Sign in was nice. Walk up stairs to get to room. No light over sink in bathroom. No bedding for sofa bed. View was gorgeous. Breakfast was lacking. There was no butter. For toast. Place was quaint. Palmetto bug in bedroom. No internal lock on door. Place was clean.

I liked that it was historic, seeing as it was built in 1925. The only downside was the plethora of bugs and spiders in the room and bed, and dead insects( outside the room window). There was no one at the front desk to speak with to address concerns.

Beautiful kind and friendly staff. Grounds beautiful and serene, even the guest are friendly, possibly due to the total experience of comfort and relaxation. We would love to come, however due to our disability we can’t walk up the stairs and their isn’t even a lift. Unfortunately we were limited to our room.

We thoroughly enjoyed out stay at the Capernaum Lodge. We had a fabulous suite with living room and dining room. We could have stayed there for a long holiday. Unfortunately we were only there one night - our 56th wedding anniversary. We were met by a lovely lady at reception who looked after our needs perfectly. The house was very quiet that evening as there are not staff around, but that was fine. We met other interesting guests out side in the seating areas and at breakfast. I would recommend this place and would love to return some other time. It is very convenient for BOK Tower and Garden - which is magnificent.

Loved the old historic property. Staff were very helpful and the breakfast was great. A few basics would have been appreciated (ice machine...soda vending - although I realize that would detract from the ambiance, nonetheless, having to travel 20 minutes to the Publix for a couple of sodas was NOT convenient.

The place was beautiful..the space was awesome...I saw the first morning a person behind the food for breakfast..which was ok but I had a room with a full kitchen and chose to eat there...and the next time I saw a person from the hotel was when I checked out 3 days later. I did not realize there was no smoking on the property until it was too late..so I took a little drive every morning with my coffee. Everything was just ok. The biggest issue was there was no hot water for a shower. I heated water on the stove for dishes. I probably wont stay there again.

The property is ok. The staff was pleasant. The hotel rooms are awkward at best. The price for the facilities is extremely disappointing. We had a great time in Lake Wales but I wouldn’t recommend staying here. $171 a night for what was reminiscent of a college dorm room. The lake view room I paid for was overlooking the second floor roof at some trees with the lake barely in view behind them. Holiday inn express was $150 (which seems pretty high for the location) but at least you know what you’re getting. We’ll visit LW again but won’t stay at lake lodge.

This is a lovely location - old, historic, well taken care of, and a beautiful setting. Our room was a small suite with a pull-out couch in one room and two twin beds pushed together in the other room, connected by a bathroom. Clean and comfortable. There is central a/c, though you have no control over the temperature. The only disappointing thing is the breakfast, which offered zero healthy choices. Other than the cook at breakfast, we never saw a staff person our entire 2-night stay - though easy check-in instructions were emailed.

Really close to Legoland nice view of the lake and felt like an old-school Country Inn. Breakfast was good. The dock was closed off I guess it had damage from the storm couple weeks ago. They're nice enough to give us a bottom floor. The kitchen is was fully equiped. The rooms were okay. I was washing dishes I guess my biggest complaints AR only central air conditioning for each floor so they try and set it to a happy medium between all guest. No security at night so you feel kind of out there be nice if they had someone that stayed overnight in the hotel to address any concerns. I'm from a big city so I'm used to having security and things locked up at night. Anyway it's not five star hotel but it was comfortable and cozy

If you're reading this review, you've probably found that lodging options in Lake Wales are very limited. Things are slightly better in Winter Haven, but that can be a 20 - 30 minute drive. That said, if you have a reason to visit Lake Wales (i.e. Bok Tower Gardens) this is a pleasant and unique place to stay. As other reviews have noted, the facility is operated by a local church / ministry as an event location as much as a hotel / inn. There was a wedding the weekend we stayed, which made things slightly noisy until the reception ended. Breakfast was a typical hotel buffet but was a good option versus driving to a restaurant on our first morning. The highlight is definitely the interior of the lodge, which has clearly received a great deal of TLC. Christmas decorations added to the charm. Our room was small but very clean and comfortable. Unfortunately, the building exterior and grounds are not maintained to the same level, although this is not really a problem unless you intend to spend a lot of time there (which we didn't). During our stay, the dock on the lake was still off-limits and there was no evidence of repairs. Some have suggested this as an alternative when visiting Legoland; not sure we'd agree unless you really have an aversion to chain hotels / motels. All-in-all, we would stay here again if we were in Lake Wales for other reasons, but as a destination on it's own you may find the Capernaum Lodge lacking unless you are staying here for an event.

This is a Christian retreat. Hotels.com website does not indicate this. Rooms were freezing and there was no way to adjust the temperature. Main bed was fine, but air conditioning blew non-stop all night directly on the bed. Sofa bed was miserable. Checked in after dark and there were no lights on outside. Trying to get kids and luggage in was spooky, to say the least. Never saw a single employee.

