ps: The hotel advertises online that “available parking” but once you get to the front desk they have a signs says it’s $20 a day and parking first comes first served. so you pay $20 and you have a 50/50 chance to park??????!!!! asked them and they say yes $20 but parking space isn’t guaranteed….

The front desk clerk was wonderful . He has great customer service skills and is super professional at his job. We booked this hotel because I was getting a medical procedure and needed a hotel room to spend the night in case I had to return to the hospital. At arrival we noticed that the hotel was not what we were expecting it to be, but after all we checked in and it only got worse, the hallway to the room is connected to a restaurant. We didn’t feel comfortable or safe but we checked out the inside of the room and to our surprise it smelled like cats have been staying in this room. So we told the clerk that we could not stay due to the conditions of the hotel. He advised us to contact booking.com and notify them that he would agree to refund us for the hotel room.

I had great stay. The room was clean, the bed was comfortable. The location was perfect with many restaurants within walking distance. There was grocery store and CVS within walking distance. Metro was only 10 minute walk away. The price was about $80 cheaper than other hotels in the area.

Room was adequate and comfortable with one queen bed with a Frig and coffee maker. The location was good since I was only staying one night to be close to my hospital appointment the next day. Didn't have a on-site restaurant but had a convenient Mexican Restaurant & Bar next door. There was another Cafe restaurant at the back of the hotel accross the street that had reasonable priced pizzas and sandwiches. The little hotel is a diamond in the rough among several expensive hotels in the Bethesda area. For a short stay would definitely recommend this hotel. The main drawback is that it charges $20 for parking in the adjacent garage.

Nothing The room was not clean, there were tapes on walls probably from the previous guests but they didn’t remove them. Hand marks on headboard, someone definitely got fucked while holding on headboard. The bathroom drainage was dirty with hair still there and molds in the bathroom. The elevator smell like shit. When I reported it to front desk they didn’t apologize, nothing they were nonchalant.

Location to where I needed to be It was dated, dirty, and they put us upstairs in an area that was separated by a chain-link gate. The restaurant staff could be heard through the door, it was dingy, dated, and all around just poor. For 200+ dollars a night it was definitely not worth it and I would not stay there again.

The hotel was basically clean but the rooms are quite small and spartan like. My room went a day without hot water but was restored in short order. If location is important, where not having a car is part of your plan, this hotel meets the mark. If you’re looking for amenities, the Bethesdan is right next door and a Marriott is just a short walk down Wisconsin Av.

The staff timely response, and location of the hotel. Shower head is leaking, no chair in room, and have to get up to turn tv on using input button on tv to change inputs instead of using the remote control.

The hotel was disgusted. It has not been updated in decades, wallpaper, hang off, taped up with tape plaster on the wall the rooms I would never step barefoot on the rugs stains on the rugs crayon markings all over the wall, black mold in the bathroom, the door of the room was stripped.

FOR ME THE LOCATION WAS GREAT AS I WAS COMING IN FROM UNION SQUARE BY TRAIN FROM NY IT WAS EASY TO GET TO BY METRO AND THE PRICE ALTHOUGH HIGH WAS REASONABLE. THE LOCATION IS GREAT AS IT HAS RESTAURANTS MALLS ALL WITHIN WALKING DISTANCE FROM THE HOTEL TO METRO. THE HOTEL ALTHOUGH CLEAN AND STAFF SUPER IT LOOKS OUTDATED AND NEEDS RENOVATIONS BADLY IT COULD BE A GREAT HOTEL WITH UPGRADES BUT I’M NOT THE OWNER JUST A GUEST IN MY OPINION IF “UPGRADED” YOU WOULD GET ALOT MORE BUSINESS OTHER THAN THAT IT WAS FINE

The location was the only good thing about the stay. The room was not very clean and mattress was stained, the room had a damp smell and there was a loud noise running through the night. It was not a pleasant experience. The Booking.com listing had mentioned that there was breakfast available but when we reached the place, the staff informed that it is not offered.

