Great location and a nice size room for the $. Staff was accommodating, friendly & professional. Bartender was a doll. On our second night we realized the TV did not work. They offered to have someone come up, but it was late. No big deal…

Windows and balcony were outstanding while the location offered everything within a minutes walk. Broken/missing window shade should have been better thought out before it was even installed.

Room is nice size with big windows that let in a lot of light. Beds are firm and clean. The bathroom is all black and the lighting is poor. Could use better vanity lighting. No coffee maker nor water is offered. If you want complimentary coffee you have to go down to the lobby in the morning. Overall, not worth the price that we were charged.

Great location and the rooms were spacious, clean, and comfortable. The only downsides were the poor bathroom lighting and the lack of convenient power outlets, which made charging devices a bit difficult. It would also be helpful to have a second area to get ready, such as a vanity outside of the bathroom.

At check in a credit was given toward breakfast or the bar. I ordered a celebration bottle of wine from the bar and at check out was told it was not part of the bar credit and was being charged. I hadn’t opened the wine so I had to surrender it to avoid a room charge and thus lost use of my credit. This was embarrassing for my me and my guest. Very confusing and unprofessional

Details: On top of the rooms being at the end of their natural life, the bathtub and shower valves did not seem to work properly in our room. We could not get any cold water, so the water was just crazy hot. I did take a way too hot bath the first night (after letting it cool for a bit) because it was too late to call for assistance (I was too tired). The next day, my husband found the same issue with the shower, which made our request all the more helpful. After the engineer showed us that you need to use your entire body weight and strength to get the cold water to work, we were able to shower and use the bathtub. The front desk brought us a bottle of wine up to the room to apologize. They had also helped us get an earlier check-in time so my husband could be settled for his 4 pm meeting on our first day, AND they remembered our names when we came and went. Truly exceptional service. I am hoping the bar downstairs will have decaf coffee in the future as they get settled. I was disappointed that they did not have this in the evening nor an espresso machine to make decaf espresso.

I based this review solely on the staff it would be 5+++. They are all exemplary, kind, caring, competent, efficient. Great location, big rooms, plentiful bottled water, good mattress and pillows, fast wifi Unfortunately our room did not allow for a good night's sleep which made the hotel a pretty bad experience for us. We stayed in room 1902 which has a window which lets in outside light 24/7. There is no curtain or any way to cover it so as soon as the sun comes up (about 6am) the room is flooded with light and the lights from the city light up the room all night. There was not another room in the 'same category' available and maintenance could do nothing to cover the window. The room is configured with the bed against the wall adjacent to the next door shower. When our neighbor showered it was so loud right next to our heads that it felt like it was in the room. The first few days it was not a big problem but we had to extend and couldn't move rooms due to an injury and the people who checked in later showered 5-6 times a day and all night long. Last night they woke us with a 1:00am shower that lasted 1/2 hour. By 2:45am they were back in the shower for another 20 minutes. Then at 9:00am another 1/2 hour shower with singing. It was relentless. It is not the fault of the compulsive shower guests it is the fault of the hotel having such an intrusive poorly considered layout and no soundproofing. We also had sheets that did not cover the mattress pad one night and had to remake the bed ourselves to cover the whole bed and the next night noticed (what looked like blood) stains on the clean sheets they had just put on. Would not stay again due to our exhaustion after 8 days of poor interrupted sleep. So many other good options at this price point.

Everyone at the front desk was very nice. The rooms look nothing like the pictures. We had several friends all staying here for the weekend and all our rooms were the same. No coffee machine, no robe, no slippers, no iron or ironing board in the rooms. My shower had a steam feature that did not work and the wall heater was jutting out from the wall. There were holes where I’m assuming art used to be and all the furniture is in rough shape. Also the current art in the walls are these creepy portraits that look like they were done on an old smart phone cause they’re blurry/pixelated. Finally coffee is available early in the morning but they remove it by 10 am so you’re SOL if you want some coffee to get your day going.

The person manning the registration desk on 4/20 10:30am was not professional. When i asked whether someone has found a wool hat that i lost on 4/19. I asked whether there is a lost and found. He brushed us off, saying he does not have access, saying we have to wait for him to write an email to his superior about lost and found. This is ridiculous. I have to insist that we are checking out, i can’t believe that such a simple ask is so hard for him. After 15 mns he talked to somebody, then opened a drawer on his desk, then got an envelope and pulled out my hat. It could have been done much faster. The lost and found drawer is right next to him !,,

The hotel is located on the Lower East Side--a very dynamic place with lots of restaurants, amenities, and history. On a very warm night, not only did the HVAC break down, but also the room heated up to the high 80s. The staff was very apologetic and partially refunded our payment and gave us a free breakfast. Nonetheless, we didn't sleep well.

