Courtyard Durham Near Duke University/Downtown

Location was nice. Staff was friendly.

This property is very run down and in desperate need of renovation. Our bed sheets had holes, the siding of walls was literally coming off, stains all throughout carpeting in the building (numerous floors, stairway), grime from years of use in bathroom fixtures etc.

Bryan was very helpful in getting the room we needed.

The room was lovely. Bedding, wonderful. It was very noisy with banging and doors slamming which made it hard to sleep.

No clean towels at the pool. Beds we got were hard as rocks. Breakfast available means pay for it. Had I known that I would have never booked our stay here. Thankfully we were only staying one night.

House keeping was non-existent. We stayed four nights and did not get a re-fresh once. Additional towels were offered, "on-request", only. With so much competition out there it seems, to me, that they would offer more. Next time I travel I will seek out a facility that seems to welcome me, not one that wants to take me! Just my opinion.

It was a great experience especially from the staff. The barista was exceptionally pleasant and warm hearted each morning. The only complaint I would have was in regard to our bedsheets not being changed daily. Otherwise, we really enjoyed our short stay and look forward to coming back soon!

It was clean-ish mostly. Bathroom looked fine, but other things were dirty, like the headboard of the bed the doors in the elevators were gross. Housekeeping is every other day. The beds are HORRENDOUS! They're Thin, I could feel the metal springs. So I won't be staying again.

Beautiful place , staff grwat Ti anna at the front desk from 3 to 11 shift was great! Ask her to play uno with us but her supervisor would not let her. Court yard was nice bistro was great as well. Thank you for a wonderful stay. We will be back some day. Mattress in 108 was a little worn and bumpy.

Spouse and I stayed two nights for a golf tournament. Very convenient and safe feeling location. Some updates in progress, but a little worn in places. Starbucks location in lobby during breakfast hours and associate was very nice, However , with only one person working it, there was some delay in getting breakfast.

Courtyard by Marriott in Durham is a comfortable stay, works for its price range. Nothing to get excited about or really to complain about. When we checked in, we found the bathtub wasn't draining well; took them a day to fix it, but they did. Pool looked nice!

This hotel was awesome. It was in a great location from Duke University. The staff likewise, were pleasant and very attentive to our needs.

Carpets throughout were stained, sheers in room were torn and room very tired. Clean but in need up updating. Disappointing overall for the price of the room. Hotel is close to Duke and we did find a great place to eat. Try Local 22 Kitchen & Bar. Very good restaurant, reasonably priced nice atmosphere. Would have chosen a different hotel if condition was known ahead of time.

Lobby was nice and inviting. The registration staff were pleasant. We were there for my son’s MBA graduation and they had treat bags for the graduation guests. 😁 The hotel room was clean The decor was a little dated but not terribly. Toilet was constantly running but we were so busy there was no time to report it. Breakfast was limited and according to my son “Meh” so we got Dunkin Donuts. Checkout was effortless.

The staff at this hotel were some of the nicest and most helpful people. Everyone we interacted with was amazing. The rooms were a little dated but definitely clean.

We arrived at 6:45 pm and they said there was no room available as they were still cleaning. My wife has health issues and I said I need a room. I said I would take a lesser room just to have one. When we got to the room it hadn’t been cleaned yet and smelled of weed. They gave us another room and it was 75 degrees in there and the A/C didn’t work. We had to wait in our vehicle for almost an hour until there was a room clean and suitable. Staff apologized and said they only had 1 person there to clean for the day and they were behind. Others were still waiting after us. It was 2 hrs after arrival before we could settle in. There was no complementary breakfast and only coffee available was what you could make in your room in the mini coffee maker.

Delightful environment, great staff, great cookies. HOWEVER, the smell of pot permeated the 4th floor and elevator. In a property that makes clear it’s no smoking policy, I would have thought that included pot. Our room smelled gross.

Did not like the fact that my room had a sliding glass door that opened straight to the back yard, very unsafe for a woman traveling alone. Also was under the impression a free breakfast was included with the reservation, which I was denied at the bistro. The attendee could not make change for a $20 bill and the credit card machine wasn't working. I left hungry because I'd already checked out of my single nights stay. The lady at the register at least took pity on me and gave me a free cup of coffee.

The hotel is tucked away in a safe and quiet area with easy access to the nearby interstate. Provided a great night's rest for a business trip.

