Reviews
The hotel has a great location and friendly staff, but it is outdated and in need of renovation. Many guests experienced issues with hot water, and some rooms were not cleaned during their stay. The hotel lacks amenities such as a restaurant, bar, and pool, which were advertised but not available.

The staff were lovely and the lobby impressive. The rooms are dated— the wallpaper, bathrooms (tiles in shower need a good bleach cleaning), dirty desk chair. Was disappointed when I entered the room to see 2 full size beds instead of queen, as advertised. Apparently all the rooms have the same sized beds, so don’t expect a queen. Location in Lynchburg is good. Hotel was fine for one night.

First staff is amazing an quick. Rooms are good. The grand is one of my favorites causes it’s straight across from The Academy Center.

It was a decent hotel. I didn’t see any other guests. The staff was very helpful and nice.

Pool was not available. The fitness room smelled awful. Carpets are old and dated

Convenient location for my work meeting Hot water took a while to get hot enough to shower
- 3/5
The location was good & easy to get to, and there was plenty of parking. My room was clean & quiet. The lobby was freezing, and the decor was dated & tired. It looked like there used to be a restaurant at some point, but it was closed down, so there was only coffee available in the morning. Also, the side door to the parking garage was not fully closed after hours - big safety issue.
- 2/5
Unsecured parking. Dirty room. Very old and dated. No food or bar. Looks semi-deserted. Very warm water (but never hot), which took forever to get warm. My wife had to unclog the bathroom sink using her tweezers. It would not drain at all. Fortunately, we were only in the hotel to sleep at night. Not many choices to stay downtown Lynchburg unless one has $ to burn.
- 2/5
Overall the room was cleanish, however the property has been under renovation since I stayed here 3 years ago. No breakfast. No working pool. Not even the ice machine worked. My card to my room kept getting de-magnitized and I had to get new cards… my last day I was told my phone will cause that. First night no hot water in the shower. Went to make a coffee and the last guests pod was in there from who knows when. I had my dog with me, I called in advance and was told there was a $50 pet fee, as is also stated on the listing. Upon checking in it was suddenly a $75 pet fee (and $5 parking fee for an unsecured lot littered with liquor bottles). Won’t be staying here again.

I am writing to formally express my profound disappointment with my recent stay at your property. Despite paying over $1,500 per room, the accommodations, facilities, and customer service fell far below acceptable hospitality standards. Throughout our stay, we encountered the following severe issues: Poor Room Conditions: The rooms were in a general state of disrepair, featuring old, unvacuumed carpets and a broken refrigerator that was missing a leg, causing it to fall over and rendering it unusable. Unsanitary Bathrooms: The bathrooms were inadequately cleaned, with visible mold growing around the upper portion of the sinks. Furthermore, one of the toilets was difficult to flush and ran continuously afterward. Lack of Housekeeping: Our rooms were not serviced once during our entire stay. When we explicitly went to the front desk to request fresh towels, the staff handed us dirty ones. Facility & Tech Failures: The WiFi in Room 429 was completely non-functional. Most concerningly, we became stuck in the property’s elevator on multiple occasions, which is a significant safety hazard. Overall, this was a terrible experience. The exorbitant cost of the stay was entirely unjustified given the deplorable conditions and lack of basic hygiene. I expect a prompt response addressing how management intends to rectify these systemic failures.
- 4/5
The good: Location is perfect. Free Parking garage attached. Rooms are built to be silent. You don't really hear any noise. King bed was pretty comfortable. The price $$ is significantly cheaper than other hotels. The downside: Needs updated decor. No restaurants or breakfast offered, but there used to be a restaurant there. Only basic coffee offered. There are great options up the street. Had to request more soap and towel. No idea what is going on with the pool. None of the downsides would stop me from staying here again.

Once they remodel this will be 5 star rating across the board! I will 100% be staying there again.

So, the place was great for the price, but it could have been nicer and cleaner.