The room and the view were absolutely stunning I honestly took my time just admiring every detail. The aesthetic of the hotel is everything, and the overall vibe felt warm, intentional, and luxurious. Check-in was seamless, and the hospitality truly stood out. I want to make a special shoutout to Dery and Kathy (with a K!) for being so kind and welcoming they truly made my experience even more memorable. I did have a small clumsy moment where my luggage tipped over and broke a wine glass, but the team was incredibly kind and understanding about it, which I really appreciated. Overall, such an amazing experience. I would definitely stay here again and highly recommend it to anyone looking for a special, elevated stay. I would be back !! That I eventually had to leave.

The staff was absolutely amazing. Everyone was so welcoming and helpful. Wine social was nice. I didn’t eat breakfast there so my room credit went to waste. I would have preferred money off my stay. My toilet ran and clogged up. Unfortunately some in an adjacent room decided to play loud music and smoke in their room. The hotel staff was helpful by giving me ear plugs and sprayed deodorizer in the room. The housekeeping cane so late everyday. One time my room was not cleaned until 5 pm.

This hotel is perfectly located in the heart of the Lower East Side, with tons of great restaurants and bars just a short walk away, Katz’s is literally right down the street. The subway is also just a quick 2–3 minute walk, making it super easy to get around the city. The staff was incredibly friendly and welcoming, which made our stay even better. Our room was spacious, comfortable, and had amazing city views, plus a balcony that really elevated the experience. We’ll definitely be staying here again the next time we’re in New York!

I checked in fine, but I had to pay for a few hours of extra checkout time, though I felt that the hotel owed me (see more below). TWICE the room service put the wrong sheets in my bed (they put in comforter covers instead of king-size sheets). They did it once, but then did it again after having been told NOT to do it. After that, I kept the room private for the remaining 5 days of my stay, because I would NOT take that chance again. Also, the smoke detector malfunctioned/broke down, emitting a loud chirp in the middle of the night for no valid reason, waking me up and disrupting my sleep. I was not offered any extras (like the additional checkout time that I requested) to make up for my troubles. Also, the hangers for my clothes were too few, cheap and half broken, and the closet was cramped and insufficiently spaced. I will not go to this hotel again, not will I recommend it.

The design/aesthetic Clerk charged me and additional 100 dollars at check in. I’ve been traveling for years and I understand if’s at the discretion of the employee. I felt pre judged. I asked another guest if they were charged and in fact they were not.

Hotel is still under renovations and unfortunately our room had a really old and very stained carpet which took away from the overall experience. We had two rooms for the party of 5 and the other room was already renovated with new floor. Staff were amazing, very accommodating, and pleasant. The view from the room was great and the location is excellent. Once the renovations are completed, this will be a true gem to stay in and enjoy Manhattan.

The lobby is lovely, but our room looked dated and was really poorly lit. A member of the housekeeping staff left our door open, which was disturbing and scary, especially as they didn’t do a very good job cleaning it anyway. No one at the front desk told us the restaurant had breakfast (maybe it’s because it cost $29 for basically a bagel and coffee). Plenty of shops, bars and eateries in the area. Keep in mind the hotel is in the lower east side, so it’s not the easiest to get to midtown, Times Square, etc. The bar is closed Sunday and Monday, but they have a wine hour in the lobby, which is nice, as is the coffee in the morning. Overall, kind of a letdown, I suppose.

This is a really poor conversion to a hotel. Everything in the room is cheap. The bed feels like one of those $400 online order ones, the couches are ugly and small and the tvs appear to be the cheapest they could find. Very disappointed.

