Reviews
The Dunhill Hotel is a historic boutique hotel in downtown Charlotte with a prime location near restaurants, attractions, and event centers. Guests generally appreciate the friendly and helpful staff, but have mixed feelings about the hotel's amenities and cleanliness.
- Prime location in downtown Charlotte
- Friendly and helpful staff
- Inconsistent cleanliness and maintenance issues

Nice hotel. Nice staff. Big room. Be aware, however. If you get a exterior facing room the noise is pretty loud on Friday and Saturday nights with cars and music thumping up and down Tryon street. Otherwise the room is quiet, but on Friday and Saturday nights that'll go till 2:00 to 3:00 in the morning. Cars revving there rice burner engines. And thumping cars and clubs outside. I can't speak for joining the week because we are only there on a Friday and a Saturday night. Otherwise, they've just renovated the carpet in the lobby which is really nice and it appears they're working on doing additional renovations. I would stay there again but would request an interior room away from Tryon Street.
- 4/5
Unfortunately, they were adding new carpet so it was a bit confusing to get in and out of the hotel. Room needed a bit of TLC and some minor repairs, but was generously spacious. Our room was a corner room on the 10th floor so we had a view of all the ongoing construction which is going on everywhere! Noise started promptly at 7 am. Again, anywhere downtown would have been the same. Staff was VERY helpful. We would stay there again.

Great, historic hotel in downtown Charlotte. Full of little elements that make you feel welcome and make the stay unique.

Lovely, historic hotel. Staff tried very hard to be helpful. Very understaffed, no bartender so no evening glass of wine. Many staffers english was second language. Order breakfast sandwich on wheat with hard cooked egg. Arrived on white bread and when I bit into it yoke ran all down the front of my shirt. Tried the burger and the beef tasted 'off'. Tub faucet was mislabeled H was cold and C was hot. None of this is the fault of the staff who were trying very hard to do their job.

Hotel was beautiful and well located for what we had planned. Staff was very friendly and check on was a breeze. Parking could have been clearer. I was going to use valet but the location for that was odd. Ended up self parking, which was fine. The shower in the room sprayed, soaking the floor. Had to put an extra towel down between the toilet and the shower. Shower was very slow to drain.

Where we were was very loud. You could hear cars down on the street which sounded like drag racing into the early morning. Then the wind was howling outside like a twister was coming. I understand you can’t control people or Mother Nature, but you should be able to install windows and noise cancelling insulation that don’t allow so much noise from outside. It makes sense why they provided ear plugs in the room. Other than that, everything was great.

Super location. Room service was frustrating. 3 of us in a room and every day they’d leave just two towels. Every single time. Often front desk was empty. Walked onto get parking validated and the person behind the counter just walked away…. Others were very friendly and helpful. Restaurant and bar were really good. Place had a lot of charm.
- 5/5
They had a restaurant and a small bar. Perfect for convenience. Parking garage next to the hotel. Great walking around Uptown area. 15 min walk to convention center. Wonderful staff they are coming up on their 100 anniverary. So go check this place out and support the hotel.

Staff nice, historic hotel with nice modern bathroom. Our room had a nice view. However bed very lumpy and saggy, needs an update...room 507. Luckily we were there just one night, don't think my back could have taken 2, that is why I had to take away one star...

Charming historic hotel with romantic and elegant style/decor, very responsive and accommodating staff, generous about upgrading room; lovely complimentary tea/coffee service available all day; excellent availability of covered parking behind hotel

Had our car broken into while it was parked overnight at the garage that the hotel is contracted with. Over a $100 worth of belongings stolen. I called the hotel and was provided the garage’s phone number and no further assistance. Bad neighborhood at night. Lots of intoxicated individuals and aggressive homeless people surrounding the building. No mini fridge or microwave in the rooms, despite paying $250 a night. Cleaning staff was inadequate. There was what appeared to be dried blood on our bathroom wall.

