Room was spotless, bed very comfortable. Staff was friendly and professional. I did a one night stay and had to leave early in the morning to attend a morning event and staff held my bags until I returned from it even though I had already check out. Area is nice, quieter than Times Square but still in walking distance to different stores and restaurants. I highly recommend.

The hotel staff were very helpful whenever we dealt with them - which wasn’t much as we had no issues to raise :) It is close to lots of the main attractions but not anywhere near as busy as Times Square or theatre district hotel locations, where I have stayed previously and it becomes a hassle when it’s so busy outside your hotel. HGUs location really was one of the best things about our trip and it allowed us to head back to the hotel for a quick rest in the afternoon. There is a subway station at the end of the street, you don’t even have to cross the street to get to one of the entrances! There is a nice coffee shop on the bottom floor which is convenient for grabbing something before heading out for the day. The rooftop was open as it was nice weather, where you get a great view of the Empire State Building. Also we booked early, choosing to pay on arrival, and we got a great deal I thought. Overall, the best compliment I can give is the next time we come to New York we will definitely be looking to stay here again!

Not only are hotels are notorious for such practice of omission, it is also in violation of NYC law. Upon checking in, I politely brought this to the attention of front desk staff, showing the only information from 2021 indicating the $100 hold. They refused to honor that, and denied to check me in.

The room was clean, the bathroom was bright, spacious, and well-maintained, and the bed was very comfortable. The hotel's location also made it easy to get out and enjoy the city. There were a few drawbacks. The room was probably the smallest hotel room we've stayed in during our many trips to New York, we were unable to connect to the Wi-Fi during our stay, and the shower water pressure was unusually low. It also took quite a while for the hot water to come through. Our room's view was essentially a brick wall, and we were a little surprised by the $200 room deposit, as we're more accustomed to seeing deposits around $100 at other hotels. That said, we didn't come to New York to sit in the room. We came to celebrate our anniversary, explore the city, shop, eat good food, and make memories together. The room served its purpose, the bed was comfortable, and we had a wonderful trip overall. 😊🗽❤️

The location was great, a subway station right on the street and a 2-3min walk to Koreatown so a lot of great food options. Only a 12 min walk to grand central. Every staff we met was super welcoming. Really really appreciated the happy bday banner and balloons set up in the room when we arrived even tho I didn’t take any birthday package. This was really special so thank you! Clean room and bathroom although it was small, not that much space to walk around but the bed was huge and super comfy. We definitely enjoyed our stay here and i tried a lot of NYC hotels as I used to go there for weekends when I was living in the US and this one is definitely on top of my list. Not the hotel fault as i had this issue in other hotels but if the room is street side you’ll definetely need some earplugs as it’s a city that never sleeps unless you’re a heavy sleeper + AC makes a little white noise (didnt bother me). I also wish there was more storage but I managed by moving things that were in the “closet” part. Lighting in the room could also be a little more bright

On the first day, housekeeping did not change the sheets until around 4pm, which is far too late in the day for basic room servicing. On the second day, housekeeping did not come at all, the room was not cleaned, the sheets were not changed, and no servicing took place whatsoever. By the third day, at 2pm the room still had not been serviced despite the fact I had already left and returned to the hotel twice, so there was more than enough opportunity for the room to be cleaned. A hotel room should be consistently serviced, clean, and maintained in a timely manner, and unfortunately that standard was not met here. At one point, I even had to clean parts of the room myself because it had become unpleasant. Overall, very disappointing housekeeping standards for what should have been a comfortable stay.

Location, cleanliness, and professionalism of the staff. We had a room close to where I was informed the owner and his kids were staying. The entire stay the kids were very loud and disruptive. The first morning was especially bad because the kids were slamming doors, running and screaming nonstop. I called to front desk and they informed me this has been an ongoing issue for the entire two months the owner and kids were staying there. They sent someone to stop them, but because I could hear it so easily through the walls, we found out there were no adults present in the room the entire time this was occurring. Not the hotel’s fault, the team really did their best to handle the situation. It occurred every night and morning the 3 nights and 4 days we stayed. No change. They were loud till the day we checked out.

