Reviews
The hotel is generally praised for its cleanliness, comfortable beds, and friendly staff. However, many guests find the rooms to be excessively small and the check-in process to be confusing. The location is often highlighted as a pro due to its proximity to public transportation and popular neighborhoods.

I'm a disabled Marine Corps Veteran and this was my worst stay in New York I have ever had. They over charged $354 for a double bed room one night thats advertised on their website for $154. Then we see tha tthe entire area around hotel is under major construction which was not informed to before booking. I respectfully asked for wake up call at 730am twice and received confirmation from the front desk representative when I checked in. In-addition there was fire truck with lights flashing in front our room from 11pm to 6am which kept up my 2 year old all night. I spoke to front desk representative at 830 when I left and they still had me staying up until noon which I recieved a text alert. Lastly, I went back to hotel to make sure I was checked out at 1130am and spoke to Ming the manager who didnt care about the issues, his other front desk representative was laughing about it. He also said they eont do wake up calls. This place is unprofessional, dirty and not worth the risk.

The hotel is over priced for what they offer So one one stole one of my packages delivered The rates should be cheaper for such a small room The rooms small and the toilets did not feel clean
- 5/5
I was a little shocked at first by the neighborhood, but it was fine at night and in the morning. It is perfectly placed between everything cool in lower Manhattan. Room was clean, cold, and dark when we slept. Nice shower too. I went with my adult son, my wife would have been not into it. You have to be a city person or young person I think. I'll be back! canal street mayhem

I was only in town for 4 days and by myself. This place is perfect for one person or a couple. The bed was comfortable, soft yet firm. The ac blows cold. The room i had was small but it seems to be the norm for most New York places I’ve stayed at. I would definitely stay here again. I would definitely recommend to friends. It has everything you need, a bed, a shower, ac and a fridge.

Perfect location near Canal, Little Italy A bit noisy. But earplugs were provided.

The room was clean and the staff was nice It was very loud pretty much from the morning until late night. The honking outside on the street was was driving us crazy. We were on the second floor. The room felt claustrophobic.

Comfort bed A lot of noise coming from de outside, no blackouts and also a lot of light

The nightstand (if you'd call it that) was a wooden milk crate given 10 coats of glossy black paint screwed to the wall. My shower water pressure was so low it was like a baby bird spitting on my head. After a couple days I did mention it to the manager and he was very nice and came and replaced the shower head. Shower, better. Not great, but better. It was okay, but it wasn't what I was expecting. If you're looking for a bare bones room to just crash your head at night, this would do the trick. I was on business for a week and it was just too cramped for me. Very nice staff, and very helpful.

Room and entire hotel was very clean. Air conditioner was noisy so it made it hard to sleep. Could not watch TV : no signal. Staff was helpful. Good location. Near several subway lines and buses. Short walk to Little Italy and basically in the heart of Chinatown.

I had a wonderful stay! The room was comfortable, the atmosphere was relaxing, and the staff made me feel genuinely welcome. Everything from check‑in to check‑out was smooth. I’d happily return on my next trip. It perfectly fit my needs, and I would consider stay there again on my next trip to New York City Location, breakfast, and mainly staff was the differential Nothing that I did not like, like I mentioned before, I would stay again

Great location.
- 4/5
Clean and spacious room for the location. Comfortable bed. Staff was pleasant. The breakfast should just be eliminated as it’s just plain bagels, toast one type of yogurt, & cream cheese. Not a breakfast. Other wise a decent stay.
- 3/5
The room was clean. Some cleaning detail was missed like dusty legs on the stool. Staff were friendly enough. Limited interaction but there was no need for much more. Breakfast very limited. Literally only coffee, activia yogurt two Flavours, dry bagels and bread and some jam and butter. Some cream cheese. Central area but quite scary with a number of illegal trade going on of fake goods. A number of police raids. Homeless people. Building had exterior building works so very noisy. NY being NY lots of people and traffic noise.

got the job done. beds were a bit uncomfortable. no tv. noisy out side

Location is right off Canal street with easy access to Soho, Chinatown. It's a very functional hotel with nonluxurious but useful amenities and is convenient, clean and affordable. It's no frills but if you don't plan to spend a lot of time in the hotel the function to price ratio is high. Staff was pleasant, friendly and always trying to be helpful. Lot of construction going on the street but that is not controllable by the hotel. You make a right out of the hotel and you get the hustle and bustle of Canal Street and if you make a left out of the hotel you get the fancy schmancy Soho vibes.
- 4/5
Staff were kind. Room was small but clean. Beds were comfy
- 3/5
It looked better in pictures. There was construction being done to the place. Neighborhood on Expedia was misleading, it says Soho, but it's actually the border of Little Italy and south of Soho. It was closer to China Town than Soho! The neighborhood was kinda dirty and messy. If I knew that was the real location I wouldn't have booked the room.
- 3/5

The staff was nice The rooms were incredibly small and tight, so was no room to walk bc the bed took up the whole room. The room smelled like pee and it was confusing on how to even get inside the building. Two police officers were trying to get inside at the same time as us and they didn’t understand it either. We had to call the building for someone to let us in bc no one was at the front desk to buzz the door.

