Reviews
The hotel is praised for its excellent location, close to Khao San Road and other attractions, as well as its cleanliness. The staff is frequently commended for being friendly and helpful. However, many guests find the rooms to be small, and some have issues with the bathrooms, such as leaking pipes, small size, and lack of hot water. Noise can also be a problem, particularly for rooms facing the street or on lower floors.

We had a wonderful stay. I could be nitpicking to have a con but my overall stay was awesome.

However after long day sightseeing we went to bar for a night cap, the male bartender was so rude and not helpful at all, it really left a bad taste for us,

1st we had no idea that parking options for the hotel were either on the street overnight, or the valet. I don't know if its cause we booked thru Expedia instead of Moxy directly, but we had no idea, and the valet was an unexpected and whopping $55. Our valetmen were also disconnected, listening to stuff on their phones and not really engaged. I don't expect full on conversations but at least be engaged. 2nd, when we checked in, apparently they had somehow overbooked the Queen room we had already paid for, so we were given a room with two double beds instead. They asked me if that was okay, and I was like, do I even have a choice? No offer to try to figure something out, no credit back to us, or even ANY kind of perk at all to make up for the inconvenience. No follow up from a manager either. 3rd, the room itself was unimpressive. Not warm and inviting to hang out in at all. A plain room with two beds and a tiny little desk. For how cool the rest of the building was, even just the hallways of the place, it was shockingly bare. Really kind of an underwhelming experience.

Great location in the very center of the city. I wish I could have a closet but anyway thank you!

This hotel was really disappointing. Let’s start with the reception and valet service — the staff were not welcoming, didn’t smile, and barely provided any useful information. The neighborhood also felt very unsafe at night, with a large homeless population around the area. Overall, I would not recommend staying here.
- 3.5/5
I guess it’s not much about the property, but the area is still in development. And if you’ll try to walk anywhere around, no much of vegetation or shades around, if you’re not used to the head, you’ll suffer a bit

Moxy hotels are very interesting in their design, it’s smartly located little bit outside of the center, close to the bridge, the real Charleston isn’t downtown/ king street. Short ride to mount pleasant (wow) I guess it’s not much about the property, but the area is still in development. And if you’ll try to walk anywhere around, no much of vegetation or shades around, if you’re not used to the head, you’ll suffer a bit

Very nice helpful staff.
- 3.5/5
The folks in the room next to me, were very inconsiderate and there didn’t seem to be any insulation in the walls and a large space under the connecting door allowed it to sound like they were in my room, talking late at night when I was trying to sleep
- 2/5
Disappointing
- 4/5
The property is neat... the location is great. Nice rooftop bar and patio. The twin double bed arrangements are weird. Two platform beds, with one side butted up to the wall and the bottoms touching. My wife and I had to sleep on separate beds, as it was hard for a couple to get in and out of the same bed when both were trying to sleep. The room was very small. It would have been a better layout with one queen with enough room to get in and out of each side of the bed.

The property was clean and the staff was friendly. The only thing I would mention is that this property sits in an area of Charleston that is under rejuvenation. While safe, the cost is not reflective of where the property lies. As a result, I found it to be overpriced.

It wasnt a tradtional hotel...more like a hostel with private room and baths with a large public area. The room was nice but seemed like a crash pad for a night of drinking and bringing back a drunk date for sex. Plenty of hotels get used for this, but this seemed built more for hookups and stag outings, not really for travel or business. Different, but not bad...just unexpected. Staff was good. Nice bar. Food seemed marginal, but good restaurants nearby. Shower was great, even if sink was minimalist, as was most of room.
- 1/5
The whole hotel is not in a desirable place, the facilities were dirty, you’d think for this much $$ it would be a nicer stay. But no it was awful.
- 5/5
One of the hotels where the room is on the smaller side but the lobby and the amenities compensate for that. Perfect for my needs as a solo traveller. Starbucks on the ground floor. Situated on the Eastside in Downtown Charleston closer to restaurants and bars I wanted to hang out in. Would stay there again.
- 3/5
Hotel next to a homeless shelter. Very much at the end of town. Valet didn’t help me take my stuff out of the car.
- 2.5/5
Being charged for parking was not clearly communicated at check in nor when booking. There is no one available to assist with luggage and the heavily touted "downtown " location is nothing to write home about. I shouldnhave stayed in the historic district for the same price.

