Candlewood Suites Fort Myers Sanibel Gateway by IHG

Stayed across the street from the hospital for the birth of my granddaughter. It served its purpose, no frills but accomplished what I needed for my stay.

I booked Two rooms for my contractors, each room had kitchenette- they found roaches in the sink, in the bathroom and coffee maker… one of my contractors got bit with bed bugs bites all over his legs and back, he had to take Benadryl to ease the reaction. One of the burners were not working. I contacted the hotel via chat on Expedia and no response. I am a platinum member on Expedia booking rooms for my construction business since 2019, thousands of dollars has been spent on Expedia, I couldn’t even get through to them either. This review is not only for this disgusting hotel but also for the lack of response through the Expedia system as well. The principle matters, guest should not have to be fooled with photos or renderings of hotels that are not properly inspected or vetted. Do not be fooled my the images or the outdoors of this hotel, inside it has roaches and bed bugs. You’ve been warned!!!!!!!

This is a perfect hotel for couples and families that like to feel home away from home so much to do in the hotel, swimming pool, gym, laundry facilities I don't to Sanibel Island we loved it next time we will use the amenities. Thank you for a cozy room .

There is NO breakfast. They have the convenience store with microwaveable food. Theres no restaurant to buy breakfast to order as advertised.

I stayed here the night before and all was well. The next night, I had to check in again and no one was there. So I waited. Then I called. Then I waited some more. Called some more times. I waited so long that I tried to make another reservation at a nearby hotel. I was in the process of making a reservation at a Hampton inn when finally someone casually strolled out of a hallway to the front desk. I surprised her I guess as she wasn’t expecting anyone…I got my room key and then tried to get some ice. The machine is broken. I get to my room at 0200 after arriving at the hotel at 0130 or even earlier and planned on a good nights sleep as I had to be at the nearby hospital with my family. At 0830 someone literally barged into my room. No knock, just aggressively entered and turned on the light. I yelled and jumped out of bed to find a large man in my room. I think he worked at the hotel. He didn’t identify himself or have a uniform on. He left. I tried to sleep again and couldn’t. At 1000, someone actually knocked this time which was less bad than entering without notice I guess. I opened my door in a towel and 3 people are staring at me. The older lady asks when im leaving. She was irritated I was in the room I paid for. The other two people are staring at me with slight hostility and irritation. I asked what time check out is. She said 11. I told her to come back later and closed my door. Don’t stay here if you’re at the hospital.

The staff make this hotel great. It’s a basic hotel, but it’s across from the children’s hospital. I thought my ac wasn’t working at 0130 when I checked in. Front desk lady came upstairs to troubleshoot, showed me what I was doing wrong and solved my issue. Next day, I decided to extend my stay and spoke to front desk staff again to enquire avoit pricing. It was cheaper to book on the app instead of direct. She kept my same room tor me despite being two seperate reservations and went out of her way to save me $$$ and limit confusion with checking back in.

This property had the cleanest pool I’ve seen at a hotel. The staff is excellent and friendly. A very comfortable place to stay. I love that they have free washers and dryers. Traveling alone I felt very safe there.

Overall our stay was very nice!! The pool had limited sun due to the building obstructing it, bet the area was nice, clean and had a grill area. The free laundry facility was a great amenity! If I had any complaint it would be the shower head was a bit strong, sensitive skin or a child would not have done well with that. Very nice stay, I would go back there. It was a little difficult navigating to the hotel.

The staff offered to move us to another room, but it was late at night and we were all settled in, so they were nice enough to have maintenance promptly replace both appliances with brand new ones. It was our decision to stick it out for a few more nights on the mattress. I would have expected a more premium mattress to sleep on for an upgraded hotel like this. Always test out the mattress in the room you're assigned too before you unpack your things to avoid situations like this. A great night sleep is of the most utmost importance when travelling.