The saving grace for this "rinky dinky" location was pleasant staff (a few met - Tiffany, Breakfast females (names unknown) & General Manager McNeil). Continental breakfast was acceptable as there was a varirty of choices Lights all worked Air condition ran well Television, fridge and microwave were operational Hangers, even though small amount, were found in the closet List of very disconcerting issues with this ridiculously overpriced old hotel: Price Match is not applied to customer rate when a lower rate is found and identified to vendor There was an issue requesting a "switch" prior to making full payment on website of 3rd party vendor AND on property (a losing battle with poor quality room referred to as "Essential") 3rd party vendor / hotel publication of false advertising per photos of property Rating of 3.6 was seen, but a more accurate rate would be about 1.5 All parties were not responsive nor responsible for miscommunications: website indicated "Property would receive any requests, etc.; however, hotel indicated they did not receive any comments that were sent ahead of Check In Overcharged rate for less than standard hotel room (506) Issues with "Privacy" sign being ignored when placed on the door Pool that is inoperable and really disgusting - looks like a cesspool View of old buildings was not appealing from the window Being locked out of my room, prior to Check-Out date, when the room was left to go to the Ballroom for breakfast - Front Desk then advised me that another party's name was showing in my room when the matter was reported (which only had one occupant - ME) that was paid for in full & was to be occupied for yet another night Stolen laptop reported at Check-Out (also notified the Lynchburg Police in case an investigation or camera surveillance footage was needed - in my opinion, the hotel cleverly returned same to my room (indicating that I overlooked it: they stated that my black laptop was found sitting in their brown desk chair)

The tv is fairly small given the size of the room and all of the bulbs were very dim. The AC and refrigerator were very loud. We stayed to attend graduation at Liberty University, so payed over $350 per night for a mediocre room.

The location was great. The tub in our room would not drain so it filled up with water every single time we bathed. It wasn’t pleasant if somebody wanted to try and use the shower right after one person was done . Pool was closed, workout room closed. Had to get keys replaced multiple times because they stopped working, worker opened our door without knocking to “test the door” after we had already gotten back to our room. I was also double charged and had to dispute it with the bank because the hotel said they had no record of charging me twice, even though I could show them on my banking app.

This was a fine and inexpensive property to use while visiting downtown Lynchburg. The hotel is quite dated, and some of it appears to be closed or undergoing construction. Nevertheless, the price point and the location are selling points, and I would certainly stay there again for quick visits to Lynchburg.

Lynchburg Grand was a decent place to stay for a night. I know they are doing some renovations, so there was no continental breakfast. Most of the ice machines were out of order. We didnt need ice but im sure some did and there was only 2 floors the machines worked. The staff were all very nice and our room was very clean. We would stay here again if its only for a night or two.

I have never left a 1 star review but someone has to do it. We chose this hotel because it got 8.8 stars out of 10. This hotel is in complete disrepair. The bar and restaurants have been abandoned, there was no heat running at all in the lobby and the staff had space heaters going trying to stay warm, there was a mattress in the hallway going to our room which was tired and dingy, our sofa was covered in stains, the internet wasn't strong enough to carry a signal, the shower kept spewing water in the middle of the night, our feet stuck to the floor in the bathroom like we were walking on fly paper, the ceiling over the shower looked like it was ready to cave in, and the water was only lukewarm at best. How on earth this hotel received a score of 8.8 is alarming. Where are these reviews coming from?

There was no breakfast available. The rooms are not cleaned every day. The property is still nice but dated. My room was not available and they moved me to another room. I kind of felt like a second class citizen because I booked through a “third party” instead of the hotel. Not sure if I would return because of that.

We are unhappy with our stay, which was marred by elevator problems. Luckily, the issue was resolved by the staff member who used a special tool to open the door, preventing my family from getting stuck. Moreover, we discovered that breakfast was not included, contrary to our expectations based on which we selected your hotel, forcing us to incur additional expenses on an already tight budget.

The staff was lovely and helped with an issue getting in my room. The room however had several issues: the handle on the shower to adjust the water temperature was broken and you had to manually search for the hot water by moving the handle around until eventually you landed in the right spot; the tub drain stopper was broken and hanging into the tub and had rusted to the bottom of the tub; and there was a huge stain on one side of the comforter that resembled blood. I’m not sure if the comforter had even been washed.

The hotel is very worn down and not very clean. It’s an older property but obvious they have allowed it to age poorly instead of trying to maintain it. The beds were uncomfortable and the walls and doors are incredibly thin. You can hear everything there’s no privacy. The only positive was the young guy working the front desk that checked us out, he was warm and friendly.

