Reviews
The hotel is generally well-liked for its cleanliness, spacious rooms, and convenient location near downtown and King Street. However, some guests have complained about the quality of breakfast, the need for remodeling in certain areas, and issues with parking and valet services.
- Convenient location near downtown and King Street
- Clean and spacious rooms
- Quality of breakfast could be improved
- Some areas of the hotel need remodeling

The room was clean enough but the bathroom had some moldy spots and our extra bedding for the pullout couch was stained and full of granola crumbs. We did have new bedding b rough up to us easily.
- 4/5
Great spot, right off of King street. A little far north but otherwise accessible to most everything. Easy to get Uber rides from. Property was clean, easy in and out. Rooms were nice.
- 5/5
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this hotel. The room was clean, spacious, and very comfortable, allowing us to get a quiet and restful night's sleep. The breakfast was wonderful, with a wide variety of food, sides, and sweets to choose from. If we visit Charleston again, we would definitely stay here. Everything was great.
- 3.5/5
Location Bed was terrible. Understaffed hotel charging premium prices.
- 4/5
Great place to stay with a family. Rooms had a small kitchenette with a full fridge and ice maker. Nice to have a place to keep drinks and left overs. Walkable to King street and the DASH stop is really close for free transportation throughout downtown Charleston.
- 5/5
The facilities were very clean and the suites larger than expected, especially for a city. The location was great too. For our 5 night stay, I especially appreciated the large bottles of Crabtree & Evelyn shampoo, conditioner, shower gel and body lotion, ensuring we’d never run out. Shower pressure good. Ceiling fan over bed was appreciated!

Parking at this location is ridiculous ! They have meters on the road parallel to the front of the hotel that have to be fed every 2 hours around the clock. A huge empty parcel of land is also adjacent to the hotel but you not allowed to park on it . Therefore, you have to pay $40 a night for valet parking :(
- 2/5
The beds The staff was very rude
- 3/5
Valet parking area is filthy. The chairs are dirty. One guy sitting in one of the chairs outside had his shorts half way down his butt with his crack all over the cushion. Our mortise lock on our door was not installed correctly and would not shut without having to wait for the door closure to slowly close then pull very hard to close it. Then opening it was even more difficult. Breakfast is mediocre. You’d think bacon and sausage……nope, pulled pork and pulled chicken. Weird if you ask me. Room was clean but the fridge is loud when the compressor kicks on. Our neighbors door closure was obviously broken. Every time the closed it would slam and shake the wall. There was a lot of in and out in that room so it got excessive. DON’T STAY IN 314.

The beds were very uncomfortable and the coach was so low to the floor making it diffucult to get on and off of.

We were greeted by a friendly attendant at the valet spot and the front desk. Our room was ready and was spacious and clean. The location was OK, I would have preferred a few block closer to the historic district but it was still only 2 blocks to the Charleston Museum and a nice park where there was an art show. Of course the price goes up, the closer you get to the main restaurant areas. Overall this was a nice compromise. I would give a 5 except the breakfast was a bit of a disappointment. Day one I had eggs with a piece of paper in them and my son inspected his and found 1 inch x 2 inch sheet of paper in his. We suspect it was the packaging from powdered eggs. The next day the eggs were as runny as soup. Otherwise the breakfast was acceptable and they keep the food area clean. I would stay there again

We enjoyed our 2 night stay. Beds were comfortable and breakfast was very good with so many options. We would definitely return there when in the area.

Breakfast was excellent! Better than hotels costing more for the suite.

Arrived at 12:00 PM with hopes that an early check in was available. Agent advised that no suites were available and requested that we come back at 4:00 PM which is standard check in time. He held our luggage for us. We returned after 4:00 PM. Our suite was still not available! We waited about 20 minutes while two front desk agents kept calling housekeeping (or someone). They were not the least bit apologetic. Don’t think I would ever stay here again after paying $400.00 plus for one night in Charleston.

we were pleasantly surprised with how nice our room was...kitchen , seating area etc. The breakfast was excellent every day. The staff in the breakfast area were very kind and pleasant, helpful. The people at the front desk were very short with responses and certainly were not going to go above and beyond to answer questions we had about getting transportation etc. I shouldn't say all of them, but there was a lady that just was not very inviting or friendly at all.

From the valet to the front desk, everyone was so friendly, accommodating, and informative. It wasn't being in a hotel, while it was only 1 night(the storm, shortened our trip), it felt like home!! The room was beautiful and so clean. My next trip to Charleston, this will be my stay!! Nothing! Keep doing what you are doing! Everything was wonderful!!!

The stay was excellent in every way. But what stood out to us both was the kind, sincere, helpful staff. Geraldine couldn’t have been kinder to us at our breakfasts. Ashley helped us when we checked in and whenever we needed anything. Tony gave us excellent advice on places to eat. The staff is outstanding!

