Reviews
The hotel is praised for its convenient location, particularly for those attending events at DPAC. The staff is generally described as friendly and helpful. However, there are several complaints about the cleanliness and condition of the rooms, as well as issues with noise and smell. Some guests also express dissatisfaction with the value for money, citing high prices for parking and breakfast.

Loved how close it was to places to eat. Also very convenient when going to see a program at DPAC. one elevator didnt work the night of the show and took for ever to get off of the 2nd floor to the lobby. Also how much the rooms echo'd. I was charged for parking but the parking deck was open the whole time without having to pay if you were just visiting the area.

The hotel is very convenient. Only issue was a glass left outside our door when we checked in that stayed until we checked out. Despite seeing the cleaning staff on the floor, the previous occupants’ glass remained.

Room was great, view was exceptional. The train going right past it in the middle of the night blasting it's horn was not great.

we were not able to get to the hotel on friday or sat as the roads were blocked off due to events cat the DPAC. we had to enter a blocked off street an beg to be let on the street to get to the hotel . the hotel staff were not very helpful as to why we had so much difficulty. We will not stay there again. also there is no restaurant for breakfast only takeout.

Location to restaurants/DPAC That prices were increased drastically. We paid $688 for one night and sad that an $8 breakfast was not included. Room was standard and not work the money. We paid less to stay in the Cesars Palace in Vegas and it was well worth it. Rooms were amazing Will choose another hotel next time and pay uber to get to the DPAC

OK hotel very close to our concert venue. Modern to the point of being sparse and uncomfortable. Very uncomfortable seating in the room-no easy chair or even an upholstered chair. Staff were pleasant but completely overwhelmed-one bar tender for a packed bar and one kitchen person for heating up very underwhelming menu offerings .Not what I expect from a very overpriced Marriott

We are never disappointed with our stay at this particular Aloft! Very comfortable indoor and outdoor lounge areas. Staff is extremely helpful and friendly. Super clean and comfortable. And, the most convenient location for dpac events!! Nana’s steakhouse is one door down. Outstanding restaurant, as well.

Clean rooms, cold refrigerator, excellent staff. A young very patient man at the front desk went above and beyond to help me find my way to the hotel on 2/21 around 4. He stayed on the phone giving turn by turn instructions until I found the hotel. I was thankful! Nothing

RIGHT NEXT TO DPAC. Avoid the traffic and book Aloft Durham Downtown instead! Prime location for an event you’re attending! Parking. The garage is attached, but separate. You have to go outside of the hotel and around to get the garage and vice versa. And there’s a fee too.

This was a stay that was typically out of budget for us, but that’s not something the hotel could “fix” since we made that decision to stay there. The location was the selling point for us and absolutely worth it. Would be willing to stay again, but stays will have to remain short for us.

Really enjoyed my stay. The room was extremely clean and well appointed. The staff was friendly. Check in and out was extremely easy. Parking was easy, just make sure to get your parking pass. The only slight problem is that it was hard to find. I didn't realize it was attached to the DPAC building and the Aloft sign was not easily seen. I didn't eat breakfast so I can address the food.

Arrived a little after 3 pm for check in was told the room was not ready. We were in town for an event at DPAC next door, we walked around for a little bit and next thing you know it was 1.5 hours later and room was still not ready. Asked the front desk attendant she was doing her best, finally we are getting super close to time for our event to begin and our room was ready. It was very hot in the lobby no one apologized offered us a drink or anything for our inconvenience. We arrived in our room to be greeted by a hot room and someone’s fake nail left at the entrance floor.

Spacious room and clean which are important. The gym was good. The pool is a bit smaller and mostly hidden from the sun for a large portion of the day. Not the end of the world, but just good to know. Parking is 15 overnight in the garage next door and easily accessible. Free coffee downstairs

It is way to expensive! It was a great location but i will walk next time. They also asked for my credit card, i asked why for it is already paid for. The female said "just in case we need it", but she did not say we anything about a charge for parking, WHICH SHOULD BE FREE!!!! I filled out a survey and they replied, then telling me what the $15 charge was.