The hotel is nice. In the downtown area so very walkable. Parking does seem limited. Also, we were notified upon check in that they've done away with their breakfast so you may want to take that into consideration. The beds also were quite small for two people. Overall, service was good and it met our expectations.

I thought the staff was very kind, helpful and professional. However, the rooms were honestly filthy. When I turned the hearer on, a gross smell like rotten food would fill the room. Everything is verrrry run down, old. Layer of dirt on everything. It just feels like the rooms definirely don't get more than maybe the bedding changed between guests. I wouldn't stay here again

They informed us that there is no breakfast even though i chose this place because i wanted breakfast included. Worst of all, there was a huge shindig going on in the hotel, and there was absolutely no parking available. We had to drive around and around, and finally ended up parking on the street a few blocks away. Hopefully we won't be ticketed or towed.

No breakfast was a surprise as I chose this place because it advertised having breakfast. Only super brutal coffee and hot water for tea. The outside parking is convenient but difficult for getting in and out. The staff was kind and all apologized for no breakfast which was discontinued just before Thanksgiving weekend 😕. No rebate or offer for compensation for the inconvenience of having no breakfast. A Pop tart from the limited vending machine was unsatisfactory. It seems this hotel is in transition but decisions being made regarding that do not honor their promises or their guests. I hope they can do better. Hotels.com should intervene for the guests who booked there and did not receive what they paid for.

The hotel is dated and is in need of a full upgrade and renovation. I expected a “real” buffet breakfast but only got watered down coffee and packaged, overly sweet muffins. The main reasons, I booked this hotel was location, free buffet breakfast and the gym. The gym was HORRIBLE, it should have been closed for the mildew and mold. Clearly, this hotel needs a lot of work. I gave a 3 stars because the staff were friendly, hospitable and helpful.

The key did not work and on the fifth floor I had to go up and down the elevator three times to get staff to assist. The staff did admit the system was antiquated. Limited staff-I only saw one staff member at night. The parking was not apparent and I had to call several times before I got someone to answer to find out where the parking was-in an old parking garage and then they did not have automatic doors. Then in the morning the shower did not work at all, the breakfast was minimal. I asked the staff for a refund and they said contact Expedia. My guess is this place is hanging on by a thread.

The key did not work and on the fifth floor I had to go up and down the elevator three times to get staff to assist. The staff did admit the system was antiquated. Our first room appeared to have soiled sheets. Front desk switched rooms quickly with no problems. Rooms were pretty clean. Bathroom was clean except the tile and caulking around the tub had significant mildew. Shower curtain bar was drooping down preventing the curtain from staying closed( causing water spraying on the floor). A breakfast sandwich and burrito would be a nice addition.

Everything was great for us. It was busy and the front desk had a computer system issue but they stayed positive even with many people getting frustrated.

Old and run down. Do not rent the jetted tub room. The mold and lack of jets were disgusting.

Ripped curtains, corroded disgusting tub drain that didn’t drain (I refused to shower in it), broken elevator buttons, it smelled like they were trying to cover up even nastier smells. Its overall look was drab and tired. We stayed here about 6 years ago and it was great, right now, as is, it needs to close!

Something happened with the computer system & check in was a nightmare. Stood in line for over 45 minutes to check in. There were issues with finding the reservation & the key card would not work. Staff member had to use master key to let me into the room. Waited 2.5 hours for a key to be sent to the room, which never happened. Had to stand in line again to received a key. 2 out of 3 keys worked. Staff not helpful or friendly. Disappointing.

Dated. While clean and safe this property needs love and updates. Leaky faucet, squeaky bed and coffee maker that would shut off the power code it was plugged into so I had to search for an outlet that could run it. It was a quick stop over in a long road trip so it served its purpose.

The best part of the entire stay was the friendliness of the staff. Property conditions: there was a raining period which resulted in several leaks in entrance and parking area.

This hotel is older, but very clean and has a lot of character! The staff was extremely helpful and friendly and all the support personnel were equally great. The price was very good, and the downtown location was charming. It was just a block away within walking distance to the iconic 90 year old Texas Inn! I will definitely make this my go-to hotel in Lynchburg.

Arrived at 5 pm way past check in time, waited in longline at checkin. My room as well as several others was not ready. Was told come back later. My room was not ready until 6:15. I was supposed to be at an event that started at 630. This lack of preparation on the hotels part caused me to be 45 late for an event i had come to town to attend. This was not the best experience.

