Renaissance New York Chelsea Hotel

Position. Stop. * The windows have zero soundproofing. You can hear everything, even from the higher floors — actually, it’s even worse up there. * There is no free Wi-Fi. You have to pay $9 per day just to send messages, and if you want actual internet access, it’s $15.90 per day. Seriously? Are we in New York City or in some remote village? * The bathroom toilet makes strange noises for about five minutes after every flush. * There is no wardrobe. Yes, serious hotels in New York have wardrobes. This one does not. * Constant noise from the venue/bar upstairs, with people yelling, coming and going drunk at all hours. * There is no minibar or refrigerator in the room. We booked a King Corner Room with City View, supposedly one of the better rooms. It’s ridiculous that you can’t even keep a bottle of water cold. * Rude staff, especially the useless guy sitting near the elevators. I’ll be making a public complaint about him. Extremely rude. I understand you’re unhappy with your life, but that’s not our fault. * Homeless people standing right outside the entrance bothering guests the moment they walk out, repeating nonsense and harassing passersby, while the staff does absolutely nothing about it. Embarrassing. For a hotel that presents itself as a premium property, this experience was completely unacceptable. I would not stay here again and would not recommend it to anyone visiting New York.

Great location and staff are friendly. Nice view from the 23rd floor. Very slow elevators (they block off 2/4 each weekend for the club that's on premises). Had to ask 3x to get the travel crib that should have been there on check in. Very expensive for what is provided - small room, had to have bar fridge sent up, no water provided each day by room service etc just not a 4 star experience.

It was close to my office 1- The water shut off from 12- 5:30am. I never received an email. I would expect an email from the hotel or booking.com. very up set over this i would have booked another hotel. 2- No room service after 11pm. Its NYC - room service should be available until 2am. No room service for breakfast either! 3- You cant get into the front of the hotel at night because of the club. It’s loud and annoying. Hotel should have that figured out and have the libr go in the other direction since the business are closed at night 4- room and bathroom is very small. They dont have complimentary water or robes. 5- I wont be going back to this hotel

2. The first day they didn't allow me to have the full breakfast even though I have paid for it. I had to to go through my paperwork to prove it to them for the next day .

I really liked the location. It was easy to get to Central Park as it was down to the ferry. The hotel was clean and staff were nice. I wished we had the chance to go to the rooftop bar but didn’t realize it was only open during certain days and had a dress code.

They didn’t clean unless I call the reception.

We couldn’t get our hop on hop off tickets or free museum tickets because they said they had a falling out with the operator and the manager wasn’t around. Staff very rude and not helpful. Went to get a drink and bar was shut. No tea or coffee

Updated and very clean property in a great location. Lots of restaurants and bars nearby. An added bonus was free and readily available street parking on the weekend and evenings.

Already reserved rooms here for our next trip.

The view was nice. The bed was comfortable. The hotel was overpriced for what you got. The quality definitely should’ve been better. With the club embedded into the hotel. Random users of the elevator it didn’t make the experience as luxury as advertised.

Hotel was in a great location. Clean, large rooms with real bathroom doors :) staff was wonderful as well. Definitely recommend

The hotel is in a great location with some of the most welcoming and attentive staff, would highly recommend for your next New York stay!

The room served its purpose, was on smaller side. Amenities were rented for private party. The surrounding area wasnt much around in walking distance.

Clean room, friendly staff, great location near the High Line, half way between Central Park and lower Manhattan. Only downside - having to pay for Wi-Fi.

Location Housekeeping didn’t dust the rooms, dust particles were visible on furniture, walls and doors. Housekeeping didn’t give us the right number of towels one time and left soiled or stained pillowcases on the desk. Telephone couldn’t be fixed.

We had a corner view room and was told it was larger than average. The wardrobe was only 12 inches wide so we ended up living out of suitcases with clothes over the floor. On most days the rooms did not get made up until after 3-4pm so sometimes we would go out and come back to an unmade room with no clean towels. Not a hotel I would recommend or stay at again

Friendly staff at front desk Noisy guests in the hall outside our room kept us up for hours. There was a party in the hallway. The room was small without adequate lighting. The bathroom sink was tiny. Could barely was my face. There was an empty lotion container in the bathroom. No lotion, just the container.