Absolutely worst experience rver. I even emailed general mgr and asked her to call me and she did not even bother to return my call. Incompetent lazy staff, useless maintenance that cannot even speak English, false advertising i.e. business center that.does not exist, elevator has been broken down for several weeks, rooms are filthy, non-working tvs, non-working heat/air conditioning, filthy tubs Homeless people stay here drinking and drugging, loud rap music and you will get high as a kite walking into lobby, from heavy marijuana smoke. Homeless people get much better rooms than people who are paying customers, and very unsavory looking characters Do yourself a favor.and run.for the hills frim this dump. Also read all other horrific reviews from former guests. In this case, it is worth it to pay more money to get quality room and hotel. I paid way too much money staying at this dump. See above

Very convenient location. The staff were super friendly. The price is great. The attached restaurant looked great and was always busy. They were ok with me bringing my bicycle into the room. The fridge and coffeemaker worked. Ok this place is old, but the location is why I booked it and I didn't expect it to be a Marriott. Many things didn't work or were weird, like the dresser drawers wouldn't stay closed, the water never got hot in the shower no matter what time of day I tried it, but it was "just warm", the hair dryer didn't work, and the elevator scared me

After we were mistakenly shown to a room with a single queen bed by an inexperienced staff member, the manager stopped us from climbing the 4 flights of stairs and corrected the mistake. Her attention was life saving, in my opinion. The elevator was broken and we were on the 4th floor - "we" included my sister with cancer and my 89 year old mother.

The Direct TV cable wasn’t working on the front desk said to switch inputs. That didn’t work. I was also told to use the free WiFi… but that required a password after selecting and it was not provided Felt like some staff was more knowledgeable than others, I was able to get the amenities issues resolved the next day when a different staff member was behind the counter.

Just ok..the small desk in the room had the microwave and coffeemaker on it..I had to remove to do work on my computer. I place them on the safe.

At the time of the stay the elevator was out so the entire hotel was only accessible by stairs. That was a real inconvenience since I have a meniscus tear. Breakfast is NOT provided as advertised. The halls smell like weed. This is a very old and run-down joint. The wifi didn't work at all making us feel VERY stranded. AVOID STAYING HERE AT ALL COSTS.
- 1/5
I would not recommend no matter how cheap and close to NIH. Our room has bugs and needs some updates. Hallways smell very musty. Keep everything zipped or the bugs will travel with you. Not a bed bug, more of a strange insect. Elevators don't work and we were put on 4th floor. Luckily a room on 2nd was available. Front desk staff were kind and smooth check in
- 1.5/5
hot tub hours ridiculous. should be from 8am-9:30pm. Hot tub NOT hot! warmer/hot water from the bottom jets and cold water from top jets making the water luke warm! :( center yard is full of weeds. several review references to MICE! :((

The elevator was broken. The room was clean but smelled somewhat like stale cigarette smoke. At least the window could be opened, though it didn't seem to help much. When I went to check out, there was no one at the desk for 10 minutes. My call to the property went unanswered. There was not a drop box for keys either. Another couple came to check out, too. They ended up writing a note and leaving it with their keys.
- 3/5
Room smelled of cigarette smoke. I think the person beside me was smoking in my room. Not really the fault of the hotel but still pretty gross.

Holes in wall brown looking splater on ceilings, matress look like been there since 1902. Room was clean looking carpets had stains on it... ...... I did not take off my shoes or clothes. I slept in my clothes with hoodie wrapped up on top of not so clean looking sheets...

Spacious room. However, it had a terribly dirty feel and smell to it. Bathroom smelled like excrement, rusty shower. The sink had hairs, it had clearly hadn’t been cleaned up prior to our check-in. Thermostat was not working, instead there was a very old system that took forever to “cool down “ a bit. Also, the elevator in the property was not working and I had to pay an extra $20 for parking.

