Great location but some updates are needed. Wifi kept kicking us off, the faucet to the tub fell off at one point and there's only USB plugs on one side of the bed. It's a fine enough hotel but pretty expensive for the quality.

The hotel has an excellent Midtown location whether you’re visiting NYC for business or tourism, you’re right in the heart of Manhattan and relatively close to most major attractions. But what truly makes a place special are the people, and the team at this hotel was absolutely outstanding. Helpful, welcoming, always smiling definitely the highest rating from me. Honestly, everything was great overall

Love it

Hotel is very nice, good bar scene in the lobby and rooftop. Staff was attentive and the room is large for NYC, and the bed was just to our liking. Gave it 4 stars, would have given it 5, but the hallway is very dark by design, a little too dark for me.

Unfortunately upon arrival the staff was not aware of any VIP perks through Expedia Platinum status therefore I did not receive my Welcome Drink or Complimentary Room Upgrade (upon availability) like Expedia had advertised. Had this not been the case I would have not stayed here. The staff did however allow an early check in for me which was nice but while sleeping at 5am the guest staying above me was walking on the hard wood floors with heels on and I was unable to sleep. I most likely won’t be staying here again. The location is great however and there is a nice view of the Empire State Building.

The location was perfect! This beautiful boutique hotel was conveniently located to great restaurants, 5th Avenue and Times Square. We will be staying here on our next trip to NYC!

However, it’s starting to look a bit run-down. There’s a lot of wear and tear in the hallways and in the room we stayed in. It is still a very nice hotel, but not enough funds have gone back into maintaining it as a “luxury” option. I would stay again, but I would never pay full price for a night, and am exploring other options for future trips.

Lights were flickering on and off, TV volume would go off on own without touching the remote. No rain or storms when that happened or during stay of hotel. Not pleased at all

My family stayed four nights at the Refinery and thoroughly enjoyed the stay. We arrived as walk‑in guests and simply asked for a room. From the very first moment, we felt warmly welcomed, especially thanks to Luisa Garcia. Her exceptional friendliness and helpfulness truly made the difference. Although we discovered the hotel by chance, it was the kindness and pleasant manner of Luisa Garcia and her colleague that truly convinced us to choose it. My wife felt at home right away and immediately knew that this was the right hotel for her in New York City—quiet, lounge‑like, stylish, and with a wonderful scent throughout. Our children loved the breakfast, especially the pancakes, and dinner at Parker & Quinn was also fabulous. We also greatly enjoyed the hotel’s jazz bar, with its great location and excellent cocktails, which created the perfect atmosphere to end the evening. The hotel’s prime location in the heart of Midtown Manhattan, close to Bryant Park, was ideal, with many of New York City’s major attractions within walking distance, including Fifth Avenue, excellent shopping, dining, and convenient transportation options. The beds, rooms, toiletries, and overall atmosphere exceeded our expectations. My family would be delighted to return and would like to sincerely thank the Refinery staff for a wonderful stay.
- 4/5
The room was clean and spacious. We were told we would be notified when the room was ready, however we weren’t. I consider that a minor issue. We would have liked to be able to go to the rooftop but were unable to get a reservation until 9pm. Perhaps consideration could be given to hotel guests. All in all a good stay. Will return.

We recently celebrated my best friends 40th with a girls trip to NYC. We stayed at the Refinery Hotel. The staff was great and friendly! We really enjoyed the complimentary wine. The property is in a nice central area to all main attractions in NYC. We really enjoyed the decor with nods to the history of the building. The rooftop bar food and drink was great, even on a rainy March day. We also had drinks at the Parker & Quinn restaurant and the staff were attentive, and drinks were great. We were very disappointed that the hotel advertised a jazz restaurant with live music, yet it was closed for renovation. This was one of the main draws to choose this hotel over others. Usually a property will disclose renovations in an email or on the website, but we were caught off guard by this news at check in. We were surprised there was not reduced room rates to accommodate the closure. We were also charged for two items from the mini bar in our hotel room which we did not consume. We had already left the property by the time I got the final invoice, so I did not pursue a credit. My only other negative observation was the hallway to our room was constantly in need of a vacuum. The Refinery is still a nice property and I would recommend it for couples or friend trips. Not unfriendly to families, but also not catered toward family travel. If you don’t want to be in the heart of time square but still want to be nearby trains/subways to get around the city this would be a good option.

Staff was less than friendly or interested that I was a guest. Hotel is TIRED and rundown. The room (718) had poor lighting and the shower controls were broken. Either hot or cold as you could not control the water temperature accurately. The roof top server and restaurant servers were very nice, friendly and helpful. They can teach the hotel desk staff a few things!

