, room was okay (but only after repeated requests to front desk and tipping housekeeping to actually do their job). Staff was very rude, front desk literally lied to us about how much credit we had for breakfast, only when we checked out did we realize that we wasted money eating elsewhere for no reason. Room was absolutely grimy in certain places like between the mattress and bed frame. Bathroom was full of other people's hair. Room was run down - bathtub plumbing was broken, drawers were broken.

I stayed at this hotel before and had a pleasant stay but this time, the room was not updated and very disappointing.

Great location. A little surprised at the condition of the furniture and fixtures. Lamp shades were broken and tilted. Desk rocked back and forth. Tables were chipped. The strangest thing was the bathroom. A frosted glass wall in the shower that was adjacent to the bedroom. You could see the outline of the person in the shower. Also, if you got up in the middle of the night to use the bathroom, the light lit up the whole bedroom because of the frosted glass shower wall. Very odd. Unless there was another room design, I wouldn't stay here again. The staff was nice. Complimentary glass of champagne on arrival but the snack in full view when you were walked into your room were actually mini bar priced and it was very unclear they were not complimentary. Lose M&Ms and nuts in mason jars- appeared to be complimentary. The bar and tavern were very pleasant but surprised at the hallways- seemed to be very low budget for the price of the rooms.

The location of the hotel and the staff was amazing. It's a quiet location with easy access to the subway, multiple restaurants, bars and stores nearby. As for the rooms, they need more electrical outlets, I struggled to find where to plug something in. The doors were very loud when they closed and the automatic lights in the bathroom were an inconvenience. Since the bathrooms are separated by a glass wall, everytime my husband went to the bathroom at night, the room lit up and I woke up.

From the moment we checked in until the moment we checked out everyone was so cordial and friendly. The hotel room was clean and smelled clean, housekeeper was super sweet and kept our room tidy. We love taking quick trips to New York so this hotel is definitely on our list and will stay here again!

Construction going on all around the hotel, also at the hotel which has (decorative) scaffolding up. Nice hotel, have stayed there before, not cheap but more reasonably priced than others in the area, like the Conrad.

will charge you what they feel, does not matter if you booked a reservation, the rooms are very LOW quality, and they put all their effort into upcharging, better to stay elsewhere. worst stay so far

Really close to the metro, great lounge, but the hotel is a bit dated, carpet stains, the hotel reception area had a musty smell, hot water not working all that well in our room and I feel like this was 3 star at very best. Stay elsewhere for the money, sincerely.

Great property and value. I stayed on the 5th floor, which was in need of some reconditioning (carpeting and furniture was a little banged up). But, it was clean, quiet, and comfortable.

Great location, can’t beat it especially if you will be using the subway. The bathroom had that weird light block design so you can see silhouettes from the bed area of the shower- wasn’t an issue for me as I travelled solo but something to consider depending on who you may travel with.

The Smyth was centrally located in Tribeca. It had a very cool vibe. The front desk was very friendly and helpful. The gym is great, one of the best I have seen for a small boutique hotel. I did not think the bed was as comfortable as other hotels.

Nice hotel in a great location. Right next to a subway line and close to other subway lines as well. Hotel staff is nice and friendly! Rooms are clean and modern and spacious. Highly recommended.

Clean hotel, wonderful staff, and convenient to transportation (subway and Uber).

Hotel did not have the room selected and downgraded us.
- 3/5
This hotel was average. The room maintenance is was not what I would have expected for the price.
- 5/5
The rooms are comfortable and the King superior room we had was filled with lots of natural light (it was a corner room). Room needs more plugs for all of our electronic devices, though. Would stay here the next time we visit Tribeca.
- 3/5
The room was old, carpet not clean, lacked plugs. To get hot water you wait about 5-8 minutes of running water. Bathroom was OK. I expected a higher end hotel for the price (even in NYC). . Staff was very helpful and nice
- 5/5
Fun area of NYC lots to see and do.
- 4/5
We only stayed for one night but we found our Smyth experience to be an all around good one. We didn't eat there but there is a lovely bar area with fireplaces that stays open late enough for an after show/plans drink. Staff was always nice and the room was large and well kept. It is also extremely close to the subway. Would definitely recommend if you need a place to stay in the area.
- 4/5
Stay was nice; however received an email to be granted early AM check but our room was not ready upon arrival. The hotel did keep our bags while we explored some nearby shops. Also, the hot water in our room was glitchy and you had to let the water run about 5mins before it turned warm. Overall great stay, location was good.
- 5/5
Fast, easy check in with welcome drink. Staff were very polite and helpful. We didn’t request housekeeping, but they were bringing fresh towels and toiletries every day and they were super helpful and friendly. Hotel allowed us to store our luggage after check out. Convenient and safe location.