Patricia at the front desk is the only thing I would give a thumbs up. The facility is a dump. Wall paper coming off the wall. Stayed one night. Reserve only as last resort.

We had experienced two major issues then the phone did not work so I could not call the front desk. First the window closer did not work and the window started slamming starting at 1:00am. It finally stuck open in the morning and left cold air in the rest if the stay. The phone did not work so I could not inform them. Then I went to take a hot shower to wake up and the shower knob broke off and I wasn’t able to shower. I have photos of both

To: Hotel Management & Corporate Customer Relations The stay at the American Inn of Bethesda (Nov 22, 2025) was severely over-promised and poor value, comparable to a budget chain, not its 3.3-star rating. Corporate intervention is urgently needed for systemic maintenance and staff training failures. Key Room Conditions (Room 417) - Unacceptable Hygiene/Maintenance: * Critical Sanitary Failure: Visible blood splatter on the walls. * Clogged bathroom vanity sink. * Missing main towel bar and face towels. * Visible damage to cabinet doors. Service Failures - Rude & Unhelpful Staff: * Staff demeanor was rude, dismissive, and inappropriate for hospitality. * Parking Incident: Staff offered a rude, unhelpful response regarding the $20 daily parking fee, providing zero proactive assistance (e.g., directing to known free public parking). The only "solution" offered was a refund if no spot was found upon return. Conclusion: The experience combined unacceptable room conditions with substandard, rude service. Expect immediate corporate review and action plan for maintenance and training deficiencies. Contact: [email protected]

Clean room. Very helpful and responsive staff. A challenge to park in the narrow on-site lot and hard to find street parking (but unsual for this area of Bethesda). $20/day for on-site parking was a change from the free parking here during my last stays, but again, not unusual for this area. Short walk to metro, or WRMMC appts, Harris Teeter and bakery/coffee shops. Guapos next to the hotel serves delicious Mexican dinning or carry out options. I will happily continue to patronize American Inn in the future.

I room felt dirty, smelled like smoke and one of the windows was open and it was not discovered as being open until the next morning when the curtains were opened. There is black mold growing on the ceiling of the bathroom. There was no trash can in the room and the tv did not work. This hotel is the worst place that I have stayed at and it has the feeling of a road side inn. Also, the parking was horrible, spaces were so tight I could barely open the door far enough to squeeze out of my suv and I am not a big person.

Hotel room was filthy and rundown. Bedclothes were thin and inadequate and not enough to keep warm. Heater not working and furniture and carpet were absolutely disgusting. There were feces behind the television stand on the carpet. I have pictures.

Corridors, rooms. Carpets filthy. Exude a strong smell of weed n cigarettes . Rooms have extremely strong filthy mold like smell, front desk hardly helpful- except for DC. Very limited and inconvenient parking. They charge $20 per night for parking! Room- Easier to park in the public parking on the street on back side, AC worked erratically , elevator worked until the fourth floor, for the rest, climb stairs w your bags! Felt very unsafe. I’d 100 % avoid this nasty place. Only good thing is its location.

I’d never stay here. The corridors, lobby, elevator smell of weed and cigarettes smoke though it’s a ‘ no-smoking’ facility, rooms filled w unbearable stench, elevator works upto the fourth floor. If you’re on the fifth, you’ve to climb stairs w your bags, ACs work erratically. Front desk reps hardly welcoming n helpful. Except for DC. Rooms also have a strong mold like smell. First of all this hotel is providing wrong advertisement. We chose this placed because they were saying there was microwave in the rooms but this wasn’t the case. There was a heavy smell in the hallways. The condition based on the price was horrible. I wouldn’t stay here again.