The building sits over a subway that rumbles the whole place every 10-15 minutes. The elevator smells like urine, I only saw staff at the desk 3 times in 4 days. The rooms don't get any service at all. One of the worst places I have stayed in New York. It is cheap and that's the only positive.

Breakfast was OK, can be a good backup if you want to eat something and do not want to leave the property and look for breakfast places.

The room was nice and had a comfortable bed but the area is very loud outside. People screaming and lots of honking and sirens. The walls are very thin too could hear people walking in hallways and slamming doors.

Breakfast menu could use some more selections, but it was good enough for what we needed it to be.
- 4/5
Stayed for two nights and it was exactly what I needed. Close to the Subway and Chinatown. Room is small but it's NYC so it's to be excpected especially for the price. Staff was great. Only wish was that breakfast had more variety.

The one staff member we met was friendly. The room was tiny. There was no room to walk on either side of the bed. You had to crawl onto the bed to get into the bathroom. The bathroom was also tiny. Had to crouch below the sink to use the toilet. Could barely close the shower door. And there was light coming in from a window with no shade. It was also extremely loud.

Give more for the money or replenish more often? Proteins The $100 incidental should be combined with initial reservation. Travelers are on a Budget so its a financial nightmare.

The staff were friendly and helpful. They offer a service to hold your luggage for the day after check out so you can explore the city before catching your flight out. The only disappointment was the breakfast. For the price we paid for the room, we expected a better breakfast. All that was served was plain white bread, plain white bagels, small yogurts that were all sweetened, orange juice and coffee. No eggs, no oatmeal, nothing else. I would still recommend the hotel but know ahead of time that the breakfast is meager.

Lee and other staff members were very nice and polite with all of us but Andrew was the worse. When I came down the first morning to complain about the noise and to move to another room, Andrew was just arriving from outisde and said no, there is no other room. I said the gentleman who is at the desk right now is actually checking. But Andrew insisted. I do not understand why he was so rude, without the fact that he didn't have the computer to manage the rooms in front of him. Anyways since then, I had my first bad experience with him. When my fiancé were outside the hotel door, Andrew saw me telling my husband to come in, and I couldn't do it my self because my hands were full of stuff, he didn't even help him to open the door so he can get in. Also, the same day, at the breakfast lounge, Andrew came in and said there is a notice that we cannot use butter on the bread and put it on the bread, and immediately he ask one lady customer of the hotel accusing her of putting the bread to grill with butter. The lady from spain stayed composed and answer nicely that she didn't do it. He insisted and she reply again very nicely, that she didn't do it. Andrew was so rude to her, he didn't even apologize and he just left without a nice word to her or to all of us. At this point, Andrew is the worse and if I was the owner I would fire him right away.

Very friendly and helpful front desk team — they went the extra mile to assist me with my pickup. Excellent location, close to the subway and plenty of restaurants, within walking distance of Little Italy and Chinatown. The bed was comfortable and the room clean. The rooms are quite small and can be a bit noisy at night since the hotel is located on a main road — soundproof windows would be a great improvement. I also noticed a few insects in the bathroom. Breakfast options are very limited, with only bread, jam, and juice available. A Bit expensive to overall

Free Breakfast is white toast, everything bagel, cream cheese, jam, yogurt, butter, coffee and OJ from 7-9am. Hotel keeps it clean and stocked during breakfast hours. It was perfect for our needs. My recommendation is to get the larger room with 2 double beds bc the room with 2 twin beds is very tight. There is about 1-inch between the two twin beds. Bathrooms are a bit outdated but everything works well. Small fridge and ear plugs available in room. It’s NYC there will be noise from outside but mainly from Loud cars and police sirens. Shampoo and bar soap available. Air conditioner and heater unit also works perfectly. We had to use both heat and AC in November. Location is great. Subway stop is right beside. Chinatown steps away. Great restaurants, bars, shops all walking distance. Front desk is also helpful and friendly. Filtered water available all the time.