Not much except proximity to beaches …organized concession area, gym and laundry. Smelly room(doggy doo doo) cramped, no outlets by night stand for charging. .NO housekeeping until after a week. No vacuum to keep room clean since they only come around once a week. Take out your own garbage WTF??? Really? The worst was the noise from the freezer’s compressor turning on and off all night long. The HVAC was noisy as heck too. Had to shut both appliances off at night to get any sleep. Staff did NOTHING too make amends said I had to speak to BOOKING.COM. Also was locked out of room twice with the most recent one lasting about 25 minutes letting my piping hot food get ice cold. Oh and good luck getting anyone at the front desk at different hours of the day and night. THE ABSOLUTE WORST THING I DIDN’T REALIZE IS THAT THIS IS A PET/HUMAN HOTEL EMPHASIS ON PET OBVIOUSLY. ABSOLUTELY DREADFUL EXPERIENCE. I WOULDN’T RECOMMEND THIS EXCEPT MAYBE TO MY WORST ENEMY. ONLY PLUS WAS THE BED WAS VERY COMFORTABLE AND MOST THINGS SEEMED PRETTY CLEAN THAT’S IT. Forgot to mention this is not a safe location in that it is excessively secluded and is very dimly lit with only a few lights on I had my car possibly staked out. I could see fingerprints on the windows as I was putting gas the other day.

I have been here in the past with my husband and we always liked it, it's been a while since we came, I see the comments and really in my experience here, it was and is very nice, very clean everything from the reception to the room, very well taken care of the details in the room, for the person who cleaned my room, keep it up, the sheets smelled very good and all the amenities complete, we will definitely come back

Hotel is a good spot to explore south florida from. I had an issue with my first room, TV didnt work and fridge was musty. They moved me with zero fuss and my second room was good. Located at the end of a dead end and would be good for a work trip.

Everything was great! Staff was very friendly and welcoming, it’s a quite location and the rooms have been big and clean. It’s a bit far from everything except a park so I recommend coming with a car. But parking is for free then which is great!

Location It had a weird smell, the bed was not properly made and it was way too soft, ac was very loud, there was no hand soap to wash your hands, the elevator was not working on the 4th floor, it would go up but not go down from 4th floor

I was so impressed by this particular Candlewood Suites. Upon arrival everything was above and beyond. I was staying there to visit my husband at Healthpark Hospital for open heart surgery. I felt frightened and the staff had shared my problem with me. Showering me with a vase of flowers and a desk like picture of a letter telling me they commended me for my bravery during this time. It was signed by all employees and stated how happy they could show compassion to my family as our roads crossed. I will never forget this Candlewood Suites in Fort Myers Fl. near Sanibel Gateway.

Bed and pillows were comfortable. I couldn't get the clock time to set properly, I didn't need it, but it was annoying. There was no hand soap by the sick in the bathroom, so I used the body soap from the shower. The rest of the experience was pleasant and I'd stay there again. Great value for the price.

I had stayed for a week. This is a great place if you need a long stay and on a budget. The staff was friendly and helpful. They have plenty of things to help with your stay such as, FREE laundry, pool, gym, a checkout wall of various things that maybe you hadn't brought or needed to borrow, a shopping mart, and 24/7 coffee. They were helpful and wanted to accommodate any way they can. The area around is nice as long as you aren't looking for quick walk accessibility like restaurants or sites. They are next to a school and just a block down is the park that has walking paths around a pond, dog parks, and courts. If I were in need of another extended stay, this would probably be my choice in the area.

Had a minor issue with first room, staff moved us no question to a different room. If you are in Ft. Meyers this is a great option in a good location. The only possible con is no breakfast but we did not miss it.

I chose this hotel because of the convenience of having a full kitchen and we were happy to be able to use it after we got a few kinks that had to be worked out but all in all he had a very comfortable time. We thought the pool area would be a lot nicer not only was a deserted, but it was no hot tub. It just wasn't inviting looking. The pool was very clean and nice and warm so we did enjoy that. There was no continental breakfast of any kind and I always feel that when you pay over $200 per night they should least be a continental breakfast available. The front desk staff, including Brandy were exceptional very very friendly and helpful. Being an IGH member made it nice to have a 2 o'clock check out.