I was on 35 floor and every night from 12-4 am I could not sleep because the music from night club next door was extremely loud and disturbing! I would not have booked a room there if use been informed of the club that close to hotel.

Staff were lovely and very helpful especially with my 88 year old Dad who uses a walker and needs help. Room was very clean and was cleaned each day. Great location with lots of walkable restaurants, coffee shops, and subway nearby. We found it easy to get around many of the popular NYC sites from this location in Chelsea. Would definitely stay here again.

Overall we really enjoyed our stay. Our only complaints were the elevators took FOREVER, the water drained slow from the shower, and the food in the restaurant was not good.

I don’t have enough nice things to say about this hotel. The service is fantastic. The staff is friendly. The hotel is stunning inside and the decor is friendly and comfortable. Pure class.

We had no hot water - called the front desk - they sent someone up to check - he showed up after 15 min - checked the water in the washroom sink ( not the shower ) and said give it till dinner time I just turned on the boiler ? 🤔 okay no… 4 girls coming in from Canada for 5 night with no shower isn’t good. We told the front desk once we got down to the floor and said we had reservation. ( dinner ) and if there isn’t hot water we’d like another oil or we’d have to leave . Once we returned At 7:30 pm we still had no hot water - the front desk gave us another room but it was smaller then the original one so they brought us to the 8th floor room 810 ( we had hot water in that room - and that’s what we stayed in - Just upset that we had to repack all of our belongings and told to wait for the boiler to get hot in order to shower ? We paid 3200 for 4 nights 5 days we shouldn’t have to had moved to 3 rooms to be comfortable l.

Everything is super accessible, transportation food everything and anything is either on the corner down the street or a couple blocks away which was so convenient! Toilet was jammed, service team haven’t closed our room after cleaning, so we came back to the room full of our stuff with the door staring open for half a day. Service was bad, staff are not knowledgeable neither friendly. At the checkout they couldn’t split out bill in two, only one payment station was working… no apologies or refunds at the end of this awful experience

The view from the room is amazing up on the high floors. The room is very comfortable. Cons: there is a bar on the 39th floor that goes untim 4am and is veru loud with dance music. But if you have white noise you wont hear it. Also when I was there the gym was a hot mess, buckets everywhere filled with water , I guess they had a leak. This is close to FIT and everything we needed to drop our daughter at college. The lobby is comfortable including a patio with covered seating. Free bottled water, coffee in the room, Kevin Murphy products and reasonable rooms for luggage despite it being in NY. Front desk was so easy and accommodating.

Reception staff were mostly rude, not very welcoming, and any issue we had was met with a very blank uninterested expression. We had to ask daily for our room to be cleaned/ towels changed. Very annoying if you’ve been out all day and then return to a your hotel room with no clean towels or bed made.

I had a pleasant and quiet stay at this hotel in Chelsea. I felt safe in this part of the city and the subway only a block away. The hotel was clean and had a unique artsy vibe.

We enjoyed our stay celebrating a friend’s birthday. The location was good for quick walks to Bathhouse and Pergola. Cleans rooms. We slept very well.

Was an excellent pleasant surprise everyone from the minute we walked in, was courteous and friendly, very clean rooms and the entire staff was excellent, especially at the check-in especially Phoenix and the bartenders late at night. Not sure of their names.

Not what I expected from Renaissance, but not entirely bad, either. Would have liked a bigger bar area, as this hotel’s bar was small, cramped, and under-staffed. One bartender for an entire hotel the week after Christmas was not enough. But there wasn’t room for much more, either. Still in all, a good place to get some sleep and get out and see NYC.

The hotel is attached to a nightclub and people who were not staying at the hotel were allowed to go anywhere they wanted as there is no security on the premises. On our last day the AC broke and our room was registering 78 degrees. The hotel is attached to a nightclub and people who were not staying at the hotel were allowed to go anywhere they wanted as there is no security on the premises. On our last day the AC broke and our room was registering 78 degrees. Great place!

Nice hotel in a very good location. The elevators are really slow. Complimentary water is a nice touch as there is a plentiful supply. You will spend a lot of time waiting on elevators and as long as you are patient and not in a rush then you should be fine. Heat in our room did not work 1st day but was fixed.