    2. We arrived very late (midnight) due to a long flight delay when we got up to the room the thermostat read 55 degrees - it was a cold night as it took the room a long time to heat up AND there were no extra blankets or pillows in the room. 3. We might have asked for some blankets but the gentleman at the front desk at midnight was not personable and should not be in hospitality. He spoke very softly, spoke like he was reading a script and didn't seem interested in us at all. Never greeted us when we came in the door, which he had to unlock (by buzzer) to let us in at that hour. Never greeted us or made us feel welcome. Rather made us feel like a bother. 4. The next morning my wife went to use the bathroom faucet and it leaked everywhere, all over the bathroom. To there credit staff came up and fixed it, BUT they did not mop up the mess, we had to use towels ourselves. 5. We also asked them to take a look at the water pressure in the shower because it was so bad, we thought it too was broken. they said they addressed it and initially, after they left it seemed better. But the next two mornings were terrible. No pressure. Cold water. 6. The front desk told us we had a $30 credit bot Fri and Sat night at their bar. Great! BUT the bar was only open from 5 pm to 10 pm! How are you going to take advantage of that when we had comedy club tickets and show tickets each night! So much

Room was dirty. Floors were covered in literally trash. This has been my favorite hotel forever and it was a very disappointing experience. I asked the front desk if I could change rooms and had to wait in the lobby for over an hour before the managers finished a meeting and the staff was unable to reach the management. I even emailed the property weeks in advance to make sure I had a good room for a special occasion and still had this issue. I was about to kiss my dinner reservation and was unable to wait for management any longer so I booked another hotel and asked for a refund. The manager didn’t come out for an hour to address the situation and by the time she did my other hotel was already booked and I was already getting into a taxi. This is not the hotel rivington I knew and loved. So disappointed

The hotel is in need of some repairs. Seems like there maybe hasn’t been any upkeep to it. Our bathroom window would not close properly, bathroom door would stick on floor when trying to open/close. It looks like they have painted multiple layers over doors and latches to hide things. Window seals and floor around bathtub were dirty, seems like they have only been hitting the high spots during cleaning.

There was only one bathrobe provided despite there being two of us, but when we requested hot water, a kettle and cups were promptly delivered, which was appreciated. The front desk staff were friendly and helpful throughout our stay. It’s evident that parts of the hotel have been updated while others haven’t, so the quality feels a bit inconsistent. We didn’t try the breakfast—$29 for a continental buffet seemed steep, and there only appeared to be black coffee available (no lattes or cappuccinos), though complimentary coffee is offered in the lobby each morning, which is a nice touch. The location is excellent—just a couple of minutes’ walk to the subway with plenty of great cafés and restaurants nearby. We especially recommend Caffe Vita around the corner. Overall, a convenient and comfortable base for a couple of nights, even if it lacks a bit of atmosphere or character.

I've been staying here for 3 years now whenever I'm in town for short stays. I really love the welcoming vibe; the front desk staff is always so kind and helpful. My only ding is that some of the rooms (lower floors?) are kind of run down and I've been hearing about their "renovation in progress" for all 3 years I've been coming here. The decor is kind of "1995 bachelor pad" but the beds and linens are top-notch and there's wine in the lobby from 5 to 7 pm. Overall, a lovely respite in a kind of janky, chaotic part of town.

The hotel has been nicely renovated. The only thing missing was an à la carte breakfast option or at least good coffee. They only offered a buffet with pastries and cold cuts. It would be great if they could serve quality coffee and simple breakfast options like eggs for vegetarians. There aren’t many places open early for breakfast in the LES—just coffee spots with croissants or muffins.

I’ve stayed here before and really liked the room, however this time the AC was not working properly. The hotel sent an “engineer” who basically just looked at it and said there was nothing wrong with it when clearly it wasn’t cooling. Half an hour later we had to call back and ask them to just bring a fan as it wouldn’t cool past 75. Also all the furniture and bed is very low. For a king size room there was only one nightstand and no outlets close to bed to plug the fan in.

Not very private, no sheer curtains, you have to close ugly brown curtains so people can’t see in. Over all dated and needs a refresh. We moved to a different room higher up for privacy the front desk informed me they are remodeling lower floors first. I’d come back but only after they remodel. Did not take make photos just the windows sorry!

The staff is extremely hospitable & the room size is generous which makes up for the shabbiness of the property. We stayed 10 days and only one elevator functioning the entire time. Midway through the stay elevator would not stop on our floor. We were relocated to a room that did not have as nice of a view. The bathroom is black tile, but a portion was repaired with white grout. The property does not merit a resort fee, nor being classed as Small Luxury Hotel by Hilton.

The rooms are dated; missing baseboards, lights not working. My major complaint is that the heat didn't work, and it was cold. The hotel staff was great and they waived the additional fee, because the heat not working. I won't stay here again even at the low cost for the area.

