Reviews
The hotel is generally well-liked for its convenient location near Times Square and other attractions, as well as its affordable price. Guests appreciate the helpful staff and the availability of a small kitchen in the room. However, some common complaints include the lack of daily cleaning service, no elevator, and issues with the air conditioning and shower water pressure.

The hotel was well located. Mishel is a very nice owner and pay attention to the comfort. Bed is confortable. Kitchen is fonctionnal. We were at the 1st floor, close to the main entry and so we can here all the people using the front door, so a bit noisy… A room upstairs will have be great but it was fully booked

Enjoyed my stay. Clean room, all fine. My 'even better if' is asking the hotel to see if the very loud buzzer that goes every time anyone enters the building could be quieter. It woke me numerous times early morning and late at night.

This is a great place to stay. It’s a short walk (10-15 minutes) to the pier, Times Square. A bit further to Central Park. Lots of deli’s, food shops and cafes within walking distance.

very nice location, miguel was exceptionally kind and had a very cute dog from time to time, kitchen came fully stocked with equipment but it was rather small, not an issue tho! the front door buzz opening noise is So loud, and because people come in at different times you will hear it periodically.. a family was also screaming at the top of their lungs, at 8am.. that wasn’t great. but that’s not a fault of the property. the shower is inverted so we spent a bit just showering in freezing cold water to only find out a day before departure it was inverted

As a last-minute accommodation since I had to travel to NY in a pinch, the hotel was adequate particularly for the price, but I would recommend other places that are better in terms of location & true value. The location is on the outskirts of Hell’s Kitchen so it’s not exactly convenient to shops, restaurants, & the theatre, unless you don’t mind the 15-20 minute walk to get to anywhere. The place is also not clean or well maintained. The manager is also not very friendly, accommodating, or available on-site - though the resident dog is quite adorable.

This is one of the thousands of low-frills hotels in the city, and largely reached that bar. It's a walk-up, a couple of long blocks from the Subway, so it requires walking. The room was clean and comfortable, with bed, desk, kitchenette, and bathroom. If you're shopipng on price, and ready to accept the parameters of the place, it serves well. My main complaint is that the mini-fridge wasn't running when I got there. This shouldn't have been a problem, but I didn't realize it until a day and a half later, when half of the food I brought with me had spoiled. Now, it's partly on me for not thinking to check... I simply saw the fridge, stuck my food in it, and went along my way... but it's jarring to be provided a fridge that isn't running, and there was no prompt. A sign on it saying "Please leave the fridge off when not in use" would have gotten me thinking about that and checking it (and in fact, I like that they don't run a fridge in every room, every day... but again, it missed that step of warning customers about the setup). A second, smaller complaint is that the bathroom fan didn't work. The bathrooms are set on the interior, with no windows, and it got musty smelling.

They do not have a handicap accessible room due to the workers living in that room. I called 6 months prior for a room on the first floor and was told they were full. Came in one night with a couple checking in and they were given a first floor room. The response when questioned was it was already reserved. In general if you want just a place to sleep and showe this works they just don't clean your room or empty trash during your stay

Great location with easy access to local eateries and a short walk to times square. The condition of the room was outdated, with old water stains and a hard bed. Room was small so we were glad we packed light. The airconditioner was a life saver at the end of a long hot day.

For the price and location it's a great option to visit NYC. Rooms are small but really, what do you need besides a shower and place to crash? Who wants to spend their time in NYC in a hotel room? Staff were friendly and helpful, hallway noise was present at times but not bad. Kitchenette meant we saved money on breakfast if we wanted and had a place to store leftovers from dinner. It's near great restaurants, theater district and bars. If you're a homophobic jerk find another neighborhood though this one is filled with beautiful, friendly LGBTQ folx!

It was limited on amenities and usually no one at front desk. It was perfect for our long weekend though. No issues! Very quiet and safe. The hotel was clean. If you are looking for a reasonably priced hotel that you plan to not spend much time in then this is the place for you. I would totally recommend!