Also, the rooms are small but well designed. The bathroom doors are actual doors with hinges and a handle. They don’t have the barn doors that are so terribly annoying these days. There are not enough elevators to service this hotel properly and there can be long elevator lines which is especially problematic during thehours of 4 PM and 8 PM. There are no do not disturb door hangers so the excellent cleaning staff will loudly knock on your door at 9 AM. It would be great if they could provide do not disturb signs so that we were allowed to sleep in on vacation. The pillows they use are very nice but are super super squishy so I needed multiple to feel like I had any support. I had to ask three times for the pillows but they did send them and we’re very kind once they did. It’s a crazy weekend Manhattan so we paid the rate of 879 a night, which feels like too high for this hotel. There’s no special quality of service, so while it’s a nice hotel, it’s more of a 495 or under a hotel, not a 875. I feel like the value for the money wasn’t there. As with so many hotels, they appear to turn off the air-conditioning or fan in the middle of the night, so if you’re like me, you will wake up at 3 AM I wonder why it’s so hot! And finally, I feel like they should have a lighted make up or magnifying mirror on an arm in the bathroom.

The property is clean and tidy. Rooms were tiny but New York is the playground! We were on the 32nd floor and we were able to hear the booms and bass of the nightclub, I can’t imaging how horrible it would’ve been on the lower floors. I recommend to get the city view room, waking up and going to bed to the Empire State Building was amazing! We also loved the little waters at the reception. We overall really liked our stay here!

Nice reception and a small bar/seating area. Nice seating area outside too. Location was good. Staff were good. The only problem was the lack of wardrobe space. Literally one foot wide. We were there for 6 days so couldn’t upack and had we not been moved to a larger room, would really have struggled moving round the room with cases on the floor

Great customer service! Feels luxury and cozy. Room cleaning every day like the check in day. Restaurant is delicious. Breakfast on point with different options and good coffee. Love this Hotel!

Also when I checked in, they did not mention the resort fee and what it could be used towards. Other properties generally welcome you as a Marriott Bonvoy customer, but nothing here. I spoke to the same person when I was checking out (to report the curtain issue above); she did apologize but it felt very scripted and cold. Maybe she was overwhelmed, maybe it's her personality but I expected better from this property.

no closets, bath robe, regular coffee. asked to get larger room and desk said they were all the same. The next night the manager said there was one... three doors down! I don't care if it's an accessible room. This room was over $450. and i had no where to put my clothes... or maybe, you removed the robes so there was room in the miniscule closet!

Fantastic place to stay in New York, near the Empire State Building and many shops around for food and just shopping. Cute little pop up markets and super close to 3 different metro stations for easy access around town

This hotel is in the perfect spot in NYC ! Definitely will be staying again. It’s so many stores in the area & also an amazing massage place across the street. 10/10 recommend. Celebrities also come to this hotel. It’s a thrift store across the street that dressed Rihanna & Michelle Obama how lit ! BOOK you won’t regret ; )

There are so many good things to write about. It was so easy getting around, walking distance to Times Square, Macy's, Empire State and also such good connections to the underground/Metro. We were here celebrating after our 16 year old daughters tough year with GCSE's. She absolutely loved it too, so happy child means happy parents. We will be coming here again.

Rooms are 'NY small' but comfortable and well appointed. I enjoyed the 'forest' theme.

Most NYC hotel rooms are small. So, this was the case with my room. It was clean and the cleaning staff provided extra attention during my stay. There are several restaurants and stores within walking distance. They have a rooftop lounge but it’s not owned by the hotel. So, you have to pay extra to enter. They have a restaurant but it’s hours are tricky because they’re not open during certain times. The staff wasn’t always accommodating or friendly during my 4 day stay. Overall, it’s an average hotel.

Very well located hotel in the heart of Manhattan, perfect place for those who have been to New York before and want to stay away from all the craziness in the Times Square area. Would definitely recommend!

Paying $85 even for NYC is very high to have to wait over an hour for my vehicle.

Only downsides were the limited number of elevators for its size and the common areas being pretty unkempt (used delivery boxes piling up, there was an entry coffee cup sitting on the front desk as we checked in and no one cared, cleaning supplies sitting in the hallways when not used…) - we’ll chalk it up to probable understaffing.