We stayed at this hotel twice on our way south and back. The first time was not good. The toilet was very low to the ground which was difficult for us as we are in our 80s. There was no handsoap at the sink so we had to reach across the tub to the body wash every time we needed to wash our hands. The second time we asked for an accessible room which solved the toilet problem and there was soap.

The beds were very painful. Couldn’t stay both nights due to the beds and the manager was not helpful at all trying to resolve it.

The facility was very good. Service was very poor. The desk staff was very poor. She was talking to someone on the phone - about his upcoming stay on SPEAKER. She never looked up as we were checking out. So we just left our keys and left. No complimentary coffee in AM. There was someone sitting in the lobby that morning that just looked up at me and said “The service here is terrible”.

The beds were comfortable and the bathroom was well-lit. The Starbucks/Bistro breakfast was over-priced, the Business Center computers & printer were down and front desk didn't know how to fix, and GoogleMaps brings you into the back entrance so you have to circle to the front.

Perfectly adequate. We needed a room change because the first room assigned smelled like smoke. Also, curtains were shredded.

Service was sub par. They only do housekeeping every other day, but it took three days before I saw a clean set of towels. Then the person at the front argued with me a bit to say that I shouldn’t expect service on a Sunday. What’s it all about?

The staff was very friendly and everything but I didn’t get the room I reserved because there weren’t any available when I arrived. I was given a completely different room without my knowledge after I was told I would get the room I reserved when one came available. Then I had to go to the bank to make a deposit because they only accept card payments which I also did not know until I arrived. Other than that my stay was ok.

Breakfast was an additional fee so we went elsewhere. There was an unexpected $75 fee for my pet. It took way too long for the staff to locate my reservation when checking in.

Not your typical courtyard Marriott experience. Waited 7 minutes just waiting for someone to show up to the front desk just to check in. Had to resort to calling the darn place to have the phone ring about 100 times when a groggy laggard finally showed. Didn’t offer me any upgrades for Bonvoy Gold Elite status and forgot to give me the welcome back. The room was very basic with a tiny wash basin area outside of the shower room and the beds are more of full size than queen size. There is a stench of old hotel vibe in the hall way and in the room. My room also had about 4 lady bugs. Don’t know why. The common areas are ok. This isn’t a Courtyard. It shouldn’t be. At the next Marriott’s Quality Assurance, I’ll make sure to get someone at Marriott issues a deficiency report.

Kenya the bartender and server was amazing...best part of our stay. Otherwise, there were opportunities. First night, an alarm went off at 5 a.m....a "system reset"...scared us to death. We also stayed on 3rd floor and lots of noise late night and early morning from the room above us on 4th floor...not conducive to a good night's sleep at all.

There was mold in the bathroom, thick dust behind the tv stand and it was smelly. There were shoe tracks in the bathroom when we checked in. We had a late checkin and the bed looked clean so we just endured. Did NOT shower though because it was gross.

The staff, especially front desk staff were especially helpful and welcoming, which was greatly appreciated as we had just come in after many hours of driving on college tours. Positive prior reviews on staff was what attracted me to book our reservation. The reviews were accurate. The room was comfortable, easy access from the highway, and they have Starbucks coffee, which was a plus. Recommend.

I just love this place. I have stayed in some other courtyard Marriott, where nobody pays attention to the condition of the actual courtyard. But this one was so clean and there was even a fire pit that the nice young gentleman at the front desk lit for me and my friends. Their kitchen bar area is open until 9 PM which is a nice treat when you get in late.

Kind and attentive staff. The lobby is attractive, and the fitness center and pool area were great. However, sleeping at this facility left me completely unrested. The walls are paper-thin. In the first room we were in, you could hear cars, trucks, motorcycles. It got so bad, we packed up our things, contacted the front desk, and moved to another room in the middle of the night. The new room was great for being away from the highway, but terrible for everything else. We could hear people talking, showering, closing doors. The room next door was so loud in conversation that I had to knock on his door to tell him to talk softer. We should not have been able to hear him in the first place. If you're here for a night or two, it's fine, but any longer, I'd recommend staying elsewhere. This hotel should also consider getting rid of the carpet in the rooms, considering how many people and pets walk on it.

We always stay here when we are in Durham for hospital appointments. This hotel is convenient to the hospitals, eating establishments, gas station, drug store. Not far is grocery also.

It is near Duke University, has a shuttle service on schedule, and a very charming pool and outdoor lounge area. Rooms are nice with a comforting view to inner courtyard.