I walked into this hotel, got our room and walked right out and found a new one. The hotel was absolutely disgusting, stains on the sheets, the cover, and the comforter was ripped. There were wires hanging from the ceiling. Used amenities from previous stayers were in the bathroom and the “kitchen.” Plus the door doesn’t work you have to call to be let in. In a scary part of the city, too.

Room was pretty spacious. They didn’t clean the trash out from previous people under the sink in the kitchenette. Also they didn’t clean our room once so we had to use the same towels everyday and they didn’t have any extra toilet paper or anything under the sink. It was fine especially if you’re just sleeping at the hotel and out and about doing stuff all day. AC was great.

Wow, it looked as clean as the photos showed! For a small space, they made efficient use of it: there was a closet with many compartments built into one of the walls, plus a small table and chair. I was impressed with the kitchenette, which was equipped with a sink, stove, mini-fridge, microwave and utensils. One downside was the lack of elevators; this might turn off guests who have knee problems or other physical disabilities. The surrounding area is relatively quiet for New York, but you could hear a few people playing music in the streets at night (I didn't mind as I always bring earplugs on trips). The owners were very easy to reach; I think they might live on the property and respond quickly to phone calls. There is a Starbucks and bus stop within walking distance.

The only thing I had to ask for soap and shampoo, the water in the shower was very minimal. The hotel manager was very attentive and fast for our needs. I would definitely come back and refer friends and family to this Hotel.

The only positive is that the sheets were clean when we arrived and they did provide fresh towels everyday (of varying quality, we did have a tea towel one day). This is not a hotel, in that there is no service (they don’t clean, make your bed, replenish your loo roll, help carry luggage up 3 flights of stairs etc) but it also cannot be classed as self catering as there is NO WAY you would ever want to prepare food in there. As I said location is good, close to Times Square and some nice places to eat, WiFi was excellent too. If they actually hired a cleaner I am sure they would make more money as people would be more likely to stay here! I have to say, if I’d read these reviews before staying I would have cancelled. Nothing can prepare you for the filth in this place.

I would have loved the place if it was cleaner. There were flies in the bathroom and small trash like wrappers in the corner. The amenities were good but the flies really turned me off. The area in pretty loud but I’m used to that. Bed was pretty hard too. Not great but could have been a lot better if my room was cleaner.

Location was good for sightseeing. Room was clean but look tired (needs refreshing). Having a safe in the room was good. Self catering facilities was ok, but there no kettle. There was washing up facilities, but no tea towels. The shower was okay, but it didn't get that hot and you had to run it for several minutes to get warm. There was a table, but only one chair for two people. The air conditioning was quite old and noisey. The room wasn't very sound proof from any internal noise. Some of the other guest and the person on reception was quiet noisey at times.

Torn sheets , extremely musty smelling room with bars on the windows, looked like a room that would be rented by the hour for hookers. Hair , yellow stained pillows , no manager to fix situation. They would not switch rooms due to fill occupancy. Or refund us. We left and disputed with credit card company. Do yourself a favor and avoid this hotel completely. Unless you’re looking for a room to rent by the hour.

This hotel seems to have variety of reviews, but my visit was quite good. The room was clean and seems to have been updated over what some of the reviews have described. It's an economy hotel, so you don't get luxurious towels and bedding or a great bed, but they were all quite adequate and above average for other economy hotels where I've stayed. The cable TV is way above average and has a broad range of stations, but you have to go through all the levels, into the 300's and 400's to find some of them. Golf Channel, for instance, is 405 and took some time to find. The wifi is also above average and quite fast for a hotel. The kitchenette was a plus with the refrigerator and microwave. They could upgrade the air conditioner which struggled to keep the room in the mid 70s even though I had it set at 65. But New York was really hot most of the time I was there. The front desk was manned most of the time I was there and the people were friendly. I did receive basic housekeeping service every day--new towels, cleaned the shower and sink, made the bed. The neighborhood is nice and location is convenient to many tourist-business needs. I would stay here again.

