Had stayed here years ago and the upgrades and remodels were definitely apparent. Good AC and comfortable beds. Could be a bit cleaner, but still an old property that provided great service from check-in to daily room attention.

I arrived a little early and got good parking. Had to check in through the night window. Building has no elevators. They are still renovating and it has future potential, but I have to rate it for the hospitality I received ion that day. I am glad the AC worked good. I understand hotels are trying to rent out rooms to recoup, unfortunately the ratings need to reflect a true review of the experience. The area seems secure, no room to turn around, so you have to reverse exit

The older couple running the place are very nice and very helpful (especially when I locked my key in my room!). But as to the condition of the property... just to use 1 issue as an example - the curtains in my room (206) had recently been ripped off the wall (hardware included) and not properly re-attached so to prevent light entering and anyone on the walkway outside seeing clearly into the room I had to take one of the bath towels to cover the huge gap. Did I complain? No. Should I have? I don't know, it was the cheapest hotel by at least $40 when I did my search and it is very close to the 580 freeway (but not close enough to hear it) which my drive in the morning very easy.

The duvet cover had cigarette burns and the whole place stunk of stale cigarettes and scag. The lady at the front desk was a bit gruff at check-in, but the gentleman who joined her was much more personable. No one came to clean my room during my entire stay even though I put out the request for maid service. I killed two large cockroaches. The blackout portion of one of the curtains was torn away. Would not stay here again.

If you want a view, sauna, breakfast, lounge, or valet service then this is not for you. As for me, I'd happily stay there if I go back to Berkeley.

This was a one night stay. The manager was friendly even though I woke him up. I arrived late. The room was the issue. The security lock on the door was broken but the deadbolt at least worked. The sink was loose (not attached to the wall properly) and I am pretty sure that the mattress was old as it creaked when I would turn over.

Overall it was quiet and the bed was really comfortable and clean--with soft sheets and soft-comforter that was not scratchy--which helped put me to sleep quickly. The TV had a swivel and channels for any show you want to watch while you get ready to go out. The mini fridge in the room cools all your drinks. The shower had plenty of hot water--the air conditioner/fan works on the instant. There is a sweet little cafe called Cafe Leila right next to it where the breakfast makes up for the night. The owner of Cafe Leila is welcoming and you can sit in a garden and enjoy your coffee and pastry.

Starting with the sign, the propety needs an immediate facelift. My shade was badly torn, and the curtain was falling off the rod. There was a hairball of some sort near the drain of the shower, and the towels were very rough. It apperared as though the property was poorly maintained. The courtesy of the staff didn't make up for the overall condition of the property.

Very friendly and accommodating staff. Clean and nice rooms for the price. Tight parking but where isn't in the city, I found spot in the parking lot every day after work.

It was a small inn. I like that, but what I didn’t like is that there was a dried stripe on the bathroom wall where the attempt to clean it was made, but it didn’t get finished. Also there was black marker on the wall with insane sounding messages, plus there was some kind of gunk on the “dining”table. It didn’t look sanitary is all I can say! Also the neighboring rooms had apparently no sound conduction so the louder they spoke the more they sounded like they were right in my room!! Yuck! I would not stay there again although on my first two visits it wasn’t like that.

It’s a smaller type of building, but cozy and quiet. My room was bigger on the inside than I thought walking in, a pleasant aroma (freshly cleaned), and had a fridge and microwave!

Will stay at the Berkeley and was all right they’re doing remodel there so they’re still working on some of the rooms. But once they finish the rooms look really good. The neighborhood is changing so this will help them.

The location was good. Quick Ubar ride to the Greak Theater. The room was musty when we first got there. Had to leave the door and window open to air it out. As the door was open the cleaning lady walked right in to grab a bucket that she left behind. One of the towels had I big grey stain on it and the bed was hard. AC unit didn't work that great in our room either. Pros the pillows were comfortable and they had a lot of channels on the TV close walking distance to food

We had reserved two rooms but when we checked in they said we only had one room. After 10-15 minutes that was worked out. Check in was after 3PM and by now it was almost 5PM but the room had not been cleaned. We had to wait with our friend in the second room for about 30 minutes for our room to be ready. When we went in the room we found it to be clean and had recently been remodeled. The bath room was probably the smallest I have ever seen in a hotel or motel. The room was very noisy from street traffic and around 11PM the people in the next room arrived and sounded like a drunken party. I went out in the morning to find a place for breakfast and was approached by a homeless person begging. I would have been afraid to go out after dark. Overall I would say the hotel would be something I would have expected in a third world country and would not recommend it. For what we received the room was overpriced. On a previous stay in Berkeley a few days earlier we stayed a a different hotel with a much nicer room for a lot less money.

The manager, "Ghan", is a delight, honest and understanding. The furnishings are old and well-used. The bathroom was spotless, very clean shining floor but very small. If you are travelling with someone who is fussy, this is not the place for you.

There was no Ice machine. There was no closet. I loved the fact that I could open the windows for fresh air and not have to run the air conditioner at night. Also I was close to busses and BART.

The only problem was that the swing bar door guard (the security latch that you flip over on the door) was broken. The stairwell and doors were a little grungy, but I've seen worse.