Employees were very attentive and helpful. Room was generous in size and pretty quiet for NYC. Location was very convenient to shopping, Times Square and theaters, restaurants and transportation. On a more quiet street in the garment district. Loved the roof top bar as well. We requested a small fridge and it came quickly, no extra charge. The room was very dark and the largest light required you to plug and unplug it, no switch. The ice machine on our floor (7th) was broken so we had to request that. Minor hassle but for some it might be an issue.

Although we did not receive any VIP services. We really like this hotel. The front desk staff was very friendly and helpful. Our room the first night was very noisy. We could hear the street noise even though we were on 11th floor. They switched us with no issues and th second night was much more peaceful. Also the layout of the second room was much better. So just FYI room layouts seem to vary.

When I needed to move the date of the reservation, Booking.com was unavailable by phone for days, and the Refinery was not permitted to do so. Very inefficient, burdensome, and disruptive. Also, not enough convenient electric outlets in the room.

I agreed, left my luggage, parked the car, and came back around 2:30 p.m. to ask again if my room was ready. This time they told me that my room had been given to someone else, so I would have to keep waiting. Since the regular check‑in time was 3:00 p.m., they made me wait until 2:59 and only checked me in exactly at 3:00 p.m. It was very clear to me that the receptionist was being deliberately unhelpful and petty. I was kept waiting for hours with my children, even though the room was available and had been given to another guest, and then my new room was held back until the last possible minute. I am leaving this hotel extremely dissatisfied with the service I received at the front desk.

We stayed at the Refinery Hotel over Thanksgiving weekend and it was a busy place. Our check-in was 45 minutes later than promised due to housekeeping. The room was mostly quiet, except for equipment moves in a nearby service elevator during the middle of the night. Not terrible but also not great, especially given the high prices.

Great hotel and a fantastic location. Staff are miserable. Just don’t seem to have the right attitude. Not just one, but quite a few. Doormen and receptionists mostly. I think they need a training course on customer service and what it means. This might get them off their phones! Lovely Jazz bar but even the residents have to pay $25 dollars entry fee. Shame

Just keep putting charges through on your credit card when you’ve paid for the whole trip in advance on Expedia???? I left 2 days ago and they’ve put another unexplained charge through on my credit card having checked out and told everything was settled but c.$400 just charged. Nice hotel but not happy with their constant charging of my credit card, they have it on file and can take a hold at checkin and finalise bill and agree at end! Probably wouldn’t stay here again due to this and couldn’t recommend as a result!!

- 5/5
Great location and loved the rooftop bar. We would definitely consider staying again on future trips to NYC. Nice room with large comfortable bed and great bathroom. The view wasn’t great but we hadn’t paid for a room with a view.

The hotel is beautiful and our room was amazing! Spacious for our family of 4. We loved the high ceilings, decor, beds, views and cleanliness. More amazing though, was the incredible staff. Ralph, Jamilah, and Bryan were the most helpful, kind, fun, and professional people we've ever encountered at any hotel. They set the tone for our wonderful stay at check in, treated us and our children like celebrities the whole time :), and then had us already planning our next visit while checking out. Thank you for the memories!

We used to like staying here but unfortunately we won't be back. They have no one to help with your luggage, no front door person or if they do they were not there. And even when we left they front desk gentleman that wasn't helping anyone else as the lobby was completely empty, when we departed left us to deal with all 4 pieces on our own and didn't even offer to open the door. Toilet was running the entire time as well. The hotel is clean, the amenities in the room are nice but there is no security, no door man, no luggage person that was available, and so we won't be going back.

Perfect

Paid more for the Atelier room, but value not that great. Biggest issue and disappointment was the horrendous noise from the streets - the windows were evidently not effectively glazed and thus I could hear everything outside and my sleep was awful as a result. They have to sort out the noise prevention with upgrading the windows.

Our stay here was top notch. The location for a family is perfect (close to Bryant Park and easy walk to Rockefeller, 5th and Broadway/Times Square). When you stay here, go to Coffee Culture across the street for the best coffee! The rooftop was very cool!

We were celebrating a birthday and they made it feel very special.

Great property and location. The team are easy going and helpful. The wine upon entry is such a nice touch. I really enjoyed the flavor, a must try. The rooftop bar and the bar downstairs is such a lovely place to start or end your night. The rooms are spacious, have stayed in many hotels in this area, this is one I will return too. I almost don't want more people to know about this special place.

Great location. Rooftop bar was nice. Room was ok, but on the small side and had a lot of street noise.