I have no idea how this dump gets a 4 star rating. "Shabby" doesn't even come close to describing it (the AC/Heating system in my room was not working and no alternative was offered when I notified them). To top it off, they double charged my Amex for the stay... replete with additional "junk fee" charges. As an extensive traveler for both business and personal trips, I cannot recall a more poorly run establishment. So bad, it's almost comical. Do yourself a favor... stay away! You're better off sleeping in the park.

The location is super convenient. A literal step away from the 6, but also within really acceptable walking distance to everything. And with all that, you are kind of staying in the "quieter" part of Midtown, if there's such a thing? So if you are still trying to get in a quality sleep at night, it seems quite plausible. Beautiful hotel, very courteous staff, the cafe on-site is a big plus. No complaints!

Location was very central and both a short enough walk from Penn Station and had local subway access close by. Bed was really comfortable and the water pressure good in the bathroom. Coffee shop on the ground floor was useful for a quick coffee before walking to my NY office. I was in room 202 which is right on the street - if you aren't good with street noise then ask for a higher room and in the back. I was ok, but it was something that was very noticeable to me at times. Also there was an error on a maintenance request and staff tried to enter my room - I know it was an error, but it bothered me as a solo traveller.

The first room I was given had a broken air conditioner. It said Error01 on it. I called the front desk and they said they would send the engineer to the room. A half an hour later, no one was there so I went down to the front desk and was told that a part was on order for that a/c. It might come in today. I said I wanted another room. They said it was before check in time so they didn't have anything else and I said I would wait (btw, the room was so tiny that there was not room to open the carryon size suitcase except on the bed, and the view from the only window was of a pipe and a brick wall which made the room dark--and hot). I was given another room where the a/c worked and I was happy. It faced the street and let light in. All was good until 6am when I heard very loud sounds that seemed to be garbage trucks. I went to the lobby (because the phone in the room didn't work) and they told me that they were in fact lots of garbage trucks because there is a recycling plant across the street from my room. The sound went on for a long time. I said I wanted to change rooms so I could get some sleep and they said they were booked. I was getting ready to change hotels, but decided to wait until people checked out because they promised me a quiet room. When I got to that room, the a/c also didn't work. The engineer came up and reset it but no luck. I moved again to their "suite". The toilet ran on and on. The engineer came up and changed the flapper, on my suggestion. Terrible!

The only disappointing factor was that the website did not advertise that the bar on site was closed due to remodeling. It would’ve been nice to know that, especially since we were visiting during a cooler time of year and had to walk in order to find a place to have an evening cocktail. Since that bar was closed, maybe they could’ve comped the price of beers in the hotel room bar, instead of charging eight dollars for a beer out of the fridge. Otherwise, it was a very convenient location to a lot of touristy areas, very close to subway station, and not at all in a dangerous part of the city. The room rates were also very decent. Everything was clean, and staff were able to tend to any of our needs. I would definitely stay here again.

Arrived at midnight but there was receptionist on standby waiting for us. Deposit of $200 on credit card - refundable. Room was spacious for two people. Daily room cleaning. Near to korean town i.e good food. Line 6 is just by the corner of the block and bus station easily accesible. 15 minute walk to Penn Station aka Madison Square Garden. No free water in the room. Water dispenser available in the lobby

I stayed five nights on the 32nd street side of the building. In the middle of every single night and throughout, there was a tremendous amount of street noise. Garbage trucks and construction. Way more than I’ve ever experienced in NYC. The windows are poorly insulated and don’t block out much sound. If you stay, ask for an interior room.

The only reason I didn’t give 5 stars is because of how small the rooms are! I had a queen standard and only travel with a carry on backpack. I had absolutely no where to put anything! If two people shared this room and you both had suitcases, I literally have no idea where you would put all your stuff. There is only enough room to barely walk around the bed, but you have to close the bathroom door and then shimmy between the “closet” and the bed. Other than that, absolutely great location, easy to get to and from JFK, and the staff were super friendly.

Had an emergency. Tried to cancel almost immediately after making the reservation. Called the hotel and Hotels.com several times with no luck. Just got passed around ; lines disconnected; no one was able to help or cared. I never even stepped within a mile radius of the hotel. And they're trying to charge me for three nights. If they're this uncaring and unhelpful before you even step in the door, I'd recommend looking at another hotel for your stay.