It was a quick trip to see grandchildren and returned to the Grand and the place was rather nice and quiet as always. The staff as friendly as ever and the breakfast was hot and fresh and well stocked. The breakfast attendant was outstanding and was quickly helping multiple guest and items at one time. His personality and hustle was greatly appreciated.

It took over an hour to be checked in, no explanation, no apology, no offer of a discount of any kind, just he’s your keycard to get in. The toilet we thought was broken, but instead you had to take the back lid off so it could lift all the way up to flush. Our phone didn’t work, we were given a number to call from our own phones. We drove over 6 hours to stay at a run down hotel. I’ve paid less for more honestly.

Our bathtub had a horrible grime ring and wouldn’t drain, though water pressure was good. We had a horrible time with the keycard access and had to come down multiple times for help to get into our room. The mattresses were comfortable but the hotel itself is very dated and in need of repair in areas of painting, toilets (ours wouldn’t stop running on its own) and the breakfast area is just so dark.

The room key was a little crazy. Had to slide it in and out quite a few times, then had to shoulder bump the door to open it. Double room - one bed had stains on the sheets and black crumbs in the bed, not sure if it was clean. Also super squeaky. Room was clean just dingy. Staff was so kind and helpful! From front desk, cleaning crew, and breakfast crew your staff is incredible.

We stayed here when passing thru Virginia to head to South Carolina - This is an older hotel but very clean and good sized room and bed was comfortable, air conditioning set just right. We especially liked the continental breakfast spread set up by Pat and conversation with other friendly staff. Pat has been working here for 30 years and said new owners planning renovations. Parking was convenient next to the hotel with east side door entry. We did not get a chance to explore downtown, but hotel is located across from the performing arts theater - art deco and historic buildings nearby with various shops and some restaurants that we saw as we drove past. Affordable stay and we do recommend.

Sadly our room had no hot water, not even warm. Our friend who stayed a level lower, said after 15 minutes letting the water run, she had luke warm water. The phone in our room also was in not working codition. The room smelled heavily of mildew and you could see how the wallpaper is coming off. The bathroom floor was not really clean but The bed was super comfortable. And a nice feature is that there is a microwave and a fridge with freezer inside the room. We called it in the night we stayed,(with our cellphone, due to the room phone was not working) And the lady sad it is normal to leave the water running for at least 15 minutes to get warm water. The amount of wasted water and the water bill for the owners must be horrendous. Beside that everbody who worked there was very nice and friendly. The location is fantastic.

Absolutely disgusting hotel. Original room was filthy and full of black mold from the furniture to the carpet including the vents. bathroom had pink mold. I was switched to 3 different rooms. All of the rooms were in the same condition. We refused to stay and had to book a different hotel. Definitely unsafe. Only good thing i can say is the staff was extremely nice and accommodating and tried everything in their power to give me a better experience.

We've stayed here before and understand what condition the hotel is in. We stay here for overnight trips because the price is right. The beds are comfortable and the rooms are clean. This time, the shower in our room didn't work. We made do and informed the front desk attendant when we checked out. The attendant just said that she'd let maintenance know. We expected an apology of some sort and gratitude for letting them know. Just total lacking of basic customer service.

Door lock was not functioning properly. Told front desk first day and did nothing about it. Every time we came back to hotel we needed to get new room keys because our old ones were deactivated. Carpet was disgusting and dirty. Hotel’s website said they had a pool and exercise room, but looked like the pool had been out of service for years and no access to exercise room. breakfast was a joke. The bananas were all bruised, and the apples were bruised. Selection was slim to nothing. AC front panel was broken and crooked. The luggage carts were old and filthy. when we asked for more towels, we instructed we had to come down to the lobby and get them. When you walked in the hotel, the lobby looked pretty good, but past the lobby was run down at old.

The good news is that the linens were clean. The bathtub drain tended to back up while you used the shower. The main elevators were out of service and we had to go through some dilapidated staff areas to use the service elevator. There is no dining at the hotel, and we found only a few options of any sort within walking distance. We had to drive out of Lynchburg for a nice dinner. The hotel breakfast was also limited, so we passed and drove to a Cracker Barrel as we left Lynchburg.

Old but fairly clean and spacious. Limited breakfast options.

