Royal Inn

I booked my stay through Expedia. I arrived at the Royal Inn at 9PM and was told that there was a problem with the internet, so they were looking for my booking. Eventually the attendant took my passport and showed me to my room. At about 10PM there was a knock on my door. I was not expecting anyone and had no confidence in the area of town I was in, so I did not immediately answer. It was the same hotel attendant, who then began to pound on my door and yell at me that they could not find my booking and that I needed to leave immediately. I was perturbed and showed him my booking on my phone. I tried to remain calm but he was infuriated, which rattled me. He said I needed to leave and he was going to call the police. I decided to call the police myself. While on the phone with the police, the owner of the hotel arrived. During our conversation, I contacted Expedia, who confirmed both my booking reference and the Hotel Confirmation number, indicating that the Royal Inn should have had my booking on file, The Royal Inn claimed they did not. I am more inclined to believe Expedia than the Royal Inn. I was forced to cancel my Expedia booking and pay the hotel directly, in cash. I woke up the next morning with a large bite on my back and found a blood-filled bedbug under the covers. I have pictures and video evidence of this. It was a terrible experience and I would not recommend anyone staying here.

This is an old Days Inn. The motel has no sign at its entrance. Musty smell across the entire property. Room was clean - after I got checked in, which took a while due to staff not being at front desk for well over five minutes. Not recommended; this motel needs a LOT of TLC to be considered welcoming.

There were roaches in our rooms the whole place was nasty. Totally unkept! I was very embarrassed because I made the reservations for all 3 rooms. This was my first time on Expedia and I won’t be back!

Room and premises are so terrible. Room was leaks on ceiling, no power at some area such as phone, tv, etc. no basic necessary items such bathroom utilities. People crashed lines on my car at parking lot.

This is an older property but the room was actually quite nice. Clean, quiet, good heat/air unit. Good for an overnight stay while traveling.

Inside of the room is acceptable. AC, heating, fridge, microwave, shower work well. Outside stairs, doors look bad, ice makers broken.

This was the absolute worst hotel on the universe.It would have been better to sleep outside.The bathroom was dirty.The bed had cigarette hose in it.The room smelled like cigarette.It was, uninhabitable, it was worse than that i called expedia immediately to get a refund and get another room.the company i reserved this hotel i called the the hotel, and they said that I had been there for an hour and they would not refund my money.I literally was there for thirty minutes.And during thirty minutes after seeing the second room, cause the first one was atrocious, I immediately grabbed my things and left.I asked for a refund. they told me that the manager of the hotel was unwilling to give me a refund.I had pictures at documentation.This hotel was absolutely uninhabitable and expedia is absolutely ridiculous for not even asking me or asking me to verify what pictures or anything that just would not give me back my money.So I probably won't be using them again either.And letting everyone that I know not to book with them

Would not recommend booked in a hurry last minute traveling from Pa noticed multiple syringe caps on ground outside room enter room and water marks down wall next to bed and mold in bathroom needless to say I instantly got my deposit back and left

The place does not look clean in the lobby or elsewhere. The repairs done to the rooms are quiet visible when a customer should not be able to tell there was repairs. It looked like a dump. I stayed with them because it was one of the closer rooms to Duke. I won't be staying with them again. Oh on your website they have smoking and non-smoking rooms. Yet when you sign in they tell the smokers they will be charged $250 per incident. I don't smoke and did not want a non-smoking room but you can see that form was incompetence, if not illegal.

The place was horrible! Refrigerated not working something dried running down the wall. No toilet paper holder no lid to the toilet, sink ran slow 1/2 plugged. All the doors falling off entertainment center, no batteries in remote when asked for some was told don’t have any. More cigarette holes in the bed covers than the screens. One swift kick and the door would be open.

The first room I got had paint coming off of the walls in a corner from the ceiling to the floor and some kind of trash around the air conditioner. The second room had the smell of “meth” coming from another room. Then was told that the world put the money back on my card. Paid $81 for the room and got a receipt for $51. I’ll never stay here again!!!

This property look and smell like a crackhead infested motel. The rooms were disgusting, with water damage walls and roaches. I check in and check back out the same day. They stated that a manager would get in touch with me regarding a refund, but i've haven't heard from anyone regarding this issue.

The best I can say about this Days Inn was that our bed and bathroom were clean. and it was 10 min away from Duke Hospital. The motel is terrible! We will NOT stay there again!

Found several dead cockroaches including one between the mattress and box spring. Mattress cover had big brown spots. Tons of mold, brown liquid splashed on the inside of the door. Old candy on the floor. Clearly had not been vacuumed. My socks turned brown from walking on the carpet. Property refused a refund on our two night stay even though we left two hours after checking in.