Quirky, very friendly staff and room and bathroom good. Lovely bar and terrace. A little too far from downtown area. However it did give us lots of exercise walking into town each day.

Staff were excellent. Friendly and helpful. The The room. As soon as we entered we wanted to leave. No safe. No coffee/tea machine. No room to move about. No chair. No wardrobe. Absolutely minimal storage space. In your pursuit of being a trendy hotel you miss the point of being a hotel- ie providing suitable accommodation for guests.

The room was extremely small and for 2 persons with 4 bags was impossible to move inside the room. No space to put all our clothes. They clean the room every 3 days and also this is not how level of expectation. I guess is my mistake to book this room without checking all this in advance.

I was shocked at the location. I'm glad I didn't plan to walk to the historic area, as it was not safe. The room was shockingly small, too small for even a bedside table to ut your glasses or phone on. It was made of concrete. This made it very loud in the room and uncomfortable. The bathroom door was basically for show and did not feel private. I would not stay here again. I would sleep in my car before paying to sleep there.

The hotel was very nice. Loved the rooftop bar. The rooms were a bit different but stylish. Loved the carpet in the hallways. I would suggest you all to put small fridge in the room along with a dresser. But all in all it was a nice place. You all need dressers in the room!

The place was great. Parking was easy. The bar offered a great selection and the service was wonderful. Checkout time of 12pm was wonderful too.

Parking was street side unless valet but we had no issues
- 0.5/5
nice bar and board games and nice view from deck. No parking unless you parked on the street where all the homeless were walking or paid for valet parking which is like $30-$40. My room was not ready till 2 hours after check in. The queen beds face each other and very cramped. the toilet would not quite making a running sound and you had to stop it by opening the back of the toilet. the shower drain in our room was disgusting. i mean i could go on. i was so disappointed.

Exceptional
- 2/5
Very misleading photos. In the middle of nowhere, curtains don’t open, beds are horribly uncomfortable and hard, awful linens. So expensive. Never again
- 5/5
Amazing staff, amenities, and very comfortable and clean. The rooftop deck is a great hangout spot, offering a (gas) fire pit, corn hole, comfortable seating and more! It also has a nice area inside by the bar to either hang out or to work. We would highly recommend this property and will stay here again if we visit Charleston!

Staff was amazing and very very accomodating. I really enjoyed my stay there. They really made me feel welcomed and made me feel relaxed at my stay even when I had my flight delayed and had to stay an extra night they accomodated instantly. Place will always be gorgeous and cozy at the same time.

Room was small but clean, staff is really nice except for the manager. Their computer system is horrible and was messed up, rooms getting messed up. People getting double booked in rooms. Walking in on other people who are in those rooms. Manager was no help. Left his front desk, girls to deal with everything.
- 3/5
The check-in process was absolutely atrocious. It took extremely way too long. The room itself had old tape on the walls and the lamp shades were dirty and broken .