We were dropping our son off for college and stayed at the Lynchburg Grand. It was nice and quiet. Staff was nice and everything was clean. There isn’t any housekeeping, so you will need to stop by for extra towels. As long as that doesn’t bother you, this is a great place to stay!
- 5/5
The property seems to have been refurbished but to a 3 star hotel. There is no dining inside the hotel, there is no bar. The gym is old. More work is required.
- 4/5
Maintenance issues here and there—lamps that don’t work, key cards needed swapped out a few times between the two rooms and guests we had with us .
- 4/5
The room and bed were comfortable and clean. Everything worked well and we enjoyed good sleep and got some work done as well. The only issue was that the fitness room lock did not work properly so someone had to open it for us.

The location was great. The first room we were assigned the key cards would not work, tried two different sets, the.n the next room the key cards work but the toilet kept mysteriously running. Finally the third room was ok but the bathroom was dirty and it didn’t look like they had truly cleaned the corners.

Great location to special Features in the area.
- 3/5
The general cleanliness was fine but there were hairs in my sons bed!!
- 3/5
Our stay was okay. We had several issues with the key card lock on our door. Also pool was not open. A/C unit in room barely cooled the room. The ice machines on most of the floors were broken. Pictures online for the hotel were definitely taken several years ago.
- 4/5
It is a clean old Hotel, that doesn't offer room service or linen service
- 4/5
I stay here often as a mutual meeting place for my visitations with my granddaughter
- 2/5
Upon check in I was greeted very nicely but informed by the staff member that housekeeping was not available during my stay. I found this strange but I did see housekeeping in the halls the next day. This did inconvenience me slightly since I booked these rooms for my family coming in for a surprise 80th birthday. In the event they needed to freshen up, rest or have somewhere relax while waiting for our next event. I will learn from this experience and ask ahead what the hotel policy is on housekeeping before zi book my next stay.
- 4/5
Staff was super friendly!
- 3/5
Seemed strangely empty. Great peruvian restaurant down the street
- 2/5
Phone in room didn’t work and when reported to front desk I was told it was hit or miss with the phones. Card key entry unstable, had to get a new card and still intermittently worked. Ice machine on floor (5th) didn’t work and didn’t have a sign, Continental breakfast with no fruit. Hotel Signage is over the adjacent garage and barely noticeable during the day hours. No signs ground level near entrance.
- 5/5
Clean room and bathroom. A little outdated but gives it that historic feel. Will definitely stay here again.

In town for business with Liberty U. Although the hotel was not all that close to Liberty, being in the downtown area was a good choice. Parking was convenient. There were many restaurants in the area. Continental breakfast was adequate. WIFI internet was slow.

Very economical, older hotel but clean, definitely needs updating and TLC. Provided a continental breakfast, which was perfect. AC worked great, the electoral outlets don’t work well, hot water is slow but eventually comes. Would stay there again, it’s very reasonable and staff very nice and felt safe.pool not open

Very nice property. Could use some rooms refurbished in bathrooms. But otherwise very nice.