This hotel sits behind another closed hotel, the front sign fell off, one of the front doors is boarded up, the front lobby has all sorts of junk in it.

And worst, cockroaches crawling up door frame... I have a video. Very sketchy people and I believe I witnessed a drug deal. There was no sign on hotel lobby car overhang, just outline where it should’ve been. Rooms not soundproofed at all. I did not feel safe and worried about germs/bugs/rodents the entire time… so gross.

The room had an stale cigarette smell even though it was supposed to be a non smoking room. The blanket on the bed had cigarette burns in it. There was trash in the trash can when we checked in. The bathroom floor was soaking wet. Over all not a pleasant experience. I would recommend staying somewhere else.

After checking in, I received knock on door, saying I didn't pay. I then go back to front desk, pay again. The next day, I ask for towels, housekeeper looks at me like I'm not staying there for two days 😔. I then call front desk about double charge. They assure me I will receive my money. I never received towels or refund. When I checkoutat front desk, I let them know I have not received money back. I am still waiting

Disgusting hotel! Burn holes in the blankets. Mold all over the door frame. Stains all on the sheets. Dirty toilet paper left in the toilet. Absolutely useless staff. Called the desk to voice my concerns last night. She said they had no bedding that they could switch out for the stained, burn holes bedding. There were MAYBE 4 cars in the parking lot and I walked past a plethora of empty rooms. Said I could downgrade to a full bed (from a king) but would not refund me the cost difference. Said if I wanted a refund then I would have to go somewhere else. Whoever runs this place should be thoroughly ashamed of how awful it is. The staff should also be ashamed in showing absolutely zero ownership or pride in their (minimal) work. For the love of all that is holy, look elsewhere to stay.

The room was dirty. The heat did not work well. There was a not so pleasant smell coming from the outside area. The outside light by my door was strobing.

Difficult to find the facility ( located behind gas station and another hotel), needs renovations, adjoining room door did not fully close- had to jam a chair up against the door knob, the room smelled terrible. Only regular electric outlets- no usb ports for charging. On a positive note, AC worked great, bathroom sink looked new and was very clean. Would not stay here again unless I was desperate.

The property was not very clean and many things in the room were damaged (lamp/bureau/etc). They placed me in an exterior room across the parking lot from a budget hotel which made me feel quite unsafe. I didn’t sleep well because I could hear someone knocking on doors throughout the night. Ultimately, I was so uncomfortable that I chose to forgo the free breakfast and left at 4am instead.

We arrived a couple hours early .Did a 12 hour drive .Our room was ready very nicely remodeled room 2 big plushy beds with lots of pillows room was clean and fresh . Check in was quick and easy . Quiet place no late night noise..

I would never recommend this hotel... there were roaches electrical outlets falling out the wall. All the wall lamps were leaning and some weren't even connected... i was even instructioned to pull the large furniture out to plug in the lamp myself... the clerk told me the roaches were ok don't worry about them... I'm still traumatized

When we arrived the pool looked nice but was locked almost the whole time. Besides that when we got into our room it smelled of mold, but we tried pushing past this. The smell made us so sick we ended up going to a friend's house 45 minutes away. When we returned the next day to get our clothes the ceiling was tearing and a bunch of dust was all over the dresser. Unsure if this was from the people upstairs or if the building was just breaking down

People in parking lot loud and shady. Room faucets are loose and toilet feels like your going to fall

I am writing to express my concern about the conditions we encountered during our recent stay at your hotel last night, Aug 31- Sept 1st. Upon arrival, we discovered mold growing on the first layer of the bed sheets in our room 112. This is a serious health hazard, as mold exposure can lead to respiratory issues and other health problems. Additionally, the sheets were dirty. While we understand that sometimes the appearance of a room may not be perfect, the presence of mold on the bed sheets is unacceptable. We are very concerned about the potential health risks associated with mold exposure, including the possibility of inhaling mold spores and becoming ill. Due to these unsatisfactory and hazardous conditions, we respectfully request a full refund for our stay. We hope that you will take our concerns seriously and address these issues to ensure the safety and well-being of your guests. Thank you for your attention to this matter. The door to our room opened without the key. Management worked quickly to get us a new room, and were very nice. The faucet in the tub incessantly leaked and had to throw a towel down so we wouldn’t have to hear it. Door didn’t seem to shut all the way and showed the light from the outside.

It was musty, dingy and not well kept. Sure they cleaned sheets and towels but the door had black mold and the bathroom door was creaky and didn't lock (this was important because my 1 year old kept opening it while we were using it). There were cracks all around the room between the walls and floor and were not cleaned in a while. The free 'breakfast' was a bag with Sunny D, crackers, a fruit and a mini muffin. The staff was friendly enough but they know what kind of place it is.