The rooms are different from how they look in the pictures, they’re much smaller. In my experience, for example, the room had no light, the white sheets looked yellow, meaning they seemed dirty, and the bathroom had mold on the floor. On top of that, you can hear all the street noise day and night.

Great little boutique hotel in an amazing location. Very close to Chinatown and Little Italy. The subway is only a few blocks away. There's also a great coffee shop in the same building. This hotel is nothing fancy, but it provided all the necessities, including a very comfortable bed, a good shower, and a clean, neat room. It was in a wonderful location, only a half block from the Canal Street Station and at the intersection of SoHo, Little Italy, and Chinatown. The bedroom and bathroom are quite small, but if you’re planning to be out all day exploring, it’s perfectly fine. We found many wonderful coffee shops, restaurants, and stores nearby and it was pretty close to the Blue Note, where we saw a great jazz show. I would stay again.

No art on the wall, simplest possible furnishings in rooms. No USB ports. Beds small but pretty comfortable, bathroom was quite nice, clearly remodeled recently. Now the bad news. No curtains, just wrinkled shades that let light in around the sides in the early morning. Door to room needs a sweep underneath to block light from hallway. Street noise was very loud with music blaring from cars until 11:30. Bring on the second floor wasn’t great. On the other hand the walls are pretty soundproof. Breakfast was disappointing. A basic keurig machine was not enough to handle a group of tourists in front of me and I never got a cup of coffee. Bagels and yogurt were provided but with no spoons for the yogurt. No fruit, not even a banana. Just a couple of tweaks could have made this much better. Fill up a coffee dispenser with coffee every morning and use the keurig for decaf and for when it runs out. Provide spoons and apples and bananas. Easy fixes.

You have to pay an extra amount for cleaning services and there is no microwave in the room only the lounge area. Meaning that if you need to heat up food after 9 PM, you’re not able to.

This hotel was extremely dirty. The first room they put me in had hair in the sheets, so they moved me to a new room and I found more hair in those sheets, and the sheets had blood stains! It looks like they do not wash their comforters on their beds…ever. They also make you sign a waiver for no refunds.

Brooklyn bridge 13 minutes walk. Breakfast included- toast bagels green cheese, butter coffee and yougurt. It can be loud at night but after about 11 pm noise dies down. Beds/pillows very comfortable. Linen is typical for this type of hotel.

30 minutes after booking, I called right away to let them know I could not stay there as I had to change my flight for a family emergency. They said too bad, and charged me fully for the room even though I wasn't going to stay there. I guess business is business, and I am rating them accordingly.

So for a NYC accommodation this is ok, but i just hope that the window had black out curtains, for someone who is very sensitive to bright light, the sun will wake you up from the window. There is no 2nd curtain to block the light. Maybe its good for early risers, but this was a let down. And the shower area is extremely small, im plus size and it was a challenge to fit inside the cubicle to be able to close the shower door. . If you are 300 lbs and up, i dont know how you will be able to close the door. You fan leave it open but the water will definitely flood the entire bathroom.

JG Sohotel is a pretty good budget-friendly hotel, but don't expect anything fancy or roomy. I would probably stay there again to avoid much higher prices at other hotels around the area. It is a very small hotel, so what you see in the online photo of the lobby is ALL of the lobby. Our room itself was super tiny, with very little space for 3 people to walk, and no good space to keep a medium or large suitcase opened. There was a rack to hang clothes, with 2 small/narrow shelves underneath, as well as a foldable luggage stand. But there was no room to keep the luggage stand and suitcase in place and still have space to move around the small room. The bathroom was also tiny, with a walk-in shower, toilet, and pedestal sink, and no space to place belongings. Bath towels were very small. In general, the hotel was clean; however, some of the bed linens were old and dingy colored. Nice touches included well-working AC, 4 pillows on each bed, disposable face towels, hairdryer, complimentary earplugs and Heinekens (though non-alcoholic) in room, and cold lemon-water and Emergen-C packets in lobby. The staff members were all nice, but not super-friendly. Meaning, they did not engage in any conversation other than brief for business purposes only. There is luggage storage for $5 cash per bag after check-out, so we were able to enjoy more time in the city before leaving. Sohotel is located right between Soho and Chinatown, and the subway is a short walk and very convenient. Thank you!

* The breakfast is incredibly Spartan; just bread and yogurt. * Apparently there's no daily cleaning unless you explicitly request it. * The windows block some sound from the busy street, but some gets through the AC unit.