Great service. The tavern offers delicious food and drink.
- 5/5
I would highly recommend this place, it is right by a subway station. Has an amazing pizza place and Starbucks, bagel shop and a couple of fine diners around.
- 4/5
We’ve really grown to love Tribeca. There are wonderful restaurants nearby, easy walk to the Brooklyn bridge, Ground Zero, and a reasonable walk to SoHo shopping and restaurants. This was our first time staying at The Smyth. The hotel was well kept, staff nice, and had everything we were looking for during this quick long weekend stay.
- 4/5
Excellent location, friendly staff and clean, comfortable rooms. My only issue was with the bathroom - the door slides to close but does not really close so there was no real privacy. Also the light in the bathroom was motion sensored so turned on whether I wanted it to or not. If the bathroom didn’t have a frosted glass wall this would not be an issue. Otherwise I was very happy with the hotel especially the location.
- 1/5
The alarm clock went off before 6am - I did not set the alarm. There was only one shower towel in the bathroom. The trash can in the room wasn’t emptied and there was trash and clip-in fake hair left behind. Super gross. Then when I retrieved my car from valet, the seat belt clip that allows me to drive without wearing a seat belt and setting off the seat belt signal was missing/stolen. Overall, I would never stay at this hotel again or recommend it.

Awesome place in the middle of tribeca. Super convenient location while staying at a comfortable, clean, nice place.
- 5/5
Fabulous hotel with amazing service in the heart of Tribeca!
- 5/5
Service was great!! Very nice people working there. Things were clean except the carpet was badly stained in several places, definitely needs replacement. The thermostat did not seem to be working. It was 70 when I checked in, I tried to make it a bit warmer, but it went down to 67.

I am hesitant to leave this review because too many people will find out about this wonderful rest-spot in a crazy-busy part of Manhattan. Pure paradise. What a great hotel!
- 5/5
Love the area and staff was exceptionally kind
- 5/5
We were greeted and everyone was so nice. Room was a good size especially in NYC. The only thing was the doors all stuck so you had to push your way in and the absence of a shower door is a big miss. Water everywhere and drafty in the shower.
- 5/5
Very convenient location in a very nice area Tribeca. It is very close to world trade center. The area is clean and quiet. Property is not fancy but clean and in good condition. The staff are nice, service is good.

Very nice location
- 5/5
We love The Smyth! The location is awesome. The rooms are spacious and the bed is very comfort. The lounge really nice. There is always a doorman and someone on duty at the front desk. It’s a hidden gem. We will definitely stay there again.
- 3/5
The Smyth is hit or miss with their rooms and their service. Some rooms are great others absolutely horrible. Same with staff. Depends on who’s at the front desk. Location is good. The bathrooms have annoying motion detected timer lights with no dimmers that can’t be turned off. Really annoying in the middle of the night. The Queen balcony rooms are the size of a shoe box. Balcony is bigger than the room practically. Corner King is a great room. Junior suite is dark and dingy. No sunlight practically.
- 3/5
Pros: Staff is very nice and helpful Property and room was very clean Bathroom is very nice and shower is spacious Cons: bed, toilet, and chairs feel like they were meant for a child, extremely low to the ground. TV is small and outdated (Google chrome cast) didn’t work Doesn’t feel worth the price tag overall it was a good stay, not that it’s bad but wouldn’t stay here again.

I was expecting more for the room. We went to celebrate my husband’s 85 birthday! Not a single detail or effort to make his birthday special. In addition, bed was very uncomfortable. Bathroom only has two towels-I had to call and ask for more. Never arrived, my husband had to go and pick them up. Very uncomfortable bathroom set up. No space to put our stuff. Room vas very dark. Only one window. The AC was not good. I was hot all the time I was there. WiFi reception was very spotty. And after everything we paid, they charged us $45 per night as a service fee. When I asked what was that service for, they didn’t know. Very bad experience.
- 2/5
It’s says tribeca on the listing, but it’s on the border with the financial district, making it kind of inconvenient to get to popular spots around the city. I found myself walking a lot. Good luck getting Wi-Fi. My room didn’t have any and it took days to connect. Staff downstairs is all attitude.

Nice stay great property

Loved this hotel. Their Queen room with Terrace is just perfect. Fridge fully stacked with anything and everything you could need after a long night. The best part in room breakfast service option! Something that many hotels do not offer. We enjoyed breakfast in our beautiful terrace surrounded by blooming wild lavander flowers! We will definitely be visiting again for another weekend getaway. Thank you for the hospitality.

This was mom and dads night away from the kids. The staff at this hotel went above and beyond to make the overnight stay here special for us. The warm welcome we received as well as the tasty food cooked to perfection delivered by room dining made the experience all the more better. The cleaniness and amenities provided a sense of relaxation and calm. We will definitely be back, and were not bringing the kids.