The reservation was made under my e-mail for my partner Rebecka who was staying at the hotel with her mother for a lecture. Shortly after her check-in, I received an e-mail of the receptionist asking my partner out on a date. The receptionist seemed to have no clue he was e-mailing me from what the e-mail suggests. He also went out of his way and provided free breakfast and parking as incentives to try and impress my woman. Using customer information such as email or phone numbers for personal matters is extremely unprofessional and should not be tolerated. I was going to leave this alone but I can’t help but to think of how many times this creep has done this to other clients. I request a full refund of my stay, since upon telling my partner what happened, neither her nor her mom were comfortable sleeping at the hotel after knowing this man used private information to reach out and try to get to her. I also request that the mentioned receptionist is removed from his position or at the least suspended. This unprofessional approach made my woman’s stay very uncomfortable for what was supposed to be a mom and daughter family matter stay at your facility. As an active duty service member currently deployed in the Middle East, incompetent people and unprofessional behavior I cannot keep up with. Attached is Benjamin’s email and my response to it.

Stayed at Aloft before but never had so much issue with noise. Theres noise (probably exhaust but sounds like vacuum cleaner) from the bathroom every 30 minutes or so and throughout the night which ruined my sleep. And then there's the train that blows it horns for a straight minute starting 5am which is unbearable.

Great experience. When we arrived (in the snow), the heat was not turned on in our room. It was 60 degrees! A little chilly. It eventually warmed up and was very comfortable. Maybe no one had stayed in the room recently and we certainly understand saving energy, but maybe just check when it is reserved!

The property was nice, nice bar, nice lobby and cafe. Gym looked very nice and the view, overall, is great. I paid for a city view, but living local to the area know that I instead had a direct view of the one office building facing the opposite direction of the city. Otherwise the room was great, very comfortable and clean. I tend not to take these things too seriously, but someone who does might have objected.

If you’re going to a show at the DPAC there is no better place for the money. Rooms were up to date with large windows and tall ceilings with a more modern design. Bathroom was upgraded and showers were nice. Easy onsite parking in downtown with an additional parking fee. But it’s good for 24 hours so you can stay parked after checkout to walk around or enjoy a show. Great experience overall.

I loved almost everything about this property. It was convenient for everything in Downtown Durham. It was modern with a bit of an industrial feel without being cold and unwelcoming. The room was vast. The bed was fantastic. If I had any complaints, the bathroom was small (I am not). The TV was supposed to be DirecTV, but something went wrong. They changed it, and we had only 20 channels and most of those were "news" channels. There were four pillows on the bed and all very soft. Perhaps one soft and one firm on each side of the bed? Other than that, amazing!!

The hotel is under construction so the elevator and the hallways have a strong sulfur odor. For the price of this hotel, they Penny pinch for every additional cent. I booked the stay with breakfast included but that ONLY meant that I would have a $10 credit towards breakfast, not allowing for anything other than a wrap or sandwich that they warm in the oven and then hand to you over a counter but advertise as a “hot” breakfast. The wrap was pre frozen so when I bit into it, the middle was still cold. There are no microwaves in the room so rewarming it was not an option. If I had the chance to do it over, I WOULD NOT stay here again. I would book a 2 star hotel somewhere close by, as it would have been the same quality but for a lower price.

The staff is all amazing- great service. Great rooms. I think it a bit overpriced for the amenities but it is in a great location. The water in the bathroom did not have a good smell - almost like a rusted smell. Another disappointment was the small area to buy drinks and snacks. The coffee maker was “out of service” and I could only purchase my snack items by billling to my room because the payment system was down. At approx 300$ a night I see these as basic services. Cannot stress enough how wonderful the hotel staff is. From front desk to housekeeping. Great people. Thank you

2. There was a hair on the cup next to the bathroom sink. 3. The seat cushion on the bench in the room was tattered and scraped (unsightly). 4. The bath mat is frayed and tattered (so shabby).

The water pressure in our sink was VERY low, and upon entering the room, the area smelled like dirty feet or shoes. Not pleasant. The bathroom was clean, but I would have preferred more bedding than the top sheet surrounding a very thin duvet.

I stayed at Aloft over a long weekend to see a show at DPAC. Initially I had chosen the hotel due to its proximity to the theater, but was pleasantly surprised by how updated the hotel was and how nice my room was! My room was clean and quiet, parking was easy (although plan to check in on time if it's the day of a performance!) No complaints.

Nice and clean. Not a boutique hotel but clean and new. Great location to go to a Bulls game and cute restaurants near.

Not only do you pay for parking but they do not tell you that you may not be able to get in or out at times due to performing arts center events. Frequent train passing noise, as early as 6:15am. Room has an echo effect in it because lack of sound absorbing material and furniture.

The property was in a cool area and the bar and pool table were enjoyable. Staff was nice and helpful. Not much on amenities and charged for parking at such a high price for a room. The bathroom tile and walls needed updating and the rooms were far from luxurious. Bedding and mattress could have been better for the price. Overall, a decent hotel but expected a little more.