The location was brilliant and only 3 or so blocks away from Times Square which was great, the area had a few homeless around the area at night but there are several bars nearby which keep the area busy enough at night to keep you feeling safe! There is also a brilliant little shop at the end of the road open 24/7 called the market place or similar!

It is as stated. No gimmicks. Accommodated our early check in. Staff were at the desk throughout the day. Cleaned the room and changed towels daily. Secured building. Free wifi. Great location. Laundry facility at the end of the street. Bed wasn’t comfortable at all, but aside from that it was a wonderful place to stay. There was a safe in the room as well.

It was ok to serve its purpose, but wouldn’t stay here again. Room was very small, beds uncomfortable! This hotel looks like it was converted from an apartment building. When you walk in the narrow glass door you are faced with a steep staircase. I believe that there are 5 rooms on each of 3 floors. I selected this hotel for the room sizes and the proximity to the Jacob K. Javitz Conference Center which is a 15 minute walk away. The spacious room was very clean and offered a microwave, cooktop, and refrigerator.

The room was good enough, great bathroom, and really nice bed! The location was perfect! but the service.... nothing... the first day we got clean towels but the bed was not made. Then we asked "do you usually do the bed for your guests?" and the guy said "sometimes people don't like that, but we can do it if you like". Weird. Then we started getting clean towels every day and the bed done, but not cleaning service at all. The bathroom started to get dirty but no one cleaned it, and there weren't any tools to clean it. The same with the room itself. Then the shower got clogged, we asked for a solution but nothing happened. There was a lot of cooked-fish smell in the first and second floor (we were on the third one). No elevator (3 floors) and no front desk, you get a password to enter in a panel that is outside the building. So in summary, excelente location, good room, good infrastructure, but no service at all.

The location was great, and it felt secure. The housekeeping wasn't full-service, however. During our 6-day stay they did not vacuum the floors or clean the bathroom; they only made the bed and replaced the towels daily.

Convenient location to be near Circle Line and Times Square, but hotel has almost non-existent staff and reception. After checking in, saw no one, and no one responded to our note regarding non-working TV operation. Also first night bath towels were missing. Bed was comfortable and clean, but no elevator and walk up to third floor difficult if guest has heavy suitcases. No breakfast.

The place misadvertised and said that they have access to parking. When we arrived st night the staff at the desk said there is none and he doesn’t know what the office told me on the phone but he doesn’t care and just want us to give us our passport so he can check us in and go to bed. (That’s literally what he said). So we had to circle around the blocks and asked 4 places before finding parking. The hotel is small and the air conditioning does not work very well.... there is minimal service and even when we asked for an extra pillow it’s not available. Garbage can is not emptied each day. Cups in the cupboard was not clean and full of coffee grounds. Very disappointing stay even though the location is good and price is relatively cheap for NYC

Our room was on the ground floor directly opposite the entrance, although there is a good lock on the door, we could not avoid hearing the movement of guests coming and going with a simple 4 digit code for access and often this door was open during the day. Fresh towels were changed each day and the staff were polite and helpful but sparse and there was no other housekeeping done in our room during our stay.

Great location! Staff can sometimes be unfriendly and no 24hr service at the desk. Felt like a safe neighbourhood even at night and very close walking distance to times square, subways, restaurants and bars.

We had a ground floor room with a really noisy AC. And the room was not very clean at all. But there is a really good bakery just around the corner and the hotel has a pretty good location.

I think this property is overpriced for what they offer, next to it you will find two different hotels from known chains, and in which for 30-40 bucks more, you will get much better accommodations and amenities, in the same location, which by the way is not bad because is close to midtown, but not great because the neighborhood specially the surrounding streets are dirtier than other areas, and because the closest subway station is rather far about 10 min. walking from there. In general, pros are the cleanliness of the room and service from the attendant, and cons the size of the room, lack of services and amenities of the property, distance from closest subway station, and price. Next time I'll spend $20 extra in another place and I'll make sure is a real hotel.

The hotel was in good shape. My stay was good but a couple of things could of been a little more better like the size of the room cause the room doesn’t look nothing like the pictures that they display for you to look at! You might as well say I was sleeping on the floor the bed was so low and the one matress they had on the bed was hard and uncomfortable the best thing about the room was the bathroom.