Arrived for a 3 pm checkin and didn't get our room until 5 pm. Reserved a king bed and received two double beds. Very small room and can hear everything and everyone in the hallway. Valet is a requirement and you have to have the car brought around every time you need something out of the car. The Starbucks baristas are enormously rude, ignore you, people who had paid where actually leaving without their drinks, orders took over 30 minutes to receive every time, rooms enormously overpriced for what seemed like an overly watered down Aloft hotel. Spent $1100 for 2 nights of lodging. What a scam and major disappointment. Trust me. Stay elsewhere.
- 3.5/5
Great bar. Good good w the limited menu. Beds were comfy. It would be nice to have a table and chair in the room, even a small one, and 2 luggage racks. No closet. The hangers which I did use fall apart, the leather like strap is not adhere properly and the hanger fall off.
- 4/5
Clean and staff was excellent! Room very small with the lay out. No where to sit
- 5/5
Moxy was great! Bar tenders and welcome staff were awesome! Very convenient for Starbucks to be on the bottom floor! Bunk bed room was awesome just wish there was a fridge for us to put leftovers in!
- 5/5
We particularly enjoyed the cozy atmosphere of the bar and the stunning view from the gym. Additionally, the hotel’s location perfectly suited the events and tours we had planned. We also greatly appreciated the innovative "Stash" concept. A memorable. We look forward to returning in the future.
- 3.5/5
Convenient and cozy - definitely a gathering place and a bonus. The location and surrounding area don’t feel very safe. The room accommodations left a lot to be desired from the layout of the rooms, lack of furniture and a desk, lack of drawers, etc. bathroom was less than comfortable, sink was horrible, etc. that being said there were more positives than negatives.
- 5/5
Such a nice spot in downtown!
- 5/5
Decent enough part of town. Walking distance to coffee. Close drive to everything. Hotel was super comfy… we stayed hanging out in the lobby all night with the kids and felt like we were at home. Staff were amazing and accommodating. Would def stay again.

Great experience second time lodging here this month!
- 2/5
The check-in point at the bar was a nice touch with the complimentary beverages. The bar itself looked exactly like the photos and was quite cozy, though they did run out of our beer of choice during our stay. The community closet containing complimentary items on each floor for hotel guests to utilize was helpful to someone who may have forgotten toothpaste, razor, etc. I did not use the fitness facility; however, it was nicely equipped for someone wanting to maintain their health and fitness efforts by working out while traveling. The room was quite disappointing as it was much smaller than anticipated by photos. There was no closet, no docking station for luggage, etc. The pegs that were supposed to be utilized for hanging clothes were directly over the television, which would completely obstruct viewing. The room felt like a closet as there was little to no room to move around, and unless you stayed by yourself then you were on top of your traveling buddy. The hotel bar food was unacceptable as it was precooked food heated by oven at the end of the bar vs having a separate food prep kitchen that was sanitary and contained. Furthermore, the hotel was listed as being downtown; however, it was a 33-minute walk to get to what a tourist traveling would consider to be actual downtown. Would definitely NOT choose to stay at this hotel again.
- 5/5
It was so cute, the staff was friendly, and the room was clean! Nothing
- 2/5
Very trendy and cute, the food at the bar was good. Location was good. The rooms felt like a combo of an Airbnb bedroom and a cruise ship cabin. Had issues with the WiFi and tv the first night. There is no closet, fridge, or additional seating in the room other than the bed. Check in was awful, it’s just an untrained individual on a laptop by the bar. Took 20 minutes to check in due to a misunderstanding on her part, she was on the phone with a colleague on her cell phone who was guiding her. If it wasn’t close to $500 a night none of this would have bothered me that much.

Very modern, young feel. Open and airy. Entry and parking a little awkward. Very loud street-side room on Saturday night midnight to 2:30am with loud street traffic.

I was basically forced to do valet parking for $35 + tip because there was absolutely no street parking available. Couldn’t get onto wifi because the site was glitching when I tried to make a Marriott account. They didn’t have a do not disturb sign for my door in my room and they instructed me to go in search of one throughout the hotel. I still didn’t find one. The travel size hotel lotion was already almost completely used when I arrived and there was what appeared to be a pubic hair in the lid. Lastly my room was set to 78 degrees F when I arrived. Overall would not recommend

Tink rooms that feel like hostils not a hotel. Valet parking was on the street - not secure. Only one lady did all the work. Other 3 on the hospitality/check-in floor just talked to each or stared at their phones. I would not return nor recommend.