The property is under renovation, we had to change rooms 3x due to noise or cold air coming through the windows… no restaurants were open.. only the freezing lobby for warm coffee in the mornings… the rooms do not have coffee makers… the fridges were almost warm. Until this place is completed which they said think 2 years I wouldn’t bother staying.. they charge for a 4 star and with only 1 elevator and everything else… I would stay elsewhere. On the positive the staff was very sweet and did their best to help everyone …

The scaffold in front of the hotel made it look bad. Also, there was only one elevator working and it was very small. I’ve read reviews in the past saying it was only one elevator and that was months ago. They need to fix that. Also the hallway is a little dark and the red carpet makes it look prostitute-ish. The toilet wasn’t flushing properly. The two young ladies at the front desk seemed decent, no complaints about the staff. I wouldn’t stay here again. I would stay at another hotel maybe in Times Square that has lounges and rooftop bars in them. Also the balcony was locked. The hotel just didn’t seem fresh. It was clean but not fresh.

Location is great (if you want LES activities and walkability), but the pot smell in the building was pretty intense and unpleasant. It is great to stay on the LES but the hotel has seen better days. Our room well sized for the area but showed wear and tear. A light switch did not work. WIFI was spotty. Some staff members were knowledgeable and helpful, others less attentive. For example, our key cards stopped working daily until one staff member changed the setting so that our key card would be valid to the end of our stay.

We had a great stay at the hotel on Rivington. Close to our daughter's apartment in the LES and tons of restaurants and bars. Area is lively with young people but also pretty dirty. There is no area to be dropped off in front of the hotel so that is a little inconvenient. They are renovating and the lobby, restaurant and bar are great! Our room was large with 2 double beds, a couch, desk and coffee table. The best thing is the view - floor to ceiling windows we just spent our time gazing out at the view. There are some rough things like one elevator, the carpet in the room is pretty dingy by the door and should be replace and our bathroom door handle was broken. But everyone was very nice here and the service was great. We will be back and can't wait to see how the renovations go!

Our stay at the Hotel on Rivington was good despite a few cons we had to experience. The hotel only had one tiny elevator that was not working during our check-in, so we had to wait to use it and go upstairs. The onsite manager was nice about it and sent us a bottle of wine for the inconvenience. The same night we arrived the AC was not working and we didn't know until we slept an entire night sweating. We called front desk and they sent someone to come fix it. Our window also was difficult to close so I called the front desk around 11pm to have someone come close it and no one arrived. Despite all of this the room was very clean, bed was huge and super comfy and my best friend who we were celebrating had a great experience!

Hotel needs to be renovated. The beds are absolutely awful and the man at the front desk even agreed and told me they are very old beds. Also, the hallway had no lights and felt very dangerous walking in the dark From the elevator to the room, the elevator inside looks like something from a prison and pretty much everything besides, the lobby in the new restaurant looks very outdated. We also had an opened window that we had to figure out how to crank shut. The pictures are very misleading as this has not been renovated.

the location of this hotel is amazing: right in the thick of the lower east side. the staff were super welcoming and personable. when i requested the "quietest room" they delivered (note: the hotel is only a block away from two major streets, bring your ear plugs). the new restaurant in the lobby is AMAZING modern japanese, the staff there super knowledgeable and the food yummy. the only real downside is the condition of the building: this place is about 20 years past a total renovation. from the walls to the windows, every inch needs to be gutted and replaced. what was once a modern building is now a sad, old and shabby one. it saddens me to see the current state. the roof top is closed, the gym doesn't have one machine that works, the infrastructure is in shambles. if you are concerned with cleanliness, this is probably not the hotel for you: not one of the pieces of art, the closets, the windows or walls has been cleaned in ages. other than that, we totally enjoyed our stay!!

A great little hotel hidden by scaffolding and flanked by the ubiquitous NYC rats. Don’t let the exterior stop you from booking. It’s cute as a button inside with friendly and attentive staff that’s eager to help you. The room was spacious and the view was excellent. The only negative about the property are the beds which are futon style mattresses on a platform which are very short (I’m 5’6’) and have no inner spring so they aren’t supportive. The fabulous water pressure was a welcome treat. Excellent storage in the room which was a bonus.