Room was a bit narrow and the bed was rock hard. The kitchenette was useful and the bathroom update was nice. The bathroom needed a more thorough cleaning though. It was unusual to see only one employee (none at times) at the front desk. Location was on a quiet street, but a short walk to entertainment.

This is not a fancy hotel. It is a basic hotel, no amenities at all. Which is what I want. The rooms are very modern and clean. Each room has a refrigerator, cooker, microwave, kitchen sink, and plates and silver. The Bathroom is thoroughly updated and clean. Great large screen TV. There is a great market on the corner of W48 and 10th (Westfield) in which you can find all you need to stuff your fridge. The clerk is very friendly, and the hotel while on a quiet street, is mere blocks from the hustle and bustle of Times Square and all the subways. I've been there four times now since last September, just to get out of DC for a few days. If you are looking for a romantic getaway this is NOT your place. If you just need a clean place to sleep at night, then this is for you. I cannot say enough about this place. Do not let the outside scare you off, it is really a wonderful place to base yourself when visiting Manhattan. And no hidden "resort fees".

I think they got rid of the cleaning staff. The man that checked me in "cleaned" the room. The hall rugs were never vacuumed the 3 nights I stayed. And my no smoking room was smoked in and they never washed the blankets or cleaned the smell. The in wall heater I think needed the filter cleaned because that smelled really bad. I slept with the window open and was out of my room early morning until late night. I've stayed here many times but it's just gotten worse.

It's situated about twenty minutes each from Times Square and Central Park, and ten minutes from the subway. No on-site dining, but there's about a dozen places within five minutes you can get food. Really liked the neighbourhood we were in. There's little things that aren't quite there; whoever cleans could be more thorough (it's not obvious, but you do notice) and bizarrely, our remote control was missing its battery cover. But for what it is and where it is, I think it was great value. If you're expecting full service, this isn't it, but if you like your own space and you're travelling on a budget, you can't really ask for better.

Greeted by friendly helpful staff. Room was clean and welcoming. Kitchenette was ideal for breakfast before going out for the day. Shower was not very powerful but did its job. Towels changed daily although beds never made or changed but not an issue as only there for 5 nights. Staff very friendly and helpful. Room to keep bags in when checked-out and shower and toilet facilities available. Lovely little hotel in quiet area and great location. Would definitely stay again.

Housekeeping very incompetent. There's no effort to clean up the room when I was out. Floor mat provided was old and torn. I brought my own towel (luckily I did, as the towels provided were thin and dirty) and Housekeeping cleared them away thinking that they were theirs. Very upset about this. Bed was old and not very comfortable. Plus the bedsheets were dirty and thin. Overall it was neither a pleasant or worthwhile place to stay in New York.

Stayed at Hotel Five44 for a weekend theater trip to NYC. Conveniently located to the Theater District, Times Square, and HK area. Bed was reasonably comfortable and room was clean. No frills, but good for an inexpensive stay. The one drawback was that the area was pretty noisy. Sirens and loud voices on the street were pretty loud. Rooms were equipped with a kitchenette (fridge, cooktop, microwave) and although I didn't use them, it was a nice convenience that could set this place apart from others if you wanted to prepare food in your room. Steep staircases so not a good place for people who can't do stairs well. All in all, it was a good stay and I would return if the price was right.

The room was small but comfortable, the man at the desk helped with our suitcases. The hotel was quiet from street noise, as long as the other guests didn't decide to have a loud phone conversation in the hallway after midnight. The mini kitchen next to the bed was good, especially having the good sized fridge. The bathroom got a bit stuffy, the shower was fairly weak but the cherry body wash made up for that. It's a 15 minute walk from the nearest metro stop, but also a 15 minute walk from times square. Has a few good little 14 hour shops around it That's sell fruit and other healthy foods we were missing.

