We absolutely think the property is unique and great! On previous visits we have stayed in one and two bedroom cottages, but this time we had to stay in Sea Gate which is a studio unit! It was the last unit available for our stay. It is very "adorable" and visually peaceful and quiet as well. But it is quite small and it is really only that which causes me to give it four stars instead of five. It was difficult to get into or out of bed....that kind of small. But if we were going there again, and if it was the only unit available, we would still stay there. That's how much we like Redwood Cottages.

We enjoyed the property and how well-cared for it was. We were able to walk around and “discovered” the greenhouse. Our toddler loved it! We stayed in Whispering Sands and liked the homey feel. It was not too noisy and we were able to relax. The beach and restaurants were easily accessible by walking which we did. All in all, we will definitely love to return and stay longer.

Complicated online reservation system. Some definite quirks(office closed on Sunday but Welcome book says they are open everyday). No one onsite after 5:00pm. No instructions on how to run the a/c or coffee maker. The ceiling fan only worked when bedroom light was on. No window screens

Certainly not a luxury resort but doesn’t want to be. My cottage consisted even of 2 huts with a kind of private garden. The second hut was furnished just with a coutch but how cosy…. Situation in La Jolla is perfect. 3 minutes walk to the sea, 5 minutes to restaurants and a supermarket. I recommend it and would come back again if I eber have the chance to visit La Jolla again.

The property is super tiny with paths that are hard to walk and uneven. It’s like a little maze getting to where we were staying. We didn’t get to pick our room and we ended up getting a micro suite. My husband is 6’2” and he barely fit anywhere in the room. I couldn’t walk across the room without hitting my hip on the dresser at the foot of the bed because there was only a foot wide gap between the dresser and bed. For a short stay it was manageable but wouldn’t recommend for anything longer than a night or 2. The walls are super thing too which is actually stated in their welcome packet because it’s an old property. We could hear when people were talking outside our room and when our neighbor showered. We did also have an incident where someone tried to go into our suite in the early morning. Thankfully we were checking out anyway. The staff were nice. We didn’t interact with them much but when we did they were as accommodating as possible.

One significant issue was the $500 charge to my card for a deposit on incidentals. Although I had read about it during booking, I was later informed that I wouldn’t be charged. The charge only appeared on my account the morning of checkout, which was confusing and unexpected. While I enjoyed the area, the surprise charge left a sour note on an otherwise pleasant stay.

Our family stayed here for 3 nights and absolutely loved it! We were in Whispering Pines, a small cottage suitable for a family of 3. It had a fully equipped kitchen, large bathroom and comfortable living space. I loved that the cottage had been renovated enough to meet our needs but still retained the old charm. The gardens and patios around each cottage are beautiful and so serene. It's a very short walk down to the beach and walkable to shops and restaurants too. There are 4 parking spots on-site but there's also free parking on the street. If we ever make it back to La Jolla, we will definitely stay here again.

The Redwood Hollow Cottages are a true gem! Beautiful outdoor spaces and just a couple of blocks from the beach and a short walk to restaurants! The only complaint we had was that there was no curtain to cover the stained glass window at night time. We disliked the outdoor lights coming in at night and were awakened too early by the sunlight coming through the stained glass window in the room with the beds in our cottage (Whispering Sands).

Our cottage was not ready upon check in which was annoying. Property from 1915—so expect the cottages to be a bit funky, albeit charming. The bathroom needs attention: the shower head needs to be updated; our wall-mounted hair dryer did not work; and no toilet paper caddy. Parking is an issue.

This was such a beautiful property and overall very positive stay! The room felt very private secluded despite there being neighbors and the area around was beautifully scenic. Despite the bed being a little hard for our taste the decor felt modern and incredibly clean. The neighborhood cat was a pleasant surprise that only added to the home-like feeling. It’s situated a couple blocks from town and not even five minutes walking from a beautiful beach, you have everything you’ll want or need. We weren’t able to use much in the kitchen but it was fully equipped with everything you’d need. The two younger staff members that checked us in were beyond sweet and helpful, all the paperwork and keys were ready and waiting for me to check in. Overall one of our most positive vacation experiences. We can’t wait to come back and stay at different cabins.

Cute but property has not been maintained well. "Sitting area" very limited. Mold in bathroom. No housekeeping during my 6 day stay. Duvet stained. Took out own trash, made own bed, etc. Nothing much on website to indicate this. Disappointed for price. Office staff very nice. Would not stay again.