The room was small but being by myself I didn’t mind that so much. Lots of street noise and loud AC in the room. Not the cleanest bathroom I’ve encountered in a hotel. Rust stains (I think, almost looked like blood spattering) in the bath tub. Overall ok, probably would choose a different hotel in the future

This was not a great stay - but not the worst I've ever had. We checked in and they were still learning a new system...which fine I get, but it took a long time to find my reservation. Once that happened - my double bed room turned into a single bed... so that had to be corrected. We were given two single rooms which is not ideal for a family, but workable. In one room the air conditioning would not adjust or turn off, so it was an ice box. The pool was not open and by the looks of it- was gross! The grab and go breakfast, that was listed on the reservation, was not provided as promised. The elevators were also incredibly slow that it became faster to climb up and down the stairs to the 5th floor. Thank goodness we are in shape. I would not recommend this hotel to any family.

This hotel is totally not worth the money. Heed the warnings of the other reviews and don’t make the same mistake I did. This place is out dated, dirty, the porch was closed near the pool so there was no where to sit outside. The lady checking me in didn’t even check my id upon check in. Tv didn’t work and there was a power surge when we were there where all the electric went out for a short period and made the elevator stop working. The workers didn’t seem to care. The tub was absolutely filthy and the toilet seat was so loose you couldn’t sit on it (not that I would have bc it was kinda dingy) I would totally never stay here again. Do yourself a favor and spend the extra money and stay at the hotel down the street.

It was horrible. Elevator did not work. We booked 3 rooms with 2 beds and they one had one the rest were single beds. We had to get 4 single rooms because the 2 bed room was on the 5th floor and my friend was handicap and could not walk all the stairs. Kids running around all over candy all over the floor trash all over. It smelled and tv remote did not work right. I felt like i stayed at the roach motel. The guy that checked us in charged me for 3 cars when we had only brought 1 car. The lady that checked us out had to fix everything. Then there is the continental breakfast.... there is none. Its a bagged breakfast.

- 3/5
Old, outdated property. Staff is nice and location is convenient to NIH. It’s the cheapest in the area but still not worth the price for the condition it’s in.
- 1/5
This is more of a shelter for low-income families than a hotel. The front desk person reeked of marijuana and wanted an extra 40 dollars just to hand us the room key. Homeless people were loitering in the lobby and there was urine on the floor. The room smelled terrible. We left immediately.

The customer service was amazing but the hotel wasn't so clean and the condition wasn't great.
- 3/5
Good and comfortable beds, breakfast bags to go are ok. The building is old and in need of upgrades but location is great.
- 3/5
The coffee maker wasn’t clean .little bugs inside the microwave.
- 3/5
Hotel is very convenient to NIH, and the staff is great. But, they've let the condition of the property fall below what I'd consider adequate. The bathroom had a few plumbing issues, the room door was difficult to open, and the mattresses are at the end of their lives.
- 3/5
There was a problem when checking in. They had me listed as staying the night before. Pillow s were very thin. Very thin comforter for the weather
- 1/5
My wife found bedbugs in her bed & many other human hairs on mattress cover. We did not stay but were still charged for 1 night We found another hotel in the area that was wonderful. This wasted so much time and disappointment to our 2 day vacation in Bethesda. We were vacationing from Canada to a place we had previously lived 25 years ago.
- 1/5
Dirty , run down place, really discusting .Nicaraguan ladies were nice though. We don’t recommend this hotel.
- 1/5
This was the single most disgusting hotel I have ever stayed in my entire life. Only stay here if you have absolutely NO extra money to stay elsewhere. The 2 & 3rd floors house what appear to be welfare families. On many occasions, their little children roam the lobby/outside areas alone while their parents are getting high. Absolutely disgusting filthy property! DON’T STAY HERE!!
- 1/5
Stayed 5 days. Room only cleaned on first day. Offers breakfast. Unlike most places there is a paper bag with some items. It is deceptive to say that they offer breakfast. No place that says breakfast has this, There is usually coffee and something to pick up. Parking is terrible needs backing into. Anyone allowed to park in handicap spots encouraged by management. One of the persons on desk made you stand without acknowledging my presence waiting in the line .Overheard persons in lobby who were given a room flooded and having roaches. Will never ever recommend this facility to anyone
- 3/5
Front desk person was not available for about 15 mins. A lady waiting in front of us had to call the office at least twice before someone answered. Front desk guy was on his phone while walking slowly back to counter/chair and get in front of computer.