Rooms are small but I expected this from the reviews. If you are here just to sleep and shower in your room it’s just fine. The lobby bar area is very cool. Staff super friendly. Valet parking which is a must given the area is terrible and not totally the valet guys fault. Scheduling one person on a holiday weekend is a recipe for disaster. Bringing us the wrong vehicle after waiting 30 minutes not great. Getting our car today to leave same issue.

Given the professionalism, we expected a very nice experience moving forward. We were wrong. The room we walked into felt as cold as a jail cell, and did not look very different. The ceiling is not painted and looks like stained cement. The bed was practically pushed up against the window with a potential of a real life falling dream experience. Then, there was no chair. Only a folding luggage rack that was supposed to be the chair. Also, why is there no storage? I don't know about everyone else, but I certainly cannot hang all of my items, as well as my wife's, on 6 measly hooks and 3 crazy hangers. The bathroom was pretty good, with the exception of having to get a good stretch in to reach the toilet paper on the wall behind the toilet. The only good things about this hotel are the staff and the decent shower. Needless to say, we did not even stay the night. We immediately left and stayed the night somewhere we felt safer and more relaxed. Never again.

Good budget option in the upper peninsula. I have been trying for weeks to get a night of valet removed from my bill when i didn't have a car on site but no word back from Marriott! The staff were very friendly and helpful. Housekeeping never serviced the room and I was there for 5-nights! But you can collect more towels from storage on each floor.

Hotel was fun, new and clean. Room was neat, but very small. I would have hoped for more space for what we paid.

The rooms are unique, i.e. clean, satisfactory, but "different." Not many amnenities, i.e. "comfortable" for couples, chairs/seating.

Although the bed setup is unusual, it functioned just fine. I might have liked a small mini fridge but quite frankly wouldn't know where they would fit it anyway. Bathroom midern, bright and actually decent sized. The rooftop was imaginative and the staff always bright faced and genuinely accomodating.

We had an outstanding experience at the Moxie Hotel over the weekend. The hotel staff were incredibly accommodating and friendly. They went above and beyond to celebrate my wife’s 40th birthday party, decorating the room with balloons and additional nice touches to make it really feel like a special occasion! I am now a Moxie fan for life and will look forward to finding these hotels in my future travels.

The staff was warm and welcoming! Especially the lady who works the bar and food service in the mornings on Tuesdays, and the weekend desk/check in attendant. I personally enjoy that it it self service and you’re able to grab what you need at one’s convenience. I would absolutely book with you all again. Thank you for this property. Enjoyed tremendously!

This place was very cleen. Almost everything you need is on site. I do not however recommend buying sodas there, because 2 Pepsi costs me $9. But, overall it's a really nice place to stay.

So noisy - it looked like staff was using the room next to mine to hang out during the day and there was constant banging noise of opening and closing the door against the bolt to keep it open. A mind then a car was incessantly honking in the early hours of the morning due to the poor design of the driveway to access the hotel.

Staff was amazing but not around the best area. But AMAZING stay!

Our room was very small and the lack of a closet was troublesome, but we made do. We liked the lobby. The staff was nice, too, except for one of the men working at the bar who was rude. We liked the fact that there were free lockers to store valuables. Thanks so much.

Great hotel, great location, great staff.

The area is a little sketchy but it’s up and coming : )…you get free drink tokens a major plus , everything was very clean and modern.

Amazing place, rooms are clean, staffs are nice, and great location. Had an amazing time

Adorable spot to stay. Very friendly staff, welcome cocktails and a very cute rooftop deck to enjoy a drink!

Not what i expected at all
- 2/5
When you roll up you get socked with an immediate mandatory $35 valet parking bill. NOT a fan of this.
- 4/5
Loved the hotel but parking
- 2/5
There are no closets. The place is noisy. I’ve stayed in Hampton Inns that were nicer.
- 5/5
Hip, modern industrial decor. Young, locally staffed, courteous and hospitable. Nice roof top bar and lounge. Reasonably priced downtown Chas. Recommended.
- 5/5
Great location not too far from the main streets. Friendly staff, clean nice sized rooms

Moxy Downtown Charleston is near College of Charleston and Meeting Street, King Street and Queen Street, shopping and dining, making it convenient for visiting my daughter who is a student at C of C. It is a good balance between reasonable price and reliable quality. The spacious bar/relaxing area is perfect for early morning breakfast, a late night cocktail or catching up on work emails in my downtime.