The outdoor space of the property was nice but the apartment was old with old furnitures that seemed taken and put together from the grandma basement . You could hear during the night the people walking , using bathroom in the apartment above . The heating also was very noisy to the extent that was waking me up. I stayed in the Hemingway room . Maybe the others are better.

Such an escape. Surrounded by the beauty of La Jolla and all the other condos and homes that seem packed in but Redwood Hollow still feels quaint and separate. Each unit feels completely like it’s own haven - and have their own beautiful gardens. This is truly a wonderful respite. The only negative was the TV didn’t work great but we didn’t really spend much time trying to watch tv because we were at the numerous things to enjoy in the area - beach and tide pools in walking distance, sea lions, surfing, kayaking, paddle boarding, just sitting on the beach, visiting the various stores in the area, enjoying a truly remarkable dinner at The Taco Stand - seriously worth the wait (I guess the secret is out on this place), and twenty minutes from all the other sites in San Diego, Mission Bay, Coronado. Truly an amazing trip and we were always so happy to come home.

There are a few drawbacks! This lovely property needs a full time office person or security all night. I stayed in Le Petite Port and there is a 2 bedroom unit above. You can hear every foot fall and if they come home to continue the party it's tough to get any sleep. Very thin walls/ceiling. The next night, a small group came home at midnight and partied loudly until 2am. Finally, another guest asked them to quiet down. They NEED a NIGHT MANAGER!!! We shouldn't be asking other guests to quiet down for this price level accommodations.

The cottages are a great option for those looking for accommodations with a home-like feel. The kitchens are a nice option to make your own meals. It would be nice though if the kitchens were slightly more stoked with staples like tea bags and coffee. When you're only staying for the weekend, it feels like overkill to buy a bag of ground coffee at the store. Otherwise, cottages are well-kept, grounds are nice and secluded, and you can't beat the proximity to the beach!

This was a charming property and clean. There were a few glitches at the beginning in terms of unit assigned and the property working on the water pipes. We were without water the first night but it got resolved quickly the next day with no further issues. The manager was very accommodating as was the main property overseer. The setting was quaint and fairly quiet though at first there were workmen nearby. That only happened once. The room was comfortable and had good bedding and bathroom towels and supplies. They even had beach towels and robes you could use. It was a quick walk to the coastline. Calls can tend to get dropped in that area even with Wifi usage. Parking is sometimes at a premium. I would return because they went out of their way to make up for the first night issues concerning water turned off. They gave us a full refund. You cannot beat that.

This is a lovely property with beautiful patios and very quiet. It is not for someone who wants luxury bathrooms and modern kitchens. It is quaint, with beautiful accent pieces but remember these cottages were built in 1915, and retain some of that heritage . I've rented two different cottages and have been very happy with both.

We got a free upgrade. Our cabin was gorgeous. Classic and rustic and super comfortable. Not right next to the beach but close enough to walk to the Children's Beach in the morning and see the seals. I wish we had spent more timeon the property because it was so cozy and nice. We're going to stay again in the spring.

Something a bit different to local alternatives - nice relaxed atmosphere, very quiet. Our room "La Petite Porte" was a bit tight in terms of living space, but had a lovely patio outside. If we were returning I would book a different room, particularly as we could hear a lot of noise from other guests upstairs.

The 2nd bedroom with the bath had a newer firmer mattress. The 3rd room (not really bedroom because there's no window) had a day bed with thin a mattress. The kids didn't really complain. Another recommendation for the place is to install a dishwasher and garbage disposable. The dishwasher I think is key because it will sanitize the dishes for the next renter. The rental policy requires that you do the dishes upon checkout. This implies the next renter must rely on the prior renter for how clean the dishes are. We re-wash the dishes before using to reduce the risk of contracting anything... like cold sores, Hep-A, mono, etc. Aside from that, the kitchen is well stocked with ample of plates, bowls, glassware, pots, pans and cooking utensils. You really have everything to cook a real dinner. Lastly, it would be nice if the place came with some beach toys and bikes. There are plenty of puzzles and books to read on the shelves. The TVs are flat LCDs but they are not smart TVs. You'll have to bring your fire stick or other media devices to stream shows.

The property is a block from the beach and this is just a super peaceful place in a gorgeous garden setting. There was a neighbor that leaves their outside light on all night long that shines directly into our cottage, and with the sheer curtains it did let way too much light in. The bed was super high and for a short gal, it was a little difficult to get in bed. Although once in bed, it was a fabulous bed! Oveeall nice place, we would stay here again.