Multiple night stay, no housekeeping

The bottom of the tub was weird it’s curved and hard to stand in but the water pressure was awesome & hot! I’d stay again Thank You!

Cleanliness was subpar. Lots of unknown stains on furniture. Balcony was littered with crumbs. Top sheet of bed had little black bugs.

The person who checked us in was very kind and helpful. She went out of her way to make us feel comfortable. The property was very clean and our room looked newly renovated. The room was very spacious. We will definitely come back again!

Great stay coming from NY as a halfway point. There was no hot water and no comps for it. Slightly disappointed as a hot shower would be nice! The room was great and so comfy. Best bed we have had in a while.

The hotel was ok, it was is a bit dated, with worn and soiled carpet throughout and very low sitting toilets in the room. I would not want to stay for more than an overnight stay.

Not sure why the housekeeping knocked on the door at 9:30 when we had a 12pm check out. We got in late and wanted to sleep in.

Carpet in the elevator and 2nd floor hallway dirty and stained. Carpet in room stained had to switch to another room. Plastic shower curtain had big mildew stains. Staff very pleasant.

We stay here often and like the location and dining. The staff is professional and kind. The carpet is dated as are some of the furnishing. An upgrade is in order.

All carpets were dirty and stained. Microwave ovens laying in the first floor hallway all nite. Only cleaned our room one day out of three, and then did not do complete job. Very much overpriced for the place. Won't go there again!

Was nice for our one night stay, really enjoyed being able to stream a movie from our prime on their tv.

We have stayed here many times and love the access, walk ables, location , and convenience. Most of all we love the staff and upgraded focus on the customer. We will be back.

Housekeeping never serviced my room even after providing notification that it was too be serviced on the second day of your stay. The furniture was outdated. Huge stains in the elevator carpet

The price was appropriate for the place and parking extremely easy. My only complaint was that there some stains on the sofa, but it was perfectly clean.

I visited this property 12 1/2 years ago, and I doubt it has had a refresh since then. It shows. Nice staff but old and tired facilities.

Very nice but it was long wait to get food order in as well as receiving food when ordered.

When I checked in I met with this lady at the front desk. She was soo nice. My bed was lovely.. warm and comfortable!

I should have looked closer at the age of the hotel. The bathroom had mold around the tub and the “couch” was filthy and looked like it came from the 90’s. I understand there are people who live in hotels, I just feel that maybe putting guest staying longer on one floor and those in town for a weekend on another. Lots of hanging out in the hallway being loud. If I had been traveling alone I would have changed rooms.

Good experience though and I would gladly go back if needed in future. I might request the other side of the building though.

Very nice stay the hotel the staff was very friendly and helpful with my needs. The room was clean. Had the pleasure to meet Joseph the front desk supervisor very pleasant and addressed any concerns that I had in a timely manner. I will definitely be back for another stay. And might I say being able to walk out my room and have a cup of Starbucks what a treat.

There was no hand soap by the sink in the bathroom. The light fixture and outlet on the left side of the bed didn't work. We liked the free hot chocolate and Starbuck counter in the lobby. The bed was comfortable and the HVAC system worked well.

4 day stay but no room service. Had to knock on laundry room to get fresh towels. Rm 147... Bathtub slow drain. Ok if you like standing in soapy water. Why do nearly ALL hotels screw these basics up?? A nice stay otherwise.

Had to move rooms due to guests above us so loud and noisy. Standing water in sink and tub. Bathroom caulk stained and moldy.

I've stayed at many Courtyard by Marriotts. Cheaper, less amenities, but consistently modern and clean. This one is showing its age. The carpet in the hallways and stairwells were dirty and stained. Walls were marred. Lobby tables had food crumbs, stains that remained from morning to afternoon. Room door did not latch firmly - lots of play back and forth when the door was shut and locked - enough so that you could see into the hallway. Front desk staff was great - smiling and very helpful with local questions, etc. I would stay here again if I needed a bed myself, but not up to my spouse's standard.

Overall the stay was alright and served its purpose for a business trip, but the rooms could have been much cleaner. It looked like they just pushed all the carpet crumbs, dirt back underneath the desks & bathroom counter. The door slamming at all hours was also ridiculous; they have some of the heaviest room doors that slam so loudly up and down the hall as people come & go. If you must stay there it will be fine and all the staff were amazing, but they could do better.

It was all very nice and easy access to the venue (2.5 miles). We had dinner across the street at a great Mexican restaurant which was also delicious and reasonably priced.