My go to!

Close enough to downton to walk but far enough to be a bit quieter. The property is clean and nice. Rooftop bar is fun. Nice staff.

- 5/5
cool atmosphere
- 5/5
See downtown Charleston is one of my favorite hotels. I love the ambience, I love the rooftop bar, and the rest of the hotel is great. The area around the hotel has not caught up with the rest of downtown Charleston, but it’s not awful, and I walked downtown every time I stay there.
- 5/5
The people running the place, very friendly !
- 4/5
Location was too far away from restaurants and shopping. Very limited food options. Nice bar with rooftop deck. Bartender was great! Beds comfy.
- 5/5
James was the best bartender ever! They have a great patio area
- 5/5
Loved the hotel and the bartender James was the best! Would go here again!!
- 3/5
The decor is cool but the price is high for what you get in the room. Minimal furniture, do it yourself service for needing toiletries, towels, linens, etc., no daily maid service, no minibar in room. The bathroom door is a sliding barn door and someone in the room can hear everything going on in the bathroom with the door slid closed - not much privacy. Beds are comfortable and bikes are available which is a plus.
- 5/5
Great boutique hotel! Convenient walking distance to Historic Charleston - staff was so friendly and helpful (especially Alexis at the Front Desk)! The rooftop was an absolute dream - appreciated that the area was quiet and the rooms were super clean !
- 2/5
The property has no aesthetics. The check in is on the sixth floor and if you need to store your luggage before checking in, you have to go back to the first floor to put it in a locker. The lockers are not big enough for full size luggage so you have to go back to the sixth floor to leave your bag under the beverage counter- unattended. The locker that we did use had a broken combination lock and we had to get security to unlock it. They unlocked it without ever confirming it was our luggage. The deadbolt on our room door did not work . The barn door style bathroom door did not close- so no privacy when using the toilet. No closet, dirty floor area rug with old carpet tape holding it. The ceilings are concrete and very cold feeling. Terrible accommodations for over $500 a night.
- 5/5
Best place ever!
- 2/5
A maid came into our room when we didn’t request service. She stole a bag of cookies we bought to take home. We notified staff…. How frustrating….
- 2/5
Required a 35 valet parking per day and rooms were so small.
- 5/5
Cool hotel, love the lounge area
- 5/5
Especially the check in people and the guys running the valet service
- 5/5
Great staff and location! Very simplistic but perfect for what we needed.
- 2/5