Hotel was very pretty and historic. Rooms was clean, spacious and nicely decorated. We had a corner room so to walls of windows with view of the city. Location was great. Discount on parking for guests of the hotel. Location was great! Close and within walking distance to restaurants and city sites.

The room was great. The bed was tight and firmly made. The staff and vallet were great. They gave me the accommodations that I needed. I would recommended this establishment to all my family and friends. The staff even put my luggage in my vehicle, so I wouldn't be late to the Panthers Game. The price for the hotel is very reasonable as well and downtown, not to mention a block up, you have Ri Ra Pub and club Prohibition (highly recommended both!!).

We love this hotel! We live just outside the city and several times a year we come into town and do a staycation. This is our choice every time. It is even where we spent our honeymoon night over 30 years ago. It has old charm and elegance. It has great history. It’s also convenient to restaurants, theaters, and sports arenas.

There are no ice machines which is very inconvenient. You have to call the front desk and wait for someone to bring it to you. Our first night there, we had to wait so long we gave up because we had dinner reservations. We came back and there was a melted bucket of water in front of my door.

After a very long day flying from Mexico my tv did not work. So I tried to call front desk and phone doesn't work. I go down to desk 2x. Nobody there. Third time a charm and gave him remote to fix while I had a late night bite. Go straight to my room only to find one side with a large blood stain Fromm a woman's period. Can't call down so I slept on coach. Told the gentleman at front desk my issues upon checkout. He offered me no remediation or suggestions how I can be compensated. However your general manager was a charming and gracious individual who opened the bar so I could have a cocktail. I did not express any of my frustrations to him. This is not acceptable behavior in a fine hotel. Do you agree?

I had stayed here once many years ago and remembered that visit as very positive. This one was the same, only perhaps a bit better because it was on a Wednesday night, meaning 1/2 price bottles of wine and excellent conversations with the locals who flock here for that occasion. Easy walk to Truist for minor league baseball. Room was again quiet and comfortable. I could have stayed someplace farther out from the center of town for less money, but decided to Do the Dunhill once again. Glad I did.

I showed him my active Travelocity itinerary and he then said it was cancelled by the hotel two days after I made my reservation 3 weeks prior. I was first told they overbooked for that date. When I spoke with the manager, she told me a completely different reason-that the hotel water was supposed to be off during my stay. When I arrived there were several people

It is located on a street that is used by people cruising up and down the street, revving their engines and playing their stereos at full volume. It's like trying to sleep in the middle of a rave being held during the Indy 500. They are aware of the problem - there are earplugs in the amenities kit - but there's nothing they can do to stop the incredibly loud noise, which goes on all night. Maybe on the upper floors it's better, but on the third floor it's unbearable. We left after only one night and of course they refused to refund us for the second night because we booked through expedia.

Not a fan. Double charged for everything. Parking and incidentals. When I spoke to the desk first she told me I was wrong about the double charge. Then said “oh maybe the held double”. It was $38 to park a night. So a $76 additional charge on my card was not ok. It’s been 2 days and it still hasn’t “fallen off”. No ice or fridge in room. Water was scolding hot. The noise was unbearable. Did not sleep at all. Will not go back.

Staff very helpful and efficient. Room very clean and quiet. Nice bathroom. For the money, the furnishings in the public spaces looked very worn and dated. Would stay there again.

It's a lovely old building - one of the few left in Charlotte after all the massive renovations. Within easy walking distance to multiple restaurants and museums.

Always a nice stay. Construction across the road made things loud. Maybe a room in the back of the hotel would. Be better.

A true 10/10 for this property. Very conveniently located to several restaurants and a quick walk to the Spectrum Center.

I enjoyed my stay, but I felt that for one night was a bit overpriced. I probably won’t be coming back. Again nothing against the staff by any means, everyone was great! Just the price wasn’t worth it for one night.

I was told I was getting an upgrade but my room was actually downgraded. Smaller, no sofa like I paid for and there was no towels. It’s desperately in need of renovation and not worth the price AT ALL!

It wasn’t anything unique, small rooms, no modern conveniences but clean and the right spot for one night!