I stay at this Hotel 2 three times a year out of convenience for the location of my business. Staff is rude and not friendly, and every winter time that I have stayed there the heat in the rooms don't heat the room. I could put it on 90 and it still would give cold air. Their solution is a hand held heater, which when I checked in this past January noticed there was a hand held heater in the room. It was so cold that I had to buy a heated blanket to keep me warm. They were also not accommodating due to the bad weather in the East Coast, my flight was cancelled and I had to fly in the next day, they were unwilling to credit me for the first night that I couldn't fly in and check in. All flights were cancelled for that day to East coast. Wont stay here again.

Location, friendly and helpful staff, valet parking a major plus Bed was not a Queen as the reservation represented; no chairs in the rooms; microwave in room or anywhere else; bathroom gets cold with the door closed as there are no heating vents in there; coffee shop on first floor is great and the staff helpful and friendly but the shop door opens directly on to the street (no vestibule) and we were there on the coldest weekend in recent history...whole downstairs lobby was subject to frequent bursts of cold air

location is good; close to public transport and may things in walking distance. Nice seating area in the window niche (however, quite cold with NYC being very cold. Heating ineffective. Not warm water at night. Bar, lounge and open fire place were advertised but closed "for renovation". At check-in we were presented with additional charges of $57.38 for two nights for 2 persons - a so called "destination fee" allegedly to be paid for use of wellness area (which we didn't) and lounge/bar facilities (which were closed resp. didn't exist).

Had some issues here. It is a converted building, the first room we were given the ac didn’t work so we were moved. The second room wasn’t as good with no window seat. The room was very small with not enough room to store large cases. The weekend nights we stayed there were constant loud noises and sirens from police vehicles. There is a small cafe on ground flooring serving mainly hot drinks and small amount of food. There is a 7 Eleven within a 5 minute walk. HGU is close to the 33 St entrance of the subway. It is also walking distance to Empire State Building.

Room was nice, clean and quiet. Front staff was kind and friendly. Had a nice stay but had to come a day late due to a loss in the family. Was disheartened that the manager Selina did not respond to multiple emails regarding our having to come a day late due to attending a funeral. Was not necessary expecting any credits or fee nights but was disappointed and felt disrespected that our outreach was not acknowledged or responded to. We will not be going back due to this reason.

Hotel was in an excellent spot for exploring. Only a few minutes from the Empire State Building and a 15 minute walk to Macy’s and even Summit One on Vanderbilt. We never ate in the hotel, so can’t comment on the food. It’s in a great location for lots of Korean and Japanese restaurants as well. Very handy for the Metro, which is literally a 2 minute walk from the front door.

My stay at this hotel was an utter disappointment and resulted in unnecessary damage to my property. The single biggest issue was the air conditioning unit, which was severely leaking. Not only did it create a slip hazard on the floor, but it dripped relentlessly right onto my luggage and directly onto a significant portion of my clothes. Several items were completely soaked and are now stained, requiring immediate and expensive dry cleaning. This is completely unacceptable for any functioning hotel room.

BED BUGS! Before I reserve a hotel room, I always check the reviews to scour for any post about bedbugs. I did not find any for this particular hotel. I chose this hotel because of its option for valet which parking in New York is hard to come by. In the morning, we had evidence of bedbugs. We packed all of our belongings into plastic bags and move to another room. After coming back to the room being out all day, we checked the space and found yet again evidence of bedbugs specifically pupa. We didn’t transfer them from room to room because our stuff stayed in plastic bags and they wouldn’t have magically made it to the new bed and started laying eggs. It was late and we got transferred to yet another room but then told that room was having maintenance done on it the next day so we had to go to yet again another room. Perhaps that maintenance was spraying for bedbugs? At this point, we were uncomfortable staying at the hotel, so we decided to check out early And head home. The hotel management is ignoring my phone calls and not responding to messages. They must know there’s a problem and they are avoiding it.

