Scripps Inn La Jolla Cove

Great location. Quiet, next door to beautiful Museum of Contemporary Art which has a lovely outdoor cafe and indoor/outdoor seated restaurant. Right on the ocean. We walked everywhere. There are some stairs to some rooms but we re in our 70’s and managed.

Can’t wait to return! Scripps Inn is directly across from the ocean. The rooms are charming. Recommend: Ask for ocean view if available. There is no breakfast but the museum has an excellent breakfast and lunch. Easy walk to museum and the center LJ COVE.

We loved the location and view from the room. The room itself was older, but very clean and comfortable! Check in was super easy and staff was amazing.

The parking was extremely convenient and safe. It was located right by our room and the front lobby. All of the staff were very kind and friendly. The location was just across the street from the beach. We enjoyed walking along the walkway above the beach with great views of the sea lions and many different kinds of sea birds!

Hmm, this is a hard review. This is the only oceanside inn in La Jolla. It is charming and ideally situated, and for sure we would stay there again, but we didn't get a good night's sleep in three nights as we could hear every creek in the room above us, and the shared space was right outside our room, and the other guests weren't considerate. 5 stars for the room and the location, but ask for the 3rd, top, floor!

Check in was fast and easy. I called ahead for an early check in and they were able to accommodate and upgraded our room in doing so. The location was better than expected, we didn’t have to step outside to view the sunset. We enjoyed the view right from the living room. It was a short walk for breakfast at the museum cafe and lunch or dinner on Prospect St. We loved the beach towels available for guests and the cute sundeck where others gathered. The room was so convenient with stove, toaster, and the kitchen sink!! It was a delightful stay - we are definitely coming back.

To our surprise, when we arrived, we were upgraded to a 2-bed room with kitchenette with all the amenities. Second floor with a straight view to the sunset. If in the area again, definitely will re-book.

Hotel is in a great location. Parking was easy. Rooms are spacious and clean. Two things that stood out were the lack of outlets. Not one by the bed which was kind of inconvenient. And the mattress was really uncomfortable. The bedding also didn’t fit the bed so it shifted all night, exposing the mattress which isn’t ideal.

We had an amazing stay at this charming, small hotel in La Jolla. The location is unbeatable—right across from the ocean with beautiful views, and just minutes from the Cove and everything San Diego has to offer. The property feels cozy and homely, almost like a studio apartment, and the room was spotless. The staff were incredibly friendly, and the after-hours check-in was seamless. We loved everything about this place and will definitely be coming back.

Excellent inn. May recommend an upgrade on electronics and charging ports. The staff were wonderful! The parking is easy.

There are plenty of shops nearby and the rooms along with the customer service are truly welcoming. However, the beach might be a bit challenging to reach for some visitors.

Loved this place! Excellent location and wonderful staff. A great view and close to where the harbor seals and sea lions are. Walkable to many restaurants. I would definitely stay here again.

This cute place has no pool or restaurant, but the ocean is right across a quiet street. And there are very walkable restaurants, shops, and art galleries. Brooke and the staff were so hospitable and kind. They have chairs and a bike to borrow for the beach, and a homey deck to watch the sunset. Loved it.

One of the best hotels I’ve ever stayed. Beautiful, unique, very clean and quiet, 2 steps from the ocean. You can hear the waves while sleeping. Great bed and all the bathroom amenities are high quality. Me. At the reception was very welcoming and polite. Thank you!

I would visit again, but without my children because I didn’t feel they were 100% welcome. If you have children and plan to visit be sure they are trained to keep very quiet.

We were placed in room #4. Ok room, clean and spacious for a couple. Well-decorated. Almost no ocean view, but this was advertised as "courtyard view" so we weren't expecting anything great. There were no outlets by the bed. Only outlets were in the bathroom and the dining area. Pull out bed was old and completely worn out, needs to be replaced. This means anyone aside from those sleeping in the king bed are not going to be comfortable. Property has several parking spots but parking is not free; do you really need to charge customers an extra $22/day?

Parking availble for guests only, additonal parking is available on the street. A furnished sun deck was available and comfortable to gather at. The beach is just across the street. The sunsets were incredible. Visitors lined the sidewalk, across the street, just to take in the view at sundown. The staff was very accommodating, very friendly. We will definitely return.

Great location, immediately right on the beach and close to food and entertainment. The walls are thin, anytime someone walked by our room, you could feel them. Other places cost the same, but the view and proximity to the beach was premium.

The hotel is in a GREAT location and the view from the common area looking over the ocean is gorgeous. The rooms themselves are clean but dated. Front desk has limited hours so if you need anything, you need to get to them early before they leave for the day. If you don't need modern conveniences, it is a very nice place to stay.

Fantastic location across from the Pacific Ocean. The owners/managers are friendly and accommodating. However they request check in after 4 pm, but lock up at 5pm. You then have to use the phone provided to be given a combination number to access a locked box containing the room key. A nuisance if you are tired after a long trip.