The bed was poorly made- the covers barely on the bed. Like someone had just gotten out of it and pulled the covers up. No tight edges as hotels usually make…neatly done. Just an odd stay. Would hesitate before booking again. Great location but not the quality one expects in this are.

It was ok but I booked two rooms and orginally they were not on the same floor. The hotel corrected that problem. I had one reservation and could have paid both incidentials at the same time. I thought the check-in process was inefficient.

The door of the room was sagging andxwould not close unless you picked it up and moved it. The staff was responsive and we were switched to snother toom after the first night. I find it hard to believe that spending almost $300 a night that we would have an issue so basic. In the new room, the shower head would not move and was pointed yoward the wall. Do cotporations really care about presenting a good product or just focused on profit margins and dividend expenditures.

Enjoyed our stay in Homewood Suites while visiting the city of Charleston. Room was clean and breakfast was good. The only issue I have is parking. Using the hotel's valet is quite pricey. Public parking is available right in front of the hotel which was convenient (still expensive).

Good location The worst thing was the smell in the room. Some kind of damp dusty smell mixed with chemicals. It hits your nose right away once the door is open. You get used to it after 10-15 minutes spent in the room but I’m sure it was the reason for my allergies. Breakfast wasn’t tasty at all. I couldn’t find anything I’d want to eat there. Even coffee was super diluted.

I booked the trip for me and my husband to go visit our son at college. I wasn't able to go because I was sick, so my husband went solo. When we got to the hotel to check in, they wouldn't let him check in because I wasn't there. He reqested a manager. He gave my name, date of birth, email, phone number and the cc I used to book the room - but still they wouldn't let him check into the room. Needless to say my husband was furious. It was midnight and he had nowhere to go! Terrible service!

We were in town for a wedding and the rate was better at Homewood so we gave it a shot and couldn't have been happier with the location, the room, the space, the staff, breakfast, coffee, and price. This was a win-win-win all weekend long. We will stay here again and more importantly look for a Homewood when we are searching Hotels.com

The room was clean and comfortable. Loved the full kitchen with dishwasher and dishes! The staff was amazing! From the breakfast crew, front desk and cleaning crew. All was very helpful with transportation information and tour options. My only complaint is the tv options in the evening! No cable which shocked me! It’s 2025 I couldn’t believe there was no Netflix or HBO options! Funny because the other Homewood suites offer cable ! That’s my only complaint. Bravo to the crew.. they made the visit worthwhile!

The location of this hotel is perfect. Easily walk to King Street and all of the popular spots in Downtown Charleston. I also liked that they offered breakfast, which helped save time and money. Housekeeping was prompted and cleaned our room daily. The fresh citrus water in the lobby was a nice way to come back everyday. Our room smelled very musty and moldy, so much so that my entire family had stuffy noses when we left. Our room also smelled sour. I did hear a dog barking, so I think they put us on a pet friendly floor, but they did not let us know that ahead of time. The beds were extremely uncomfortable and the blankets/comforters were very thin, we had to use the extra blanket from the closet. We turned a blind eye to a lot of this as our location was great but I think this would make me look for something else in the future.

Nice lobby and well kept gym/pool The room itself was disappointing. Bathroom shower tub had a lot of mold on it. Clearly nobody bothered to clean it. Furniture was ripped up and had bad odor. Front desk staff was very standoffish. Made me feel like i was putting them out. breakfast buffet kept running out of basic necessities. like coffee, cream, fresh fruit. and fresh juice. will not stay there again. conversely, bellhops and maid service was wonderful. Geraldine in particular as she deserves recognition

Bed not as comfortable as it could be. Room upkeep could be improved. Front desk check in staff not very friendly. Bartender Mike was amazingly helpful and welcoming. Gave us lots of ideas for places to visit. Breakfast was good.

Asked for new towels 4-5 times before we got any the next day. Didn’t get room cleaned one time , they explained every other day. We asked for it the second day and no one came to service room at all.

My first night in a king was not great. The room did not feel clean and service was disappointing. Ms Wanda helped turned it around. Thank you for taking care of things, Ms Wanda! It was much appreciated. The location is great but to get to the most sought after area needs to be cleaned up terribly. Charleston: you can do better!

We had to ask several times for towels, which should have been an easy task. One of staff members didn’t have much info to share on bus system when we inquired. The bed was smashed against the wall so when sharing you couldn’t even get out the one side. Gym and pool were pretty small, pool didn’t have enough chair the first day we tried to sit out. Average stay, but would not return.

This is a great place to stay for the price in downtown Charleston. We walked everywhere! It is a 2 minute walk to get to King St or to get on the free shuttle that Carta offers. We love that if we had leftovers we could bring them to the hotel and heat them up the next day and prep for for our son and snacks in the kitchenette. The pool was great in that it was not on the bottom floor so it felt safe. The staff was phenomenal, they were always so thoughtful and kind and the free breakfast was amazing! Highly recommend this place!!