Great location.

Great location and amazing staff, comfortable room, spacious, like having coffee/tea in room and the available snacks. Only issue was AC a little loud when came on but overall have enjoyed every Aloft stay.

People - front desk, house keeping, bar tender, cook -- all great. Needs an update and refresh. Huge room, but too little sitting opportunities in room. Only wall plugs for charging; no USB ports. Bathroom needs places to hang towel near sink and shower door. Shower needs a shelf and/or bench. Floor of shower was VERY slick -- big safety issue.

Two minute walk to DPAC.

First room smelled like a big wet dog Second room we got was just plain worn out from the furniture to the carpet Saturday night the hallway on our floor was extremely loud until at least 3:30-4:30 Sunday morning

Excellent customer service. Clean and well appointed rooms. Perfect for the downtown getaway.

No hot water for shower. For price of room, would’ve thought a bowl of Honey Nut Cheerios would be included for breakfast!

Great staff and bartender. The rooms are large and spacious.

Very clean and up to date. They staff was very friendly and the hotel was in the center of a lot of attractions.

hotel room strange layout... weird DARK hallways... creepy !! Breakfast charges were VERY expensive ... paid parking but on a holiday gates open for people to come and go but they still charged us.... room not very clean.. toilet shower room had towels but nowhere to hang towels by the sink when you washed your hands or shaved... sheets wrinkled and pillows had no stuffing andseeemed flat... we would NEVER stay here or another Aloft Hotel again...

Excellent! We stayed to see a show at DPAC. Room was very comfortable and quiet. DPAC is literally right next door. We stayed with our two 40 lb dogs. Hotel is very pet friendly and staff was lovely. Breakfast is cooked to order sandwiches by an excellent chef!

The property was cold… The heat in the room was not working. The gym was not room temperature- it was in the 60s

Need to improve access to parking lot. QR does t always work and then you hold up traffic calling help line. Hotel and services were great otherwise.

Right near DPAC and Durham Baseball Stadium.
- 5/5
Excellent stay walking distance to downtown restaurants, baseball stadium, and DPAC. I will stay here again when in the Durham area. Hotel was clean, quiet, with easy check in. If you are going to the Durham Performing Arts Center then this is where you need to stay.

Breakfast was very confusing because it said online we got free breakfast but at the hotel everything had a price on it and so it was very confusing so we didn't even eat breakfast and your bartender sucks he made our drink the wrong way and didn't even offer to fix it and he was rude about it when my wife brought it up to him the other all Hotel was beautiful front desk was nice would go back

Can’t say enough about the manager and his staff. Absolutely exceptional!

Lastly I checked in via my phone and still had to go through the normal process at the clerks desk. Double the work for the same process, why? Considering the cost, minimal staffing, and minimal cost to construct and maintain this property it must be a cash cow.

Very cool design. Excellent comfort and ideal location.

this property was amazing!! from the funky lobby to the cool hallways and elevator and a spacious comfy room with a great view! Super convenient location as we went to both DPAC and a Bull's Game..well worth the price!

We were there for a show at DPAC and dinner at NanaSteak. The hotel was attached to both, so perfect location! The room was very clean and the bed was comfortable. The ironing board and iron weren’t in the room, so we had to tell the front desk. They delivered it to our room immediately. The water pressure in the sink & shower was low and there wasn’t any shelving to put your shower items in the shower. The breakfast was delicious and the lobby area & bar were very welcoming. I loved the elevator music - kept me dancing! Overall, I would definitely stay here again if I plan on seeing a show at DPAC.

Our room was clean and comfortable. There were a couple of issues, which the staff attended to promptly. It was a good stay overall.

I have always enjoyed your hotels. Modern, clean and near where I need to be. I do believe the pet policy is out of control. Saw too many that weren’t service dogs. Our room definitely smelled of pets. Does not work for us. I also didn’t appreciate pets sniffing me in elevators. Certainly ruined a well planned nice weekend with my wife.

Friendly staff. Conveniently attached to the DPAC where we were attending a show.

The Aloft Durham Downtown was a wonderful way to really enjoy going to the theater. Guest check in/check out was fast and easy. The room was huge and the bed was so comfortable. The linens were so soft. The staff were friendly and we enjoyed the bottle of pink champagne from the hotel store. I highly recommend pairing a night at the Aloft with your favorite show and dinner at Nana's Steak House. You cannot go wrong.