Or conditioner supplied in the rooms. When I asked for fresh milk and fruit, I was told, what do I expect from a one star hotel? (that charges the same as a 4 star hotel nearby). And this so called Complimentary breakfast is over at 9.00 a m. Same answer when I asked for bathroom amenities. The location is on the corner of Canal and Lafayette streets, which means that if there is a traffic backup, there's constant honking. Especially from around four o'clock onwards. They might not supply you with milk for your coffee, but they do supply ear plugs, despite the fact that they advertised the hotel as being quiet. To its credit, I did not see any insects.

The stay was okay. Nothing great. We stayed 3 nights but I'm pretty sure the room was not entered once considering the towels that were used that were placed on the floor per the sign displayed were never replaced. You had to wander through a dingy maintenance area to go to the breakfast room. We've stayed in NYC before in better accommodations at the same price point. It was ok, but I wouldn't go back.

- 4/5
Great spot, very small room but it was clean and beds were comfortable. We didn’t spend much time in the room so it was perfect
- 3/5
Was a pretty small room. Even for nyc standards. The bed was pretty rough and the breakfast was literally bagels and toast. You do get what you paid for and the price is pretty good for nyc but I think just pay more for the luxury
- 4/5
Basic accommodations, good for price. Great coffee shop next door. Easy, walkable location. Would stay again.
- 2/5
Also, the rooms were very small vs. how they looked in the photos. The bedsheets and pillow covers had stains on them. Do not recommend this property to anyone. CitizenM pods are probably a better option in this case and also at a lower price point.

bugs and never went to go clean the room or change the towels

Great option for our family
- 5/5
The room itself was immaculate, stylishly decorated, spacious for NYC standards, and equipped with all the amenities we needed. The bed was exceptionally comfortable, ensuring a great night’s sleep after busy days exploring the city. We also appreciated the thoughtful touches, such as quality toiletries. The hotel’s location is unbeatable. Nestled in a vibrant neighbourhood (Little Italy and Chinatown) we were just steps away from fantastic restaurants, shopping, and easy access to public transportation. Whether we were sightseeing in Midtown or exploring downtown hotspots, everything felt conveniently close. What truly stood out was the service. Every staff member we encountered was professional, attentive, and eager to ensure our stay was memorable. If you’re looking for a stylish, comfortable, and well-located hotel in NYC, I highly recommend JG Sohotel. We can’t wait to return for our next visit!

This hotel is for kids the rooms are too small for the prices is like jail inside is crazy l didn’t even stayed l just payed and left
- 5/5
Great location, close to lots of metro stops. Clean and tidy. Anytime I needed a restroom it was only about 15 minutes away from anywhere in Manhattan. The staff is nice and it’s not loud at night.
- 5/5
Basic hote but it was perfect for what I needed - a place to sleep near my daughter’s apartment. Great access to subway - multiple lines. Excellent coffee in lobby. Clean. A little hallway noise at night and exterior noise but it didn’t bother me. I would stay there again
- 5/5
The hotel room was small, but it was clean, comfortable and relatively up to date. Maybe not ideal for families due to the smaller size. The area is bustling during the day and gets quiet at night. We generally felt safe walking back to the hotel in the late-evening. I highly recommend this hotel for solo travellers and couples who prefer a budget friendly hotel that is centrally located and within walking/public transit distance from all of the great things at NYC has to offer.
- 4/5
I really liked the hotel, but the first night was awful. One of the beds in our room was really uncomfortable. One of the sides had a big dent/whole that you would literally got stuck in. I changed to the other bed and was able to sleep better. The location is very close to a subway stop and has a lot of close options to eat or shop. Will probably stay again. NY is noisy and dirty but the hotel was a nice surprise for a short visit.
- 3/5
This place was great! That staff was kind and welcoming. The room was the perfect size if you’re traveling alone or with one other person. The rooms are small, but worth the price you’re paying.
- 3/5
It was just ok.
- 5/5
The staff were very helpful. My phone battery died, and they let me use their charger and phone and were cool about it.
- 5/5
Close to the subway and Chinatown. Great location. Rooms were small (it's NY), but the hotel has everything you need. Lots of dining options in the area. Water and coffee in the lobby. Water pressure and heat was great in the shower. Overall, I would stay here again.
- 5/5
Great location close to subway. Friendly desk staff. Clean room but no daily service automatically, which may be a plus for many people.
- 5/5
Pleasant, clean. Front desk staff were friendly and helpful. Daily maid service may cost extra.
- 5/5
We had a great experience!! Not only was it a great location for what we needed but the staff was super friendly and the place was clean and easy to check in and check out!
- 4/5
Easy on off subway
- 3/5
We have stayed in NYC many times but this was by far the finest room we have had and was way too expensive for the room. Was very loud as we were on the second floor with street noises and then next to the elevator with loud guests. Staff was excellent, but pricing does not match the actual room experience compared to other hotels we have stayed at in the same area and price range.
- 5/5
All of it.
- 5/5
This property was exactly what we were looking for in NYC! Great location right off the Canal Street Subway so easy to get anywhere and everywhere. There are some great restaurants in walking distance. Would stay again!
- 4/5
Our stay was less than 24 hours. We were in a college visit and were looking for a decent hotel walkable to Pace and NYU. We found close parking without checking the website for suggestions. The front desk staff was lovely. We did not require anything additional from the staff. Adorable business cards with attached ear plugs were provided and the card read, “Just because the city never sleeps, doesn’t mean you shouldn’t.” Very clever! We were grateful for the luggage storage ($5/bag). We had less worry about anything happening to our luggage or car with luggage in it, while we were touring colleges. I would definitely stay here again if it was conveniently located to our activities.
- 4/5
Unfortunately the room is small, no chairs. Other than that. Good place to stay in. Convenience
- 5/5
It was very noisy.
- 5/5
Great stay - good location and clean room.
- 4/5
In the.heart of SoHo is what’s great. Two blocks from Little Italy and a further to China Town. The area feels a little rough for Suburbian but the location and friendly service of the hotel were great.
- 5/5
Great location with helpful staff! Definitely gonna come back soon
- 5/5
Great location!
- 2/5
Really feel like I was a bit duped on this one. Location is fine, but found an insect under the pillow, the room is TINY and if you are facing the street its noisy all night long (I get it its NYC). Cleanliness, and Noisy and size of room are all negatives for me.
- 1/5
We simply couldn't stay. So we informed BOTH the hotel and Expedia we were moving hotels and neither the hotel nor Expedia were willing to give us a refund. So they essentially stole $1500 from my pocket.
- 1/5
Disgusting room, internet was not working and will not provide a refund. Unsafe area, lobby was locked at all times. DO NOT STAY HERE
- 4/5
Close to plenty of shopping and eateries.
- 3/5
Nice but very small rooms. Hard to maneuver. Friendly staff. Close to shopping and food.