Convenient location to Hospital.

Everything was good until I woke up the next morning and heard that there is no free breakfast, $20 a person for breakfast

The room was very convenient to parking and easy to get luggage in. Bathroom and bedding was exceptionally clean.

The front desk clerk the first day was amazing. She lent me a charger cable. Couldn’t have been nicer. Room was nice and clean. Pool was lovely.

we were in town for a hospital visit. walked in the lobby and I asked my friend is there pool open? and the lady behind the counter said it's only for guest. not hello or welcome. She was very rude and unhappy. the room was clean enough but the people knocking on the door in the middle of the night was unpleasant. the breakfast area was not there. breakfast came in a bag and no coffee. door dash gave our food to another room. also wanted to charge me another $100 dollars once i got there. when it was already paid for. it was non refundable. I ask just in case it was for insidentals. she said no. for your bag each person had to go get there own.Never have I had this type of stay at a days inn.

Our room smelled musty, had so much mold on the ceiling, remotes for TV did not work, empty beer bottles left outside of the railing infront of our rooms, found 3 razor blades from the parking lot to our room, dried blood on the shower curtain (we didnt even know until the next morning). When I checked out, I told the lady out front that I wanted a refund, her exact words were, " Thank you for bringing it to our attention. We did not know this. The manager isn't here right now and I cant issue that." Very disappointed and will not go back.

That was the dirtiest room l have stayed in since l was a teenager. Everything nasty. Dirt and junk all around the bed we got clean sheets and clorox and cleaned as best as we could. Never stay there again

The rooms smelled, the pool was broke. The paint was chipping on the walls. No smoke detectors. Broken appliances. The bathrooms were full of mildew and mold. The outside appearance was just as run down. Landscaping did not appear to be kept up. The linens were stained and ripped. I can go on for ever. Expedia you should not advertise this hotel as it does not appear as it does in pictures. No wonder they are all night pictures. False advertisement to the max.

Beds and linens clean , room mostly clean , except on sides of bed stand and under side of bed with a lot of crumbs and debris . Mold on side of bedside stand , from someone spilling a drink I guess. Shower didn’t drain well, wasn’t level . Bag breakfast only , no coffee, nothing hot .

Hotel access confusing. Grounds could have been cleaner. 94 degree weather without working ice machines. Don't think I will stay there again.

Our stay was pleasant we only ran into a couple of situations however the staff was courteous and very consistent.

Could be a nice quaint place, but it is very run down.

Once in the room, we found bottle caps and mentos wrappers under the beds, but still within view without physically being on the floor. My top green blanket had a blood stain on it, and the bathroom did not look like it had been cleaned since the previous guest. There was debris on the floor, toilet paper stuffed in the door stopper, as well as in the peep hole for room door. The area itself is run down and the hotel is situated behind a sketchy gas station and another hotel. I wasn't pleased, at all, with how this hotel was advertised and then actually presented so much differently. 0\10 not worth the price and regret booking here.

Property on exterior was littered with trash; parking lot had unsafe potholes; people were loitering just a few feet away from the property. Never saw a maintenance worker working at the property.

I did not like this place at all. I am trying to get a refund. Too much drug activity and it smells awful and is unclean.

Wasn’t too comfortable with the area. Overall my experience was okay. I wouldn’t choose this location again.

Location and Accessibility

I booked this hotel for a weekend trip to visit family and upon arrival the check in process was no problem at all smooth and easy, once i got to my room the door was a little tuff to open and the light swith by the door seems to serve no purpose as it did not turn anything on or off that i could see, the soap they provide is horrible as i forgot mine at home but it was the size of a quarter and very hard i brought my own from a store the next day could not use that, the view i had was of another hotel that had a lot of late night traffic and loud music, the showers do not have any no slip mats in them so i did almost slip and fall in there a few times while this was not a horrible stay it was not the best either if i was not by myself this time i would not have stayed here due to the quality

The staff was nice and I feel bad for leaving this review but the hotel advertisement is quite misleading from the pictures. The hotel was old, many things didn’t work. The pool had no water in it. It was musty. The toilet clogged on first use. Have to open the door a certain way for it to work. Hole on the comforter (not really a huge deal, just noting here for age description.) we actually left after 5 mins to get another hotel.

Other than that everything was great, they had a wonderful breakfast in the morning!!!

Overall horrible experience, pool was not in working condition, hot water was non existent, also no breakfast, Overall one of my worst experiences!

There was water leaking from the bathroom’s ceiling in the room during my stay.