This place is perfect for a quick romantic getaway. We’re local and wanted a night away from the kids for our anniversary. We will definitely stay here again the beach access and walking distance of everything is great. Definitely some noise but with the windows closed it’s quiet.

I have stayed in many different properties and had good experiences and bad experiences. Every once in a while, you hit a grand slam and this place was just that! It is located right on the coast with a spectacular view of the Pacific Ocean and a very short walk to the cove. Shopping and dining options are a short distance as well. The staff was friendly, the rooms were spacious and clean, and we could not have been more satisfied!

Location and service were wonderful! They are right across the street from the La Jolla beach with tide pools. It was perfect for our family trip with two young kiddos. Walking distance from the shops and restaurants in La Jolla as well. The rooms could use a little TLC. Some screens in the windows were coming off and the carpet gave out a musty smell and had many stains, definitely needs an upgrade to hardwood floors. Overall clean, but the carpet and smell has us suspecting mildew.

It felt like this was a little south of where a lot of the tourist congestion was but still easy walking distance to plenty of restaurants, which was perfect. Fantastic location. Nice clean room, comfortable bed, plenty of storage, and very friendly staff. My only (minor), complaint is that the electrical outlets are so worn that plugs for phones, etc., nearly fall out. Until they get replaced, a power strip plugged into one of the less-worn outlets is pretty helpful.

Rooms not as "trendy" or "modern" in terms of style or decoras some boutique hotels, however, I prefer this type of accommodation where you park right by the room and are in and out easily. no dealing with valet. Front desk was friendly. Room was clean. No issues, would stay again.

Room was very nice, but first floor lacks privacy, office not open after 5 which is very inconvenient if you need anything.

It is located right off of the beach. The only addition I would make would be adding an AC.

I did relax, love it.

I knew there would be no air as it is an older building however I did not bank on the horrible smell from the ocean blowing down my throat.

We got to the hotel late, and I had received clear check in instructions from the hotel so that was good. However when we hot to the room, it smelled muggy and moldy. It was a hot August night and there is no AC at the property. I found 3 fans and I turned them on and kept the door open to air out the room. Yet the smell won’t go away and the temperature won’t go down. The thermostat was reading 82 all night which made a horrible sleep. I had a conference early the next day and I was bot well rested. The hotel’s location is beautiful, I just wish the room was cleaner and well aired !

A breathe of fresh air. As soon as I arrived and stepped out of my car, my stress melted away. The view is stunning. It’s walkable so I didn’t get back into my car until it was time to depart. I would have stayed more than two nights if I had booked my reservation ahead of time. If you are looking for a quaint, charming place to stay, this may be the place for you. Easy check in, friendly, helpful staff too.

Absolutely wonderful stay and we'll definitely stay again. The Scripps Inn is a true gem with a FABULOUS location with AMAZING views. quaint boutique little hotel with plenty of on site parking at $18 daily. Lisa at the front desk/office could not have ben more helpful, friendly and accommodating. There is no daily housekeeping, which was no problem for us whatsoever. If you would like more coffee, change of towels, wine glasses to borrow, whatever you need, just go to the front desk and Lisa will take great care of you with a smile. There also is no AC, but the ocean breezes and large floor fan keep the air moving and the room at very comfortable temperatures. There are MANY restaurants and shops within walking distance, and Seal Beach is a beautiful sanctuary to see lots of wildlife I never tire of watching. Really can't say enough good and praise our stay enough. it was Perfect for what we were looking for. This is NOT the Four Seasons or Taj Majal, but your not paying this prices either. We will definitely be back ! Thank you for a great stay and great service.

I enjoyed my stay. It’s a bit pricey but you can’t beat that view. Everything was clean and the staff was very friendly. I only wish there was an air conditioner because the room was hot at night. They did provide two big fans and a ceiling fan though. Other than that, we had a great stay in a cute room.

Location was absolutely beautiful. A beautiful view of the ocean. More of a scenic area than swimming, but very close to several coves and cliffs.

Amazing small hotel with spacious rooms overlooking the coast. It's in walking distance to multiple restaurants, shopping, and spots on the coast walk. Check in process after hours was easy. The shared deck has lovely sunset views. Although parking is paid - it's right on site and you can leave your car without needing it again until you leave. Excellent stay!

Great locations and room was cleaned but we had a bottom room and the person above us apparently didnt sleep all night so we heard foot steps all night and had a hard time sleeping.

From the minute we arrived we were treated like we were the only guest here. The front desk was so amazing and our room was beautiful.

Great view of Pacific. Easy access to LaJolla. Room was beachy, not your usual boring hotel.

Loved this little Inn, has a very beachy vibe which I loved. Across the street from the shore, and tons of shops and restaurants in walking distance. Check in was quick. Bathrobes were in room with fridge and coffee maker. Everything the we needed. Would stay here again and I highly recommend.

Location is amazing. Loved waking up and seeing the ocean out our front window. On site management was very helpful and check in was a breeze. I'd definately recommend Scripps Inn, an would come back and stay.