My wife and kids refused to use the room facilities and we slept in our clothes. We asked Expedia if we could leave and instead they got them to clean the room which reduced the smell of urine from overpowering to a mild odour and cleaned up about 60% of the sticky floor, changed the sheets, unfortunately none of the cutlery, crockery or electrical items were cleaned but this was sufficient for us to use the bathroom and sleep in our bed garments without fear. This hotel is run down, under poor management and the do not have the customer service ethos or professionalism to operate at a 3 star level On arriving its easy to miss the entrance as its a doorway between the Comfort hotel and the Holiday Inn. Essentially its a number of apartments in a very rundown building. There is no way you can ever validate staying here just to save 10% on staying at a branded hotel. You will regret your decision and it will ruin your holiday. Please learn from our misfortune

No lift. Things like "TV set didn't work", toilet roll holder spun about ("Exorcist Style") throwing the roll onto the floor, bed side wall mounted lamp broken but "fixed" clear package sealing tape - which still didn't work! Coffee machine in the room but no coffee or filters. Or sugar. Kitchenette has microwave, hotplate and pots, pans and crockery/cutlery. Missing were a can opener, dish washing liquid, scourer and a tea towel - so how can you wash your plates after a meal? Hot water and your bare hands is the ONLY way. Inexcusable oversight. Paper thin bathroom towels. Rubbish still in draws left by previous guests. No one checked during cleaning. Noisy front door buzzer (signifying that the "door is now open" - just a flashing lamp would do) would fire off at all hours when folk returned from their night (or early AM food hunting & gathering) and would shut with a BANG. Good points, there's a shop about 1 block away that was open for food and the basics 24 hours. About 2 blocks away from the Subway. 3 blocks from Broadway etc. On a quiet street. Really at the end of the day, pay a bit more and go to the Holiday Inn Express right next door. This hotel could be a lot better - a few photos on the wall etc. You wouldn't need much to make it quirky and comfortable - the owners seem to choose not to. No 24 hour reception - so coming in "out of hours" might cause some folk problems.

This hotel is in a great location but the physical room was not the best. The bed was fairly uncomfortable, tv didn't work, bathroom was dirty and hauling luggage up 3 floors of stairs wasn't ideal. It's in close proximity to lots of great restaurants/cafes/sites but overall, I'd spend more to be more comfortable in my next NYC stay.

Good area by the port authority and convention center. Room had fridge, stove, and microwave, which was very nice! Very nice hotel. The room was very comfortable and had everything you needed, a little kitchen, very good AC, large bathroom. The local area (Hells Kitchen) although was a few blocks to a subway was great as there was loads of bars and restaurants for on an evening, and was only a few blocks from Times Square. I would definitely recommend this hotel and stay again myself.

Very disappointed with this property, the pictures on the website do not reflect the current condition and quality of the room. The air conditioning sounded like a V8 engine running, and we couldn't sleep with the air on. The cooking element was broken in 3 places, look very unsafe and dirty. No dish washing detergent, cleaning products, no tea towel.. Chewing gum, left on the aircon unit, crockery and cutlery was dirty and stickers from other guests recent purchases still stuck to side of kitchen unit. Stayed 8 nights and linen wasn't changed and had to ask for fresh towels after day four. No lift and the stairs are very narrow and steep. No phone in the room, TV needed resetting regularly by the manager and very limited channels available to view. This is at best a back packers and the sole staff member didn't seem to have any consideration for the guests comfort , speaking in a very loud voice and having the radio blasting from as early as 8am which carried right through the property and into the rooms. Overall a very disappointing experience for first timers to New York.

Hotel itself: Zero amenities. Hard/low to floor bed. No clock. Towels were mismatched and tattered/raggedy. TP holder wouldn't hold TP. Shower handle backwards (hot was cold and cold was hot), toiletries were bulk on shower wall and gross. One lamp was missing a lampshade while one on other side of bed had the shade. AC worked well which was a plus since I was there during heatwave. Hangers were mismatched plastic, some of which came from purchases of clothing. Bathroom never really smelled clean. Fairly quiet considering small size and location though. Wifi and TV worked fine. Nice to have fridge in room.