Loved location. However,
- 3/5
Great free parking. Easy to walk area. The room was a little underwhelming, corners were a little dusty and the room was loud even with ac turned off.
- 5/5
Affordable, improved since my previous stay. Easy parking and convenient location. Fridges have small working freezers that hold ice packs. Large Rooms.
- 5/5
This is my favorite hotel in Lynchburg, very clean, an staff is amazing.
- 2/5
I stood at the desk for 10 minutes waiting to be checked in then I went outside and asked someone sitting on a bench if they knew who was working the front she finally came from outside on the phone. The room was extremely hot even after cutting on the a/c by the time it started to cool the room off it was time for check out.
- 5/5
In town for family reunion
- 5/5
For the price, the hotel was nice. The bathtub drained very slowly and the beds were a little soft for our taste,p but that’s a difference in every hotel we go to.
- 5/5
It is located next to a college with buildings from the 1800's. Behind was small homes that were run down. The hotel is with other businesses, including a bank. The staff were friendly and helpful. Will definitely go back if ever in the area sgain.
- 3/5
The room was clean. The bath tub had a very slow drain so water was stagnant in the tub for a while.
- 5/5
Its always one of my favorite places to stay at when I go to Lynchburg Va. I recommend this place to everyone
- 5/5
Clean, quiet and well furnished hotel. Staff was friendly and helpful.
- 1/5
I've already sent email to manager. The main bad part was no grand breakfast. And when we checked in there was a sign stating breakfast in am. Then an adjoining door in our rm to the next rm. The bathtub was inoperable. Bed was lumpy. Coffee machine didn't work. The ac cover rattled so bad it kept us up till 4am. Then I took the cover off.
- 4/5
Didn't like that there was not breakfast onsite. Otherwise a pleasant stay. Great location.
- 5/5
Our stay was great. This is where we come to stay when we come to Lynchburg. This hotel is an amazing place to relax & lay your head down. The only complaint I have is the mattress was really firm but I got used to it the second night. The staff was amazing & prompt on everything. I'm looking forward to staying here again.
- 5/5
Nice people, good hotel room. Valet area need some signage, people going both directions!
- 4/5
Property is a little dated but very clean, comfortable beds, great price, and friendly, helpful staff.
- 5/5
Great stay
- 3/5
The room was clean. There were a couple of maintainance issues with the bathroom.
- 1/5
The paneling in the elevator is chipped and scratched, and some basic maintenance would help. Some elevator buttons are missing their numbers. I was on 6th floor but there was no six! There's no excuse for not marking it. Our room was dirty and dusty. The old air conditioner unit was dusty and grimy, and needed a good wipe-down. The phone was disgusting and didn't work. The carpet was badly stained. The tub, by the drain, was badly stained black. Worst, we didn't notice, until leaving, that the smoke alarm had been removed! No excuse for that. When we checked in, we were told that "there's no housekeeping...no one to make up the beds." It was not a welcoming experience. The parking lot, not attached, does not have security, and is creepy. Single females should stay elsewhere. We planned to stay 3 days but left after one. One night was too much. In all fairness, the bedding was clean and the beds comfortable. The shower was good. Just the condition of the hotel and rooms was bad.

The room was not well maintained. The lighting was substandard. There was mold and rust in bathtub. There was NO hot water whatsoever. There were little ants running all over the room. The phone had no dial tone, so couldn't call the front desk.

Good place to stay on the way to someplace else.

I woke up with ants in my bed and took a video of them calling all over the tables, when I walked in I was surprised on how run down the place was

Terrible hotel. Do not book. Hotel smells of mold. 2nd floor flooded. Security doors do not lock. Management wouldn’t give a refund even though we checked in and left within an hour of being in the room, in fact the won’t answer the phone at all and voicemails are full. Tubs don’t drain, carpet is peeling up, mold in rooms, toilets don’t flush, lights don’t work. Room is dirty. There are many hotels in Lynchburg in this pride range, look elsewhere.

I know that the property is, I think going through a refurbishing. However multible holes in walls is not okay in a room that you are using. Bathroom ammenties - just shampoo (?) was less than ideal. (Hand soap, shower soap and conditioner are usually a staple in Hotel rooms). Price was nice.

Travelers beware! The hotel is in disrepair. The elevators didn't work; you must take the stairs or a filthy cargo elevator, (which had wet towels and a toilet plunger in it). To return to lobby, guests had to take stairs or use a car key to activate the employee controls for the service elevator. Guests were smoking, so the 5th floor reeked. My shower didn't drain properly, and when I ran water in the bathroom sink the shower would start to gurgle and disgorge filthy brown water. The stairwells were dirty and wet. While I was staying there, pipes burst above one of their conference rooms, flooding the entire thing. The housekeeping staff was surly. The front desk folks were nice enough, but they are working on a sinking ship. This hotel is nicely located in downtown within walking distance of Lynchburg restaurants and shops, but that is the only nice thing I can say about it. Horrible, horrible hotel.

Smelled like mildew and mold. Elevator was broken, had to take stairs, not hot water in shower, water didn't drain in the tub. Ants crawling around the room and on the bed. TV channels were not working. AC unit is extremely loud.

Needs remodeling.

The elevators were out. The first floor room that accessed the staircase had a hole in the ceiling, clearly due to a recent leak. Walked up the stairs to the 2nd floor to find that the hallway had multiple industrial fans running. The hallway smelled like musty towels. The room was just okay. The beds were poorly made and lumpy.

The hotel needs a refurb in a big way. Basics like the elevators were out of Serice. The overall appearance and condition were sub par.