Very nice hotel overall. The view from the 16th floor was spectacular. The bed was very comfortable and the room had enough space. Front desk staff was very helpful and friendly. But the response time when something was ordered to the room was not prompt enough. No coffee at the hotel but there are enough coffee shops close by. This hotel is under a lot of construction at the moment so there is no lobby or ambiance of any sort. The hotel rooms are very dated (hardly any outlets no USBs, phone doesn’t work) but spacious which is rarity in nyc. Service a little bit or miss as the phones didn’t work in the room, housekeeping still rap on the door when it says do not disturb, and they don’t let delivery folks up to drop off things at your room or bring them up themselves. The wifi is problematically slow to the point where I couldn’t do meetings from my computer. The staff at the front desk was very nice though.

Friendly staff, but otherwise not recommended. Very desirable location on the LES, which is likely why they feel like they can charge these rates. But the interior was thrown together as cheaply as possible in an attempt to look trendy. Exposed drywall in the room; walls with cheap paint that's covered in spots, marks, and handprints; dirt and dust in the hallways and elevator; cheaply made light switches that don't work; outlets in weird locations and missing in convenient ones. Construction may be sound but appearance is slapdash, doesn't feel clean, and reflects no pride of ownership. Will not stay ever again.

The neighborhood is eclectic and artsy… we found good food and shopping near the hotel. The hotel is also opening up an upscale Japanese restaurant in its hotel, keep an eye out for the end of April, from what their manager noted. No other hotel staff in NYC will give you the same kind Of care and attention than the Rivington staff!! For Travel Reference: We flew into Newark and took the train to Penn Station and it cost about 20 dollars each person. On our way back home we took an Uber and it was about 100 dollars on a Monday. Hope this helps!!!

The staff was friendly and helpful, but were unwilling to give us a different room or a refund stating that they've tried to work with Expedia to update their pictures and make it clear that not all rooms are afforded the view represented on the website. They did waive their facility fee of $35 per day for use of the gym, lounge (help yourself coffe/tea and a few couches overlooking the view we did not get) and wifi. Those amenities should be included in the price. It was nice of them, but it did not compensate us for the disappointing stay.

Overall the hotel felt like it is in need of many repairs. The rooftop lounge has an amazing view but is not really staffed most of the day. Hotel on Rivington is one of the few tall buildings in the lower east side so the views are pretty spectacular. We had a quarter room and I was impressed with how spacious it was for a New York hotel room. The LES has some incredible bars, restaurants clubs, etc. and especially on the weekend, the sounds of revelry can be noisy for those not used to living in an urban city. If you need absolute quiet, i would recommend picking up earplugs. There’s even a 20th floor event space, lounge space that is available to all guests where they serve coffee in the morning and wine in the evening. Overall, great stay, great views, great time in NYC.

Staff was courteous and helpful. Super nice and fixed a window issue immediately. In all, I think the hotel was priced fairly for NYC, except for the ridiculous “resort fee,” which I know is standard many times now but here really just means coffee on the top floor (no coffee in room) and a gym.

The Lower East Side is a great corner of NYC to visit and the Hotel in Rivington is an ideal place to base yourself. Although the hotel’s facilities are pretty basic, the room was huge for a city hotel and very comfortable. The wine happy hour is a nice touch, especially up on the 20th floor even if the space is barren of atmosphere. The amazing thing is how good of a deal the hotel is. Stay here and you’ll have a lot more money to enjoy a great restaurant.

This is my go-to hotel in New York. It’s good value for money, great location and the beds are very comfortable. The only disappointment this time was that the hotel was under construction so the lobby and restaurant were closed. The bathroom this time was also poorly lit and there was no mirror in the sleeping area. Despite this I would still stay there.

Great location, excellent for a quick overnight stay. The hotel is undergoing a long due renovation. Depending on what floor your room is located on the room may be tired and in poor shape. We had to complain about the first room they put us in on the 4th floor. The staff quickly upgraded us to a room on the 16th floor with a spectacular 180 degree view of the city.

The hotel was very outdated . The room was not like they have in the pictures . Room was dirty , broken furnitures . The walls were cracked , paint peeling . Noise coming heater , and other mechanics kept me awake all night . Plus the walls are very thin can hear everything the other rooms . I have never been so disappointed in a booking .

In the sheets had stains, cracks in the walls and outlets, bathroom vents full of dirt & dust. Lastly, I booked the room 2 days before checking in and noticed they lowered the price on all the channels. Since they wouldn’t let me leave without charging me after discovering the terrible condition of the room, I asked to at least honor the rate ($200 lower) they were charging for the day…of course they refused that as well. There are plenty of better options in the area, don’t waste your money with this place until they renovate.