My sister and I were in Charlotte attending a soccer match at the Bank of America stadium. I chose The Dunhill based on the location to the stadium (0.8 miles) and previous ratings. From my first phone call inquiring about parking (they valet for a modest fee) to check out, everything was top notch in customer service. The Dunhill was an elegant and intimate hotel. Jeanna was especially impressive and helpful. We were upgraded to a beautiful suite on the 10th floor with gorgeous city views. The room was impeccable and thankfully quiet. If I stay in Charlotte again, there is no question, I will make reservations to stay at The Dunhill again!

I especially appreciated being able to check in early after arriving on a red eye. Nice touch there! Thank you!

The nostalgia that the hotel provided.

Great boutique charming historic hotel in city The only one and it is super The only reason not 5 stars the tv in room are outdated They are small not hi def and not WiFi enabled All else at hotel is super

A really fine historic hotel in downtown Charlotte. The service and staff were uniformly excellent. The property is charming and well updated. There’s a fine restaueant attached and parking is available. Skip the big chains next time and there.

Great location and lovely staff

Great location for B of A Stadium.

Two issues earned this stay two stars. One, the room assigned to us had two (2) queen beds and no desk—I had never seen that before. Management assigned us a stunning king bed with an awesome bathroom for an extra $50. No apology but an acceptable solution. Two, it took us 20 minutes to get our valeted car from next door and there was no one in front of us. Breakfast was excellent. May stay here again after I finish being grumpy over the initial room and the horrible valet service. Awesome location.

Clean, quiet and excellent service but tiny bathroom and inadequate room lighting at night.
- 5/5
Dunhill exceeded my expectations. This was my first overnight stay in Charlotte and the hotel was in the perfect area for the convention center where my conference was held.
- 4/5
Booked this because it had great reviews and presented as smaller historic boutique hotel. Its very tired, room smelled musty, no one at front desk at early am checkout. Also could hear clearly into adjoining room bathroom and see its light through vent grill. $300/night. No thanks

Decent place. Great staff
- 1/5
The staff are completely incompetent. They never could understand one of the rooms had 3 people in it and never delivered bedding or towels. Expedia said a king room and rollaway bed is acceptable. The staff at the hotel said there is no rollaway beds. What a mess.
- 5/5
Loved the room and parking options!
- 3/5
I will start by saying the service at the hotel was amazing- the staff could not have been kinder. However, the hotel is incredibly outdated. Upon checking into my room and starting the shower, it overflowed with water. There was a TON of hair in the sink that was not cleaned. Maintenance had to come. When I left the hotel and came back later that evening, the bed was made but nothing was cleaned in the room.. pillows on the floor. Unfortunately there no is charm to this hotel. But the staff was very kind.