More a 4 star than 5 star , very basic furnished and noisy when other people showed etc
- 5/5
Excellent property, friendly staff and walking distance to so many popular spots
- 5/5
Wonderful hotel and the staff was so helpful and kind. Will be staying here next time I’m in the city.

Great location! Easy walk to Times Square and Empire State Building, and also convenient to Soho and Central Park.

An hip oasis in the middle of the Garment District!

Excellent location. The hotel offers very spacious rooms with excellent rooftop, restaurant and jazz bar. Staff was very friendly. We walked everywhere from this location.

Excellent property. It met all of our needs in celebrating my partners birthday. It was clean, staff was extremely friendly. There was wine and Rose` flowing daily til 7pm. Restaurant staff were great and these spots on site were a vibe. Rooftop bar was an added bonus for unexpected nice weather in March!

Great stay!

The bathroom was amazing. The rooms were spacious. Ginormous for a hotel room of that cost in New York CityThe beds were comfy.

Upon entering my room, I was immediately struck by its cleanliness and inviting atmosphere. The bed linens were crisp and fresh, allowing me to sleep comfortably. The Refinery Hotel's charming blend of historical elegance and friendly staff sets it apart. The architecture carries a certain quaintness, with its unique design elements telling a story of days gone by while providing a cozy and enjoyable environment for guests. I also enjoyed Sunday brunch at the restaurant with family to celebrate a birthday. Each dish was beautifully presented and flavorful, creating a memorable dining experience. Overall, my stay at the Refinery Hotel was exceptional, and I cannot wait for the opportunity to return. The impeccable service, great location, and the hotel's unique character left a lasting impression on me.

My boyfriend and I had a wonderful weekend at the Refinery hotel! We had the pleasure of interacting with several members of the staff - Gabriel, Julian and Lewis - who made our visit incredibly memorable! We will be back!

I love staying at this hotel!

Brian on reception on the day we purchased some products the refinery pin and bottle opener Would definitely recommend

A great place to stay if your activities are in mid-town. Short distance from Grand Central, easy walk to Broadway, and close to Bryant Park. Quiet street, clean room and staff was very accommodating.
- 5/5
Love my stay here. Only feedback would be to have room service cleaning happen before 3pm.
- 5/5
Nice location, very good service. Nice welcome gift from manager. Room was somewhat basic but nice for this level of hotel. Great location easy walk to anything we needed especially broadway shows without being too close to Times Square and all of that absolute chaos!
- 3/5
This property definitely not 5 star as rated. Maximum 3 star
- 5/5
Staffing was very accommodating, let me check in early. Room was very clean, lots of room and large bathroom/Shower. Will stay here again.

The staff at the hotel was incredible. Especially Morgan at the front desk. The piano bar downstairs in the rooftop bar were so much fun. I’m planning to go back soon.
- 5/5
Staff was friendly and attentive. Great room amenities!
- 5/5
This was a perfect location, big rooms, an adorable jazz bar AND a rooftop bar that was very cozy in the middle of January! Walkability to Time Square, Bryant Park but also feels neighborly with Zucker bagels and some delicious cookie place across the street.
- 5/5
Really great hotel in a fabulous location! Highly recommend staying here.

staff was nice

Great location, 9 min walk to Times Square, 4 min walk to Bryant Park. Rooftop very nice and warm during winter! Rooms spacious compared to other rooms in NYC. Live jazz at the bar near the lobby is a plus. We will probably come back again.

Superb spot, classy large rooms and rooftop bar is incredible.
- 4/5
Great location, and nice bars in hotel so easy to grab a drink or food. The staff are so so, some not friendly (front desk, the rooftop bar) some great (the porter). Room was spacious and comfy but a bit dark. We would stay again due to amenities and location.
- 5/5
early check in and parking was easy
- 4/5
The rooms were spacious, location was great, comfy beds! The only issue was housekeeping, the floors and baseboards were dusty and it didn’t seem the room or bathroom were vacuumed. The lobby bathrooms were very dirty and almost unusable upon arrival. However, we got early check in and were happy with our room and stay. Just needs some housekeeping attention.
- 3/5
Mini bar fridge door didn’t close and the snack drawer was thick with dust. We were looking forward to this stay and spent a lot of money but it’s unfortunate we did not receive a five star experience. The location, however is great - right in the centre of midtown.
- 5/5
Friendly and accommodating staff. Great location for easy transport to any area of the city, Everything about the room was wonderful, decor, cleanliness, and the bed was perfect. Will definitely stay here again.