- 5/5

- 5/5
Great
- 3/5
I really liked the common areas and the customer service. The rooms are extremely small with no closets and a fridge for fresh water.
- 5/5
The hotel was fine but the area is a bit to be desired. It is close to where my son lives so easy to stay here.
- 5/5
The Moxy is absolutely gorgeous and the staff is amazing. Everyone was very welcoming and kind. We had 2 kiddos with us and they loved the games and rooftop activities. We felt right at home and would absolutely recommend The Moxy!
- 5/5
Fantastic hotel and very reasonable
- 5/5
We had 2 families together including 2 adults and 3 teenagers. We booked the queen double bunk room, and it was perfect. 4 queen size beds - adults on the bottom two beds, and kids on the top two beds. The lobby on the 6th floor was great for all ages - bar/lounge, work space, games for adults and kids, and a rooftop area with a great view of the Ravenel Bridge. Incredibly friendly and helpful staff. Highly recommend!
- 4/5
Although I had to call and get a refund because of a charge to my card for Smoking ( I’m a Non smoker) , the hotel and amenities were Great
- 5/5
It was nice
- 4/5
Close to The Commodore club
- 2/5
TV didn’t work and had to be fixed. Shower was dirty and leaked. No security around at night.
- 5/5
The hotel’s location is also a major plus—just a quick and affordable Uber ride to the downtown area, making it easy to explore without the hassle of parking. Our room was spacious, quiet, and well-designed, offering a great place to relax at the end of the day. Overall, I highly recommend Moxy Charleston for both families and couples. It’s a stylish and fun hotel with great amenities, a friendly atmosphere, and a prime location for enjoying the city!
- 5/5
Valet was excellent.
- 5/5
We enjoyed the top floor and the amenities located there. The hotel was conveniently enough located to downtown Charleston but the neighborhood itself outside the hotel was a little rough. Really enjoyed the European feel to the hotel.
- 3/5
Rooms are small , no mini fridge , microwave . Just a bed and tv. Not even a place for clothes. Advertises a restaurant but that is false advertising. It has a bar that they will microwave you nachos or a meatball hoagie. 3 ring meatballs on a roll and they call it meatball sub. Food was disgusting. Employees all super nice and friendly but if you’re looking for a hotel you can enjoy dinner and a drink before heading to your room this is definitely not the place to stay.
- 3/5
We asked for help getting the fire on the roof started and the staff woman was incredibly rude and snarky and would not help us.
- 2/5
Definitely not your typical hotel in any fashion.....
- 5/5
It’s terrible.
- 4/5
Not close to many things.
- 5/5
This is a nice, clean and quiet hotel just a quick walk to many parts of Charleston. They are friendly and accommodating. I came to work with my son on a project and we spent hours in one of the conference rooms which afforded us quiet space to work.
- 5/5
The Moxy was amazing. The staff was so friendly and eager to help. The room was clean and spacious. THE SHOWER…. OUTSTANDING! Starbucks on main level and bar with games and food… chef’s kiss. The location was convenient to our event, but everything else was a walking distance of .08 miles away. We did explore Northern Charleston on foot. Highly recommend and will definitely stay again.
- 5/5
The staff was incredibly kind and the vibe is amazing. They gave us a token for a free drink during our stay!
- 5/5
- 5/5
The room and hotel was very clean. This was a staycation for me and I would definitely stay at the Moxy again! I loved the vibe!!!
- 2/5
Room was small and cold like a prison cell. No refrigerator, microwave, dresser, or seating. Noisy hallways and thin walls.
- 4/5
The hotel was very nice, clean, and cozy. However, the parking was such a major inconvenience.
- 5/5
Staff was great! And I appreciated the coffee in the morning and the lockers to store luggage after check-out!
- 3/5
Facility is nice with very nice staff. First night, we had children running up and down the halls until 1 AM. After that we had teenagers screaming and cursing outside their room at 2 AM. The next night there was dogs barking down the hall as the owners must have left them to go out. They barked for over an hour before we had to call the staff to see if they could get ahold of the owners, the staff took care of the situation. Not sure if this is normal or just our case. The rooms are smaller than normal hotels so prepare for that, you would definitely need to upgrade to a larger room for anymore than 2 people or for longer trips.
- 5/5
We loved the Moxy and the whole staff was amazing. We will definitely be back!!
- 5/5
Great stay!
- 5/5
Great for families with children
- 4/5
Good area being rejuvenated but sometimes sketchy. Pillows and beds can use an upgrade. Property was nice otherwise.
- 4/5
The property had a great vibe as always with Moxy hotels. The hotel itself isn’t situated within walking distance to any Charleston attractions or dining but is within a ten minute easy drive to the downtown area. The parking situation is complicated with only street/back alley parking. They have valet but only had one guy working on a Saturday night, so he had cars lined up everywhere trying to get them parked or retrieved. If you had to go somewhere, the wait time for your vehicle was a bit long. The surrounding area seemed vacant and abandoned but with construction and potential, so it probably won’t stay that way for long. I would stay there again without hesitation. The vibe is great and you know what to expect with each Moxy hotel.