Aside from all esle. I received a call at 130am to ask where I was. As if I missed curfew. Embarrassing and certainly my first and last with any JG hotel.
- 4/5
Area is a little rough after dark on weekends. Beds were super comfortable! Bring your own shampoo and conditioner as they only have a 2-in -1 variety that is not good. They don’t have was clothes either but a disposable bath sponge which is weird. Coffee in lobby is good but I never saw any of the free snacks mentioned.
- 4/5
Good hotel for a trip to NYC if you just need a place to sleep. Clean, safe and friendly staff. Small rooms and no real amenities at the hotel.
- 5/5
Great location in the heart of Soho/Noho. Easy access to multiple subway lines. The rooms are small but spotless. Polite and helpful staff! We had a great stay.
- 1/5
The location is good walkable to where I needed to go . The staff at check inn was friendly , but when we checked out the next morning not so much, there was a roach crawling on our bed I took pictures and took them to the front desk . Which he just said sorry the room does get cleaned.and that he couldn’t do anything about it. Horrible answer . I
- 5/5
Front Desk Min was so helpful we left our passports in safe and realized it about 4 hrs from NY. He supported us every step of the way!
- 5/5
The hotel is close to several subway lines, and the check-in and check-out processes were easy. The room itself was small (but average for NYC) and clean. The bed was comfortable and the shower head was good. It all felt very updated.
- 5/5
It was a comfortable stay, since we were in the room just to sleep, so it was perfect. It was four of us and two full beds. If we would of hung out in the room, it was too crowded. The room was too small to hang out there. But you're going to be out and about & just go to the hitel te sleep, yhen its great. The customer service was excellent.
- 3/5
The service is below the minimum offered by most all categories of hotels. The room service is an extra charge of $20 per request. The noise coming from outside is awful. Holding the bags is $5 per bag. We will not return to this hotel.
- 3/5
Cheap hotel on a busy street at 5 am. The hotel is on Lafayette but at the corner of Canal. Loud delivery trucks start at 5 am. The hotel was more like a hostel than a hotel. The bed was pushed up against the wall on one side and there was less than a foot at the end of the bed to pass through. The room was tiny! Also, the price was listed at $197 but it really costs $267 for the shoebox once the fees were tacked on.
- 1/5
Didn’t like this hotel. The location creates a problem
- 5/5
- 5/5
Excellent
- 4/5
Small, but clean rooms. Convenient subway access, but otherwise located on a barren, noisy corner at the intersection of the SoHo, Chinatown and Little Italy neighborhoods.
- 4/5
It was in a good location for me and it was quiet