The location is great. You're right on the lake and the view is just gorgeous and peaceful. With that said, there are a few things about this place that could use improving. In our room, the TV was a flat screen, but the image was static-y and black and white the whole time. There was no fridge in the room. There were a few rocking chairs out side, which was nice, but the place just needs more. A pool would be great since you can't actually go in the lake; maybe a play ground for kids; some more landscaping/gardens around the area and more outside chairs to enjoy the view. There was a dock I was looking forward to sitting on, only to find the area chained off with "restricted" signs, so that was a bummer. Otherwise, room itself was fine and breakfast was good. I do like that it's a small place, it just feels very "bare bones" when you're there. Also, they should advertise on the Hotels.com site that there is no alcohol allowed on the property. This place is connected to some kind of ministry, which is fine, but you don't find out about the no alcohol issue until you enter the room and there are warning signs about being removed if any is found.

The location is great. You're right on the lake and the view is just gorgeous and peaceful. With that said, there are a few things about this place that could use improving. The property was pretty . We did a Sunday check in. They do not have staff at the desk on Sundays or after 5:00. So when we arrived on Sunday no one was there. I did check my e-mail and it gave instructions on what to do for check in, they were easy to follow. We got our belongings and went to check out our room. Room was clean, everything that we expected from photos online. Once in the room we did discover that this lodge is a nonprofit Christian organization. All room charges are donation. Not that it mattered to us, but just helpful information. We decided to walk around the lodge to see what it had to offer and also look for other people. From when we arrived we had not seen a soul. There were only two other cars in the parking lot. We did not see anyone else there. We went to check out the fishing dock that they show in the photos. We had planned to do some fishing off the dock. At that point we found out the dock was closed. We were quite disappointed. Had I known the dock was closed I probably would have picked a different location to stay at. This was a large deciding factor to stay here when I booked. It should be noted there are lots of beware of gator signs posted along the water. I am from Florida so this is a no brainer to me, but something families with young children should be cautious of. It was a nice quiet stay. No human interactions, other than check out when the lady at the desk was on her phone and could barely take 30 seconds to talk to us.

If you're looking for something reasonably priced and close to Legoland, this is a great place. Don't expect hotel-type accomodations. It's very lodge-y and dated, but was nice and spacious for our family of 5. Great hot FREE breakfast! We pretty much had the place to ourselves. It was clean and fine for one night on our road trip. Full kitchen in our room. It's also very close to Book Tower Gardens, which we wanted to visit but couldn't squeeze in.

The place is beautiful and extremely peaceful. The only issue I experienced is that WIFI service was extremely poor and practically non existent. This was more of an issue since I did not have good cell reception either. Besides that I would recommend as the rooms are very comfortable and the sight is just surreal.

I liked the TV room and dining area. The room (we had a single room with king size bed) was nice, but a chair in the room would have helped. The view of the lake was great.

Cell coverage is spotty but they have free WiFi so I was able to make calls with that. The only thing I found odd was that there is no alcohol allowed on premises. Not a big deal although I could have used a glass of wine after being at Legoland all day. Wouldn't change my mind about staying there at all. All in all I loved our stay there.

A great place to get away from it all. You will find a large former retreat house-like atmosphere. Lovely old common areas, outdoor areas to sit and enjoy the quiet lake and wildlife. Lovely sunrises and sunsets. Room a bit small but there is much to enjoy here.

Quaint, quiet and unique. I can’t say enough good things about this place! We only stayed for one night on our way to our final trip destination but it was absolutely worth the stop. This place is like a step back in time to old Florida. The grounds are beautiful and serene. The property is well cared for inside and out. The breakfast was top notch with many choices for hot and cold items. We will absolutely be staying here again soon!!

The hotel was very clean, nice, and quiet. We never saw employees except when eating the breakfast. It was close to LEGOland, shopping, and restaurants. If TV and internet are something you need this may not be the place. Each night when coming in the tv (satellite) wasn’t working and neither did the WiFi and with kids that was an issue. Overall, nice, quiet and relaxing if you are not wanting to stay in a busy place this is for you!

There's a pier that looks beautiful and many visitors walked on it. I went to see the sunrise with my son and as I took a picture of my son, my foot went through a pier board. I freaked out, as well as everyone that was also on the pier freaked out and everyone immediately got off. There are alligators visible at the lake from what I was told; other visitors showed recordings of them. The pier should have been closed and a sign needs to be put to keep everyone off. I brought it to the staffs attention, and they immediately went to put the thin ropelike chain across. "Someone must have opened it", they said. I told them they need a posted sign and a lock on the chain. I saw many children and adults wander throughout the 2 days prior. It was a horrible experience. Please stay alert and do not go on that pier!!!! There are alligators on that lake.

We needed a place to stay that was close to our family. I loved the ambiance of this place and the seclusion of the property. The staff informed us of the swarm of "blind mosquitos" and was proactive in keeping the grounds cleaned. These flying insects are not mosquitos, they are fresh water midges and do not bite, suck blood or carry disease. Beautiful site for any special ocassion. They had a wedding the last night we were there. Our stay was wonderful!

Quiet spot to get away. On beautiful Pierce Lake. Must travel some for eating other than breakfast. Swarming insects made it really unpleasant outside at dusk. No real amenities, just a nice place to sleep. Breakfast was just ok. Not that many people there and they ran out of scrambled eggs by the time we got to breakfast at 8:00 (breakfast is from 7-9) as we were getting ready to leave they brought out a waffle iron and told us how to make our waffles if we wanted any, but we had already finished. Everyone was friendly.