I was about to leave for the US Open for the day when I was told that I was being kicked out and had to find other accommodations. I was uninvolved in the car argument but was nevertheless kicked out. Needless to say this ruined my US Open experience and 3 day/2 night visit to NYC. I had previously stayed here several times before without incident. Until the staff is replaced with competent people who understand customer service and adhere to the notion that “the customer is ALWAYS right” no sane person should ever patronize this abomination of a hotel

Overall, my stay was very nice. The staff was pleasant and the small coffee shop was nice; although, it was a limited menu and took a long time to be served. I had the feeling nothing was made there; it was mostly brought in and maybe assembled there. Two things about the property that were frustrating were that the restaurant/bar is closed down, and my room (King Deluxe) didn’t match the online photos. There was only one small room window that opened onto a small, enclosed area that let in no direct light. If I leaned all the way into the window and looked way up, I could see a small piece of sky. That didn’t match the photos for that room by any means. My room was also smaller than the photos suggested. I feel both the room’s view and lack of a restaurant/bar were relatively large misrepresentations online. However, I would stay there again but make sure I had a better room.

When I dropped my bags off on check in day the women working was very friendly. I dropped bags off around 2pm and was told my room would be ready at 4pm which wasn’t a problem as that was the time the booking said. When I arrived back at 4:10 was told my room was not ready. When I asked about 4pm check in the man looked at me like I had 3 heads. Room was not ready to check in until 4:45pm which is frustrating as I had an event at 5:30 that I had to prepare for. The same women who took my bags on check in day stored them for me on check out day. She was great to deal with.

I chose this hotel from a well travelled family member recommendation. It was without doubt in an excellent location! Entrance to the subway was 100m away and it was a 10 minute walk from Grand Central. Empire State Building was equally a 10 minute walk. The bed was very comfortable and they service you room daily as standard, unlike other local hotels! I was staying for 7 nights and if I had to pick a negative it would be the insistance of a credit/debit card to the tune of $400 on arrival or they would not release the room to me, even though they had been paid through this site a fortnight in advance. I was informed that $200 was for the 'Locally collected mandatory fees/taxes*' on top of the similar amount already paid on purchase. The second $200 on top of the mandatory fees was for the security deposit. Just be sure your card can withstand such a hit on arrival or you may have difficulty. I was informed on leaving that the $200 security deposit would be returned to me via transfer and if it is an international bank account then it could take upwards of 3 weeks. A lovely hotel in a central location.

The water pressure in our room was horrible, I complained about three times and nothing was done. Our refrigerator made a lot of noise. I come to NYC twice a year for business and I can in advance and request a room that I have stayed in before that was decent but they didn't accommodate. I stay at the hotel for the location only. Also, the rooms don't have enough outlets for today's day and age when we have to charge our devices, etc... The outlets that do exist are occupied with the lighting in the rooms.

I’m a tea person and drink tea day and night, so when I found out there is no tea kettle I panicked, fortunately when I went to front desk the staff promptly said they could provide one and delivered to my room within minutes. The service and the tea kettle made the staying an enjoyable experience.

This is my second time staying with then and believe this will be my last this this the second time I stay where there was an issue with the plumbing. I notify the front desk they send someone but they didn’t fix the issue they just show us how to work around the issue. The plumbing is not the best and they need to do something about. Also they charge my credit card a holding incident fee which I was made aware but when I check out they charge credit card a another fee which I wasn’t aware why are they charging several fee when you already paid for the hotel.

I like the hotel, room/bed/pillows were nice. But the heat and phone did not work at all. I notified front desk, who sent engineer, but nothing was fixed, for 3 days. Luckily there was a small space heater and light blanket provided or it would have been way too cold. I think it’s dangerous not to have a working phone in the room. Cafe/food was nice.

Limited ventilation, windows are extremely small. No room service. I don’t know why it’s part of SLH, this hotel is not luxurious. But overall, the hotel is good.

Have stayed there for about 10 yrs. Love the neighborhood, but this hotel is getting a little tired.

Easy walk to shops and stores as well as the train station. It’s close to Korean town but not directly in it. I’d stay here again.

The bed was very comfortable and the room was clean. The hotel is in a quiet street in a safe area. But the room was tiny and my view from the window was the back of other building. When I booked my room in November, it was listed that the check-in time was at 3pm, check-out was at noon. When I actually checked in, the check-in was changed to 4pm and was told that my check-out was at 11am. How is this possible that after I booked a non-refundable/non-changeable hotel rate which does not allow any flexibility on my part, and yet the hotel is allowed to take away 2 hours of my stay time at the hotel? Even the hotel information booklet in the room said the check-out time was at noon. Very unhappy about this. Also the resort fee is ridiculous. It does not give us guests anything extra like a credit to the cafe to spend on. Was not happy about this either.