As a single woman traveling for business, I did not feel safe. The second night there, a man tried following me to my room. I am sure it was a one time thing but I was not comfortable and checked out early.

The coffee maker had to be replaced twice whichvthe staff was quick to do. If i have any complaint it was the bed, it was like sleeping on a granite slab.

The cleaning staff was very loud. Doors slamming all night throughout the floor. Dogs barking. Pool was not open as advertised. It looks like people congregate in parking lot and are living out of cars. They were doing brake jobs while I was there.

The next morning, the staff provided me another room which was perfect. After that, I had no more issues. The kitchen wasn't as well equipped as I would have liked, but it was probably adequate for most people.

Also, my room had fleas. I am a serious pet lover. So I feel for the pet, but I don't need fleas or to take them home to my pets... Otherwise the room was really nice. Big bathroom etc.

Property was under construction and we were not notified. First room had no flushing toilet, no ac and was dirty. Second room when I demanded another room. Second room didn't have a flushing toilet, bed was horrendous and couldn't sleep, no ac and was dirty. We had a second reservation they refused to cancel and refund but I wouldn't stay again.

Our experience was got awful. We had two separate rooms and the toilets didn’t flush in either room. The mattresses were so old and uncomfortable. It was like you were sleeping on a brick of hammocks. The air-conditioning didn’t work in the hotel. There was lots of riffraff amongst many other issues and they won’t even let me cancel my next booking.

Comfortable stay and friendly staff. Only downside was noisy fan in room. Room with kitchenette was very nice. Big and roomy suite.

My key cards kept deactivating which is very inconvenient and one of the front desk lady was very rude about assisting me. I won’t be staying here again. It’s nice but very inconvenient for people who don’t have a vehicle

Have to go through a back door to get in, entryway closed for construction. Checked in at random table set up in hallway. Thermastat in room is just for looks.

The hotel was under construction. Was not notified that the place was being renovated until i had already paid. Not very happy.

As someone using Candlewood Suites as a long term option in a transitional time, I am quite impressed. I needed a place that would take my 2 dogs and provide a comfortable and safe place to stay while looking for permanent residency. Although It’s recovering from the hurricane you don’t feel it. It’s clean, quiet and I feel very safe. I feel like I’m the only one here 😂 I have a kitchenette, comfortable bed and great space. Free laundry and housekeeping every 5 days. All the staff are so nice and accommodating. So close to the beaches and all shopping. It’s not the Hilton, but for the great price and value…. It’s fantastic!!

I had a 3rd floor room (according to other reviews 1st floor was remodeled after hurricane Ian so those are probably nicer)

My wife and I have stayed here 3 times and have never been disappointed. The rooms are apartment like ,a small kitchen. Always clean.

The tub was dirty with sand on arrival - since we only spent a single night we didn’t see a need to make a big deal of it. The card key system seemed broken and took a few minutes every time we tried entering our room. The property was located adjacent to a high school, and wasn’t walkable to anything significant for our family. I’d likely explore other lodging options in the future.

This hotel is coming back from hurricane damage and they are putting finishing touches on some areas. The setting is quiet, beds and pillows were very comfortable! The pool was heated. The staff was very friendly and accomodating.

I understand the place way hit by the hurricane a year ago but the hotel it self need a mayor upgrade, it feels like a senior citizen facility very old and super outdated, also the maintenance need to be better , faucet leaks , and small sinks , miss matching furniture and old , ac is at living area and a fan to pass air to the bedroom, so wired if you turn the ac out the bedroom have only that fan access and it make noise, if you unplug the fan than the room so hot you can’t sleep , so outdated this is like from the 1970 hotels not 2024 , staff was super nice but hotel is not

First room smelled like cat urine and mildew, mattress severly stained, main level under renovation, changed rooms and smelled better but the keypad on door didn’t work and then had to slam the door really hard to get the door to close.

Heavy construction qhich we were warned about but also no hand soap, no tv, very few towels...just not good.

Staff were very friendly. It's a no frills establishment, but clean and met our needs.