Second time we’ve stayed at the Dunhill and our experience was excellent. Christina was one of the best concierge’s we’ve ever had.
- 5/5
We take a staycation 3-4 times a year. Love it!
- 5/5
Ideally located, with the atmosphere of a smaller boutique hotel.
- 4/5
Perfect location for Spectrum Center.
- 5/5
The staff was excellent.
- 3/5
Check in is at 3:00, room was not ready until 5:00, did make a problem with followup reservations for dining.
- 4/5
A very friendly and helpful staff. Our only complaint was the noise from the street and construction a block away, which the hotel can’t help.
- 5/5
We love this hotel and always stay there when we are in Charlotte for a show! It is always nice but this trip we had especially great service!
- 3/5
Five star service in a 2 star hotel. The staff were incredibly kind and friendly but the hotel was in really bad shape. Torn wall paper, broken/stained/scratched up furniture. The water in the showers was hot but not consistently as the temperature went up and down drastically during a 10 min shower. The shampoo and condition bottles provided had barely enough in them for 1 person. Valet parking is as $38 and each water bottle was $5. Prices were not justified.
- 5/5
Amazing and in walking distance of the Spectrum Center, restaurants, and nightlife. Restaurant attached to hotel had a great brunch!
- 5/5
Great location, wonderful staff, easy parking.
- 3/5
The entry doors lock to this place at 11pm. The key fob for entry did not work so we had to wait in the cold for some time. There were other guest waiting as well. I booked thru 3rd party so I did not get the room I reserved. Great atmosphere otherwise for the hotel.
- 5/5
The staff was very friendly and helpful giving tips for local things to do! $23 to park for the night should have been included in the room rate in my opinion.
- 4/5
we liked everything, but would suggest more lighting in the room.
- 2/5
Room reserved was not available upon arrival and had to settle for room with one bed so people had to sleep on the floor. Also HVAC fan in room was terribly noisy.
- 5/5
The staff was exceptionally welcoming and helpful, the location was ideal for our purpose, parking was very convenient, and the historic building had character and charm. The restaurant and lobby bar were nice conveniences although the restaurant menu was limited.
- 3/5
The property is nice. The room wasn’t ready for our 3 pm check in and we waited until 430pm to get our room. We had dinner reservations for 5 so that was cutting it too close
- 2/5
Our stay at the Dunhill ended up being pretty miserable because the air conditioning did not work. We were also asked to move our car to another parking deck level because of some kind of work being done. Would have been nice to know ahead of time instead of having to go back and moving it. Thirdly, we didn't have any k-cup coffee pods in our room so we asked for some and were told they would put some in our room. Upon arriving back in our room late that night after a concert, we still didn't have any and we had to make another trip down to the front desk. Just way too many inconveniences for such a nice expensive hotel.
- 5/5
The staff was very helpful and pleasant. Great location and very comfortable bed.
- 4/5
Would be nice to have a mini refrigerator in the room like most hotel rooms
- 5/5
Close proximity to event center

We have stayed here occasionally for years and always enjoy our visit. Charlotte is a walkable city during the day with lots of choices for music, entertainment and food.
- 5/5
Great hotel and great location! Room needs more lights!
- 5/5
The hotel staff are pleasant and helpful. I asked if we could store our bags and look around town and they extended our check in at no charge. The cafe next store had carefully prepared foods for breakfast and at great prices. Lastly, the room was very clean, ample towels and shampoos etc. very classic stay with character.
- 2/5
The hotel is historic, ok I get that . But they need to invest in modernizing it (gym / open bar & food service ) I got the impression it was on its way out as a hotel. What a shame its location is great .
- 4/5
Always had to chase down valet.
- 2/5
I appreciate that it is a restored historic property.
- 5/5
Convenient location and great history and atmosphere. Breakfast in the Asbury was convenient and well done.

Great boutique hotel with an excellent location in Charlotte’s downtown core!
- 3/5
I was a repeat customer at this hotel and this time it was not as good an experience. It's centrally located near offices and restaurants, supermarket and pharmacy. The people are nice, but new so not well trained. They couldn't fix my sink. The sheets weren't completely clean when I checked in. There wasn't a safe provided like last time. No hot water one day. Apart from a 1pm check out, I wasn't offered anything for the several inconveniences I experienced staying here. I hope the next time they will be more buttoned up and focused on service and cleanliness.

booked a double queen in October 2022 when i arrived on Saturday January 14,2023 was told they had no double queen rooms available, no explanation no offer of discounted rate, just this is what we have take it or leave it

Room was only serviced once the five nights there. Was seviced the night before we left. Fire in kitchen on Christmas morning. There Health & Safety needs reviewed immediately with all staff. A very old hotel but clean.
- 4/5
Room was clean and comfortable. There was an obvious place on the bathroom wall by the shower where the wall paper was peeling off and mold was growing. Also, the shower faucet know was broken and we could not control the hot water. Things that should have been reported and addressed so we did so. Staff were very friendly. I would stay again and hope for little better state of repair.
- 5/5
Very nice historic hotel in downtown Charlotte. Had a little problem with the type of room I booked but, they made it right by giving me 1/2 of my money back.

The Dunhill was lovely, the beds were comfortable and the staff was great.