Great location to king street in a quiet part of town. Rooms were large and clean. Bartender was friendly and directed us on where and what to see. He also made great drinks! Little store across the street for everything you need and lots of parking.

Also the name historic district is misleading. It is 20 minutes walk from downtown and the center of the historic district. Misleading.

Daughter arriving later. I asked for multiple room keys. Said no. She can come get a key when she arrives. Stayed four days. Asked for late checkout. Call morning of checkout. Called at 8 am. Sorry. No. You can’t have that. Hilton Gold member. Internet didn’t work on our iPhones. $39 a night to park only option. Staff was friendly when they denied me things I wanted tho.

The hotel is very nice but the area heading to King Street needs work on the side walks. They are very broken up making it difficult to walk on them. The parking meters need to be replaced with new ones so parking on the street is easier and cheaper

Overall a great place to stay, and the staff were precessional and kind. However, the one thing that would keep me from booking here again is the really strong, chemically air freshener odor that emanates from the lobby and elevators. It got me every time I walked back into the hotel or in the elevator. I felt the need to cover my nose in the elevators. I’m not extremely sensitive to scents but this did me in. To be fair, a few people in my party didn’t mind it.

I thought I was getting a room that had a separate bedroom. The room was big and comfortable but not two separate rooms. Also, the bathroom sink was right next to the bed with no door to separate it from the bedroom. The toilet and shower did have a door.

I needed to call 3 times to have the pullout couch set up in the suite. When they finally came there was no mattress- which may be why the couch was so uncomfortable to sit on. They gave us a roll out bed with no mattress cover or blankets. The toilet paper holder was broken in the bathroom and there was no soap provided in the shower. The staff tried to fix the problems and were all very nice but the experience was not great.

My wife and I met some friends for the weekend. This hotel had a great location only a block away from King St where we spent a good deal of our time. The staff was awesome, with a good room, clean, and all. Walkable to the visitor center and the music hall where we did a tour and went to a concert.

Average hotel good for families. Close enough to downtown if you like to walk.

Parking fees are a bit outrageous $20 to $25/day is fair considering but $36/day is outrageous. This isn’t DC or NY…
- 5/5
Enjoyed our stay. Very comfortable and convenient to all we wanted to see.
- 5/5
I’m pleased with the ease of checking in and the cleanliness of the room was great. It is fantastic to have a kitchen area with small children. We enjoyed the free breakfast. It can be slightly noisy due to surrounding area traffic and it’s adjacent to an empty lot is a bit of an eye sore. However, in a few blocks, you are in the shopping area and restaurants which is great.

The original booked room smelled as if someone had been smoking. We reported it to a staffer and he stated that there weren’t any more rooms. I came downstairs and spoke to another staff member who immediately placed us in another room. I was very disappointed in this first staff member. He clearly lied.

It was very nice my stand. But at the breakfast I would like that it will change all the days, because all the days it’s the same. Also the fruits at the beginning of my stay are variety, but the last 2 days only green apples.

Very clean hotel. Room seemed very clean, However, when I used a black light on the easy chair and desk chair it revealed several stains all over the chair. In my opinion, I assume it was bodily fluids. So I did not sit in the easy chair. I did put towels down on the desk chair. I really think this was a great Hotel. To be fair, every hotel probably has this same issue. Best not to take black light with you.

As for the hotel itself: the staff was friendly and helpful. It offers a run of the mill continental breakfast buffet that has everything you need. Our room was spacious and had a great view of the Ravenel Bridge. The room was clean and the bed was comfy. The only minor complaint we could manufacture is that the furniture was a bit worn. However, it in no way diminished our stay. We would definitely recommend the hotel
- 4/5
The staff was wonderful but didn’t receive room service one day and had to ask for clean towels. Ran out of toilet paper and had to use tissues. Also the bar area had a lot of fruit flies and did not go back. They need to get an exterminator

The staff was so helpful and pleasant. The suits were clean and the buffet was convenient and had many options

Hotel room was big ( like a suite) clean & great breakfast!

The room was nice and spacious. We loved the ceiling fan! We did NOT like the person who tried to sell us Hilton Honors program. Ruined our breakfast! Last thing we want on our vacation is a salesperson trying to get us to spend even more money. The property surrounding the hotel was absolutely filthy. Lots of homeless people and trash. Just a short walk from a shuttle stop, which was nice. The valet service was very nice.

I enjoyed my stay at Homewood suites by Hilton very much. My flight arrived a bit early, and I asked if there was any way I could check in early, and they were happy to accommodate and got me in super quick. The staff were all very friendly and helpful; the breakfast was great; I enjoyed the pool & outdoor area; King Street was one block away, so definitely walkable, and I had a great time and would definitely come back!

Also, King Street is one block away with tons of restuarants bars and shopping experiences.