When I arrived, I waited far too long to check in because no one was at the front desk. My shower clearly hadn't been cleaned - there was hair on the shower walls. There were mold spots on the wall in the bathroom. The internet was spotty.
- 5/5
Staying at the American Inn was really nice and very convenient. I appreciated the price immensely and the ease of booking it. However, I would encourage the facility to ensure guests know about alternative parking options. It was pretty hard to figure out what to do other than to park at the very small lot that the hotel had. So if there could be information given to people about where they can park overnight or even a deal with the Bethesda Hotel that guests can park there at a different rate would be appreciated. Otherwise, very solid hotel - for a modest sensibly priced spaceright in the heart of Bethesda. Four blocks from the Metro 20 minutes from downtown DC. Well done!
- 2/5
I would’ve given a higher rating had I at least known what I was really booking. The pictures posted in the listing should be illegal. They do not resemble the building exterior, interior, or rooms at all. It was dirty. The parking garage only held about 15 cars total and it was extremely difficult to get in and out of. It was totally deceptive and was grateful to get out without being mugged or attacked in the garage. There were men just walking and sitting in it with hoods up when we pulled in. The price was tempting, it is not worth the savings. Someone sadly overdosed and was found in in the parking lot of the gas station next door the morning we left.

Was extremely dated. Lobby smelled of urine and the first 10 minutes we were there the elevator got stuck with someone yelling from it right outside our room. Room was very small.

DISGUSTING, need a refund, so dirty, smelled like a dumpster in the halls, blood splatter and dead bug on wall, sheets stunk, A/C not working properly, tub didn’t drain for hours, bathroom floor slick and dirty, sticky light switches, was told it’s also a homeless shelter. Elevator broke, took stairs and there was pee on the steps. DO NOT RECOMMEND.

This hotel was disgusting. There were stains on almost every surface of the room and the smoke detector was hanging down out of the ceiling. We left immediately and had to find a different hotel very late at night. Had to eventually call to get our refund as it didn’t automatically go through as the front desk said it would.
- 3/5
Not the best but it was quiet.

Got there to find the overnight staff snoring. I took video it took over an hour almost 2 to wake this man up. Then he yelled at me and told me to leave. Then he came back to the desk and said he would give me a “free” room even though I already paid for the room so that was a joke. The breakfast was a bag with an apple and a yogurt. I have an abscessed tooth and could not eat the apple. The elevator didn’t work that morning for me. It was stuck so the maid took me to the stairs. We didn’t get our room until like 5 am and then were made to check out the same day which I thought was wrong considering what we went through just to get a room to sleep in. I really hope corporate or management reaches out to me so I can send the footage of the man sleeping and then being ridiculous and yelling at me.

Nice distance to the city via Metro. Friendly staff. Classic hotel feel.
- 3/5
There was no shuttle to the Metro. (Shuttle was available to nearby medical facilities for patients.) The TV got one channel of shows from the 70s. The place looks tired and in need of an uplift, particularly the bathroom. Again, I want to emphasize the front desk folks were wonderful and kind.

I did like the front desk lady, she was really nice and helpful. The hotel is conveniently located around a lot of places to eat and shop.

I was in town for a seminar and booked because it was affordable. Proximity to nearby restaurants and my seminar location was great however, my time at the American Inn of Bethesda was disappointing. I attempted to use the “fitness center” but only found a small room with an empty water cooler, 1 popped stability ball, an elliptical, and an adjustable weight bench with a small assortment of mismatched dumbbells. I took my chance with the elliptical and left with very sticky shoes from whatever was on it prior to me using it. Later, i tried to go back to my room to review information from my course work but was met with distracting moans from guests next door. I know thats not the fault of the establishment but the thin walls did not help.