Really spacious rooms, convenient location, and clean!

Service was excellent from start to finish.

The hotel has a cool vibe. Nice very high ceilings so feels spacious. The free wine every afternoon is fantastic and was a nice treat coming back from a long day of exploring (with a 5 year old). The rooms could use some TLC - not too bad just some areas that could use a deeper clean, a touch up of paint or a bead of caulking. Generally staff was fantastic. The exception was the rooftop restaurant where staff were short and uninterested when my wife and child went for diner while I worked. They have a (funky) rooftop and a main floor restaurant. It would be helpful for the hotel to advise future guests to make a reservation beforehand or you won't get a table at a reasonable time (my wife had to eat at 5pm). Shower was big and had nice pressure. Beds were a little soft for us but that's more a personal preference. The location was great with short walks to many attractions and subways. Being close to 6th ave means a fair bit of traffic and emergency vehicles. Not a fault of the hotel NYC is just noisy. It did get quieter as it got later - don't feel we were woken up by noise though.
- 3/5
Shower was broken and difficult to operate. Tiny room that wasn’t ready until 4. Limited services inside the hotel. Very average hotel.

Great hotel especially the jazz bar. It’s a bit noisy in the morning, especially with the Cleaning staff who keep banging on every door so even if they’re not banging on yours it’s quite disturbing. The connected Restaurant is a great American bistro with good food options and even better drinks the terrace is also really nice, unfortunately what they don’t explain as it’s not owned by the hotel and the Management there are quite aggressive when it comes to hustling customers. If you stop eating or ordering for 10 minutes they try and move you out.
- 3/5
I always hesitate to leave a poor review because I respect that people do their best. However there is no way this is a 5 star property. Perhaps it may have been in the past but the condition issues in the rooms and lack of amenities or basic comfort like proper draperies are holding it back. some essentials like a coffee maker in the room, noise and light blocking draperies, attention to room condition etc would be small updates that could help them realign with current standards. Not sure how it got rated 5 star.
- 5/5
The hotel had no record of my VIP status. However, Jeromy (I believe was his name) a young desk clerk kindly upgraded us on his own accord. He also put Happy Anniversary on our bed and gave us a wonderful hotel candle as a gift. The hotel was great but I am concerned that for the second time our VIP status was not known to the hotel. Please note the reason I chose that hotel was because of the VIP benefit. Im hopeful that that doesn't happen again.

Stayed here with my tween daughters and we loved it! Location was great, able to walk (broadway, Times Square, Central Park, Bryant park). Beds were comfortable and room was nice and quiet, we slept so good. Would definitely stay here again.
- 3/5
The rooms were not clean either, a lot of debris and dust around the room. The carpet was not clean either. Although I can’t complain about the location because it’s out of their control, but the location was very hectic. Furthermore, when we first arrived there wasn’t a porter to help with our luggage’s.
- 4/5
Like this hotel. Was secondary stay. The positives: courteous, helpful staff, High ceilings, comfortable bed, very quiet at night. Some negatives: needs upgrades and repairs. Our bathroom water outlet was broken and spouted water back onto countertop, electric iron once filled with water rapidly dripped that same water over electrical cable.
- 5/5
Would stay here again. Safe, clean, great location.

It’s the 4th time we have stayed here but got nothing special - noticed the guy checking in next to me got a complementary upgrade. Also parking is outrageous
- 5/5
The staff was great.

Great hotel. We were able to walk pretty much to every place we needed to. Also, subway stations all around the area. Hotel was great! Spacious rooms, very clean, great customer service and beat roof top!

As with most hotels in NYC noise can be a bit of a factor, but otherwise my go to hotel when in Midtown NY.

Lovely hotel. Fantastic rooftop bar. Staff are gracious, helpful, and so pleasant.
- 3/5
The staff is nice, but they're bound by the rules and instructions they're given... I don't blame them... It's the hotel management and owners that seem to not care much. It was our first and last time there.
- 5/5
Excellent stay for a lot of out of town guests. The rooftop was a perfect place to visit and enjoy the city from above!
- 5/5
The hotel was clean and tidy. Room sizes are probably what you’d expect in New York, with great decor and bathroom decor and amenities being particularly good. Staff were very polite (as one would expect for a 5 star). And the property has good views from the rooftop though we were only able to see them during the daytime as there was a private function taking place the prior night and we were only staying one day for the weekend. All in all a great experience at a boutique property that was marginally more expensive than some of the chain hotels (4 star)
- 5/5
Great location, clean and well designed rooms. Beautiful rooftop bar and patio. Friendly staff.
